This motel is a gem. Right on Route 66, it's clean and welcoming vintage look immediately draws you in. Checking in was a breeze and since we had called with our estimated arrival time the room was already a comfortable temperature with the lights on and a vintage radio playing softly on one of the nightstands. The room was extremely clean with attention to detail. The decor was vintage Route 66 with warming accents. Instant on hot water, high thread count sheets, a comfy matress and large fluffy bath towels were great amenities that helped make our stay a delight. We will be back!

Reserved double room online, told them we wouldn't arrive til 9:45. When we arrived Larry was waiting for us with the light on in our room, radio playing music, and tv set to old movie. So cute & clean. Great attention to detail. Will stay here every time. Larry was kind and helpful. I felt prepared for and expected. Also felt price was perfect. Loved the decor! Beds are full size so fine for us but if you are bigger people might want to get two rooms with king beds.

Road-tripping from Ohio to Arizona along Route 66, we were in need of 2 rooms with a rollaway bed or cot for one of the kids. I called ahead of time and was told they had a camping cot that could work if in a pinch but it would be tight- this was better than anyone else had to offer and we appreciated his honesty. Upon arrival, the lobby/office is absolutely adorable - very retro and cute. This neighborhood reminds me of Cars the movie. Turns out this stretch of highway is exactly what the movie was modeled after. They have a gift shop with reasonably priced merchandise that represents the area well. The rooms are small but comfortable. Very clean. Very comfy. Motel Safari was the best hotel experience on our road trip, which included some higher end hotels. Thank you for creating a pretty awesome memory for our trip. We will never forget Motel Safari.

Very cool atmosphere, host/owner was great to work with as well. We were riding motorcycles back from Colorado and made this a stopping point for the day. They even had a covered place for our bikes. If you are looking for a place to spend the night this is it.

This 1950s Motel is so so so adorable and reminds us of a great time in history ...Route 66... simpler times... awesome mid century decor:) Super nice owner with adorable Boxer babes Sam. I'm super happy we decided to eat at Pow Pow Lizard Lounge and stay the night in this clean cute friendly spot:) with stars above.

Love this Route 66 Motel! It's a true MCM gem. Hats off to the cleaning staff-our room was clean and cool and we felt safe while here. MCM fans -this place is for you. The office is full of MCM decor as was our room. Everything was updated but also somehow keeping with the style. Great job with the artwork and furnishings! Room: Each lamp had usb and plug in charging stations on the base-super handy. The air conditioning unit got the room icy cold which is what I need to sleep. Everything was tidy, clean and neat. We got to park "in a garage" which made my sons day. Comfy bed, comfy pillows and hot shower with god water pressure. Quiet neighbors. Keurig coffee maker in the room! We felt safe!! Extra: The super handy thing is the free laundry -which came in handy when my son forgot to do his laundry before leaving the house. I hate bragging about my "secret" favorite finds because then people read them and then the places get busy and then I can't stay there any more-so I'm hoping that Larry reads this and "saves" room 23 for me-always. (A girl can wish).

Every time we come through New Mexico, we stay here! We appreciate all of the little touches and attention to detail that the owner has added over the years! It is a very clean and comfortable space. The retro, mid-century modern accents are perfect. The shower may be the best shower I have ever had in my life! Lots of water pressure! The owner is knowledgeable and friendly. He is always helpful and available. His sweet boxer dog is always at his side. She is a little shy. :) We can't recommend this place more highly!!

This is a solid place. My wife and two little ones stayed here after the Southwest Airlines debacle forced us to drive home. We needed a clean and safe place to stay for the night. Motel Safari was clean and safe and more! The owner was super welcoming. The room was updated but still had the old timey charm. The attention to detail of the wall art, metal Kleenex box, etc really exemplifies the owner's pride in this historic and charming motel.

This is the motel to stay at. Rooms are beautifully done. The service goes above and beyond to make your stay amazing.

Awesome mid century place to stay on Rt 66. So comfortable & beautifully restored! Would highly recommend!

The Motel Safari is a small motor court, and late arrivals are disruptive to our guests already settled in for the evening. Please aim for no later than an 8:00pm ETA, allowing extra time for possible traffic and weather delays. 
• CHECK-OUT ends at 10:00am MOUNTAIN TIME. Later check-outs must be approved in advance or are otherwise subject to an additional fee of $25 up to the first hour, plus $10 any additional hour(s).
• PETS: We do NOT allow pets , nor are they allowed to be left overnight in a vehicle. There's plenty of pet-friendly lodging in Tucumcari; please do not sneak them into our rooms. ***If any sign is detected upon check-out that a pet has been in a guest room, the guest(s) will be subject to a $100 cleaning fee . 
• SERVICE DOGS: In accordance with respective laws and guidelines, certified service animals are allowed, though we do ask that you let us know in advance at the point of booking, as we do our best to contain them to a select few guest rooms. 
• SMOKING: All guest rooms are NON-SMOKING . This includes cigarettes, cigars, marijuana, e-cigarettes, and vaping. Ashtrays are provided outside guest rooms and on the patio for cigarette smoking. Please note that smoking marijuana is prohibited on the property. ***If any sign is detected upon check-out that our smoking policy has been abused in a guest room, the guest(s) will be subject to a $100 cleaning fee . If the room is deemed unusable for any number of nights due to resulting odors, additional compensation will apply.
• PARKING:  The Safari is a u-shaped, one-level motor court with parking available directly in front of each guest room . There is also ample parking for trailers and larger trucks, though we do ask that you please let us know in advance if you will require extra space for your vehicle(s).
• BOOKING: As an owner-operated motel, we do not have a 24/7 staffed front desk, so we greatly appreciate those guests who are able to book with us directly online through our website. If you prefer to call, please do so 7:00-10:00am or 3:00-10:00pm MOUNTAIN TIME.
• DISCOUNTS: Due to ever increasing operating costs, we have temporarily stopped offering discounts. Instead we are aiming to keep our rates as low as possible for all our valued guests. We appreciate your understanding in these economically challenging times.
• CANCELLATIONS: Any cancellation must be made prior to 3:00pm MOUNTAIN TIME one day in advance of the scheduled arrival date. Any cancellation after the deadline will be charged 100% , though any subsequent night charges will be waived. Any no-show is automatically considered a cancellation, and the room will be charged 100%. We ask that groups and special events please notify us of cancellation three weeks prior to arrival date.
• KEY RETURN: Upon check-out, please return room key to the front desk or to the drop box located near the office. If key is not returned, guest(s) will be charged $25 to re-key the room's locks. 
• INCIDENTALS: All guest rooms are inventoried upon check-out. Missing, damaged or destroyed items or fixtures will be subject to a charge based on the replacement value of item and/or cost of repair.

“An iconic route 66 motel for 50+ years!”

The Motel Safari was built in 1959 by Chester Doer, a developer from Chicago, using an architectural style known today as "Googie" or "Doo Wop". You'll notice many of the retro design elements, from the quirky sign to oozing brick mortar, counter stacked brick grids in the facade, holes in cinder block walls and metal cylinders with perforated light holes. Not your ordinary Route 66 motel, each of our rooms are tastefully appointed with today's modern amenities, without sacrificing the motel's mid-century modern décor, no matter what room type or size! This is by far my favorite motel in Tucumcari. The owners are super friendly, the rooms are excellent, and the central location is perfect for watching RT66 traffic as you have a beer on the patio. Best motel in town!!

This was such a great little place! We made our reservation last minute and relatively late (8:30pm) and, the front desk was polite and accommodating. The room was clean, and the bed was awesome. Only bad thing was the heater couldn't decide whether or not the room was warm enough, so it kept shutting off for a few seconds and then turning back on, but it was pretty cold that night! Even still, it was great!

LCD TVs in the rooms let you know that it's not the 1950's anymore, but the overall feel of Tucumcari and owner Richard's classic T-Bird parked outside the office say differently. Both Richard and Gail made us feel right at home and even helped sort out us going to the Mesalands Community College Rodeo - a great night! If you ever plan to motor West, make sure you stop off here for a night. A fantastic motel oozing with all the retro charm you would want on your route 66 adventure. The owners totally 'get it' and will be there to help you with anything you need for your stay and exploration of the area. It's as good a motel as you will ever find.

Just returned from Monument Valley, Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. Stayed twice, going and returning. The Safari is very clean, comfortable and a great stop. Highly recommended!

Nice and cozy little place. Very friendly staff and got to meet Sam (friendly boxer dog). I got a room same night. Speedy WiFi , cool AC. Small bath but good enough. Definitely recommended.
