Tips for taking a Warner Bros. Studio Tour with kids

Los Angeles / June 14, 2017 by Allison / 9 Comments This article may contain sponsored content or affiliate links.

You know my family loves to travel, but did you know that we're kind of geeky about movies too? We have movie night every Friday and the drive-in is a summer tradition. Date night usually means dinner and a movie. We're fans of the classics as well as the newest blockbusters.

So, we planned a trip to Hollywood to combine our love of travel and movies. We researched several studio tours and were excited for the chance to work with Warner Bros. Studio Tour because it looked like one of the most family-friendly studio tours in Hollywood. The Harry Potter stops alone were enough to make my kids swoon.

The best way to book a tour is online at www.wbstudiotour.com . Tours run frequently throughout the day and there is lots of availability. However, Warner Bros. Studio tours can be popular, so be sure to book in advance to ensure that your preferred date and time do not sell out.

Are you wondering what to expect on a Warner Bros. Studio Tour? Here's the scoop.

Movie magic

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour is a driving and walking tour. You'll be given a lettered card when you arrive and see a short film about Warner Bros. Studios when your letter is called. Then you'll be assigned a tram and tour guide. Each tram holds about 15 people.

Our tour began in the back lots where a variety of city streets awaited transformation for all kinds of movie and TV shows. We were amazed at how many times the same red brick courthouse on Midwest Street was used in different shows we had seen! We were also fascinated to see how the same building can be one iconic house on one side and a completely different house on the other. We walked around and inside sets and were encouraged to take photos.

We also visited indoor soundstages where current WB shows are filmed. The Big Bang Theory and Fuller House were the sets we saw. My kids watch Fuller House on Netflix, so it was fun for all of us to see what the set looks like off-camera.

Got a favorite WB show? Say so!

Your tour guide can customize the tour to your interests. 🙂 Our tour guide asked about our favorite shows and movies at the beginning of the tour to make sure to point out or spend extra time at those sets along the way. He seemed to be a film and TV fan himself and was well informed about the studio and its history.

Every tour is a little different because tour routes are adjusted around filming schedules. I understand that The Ellen DeGeneres Show set is often part of the tour, but we didn't see it, presumably because she was taping that day. You probably will see Warner Bros. staff at work as you tour the studio, but you will probably not see any celebrities.

Video is not allowed, but photos are encouraged in most parts of the tour. There are loads of good photo opportunities, and the Warner Bros. tour staff was always happy to take group photos for us when needed.

Comfortable shoes are recommended, but the tour is not strenuous. You'll get in and out of the tram frequently to see sets up close, explore exhibits and take photos.

On your own

There are several museum experiences along the tour where you'll get to leave the tram and explore on your own. We didn't see all of those listed on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour website , either because our driver couldn't take us or because he decided to spend more time elsewhere. You should also expect that the exhibits will be updated as new hit movies and shows are released. All the fun  Fantastic Beasts  props we saw were surely not on the tour last year.

We saw a whole building where real cars from the Batman movies were displayed and we were able to switch the Bat Signal on and off. We also loved the Harry Potter and DC Universe exhibits. We were sorted by a  Harry Potter  Sorting Hat (Um, Slytherin?) and saw loads of props, costumes and memorabilia from recent movies like  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Suicide Squad.

Every tour ends at Stage 48 where you can spend as much time as you like in interactive exhibits that tell the story of how a film or TV show goes from script to screen. This is a great museum for movie lovers and it's fun for kids. The website suggests 45 minutes, but you could spend 1-2 hours here.

You can get a photo of yourself on the Friends and Lord of the Rings sets, and even act out a scene. You can order a cup of coffee or cocoa at Central Perk. You may be able to hold a real Oscar award as well. The highlight of Stage 48 was the green screen experience we could ride a broom or Batcycle and see ourselves on film afterward. Photos and videos were available for purchase.

Great for teens

Kids must be at least 8 years old to go on a Warner Bros. Studio Tour. It's a tour that is intended for adults and older kids. My kids were the only children on our tram, but I did spot a few kids in other groups.

My son was 10 and he didn't care much about seeing sets for Friends, Pretty Little Liars, Gilmore Girls, Big Bang Theory and other popular Warner Bros. TV shows that he hadn't seen. He was wowed by the Harry Potter parts of the tour, but thought the rest of it was just OK. My 13-year-old daughter is an aspiring actress and had actually seen or heard of more of the TV show and movie sets we saw, so she loved the whole tour.

My husband and I loved the Warner Bros. Studio Tour too. Warner Bros. seems to “get” what fans want from a studio tour, and has delivered it.

Disclosure: Warner Bros. provided my family with complimentary studio tour tickets for the purpose of review. I received no additional compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.

Want to join a studio audience?

Many of the television shows at Warner Bros. welcome live audiences. Go to www.tvtickets.com to see what is taping all over the Los Angeles area and find out how to get tickets to your favorite shows.

Tickets to these tapings are free, and separate from your Warner Bros. Studio Tour. These free tickets go quickly, so you'll want to look for opportunities as soon as you start planning your trip, or even plan your trip around dates when you get tickets.

Most shows have a minimum age of 18, but a few family shows welcome guests as young as 10 or 12. Attending one of these tapings is on our wish list, but since there were so few shows that we can all attend, we'll try it on a future family trip or romantic getaway.

When: Year-round. Tours are offered every 30 minutes from morning through afternoon, seven days a week, except Christmas Day.

How Much:  Tour prices are elusive, since they seem to vary somewhat depending on which day and time you choose. However, it was about $60-65 per adult and $50-55 per child (age 8-12) at the time we visited. Parking is $12 per vehicle.

How Long: The tour is about 2 hours, but the entire experience took longer. Allow 3-4 hours total.

How else can I help?

Need the best price on your flight?  Hollywood Burbank Airport and Los Angeles International Airport are both nearby. Use  AirfareWatchdog  or Skyscanner to compare fares from major airlines. Then book directly with the airline, rather than a 3rd party site. Find out why HERE .

Need a place to stay? We have stayed at Sheraton Universal Hotel and Hollywood Orchid Suites , which are both located within five miles of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Los Angeles traffic is as bad as you've heard, so it pays to stay close if you can.

Need help getting around? We drove our own car, and Los Angeles is still mostly a driving city. However, parking can be expensive and traffic can be awful, so consider public transportation or Uber/Lyft/taxi, depending on your itinerary. Renting a car? Read my tips for getting the best price for your rental car HERE .

Want to save money on Southern California theme park tickets and hotels?  We also visited Universal Studios Hollywood on this trip and you can get discount tickets from Get Away Today Vacations , along with discounts on Disneyland and local hotels. Hi, We are coming from Australia in October and wondered if there are any Warner Bros studio tours that would take a 6yo?

September 18, 2017 at 7:53 pm

I’m sorry, but children must be at least 8 years old to go on the regular or deluxe Warner Bros Studio Tour. 🙁 It’s intended for older visitors, and my kids were the only kids in our tram. I recommend visiting Universal Studios Hollywood, if it isn’t already on your itinerary. A tour of the actual studio is one of the park’s best attractions and all ages are welcome.

June 19, 2018 at 5:45 pm

My 14 year old wants to go on the tour when our family visits LA in a couple weeks. However, we have a 6 and 4 year old. Are there any places near by where my husband can take our daughters while my son and I are on the tour?

June 19, 2018 at 7:17 pm

Hi Kristen! Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk are fairly close by. Universal CityWalk does not require you to pay admission to enjoy the shops, restaurants and entertainment. Griffith Park is a fairly short drive as well. Griffith is a large public park with playgrounds, picnic areas, hiking trails, zoo, Griffith Observatory, etc. One spot that we found interesting in Griffith Park was Travel Town, which has picnic areas, old trains and a small museum.

My daughter will just be 8 when we go to the Warner Bros tour. Will they ask me to prove her age?

January 9, 2019 at 12:38 pm

We did not have to prove our kids’ ages, but they are a little older. I’m guessing that they won’t ask for verification if she looks and acts her age.

July 14, 2019 at 7:37 pm

Do you happen to recall some of the show facades that you saw so I can show my 9 and 11 year old children an episode of before our trip so they have some connection to the sites we will see on the tour? Fuller House is good because they’ve seen all those on Netflix, so at least that’s a start!

July 15, 2019 at 4:19 pm

Hi! The backdrops may change somewhat as Warner Bros produces new shows on these sets and sound stages. At the time of our visit, we recognized backdrops and photo ops from Friends, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Animaniacs, Batman movies, Gilmore Girls, La La Land, Pretty Little Liars, Big Bang Theory, Growing Pains and others. Not sure all of those are shows you’ll want to show to your kids, but hopefully, this list will help. 🙂

Thank you very much for the reply. I appreciate the insight.

Warner Brothers Studio Tour + Tips

warner bros studio tour baby

Sharing is caring!

Are you looking for the best studio tour in Los Angeles? TV and movie lovers won’t want to miss the Warner Brothers Studio tour! I’ve done it twice over the decades and loved it both times. The WB Studio tour keeps adding experiences and features to make it more fun, engaging and interactive.

After reading this Warner Brothers Studio tour review, you’ll have all the tips you need to make the most of your experience – including how to snag a Warner Brothers Studio tour discount !

Warner Brothers Studio tour information

warner bros studio tour baby

The Warner Brothers Studio Tour Hollywood takes place on the backlot of the famed WB Studio in Burbank, California. It borders Griffith Park and is just 3 miles from Universal Studios Hollywood .

The basic Studio Tour includes about 1 hour touring the back lot with a live guide in a cart along with as much self-paced time exploring exhibits as you want. During the guided portion of the tour you’ll see some of Warner Brothers’ most famous sets like “New York City”, Fuller House , The Big Bang Theory , Friends and more. Guests even visit an active sound stage where current shows are filmed!

warner bros studio tour baby

In the photo above from 2011, you can see the set “dressed” as Bluebell, Alabama for Hart of Dixie . It’s amazing to notice the small details that must be added and removed every time an area of the massive backlot is repurposed!

We learned so much about the different types of sets, how lighting needs are met, ways to turn residential Burbank into a remote island jungle and more. If you’re paying attention to the details, the tour is incredibly informative. You really do get to go behind the scenes, exactly as advertised.

warner bros studio tour baby

In recent years, Warner Brothers has fleshed out the tour to include tons of fun interactive experiences. You can check out the latest Batmobile, design your own costumes, get sorted into your Hogwarts house and so much more! Warner Brothers Studio suggests to allow about two hours for these exhibits and that matched our experience.

During your visit you’ll ride two carts: the first is your main studio tour from the arrival to the Stage 48 exhibits, and the second is (mostly) transportation from Stage 48 back to the building where you started. I like this set up because you really can set your own pace in the interactive areas. Stage 48 has the Central Perk Cafe, restrooms, several popular TV sets and a very cool interactive soundstage. This is where you get to learn how so many costumes, special effects and computer animated characters are created!

Once you’re ready to leave Stage 48, your second cart makes a brief stop for photo ops at the “Friends fountain” for anyone who wants to do it – though plenty of people forgo it because they’ve already been on the tour for around two hours at that point. Surprisingly, the “couch” is made of fiberglass so it’s hard as a rock and can be blazing hot as it sits in the LA sun.

warner bros studio tour baby

The final stop on the Warner Bros Studio Tour is a brand new set of exhibits designed to connect WB Studios with younger generations. There are huge areas dedicated to DC Super Heros and Super Villains and to Harry Potter. We spent most of our time in the HP section, which is an official “Wizarding World” location. There are so many fun things to do! Visitors can practice casting spells, pose in iconic scenes and more. It’s a great warm-up to visiting Universal Studios.

If you feel like you’ll want even more behind-the-scenes than the hour with your tour guide, check out the Studio Tour Plus. It includes an extra hour with your guide plus lunch at Central Perk and some other bonuses. This is for true movie and TV buffs!

Is the Warner Brothers Studio worth taking?

warner bros studio tour baby

Absolutely! I’ve taken this tour twice and enjoyed it even more the second time. There’s something in the WB Studios tour for everyone, whether it’s the opportunity to connect with your favorite TV shows and movies or to nerd out on all the cool special effects. We even got to hold a real Oscar!

What you won’t find here are rides and attractions that are typically in a theme park. This is a tour of one of the busiest studios in the world rather than a stand-alone tourist experience. As long as you go into it understanding what to expect, you’ll have a phenomenal time.

How to score at Warner Brothers Studio tour discount

There are a few excellent ways to get a discount on the Warner Brothers Studio tour.

SoCal resident discount

If you live in Southern California, the simplest way to get a discount is to book resident tickets. You don’t need a Warner Brothers Studio tour coupon, but you will need to show proof of residency when you check in. A resident can buy up to 6 tickets, so this is a great option if you have family and friends visiting from out of town. Note that this deal isn’t available during the winter holidays or summer break.

That said, the SoCal resident discount is NOT my favorite way to get discounted tickets for the Warner Brothers Studio tour…

Undercover Tourist Warner Brothers Studio tour tickets

The Undercover Tourist tickets to Warner Brothers Studio is just $1 more for adults but it’s $6 cheaper per child! The huge advantage is that you can use the tickets even during peak dates like summer break. I’ve used Undercover Tourist for tickets in the past and there was never a hiccup; they’re a legitimate travel agency focused on theme parks and other attractions in SoCal and Orlando.

Even better, if you buy your WB Studio Tour tickets and book your rental car at the same time you can save up to 50% off of your car! I’ve done it myself for other tickets and saved hundreds of dollars.

GoCity Los Angeles attractions pass

The GoCity Los Angeles attractions pass is a great way to save money if you’re planning to do a lot of sightseeing in LA. They offer two options, which both include the WB Studios tour: Explorer Pass and All-Inclusive Pass. I’ll explain the difference.

The GoCity Los Angeles Explorer Pass allows you to choose how many attractions you want to visit in a 60 day period. This can be a great option for both visitors and locals! You select between 2 and 7 activities you want to do. The more you do, the more you save. If you really want to explore the city, you could opt for 7 attractions for $163 per adult/$119 per child. In addition to WB Studios, you can check out great options like the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, get a behind-the-scenes tour of SoFi Stadium , see the new King Tut immersive experience, go whale watching and plenty more.

If you’re tight on time but want to do a lot, the GoCity Los Angeles All-Inclusive Pass lets you cram in the best activities within a short amount of time. Pick the number of days you plan to use the Pass and on each day you can do as many activities as you want! You have 14 days to use your All-Inclusive Pass, so you don’t have to use the days consecutively. The All-Inclusive option can be a really great value, especially for theme park lovers: Passes of at least three days include Universal Studios Hollywood , and all durations include LEGOland, Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain (in addition to plenty of other activities). You can even cap off an evening with a dining credit at The Curious Palate (which I love) on the roof of Santa Monica Place!

When’s the best time to take the Warner Brothers Studio tour?

warner bros studio tour baby

If you can, try to schedule your tour of Warner Brothers Studios for a weekday. You’ll see the lot buzzing with activity and might even see some of your favorite celebs! Weekends (as seen above) and holiday periods are much quieter, as there’s rarely filming. Even Hollywood types get time off.

The specific time you’ve booked your tour isn’t critical. Try to arrive around that time but tours run pretty much continuously from 9am to 3:30pm most days. We weren’t able to secure tickets for as early in the day as we preferred, but when we arrived 30 minutes early the attendants told us to go right in. You’ll spend the first part of your visit on your own exploring the engaging exhibit about the Studio’s history anyway.

Obviously if you’ve booked the last tour of the day, show up on time – or early!

What age should kids be for the Warner Brothers Studio tour?

warner bros studio tour baby

The minimum age for the Warner Brothers Studio tour is 5 years old.

That said, I wouldn’t bother bringing kids until they’ve started getting into live action movies unless they’re really interested in special effects. They won’t connect with the sets and story telling as much as older kids and adults so they might get bored.

We took our kids at 8 and 11, and they had already watched all of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies plus several super hero movies. It was great for them, but probably wouldn’t have been even a year earlier.

If you plan to do the Warner Brothers Studio tour with kids, be sure that they’re able to sit calmly and in the open-air cart as it zips around the back lot. There are lap belts for all passengers.

Can you take photos and videos on the Warner Brothers Studio tour?

warner bros studio tour baby

You can’t take videos on the tour at all. You can take photos on most of the tour except when you’re touring the sound stage that’s currently being used for production (even if no one’s working in it that day).

Best places to stay near Warner Brothers Studio tour

The Garland

Just a mile away from Universal Studios in North Hollywood is  The Garland . I’m already looking at rooms for our family’s next trip back to Los Angeles!

Inside the mission-style building, you’ll find a beautiful blending of SoCal craftsman architecture with Mid-Century Modern design touches. For larger crews, this hotel offers quite a few different room types including standard queen-queen rooms, rooms with junior bunk beds in alcoves for early bed times, and even family suites with bunk beds. And for pet owners, The Garland is a pet-friendly hotel in Los Angeles!

If you don’t want to rent a car while you’re in Los Angeles, The Garland is a great option. They have a free trolley shuttle to CityWalk at Universal Studios, as well as to the Red Line (now called “B”) metro station nearby. That metro line will get you to all of the major sites in Hollywood as well as Downtown LA. To get to the Warner Brothers Studio tour, hop on the orange #222 and then walk a few blocks from the Hollywood Way stop – you’ll be there in about 15 minutes.

The Garland

There are also on-site activities available to keep you busy when you aren’t out exploring. There’s a lovely pool and a family jacuzzi, plus a rotating calendar of activities that includes lawn games, local food pop ups, guided tours and hikes in the area and more. It all comes together to make one of the best places to stay in LA with kids!

Pro tip: If you do rent a car, head 5 minutes north to the NoHo Arts District and grab some amazing tacos or ceviche at newcomer Xécora.

How to get to Warner Brothers Studio tour + parking

The Warner Brothers Studio is located in Burbank just off the 134 freeway near Riverside Drive. The tour has its own entrance that is separate from the “working” studio gates , and you’ll be able to find the tour in your favorite navigation app. The entrance is at 3400 Warner Blvd.

If there’s one thing I can’t stand about LA, it’s making captive, money-spending audiences pay for parking. But that’s the way this city goes. The Warner Brothers Studio tour parking cost is $15 per vehicle, payable by credit card when you enter.

Planning on a car-free trip to LA? There are several bus lines that run pretty close to the Warner Brothers Studio tour entrance. The orange metro #222 picks up just in front of The Garland and drops you off at Hollywood Way/Alameda – total transit time for walking and the bus is just over 15 minutes. Visitors staying at the Sheraton Universal City will need to allow 25 minutes to walk and catch the orange #155.

For those staying outside of the immediate area and avoiding a rental car, you’ll probably want to snag an Uber. There are additional transit options (including the Metro Red line) but they’ll take a least 40 minutes each way.

PHOTOS: We Went on the Newly Reopened Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Hollywood!

warner bros studio tour baby

Not long ago we shared that the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood would be reopening on June 26th .

warner bros studio tour baby

We were lucky to take the tour this week and we can’t wait to share everything we saw!

First, we saw Hennessy Street, where we were told that Warner Bros. filmed scenes from Annie (the Carol Burnett version),  Friends , Rent , Batman movies, and The Greatest Showman . It was originally built for gangster movies in the 1930s, when they hired actual marksmen to shoot live bullets at the actors (and hopefully miss!) because it was cheaper than blank bullets at the time.

warner bros studio tour baby

We passed by the fountain from  Friends, but the tour couldn’t stop because a new show is in production there!

warner bros studio tour baby

Next we visited Tenement Alley, where Prince shot the Purple Rain  album cover, and where scenes such as the iconic upside down kiss from  Spider-Man , various parts of Rent , and the Batman movies were filmed.

warner bros studio tour baby

This tower of paper demonstrates how many scripts get rejected for just ONE script that moves forward to shoot a pilot. That’s a LOT of unseen content, y’all.

warner bros studio tour baby

Next, we moved onto the Friends  area! Of course, we had to stop in Central Perk!

warner bros studio tour baby

Unfortunately, Gunther was nowhere to be found, so we thought it was time to keep moving!

warner bros studio tour baby

We also got to see the living room from  The Big Bang Theory!

warner bros studio tour baby

We even saw the baseball jersey that Chadwick Boseman , also known for playing the Black Panther , wore during 42 …

warner bros studio tour baby

…the Honey Bee uniform that the Olsen twins both wore as Michelle Tanner during the filming of Full House …

warner bros studio tour baby

…and the crucifix used in The Exorcist !

warner bros studio tour baby

We also got up close to the Batmobile and various DC superheroes’ outfits used during filming…

warner bros studio tour baby

…before posing as Wonder Woman ourselves! Looking good, Molly!

warner bros studio tour baby

And, then it was time to move on to the Harry Potter section (our favorite part, obviously)! Before we started our journey through the films, we went back to what started it all — the books!

warner bros studio tour baby

You can even find J.K. Rowling’s signature in The Prisoner of Azkaban !

warner bros studio tour baby

Now, onto the sets! We first meet Harry when he is living with the Dursleys with no clue about his wizarding heritage.

warner bros studio tour baby

And, we never realized how small his “bedroom” was until we got a peek inside the cupboard during the tour!

warner bros studio tour baby

Then, that all changed when Harry received his invitation to head to Hogwarts! Next to Harry’s famous spectacles…

warner bros studio tour baby

…you can find one of these letters signed by Professor McGonagall!

warner bros studio tour baby

Of course, Molly had to partake in the scene where the Hogwarts letters all come flying into the house through the fireplace!

warner bros studio tour baby

After Harry finally made it to Hogwarts, he was able to have his wand choose him at Ollivanders!

warner bros studio tour baby

But, there were so many other characters and unique wands used in the films…

warner bros studio tour baby

…which means that over 3,000 were created using wood, plastic, resin, and rubber.

warner bros studio tour baby

Harry’s adventures didn’t stop there, though! At, one point, his bestie rescues him in a flying car…

warner bros studio tour baby

…and you can find one of the 17 1/2 that were made for The Chamber of Secrets film, just hanging about!

warner bros studio tour baby

Later on, Harry continued to get in trouble with items like the Marauder’s Map (we solemnly swear he was up to no good).

warner bros studio tour baby

Harry also made some amazing friends during his time at Hogwarts. Dobby the House Elf happened to be one such character, whose silicone figurine was used during rehearsals. During actual filming, a pole and a green tennis ball were used before the CGI version was edited in afterwards.

warner bros studio tour baby

And, it wouldn’t be a visit to Hogwarts without a trip to the classes offered to students! Potions Class has always looked like a blast to us, but all the behind-the-scenes details made it THAT much better!

warner bros studio tour baby

Before getting into any potions making, we made sure to take a look at the textbooks, tools…

warner bros studio tour baby

…ingredients…

warner bros studio tour baby

…and cauldrons we’d need to proceed!

warner bros studio tour baby

When the actual movies were being filmed, there were more than 500 bottles with handcrafted labels along the shelves. (That’s a HEFTY amount of potions to keep track of!)

warner bros studio tour baby

And, then we were on to making our own potions, like the other students at Hogwarts!

warner bros studio tour baby

We were instructed to make an antidote to common poisons by touching the labels of the ingredients needed and then touching the wand to stir!

warner bros studio tour baby

Molly was successful, of course, as a Slytherin in Professor Snape’s classroom!

warner bros studio tour baby

Then, we made our way over to the Herbology classroom to learn about everything residing in the Greenhouse!

warner bros studio tour baby

And, we were ready to get thrown into our lesson with one of the most notorious plants in the Wizarding World!

warner bros studio tour baby

When this scene was set up, creators made over 50 Mandrake animatronic puppets that would wiggle in their pots and even use their mouths and limbs thanks to radio transmitters, when lifted up.

warner bros studio tour baby

However, the original Harry Potter series isn’t the only one that exists! The prequels in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them featured Newt Scamander, who was in tune with all sorts of magical creatures.

warner bros studio tour baby

You can take a look at the moving landscape that the visual effects team created…

warner bros studio tour baby

…as well as all the maps, notebooks, and tools that made this spot feel like home to Newt.

warner bros studio tour baby

Right next door, you can even learn about many of the Fantastic Beasts that Newt cares for with his interactive book!

warner bros studio tour baby

We have to say that the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood was an absolute blast! And, if you love going behind-the-scenes of your favorite shows and movies, this is a must-do the next time you’re in California. Experience Hollywood Magic at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour

August 2, 2022

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood

One of the great things about living in California is the sheer amount of things for families to do. We love to get away to the Los Angeles area for all it has to offer, and we decided to make our last visit there all about movies and Hollywood. One of the highlights of our trip was the Warner Bros. Studio Tour . It's fun and fascinating, and a must-visit during your family's Hollywood experience!

warner bros studio tour baby

The tour takes place at Warner Bros'. legendary studio and back lot in Burbank. The whole experience is well organized and everyone we met on the tour was super knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Tours start with a brief indroductory video after which you meet your tour guide, board a tram, and head off for your Hollywood experience.

warner bros studio tour baby

On the tour you'll wind through almost every part of the famous Warner Bros. back lot. If you experience a sense of deja vu during your back lot tour, there's a good reason for that — an enormous number of well-known Hollywood movies and TV shows were and are shot here, from The Maltese Falcon, Rebel Without a Cause , and Blazing Saddles to Grease Live , Friends, and Gilmore Girls.

warner bros studio tour baby

Got a favorite movie or TV location you want to see or know more about? Make sure you ask your tour guide and he or she will be happy to point it out. It's also fun to be able to get out of the tram on the back lot and walk around. All the "buildings" on the lot are façades that can be easily modified to suit whatever production is currently filming there. Warner Bros. is an active studio, so during the week you may see filming in action and even catch a glimpse of a star or two!

warner bros studio tour baby

When you're done with the back lot you'll stop at the Warner Bros. Archives, where there's a great display of original costumes and props from productions like the Harry Potter series, including the new  Fantastic Beasts: The  Secrets of Dumbledore  and the DC cinematic universe with familiar characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. Don't miss the chance to "try on" the Sorting Hat and see which Hogwarts house you belong in.

warner bros studio tour baby

On the Deluxe Tour, you can visit the amazing prop department warehouse, which contains a bewildering array of furniture, artwork, and decor, all of which have been used in countless film and television productions. You can sit behind the president's desk on the Oval Office set from The West Wing , say "hi" to a whole gang Agent Smiths from The Matrix, and even see the original piano and "Rick's Café Américain" sign from Casablanca.  The prop warehouse contains over 450,000 objects in 200,000 square feet spread over four different levels. Tourgoers only get to visit one floor of the building, but it's chock full of movie and TV history.

warner bros studio tour baby

You'll also see the studio's collection of original Batmobiles, including the one used in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman , the Tumblers used in the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, and of course the one from the 2022 The Batman .

warner bros studio tour baby

Depending on what day of the week it is, you might be able to visit a soundstage on your tour. On one visit we were able to enter the 1936 Stage 1 soundstage, the scene of many historic movie productions including Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Rebel Without a Cause, Strangers on a Train, Bonnie and Clyde, and Cool Hand Luke.  Stages have placques on the outside showing what movies and TV shows they've been used for over the years.

warner bros studio tour baby

The tour wraps up at the studio's Stage 48, which includes exhibits that take you through every step of the filmmaking process, from screenwriting and casting to editing and special effects. You can explore classic costumes from a wide range of Warner Bros. movies that included Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Crawford and even ride a Batcycle or Nimbus 2000 broom in front of a green screen or recreate a scene from The Hobbit at the forced perspective table.

warner bros studio tour baby

While you're there, don't forget to get a photo of the family sitting on the couch in the original "Central Perk" set from Friends. In the Legacy Room you can see more awards and iconic props from classic movies like Dirty Harry , The Music Man , and Blade Runner .

warner bros studio tour baby

Stage 48 is also home to a café modeled after the Central Perk, where you can get coffee, pastries, and snacks. You exit through the Studio Store, which offers an array of souvenirs and apparel, including almost every Harry Potter item you can think of! We had a fantastic time on the tour, and can't wait to visit again, hopefully when we can see some filming in action. To learn more about the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood visit www.wbstudiotour.com .

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood is located at 3400 West Riverside Drive in Burbank. Tickets start at $69 for adults and $59 for children ages 5–10. Children under 5 are not allowed on the tour. The guided portion of the studio tour lasts one hour, and visitors are welcome to spend as much time as they like on the self-guided part at Stage 48. Plan on spending at least two hours on the tour. Tours leave within 30 minutes of your scheduled time. Parking at the studio's parking structure costs an additional $15 per car.

warner bros studio tour baby

Coffee, drinks, and food can be purchased at the on-site Starbucks adjacent to the tour lobby as well as at the Central Perk Café at Stage 48. Restrooms are available at the tour lobby, Stage 48, and the Warner Bros. Archives — your tour guide will announce the availability of bathroom breaks.

Where to Stay

During our visit we stayed at the Magic Castle Hotel in nearby Hollywood. The experience here was, well, magical! A former 1950s Hollywood apartment building, the Magic Castle Hotel is ideal for families, and most rooms are one- or two-bedroom suites with full kitchens. Other amenities include a 24/7 heated pool, a poolside terrace for outdoor dining, free sodas and soft-serve ice cream, unlimited free snacks like candy bars, popcorn, and chips, free laundry, and a really nice continental breakfast. There's also a Popsicle hotline near the pool. Pick up the phone and a white-gloved attendant will bring you a Popsicle on a silver platter.

The Magic Castle Hotel

The atmosphere here is really fun, the service is super friendly and helpful, and the location is fantastic. We can't wait to come back again on our next trip to LA! The Magic Castle Hotel is located at 7025 Franklin Avenue (one block up from Hollywood Boulevard), Los Angeles 90028. Learn more about it and make reservations at  www.magiccastlehotel.com . You can also call them at (323) 851-0800.

The Magic Castle Hotel

As the name implies, the hotel is right next door to the famous Magic Castle , the private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts that hosts the worlds' most talented magicians. You can't visit unless you secure an invitation from a member  or  if you stay at the Magic Castle hotel. If you want to go, make sure you ask them to arrange for tickets when you make your reservation, since they're subject to availability. Evening dinner shows at the Magic Castle are strictly 21+, but their weekend brunch is family friendly. Learn more about the Magic Castle at  www.magiccastle.com.

Disclosure: The Warner Bros. Tour Hollywood provided us with tickets for our visit.

The first two hours of the tour are guided, and for the next 60 to 90 minutes, you explore some of the best movie props and movie-making experiences by yourself.

This ticket also gets you a discount on merchandise at the Warner Bros. Studio Retail store.

Warner Brothers Studio is 3.2 km (2 miles) from Griffith Park and 6.5 km (4 miles) from the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Address: 3400 Warner Blvd., Burbank, CA 91505. Get directions

North Hollywood is the closest subway station to Warner Brothers Studios in Hollywood.

It is best to board a Red Line train from Downtown Los Angeles’ Union Station . The journey lasts 30 minutes and 13 stops.

From just outside North Hollywood station, take Bus 501 to Warner Bros Studios.

Bus No 501 from North Hollywood

The bus departs approximately every 15 mins, so you won’t have to wait long.

For more train options, check out LA Metro’s website .

Many other buses can also get you to Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, and we list some of them.

*Hollywood / Highland, Universal City, and North Hollywood are Red Line subway stations, while Pasadena / Del Mar is a Gold Line subway station. You will find the buses just outside the stations.

All these buses drop off passengers approximately 400 meters (a quarter of a mile) from the Tour Center.

Los Angeles has many cars, and traffic can be messy, so we don’t recommend driving to the Warner Bros Studios tour.

However, if you must, the easiest way to get there is by using Google Maps .

Enough parking for Studio Tour guests is underground for US$15 per vehicle.

Follow signs for Tour Parking on the Southside of Warner Blvd.

Click here to know more about the nearby parking lots.

The first Warner Bros Studios Tours starts at 8.30 am, and the last tour leaves at 3.30 pm.

A new tour starts every half hour.

On holidays, the studio tour is available for extended hours. However, the attraction remains closed on Christmas.

The tour stands closed on 13 and 14 June.

Warner Bros. Studios Hollywood Tour is a 3-hour-long experience.

The Studios Tour’s guided portion lasts 2 hours, and the self-guided walk-through of ‘Stage 48: Script to Screen’ lasts approximately an hour.

The second (and not so popular) Warner Bros Classics Tour also lasts 3 hours.

Note: It would be best to arrive at the Tour Center at least 20 minutes before the scheduled time because each guest must pass through a metal detector and show legal photo identification before entering the premises.

It is best to choose the first Warner Bros. Studio tour starting at 8.30 am.

In the morning, the crowd is less, and the guides are more energetic, which will help you make the most of the tour.

Weekdays are better than weekends if you want to avoid crowds.

Warner Bros Studios tour discount

The best way to get a discount on Warner Bros Studio Tour tickets is by booking them online in advance.

The ticket prices at the gate are at least a couple of dollars more than what’s available online.

Kids between 5 to 10 years also get a significant discount – they pay only US$60 as against the adult ticket price of US$70.

If you are in Los Angeles for over a week, Go Los Angeles All-Inclusive Pass is a great way to save money.

When you purchase this Pass, you get free entry to more than 40 top attractions in the city, including the Warner Bros Studio.

The Pass is available for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 7 days and when you opt for a 3, 5, or 7-day Pass, you also get a free ticket to Universal Studios Hollywood.

Know before your visit

You must know four critical things before booking your Warner Studios tour.

All guests 18 years and above must show valid government-issued photo identification for security purposes.

The three types of photo IDs accepted before visitors are allowed to join the Warner Bros Studios Tour are:

  • A valid government-issued driver’s license
  • A valid passport
  • A valid state-issued identity card (acceptable only for US guests)

Only kids eight years and older are allowed to join the studio tour.

Yes, that’s right!

Children under eight can’t join the Warner Brothers studio tour.

An adult must accompany visitors aged eight to 17 years.

Since Warner Bros is a working studio, movie and TV production continue even as you go about your tour.

And since the production unit doesn’t want their secrets out in the open, recording video is NOT permitted.

Even photography is allowed only during certain parts of the tour.

The expert guide keeps the tour participants updated on when it is OK to take photographs.

Tip: The studio’s tour happens on a tram-like vehicle, but portions of the 110-acre backlot tour include walking. We recommend walking shoes/sneakers, loose-fitting clothing, and hats for the tour’s outdoor parts.

Food at Warner Bros Studios

During the first two hours of the guided Warner Bros Studios tour, you can’t stop for a bite because you will be part of a group.

But after that, you are on your own and can stop at any of the three dining options.

A full-service Starbucks in the Tour Welcome Center is open from 8.30 am to 5 pm.

It is a great option if you want to re-energize before the start of your tour.

Approximately two hours after your studio tour starts, you will reach Stage 48: Script to Screen.

Here, you will find a working replica of the Central Perk Cafe, as seen in the famous sitcom Friends.

Besides excellent coffee, they also offer various Sandwiches, Salads, Pizza, Grilled Cheese, Hot Dogs, etc.

The Studio Plaza Café is open for breakfast and lunch from Monday through Friday.

It opens at 8 am, closes at 2.30 pm, and remains closed on weekends.

Storytelling Showcase and Pre-Show

Storytellers Showcase with 3-D models of the WB water tower and the famous WB sound stage found in the opening scenes of WB productions

At the start of the tour, you begin in the Storytelling Showcase. As you approach the area, you will be greeted by a ginormous blue wall with the WB logo. As you turn into the room, you will notice frames on the wall that depict the history of film, the Warner Bros. Studio, and the Warner Family. The main attention grabber in this room is the painted aerial view of the Warner Bros. backlot on the floor, which included some 3-D sound stages and a replica of the WB Water Tower, pictured within. After this room, they took us into a small theater where we watched a pre-show before commencing the tour with our guide.

Outdoor Sets and Movie Magic

Outdoor sets at Warner Bros. Studio

The beginning part of the tour consists of a cart ride around the different exterior sets they had on the backlot, pictured above, and referencing any well-known show or movie that used them. For instance, we saw the backlot sets used to shoot the Train Store scenes from Young Sheldon, where Spiderman hung upside down and kissed Mary Jane in the rain, and Luke's Diner from Gilmore Girls. It was interesting to hear about how they transform these sets into different things depending on the needs of the movie or show.

We discovered that despite many buildings appearing to have multiple levels from the outside, the majority consist of only one level. this design choice accommodates the tall equipment, lighting, and microphones used in production. if a scene appears to be shot on a higher level, it is often just a short ledge cleverly utilized for the task rather than an entire floor, showcasing the true essence of movie magic however, some buildings indeed have a second floor, designated as offices for the production staff. yet, during filming inside or outside these specific structures, the staff is restricted from entering while the cameras are rolling..

Sound Stages, Friends Fountain, and Prop Building

Famous orange couch from the show Friends in front of the real fountain from the Friends opening credit scene

A majority of the backlot consists of sound stages. We saw the sound stages dedicated to The Big Bang Theory and Friends, although, at the moment, they were being used to shoot Bob Hearts Abishola and the United States of Al, respectively. On our tour, we got down to walk through one of the sound stages and saw the real sets for a show they were filming that week. After this, we drove to the Friends Fountain for a picture on the couch, as seen above. Believe it or not, this is the real fountain from the Friends opening credit scene. In order to keep it from being destroyed after the show finished, they had to relocate the fountain from its original location at the Warner Bros. Ranch.

Afterward, we drove by the prop building where wb keeps all of the props used in different tv shows and movies to reuse them for another project that may need them later on. the prop building is four stories high, and fun fact, each floor is the size of an american football field. towards the end of our guided tour, we saw one of the tallest sound stages in north america with the wb shield in the front - the same one you see in the preview scenes before a wb production..

Stage 48: Central Perk Café, Exhibits, Friends and The Big Bang Theory Sets, Script to Screen, and Friends Boutique

Costume Lady Gaga wore in the "A Star is Born"

Once the guided portion of the tour was over, our tour guide left us in front of Stage 48, which contained the Central Perk Café (the coffee shop from Friends) in the middle, the Friends' Boutique on the right, and the exhibit entrance on the left. As soon as we entered, we saw the window of the Central Perk Café and noticed that we could order food and drinks - just as if we were actually part of the show. We purchased a red velvet and cream cheese icing cupcake with the Central Perk Cafe logo on top. It was both delicious and a nice little boost of energy before entering the exhibit. The exhibit contained plenty of props, costumes, and informational tidbits about different movies and shows that Warner Bros. Studios has produced, a dress that Lady Gaga wore in "A Star is Born" is pictured above.

DLT! sitting in the Friends Central Perk Café set

A part of the exhibit was being able to sit on the famous orange couch in the Friends' Central Perk Set, pictured above, and seeing 3-sets of The Big Bang Theory: the hallway with the broken elevator, Leonard and Sheldon's living room, and the University Cafeteria. I am a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory! So, I was beyond excited to pretend to walk up the stairs and sit on Sheldon's couch cushion - which Big Bang fans know is a sin in Sheldon's eyes.

After having to be pulled away from the big bang theory section by matthew, we entered "stage 48: script to screen." a great way to describe this area is a room with a few green screens that allow for interactive activities, like being filmed riding harry potter's broom or the batpod. these experiences were included; however, if you wanted the final video, you needed to purchase it., before leaving this section, we entered a small room that featured a short video demonstrating the process of adding sound effects, music, and actor voiceovers to the film gravity. it was an incredibly informative presentation upon concluding our exploration of the exhibits, we exited through the friends' boutique. inside was a replica of the famous orange couch, additional seating (likely an extension of the small café seating), and a wide array of friends-themed souvenirs..

DC Universe Super Heroes, DC Universe Super Villains, Harry Potter, Celebration of Awards, and Warner Bros. Studio Store

DC Super Hero mannequins in their costumes from their respective movies

After Stage 48, we took a second golf cart ride to another building to begin the last part of our tour. This brought us to the DC Super Heroes and Super Villians section and the Harry Pottery and Fantastic Beasts section. Within the DC section, we saw mannequin versions of the superheroes and villains wearing their costumes from the actual movies, heroes pictured above. They even had a Batcave with some Batmobiles, including the one used for the Dark Knight, an interactive design station for people to create their own Batmobile, a small Aquaman Lair, and Wonder Woman's Study!

My favorite part in the dc section was wonder woman's study - there was an interactive wonder woman lasso that glowed when manually pressured - it allowed for a cool boomerang. the employee in the dc section was so helpful in making sure we got the best boomerang angle and also pointed out other photo ops within this area..

Outfits on display from the Secrets of Dumbledore

In the Harry Potter films section, we 'made potions,' practiced our wand choreography, took a peek in Harry's cupboard under the stairs, and visited the Herbology classroom - amongst other things. Matthew's favorite part in the Harry Potter section was the Great Hall, where the Official Sorting Hat sorted anyone under it into a Hogwarts House. The last room of the tour was the Celebration of Awards exhibit, which displayed various awards through the years, like Oscars and Emmys. The coolest part about this section was that we got to hold a real Oscar! It is heavier than I thought, coming in at 8.5 pounds for a 13.5-inch gold man. Once we finished up with all the exhibits, we exited through the gift shop and ended back in the lobby.

"True Blood" - Merlotte’s Bar and Grill (Practical House, the Jungle)

Situated in the eastern portion of the lot is a lush, foliage-covered set known as the Jungle . At the center of the massive outdoor set sits a large 130x95-foot basin that can be filled with 250,000 gallons of water and dressed to resemble a lagoon, lake or swamp. Hundreds of species of trees dot the landscape surrounding the basin, as do several wooden structures, making it one of the most versatile spots on the backlot. The Jungle was originally constructed in 1956 for the filming of Santiago in which it portrayed Cuba. The cinematic stalwart has since gone on to mask as everything from rural Missouri in Million Dollar Baby to war-torn Vietnam on China Beach and 1870s Japan in The Last Samurai . The lagoon was even transformed into a flooded Chicago city culvert for the Season 2 episode of ER titled “Hell and High Water” in which Dr. Doug Ross (George Clooney) famously rescued a drowning boy.

Positioned on the northern bank of the lagoon is a large ramshackle wooden structure that was originally built for the television series Invasion . The set piece is best known, though, for its role as Merlotte’s Bar and Grill , the watering hole owned by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) on the hit HBO series True Blood . The same structure also appeared as the Rammer Jammer restaurant on Hart of Dixie and the Lost Woods Resort on Pretty Little Liars .

A stairwell at Cartoon Network Studios captured 20 years of history. Now you can see it, too

When Calvin Wong learned that Cartoon Network Studios would be moving out of its longtime home in Burbank last year, he was overwhelmed by sadness.

The storied building was the launching point for numerous animated favorites over the years, including “ Samurai Jack ,” “ Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends ,” “ Adventure Time ” and more. It was also where Wong started his first animation job years ago as a storyboard revisionist on “Regular Show.”

But what most concerned the “We Baby Bears” showrunner was the fate of a stairwell he walked by every day on the way to his office. Since opening its doors in 2000, the studio had given its staff free rein to draw on the walls in one of the building’s stairwells. More than 20 years worth of memories, milestones and inside jokes were etched on those walls by the people who walked through the building.

“Imagining someone with a paint roller painting over those walls just made me really sad,” said Wong during a recent video call. “It made me sad that the history of it — warts and all — would be painted over. I think that’s what ultimately made me want to preserve it. [But] I wasn’t sure how we were going to do it.”

On Monday, Cartoon Network Studios launched its website commemorating this artist stairwell. For the first time ever, the general public can get a detailed look and take a virtual tour of the space as it was before the art was removed. In addition to a 3D walkthrough, the website includes snapshots and anecdotes from current and former staffers who left their marks on those walls.

Wong, who helped spearhead the preservation efforts, hopes the website will encourage more people to share their stories.

For “The Powerpuff Girls” creator Craig McCracken , the former Cartoon Network Studios building was a special place.

“I literally helped pick the building,” said McCracken, explaining that former Cartoon Network executives Mike Lazzo and Rob Sorcher had shared their early plans for a studio with him and “Dexter’s Laboratory” creator Genndy Tartakovsky . “We knew for, like, two years that they were going to get us a studio, but we weren’t allowed to say anything.“

Craig McCracken, creator of the show Powerpuff Girls, poses for a portrait.

When ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ arrived 25 years ago, a cute, crime-fighting trio took over the world

On the 25th anniversary of its premiere, creator Craig McCracken spoke about ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ origins and how the animated trio became a pop culture phenomenon.

Nov. 17, 2023

After being shown a few options in Burbank, McCracken and Tartakovsky helped pick the location on the corner of Third Street and Palm Avenue that, according to reports at the time, was a former Pacific Bell building. They even provided input for the design of the artists’ workspaces. (“Everyone assumes that animators like big wacky shapes and lots of colors and things like that, but we want neutral, organic, wood,” said McCracken.)

As soon as the studio was officially open, the artists were given cans of spray paint and told they were free to write and draw in the four-story stairwell.

“It was really a place for creative experimentation and creative freedom,” said McCracken. “[The executives] really valued and appreciated the artists and the stairwell was sort of their way of saying, ‘This is yours.’ So every day, when you would be going up between the floors, you were reminded of the freedom we had here at Cartoon Network.”

Only the earliest graffiti was done in spray paint, however. For health and safety reasons the artists were quickly told that they had to switch to pens or pencils. Over the years, the walls have been filled in with self-portraits, drawing of characters from various shows and even messages responding to notes left years prior.

Jessie Juwono, who works on the studio’s artist management team, first walked through the Cartoon Network Studios doors as a production intern in 2009.

“The stairwell felt really magical, especially when you came in as an intern,” said Juwono, who noted the creativity “felt electric.”

Juwono commemorated her time as an intern with a drawing of a character she created in the stairwell. Years later, when she returned to the studio as a staffer, she added another piece right next to it.

“It was a cool full circle moment,” said Juwono. “I decided to sign it again right under my old drawing to have it be like ‘and all these years later, she came back and she had this new title and new name and the same love for animation.’“

Wong remembers feeling a bit overwhelmed and intimidated by the history it represented when he walked into the artist stairwell for the first time, but what he appreciates is that “the wall was very democratic.”

“Anybody could draw on it,” said Wong. “So you’d have some legendary sketches but, a [visiting] little kid would draw right next to it.”

For Wong, that was a reflection of Cartoon Network Studios’ ethos, where the creative voices of everyone at every level were valued.

“It was a place that was really open to any ideas,” said Wong. “Anybody could come pitch something. We put creators first, no matter how you drew or where you came from.”

Nick Winn, a prop and character designer on shows like “ Craig of the Creek ” and “Jessica’s Big Little World,” describes the artist stairwell as a museum and “a time machine.”

Drawings of Jessica, Small Uncle and Craig from "Jessica's Big Little World" on a white wall

“The stairwell shows the times and how styles have changed throughout the years,” said Winn. “Seeing drawings from people like Craig McCracken, [the] ‘ Steven Universe ’ [crew] … as someone who’s grown up with Cartoon Network, it all was really breathtaking to me.”

Although Winn liked to take in the art in the stairwell, it wasn’t until after “Jessica’s Big Little World” wrapped that he added drawings of his own along with other members of the crew.

“I kept forgetting to draw in the stairwell,” said Winn. “When the last day hit, I was determined to draw in that stairwell before I left.”

Occasionally the memories commemorated within the stairwell were bittersweet. Wong remembers the staffers of “Driftwood” adding “all these beautiful drawings from that project” on the walls on the day they’d learned their animated film was suddenly canceled .

While Cartoon Network Studios continues to exist, since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger in 2022, its production and development teams were consolidated with Warner Bros. Animation’s. After vacating their former building, the studio’s current staff have moved into the Frank Gehry-designed iceburg-like office buildings near the Warner Bros. lot. (Their new space is decorated with mementos of the old Cartoon Network Studios building, including wallpaper based on the artists stairwell.)

“Cartoon Network really cared about their artists in a way that wasn’t just [about] mak[ing] a cartoon so we can make some money,” said Winn.

For some of the artists, the shuttering of the building marked an end of an era — especially as the animation industry had been deeply affected by streamers trying to course-correct on their lavish overspending even before Hollywood’s recent contraction . Others remain optimistic that Cartoon Network Studios will retain what made it special for them.

Although Juwono was sad about the studio vacating its storied building, she notes that in animation, “things are always changing and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.”

“No matter what building we’re in, I think we’ll always have this creative spirit that can’t be contained,” said Juwono.

McCracken echoed her sentiment.

“Seeing [the building] shut down was sad, but it’s not really the place, it’s the people,” he said. “The spirit of Cartoon Network still exists among the artists in the community. But that place was special and the stairwell, especially, was special.”

Dua Lipa Calls Her Cameos in Barbie and Argylle Her 'Little Baby Roles'

The musician briefly divulges about her time on the sets of "Barbie" and "Argylle" in a new interview with Time

Warner Bros./Max; Universal Pictures

Dua Lipa remains very "Cool" about her recent movie roles.

In a new interview with Time 100 Most Influential People , the Grammy winner divulged what's to come from her upcoming third studio album , Radical Optimism , as well as her recent ventures on the big screen.

Throughout the conversation, the Grammy winner chatted about appearances in Argylle and Barbie this past year.

The Golden Globe nominee worked with music producer Mark Ronson on the Best Original Song nominated song “ Dance the Night ” for the 2023 hit film Barbie — which was the film’s first official single. Along with writing an original song for the Greta Gerwig movie, Lipa also had a brief cameo in the feature film as “ Mermaid Barbie .”

Along with her star turn in the summer blockbuster, the 28-year-old popstar also appeared in the comedic mystery movie Argylle , which premiered in February. She portrayed the villainous LaGrange and was in the 139-minute-long movie for around 15 minutes.

With both under her belt, Lipa told Time that she refers to those two appearances as her “little baby roles.”

Warner Bros./Max

"I loved being on set,” the multi-hyphenate shared. “I love the idea of embodying a different character and having an assignment.”

“I also love when I go to a photo shoot, and I can completely change up my look,” she added. “It gives me like a different persona.”

“I loved being in the movie because it was just so exciting to be a part of something so special like this with an incredible cast,” the star told Vogue of her role in Barbie ahead of the film’s July 21, 2023 premiere. “I feel lucky that [director] Greta Gerwig asked me to be the mermaid.”

Universal Pictures; Apple Original Film

After the Barbiemania began to dissipate, the Future Nostalgia singer told Vanity Fair in December 2023,  that she felt like she “holding the biggest secret in the world from the song to the little cameo,” adding how the experience “was fun and exciting.”

“It was a crazy back-to-back! It was like, OK, today I’m going to go and put on four different colored wigs and a mermaid tail, and tomorrow I’m going to fly and get up onstage again and do something completely different,” she explained to Vanity Fair.

Warner Bros Becomes First Studio To Make $1 Billion in 2024

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Warner Bros is still riding the Kenergy high, it appears, because the success of last summer's box office hit Barbie has set the studio on a trajectory of landing hit after hit at the box office.

Following Barbie 's $1.4 billion success, the studio's big winter release, Wonka, scored a whopping $632.3 million at the global box office, and that momentum from 2023 has rolled on into 2024.

Warner Bros has already hit a combined total of $1 billion at the box office from its 2024 releases, doing so in just 15 weeks.

They are the first studio to reach that milestone this year, as per Film Updates.

So far this year, Warner Bros has released two successful sequels to films from their 2021 slate, a follow-up to Denis Villeneuve's Dune and the successor to Adam Wingard's Godzilla vs. Kong .

Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire are both currently in theaters, still raking in box office takings worldwide.

Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two is currently sitting at $683.9 million at the global box office, while Wingard's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has scored $436.5 million. Combined, they have secured over $1.1 billion.

Warner Bros has more sequels, spin-offs and reboots on the slate this year.

First up is George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga , which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month ahead of its May 24 theatrical release.

Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road hit theaters in 2015, serving as a reboot of his Mad Max films from the 70s and 80s, and won six Oscars.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is another chapter of the Mad Max story.

Warner Bros' summer blockbuster offering is Twisters , which is being marketed as "an update" to Jan de Bont's 1996 Twister , starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.

Twisters will feature an ensemble cast of Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Maura Tierney, Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka and Nik Dodani.

Then, later in the year, the studio will release Beetlejuice Beetlejuice , serving as a follow-up to Tim Burton's 1988 cult classic Beetlejuice , starring Michael Keaton and Catherine O'Hara. It will hit theaters on September 6.

Rounding out the year, Warner Bros will release Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux , a sequel to Phillips' two-time Oscar-winning Joker. Phoenix is joined, this time around, by Lady Gaga, who plays Harley Quinn.

Related: Joker 2 Trailer: First Preview of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in New Film

Warner Bros does have some originals on its slate, too.

It will release Challengers this month, starring Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O'Connor from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino.

Then, they have plans to release the feature debut of Ishana Shyamalan, The Watchers , which is expected in theaters this June.

Will the studio continue its box office success throughout the year? We'll see as the months unfold.
