Leger also offer tours to the Oberammergau Passion Play , an event that only takes place every ten years, the next time this play will be performed is 2020! In 1633, Bavaria was hit by the Great Plague and the villagers of Oberammergau vowed that if lives were spared, the village would perform a play of the story of Christ's suffering, dying and resurrection. After this vow, no more lives were taken by the Plague, and after the first play in 1934, the villagers of Oberammergau have performed the play, every ten years.

Informative experience

Ben Mayne our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and happy to discuss matters at length with all from the party. Ash and Andy our drivers were very careful and considerate. A couple of small issues however. The days were very long with early rises. I think this should be made clearer in the brochure. The Silver Service coach we had did not provide the leg room I had expected. This was brought more to light when the transfer coach I was allocated on return was much more what I had anticipated. I trust these comments are useful to you and should in no way detract from what was an enjoyable/educational trip. Well done.

LUXURIA LEGER BATTLEFIELD - AIR WAR EUROPE TOUR

A wonderful tour of 2 Dambuster Dams, Colditz, Dresden, Zagan (Great Escape), Berlin, Hanover and highlight for me seeing Guy Gibson's grave at Steenburgen. Specialist guide Marc Hope was on fine form, even getting us partly into Colditz Castle when it was still officially closed and as always full of fascinating information. The drivers Neil and Marcus were excellent and a nice group of passenger too. Well done and thank you. PS So happy, I've just booked 4 more tours.

The Great War - WWI

The tour guide, Gary, had a great depth of knowledge and treated every traveller with enthusiasm, answering their questions, but with respect for their loss. The coach drivers were very good and the coach was comfortable and clean. I would definitely recommend this four day tour.

Hotel Ibis in Falaise

The Hotel provided was too far out meaning that we had longer transit times to the itinerary destinations. This impacted on the time allowed to spend looking at the memorials/museums etc. Also the hotel restaurant was not open in the evenings so alternative places had to be sourced for hot meals which meant more travelling time and limited time to order and eat food. The saving grace was that Ben, the Guide was exceptional with his knowledge and visual aids providing a real understanding of what the brave soldiers encountered during the Normandy landings. Thanks must also go to Ash & Andy who looked after us all so well on the coach.

My second tour with Leger. Fantastic once again. The knowledge of the guide and the professionalism of the drivers is absolutely brilliant. The only slight downside was the return journey, which dragged on for hours. I am already thinking about next years adventure.

The guide Ben Mayne was excellent and knowledgeable

The guide Ben Mayne was excellent providing a tremendous commentary full of historical facts. The drivers Tony and Ashley gave us a smooth journey and the coach was maintained to a high standard. The element that spoiled the experience was the hotel dining room not being open on the Saturday and Sunday evening. This stopped there being a relaxed end to the day. We had to detour to a restaurant and eat dinner in a fairly short time before returning to the hotel. It has to be said that Ben, Tony and Ashley did their very best to find us a location to eat dinner and that is appreciated. The trip as a whole was very good but tiring.

A very tiring holiday but we'll worth…

A very tiring holiday but we'll worth it not for the fainthearted. Mike and Lorraine were brilliant hosts couldn't fault them. We saw many different countries and sights.

Great experience

Great experience, Heidi & Mick our drivers were really good clean coach and good service. Our tour guide Gary was brilliant his knowledge was outstanding and really good communication. Only downside was journey back was passport control at Calais, lead other coaches didn't get the ferry which lead to delays in transportation back home, no stops on way apart from 1 quick toilet stop.

The amount of knowledge our tour guide, Ben Mayne, shared with us in a way that really brought the historic day's history, and of the days immediately following it, alive. Also, the expert driving skills of Ash, who negotiated so many really narrow lanes!

Maginot Magic

Recent tour of Maginot Line was a fascinating experience albeit rather tiring Excellent drivers/hosts Anne-Marie and John combined with informative specialist guide D Warren to make this a great trip. This was a rare chance to visit these unique fortifications with a group of likeminded enthusiasts. Can’t emphasise enough how hospitable our drivers were in terms of light relief during the whole trip!

Battlefield experience

The All Quiet On the Western Front was my first experience of a guided tour by Leger. This was an excellent trip for my son in law and I. The tour guide, Andrew Atherton, the drivers, Tom Scott and Dave were brilliant! Very professional and a barrel of laughs. Andrew was knowledgeable and professional also. The hotel, albeit a good drive from anywhere, was comfortable, food was excellent and staff were great! The only down side was the bus, it was an executive bus, but still not very comfortable! I wish I had gone for the Silver Service bus. Overall though, a good experience, would do again!

Understanding the Holocaust, Auschwitz, Krakow & Schindler's Factory by Air

There was a lot of walking at the sites on the tour and to/from the hotel into Krakow centre, but the tour and representatives were very good. The Vienna House Easy Hotel was excellent (breakfast was delicious), but we didn't find out until the last day that we could have asked for a kettle in our room!

Never again!

Several complaints but worst part of all was the rush to get us on an earlier ferry meaning we ended up waiting in the freezing cold at Stop24 Folkestone for 3hrs!! I will be putting in an official complaint re this issue and several others. Leger you should be ashamed of your company allowing this. Several passengers were not fully mobile so not able to keep moving to try and keep warm. Totally selfish on the part of our 2 drivers in Italy, Anthea and Steve, who so obviously wanted to get shot of us to get home themselves. The coach was uncomfortable to sleep on too, seat cushions hard and the suspension on the coach terrible as felt every bump, sleeping nigh on impossible. Breakfast at 7am every day at hotel to be on coach for 07:40. Toilet and coach never cleaned. Only good things, hotel very clean and Luca and staff lovely. No complaints on the actual driving, felt safe all the time. Places we visited were lovely.

A wonderful 5 days holiday.

A wonderful 5 days holiday. A great 5 days with Andy, Tim and Dave. Andy absolutely brought the tour to life, his knowledge, helpfulness and passion was being expectations. Dave and Tom were great drivers/hosts. A great team. The tour was really well constructed, hotel was great. As a WW1 experience, I would recommend it, it was an experience that I will not forget. Thanks to all three of the team.

Lovely trip

Lovely trip, excellent drivers Chris and Dean. Very friendly and super knowledgeable. The only downside was the hotel in Fiuggi (Villa Laura) very basic, more like a hostel, not the standard we would have expected considering the price of the tour.

Luxuria coach very worth it!

Luxuria coach definitely worth the supplement. Glad hotel (WICC) had a restaurant serving dinner. This was very good although slow service and takeaway breakfast on last morning inedible. The twin hotel room was adequate but small as was the bathroom. Itinerary enjoyable with enough time to explore, drop offs well placed. Drivers (Jonathon & Paul) both very good, helpful, friendly, polite and appropriate interaction. We should have been notified of 02.30 pick up from Bury before booking - that’s a bit too early as was the 05.30 departure. Overall we enjoyed the trip - glad we did 4 nights rather than 3.

People and organization are what made this a 5-star experience

People and organization are what made my Maginot Line Tour outstanding. David, our guide, knew the history of the Maginot Line backward and forward and also knew the locations of many fortifications between tour stops. He was friendly, engaging, and an absolute pleasure to travel with. While there were some long stretches between stops, his insight and commentary (and humor) made them go by in a flash. Ann Marie and John handled the driving and in-coach service superbly. Like David, they were professional, friendly, and efficient. Speaking of efficiency, the tour logistics were flawless. We had a schedule and stuck to it beautifully without ever feeling rushed. Our Leger team kept us constantly informed regarding timetables and what to expect. This was my first organized tour, one I'd been looking forward to for years. Before leaving, folks told me Leger had an excellent reputation, and I see why - they set a high bar for other tour providers to strive to match. I'm not ordinarily one to either go on a coach trip, or leave a review, however, as a Battlefield Tour is primarily reachable, better through a coach tour..... Here goes; the coach side of it from booking, pickup, drop-off and conduct throughout was seamless and thanks goes out to Heidi and Mick for facilitating. The Battlefield Tour, led by Neil was SUPERB! Neil had an encyclopedic level of knowledge of Ypres, the Somme and in all fairness, all things WWI; he shared his knowledge and passion for it remarkably. First class from Neil!

Hotel Ibis in Falaise

The Hotel provided was too far out meaning that we had longer transit times to the itinerary destinations. This impacted on the time allowed to spend looking at the memorials/museums etc. Also the hotel restaurant was not open in the evenings so alternative places had to be sourced for hot meals which meant more travelling time and limited time to order and eat food. The saving grace was that Ben, the Guide was exceptional with his knowledge and visual aids providing a real understanding of what the brave soldiers encountered during the Normandy landings. Thanks must also go to Ash & Andy who looked after us all so well on the coach.

My second tour with Leger. Fantastic once again. The knowledge of the guide and the professionalism of the drivers is absolutely brilliant. The only slight downside was the return journey, which dragged on for hours. I am already thinking about next years adventure.

The guide Ben Mayne was excellent and knowledgeable

The guide Ben Mayne was excellent providing a tremendous commentary full of historical facts. The drivers Tony and Ashley gave us a smooth journey and the coach was maintained to a high standard. The element that spoiled the experience was the hotel dining room not being open on the Saturday and Sunday evening. This stopped there being a relaxed end to the day. We had to detour to a restaurant and eat dinner in a fairly short time before returning to the hotel. It has to be said that Ben, Tony and Ashley did their very best to find us a location to eat dinner and that is appreciated. The trip as a whole was very good but tiring.

Great experience

Great experience, Heidi & Mick our drivers were really good clean coach and good service. Our tour guide Gary was brilliant his knowledge was outstanding and really good communication. Only downside was journey back was passport control at Calais, lead other coaches didn't get the ferry which lead to delays in transportation back home, no stops on way apart from 1 quick toilet stop.

Maginot Magic

Recent tour of Maginot Line was a fascinating experience albeit rather tiring Excellent drivers/hosts Anne-Marie and John combined with informative specialist guide D Warren to make this a great trip. This was a rare chance to visit these unique fortifications with a group of likeminded enthusiasts. Can’t emphasise enough how hospitable our drivers were in terms of light relief during the whole trip!

Battlefield experience

The All Quiet On the Western Front was my first experience of a guided tour by Leger. This was an excellent trip for my son in law and I. The tour guide, Andrew Atherton, the drivers, Tom Scott and Dave were brilliant! Very professional and a barrel of laughs. Andrew was knowledgeable and professional also. The hotel, albeit a good drive from anywhere, was comfortable, food was excellent and staff were great! The only down side was the bus, it was an executive bus, but still not very comfortable! I wish I had gone for the Silver Service bus. Overall though, a good experience, would do again!

Understanding the Holocaust, Auschwitz, Krakow & Schindler's Factory by Air

There was a lot of walking at the sites on the tour and to/from the hotel into Krakow centre, but the tour and representatives were very good. The Vienna House Easy Hotel was excellent (breakfast was delicious), but we didn't find out until the last day that we could have asked for a kettle in our room!

Never again!

Several complaints but worst part of all was the rush to get us on an earlier ferry meaning we ended up waiting in the freezing cold at Stop24 Folkestone for 3hrs!! I will be putting in an official complaint re this issue and several others. Leger you should be ashamed of your company allowing this. Several passengers were not fully mobile so not able to keep moving to try and keep warm. Totally selfish on the part of our 2 drivers in Italy, Anthea and Steve, who so obviously wanted to get shot of us to get home themselves. The coach was uncomfortable to sleep on too, seat cushions hard and the suspension on the coach terrible as felt every bump, sleeping nigh on impossible. Breakfast at 7am every day at hotel to be on coach for 07:40. Toilet and coach never cleaned. Only good things, hotel very clean and Luca and staff lovely. No complaints on the actual driving, felt safe all the time. Places we visited were lovely.

A wonderful 5 days holiday.

A wonderful 5 days holiday. A great 5 days with Andy, Tim and Dave. Andy absolutely brought the tour to life, his knowledge, helpfulness and passion was being expectations. Dave and Tom were great drivers/hosts. A great team. The tour was really well constructed, hotel was great. As a WW1 experience, I would recommend it, it was an experience that I will not forget. Thanks to all three of the team.

Lovely trip

Lovely trip, excellent drivers Chris and Dean. Very friendly and super knowledgeable. The only downside was the hotel in Fiuggi (Villa Laura) very basic, more like a hostel, not the standard we would have expected considering the price of the tour.

Luxuria coach very worth it!

Luxuria coach definitely worth the supplement. Glad hotel (WICC) had a restaurant serving dinner. This was very good although slow service and takeaway breakfast on last morning inedible. The twin hotel room was adequate but small as was the bathroom. Itinerary enjoyable with enough time to explore, drop offs well placed. Drivers (Jonathon & Paul) both very good, helpful, friendly, polite and appropriate interaction. We should have been notified of 02.30 pick up from Bury before booking - that’s a bit too early as was the 05.30 departure. Overall we enjoyed the trip - glad we did 4 nights rather than 3.

People and organization are what made this a 5-star experience

People and organization are what made my Maginot Line Tour outstanding. David, our guide, knew the history of the Maginot Line backward and forward and also knew the locations of many fortifications between tour stops. He was friendly, engaging, and an absolute pleasure to travel with. While there were some long stretches between stops, his insight and commentary (and humor) made them go by in a flash. Ann Marie and John handled the driving and in-coach service superbly. Like David, they were professional, friendly, and efficient. Speaking of efficiency, the tour logistics were flawless. We had a schedule and stuck to it beautifully without ever feeling rushed. Our Leger team kept us constantly informed regarding timetables and what to expect. This was my first organized tour, one I'd been looking forward to for years. Before leaving, folks told me Leger had an excellent reputation, and I see why - they set a high bar for other tour providers to strive to match. I'm not ordinarily one to either go on a coach trip, or leave a review, however, as a Battlefield Tour is primarily reachable, better through a coach tour..... Here goes; the coach side of it from booking, pickup, drop-off and conduct throughout was seamless and thanks goes out to Heidi and Mick for facilitating. The Battlefield Tour, led by Neil was SUPERB! Neil had an encyclopedic level of knowledge of Ypres, the Somme and in all fairness, all things WWI; he shared his knowledge and passion for it remarkably. First class from Neil!

Leger holidays 2022/23 to feature 17 new tours.

Leger Holidays has unveiled a new 224-page Europe and worldwide brochure for 2022 and 2023, featuring more than a dozen new tours.

The brochure, which can be viewed online or in print, includes more than 300 holidays with "thousands" of departure dates and 17 new tours.

  Holidays range from short breaks to eight to 22-day tours, with single traveller holidays, festive breaks, rail experiences, flowers and gardens holidays and river cruises on offer. Destinations featured include Italy, France, Spain, Austria, US, Canada, India, Japan and New Zealand.

  The brochure also includes tours combined with an event, including the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe horse racing, the Italian, Belgian and Spanish Grand Prix and musical events.

Leger Shearings Group’s head of retail sales, Ashley Dellow, said "all the signs" are that travel agents "can finally sell overseas holidays with confidence".

"Leger Holidays adjusted well and fast when travel was restricted and introduced more UK escorted coach tours but finally we can offer a really wide selection of the value-for-money European tours Leger is so famous for," he added.   The new tours include a six-day Adare, West Coast of Ireland & the Lakelands tour, priced from £649pp. Carinthia & Three Countries is a new 12-day tour of Carinthia and costs £1,349pp.

It was great to be able to be there by ourselves and the monk that showed us around and Anton both were obviously very passionate about the monastery so you were able to understand much better what the various churches and icons meant to them The view from the bell tower was awesome even if the climb up took some faith! We organized that tour from Australia well ahead of time, planning to visit Zvenigorod with big group of extended family and friends with teens as part of our New Year trip to Moscow. The communication with Anton, our guide, was excellent during the time since booking till the excursion day. The actual day was organized very good, taken into account mixed group of adults, born in USSR and kids, born in Australia. Anton organized our activities to be suitable for all of us. As adults, we were enjoyed country side during winter and Monastery's quietness and ability to jump to the cold "holy" water at one of the oldest Monasteries of Russia - Savva Storoghevskiy Man Monastery. That was the most amazing and nearly magical experience! Kids were enjoyed of snow and treats Anton provide for us, including buisquits and Sbiten'. We also visited very interesting Museum of Russian desserts and learn a lot about ancient russian sweets; have a look on our past in the Museum of USSR and bought some yammie things to enjoy later. In general we all agree that our tour to Zvenigorod with Anton was enjoyable and educational; well organized and unforgettable. We wish we would have more time there! He took us down the bunker 43 meter down the surface, explained about the heavy doors and let us open them, kept us informed about its functions and introduced us whatever exhibits were left there. There is an interesting balance of history, access you would not expect around a monastery, the visuals of the architecture and decoration, unique chance to observe the inner workings of the monastery, views from vantage points and the towers. The metro is so interesting and important for local citizens, Red Square is amazing, St. Basil cathedral was iconic both outside and even more interesting inside. It was both interesting and educational seeing central Moscow streets. Anton managed to book us a table for lunch with delicious local food and he helped us with recommendations for dinner (booked is a table as well). Brilliant job, Moscow with locals!
