Who is opening up for the Jonas Brothers on The Tour?

Everyone knows the Jonas Brothers and the band seems to be everywhere right now. It’s only right as the band embarked on The Tour.

With the release of The Album , a lot of us anticipated a tour and the band even started off with 2 nights back-to-back at Yankee Stadium. That was huge and a great way to start the tour off with a bang.

Since the band is set to perform a lot of songs, some were curious about if JB had someone opening for them or not. I mean 5 albums worth of songs is a lot of songs and frankly, a lot of hours of singing.

Whether you’re headed to a concert soon or just want to know the details, we’ve got the scoop on if the Jonas Brothers have an opening act for the tour.

Who is opening for the Jonas Brothers on The Tour? (2023)

For The Tour, the Jonas Brothers are keeping it in the family. They decided to have Lawrence open for them. Similar to the brothers, the band is made up of two siblings: Clyde and Gracie Lawrence along with their band. Aside from the siblings, the band actually features 6 musicians. Lawrence has also worked with Jon Bellion in the past and even on some songs featured on The Album .

While Lawrence might seem like an unlikely choice, the connection to Jon Bellion and them being siblings had to play a major role. Regardless of why they chose Lawrence, at least we all know who is opening for this massively exciting tour. Plus this is a question I see floating around a lot especially in some of the Jonas Facebook groups I’m apart of.

If you’re headed to see the Jonas Brothers on The Tour, you might want to check out one of Lawrence’s songs which I’m adding below. If you’ve already been to the see The Tour, then I’d love to know what you thought of Lawrence and how they did opening up for the Jo Bros.

The Jonas Brothers and Lawrence are currently on tour together. You can buy tickets here .

Jonas Brothers Promise ‘Five Albums Every Night’ on North American Tour

By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

The Jonas Brothers will dig into their own “eras” bag with a new North American tour that will find them performing “five albums every night.” A few weeks before its kick-off, the band has extended their biggest tour yet with the addition of 26 new shows in North America and 27 new shows in Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.

“The Tour,” as it’s being called, appears to build off the band’s recent Broadway residency , during which they played one of their albums in its entirety each night, along with a selection of hits. The shows covered 2007’s self-titled up through their new LP, The Album , released May 12 (no luck for fans of 2006’s It’s About Time ).

Anyway, “The Tour” will kick off with the band’s two previously-announced how’s at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Aug. 12 and 13. The run was originally scheduled to wrapping on Oct. 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Now, it will continue with a show at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on Oct. 18 and extend through June 20, when it will conclude with a show in Northern Ireland. The new dates include shows in Brooklyn, Portland, Newark, Nashville, Vancouver, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and more.

The touring news comes just 10 days ahead of the May 12 release of The Album , the Jonas Brothers’ first record since 2019’s Happiness Begins . Kevin, Joe and Nick have effectively been working toward The Tour since February, when they staged a five-night run of intimate shows on Broadway in New York. Each night, they played a different one of their albums, starting with 2007’s self-titled LP and ending with the live debut of The Album .

In April, the guys played two sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium in New York, both of which included run-throughs of all five of the albums spread out across five nights on Broadway two months prior. This format will now be applied to every night of The Tour , as explained by Kevin, Joe and Nick in an Instagram announcement video.

Jonas Brothers announce 50 new dates to their tour: How to get tickets

Jonas Brothers are going global!

On July 27, Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas announced  on Instagram  that they’ve added more than 50 dates to their tour, which kicks off this August in New York City. The added dates include 26 new shows across North America and 27 in Northern Island, Australia, Munich and more.

The Instagram announcement of The Tour extension features a video of the brothers playfully yelling that they want more.

“You heard us… we want MORE!” the caption for the post reads. “We added additional dates for THE TOUR in Australia, Europe and the US. For all North American shows you can now register for Verified Fan until July 31st at 10PM ET at jonasbrothers.com for your chance to purchase tickets!”

In May, the “Waffle House” singers announced they would take their latest collection, “The Album,” on the road for The Tour and perform five albums every night. Kicking off on Aug. 12 at Yankee Stadium in New York City, the trio’s extension means they will perform over 90 shows across 20 countries.

Pop group Lawrence is set to open for the brothers for all of the shows in North America.

L-R) Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas of The Jonas Brothers perform onstage together.

When the Jonas Brothers say their new tour includes five albums in one night, they’re not kidding.

Over the course of almost exactly three hours on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Yankee Stadium , Joe, Nick, and Kevin played at least a chorus, but often more, of 66 (!) songs.

The setlist included every single track from albums “Jonas Brothers,” “A Little Bit Longer,” “Lines, Vines, and Trying Times,” “Happiness Begins,” and their latest “The Album,” plus recent non-album singles and, of course, “Year 3000.”

They even made room for Nick to play “Jealous” off his self-titled solo album, and “Cake by the Ocean,” by DNCE, a Joe-fronted band.

‘The Tour’ is for the OGs, as Nick said during the show — the people who have been there since the very beginning, including this reporter — and for anyone who has found their way to Jonas Brothers fandom since. That’s the beauty of a show like ‘The Tour:’ no matter what your favorite Jonas Brothers track is, you’re going to hear it at some point during the night.

(For me, personally, these were “Tonight” and “Sorry,” both from “A Little Bit Longer” and “Fly With Me.”)

Highlights of the night included the ballad “When You Look Me in the Eyes,” fan-favorite “Lovebug,” “Walls” featuring Jon Bellion, and the beginning of the “Happiness Begins” album set, which kicked off with “Comeback” and “Rollercoaster,” two songs that nod to the band’s 2013 breakup and 2019 reunion. Another fun moment came when Joe asked the crowd to start doing the wave right as Nick launched into a speech before a heartfelt ballad (the crowd obliged, of course).

The Tour doesn’t come with much spectacle — there’s the obligatory pyro during “Burnin’ Up,” and fireworks that were likely exclusive to Yankee Stadium concerts — because the music really is the main focus. All three brothers spent significant time at the very end of the catwalk interacting with each other, fans in the front rows, and the members of their large, talented backing band.

Songs from “The Album” were spread out across the night, while the other four records were played in full, chronologically. There was even an intermission between “A Little Bit Longer” and “Lines, Vines, and Trying Times” — at the opening show,  this break lasted about 20 minutes, but it also started pouring right as the intermission began.

That time may vary as ‘The Tour’ moves to mostly indoor arenas going forward.

An intermission at a concert may seem unnecessary, but this is the kind of show that never takes its foot off the gas. By the time it actually happened, it was nice to have that break to get more water (because staying hydrated when you’re screaming and dancing is very important), use the restroom, and even just sit down for a few minutes without feeling like you were missing out on the fun.

For us, the biggest surprise of the night came at the end of the “A Little Bit Longer” album set when they performed their first platinum single, “Burnin’ Up.” Although fans at the Saturday night show didn’t get to hear Nick’s iconic “red dress” flourish in the second verse, we got to see Big Rob, the brothers’ former bodyguard, come out on stage to rap his verse on the track. It got one of the loudest reactions of the night; the crowd went wild for the special guest and of course, as an OG fan myself, I was right there with them.

No matter how much time has passed, catching a new Jonas Brothers show always feels like coming home, and I’m already planning on catching ‘The Tour’s’ closing night show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in December.

Joe, 33, Nick, 30, and Kevin Jonas , 35, dedicated songs to their wives in the audience ( Sophie Turner , Priyanka Chopra and Danielle Jonas, respectively) and praised the original JoBros fans for sticking with them for more than 15 years, even after a brief hiatus in the mid-2010s.

"I'm so proud we got (ourselves) together so we could be here tonight," Nick Jonas said. "We've seen a lot of people who have been with us from the beginning."The Tour is jam-packed with more than 60 songs from their Disney Channel start to their grown-up sound.

INTERVIEW: Jonas Brothers reveal the song they fight back tears performing

Everything We Know About the Jonas Brothers 2023 Tour

And maybe a new album, too... 👀

att playoff playlist live

The Jonas Brothers surprised us all in 2019 when they announced their reunion and new song after a six year hiatus. The Jo Bros have been on two tours since the band got back together. They went on the Happiness Begins Tour from August 2019 to February 2020, and the Remember This Tour from August to December 2021. And now they're back again, besties!

"Later this year there will be a tour," Nick said.

When Kelly asked about the band's new music, he said, "Yeah. So, the album is done. We are very excited about it. And we're kind of in that planning moment. Planning the campaign, the album, the single, like, all the things."

Kelly had the sweetest response, saying, "The thing I love about your band as well is that I also love y’all separately. I loved the projects you’ve done, the solo stuff. Everything awesome. That doesn’t usually happen […] Y’all as a whole are still solid, it’s amazing."

Where Can I Buy Tickets for the Jonas Brothers Tour?

The album release and tour dates and locations have not yet been announced, but we'll be sure to keep you updated as soon as we find out more info.

When Are They Performing Next?

On Friday, February 24, the Jo Bros announced that they'll be performing on Broadway for five nights.

They made the announcement with an Insta post, captioning it "Your boys are back in town 🗽 We're coming to Broadway and playing the Marquis Theatre March 14-18!! Each night will be focused on a different album and we'll be playing all the hits. Believe us when we say you won't want to miss these shows... You'll need a Verified Fan Code to get tickets, so make sure to register now through Sunday!! jonasbrothers.com "

Registration for Verified Fans has closed, so if you didn't register and aren't ready a Jonas Brothers Verified Fan, unfortunately, it's too late to get tickets, but those who did register will receive a text this Tuesday with more info.

What Do We Know About the New Album?

While we don't know too many specific details about the upcoming album just yet, like the title or release date, the brothers just spilled some tea that may be able to hold us over for a little while.

The Jo Bros have teamed up with Jon Bellion for this album, and what we know so far is that the album is going to have a major '70s feel, with inspo from different '70s artists, like the Bee Gees. “They were a huge influence in our lives, growing up and listening to them with our father,” Kevin said about the Bee Gees in an interview with Variety

"The key to Jon’s initial pitch was bringing in influences from the ’70s, but with a really modern edge to it,” Nick revealed. “We wanted to find a way to tell stories that are universal but also ultra-personal."

Now, let's get into the boys' fav songs off this album. "I'm torn between 'Little Bird,' which is a song about parenthood that will affect people in different ways, and 'Waffle House.' It was a last-minute addition," Nick said "At first, it was a bit of a head scratcher, but the more I listened to it, the more I loved it. I think it really encapsulates a moment in time for us. Musically it taps into some of my favorites: Doobie Brothers and Bee Gees, and others from that era. It's a really, really, fun song. We can't wait to play it live."

preview for 8 REASONS THE JONAS BROTHERS ARE BIGGER THAN EVER

Joe's fav is called "Wings." "It might be the shortest song on the album, but I like it because it feels like a trailer to the rest of the body of work. Also 'Montana Sky.' There's a lot more acoustic guitar and real organic instruments that tap into a bunch of different influences, but we're aware of the fact that we're not a country act. Jon flipped it on its head — he's got a modern edge to everything he does, even if it has really classic elements."

Kevin chose a song called "Vacation eyes." "'Vacation Eyes' is based on how my relationship started with my wife. We met on vacation — and continuing that love story every single day is how I want to live my life. It makes me want to be on the beach! It’s just such a fun song about enjoying life." So cute!!

Despite him earning recognition from opening for the band, not too many people know who he is or much about him at all. Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas have all become really close friends with McGraw and even celebrated his 35th birthday on the road on October 21. He was born in Texas in 1986.

8 Who Jordan McGraw Is Related To

Perhaps the most note-worthy fact to mention about Jordan McGraw is that he is the son of TV host and author, Dr. Phil McGraw. His mom is Dr. Phil's current wife, Robin Jo Jameson. Jordan's brother, Jay, followed in his father's footsteps and went into the TV side of entertainment. He has written numerous books for young people and is the CEO of Stage 29 Productions. McGraw learned to play guitar when he was a teenager and formed his first band in 2005 called The Upside. Sadly, that band was short-lived. In 2010, he joined Organica Music Group, which led him to perform as the lead guitarist for their band, Stars in Stereo. They disbanded in 2015.

After Stars in Stereo disbanded, he became the lead singer and guitarist of the band, Hundred Handed. The group consists of McGraw, Drew Langan (drums) and Matt Black (bass guitar). They band got their name from the creature of Greek and Roman Mythology, the Hundred Handed One. They gained traction when they released the song, "Love Me Like The Weekend." The band eventually broke up and went their own ways, paving the way for McGraw to start his solo career.

His song with Sarah Hyland, "Met At A Party " was very popular at the time, after releasing his self-titled EP in November of that year and establishing himself as an artist. His musical style would be a mix of Country, Pop Punk, Pop and EDM. “I’m a nineties kid making eighties music in 2021, ” he told American Songwriter.

Now, touring again with the brothers and Ballerini on the Remember This tour, the fans seem to be more familiar with him, which makes him seem more comfortable on stage.

He really sets the bar high and sets the example. And Joe's seven months ahead, so I get the immediate advice from Joe, and then I get the bigger, broader advice from Kevin. This Is Why Jonas Brothers Fans Are So Upset After They Rescheduled The Entire European Leg Of Their Tour With Just Five Weeks' Notice

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Last August, the Jonas Brothers kicked off their Five Albums. One Night. world tour in New York City.

While the tour was organized around the band’s sixth studio album, The Album , the set list includes 67 songs from all of their studio releases since 2007.

The North American leg of the tour concluded in December, but the Jonas Brothers were back on the road in February with dates in the Philippines, Indonesia, and New Zealand.

They hit Australia last month, and next week, the band will begin their 10 Latin America dates.

Amid all of this, European fans have been patiently waiting for the Five Albums. One Night. tour to reach their countries, and excitement was growing as the first date of the European leg loomed closer, with the Jonas Brothers set to perform in Norway on May 18.

But on wednesday, the trio posted a video to social media explaining that they had rescheduled every single european date due to other “exciting projects” taking precedence..

@jonasbrothers Europe!! We’re shifting our upcoming shows to later this year. We appreciate your love and support so much. We know this is a bit inconvenient but we can’t wait to share more about what’s coming 😏 All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date and info is at Jonasbrothers.com. More details will be sent out on email. Latin America - We can’t wait to see you next week!! ❤️ ♬ original sound - Jonas Brothers

TikTok @jonasbrothers / Via tiktok.com

In the clip, Nick Jonas tells fans: “We have shifted the European dates to later this year, but that is only because we have some exciting projects that we’re very excited to share with you at a later point.”

“European fans, we love you, we can’t wait to see you, it’s been long overdue,” he continued. “And we are so excited to play these shows later this year, in the fall.”

“So make sure you hold on to your tickets,” Kevin Jonas added. “We will be having more information to come, but we cannot wait to see you.”

The group added in the video’s caption: “Europe!! We’re shifting our upcoming shows to later this year. We appreciate your love and support so much. We know this is a bit inconvenient but we can’t wait to share more about what’s coming 😏"

“All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date and info is at Jonasbrothers.com. More details will be sent out on email,” it continued. “Latin America - We can’t wait to see you next week!! ❤️”

According to the updated schedule, the Jonas Brothers’ tour will now take a four-month break after their third Mexico show on May 6.

It will pick up again in Northern Ireland on September 9. Interestingly, this particular show was initially scheduled to be the final date of the tour on June 20.

The tour will now end in Poland on October 16, a show that was originally scheduled for May 30.

Meanwhile, the Norway date has been moved from May 18 to October 6.

Needless to say, the Jonas Brothers’ decision to reschedule 22 dates to make room for other projects has rattled fans, with many revealing that they will now lose the money that they spent on travel and accommodation to attend the original dates.

It was also argued that the band’s reason for the change wasn’t valid enough to inconvenience the thousands of people who planned to attend the concerts — especially on such short notice.

One popular tweet asked : “i hate it when artists reschedule their tours and the excuse is ‘exciting projects are coming’ … could you not have planned your exciting projects around the tour that people have already spent money on tickets/hotels/travel arrangements on?”

“What a shame you care more about your exciting projects than the money your fans spent on accommodations and transports less than a month before your tour starts ! this is so so so disappointing,” somebody else wrote in response to the video.

“Sorry but this is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that the tour starts in a month and you’ve just ‘changed’ the dates for an upcoming project is not ok,” another added .

“Cancelling due to sickness/illness or family commitments I would totally understand,” one more reasoned . “But re-scheduling for a ‘project’ that you are prioritising over a tour that thousands of people have paid out for, on tickets/transport/hotels DURING A COST OF LIVING CRISIS?????? REALLY????”

“You guys DO realize people spent their hard earned money and made plans to make this work, right?” another disgruntled fan asked . “A ‘bit inconvenient’ seams [sic] like a ‘bit’ of an insult.”

Over on TikTok, a self-proclaimed “huge Jonas Brothers fan” racked up thousands of likes and hundreds of comments when she stitched the band’s original video and explained exactly why people are mad.

@stefaniemaqz #stitch with @Jonas Brothers love u guys but this is a huge loss for a lot of fans 🥺 #jonasbrothers #jonasbrothersconcert #jonasbrotherseurope ♬ original sound - stef

TikTok @JonasBrothers / @stefaniemaqz / Via tiktok.com

“This is really not OK,” the creator began. “It’s one thing to shift your dates, but this kind of announcement just doesn't sit right with me — and a lot of fans as I can see. It's just really irresponsible for them to come on a video and say that they're shifting their dates due to ‘exciting projects’ when so many people have bought tickets, plane rides, hotel — it's a lot of money.”

“When artists cancel for health reasons, understandable, things happen. And buying a ticket outside of your country, you're already taking a risk,” she added. “But this video and them just saying that they're doing it because they have exciting projects, that doesn't really make sense to a lot of fans and is not a good look.”

“They’re apparently the friend that cancels when better plans come up 🙄,” one person commented on the TikTok. Another agreed: “Like schedule better boys lol they’re essentially saying ‘we decided we’d rather do something else but we’ll circle back to you guys.’”

The Jonas Brothers have not publicly commented on the backlash, and BuzzFeed has contacted their rep for comment.

The Jonas Brothers Are Facing Major Backlash for Rescheduling Tour Dates in Favor of a "Project"

Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas of Jonas Brothers perform onstage during the 2019 Billboard Music Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 01, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada

Jonas Brothers fans are calling "S.O.S." over the band's decision to reschedule European tour dates for reasons that seem extremely vague.

Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas took to social media to announce the move, writing, "Europe!! We’re shifting our upcoming shows to later this year. We appreciate your love and support so much. We know this is a bit inconvenient but we can’t wait to share more about what’s coming

"All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date and info is at http://Jonasbrothers.com. More details will be sent out on email. "Latin America - We can’t wait to see you next week!!"

In the accompanying video, Nick said, "We have shifted the European dates to later this year, but that is only because we have some exciting projects that we're very excited to share with you at a later point. European fans, we love you, we can't wait to see you, it's been long overdue, and we're so excited to play these shows later this year in the fall."

The rescheduled shows were originally slated for just a month from now.

Fans were extremely unhappy with the news—especially considering the explanation seemed flimsy—with many pointing out that they had already booked travel and accommodation for the shows.

"So plane tickets and hotels are free ? I'm really pissed off," commented one person.

"Cancelling due to sickness/illness or family commitments I would totally understand," remarked another. "But re-scheduling for a 'project' that you are prioritising over a tour that thousands of people have paid out for, on tickets/transport/hotels DURING A COST OF LIVING CRISIS?????? REALLY????"

"Read the room please how can you all look so happy when rescheduling literally a month before the tour was meant to start?" asked someone else. "The short notice is gonna be hell for us to get refund for our flights and accommodations + getting time off of work. This ain’t nice"

A post shared by Jonas Brothers A photo posted by jonasbrothers on

On the band's website , a note reads, "Due to scheduling conflicts, the Jonas Brothers shows have been rescheduled. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date, and additional tickets are on sale now. More information will be sent directly to ticket holders via email."

The three brothers have already played shows in the Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia, and are headed to Brazil on April 16.

While fans are rightly frustrated that the European dates have been rescheduled for such fuzzy reasons, the Jonases have previously addressed the importance of protecting their mental health when touring.

Joe recently told the Associated Press , "We’ve been burnt out before and then you’re like, 'I still got 20 more shows on this tour.' So we all have our own perspective ways of going about that, and we just make sure that that’s prioritized and also that we think the three of us are communicating as best as we can."

All About Dr. Phil's Sons, Jay and Jordan McGraw

Dr. Phil and his wife, Robin McGraw, share two children

Dr. Phil McGraw dishes out plenty of sage advice, and when it comes to parenting, he's got real-life experience after raising his sons, Jay and Jordan McGraw.

The TV personality and his wife, author and podcast host Robin McGraw, married in 1976 and have since welcomed two children together.

Dr. Phil's sons followed closely in his footsteps — especially Jay. The older McGraw son works in production while Jordan is a singer. While neither share advice on TV like their dad, both have received wise words from the psychologist.

When Jordan and wife Morgan Stewart were worried about leaving daughter Row for their first post-baby date, Dr. Phil offered them guidance.

"I don't care how much you love your kid. You gotta take a break and recharge your batteries," he recalled to the Today show. "It's important for the child, too, because they learn, 'Hey, Mom and Dad went away, but they came back!' That's how you get away from separation anxiety."

Here's everything to know about Dr. Phil's sons, Jay and Jordan McGraw.

Jay McGraw, 44

Dr. Phil and Robin's eldest son, Jay McGraw, was born on Sept. 12, 1979.

He holds a bachelor of science in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from Southern Methodist University, according to his LinkedIn .

Jay's professional career has kept him close to his dad. The father-son duo co-founded Stage 29 Productions, of which Jay is CEO and president.

Like his father, Jay has appeared on TV: He hosted Fox's Renovate My Family in 2004, and behind the camera, he created and executive produced The Doctors , plus a number of Dr. Phil specials, per Los Angeles Times .

Several years later, he launched RumorFix.com in 2010, which described itself as "an anti-tabloid entertainment website that sets the record straight on celebrity rumors." The now-defunct platform was later acquired by Hutch Media in 2014, according to a press release .

In addition, he is a New York Times best-selling author of self-help books for teenagers, including Life Strategies for Teens and Closing the Gap: A Strategy for Bringing Parents and Teens Together .

Another special moment happened in front of the cameras: Jay met his wife, former Playboy Playmate Erica Dahm, while hosting Renovate My Family . Erica and her two identical triplet sisters, who are also former Playboy Playmates, served as construction experts on the show.

Jay and Erica wed on Aug. 12, 2006, in an intimate ceremony at his parents' home in Beverly Hills, California. Dr. Phil served as the best man, and their vows were followed by a reception for 400 guests at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Since tying the knot, the couple have welcomed daughter Avery Elizabeth in 2010 and son London Phillip in 2011. The elder Phil son enjoys documenting his family's adventures on Instagram .

Jordan McGraw, 37

Dr. Phil and Robin's younger son, Jordan McGraw, was born on Oct. 21, 1986.

Like his famous father, Jordan chose a career in the spotlight. From 2011 to 2015, he was in the alt-rock band Stars in Stereo before launching his solo career. He collaborated with Sarah Hyland on "Met at a Party" and toured with his friends , the Jonas Brothers , in 2019.

As for what it's like being raised by a celebrity psychologist, Jordan told PEOPLE Now that " his tricks don't work " on him.

Apart from his work, Jordan is married to TV host and former reality star Morgan Stewart. The two got engaged on July 4, 2020, and announced they were expecting a girl one month later.

"Been working on my dad jokes for years," the singer quipped on Instagram .

The duo — who dated briefly a decade prior — tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony on Dec. 9, 2020. (Morgan was previously wed to her Rich Kids of Beverly Hills costar Brendan Fitzpatrick for three years.)

Jordan and Morgan are now parents to two children who were born almost exactly one year apart: daughter Row Renggli in 2021, and son Grey Oliver in 2022.

According to the couple, they are content with being a family of four. When Morgan returned to Nightly Pop co-hosting duties in June 2022, she shared that Jordan had a vasectomy .

Fast forward, the singer and TV personality are enjoying parenthood, including throwing birthday parties to celebrate their kids.

In Transit: Notes from the Underground

Jun 06 2018.

Spend some time in one of Moscow’s finest museums.

Subterranean commuting might not be anyone’s idea of a good time, but even in a city packing the war-games treasures and priceless bejeweled eggs of the Kremlin Armoury and the colossal Soviet pavilions of the VDNKh , the Metro holds up as one of Moscow’s finest museums. Just avoid rush hour.

The Metro is stunning and provides an unrivaled insight into the city’s psyche, past and present, but it also happens to be the best way to get around. Moscow has Uber, and the Russian version called Yandex Taxi , but also some nasty traffic. Metro trains come around every 90 seconds or so, at a more than 99 percent on-time rate. It’s also reasonably priced, with a single ride at 55 cents (and cheaper in bulk). From history to tickets to rules — official and not — here’s what you need to know to get started.

A Brief Introduction Buying Tickets Know Before You Go (Down) Rules An Easy Tour

A Brief Introduction

Moscow’s Metro was a long time coming. Plans for rapid transit to relieve the city’s beleaguered tram system date back to the Imperial era, but a couple of wars and a revolution held up its development. Stalin revived it as part of his grand plan to modernize the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 30s. The first lines and tunnels were constructed with help from engineers from the London Underground, although Stalin’s secret police decided that they had learned too much about Moscow’s layout and had them arrested on espionage charges and deported.

The beauty of its stations (if not its trains) is well-documented, and certainly no accident. In its illustrious first phases and particularly after the Second World War, the greatest architects of Soviet era were recruited to create gleaming temples celebrating the Revolution, the USSR, and the war triumph. No two stations are exactly alike, and each of the classic showpieces has a theme. There are world-famous shrines to Futurist architecture, a celebration of electricity, tributes to individuals and regions of the former Soviet Union. Each marble slab, mosaic tile, or light fixture was placed with intent, all in service to a station’s aesthetic; each element, f rom the smallest brass ear of corn to a large blood-spattered sword on a World War II mural, is an essential part of the whole.

jonas brothers tour whos opening

The Metro is a monument to the Soviet propaganda project it was intended to be when it opened in 1935 with the slogan “Building a Palace for the People”. It brought the grand interiors of Imperial Russia to ordinary Muscovites, celebrated the Soviet Union’s past achievements while promising its citizens a bright Soviet future, and of course, it was a show-piece for the world to witness the might and sophistication of life in the Soviet Union.

It may be a museum, but it’s no relic. U p to nine million people use it daily, more than the London Underground and New York Subway combined. (Along with, at one time, about 20 stray dogs that learned to commute on the Metro.)

In its 80+ year history, the Metro has expanded in phases and fits and starts, in step with the fortunes of Moscow and Russia. Now, partly in preparation for the World Cup 2018, it’s also modernizing. New trains allow passengers to walk the entire length of the train without having to change carriages. The system is becoming more visitor-friendly. (There are helpful stickers on the floor marking out the best selfie spots .) But there’s a price to modernity: it’s phasing out one of its beloved institutions, the escalator attendants. Often they are middle-aged or elderly women—“ escalator grandmas ” in news accounts—who have held the post for decades, sitting in their tiny kiosks, scolding commuters for bad escalator etiquette or even bad posture, or telling jokes . They are slated to be replaced, when at all, by members of the escalator maintenance staff.

For all its achievements, the Metro lags behind Moscow’s above-ground growth, as Russia’s capital sprawls ever outwards, generating some of the world’s worst traffic jams . But since 2011, the Metro has been in the middle of an ambitious and long-overdue enlargement; 60 new stations are opening by 2020. If all goes to plan, the 2011-2020 period will have brought 125 miles of new tracks and over 100 new stations — a 40 percent increase — the fastest and largest expansion phase in any period in the Metro’s history.

Buying Tickets

  • Ticket machines have a button to switch to English.
  • You can buy specific numbers of rides: 1, 2, 5, 11, 20, or 60. Hold up fingers to show how many rides you want to buy.
  • There is also a 90-minute ticket , which gets you 1 trip on the metro plus an unlimited number of transfers on other transport (bus, tram, etc) within 90 minutes.
  • Or, you can buy day tickets with unlimited rides: one day (218₽/ US$4), three days (415₽/US$7) or seven days (830₽/US$15). Check the rates here to stay up-to-date.
  • If you’re going to be using the Metro regularly over a few days, it’s worth getting a Troika card , a contactless, refillable card you can use on all public transport. Using the Metro is cheaper with one of these: a single ride is 36₽, not 55₽. Buy them and refill them in the Metro stations, and they’re valid for 5 years, so you can keep it for next time. Or, if you have a lot of cash left on it when you leave, you can get it refunded at the Metro Service Centers at Ulitsa 1905 Goda, 25 or at Staraya Basmannaya 20, Building 1.
  • You can also buy silicone bracelets and keychains with built-in transport chips that you can use as a Troika card. (A Moscow Metro Fitbit!) So far, you can only get these at the Pushkinskaya metro station Live Helpdesk and souvenir shops in the Mayakovskaya and Trubnaya metro stations. The fare is the same as for the Troika card.
  • You can also use Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Rules, spoken and unspoken

No smoking, no drinking, no filming, no littering. Photography is allowed, although it used to be banned.

Stand to the right on the escalator. Break this rule and you risk the wrath of the legendary escalator attendants. (No shenanigans on the escalators in general.)

Get out of the way. Find an empty corner to hide in when you get off a train and need to stare at your phone. Watch out getting out of the train in general; when your train doors open, people tend to appear from nowhere or from behind ornate marble columns, walking full-speed.

Always offer your seat to elderly ladies (what are you, a monster?).

An Easy Tour

This is no Metro Marathon ( 199 stations in 20 hours ). It’s an easy tour, taking in most—though not all—of the notable stations, the bulk of it going clockwise along the Circle line, with a couple of short detours. These stations are within minutes of one another, and the whole tour should take about 1-2 hours.

Start at Mayakovskaya Metro station , at the corner of Tverskaya and Garden Ring,  Triumfalnaya Square, Moskva, Russia, 125047.

1. Mayakovskaya.  Named for Russian Futurist Movement poet Vladimir Mayakovsky and an attempt to bring to life the future he imagined in his poems. (The Futurist Movement, natch, was all about a rejecting the past and celebrating all things speed, industry, modern machines, youth, modernity.) The result: an Art Deco masterpiece that won the National Grand Prix for architecture at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. It’s all smooth, rounded shine and light, and gentle arches supported by columns of dark pink marble and stainless aircraft steel. Each of its 34 ceiling niches has a mosaic. During World War II, the station was used as an air-raid shelter and, at one point, a bunker for Stalin. He gave a subdued but rousing speech here in Nov. 6, 1941 as the Nazis bombed the city above.

Take the 3/Green line one station to:

2. Belorusskaya. Opened in 1952, named after the connected Belarussky Rail Terminal, which runs trains between Moscow and Belarus. This is a light marble affair with a white, cake-like ceiling, lined with Belorussian patterns and 12 Florentine ceiling mosaics depicting life in Belarussia when it was built.

Transfer onto the 1/Brown line. Then, one stop (clockwise) t o:

3. Novoslobodskaya.  This station was designed around the stained-glass panels, which were made in Latvia, because Alexey Dushkin, the Soviet starchitect who dreamed it up (and also designed Mayakovskaya station) couldn’t find the glass and craft locally. The stained glass is the same used for Riga’s Cathedral, and the panels feature plants, flowers, members of the Soviet intelligentsia (musician, artist, architect) and geometric shapes.

jonas brothers tour whos opening

Go two stops east on the 1/Circle line to:

4. Komsomolskaya. Named after the Komsomol, or the Young Communist League, this might just be peak Stalin Metro style. Underneath the hub for three regional railways, it was intended to be a grand gateway to Moscow and is today its busiest station. It has chandeliers; a yellow ceiling with Baroque embellishments; and in the main hall, a colossal red star overlaid on golden, shimmering tiles. Designer Alexey Shchusev designed it as an homage to the speech Stalin gave at Red Square on Nov. 7, 1941, in which he invoked Russia’s illustrious military leaders as a pep talk to Soviet soldiers through the first catastrophic year of the war.   The station’s eight large mosaics are of the leaders referenced in the speech, such as Alexander Nevsky, a 13th-century prince and military commander who bested German and Swedish invading armies.

jonas brothers tour whos opening

One more stop clockwise to Kurskaya station,  and change onto the 3/Blue  line, and go one stop to:

5. Baumanskaya.   Opened in 1944. Named for the Bolshevik Revolutionary Nikolai Bauman , whose monument and namesake district are aboveground here. Though he seemed like a nasty piece of work (he apparently once publicly mocked a woman he had impregnated, who later hung herself), he became a Revolutionary martyr when he was killed in 1905 in a skirmish with a monarchist, who hit him on the head with part of a steel pipe. The station is in Art Deco style with atmospherically dim lighting, and a series of bronze sculptures of soldiers and homefront heroes during the War. At one end, there is a large mosaic portrait of Lenin.

jonas brothers tour whos opening

Stay on that train direction one more east to:

6. Elektrozavodskaya. As you may have guessed from the name, this station is the Metro’s tribute to all thing electrical, built in 1944 and named after a nearby lightbulb factory. It has marble bas-relief sculptures of important figures in electrical engineering, and others illustrating the Soviet Union’s war-time struggles at home. The ceiling’s recurring rows of circular lamps give the station’s main tunnel a comforting glow, and a pleasing visual effect.

jonas brothers tour whos opening

Double back two stops to Kurskaya station , and change back to the 1/Circle line. Sit tight for six stations to:

7. Kiyevskaya. This was the last station on the Circle line to be built, in 1954, completed under Nikita Khrushchev’ s guidance, as a tribute to his homeland, Ukraine. Its three large station halls feature images celebrating Ukraine’s contributions to the Soviet Union and Russo-Ukrainian unity, depicting musicians, textile-working, soldiers, farmers. (One hall has frescoes, one mosaics, and the third murals.) Shortly after it was completed, Khrushchev condemned the architectural excesses and unnecessary luxury of the Stalin era, which ushered in an epoch of more austere Metro stations. According to the legend at least, he timed the policy in part to ensure no Metro station built after could outshine Kiyevskaya.

jonas brothers tour whos opening

Change to the 3/Blue line and go one stop west.

8. Park Pobedy. This is the deepest station on the Metro, with one of the world’s longest escalators, at 413 feet. If you stand still, the escalator ride to the surface takes about three minutes .) Opened in 2003 at Victory Park, the station celebrates two of Russia’s great military victories. Each end has a mural by Georgian artist Zurab Tsereteli, who also designed the “ Good Defeats Evil ” statue at the UN headquarters in New York. One mural depicts the Russian generals’ victory over the French in 1812 and the other, the German surrender of 1945. The latter is particularly striking; equal parts dramatic, triumphant, and gruesome. To the side, Red Army soldiers trample Nazi flags, and if you look closely there’s some blood spatter among the detail. Still, the biggest impressions here are the marble shine of the chessboard floor pattern and the pleasingly geometric effect if you view from one end to the other.

jonas brothers tour whos opening

Keep going one more stop west to:

9. Slavyansky Bulvar.  One of the Metro’s youngest stations, it opened in 2008. With far higher ceilings than many other stations—which tend to have covered central tunnels on the platforms—it has an “open-air” feel (or as close to it as you can get, one hundred feet under). It’s an homage to French architect Hector Guimard, he of the Art Nouveau entrances for the Paris M é tro, and that’s precisely what this looks like: A Moscow homage to the Paris M é tro, with an additional forest theme. A Cyrillic twist on Guimard’s Metro-style lettering over the benches, furnished with t rees and branch motifs, including creeping vines as towering lamp-posts.

jonas brothers tour whos opening

Stay on the 3/Blue line and double back four stations to:

10. Arbatskaya. Its first iteration, Arbatskaya-Smolenskaya station, was damaged by German bombs in 1941. It was rebuilt in 1953, and designed to double as a bomb shelter in the event of nuclear war, although unusually for stations built in the post-war phase, this one doesn’t have a war theme. It may also be one of the system’s most elegant: Baroque, but toned down a little, with red marble floors and white ceilings with gilded bronze c handeliers.

Jump back on the 3/Blue line  in the same direction and take it one more stop:

11. Ploshchad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). Opened in 1938, and serving Red Square and the Kremlin . Its renowned central hall has marble columns flanked by 76 bronze statues of Soviet heroes: soldiers, students, farmers, athletes, writers, parents. Some of these statues’ appendages have a yellow sheen from decades of Moscow’s commuters rubbing them for good luck. Among the most popular for a superstitious walk-by rub: the snout of a frontier guard’s dog, a soldier’s gun (where the touch of millions of human hands have tapered the gun barrel into a fine, pointy blade), a baby’s foot, and a woman’s knee. (A brass rooster also sports the telltale gold sheen, though I am told that rubbing the rooster is thought to bring bad luck. )

Now take the escalator up, and get some fresh air.

Moscow: City Sightseeing by Car/Bus

Visiting a new city is akin to going on a first date, it is something you will never forget. Many people imagine Moscow as just a bunch of sporadic landmarks: Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and GUM. There is so much more to this wonderful city than that and even though we only have a few hours, we will do all we can to show you everything we know and love about our capital in one fell swoop. We will take you on a journey through the ages, from centuries ago, right up to the modern day, soaking in the sights of this vast and bustling metropolis. Bright, luxurious and both ancient and modern at the same time, Moscow invites you on a date you’ll never forget!

On our sightseeing bus tour of the city, you will see:

  • The wonderfully historic city centre and its unique museums, magnificent cathedrals, the exquisite Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and of course, the famous towering red brick walls of the Kremlin, The charming beauty of the Alexander Garden awaits the capital's guests - a lush green oasis in the midst of the glass and concrete clad metropolis, basking in the etherial aura emanating from the whitewashed stone walls of the restored Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the world- renowned fairytale onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral and other impressive monumental buildings such as the library built in Lenin's honour - the Russian State Library - and the State Duma.
  • The Lubyanka KGB headquarters is notorious to members of older generations and although nowadays, the face of the secret police has changed dramatically, the looming enigmatic building on the waterfront maintains its aura of mystery, shrouded in a variety of murky rumours and dark myths. Then, there’s another of Moscow's main attractions - the marvellous Bolshoi Theatre, yew simply cant leave Moscow without taking in its breathtaking architecture. Engrained in the fabric of Russia's cultural heritage, virtuoso performers such as prima ballerina Galina Ulanova, opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and pianist, composer and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff once stood centre stage of this vaunted institution.
  • The memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill was constructed in the glory and honour of our heroes who defended our nation in the many crucial battles of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a place that embodies a particularly acute and inextricable link between older ancf younger generations. Moving on to the Moscow International Business Centre, not dubbed ‘Moscow City' for nothing, a true glimpse of the future in the present. This incredible, rather jaw-dropping project in the capital has shown that Moscow has come to accept the age of the skyscraper. Finally, the stunning views from the observation deck at Sparrow Hills will leave professional and amateur photographers alike itching to capture them. How could one resist?

The most beautiful of all the world's cities - lady Moscow invites you out on a date!

Red Square Moscow

Even more emblematic than Moscow’s Red Square! Built in the middle of the 16th century under the orders of Tsar Ivan Le Terrible, this cathedral is one of the most beautiful monuments of Orthodox art, and definitely one of the unmissable places in Moscow. Visiting Saint-Basil’s Cathedral inside is one of the most beautiful things to do in Moscow!

Saint Basil's Cathedral

Take a walk in Zariadye park: one of the coolest things to do in Moscow after visiting Red Square

Zaryadie Park is just a 10-minute walk from St. Basil’s Cathedral, so it’s easy to include in your itinerary if you’re going to visit Moscow in 2 days. From its heights, you can see the red walls of the Kremlin. But, the most impressive point of view is the platform which overlooks the Moskva river. A must see! And clearly one of the coolest things to do in Moscow!

  • Open 24 hours a day
  • Good to know! Park Zaryadye is also a place to visit in Moscow in winter. Find out more here: What to do in Moscow in winter?

In addition, several pedestrian or one-way streets are located north of the theater. It is therefore very pleasant to find them to leave the main axes of the megalopolis.

Visit the Moscow Kremlin

Visit Kremlin is on top of things to do in Moscow. A place of power for centuries, the Kremlin then shows us a whole different image when viewed from the inside. If you want to visit Moscow in 2 days, the Kremlin is certainly one of the must-see places in Moscow.

  • Opening hours : Daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thursday.
  • See our blog post about visiting the Moscow Kremlin

Moscow Kremlin: skip-the-line tickets and 8 things not to miss

Visit the Cathedral of Christ the Savior

This impressive Moscow Cathedral is the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is a must see if you visit Moscow in 2 days and clearly one of the things to do in Moscow. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior was first built in 1883 in memory of Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s Grand Army. Then in 1931 Stalin ordered its destruction. It was then rebuilt again (identically) only in 2000.

  • Where? Ulitsa Volkhonka 15. At the foot of the Kropotkinskaya metro station.
  • Opening hours . Daily: 10: 00-17: 00, except Monday: 13: 00-17: 00
  • Free entry (some closing restrictions, for example a short)

Good to know! In orthodox religious places, one must avoid excessively uncovered clothing. Women should cover their heads. After visiting the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, you can explore Bolotny Island and Gorky Park. This is one of the routes our guide to Moscow.

Cathedral of Christ the Savior

The old Krasny Oktyabr factory: one of the coolest things to do in Moscow

If you cross the Moskva River by a pedestrian bridge which is located just in front of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the city and at the same time you can discover Balchug Island. Furthermore, if you want to visit Moscow in 2 days, you can include this island in your itinerary between the cathedral and Gorky park. Here is the old confectionery factory Krasny Oktyabr, which has gradually turned into a fashionable micro-district. There are then some elements of street art, cafes and restaurants and some Moscow bohemian side. At the end of the island you can see a gigantic 98-meter-high monument dedicated to the Russian reforming tsar Pierre The Great.

Good to know! You can find on this island are the trendiest nightclubs in Moscow. On weekends, there are taxi caps after midnight so there are so many people. On the other hand, if you go there in winter and during the day, the island is quite empty and less interesting to see.

Gorky Park is one of the TOP places to visit in Moscow, because it allows you to better understand the life of the locals and their rhythm. In fact, it’s a huge entertainment park. For example, in winter there is a giant ice rink and in summer – free dance or yoga lessons, sandy beaches for playing volleyball, an outdoor cinema. So, like the locals, have a Stakantchik (ice cream or cooked corn), and enjoy the atmosphere of the place: that’s one of the interesting things to do in Moscow to discover the city.

  • Where? Krymsky Val 9. 20 minutes’ walk from Krasny Oktyabr, along the quays.

Sparrow Hill and Moscow State University

The Sparrow Hill, Vorobiovy Gori in Russian, is the highest point in Moscow. It is rather known to Russians, but less to travelers. A nice view on Moscow opens from the hill, and in particular on the Luzhniki Stadium. In addition, on the hill itself is the Moscow State University: an impressive skyscraper from the Soviet era.

  • How to get there? By bus T7 (35 min) from Oktyaborskaya station, near Gorki Park. By metro (Vorobiovy Gorki station) + climb the hill on foot. On foot along the Moskva along the Gorky Park (1h30) + climb in funiculars.

Good to know! It is possible to cross the Moskva river by funicular. We actually tested it and it was pretty cool! That is one of our favorite things to do in Moscow!

What to do in Moscow

What to do in Moscow in 3 days?

If you are going to visit Moscow in 3 days, it would be interesting to dive into the Soviet era which strongly marked the country and the city. After the Bolshevik Revolution, the capital was transferred from Saint Petersburg to Moscow, in order to mark the change of power. Moscow then became the world showcase for communist ideology. Here are the best things to do in Moscow for 3-day-trip!

VDNKh, visit Moscow of the Soviet era

VDNKh is a large exhibition center in the north of Moscow, where there are still several striking witnesses of the USSR. The most interesting are the Museum of Cosmonauts and the Statue of the Worker and the Kolkhozian , which will certainly impress you with its size!

Visit

GULAG History Museum

The explanations of the museum are very well done. We really have the feeling of going back in time. If you are going to visit Moscow in 3 days and you are interested in history and this subject in particular, I recommend this museum. Visit the GULAG History Museum is one of the most interesting things to do in Moscow.

Discover the Patriarche Pounds district

It’s a nice neighborhood in Moscow where you can come across rather affluent locals, but not necessarily very bling-bling. Take a walk in this area is really a cool thing to do in Moscow! In addition, the Ponds of Patriarch is one of the places of Bulgakov’s novel “Master and Margarita”. As this is an interesting area to see, we have included it in a walking tour of Moscow. The route ends at the Moscow Kremlin, which is very convenient, because you will be able to visit Moscow in 3 days by optimizing your trips.

What to visit in Moscow in 4 days: TOP things to do in Moscow in 4 days

If you want to visit Moscow in 3 days, you will already see a lot of things. On the other hand, if you stay one more day, you have plenty to do! The Novodevichy Convent, the Tchistie Proudy district and the Izmaylovo Kremlin are very good candidates for you, if you are going to visit Moscow in 4 days.

Visiting Novodevichy Convent in Moscow

The Novodevichy Convent is one of the most brilliant examples of Russian architecture, according to UNESCO. This beautiful complex was built in 1524 and today consists of the convent, but also of a cemetery whose status could be compared to that of Père-Lachaise in Paris. Visiting Novodevichy Convent is one of the great things to do in Moscow, if you want to go a little bit outside of the center!

What to see in Moscow in one day

Discovering Tchistye Proudy district

It’s one of the most popular areas of Moscow, with many cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. It is therefore a place to discover if you want to visit Moscow in 4 days. It is just as pleasant for a stroll as for the discovery of local life. For example, in winter the pond turns into an ice rink.

Visiting the Izmaylovo Kremlin, one of the coolest things to do in Moscow!

The Izmaylovo Kremlin is more of a tourist than a historic place. On the other hand, it is a pretty impressive place to discover, especially on weekends. Inside the Kremlin, there is a flea market where you can find a little bit of everything, but mostly good souvenirs to bring from Moscow. For example, chapka, traditional Russian scarves or matryoshka (Russian dolls). Add the Kremlin and the Izmaïlovo market to your itinerary if you are going to visit Moscow in 4 days, because it is a nice and very colorful place! Visiting the Izmailovo Kremlin is one of the things to do in Moscow, if you want to put colors in your Instagram account! 😉

Things to do Moscow blog

In 4 days, we will have the opportunity to see several Moscow: Classic Moscow, Moscow of old Russia, Soviet Moscow and a little bit of the new Moscow. So what to visit in Moscow on the 5th day of travel?

What to visit in Moscow in 5 days?

Art lovers will be delighted to discover the Tretyakov Gallery and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, while others will prefer to stroll along Arbat Street, see the buildings of Moskva-City or visit Bunker 42.

Admiring Russian art at Tretyakov Gallery

Founded in 1856 by an industrialist and great lover of art, the gallery has grown over the decades, and then bequeathed to the state. Today the collection includes more than 140,000 pieces, 15,000 of which are paintings. Visiting the Tretyakov Gallery is one of the things to do in Moscow if you want to discover Russian art!

  • Where? Pereoulok Lavrouchinski 10. A 5-minute walk from Tretiakovskaya station
  • Opening hours. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Closed on Mondays.
  • Entry tickets. 500 RUB.

Museum to see

Visiting the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts

The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts presents the treasures of ancient Egypt, the paintings of Rembrandt and Cézanne, a fine collection of Impressionism.

  • Where? Ulitsa Volkhonka 12
  • Opening hours. Daily: 10: 00-20: 00, except Thursday: 11: 00-21: 00. Closed on Mondays. The boxes close an hour before closing.
  • Entry tickets. The prices vary according to the collections from 300 to 750 RUB.

Walking on Arbat Street

All Russians know Rue Arbat. So, walking on Arbat street is one of the things to do in Moscow. However, after the years, little by little it became very touristy. This is a pedestrian street only. There are souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes there, but it is no longer the most authentic neighborhood in the city.

Seeing the buildings of Moskva-City (Moscow City)

Moskva-City is Moscow’s business center, much like Paris’s Defense district. The skyscrapers of Moskva-City are among the tallest in Europe: 373 meters high! Very nice place to see at dusk.

Good to know! You can admire a nice view of Moscow City from the docks of Tarasa Shevchenko. It’s especially beautiful in the evening with all the lights on.

Bunker 42, one of the most unusual things to do in Moscow

Bunker 42 is a secret military complex which was to be used by the Soviets in the event of a nuclear attack: a space of 7000 m² 65 meters underground!

  • Where? 5 Kotelnitcheski Lane, 11.
  • Prices. 2200 RUB per person
  • Opening hours. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Restaurant inside. Original, but rather a tourist trap.

What to visit in Moscow in 6 days or more?

There are still so many places to see, because Moscow is a big megalopolis and there is always something exciting to do there. For example: the ancient Kolomenskoye village or the WINZAVOD contemporary art center .

If you are interested in history and want to see Russian cities on a rather “human scale”, it would certainly be interesting for you to discover the cities of the Golden Ring . For example, it is very easy to get to Sergey Posad from Moscow (less than 2 hours in train). Visiting the Golden Ring is one of the best things to do in Moscow if you are staying more than a 5-6 days.

There are still plenty of places to see in Moscow, however I did my best to list here the best things to do in Moscow, what to see in Moscow in one day, but also in 2, 3, 4 or 5 days in Moscow!
