Tripadvisor 539 reviews, great to do once..

The scenery was beautiful and Santa was great. Wish I would have gone at night rather than during the day because it is all lit up at night. Tour guide was great-helped us find a reindeer hide to purchase which was cheaper there than at our hotel... The reindeer sled ride was great.

Nous recommandons NA à 100% !! 👍💯

Excellent service

Our guide is a nice guy, he explained everything clearly as well, excellent choice to visiting the rauna zoo

Absolutely worth it!

I visited the zoo on a warm (-4°C), sunny monday and was lucky to see most of the Arctic animals. The zoo is an animal sanctuary too, so they are very well taken care of. Special thanks to Pedro, our very friendly guide and good driver! Good selection at the buffet! There's also a Karl Fazer chocolate and candy shop with good prices.

A Trip of a Lifetime to the Lapland !

I took 5 different Trips from Nordic Adventures and had a Memorable Visits to the Husky Park, Reindeer Park and the 3 days Northern Lights Hunt. The Tour guide Alex was very friendly and took care well.I was solo traveller but being in a small group i made lot of friends including Alex itself. Though the Aurora chances was very low i could still capture some shots using my camera. Also loved the camp fires and eating sausages in the extreme cold weather and off course the berry juice. I highly recommend the Tours from Nordic Adventures for a small and personalised experiences in Lapland. Thank you Alex and Alex (2 ) ..Ha ha !

Great day with Nordic Adventures

I really enjoyed the Ranua Zoo tour with Alex who is friendly and enthusiastic. He is keen to introduce the animals to us and even set a fire to warm us and taught us how to cut wood, it was fun! We were able to see brown bear, polar bears owl among others. Thumb up to Alex!

An Essential Authentic Experience

My wife and I did the wood-fired sauna experience during our honeymoon to Finland last January. And out of a country full of amazing things to do, this very well might've been our favorite. As far as cultural experiences go, this is a must-do in our books. We went to a lot of saunas during our stay, and they were all quite nice, but in order to get a true Scandinavian experience you need a wood-fired sauna and an ice-cold, private lake to jump into. We felt like locals even though we were thousands of miles from home. The hospitality that Alex and his wife provide is fantastic. This left such an impression on my wife, that she's planning to build our own wood-fired sauna on our property. That, I would say, is a 5-star experience.

Nordic adventures Aurora hunting trip

Nordic adventures hosted a very nice Aurora hunting trip. Will go for it again if we get a chance again.

Wonderful experience

We booked the full day adventure to the Ranua Zoo and Lappish evening in the wilderness with sauna, ice swimming and dinner. We enjoyed every minute from being picked up and driven out of town to the Zoo and spending the morning looking at the animals, having lunch and then back to our accommodation for some relaxation before being picked up again and being taken to a cute little cottage in the forest where we enjoyed a sauna and a dip into the ice lake. The lake was breathtaking (literally), but an amazing experience. Alex and his wife then prepared a beautiful dinner that we ate in the cosy cottage. They were wonderful hosts and lovely people. I would highly recommend this company and our time spent with them has been one of the highlights of our trip.

Best of Lapland

Nordic Adventures is a family run business with all the very best things you might associate with a family business: hard work, attention to detail, and magical touches that create an experience of a lifetime. The sauna made us feel like we were a part of an ancient tradition, and prepared us well for an exhilarating dip in Arctic water. This was followed by an amazingly delicious salmon dinner in a warm and elegant cottage. We had incredibly knowledgeable and kind young hosts who gave us a sense of the rich past and present of Northern Finland. They went extra miles to make sure we had the best time. This was our last night of an eventful trip and we can say with confidence that this adventure was the best of Lapland.

Decorative street lights and a snowy hut in the Arctic Circle

Embrace Adventure on the Edge of the Arctic

Welcome to Rovaniemi – the home of Santa Claus and the city where dreams come true! Rovaniemi is the Capital of Finnish Lapland and a gateway to your adventures.

Photo: Visit Rovaniemi, Visit Finland

Rovaniemi has it all — from the northern lights dancing in the sky on a winter evening to the Midnight Sun glowing all night long throughout the summer months; cold, crisp, snow-white days to lush green, long, sunny days; activities for those who are looking for adventure and activities for those who are looking to relax. For those seeking a unique experience, a once-in-a-lifetime activity and the opportunity to witness the magic of nature at its most beautiful; we have something for you in Rovaniemi. This is a international vivid city with soul of open-hearted village.

Choose the best way for you to hunt the northern lights

Imagine standing on a silent, vast frozen lake just north of the Arctic Circle. The shadow of the trees of the shoreline in the distance in front of you, the white snow-covered ice stretching as far as the eye can see and the ink black sky above you dotted with more stars than one could ever imagine. Out of nowhere the green haze of light begins to show itself, growing in stature as the evening progresses and slowly starting its dancing of shimmering green skipping across the darkness of space. If you are lucky, colours of pink, blue and violet may even appear.

In Finland it was believed that the lights were caused by the firefox who ran so quickly across the snow that his tail caused sparks to fly into the night sky creating the northern lights. The colours most often associated with the northern lights are pink, green, yellow, blue, violet, and occasionally orange and white.

Santa Claus and Santa Claus Village

Eight kilometres north from Rovaniemi there is a village named after this noble old man: Santa Claus Village, which is a must see when visiting Lapland! In the center of the Village there is Santa’s Office where he meets guests for a quick chat every day of the year absolutely free of charge. As a perfect memory of your visit, you can purchase the photographs of yourself and Santa Claus for a modest fee.

If you wish to have a longer chat with Santa, check out our Santa Claus tours. The Village is also conveniently located on the Arctic Circle, which is marked through the Village with a white line on the ground and a line of lights above you. You can mark this occasion of crossing the Arctic Circle by getting the Certificate for yourself. After this the next stop is Santa’s Post Office. From here you can order a personal letter from Santa, to be delivered just before Christmas to your loved ones or send a postcard with a unique stamp from the Arctic Circle. In Santa Claus Village you can visit husky and reindeer camps, souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants. Our office is located in the Village as well.

Arctic Animals

If you are looking for more interaction with animals, check our reindeer and husky tours. These informative trips offer a deeper insight into the lives of these animals and the culture surrounding them; you will have the chance to experience exciting sleigh rides too! Husky and reindeers tours

Ranua Wildlife park is the home of over 50 arctic animal species For a chance to view some of them you need to get out to the forests and hiking areas. For those animals which are not normally found in the Arctic or are difficult to find then head to Ranua Wildlife Park, 80 km south. Here you can see polar bears, arctic foxes and 50 species of other amazing arctic animals. Ranua Zoo

Places to visit in Rovaniemi

Arktikum is a museum and science centre that tells about arctic nature, culture, traditions of indigenous Sami people, and life in the Arctic. It is also a perfect place to find more information about the northern lights. Pilke is a science centre that focuses on the forests of the Arctic and the connections we have with them as people living in the North.

Although Rovaniemi is not a large ski resort like Ruka or Ylläs, it has Ounasvaara ski centre where you can try snowboarding, cross-country and downhill skiing during winter and mountain/fat- biking or hiking during the summer. Lessons for both beginners and more advanced skiers or snowboarders are available through Ounasvaara ski school.

Korundi House of Culture is a space for art and people in Rovaniemi, Lapland. It is home to the Rovaniemi Art Museum and Lapland Chamber Orchestra. Every visit to Korundi is different. Changing exhibitions and unique concerts are a constant source for enlightenment. Korundi works globally: Rovaniemi Art Museum brings forth art from all over the globe, and Lapland Chamber Orchestra takes northern sounds around the world on its tours. The red brick landmark – a post bus depot that survived the second world war- is a stylish venue for meetings and functions, where first-class arrangements and service guarantee memorable moments.

Midnight sun

In summer months Rovaniemi cannot offer a northern lights show for you, however it has something else to surprise you with – the midnight sun! On the Arctic Circle where Rovaniemi lies, the sun officially stays above the horizon for a full 24 hours on summer solstice: 21st or 22nd June. The midnight sun period in Rovaniemi lasts for a month, from 6th June to 7th July. Why not sample a midnight sun picnic or a canoe trip down the Ounasjoki River. Have a look for more experiences during the period of the midnight sun. With the skies too bright to experience the northern lights the midnight sun is a wonderful natural phenomenon to enjoy during the summer.

There´s so much to see in the capital of Finnish Lapland

Located just 8 km south of the Arctic Circle, the city of Rovaniemi is considered the capital of Finnish Lapland. With a population just shy of 62,000, it is the regional administrative and commercial centre as well as a major hub of tourism and recreation in the area. Although there has been continuous human settlement in the Rovaniemi area since at least the Stone Age, few of the buildings date back before 1944 as most of the city was destroyed during WWII. When the city was rebuilt, it was designed with input by famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, who planned the city’s footprint in the shape of a reindeer’s head and designed several of its new structures. Not designed by Aalto, but arguably the most popular attraction of the Rovaniemi area, is the Santa Claus Village. This whimsical place is open year-round for visitors of all ages to meet Santa and his elves. Another notable attraction is the Arktikum, a museum and science centre that hosts exhibitions about the culture, history and modern life in the arctic. Other popular activities available near Rovaniemi include dog sledding, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, reindeer farm visits and ice fishing.

What a lovely day out! We were disappointed as the weather is too cloudy to see the Lights so we decided on a day trip. Our guides Azzurra, Alizé and Albert were marvellous and could not have taken better care of us. We spent most of our time listening and talking to Albert who was friendly, helpful and patient, but every one of the guides was great. We had a refreshing and beautiful hike through a snowy, silent forest. I'm in my 60s with a knee replacement; the hike was not a problem and felt like just the right level of exercise without being too challenging. (We clocked 10000 steps when we sat down for our hot food at the end of the hike). As a vegan and vegetarian we were able to cook our corn over an open fire, whilst others cooked sausages snd marshmallows.) All tours are pretty pricey in Lapland but we felt this was excellent value; we had a lovely day and learned a lot about the local environment and nature. Thanks to Azzurra and Alizé for taking such good care of us and a special shout out to Albert for his care, attention and being a mine of information.

We had an amazing weekend with Nordic Unique Travels. Our guides Jordi and Clement were the best we could have asked for. We did 4 tours this week with Unique. First the Moose Safari with Jordi. After a quick drive from our hotel, Jordi took us to a nature preserve where we saw many amazing animals: red fox, hare, capercaillie, and of course, 3 moose! We enjoyed blueberry juice and snacks. The next day we did the Taste of Lapland Tour and the Reflections of the Northern Lights Tour both with Clement. Clement was the most joyful person I had ever met. On the taste of Lapland Tour, he was excited about every berry and mushroom we found. And he made us the most delicious mushroom soup and salmon over the fire by the lake. Later that evening, we returned for the Reflections Northern Lights tour and we were happy to have Clement again. He took us to a lake where we photographed beautiful northern lights for hours. After, he cooked us reindeer sausage over a fire in a kota. Finally, we went out with Jordi again on the overnight bear safari. He was such a blessing as the ride was long and he never lost patience with the millions of questions we had to ask. He took the time to cater to our needs as well, stopping safely for reindeer viewing along the way. On our return from the comfortable bear cabin, we had a tight schedule and he adjusted to fit that deadline. At the cabin we met with 2 amazing naturalists who explained all about the ecosystem and the conservation of the brown bears in that region. And we saw 9 bears! Thank you Jordi and Clement for a truly amazing lappish experience.

I found this place via Viator listed as "Arctic Circle Family Day". It is listed as an eight hour tour, with starting times at either 0800 or 0900. I booked for 0800 in the email says to arrive 15 minutes prior. I show up at 0745 just to have the employees look at me all funny. I say I'm here to check in and they look at my paper and proceed to tell me that the tour starts at 0900. I'm known to forget a lot of things, so I logged into my account to double check. What do you know, as soon as the tour starts at 0800. So I'm already annoyed from the start. When we come back, the place is PACKED. I was greeted by the front desk and introduced to our tour guide, Rannar, or Ryan as he said to call him. He was actively packing for our trip and said to stand by the table and someone would help us get some coveralls, boots, mask, and a helmet. I noticed one employee, Lei, just helped some people out and wasn't actively occupied, so I asked him to help us out. Lei rudely asked where my guide was and told me to go ask him for help. Strike two! The first part of the tour was at a husky farm, approximately one hour away. There were several groups, with their respective tour guides, from the shop that met up there. It seemed like a small, privately owned husky farm where it seemed like we were rushed to just sit on the sled with one person on the back controlling the brakes. We didn't get to interact with the dogs too much. The site says we would go on a 6km husky sled ride. I'm not sure if it actually measured 6km, but it went on for quite a while, so that part was enjoyable. The dogs were cute and funny when we would stop. Next, we would head back to a frozen lake where we tried ice fishing. This time, it was only one other group with us. It was fun to drill holes into the ice and sit there trying to fish, at first. But without any luck, it got boring. While we were testing our luck, the two guides were building a fire and luckily, brought food to cook. If it depended on us to catch our own lunch, we would've had to just wait until dinner. They packed reindeer sausages, pork sausages, and salmon. We all got to grill our own sausages over the flame while the salmon had been smoking since they got the flame started. Lastly, we headed back into town where we would go snowmobiling. The shop didn't have enough helmets for Rannar in the morning when we left, so we had to wait for a group to come back before we could start. I felt like we waited for an hour, Rannar thinks it was 40 minutes, but either way, we waited 40-60 minutes before the group came back with a helmet for him to use. Before they came back, I already decided that it was strike three and wanted to just go back to the shop so that I could speak to the manager. I made sure Rannar/ know that I had NO hard feelings against him and it was just the three things described above. As I was venting to him, he calmly made sure he understood why I was upset and suggested that we still go on the snowmobile ride and then still speak to the manger afterwards. As he said that, the group came back and what do you know? It was Lei's group, which just added to the anger. Anyways, we went on the 25km (or so they say) ride and it was super fun. I didn't really try to let loose on the snowmobile as my mom was sitting with me and my dad was sitting with Rannar, but there were moments where I did. I was glad I let him talk us into still doing the snowmobile. Despite having fun on this event, I am giving one star for the three strikes mentioned. I would give Rannar five stars for showing us a great time and his professionalism. The "eight hour" excursion didn't mention a one hour drive to the first stop, the one hour (in total) back, or the 40-60 minute wait to snow mobile, add in the one hour delay for the 0800 mishap as well. ---EDIT--- I added a star to make it two stars total. After we got back, I spoke to someone about the three strikes and she had to call the manager about it. At first she said I was offered €x (won't say how much x was)back per person, but was only handed €2x. I looked at her, puzzled, stating there was three of us, so it should be €3x. I did some quick math in my head to calculate the approximate percentage of the total I paid and it was a fair refund, as is, so I accepted it. I probably could've made more of a stink to get €3x, especially since I had another tour booked with them for the next day, but the initial offer was generous.
