The Ultimate Travel Guide to Hammamet

For me, Hammamet was one of the first places when I started discovering Tunisia. It’s a popular tourist destination that reminds many other Mediterranean holiday destinations. So, how about this summer you choose Hammamet instead of Malaga in Spain or Crete island in Greece. The main differences are the lower prices and slightly hotter weather.

After my first visit, I have visited Hammamet multiple times to enjoy my summer holiday or as a day trip to swim in the Mediterranean sea. Now further ado, let’s jump into the ultimate travel guide to Hammamet!

What is Hammamet?

Hammamet is a coastal town in the northeastern part of Tunisia. It is situated on the southern shore of the Hammamet Bay of the Mediterranean Sea, about 60 kilometers from the capital city of Tunis. Hammamet is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches, lively atmosphere, and hot Mediterranean climate. The town has a population of around 60,000 people. But its population swells during the tourist season from April to October.

How to get there?

There are several ways to get to Hammamet, depending on where you are traveling from.

The closest airport is Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport is located approximately 40 km away. Many international airlines operate flights to this airport, including Tunisair, Ryanair, and TUI Airways. Once you arrive at the airport, you can take a taxi, a shuttle bus, or hire a car, or maybe your holiday package includes a bus transfer to your hotel. The shuttle buses drive between Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport and Hammamet. The shuttle buses are operated by several companies and can be booked online or at the airport.

Tunis-Carthage International airport is about 70km from Hammamet. The most convenient option is to take a taxi directly to Hammamet. Take a white taxi which is a tourist one that can drive outside Tunis. Depending on your arrival time, you could take a taxi first to Tunis railway station and a train to Hammamet Bir Bouregba (and again a taxi to your hotel). But this option is obviously more time-consuming.

If you are traveling from within Tunisia, you can take a train to Hammamet. The city has its own train station called Bir Bouregba, which is served by the national railway company SNCFT. The station is a few kilometers from the hotel resorts, so take a taxi to your final destination. Trains run regularly between Hammamet and other major cities in Tunisia, such as Tunis, Sousse, and Monastir.

Note! The Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport and Tunis Carthage International Airport aren’t connected to the railway network.

There are also regular bus services that operate between Hammamet and other cities in Tunisia. Between Tunis-Hammamet, the best option is to go to the bus stop called Bab Alioua in Tunis. There you can purchase the ticket (buying online isn’t possible). This bus is faster and more comfortable.

Where to stay in Hammamet?

Different areas in Hammamet

All of the areas are suitable for holidays and popular among tourists.  

• Hammamet Yasmine: This is a newer area of Hammamet that was built in the 1990s. It features a modern marina, upscale hotels, restaurants, and a large shopping complex. It’s a great option for those looking for a luxurious vacation experience.
• Hammamet Medina: This is the old town area of Hammamet, known for its traditional architecture and narrow streets. The Medina is home to the Kasbah, which offers stunning views of the surrounding area. Explore shops and markets selling local crafts and souvenirs.
• Hammamet Sud: This area is located south of the old town and is known for its beautiful sandy beaches. It’s a popular area for sunbathing and swimming. There are also several beachside cafes and restaurants. 
• Hammamet Nord: This northern part of Hammamet is a quieter area with a more relaxed atmosphere. It’s an area for a peaceful vacation away from the crowds. I like most the beaches and swimming in this area.

Here I have listed one hotel option per area listed above.  Hasdrubal Thalassa & Spa Yasmine Hammamet  is a 5-star hotel in the Yasmine Hammamet area, just a few steps from the beach. It has a spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and multiple restaurants.  Medina Solaria & Thalasso  is also a 5-star hotel. It is located in the Medina area of Hammamet. It has a thalassotherapy center, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and several restaurants. In the heart of Hammamet Sud, you will find a 3-star hotel,  Club Eldorador Salammbo.  It’s just a few steps from the beach. It has a swimming pool, a restaurant, and a bar.  La Badira  is a beautiful 5-star hotel on a private beach in Hammamet Nord. It has an infinity pool, a spa, and multiple dining options.

Hammamet is a beautiful seaside resort known for its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters. Here are some of the best beaches to visit in Hammamet:

• Hammamet Beach: This is the main beach in Hammamet and one of the most popular beaches in Tunisia. Its long stretch of golden sand is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops nearby, making it a great place to spend the day.
• Plage El Mrezgua:    A marvelous beach near Hammamet. It’s favored by locals and tourists and quieter than Hammamet Beach. Also, the previous president used to own a summer house here.
• Nabeul Beach: Nabeul is a neighboring town to Hammamet, and its beach is just as beautiful. This is a quieter and less crowded beach than Hammamet Beach, making it perfect for those looking for a more relaxing day by the sea.
• Yasmine Beach: Yasmine is another popular beach in Hammamet, located in the Yasmine Hammamet resort area. The beach is well-maintained and surrounded by hotels, shops, and restaurants. You may try different water sports activities, including jet skiing and parasailing.
• Maamoura Beach: Maamoura is a little further out from Hammamet, but it’s worth the journey. This beach is quieter than some of the other beaches in the area, and it’s surrounded by beautiful scenery and some rocky cliffs. The crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

Nightlife in Hammamet

Hammamet has a lively nightlife scene that caters to all tastes, from beach parties to nightclubs, bars, and discos. Spend your evening dancing at beach parties which can be found at most of the beach clubs and bars in the town. These parties are usually held during summer and feature DJs and live music. Or maybe try one of the nightclubs that are open until the early mornings.

Medina of Hammamet

The Medina of Hammamet is the historic old town of the city, and it is one of the main tourist attractions in the area. Explore a maze of narrow streets and alleys and fill your luggage with souvenirs such as ceramics, carpets, jewelry, and textiles. Here you find the list of 13 things to buy from Tunisia . Activities for kids

Renting a car - Hammamet travel guide

Rent a car for a day or two and have a little road trip around Tunisia. Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, is only an hour a drive away. Another great option is Nabeul, a town famous for handmade ceramics, and it’s located only 20 minutes’ drive from Hammamet. Located about 4 hours from Hammamet, Matmata is a unique Berber village known for its underground dwellings. Explore the troglodyte houses, which were carved out of soft rock, and learn about the Berber way of life. Maybe something a little bit closer? If you are willing to drive 200km, the well-known Roman amphitheater El Jem is situated in the center of Tunisia.

Wellness and spas in Hammamet

During your stay in Hammamet, you must try one of the countless Hammams. Hammam, also known as the Turkish bath, is a type of bathhouse and steam room. This centuries-old wellness ritual has a long history in Arabic culture. If you are a first-time visitor, you might be wondering about all kinds of questions about this wellness ritual. For this reason, I have created a hammam guide that covers everything you need to know. In that guide, I answer questions such as, what to wear in a hammam, how long you stay in, how much it cost, and what they do in a hammam. Many hammams and spas are located within hotels and resorts, but you find independent hammams from the Medina.

can you tell me if there are alot of street dogs that are ill treated, I cannot go somewhere if i see animals injured or hungry or mistreated.

In general, there are some street dogs in Tunisia (more cats) but I have seen other places that have more. If the street dogs are definitely no-go for you then I would not choose Tunisia. The dogs are not mistreated but normally you will see some dogs.

1. Explore the Medina

While the beach might be the town’s drawcard, Hammamet’s quaint Medina (Old Town) is well worth exploring.

Surrounded by original 15th-century walls, the medina boasts a myriad of narrow winding lanes lined with some beautifully preserved traditional Tunisian architecture.

Escape the heat of the day with a stroll around the Old Town where there are many little cafés and bars to enjoy a refreshing drink and plenty of  shopping opportunities for locally made ceramics , carpets , embroidery , and leather goods .

2. Soak up Some Culture at the Hammamet Cultural Center (Villa Sebastian)

The Cultural Center in Hammamet ’s Yasmine district is housed in the sumptuous Villa Sebastian , a beautiful example of Tunisian architecture named for George Sebastian , a wealthy Romanian who settled in Hammamet during the early 20th century.

Built in 1920, the building is used as a theater and concert venue and is surrounded by exquisite gardens that host Hammamet’s biggest annual event, the Hammamet International Festival of Music and Drama  every July and August. If you’re in town at this time, don’t miss it.

If you have an interest in history , head further along the coast to visit the excavation site of the Roman settlement of  Pupput and Hammamet’s first settlement.

3. Pay Your Respects at the Great Mosque

The Great Mosque is one of Hammamet’s most important buildings and a beautifully restored example of traditional Tunisian architecture.

Built in the 15 th century and restored to its former glory on 1972, the building stands next to the  Sidi Abdel Kader Mosque , which was built in 1798 and now functions as a madrassa (Islamic school).

Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter either building, but it is worthwhile visiting to admire the striking façades.

4. Climb the Kasbah

The 13th-century Kasbah of Hammamet is worth visiting if you need a break from sunbathing. There is an interesting museum that delves into the town’s colorful history as a pirate lair and later Spanish occupation.

Located three kilometers northwest of Hammamet between the two wadis of el-Thimad to the north and Moussa to the south, Pupput (Souk el-Abiod) is a Roman archaeological site that is well worth visiting.

Hammamet’s first settlement features ancient relics, cisterns, beautifully mosaic-ed edifices, and baths, and parts of aqueducts.

Hammamet is a fantastic spot to learn how to scuba dive or enjoy unforgettable snorkeling experiences. The Yasmine Dive Center offers a variety of experiences from scuba-diving courses, snorkeling excursions, boat cruises , and other water sports.

Surrounded by rolling farmlands and a long, white sandy beach, Nabuel is the Cap Bon Peninsula ‘s largest town.

Located about ten kilometers out of Hammamet , the town is worth visiting for its bustling Friday Market where you’ll find a wide variety of fresh produce and locally made arts and crafts .

14. Kerkouane

Take a day to explore further afield with a day trip to the historic site of Kerkouane . Located 86 kilometers north of Hammamet , the horseshoe-shaped site is thought to date back to the 6th century BC and features a network of streets, foundations of buildings and marble-floored houses that boast red and white mosaic decoration.

After exploring the site, pay a visit to the small  museum  next to the excavation site that showcases the history of Kerkouane and its archaeological findings .

15. Visit the Fishing Village of El Haouaria

Another day trip worth taking is a visit to the quaint fishing village of El Haouaria at the northern tip of Cap Bon.

The village is famous for being a place where falcons gather in the spring during their migration north to Europe. It also has a long tradition of training falcons to hunt quail.

Head to the village in May to catch the annual Falconry Festival to witness the skills of the village falconers in action.

Explore El Haouaria’s Roman Caves, which are a few kilometers north of the town , and feature long, 30-meter shafts of sandstone set into the coastal cliffs.

16. Spend the day at Korbous

Take a leisurely trip up the coast to the hot springs of Korbous for a relaxing day out from Hammamet.

Rich in minerals, the hot springs (known as Aquae Calidae Carpitanae) have been frequented since Roman times for their health benefits.

In the same area, you’ll find the Hamma el Atrous springs with pools cascading down into the sea and steaming temperatures. This is a great spot for unwinding in a beautiful setting.

Green Line Extension tours now taking reservations

The popular Green Line Extension LRT construction site walking tours are taking reservations for this spring’s escorted treks. The tours are scheduled for times when construction crews and machines are likely to be working.

Participants must be able to walk over uneven terrain for at least one mile to learn about and see construction progress on bridges, the Kenilworth tunnel and various stations. Project staff provide hard hats and safety vests.

Each tour is limited to 15 people. The free tours require pre-registration and fill up quickly. Register online at the Metro Green Line Extension website.

Louisiana Avenue Station (St. Louis Park) – Monday, May 13: 10-11 a.m.  

Completed freight and LRT rail elements, station platform, and improvements to the South Cedar Lake Regional Trail.

LRT project notes: Both tunnel tours are identical. Register for only one tour. During the remainder of the construction season, additional light rail construction site tours are contemplated .

Scottie Scheffler went back-to-back for a second time this season on the PGA TOUR this time at the RBC Heritage, a week after earning his second green jacket.

Scottie Scheffler backs up Masters win with dominant, historic victory at RBC Heritage

Scottie Scheffler is unstoppable right now.

Scheffler, just eight days after he picked up his second green jacket in three years, rolled to a second straight PGA Tour win on Monday morning. Scheffler posted a final-round 69 at Harbour Town to grab a dominant win at the RBC Heritage, which had to finish on Monday morning due to a late storm that rolled through the course on Sunday afternoon.

It marked Scheffler's 10th career win on Tour, and more than backed up his status as the top-ranked golfer in the world. He’s going to enter a 49th consecutive week at No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings on Monday.

Scheffler is now just the third Masters winner to win the following week on Tour, and the first since Bernhard Langer did so in 1985. Gary Player was the first to pull that off in 1978. Scheffler is also the first major championship winner to win the following week on Tour since Tiger Woods in 2006.

Scheffler had little issue beating out the field at Augusta National last week. He had the tournament locked up midway through the back nine as everyone else who was in contention quickly slipped away. Scheffler, who won his first Masters title in 2022, ended up beating out Ludvig Aberg by four strokes.

Nothing seemed to bother Scheffler at all last week, either — even the fact that his wife, Meredith, was at home in Texas expecting their first child at any moment. Scheffler had vowed to leave the tournament at any moment if she went into labor, which still hasn't happened yet.

“That's a testament to how good of a head space I was in,” Scheffler said after his win at Augusta . “I wasn't thinking about it that much. I was doing my best to stay in the moment, stay calm, execute shots.”

Scheffler didn’t miss a beat this week in South Carolina, either. He entered Saturday’s round three shots back of the lead, but he held a share of the lead just seven holes into his round. He carded a bogey-free 63 on Saturday, which ended up giving him a one-shot advantage headed into Sunday.

While Wyndham Clark put a little bit of pressure on him early on Sunday — Clark posted a 29 on his front nine with five birdies and an eagle — Scheffler didn’t flinch. He chipped in for eagle at the second to immediately get under par for his round, and he just sort of shrugged nonchalantly as he did so.

Scheffler made one more birdie before making the turn, which gave him a three-shot lead over the rest of the field. He pushed that to four shots when play was suspended for more than two hours due to weather on the back nine. Scheffler came back with one last birdie and a clutch par save at the par-5 15th before play was called for the night. 

So Scheffler returned to the 16th tee box at 8 a.m. on Monday morning to wrap up his round, which he did quickly without any issue. He easily made par on 17, but ran into a little bit of trouble on 18 when his second shot landed just a few feet from the white grandstand wall. So Scheffler, who had bogeyed only one other time this week (a double-bogey on the third hole he played in Round 1), ended the tournament with his only single-bogey in four rounds — and the win. 

Scheffler has now gone 44 straight rounds at even par or better dating back to the final round of the Tour Championship last August. Woods currently holds the Tour record at 52, which he set during the 2000-01 season.

It’s unclear if Scheffler will attempt to compete again on Tour before the PGA Championship next month, especially considering that he’s about to become a first-time father in the very near future. Either way, he’s at the absolute top of his game. Nobody seems able to even come close.

Jerry Seinfeld visits another local restaurant before Green Bay show, stops at Powers Comics

Jerry Seinfeld was in Green Bay this weekend for another stand-up show in Wisconsin — and once again demonstrated he has good taste in local businesses.

Before his Saturday night show at The Weidner , Seinfeld stopped at The Creamery for brunch, the downtown restaurant shared on Facebook .

"We had the honor of hosting Jerry Seinfeld this morning for brunch!" the post read. It included a picture of Seinfeld standing outside the restaurant, which is located along CityDeck.

It's not the first time Seinfeld has chosen a local restaurant when visiting Wisconsin on his comedy tour.

Before his sold-out show in Milwaukee in December, Seinfeld had lunch at India Garden in Wauwatosa . Both of his dining choices were lauded by Facebook commenters.

Seinfeld also made a stop at Powers Comics & Collectibles on South Ridge Road, the store shared on Facebook .

"You never know who will walk through the door at Powers Comics," they posted, adding #superman and #supermanfan hashtags (Seinfeld is a big fan of the superhero).

Seinfeld was last at The Weidner in January 2018. He has sold out the 2,000-seat University of Wisconsin-Green Bay  performing arts center  numerous times dating back to 2004 — sometimes two shows in one night.

UC pioneers green innovation with award-winning sustainability initiatives

On earth day, every day, uc leads campus-wide efforts toward environmental excellence.

In the heart of April, as Earth Day blooms, the University of Cincinnati's Sustainability and Utilities Departments took center stage, orchestrating a symphony of eco-conscious activities to boost campus consciousness towards greener living.

From vibrant campus Spring Fling festivities to enlightening tours of UC's acclaimed Central Utilities Plant  and Civic Garden , the university community was treated to a variety of events aimed at fostering sustainable behaviors.

A highlight was the Net Impact program's inventive blend of fitness and nutrition, where student entrepreneurs pedaled their way to smoothie bliss on stationary bikes inside UC’s Lindner College of Business lobby.

Furthering its green agenda, UC features a Bike Kitchen in Daniels Hall, empowering students with the skills to maintain their bicycles, while also offering free bike rentals through the Bike Share program for anyone with a Bearcat Card, helping to facilitate sustainable transportation across campus and beyond.

Culminating the week-long celebration was the thrilling Bike Kitchen’s Bike Show contest on Bearcats Commons, where participants flaunted their two-wheeled masterpieces, Whipped up smoothies while peddling a stationary bike and showed off their cycling prowess in a slow-peddling agility contest.

Saving the environment one can, bottle at a time

Sustainability coordinator, Alexandra Roman-Gonzalez, emphasizes the multifaceted benefits of such initiatives, also underlining UC's holistic approach to environmental stewardship. “We have recycling efforts all across campus,” adds Roman-Gonzalez. “With teams of volunteers, we come in near the end of football and basketball games to collect the recyclable cans and bottles. We successfully recycle these items while also helping to minimize the amount of landfill waste, as well as the work of stadium cleaning crews.”

As the calendar flips to May, UC's commitment to sustainability only intensifies. Professor Brian Grub of UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning will spearhead the creation of a new rain garden brimming with native flora — a project aimed not only at managing stormwater runoff but also at nurturing vital pollinator habitats. In addition, the organic produce from the adjacent Sustainability Garden will find its way to UC's  Bearcat Pantry , addressing food insecurity among students.

As part of the earlier  Climate Action Plan  enacted in 2019, UC Sustainability, along with UC Utilities held a campus-wide forum earlier this year for the entire UC community to weigh in on ways to improve the plan. Participants presented plans for actions and goals which were weaved into the new plan slated to begin this June.

UC Utilities celebrates 20 years of cogeneration

Meanwhile, the crown jewel of UC's environmental efforts lies within its Utilities Department, where a relentless pursuit of energy efficiency and renewable power sources has propelled the institution to the forefront of sustainability.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of its West Campus cogeneration plant, UC Utilities Director Mike Hofmann heralds the plant as a pivotal force in slashing greenhouse gas emissions, marking a monumental shift toward cleaner energy production. Honoring the two-decade old initiative and its retirees, Utilities will hold a luncheon on May 29th in the cogeneration plant parking lot on Jefferson Avenue, open to anyone on campus who wants to help celebrate the occasion.

Under Hofmann's leadership, UC Utilities has undertaken a series of transformative initiatives, including the adoption of 100% wind power for suburban campuses, innovative wastewater recycling for use in campus heating and cooling systems and the installation of cutting-edge chillers for enhanced energy efficiency.

Future endeavors

Looking ahead, UC's updated Climate Action Plan promises a roadmap for even greater strides in energy conservation, with a focus on expanding renewable energy sources and embracing emerging technologies like hydrogen fuel.

Embracing the campus-wide ethos of collaboration, UC Utilities aims to empower individuals to enact positive change through real-time energy monitoring and smart building controls.

These smart monitors, adorning the walls in all lobbies, tell occupants in real-time what energy is being used. In addition to providing Utilities the opportunity to monitor current usage, this system will give everyone inside buildings the ability to positively impact their environment by reducing their own water and energy use.

As Hofmann aptly summarizes, "The strength of our campus is our people." With a community united in their dedication to environmental sustainability, UC stands poised to lead the charge toward a greener, more sustainable future.

In the face of mounting environmental challenges, UC stands as a shining example of proactive stewardship, proving that with determination and innovation, a brighter, greener tomorrow is more than a goal — it's a way of life.

Real Estate Listings Are Going Green: 5 Eco-Friendly Sales Features on the Rise Right Now

Remember when you used to rubberneck at the sight of solar panels on someone’s roof, or wonder why your neighbors ditched their lush green lawn in favor of xeriscaping?

Today, eco-friendly home features are becoming commonplace as we all work in small ways to combat the effects of climate change and cut down the costs of our utility bills.

This earth-forward trend is even showing up in the tactics we use to sell our homes: Over the past six years, the share of Realtor.com® listing descriptions mentioning various eco-friendly terms—e.g., “energy efficient,” “zero energy,” “solar panels”—has risen at a slow but steady pace.

According to our research, the growth of green-friendly listings over this time frame has practically doubled. In 2018, there were 76,335 listings with prominent eco terms in the language, but by 2023, that number had jumped to 150,388.

Homes that tout “energy-efficienct” in their listing language have just about tripled, from 10,756 in 2018 to a whopping 29,288 just five years later.

Even those less-than-sexy rows of solar panels that were once considered anomalies are finding more fans, according to our data.

In 2018, nearly 25,000 home listings were advertising these ray-catchers, while last year that figure rose to almost 51,000.

Why eco-friendly listings are on the rise

“The rise in eco-friendly home listings mirrors trends we’ve seen in specific categories, such as for EV-friendly homes, called out in the team’s deep dive on the most EV-friendly housing markets ,” says Realtor.com Chief Economist Danielle Hale . “The data suggest that consumer tastes and preferences are leaning in an earth-friendly direction, and sellers are positioning their properties to meet those new and growing demands.”

Some homeowners are driven to save not just the environment, but also some cash—in the form of government kickbacks for adding eco-forward features to their homes.

“It’s worth noting that there are both carrots and sticks nudging homeowners to adopt more eco-friendly features,” Hale continues. “The Inflation Reduction Act included at least two provisions to rebate households for making electric and energy-efficient improvements, and there are many other state and local area incentives.”

Ways to go green at home

While not every homeowner can build a passive house from scratch, there are many ways to make a home more eco-friendly.

Better quality roofing is one avenue to try as this material reflects the sun’s heat, according to RJ D’Angelo , owner of  JWE Remodeling & Roofing . Redoing your home’s insulation or upgrading your appliances to more efficient, greener brands (like Energy Star) are two other ways to go.

Many new-construction homes incorporate earth-friendly features from the ground up.

“I’m mostly seeing these amenities in new construction, especially as it relates to insulation, encapsulation in crawl spaces, and the way HVAC systems are engineered—and I do think it creates resale value,” says Jessica Grier , a real estate broker with Premier Sotheby’s International in Charlotte, NC.

Curious to learn more about green home features you could buy in a home? Here are some other eco-friendly terms that are gaining traction.

Electric vehicle chargers

Electric vehicles are starting to flood the market—so it makes perfect sense that home listings will include the terms “EV charging” and “EV charger” in their language. These two phrases shot up from 212 and 139 in 2018 to 1,174 and 1,058 respectively in 2023.

And lately, there’s help with the costs. Government policies, like rebate programs, are in place to help motivate folks to consider buying an EV, which means charging stations at home should continue to burgeon.

Passive houses

A passive house is one that meets a certain standard of energy efficiency created by the International Passive House Association that combines strong insulation with specially coated windows. The result is a home that prevents warm air from escaping your rooms and blocks cold breezes that might waft in from the outside.

Since this type of construction is still rare, it makes sense that very few are up for sale. Currently, there are 86 on the market, up from 57 six years earlier. This tracks appropriately since there are only 250 certified passive buildings in this country.

 Xeriscaping

Xeriscaping —which involves replacing lush green lawns with native plants that don’t need much watering—might still be uncommon, but it’s growing in popularity as a real estate sales feature, with 721 mentions in listings in 2023 compared with 513 in 2018.

According to  Patric k Barrett , enhancements lead at FormLA Landscaping , this gardening approach does use less water, but since fire is a risk in some areas, it’s important to include hydrated foliage and smart irrigation too.

Tankless water heater

Upfront expenses are definitely higher for energy-saving tankless water heaters , but they’ll save you money down the road in hot water costs. The term “tankless water heater” has also taken off in listings data, nearly doubling from 35,000 mentions in 2018 to 57,400 last year.

Edible gardens

The “edible garden” trend peaked in 2020 when 322 listings nationwide mentioned them as a sales point. (Remember all those COVID-19 pandemic victory gardens ?) And although they’ve dipped to just 246 mentions in 2023, that’s still a respectable amount of farm-to-table action out there that many homeowners will see as a plus not just for the earth, but also come dinnertime.

Scottie Scheffler continues to pull rabbits out of hats, producing magic not seen on the PGA Tour since prime Tiger Woods .

Scheffler signed for an 8-under 63 Saturday at the RBC Heritage , soaring up the leaderboard and into the lead. He carded his 39th straight round at even-par or better, the second-longest streak seen on tour since 1983. Only Woods has bested that mark with 52 such rounds in 2000 and 2001, when he completed the famed ‘Tiger Slam’ by winning four straight major championships.

Speaking of majors, Scheffler arrived in Hilton Head “emotionally drained” after his historic win at Augusta National last week, and understandably so. As such, Scheffler maintained a low profile, practiced on the range after his arrival Tuesday, and played the back nine during Wednesday’s pro-am. He then said he would see the front nine on Thursday morning and go from there.

He did not get off to a great start on Thursday, making a double on the par-4 3rd hole. But he did salvage that mistake with two birdies on the front.

Scheffler closed his opening round with two birdies on 16 and 17 to shoot a 2-under 69. Then, on Friday, the two-time Masters winner carded a 5-under 66 to get into the mix, but nothing could compare to what Scheffler did Saturday.

“I felt like my ball-striking was really good today. Hit a lot of greens,” Scheffler said after his masterful third round.

“I played the par-5s well. The par-3s were very challenging, and I played them really well. Overall, it was a good effort. I'm proud of my score today.”

Amazingly, Scheffler has not dropped a shot since that third hole early Thursday morning. But the world’s top-ranked player knows that may not persist through Sunday’s final round.

“[Sunday] is going to be challenging,” Scheffler added.

“We’re going to get a different wind tomorrow, so the golf course will play pretty different. It’s something that we’ll adjust to tonight, kind of get in the right headspace. Go out tomorrow and try our best to stay patient and execute.”

Like his golf game, Scheffler’s mindset continues to amaze everyone in the golf world. His ability to stay patient, remain focused, and not lose sight of the task at hand are just further reasons why Scheffler has received comparisons to Woods.

His comments about his approach going into Sunday exacerbates that point further.

“We’ll see where everything shakes out. The guys behind me still have some holes to play, but we’ll see; either way, I’ll be in a decent position going into tomorrow,” Scheffler assessed.

“Just looking to go out and get off to a good start. On this golf course, you can shoot some low scores if you’re hitting it well and placing the ball in the right areas, so that’s what I’m going to try and do tomorrow.”

He looked like a master tactician on Saturday, carving up Harbour Town Golf Links by putting his golf ball in the perfect places. No wonder why he made eight birdies and 10 pars, making it look easy in the process.

But Scheffler has made this frustrating sport look so effortless over the past few months, and now he has a chance to do something that only one other person has: win The Masters and the RBC Heritage in back-to-back weeks. Bernhard Langer did so in 1985.

Now, Scheffler has a tremendous opportunity to go from winning a Green Jacket to a plaid one, further asserting himself as the game’s most dominant player. He has the mentality to do so, too, and he surely will enter the final round with a massive target on his back.

Yet, other players will fear his presence, too, just like all of those not named Tiger Woods throughout the early 2000s.
