Warsaw museums - I will visit all Warsaw museums in one vacation
Challenge: visit all Warsaw museums in one vacation
Has anyone seen all of Warsaw's museums? A few years ago, my family and I decided that we would visit every museum in Warsaw during the vacations. For various reasons, we put off the idea for "better times." Now we have come to the conclusion that the time has just come to face this task: during the vacations of 2023 we will visit all the museums in Warsaw. Since the task is not easy, according to Wikipedia in Warsaw there are more than 130 museums , and we are working and do not have unlimited time, we decided to change the rules of the game a bit. To make it easier, we changed the definition of vacation -. We will visit all museums in Warsaw between June 1 and October 30 .
We want to write a short report from each museum visit. We hope this will result in a mini-guide to Warsaw museums. In each report you will find
- the name and address of the museum
- how to get there
- opening hours
- summary of the museum's exhibitions and offerings
- information about what might be of interest to children
- ticket prices
- a brief summary of the foodservice offerings
Below is the current list of museums, which we will gradually add new establishments and update the status of our visits.
Keep your fingers crossed for us (and for Warsaw museums)!

About the museum.
The National Museum in Warsaw was originally founded in 1862 as the Museum of Fine Arts and is currently one of the oldest art museums in the country. After Poland regained its independence in 1918, the National Museum was ascribed a prominent role in the plans for the new state and its capital city of Warsaw, and the Modernist building in which it currently resides was erected in 1927–1938. Today, the National Museum in Warsaw boasts a collection numbering around 830,000 works of art from Poland and abroad, from ancient times to the present including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, coins, as well as utilitarian objects and design.

Grzybowska 79 Warsaw 00-844 Poland
"Warsaw. Phoenix from the ashes" is the name of the exhibition that will be open for public in Hiroshima from 16 November 2023. It tells the story of the capital of Poland under German occupation, during Warsaw Rising and after WW2 when it was being brought back to life. The Exhibition was organized by the Warsaw Rising Museum and The Adam Mickiewicz Institute in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Tokio and Municipal Authorities of Hiroshima.
The exhibition presents military, political, historical and personal aspects of the Warsaw Rising. For 63 days between 1 August and 2 October 1944 the inhabitants of the Polish capital were struggling against superior German forces whereas the Soviet Army abstained from giving a helping hand though standing on the other side of the Vistula river.

For VISITORS. Exhibition in Hiroshima
The Japanease visitors will have a chance to see an exceptional exhibition that tells the story about Warsaw in the 20th century with particular interest in the WW2 period, the Warsaw Rising and the phenomenon of the afterwar reconstruction. There is no coincidence that the exhibition will be presented in the very building of the Bank of Japan that was one of the few buildings that survived the annihilation of Hiroshima due to atomic bomb almost 80 years ago.
Established by the Warsaw Rising Museum, the Medal of the Courier from Warsaw is a distinction awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions to strengthening Poland’s ties with the West, maintaining good Euro-Atlantic relations, and promoting ideas and attitudes close to those of the Warsaw Rising: striving for freedom and independence, as well as building community and democracy. This year, the Medal will be awarded for the second time.
Frantic #7 Air Operation archive now at the Warsaw Rising Museum

Fryderyk Chopin Museum
Fryderyk Chopin is one of the most famous Varsovians and a trip to his museum is a must on any visit to Warsaw. It is located in the historic Ostrogski Palace and is one of the most modern biographical museums in Europe. The exhibits and multimedia displays tell the story of the life and the work of the composer. You will learn everything about his childhood and youth spent in Warsaw and his life after he emigrated. You will see letters written to him and by him, drawings and dedications. You will see one of the most popular portraits, artist Teofil Kwiatkowski created during his lifetime, a cast of his hand, and priceless mementos: a gold watch given to the 10-year-old artist in recognition of his talent, a candy box, a keyring with his initials, a cufflink, and a priceless Pleyel piano on which the composer played for the last two years of his life. Delve into the creative process of the artist by looking at his musical sketches, notes, and manuscripts of finished works. And all this in an interesting, interactive form. The ticket allows you to listen to the music of Chopin live at weekends. In front of the palace is a fountain with the Golden Duck – the heroine of one of the Warsaw legends.
