Beyoncé and JAY-Z Detail “On the Run 2” Tour

Beyoncé and JAY-Z have detailed their upcoming OTR II tour. Watch an announcement video (soundtracked by Marcia Atkin’s “I’m Still in Love With You”) below. The OTR II tour kicks off on June 6 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. They’ll continue to play UK and European shows in June and July before the first U.S. date on July 25 at Cleveland’s FirstEnergy Stadium . The tour is currently scheduled to wrap up on Tuesday, October 2 at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia. Find Beyoncé and JAY’z OTR II itinerary below.

The upcoming trek is the sequel to 2014’s On the Run Tour when they performed behind their respective albums Beyoncé and Magna Carta Holy Grail . This time around, they’re playing shows behind Bey’s Lemonade (which featured JAY in its film component) and Hov’s 4:44 , which featured Beyoncé on “ Family Feud .”

Recently, the couple appeared on DJ Khaled’s new song “ Top Off .” Read “ Beyoncé, The Rapper ” on the Pitch.

Jay-Z and Beyonce to Hit 21 North American Cities During On the Run 2 Concert Tour

The stadium shows will start in Europe before heading to the States – including the Rose Bowl

Jay-Z and Beyonce are once again hitting the road for a second go-round for their On the Run tour, performing in stadiums across Europe and the U.S. beginning this summer.

The new tour kicks off June 6 in Cardiff in the U.K. before jumping the Atlantic in late July for 21 North American gigs beginning in Cleveland, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The pair are set to perform at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles on Sept. 22.

In 2014, Jay-Z and Beyonce performed six weeks of sold-out stadium dates across North America as part of their original tour of the same name. The tour concluded with two international dates in Paris, that were filmed for an HBO special.

The tour is presented by Live Nation Global Touring in association with Parkwood Entertainment and Roc Nation. Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting Monday, March 19 at LiveNation.com and all usual outlets. On-sale dates and times vary.

It's official!

After weeks of speculation , Beyonce announced the On the Run II tour with husband JAY-Z, their second joint tour together. The 36-year-old singer announced the news with three black-and-white posts on Instagram, including a video of a few sweet moments between the two during their first On the Run tour set to Marcia Aitken's "I'm Still in Love With You."

The tour kicks off on Wednesday, June 6th in Cardiff, UK, and will stop in 15 cities across the UK and Europe and 21 cities in North America before ending on Oct. 2 in Vancouver, BC. Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting Monday, March 19, at LiveNation.com and all usual outlets. However, beginning Wednesday, March 14th at 9 a.m., members of the Beyhive and TIDAL subscribers will have a pre-sale opportunity for all dates. 

Beyonce and JAY-Z's first On the Run tour ran from June 2014 until September of that year. Clearly, the couple has plenty to work with since then, welcoming twins Sir and Rumi last June, and JAY-Z releasing his deeply personal album, 4:44 later that month.

Are you sitting down? I hope so, because the news that Beyoncé and JAY-Z are going on tour together again is enough to make anyone pass out with excitement. Music's ultimate power couple confirmed the exciting news that On the Run II was really happening on Monday via Queen Bey's Instagram , sharing a series of black and white photos featuring the couple on a motorcycle, footage from their first tour together in 2014, and an empty car in the middle of the desert. It's pretty much a guarantee that Beyoncé and JAY-Z have something wildly inventive in store for us, given both of their visionary albums Lemonade and 4:44 .

Jay-Z and Beyonce ‘On the Run 2’ Tour Date Announced – Then Retracted

The last time there weren’t rumors that Jay-Z and Beyonce will be touring or doing an album together was 2014, when the pair hit the road for the six-week “ On the Run ” North American tour.

Well, apparently “ On the Run 2” is coming soon: Shortly after Childish Gambino announced his tour dates this morning, Beyonce ’s Facebook and Ticketmaster pages announced a date for a Jay/Bey tour, on July 30 at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field — and then both posts were quickly deleted. Complex captured a screen shot of the Facebook page .

Reps for both artists did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for confirmation or more information.

The pair last toured together in 2014 for the first “On the Run” tour, supporting her self-titled 2013 album and Jay’s “Magna Carta Holy Grail.” Jay joined Beyonce onstage in New Jersey for the final date of her “Lemonade” tour in September 2016; Kendrick Lamar guested at that show as well, and DJ Khaled was the opening act. Just last week, Khaled dropped the single “Top Off,” which features Jay and Beyonce (and a little bit of Future).

The pair recently released a video for “ Family Feud ,” their collaboration from Jay’s latest album, “4:44.” Directed by Ava DuVernay, the “Godfather”-esque clip features Jay walking first with Blue Ivy in a large church, cutting intermittently with love scenes involving an unidentified man and woman. But soon, we see Beyonce in the church, wearing a black, vaguely Pope-ish looking outfit — and the love scene between the two unidentified people suddenly becomes violent as the woman stabs the man in the back. Meanwhile, Jay sits down in what is eventually revealed to be a confessional booth — with Beyonce on the priest’s side, waiting to hear his confession. While the song is generally viewed to be about unity within the hip-hop and black entertainment communities, there are lines related to Jay’s confessions of infidelity elsewhere on the album.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z announce On the Run II tour

The couple will play together for the first time since 2014

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have confirmed rumours that they will tour together this summer, detailing dates in the UK, Europe and North America. The married couple previously mounted the On the Run tour together in 2014, to promote their respective albums Beyoncé and Magna Carta Holy Grail .

The couple’s latest album releases are 2016’s Lemonade and 2017’s 4:44 . They are appearing together on DJ Khaled’s current single, Top Off.

Next month, Beyoncé will headline California’s Coachella festival . She was initially due to headline in 2017, but withdrew on doctors’ orders after discovering that she was pregnant with twins. The couple have three children in all – Blue Ivy Carter, six, and the twins Rumi and Sir, born 13 June 2017 – and will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary on 4 April.

The On the Run II tour starts in the UK at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on 6 June, before moving to Glasgow’s Hampden Park (9 June), Manchester’s Etihad Stadium (13 June) and the London Stadium (15 June). They will then head to Europe for 11 dates, before a run of 21 dates across north America, concluding on 2 October at Vancouver’s BC Place. A pre-sale begins on 14 March before tickets go on general sale on 23 March.

Last week, just as humankind was calming down from the rush instigated by the announcement of a Childish Gambino x Rae Sremmurd tour, official-looking Facebook event pages started popping up for OTR II. 

The event pages and accompanying Ticketmaster links were almost immediately removed, but not before screenshots started circulating on Twitter. Jay and B's reps refrained from any clarification until Monday.

DJ Khaled recently grabbed the couple for his new Father of Asahd single "Top Off." The track, which also features Future, sees Beyoncé credited as simply "B" and includes Jay's response to George Zimmerman's threats and alligator comments.  A video for the collab is expected soon.

The original On the Run tour spanned four months back in 2014, resulting in a special HBO broadcast of the Paris dates directed by Jonas Åkerlund. Hopefully, HBO and Jonas are planning to do something similar with the sequel.

Here’s What Beyonce And Jay-Z Can To Do To Top The First ‘On The Run’ Tour

If since-deleted Ticketmaster listings and official Facebook posts are to be believed, this summer the most powerful couple in the music industry, Beyonce and Jay-Z , will once again hit the stadium circuit for a sequel of their highly acclaimed On The Run tour from 2014. If you were lucky enough to catch the first iteration of On The Run , you’ll recall an experience like no other. While dogged by a never-ending string of tabloid covers, wildly speculating about the imminent end of their marriage in wake of the infamous “elevator incident,” the Carters hit the road, styling themselves as a pair of Bonnie & Clyde-style outlaws, knocking crowds of 60, 70, and 80,000 people off their feet on a nightly basis, with a collection of some of the biggest hits of the 21st century.

As someone who attended an On The Run show during the first go-around and was utterly blown away by the pair’s singing, dancing, and rapping, as well as the larger presentation of the show itself, I think that there’s room for improvement. That’s not a knock on the Carters’ first run, which surely has to rank in the Top-10 of a long list of outdoor stadium tours over the last five or six decades, but merely an admission that there’s always room for improvement. And while artists as visionary and talented as Jay and Bey don’t really need much outside help envisioning ways in which to build upon what they’ve already done, here are a few ideas that could help make On The Run 2 , bigger, better, and more compelling than the original. 1. Fling Some Mud And Beg For Forgiveness

The format for the first On The Run tour was a tag-team affair that fit the narrative of Jay and Bey as two outlaws on the lam together. The duo opened the show together with “’03 Bonnie & Clyde” and would kick together it for a couple of songs. Beyonce eventually leaves the stage giving Jay the spotlight to run through “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)” and “Tom Ford.” Then the lights would go down, Bey would emerge to play “Single Ladies” or “Flawless,” and so on. At the end, they stood tall together as conquerers while Beyonce blasted out her song “Halo,” while watching a cute video of themselves on vacation with their daughter Blue Ivy.

For this go-around, it would be far more compelling for Beyonce to emerge solo, and rip into her nastiest, most raw and angry cuts off Lemonade . Songs like “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” and “Love Drought.” She brings up “Becky with the good hair.” She tires of those “f*cking excuses.” She wonders at the “wicked way to treat the girl that loves you.” Then, and only after she’s done airing her grievances, does Jay emerge spitting the title track to 4:44 , rapping in circles all around her, apologizing for his infidelity, admitting “I don’t deserve you.” Maybe Jay is too prideful to pull off that kind of emotionally-charged display night-after-night for tens of thousands of people, but if 4:44 was the public response to the wounded feelings that Beyonce laid bare on Lemonade about the state of their fractured relationship, it would make for grand theater for the two of them to dramatize their personal turmoil and eventual reconciliation for a paying audience. The catharsis of their coming together at the end of the show would be legendary. 2. More Spectacle

Anyone who’s ever watched an action movie series knows that you gotta go bigger the second and third time around. The first Terminator movie featured a human from the future battling a malevolent T-800 cybernetic android who looked a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Pretty cool. Terminator 2 featured a similar model T-800 getting the crap kicked out of him by an even more technologically advanced shapeshifting android assassin called the T-1000. Badass!

For On The Run 2 , the Carters need to get their T-1000 on. I’m talking lasers. I’m talking holograms. I’m talking floating stages, massive blow-up dolls, fireworks, and pyro. I’m talking 200 dancers getting into “Formation.” I’m talking a suspended Roc Nation diamond made out of actual diamonds. I’m talking whatever new technologies that Elon Musk has locked away that only other members of the Illuminati like Jay and Bey are privy to at the present time.

3. A Solange Mini-Set

Let’s not forget, there were three people — technically four if you count the bodyguard — in that infamous elevator at the Standard Hotel on May 5, 2014. You had Jay in the white tux fending off blows, Beyonce standing against the back wall trying to stay out of it, and Beyonce’s sister, Solange, throwing kicks and punches with fury. In the years since that incredible footage leaked, Solange has emerged from her sister’s outsized shadow as one of the most enchanting live performers in the world. Her most recent album, A Seat At The Table , was a masterpiece. And while her son’s basketball schedule might preclude her involvement, how incredible would it be if the Carters ceded the stage in the middle of the show for 20-minutes to allow Solange to bring to life cuts like “Cranes In The Sky,” “Don’t Touch My Hair,” “Mad,” and “Losing You?” Even better, have her appear from underneath the stage and emerge through a set of elevator doors. Too on the nose?

4. Kanye West Shows Up To Bury The Hatchet

It doesn’t have to be for every show on the tour. Hell, it could be for one concert. Let’s say in Chicago, Ye’s hometown that also happens to be where I live (no one said I can’t be biased here). Imagine how big the crowd would pop after Jay launches into “N****s In Paris” and out of nowhere Beyonce’s biggest fan Kanye West saunters out all, “She said Ye can we get married at the maaaaaaall?” This whole Jay/Kanye feud feels like it’s already gone on way too long. For the sake of the rap-loving world, these two titans need to bury the hatchet once and for all . What better way to do that than in front of 70,000 fans, sobbing over the line the “Roc is still alive every time I rhyme.”

The tour will take the Carters across the U.K., Europe and North America from June 6 to October 2 this year. The shows are a follow-up to the couple's highly successful joint tour, On the Run, in 2014. This time around, fans can likely expect Beyoncé and JAY-Z to perform music from their latest albums, Lemonade and 4:44 respectively, which documented their emotional marital struggles and reconciliation.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on March 19 on LiveNation.com . However, Citi cardholders, Tidal subscribers and members of the Beyhive can take advantage of pre-sale tickets, which release on March 14, by registering on Beyoncé's website here .

Tina knowles shared how proud she is of beyoncé and jay-z's 6-year-old twins rumi and sir in an exclusive interview with e news..

Beyoncé and Jay-Z 's twins are ready to run the world, according to their grandmother.

In fact, Tina Knowles  believes the 6-year-olds have already found their true passions, with  Rumi  focusing on art and fashion.

"Rumi is amazing—an amazing artist, painter and creator," Tina gushed to E! News' Francesca Amiker  during the Kentucky Derby. "How could they be anything else growing up in that environment? All we talk about is creativity and fashion."

While Sir is much more reserved than his sisters, including 12-year-old Blue Ivy , the House of Deréon designer described him as "very, very smart."

"Sir is very quiet," Tina noted, adding that her grandson "does all of the numbers stuff, so he's not into fashion as much."

And the twins are already well on their way to success. After all, Rumi recently made history as the youngest woman to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 for her feature on Beyoncé's  Cowboy Carter   track "Protector." The impressive feat broke the previous record held by her sister Blue, who was featured on "Brown Skin Girl" in 2019 when she was just 7 years old.

Calling  Cowboy Carter  a "nice history lesson" for fans," Tina added of Beyoncé, "She has this way of doing things subtly but educating, and so I'm really proud of that."

A sweet feature

The "Texas Hold 'Em" singer featured daughter Rumi Carter on her new country album Cowboy Carter . 

"Protector," the fourth song on the project, begins with Rumi asking, "Mom, can I hear the lullaby, please?" The clip leads into an acoustic ballad reflecting on her deep love for her children

After more than two months of traversing Europe with her six-part, nearly three-hour show, Beyoncé has landed in the U.S. with the Renaissance World Tour .

Five-plus years since she last graced a concert stage, Beyoncé played for more than 1 million fans on her opening run overseas and will perform 23 stadium shows in the U.S., which started July 12 in Philadelphia.

Her setlist of nearly three dozen songs leans heavily on her current "Renaissance" album , but there are plenty of throwbacks, with "Crazy in Love," "Love on Top" and "Formation" joining new tracks including "Plastic Off the Sofa," "Cozy" and "Break My Soul."

In 2023, when megastar Beyoncé launched what turned out to be her sold out Renaissance World Tour, many in the Christian community called for a boycott, rebuking the star’s soul to hell and criticizing anyone that planned on dressing up in silver and going to the show.

Now, after Taylor Swift shared a video of her with blotted out eyes and eerily spooky visuals, fans are asking the internet and all of those same holy rollers to keep the same energy.

Variety posted the black and white video from her four-night stint in Paris for the “Love Story” singer’s Eras Tour and many of her fans were excited to see her. But the celebration of Swift’s scary look had Beyoncé fans railing.

One X user asked , “Where’s the christians talking about the devil & illuminati like they do on beyoncé?” as one member of the Beyhive asked, “Where’s the christians talking about the devil & illuminati like they do on beyoncé?”

Another reposted the visual and protested, “If Beyoncé put up a visual like this during the Renaissance tour, they would’ve said she was a devil worshipper, Illuminati, and ran wild with conspiracy theories, mere SECONDS after it hit the screen.”

While those fans claimed that Swift has been exempt from religious scrutiny, a week ago, the pop singer was slammed in Texas by an Evangelical faith leader, Shane Pruitt for having “anti-Christian” lyrics.

The national director for the Southern Baptist Convention’s Next Gen Evangelism movement said not only are her lyrics blasphemous, the chart-topper’s fanbase has made her “almost a Messiah figure.”

“I’m definitely not the minister or parent that has the ‘no secular music’ stance. Also, I fully realize unbelievers are going to act like unbelievers. However, there is a difference between being secular, and being ANTI-CHRISTIAN,” she wrote in an X post in April 2024. “In transparency I used to listen to Taylor, However I think now it’s time to reconsider.”

Both stars, who are often compared, have been ripped by church folk.

In February 2023, Prophetess Tiphani Montgomery preached a sermon where she took aim at the “Halo” singer for in her mind what Montgomery claims is leading people astray.

“I am just watching a lot going on, things that are being said, specifically about entertainers,” she began her “Covered By God” sermon before continuing, “specifically about entertainers that I even have relationships with, entertainers that I know off the stage.”

“When a witch has a coven it’s normally a small thing,” Montgomery said in her sermon. “Witches’ covens are normally three to seven people.”

She added, “When it becomes thousands it’s called a hive. Y’all a part of that lady beehive? And you call yourself a Christian?”

Montgomery then switched her attention to Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z.

“Why do you think that man call himself Jay-Hova, it was short for Jehovah,” the preacher said, before declaring, “May the dealings of the Lord come upon any Christian with a platform that is using mixture.”  

After hearing the condemnation, gospel singer and Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams blasted the faith leader.

“I just wish we would pray as publicly for entertainers as we rebuke them and damn their soul to hell,” she said, “I know it ain’t my calling mission, umm, to damn entertainers to hell and to say that they would drop dead. The devil is a lie.”

“Once you have that relationship with Christ, you know certain things you will do and won’t do anymore. Just like you used to pop bottles and drop it’s like it’s hot and the Lord changed your life, it’s a possibility that God will do the same things to others,” Williams said.

Beyoncé dances with giant robot arms on opening night of Renaissance World Tour

Beyoncé kicked off her 57-date Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm, Sweden, on Wednesday with futuristic panache. 

The set design on the opening night of the global superstar's second all-stadium solo tour appeared to be her most ambitious to date. Videos posted on social media showed pyrotechnics, disco balls, giant moving robots , and even a shiny, metallic tank that Beyoncé rode while singing.

The tour is in support of Beyoncé's seventh solo studio album, "Renaissance. It is her first solo tour in nearly seven years. The Formation World Tour in 2016 supported her album "Lemonade." 

Beyoncé sang all 16 songs from "Renaissance" at the tour's opening show, marking the first time she'd performed any of them live. Several older songs from her expansive catalog made their live debuts as well, including the Grammy-winning "Black Parade," "Lift Off" and "Savage Remix," her number-one hit with Megan Thee Stallion. 

Beyoncé started the show with four straight ballads, including her 2003 "Dangerously In Love 2," an unconventional move by a singer known to open her concerts with fast-paced smash hits like "Crazy In Love," "Run the World (Girls)," and "Formation." 

Beyoncé then launched into songs from "Renaissance," with performances replete with a futuristic set design — including those robotic arms — and queer, Black and trans-inspired choreography that evoked the themes and tenor of her latest acclaimed album. 

Dancing energetically alongside a legion of backup dancers wearing blonde wigs and glitzy silver leotards, the 41-year-old mother of three sang (and rapped) with the power and pristineness that's put her in a distinct category of pop performers. Her athleticism doesn't seem to have waned since her astonishingly aerobic headlining sets at Coachella in 2018. 

The performers' outfits were as outlandish and ultramodernist as the show's set design, ranging from a gold bodysuit inspired by Loewe's Fall 2022 collection to a giant bee costume — a sartorial embrace of her designation as "Queen Bey." Another outfit appeared to be transformed by UV light while she was wearing it. 

Beyoncé ended the show with a performance of the album's final track, "Summer Renaissance," while perched atop a gleaming, crystalline horse — evoking the "Renaissance" album cover — and later being hoisted above the crowd  amid a cloud of glittery confetti.  

Wednesday marked just the second live performance for Beyonce in nearly three years. Before her January show at the opening of Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai, Beyoncé hadn't performed in front of a live audience since she sang at Kobe Bryant's memorial in February 2020. She co-headlined her last world tour with her husband, Jay-Z, in 2018. 

Forbes on Monday predicted the Renaissance World Tour could earn nearly $2.1 billion — $500 million more than Taylor Swift's "Eras" world tour is expected to make and more than the revenue from all of Beyoncé's previous concerts combined. 

Beyoncé has announced that she will provide support for students and entrepreneurs throughout the Renaissance World Tour by giving out a total of $2 million through her BeyGOOD Foundation . The foundation's BeyGOOD initiative, founded in 2013, has undertaken various philanthropic endeavors in the U.S. and worldwide, including providing aid to communities affected by natural disasters, promoting education and supporting programs that address issues such as housing scarcity and mental health. It has also provided grants to small, Black-owned businesses — a focus since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd. 

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that. 

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role. 

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

Out of the Centre

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
