So you’re going on vacation to Cabo …

One of the first things you want to see is the iconic rock Arch of Cabo San Lucas, right?

You’ve heard about this remarkable sight rising up out of the sea…

The fun glass-bottom boat tours to get there. The barking sea lions. The frigate birds riding the hot air updrafts like roller coasters, high above the cliffs.

Every time we visit the Los Cabos area , we always make a trip out to the Arch. We’ve been visiting Cabo each year (sometimes twice a year) for more than 20 years now – and we’ve done all sorts of different tours to this famous rock formation in Cabo.

Here are our recommendations on how to get to the Arch of Cabo San Lucas (i.e., best Cabo Arch tours) and what you can see and do there.

Sculpted over millions of years, the Arch of Cabo San Lucas is a signature landmark of Los Cabos.

6 best cabo san lucas arch tours.

FAQs about the Cabo San Lucas Arch

Located at Land’s End, the southernmost tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula , the Arch of Cabo San Lucas is a distinctive granite rock formation which curves over the ocean in a majestic arch.

The three-story-high Arch is a natural phenomenon, carved by tidal and wind erosion over thousands of years.

A popular tourist attraction, it’s known locally as El Arco, which literally translates as “The Arch.”

You can’t walk or drive to it – it can only be reached from the water.

Attractions at El Arco

The sight of Los Cabos’ famous Arch is awe-inspiring.

But it’s more than just a stunning rock formation to gaze at. There are several other cool attractions to discover here too.

Lover’s Beach

Lover's Beach is one of the best beaches in Cabo San Lucas.

Known as Playa del Amor by the locals, this secluded hideaway sits between the mainland and the Arch of Los Cabos and, like the Arch, is only accessible by boat.

It hugs the protected Sea of Cortez , so the waters here are usually calm (especially in the morning, before the wind picks up, and then again around sunset , when the wind dies down).

Although the alluring scenery may ignite a romantic spark, you’re not likely to have the beach to yourself, as it’s one of the most popular spots in the area.

One reason: Its calm waters make it one of the few safe swimming beaches in Cabo . Second reason: There’s also some great snorkeling offshore.

Visitors enjoy kayaking, swimming and snorkeling at Lover's Beach.

Divorce Beach

Directly opposite Lover’s Beach, facing the rougher Pacific Ocean is this equally beautiful stretch of sand.

Jagged rock formations guard the beach like sentries.

You can walk across the sand from Lover's Beach to Divorce Beach

Divorce Beach is said to have earned its name because of the strong currents and impressive waves that crash upon the beach’s shores – which can result in couples fighting.

Like… “ Honey, don’t go for a swim there! ” and “ Nah, don’t worry, I can do it! ”

Both Divorce Beach and Lover’s Beach have no facilities (such as eateries or restrooms), so you should bring your own water and snacks.

Sea lion colony

Cabo’s Arch isn’t just popular with tourists.

Hanging out on a nearby wave-washed rocky platform ( La Lobera or The Rookery) is an entire colony of sea lions .

A big sea lion basks in the sunshine near the Arch

Fun fact: Weighing around 400 pounds, these water-loving creatures can hold their breath underwater for up to 20 minutes!

The best way to view these playful marine mammals is via a boat tour from the Cabo San Lucas Marina (details below).

You can hear them before you see them. Their bark echoes loudly across the water. Oh, and you can smell them too. Talk about stinky!

Pelicans and sea birds

Sea birds fly over the rocks at Land's End, Cabo San Lucas

The rock formations which line Land’s End are the perfect resting place for a range of sea birds, including egrets, gulls, cormorants and brown pelicans. (Sea birds like offshore rocks since they offer a safe refuge.)

The aptly named Pelican Rock (which itself sort-of looks like a pelican!) is a favorite spot for these noisy birds to roost – the white poop that coats the rock is a dead giveaway.

Pirate’s Cave

Pirate's Cave, Cabo San Lucas

Tucked away near the base of the picturesque Arch of Cabo San Lucas is a hidden cave that was once a clandestine haunt for pirates before the 1900s. Or so the rumor goes…

It’s said pirates used to lurk here and in other coves along the Baja coast, waiting for unsuspecting trade ships to pass by.

This sea cave is best seen at low tide on a boat tour.

The best way to see this famous rock formation is to take a Cabo Arch tour.

There are numerous tours available, from luxurious sunset cruises to kayaking adventures.

Below are some of our faves. When planning your trip to Cabo , you’ll want to do one of these!

Prices are in USD.

1) Sunset cruise

Arch of Cabo San Lucas

There’s really no better way to end a day in Cabo San Lucas than via a classy sailing experience as the sun sets over the stunning Arch.

Cabo Sailing is our go-to tour operator for this experience.

We’ve enjoyed two luxurious cruises with them now, sipping wine and margaritas and nibbling on appies as we sailed around the Cabo San Lucas rock formations.

Their sunset cruises take a maximum of 14 people but you can typically expect fewer people. We only had six guests (including us!) on one of our cruises.

A woman sips a glass of wine on a sunset cruise in Cabo San Lucas.

Alternatively, if you’re searching for a unique Cabo activity (maybe with the kids?), jump aboard a pirate ship for a sunset cruise like no other!

You’ll set sail on the only pirate ship in Cabo for a fun dinner cruise.

Hear pirate tales, play games with the pirate-dressed crew, dance, enjoy an open bar (adults only, of course!) and tuck into a barbecue dinner with ribs and chicken.

2) Water taxi ride to the Arch at Cabo San Lucas

Water taxi boats cruise by the Cabo San Lucas Arch.

If you’re just visiting Cabo during the day (maybe on a cruise?), a glass-bottom boat ride or water taxi is probably the best option to take you to the Arch.

You can hop on one from Medano Beach or the Cabo San Lucas Marina.

There are plenty of different vendors.

The cost varies, depending on whether they’re busy (i.e., if it’s high season or cruise ships are in the Cabo San Lucas port ) and how good your bargaining skills are.

But in general, the cost is about $20 to $25 p.p. If lots of cruise ship passengers are milling around, you might pay more.

These Cabo Land’s End tours typically putter around Land’s End, showing you all the sights – and slowing down at the Arch so you can take pictures.

If you’d like, they’ll drop you off at Lover’s Beach for some swimming or snorkeling and pick you up later at a predetermined time to take you back to where you came from.

For example, here’s a shared water taxi ride aboard a 30-foot boat that costs just under $20 p.p.

It’s one of the cheapest tours we’ve found! And it’s received tons of 5-star reviews.

The one-hour tour leaves from the Marina, and you have the option of being dropped off at Lover’s Beach on the way back. (Just ask, however, about being picked up again – that may cost extra.)

Alternatively, this glass-bottom boat tour is 45 minutes long.

You can ask for drop-off and pick-up at Lover’s Beach (time spent at the beach is in addition, making your tour longer).

Or you can ask to be dropped off at Medano Beach at the end, instead of back at the Marina.

Or upgrade from a glass bottom boat to a completely clear boat! It’s one of the most unique ways to tour Land’s End.

cabo rock tour

When you’re in one of these completely transparent boats from Enva Tours, you can see all the colorful tropical fish through the bottom of the boat and the sides!

Their tours are 50 minutes’ long.

(But we don’t believe you have the option of getting off at Lover’s Beach and being picked up later. Perhaps if they’re not busy, you can arrange this.)

3) Kayaking tour to Land’s End

If you’d like to get some exercise too, a kayaking tour is one of the best ways to see the Arch in Cabo.

Paddling along the clear Sea of Cortez water, you’ll be met by unrivaled views of the Baja California Peninsula without the rumble of a motor disturbing the sounds of the ocean or the cries of seabirds.

A couple in a double kayak by the Los Cabos Arch

For kayaking tours in Cabo, we highly recommend a small family-operated tour company called Cabo Outfitters. We’ve gone out with them on several tours in Cabo (including a kayak tour).

Cabo Outfitters is run by a lovely couple, Casey Catlin and his wife.

They’ve been living in Cabo for over 22 years now and they’re incredibly knowledgeable about the area.

They only hire the best tour guides for their kayaking tours (Casey is one of them), so you can be confident you’re taking to the water in safe hands.

Their Arch and Lover’s Beach kayaking and snorkeling tour is about 3½ hours long and includes hotel transfers. All the reviews are 5-star.

4) Snorkeling or scuba diving near the Los Cabos Arch

Beneath the surface of the water near the Arch of Cabo San Lucas, there’s a whole world of marine life just waiting to greet you.

Fish underwater at Land's End

Sea turtles, rays and angelfish are just some of the creatures you may encounter here when snorkeling or scuba diving .

For snorkeling at Land’s End, we recommend this luxury yacht sailing and snorkeling tour with Cabo Sailing. We’ve done two sailing trips with them now – and love the upscale experience they offer.

You get to snorkel near El Arco, sip cocktails from an open bar and enjoy a light lunch on their 3-hour trips.

If you’re traveling with friends or family, you might like a private Cabo boat tour to the Arch.

Check out this private boat tour with La Isla Tours.

Their 32-foot x 12-foot custom-made catamaran is unique.

cabo rock tour

The deck space is flat and wide, with lots of space to chill out – think comfy couch seating and coffee tables under a shade roof – and it comfortably takes up to 12 guests.

It putters out to the Arch, where it anchors so you can hang out, play your own music on their MP3 system, go snorkeling and relax on a floating mat.

You can even bring your own food and alcohol! (Or let them cater for you.)

Family on a floating mat in Cabo San Lucas

As for scuba diving, certified divers can go out with MANTA Scuba on a 2-tank dive at Land’s End on one of their shaded, custom-made dive boats.

The water visibility is typically very good – and you can watch the unique underwater sand falls here!

We’ve gone scuba diving with MANTA (at Cabo Pulmo National Park ) – they’re highly professional and very good.

5) SUP to the Arch

Another fantastic way to see Los Cabos’ famous Arch up close is by paddling there on a SUP board. It’s one of our favorite water-based activities in Cabo ! (Well, Janice’s – George is still working on his balance.)

You can rent stand-up paddleboards on Medano beach for around $25 to $30 an hour.

SUP is a popular water sport on Medano Beach.

Be aware that you can only SUP from Medano Beach to Land’s End early in the morning. For safety reasons, you can’t cross over the Marina channel after 10:00 am, when boat traffic picks up.

As it takes about 90 minutes to two hours to paddle to the Arch and back to Medano Beach, you should plan on leaving by 8:00 am at the latest.

Also, the wind is typically calm early in the morning, so the water will be flat and easier for paddling.

Alternatively, opt for a guided SUP tour , which includes snorkeling at Pelican Rock and/or relaxing on Lover’s Beach.

The beauty of this top-rated tour is that you go with an expert tour guide and instructor and learn how to SUP if you’re a newbie to the sport.

You also leave from a beach on the other side of the Marina channel – so you’re in no danger of crossing the path of any boats and don’t have to finish by 10:00 am.

Hotel pick-up and drop-off is included in this Los Cabos Arch tour.

6) Day sailing tour to the Arch of Cabo and beyond

Of course, the Cabo coastline consists of more than the Arch and Land’s End.

And there are some great sailing trips that visit both the Arch plus one or two other top snorkeling spots like Santa Maria Bay and Chileno Bay.

Check out this popular 4-hour snorkeling and sailing cruise from Cabo Adventures.

Lounge on cushions and pillows scattered about the deck of a luxury sailboat as you first cruise by the Arch. You then head for Santa Maria Bay or Chileno Bay, where you anchor for snorkeling and SUP boarding.

You’re also treated to an open bar, along with fresh grilled shrimp, seafood ceviche and chicken Caesar salad for lunch. Fresh towels, snorkeling gear and SUP boards are included.

Cabo Blue trimaran in Cabo San Lucas

Alternatively, if you like to sleep in, you may prefer this highly-rated snorkeling and sailing afternoon excursion on the 48-foot Cabo Blue trimaran.

Leaving at 1:00 pm, it combines a Cabo Land’s End tour with snorkeling at Santa Maria Bay.

Enjoy sipping on ice-cold cocktails from the open bar as you relax under a shaded canopy on the boat. After cruising to the Arch, you sail to Santa Maria Bay to snorkel.

The boat carries SUP boards, so you can try the sport of stand-up paddleboarding too.

More than 300 happy sailors have given this Santa Maria Bay and Cabo Arch boat tour 5-star reviews on Viator.

Stand-up paddleboarding in Cabo San Lucas

In the winter, these sailing adventures offer whale watching too.

Humpback and other whales migrate to the waters off Cabo in the winter months to mate and give birth to their young. So between December and April, you’ll probably also get to marvel at some of the largest mammals on the planet up close!

Frequently asked questions about the Cabo San Lucas Arch

What is land’s end, cabo san lucas.

Land's End, Cabo San Lucas

Land’s End is a unique geological feature consisting of dramatic rock formations at the southernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico.

It marks the point where the Sea of Cortez merges with the Pacific Ocean.

The highlight of this landmark is the iconic El Arco or Arch, a rugged symbol of the beauty of the region.

How was the Arch of Cabo San Lucas formed?

The Arch, which is part of the rock formations at Land’s End, was formed over millions of years through the process of erosion and weathering.

Over time, the wind and constant pounding of waves against the rock have worn away the softer rock, leaving behind only the harder parts that form the Arch.

Can you walk to the Arch in Cabo?

No, you can only get to the Arch via the water, be it by boat, kayak or stand-up paddleboard.

However, every few years, enough sand accumulates around the Arch and the tide recedes enough to reveal a hidden beach which runs from Divorce Beach under the Arch.

We were lucky enough to discover it one year. We were able to actually walk through the Arch and look at it from a unique vantage point.

Sand beach underneath the rock Arch of Cabo San Lucas

Mind you, we haven’t seen this sand beach underneath the Arch since that time.

Can you see the Arch at Cabo from the beach?

No, the Arch can’t be seen from Medano Beach.

One place, however, where you can see the Arch from shore is The Cape, a Thompson Hotel .

Its position at the northern end of the Cabo San Lucas Bay gives it great views – though they’re long distance views. It’s one of the best places to stay in Cabo .

That wraps up our guide on the Cabo San Lucas rock Arch!

No matter how many times we’ve visited the famous Arch in Cabo San Lucas, we never get tired of going out to visit it again.

This stunning natural wonder is a testament to the incredible power of nature and a must-see Cabo San Lucas attraction when you visit the area!

The incredible granite rock formations that extend to Land End in Cabo San Lucas have, over time, become much more than mere boundary markers or evocatively shaped oddities. The jutting promontory is a living symbol of the city, a sort of cinematic shorthand; and to see so much as a silhouette is to know exactly where you are in the world. In addition to its geographic and symbolic importance, Land’s End is also immensely important historically, and a thriving habitat for native flora and fauna, both above and below the waterline. Sea birds roost on craggy perches. Sea lions bask and bark. Marine life teems in the nutrient rich waters that hug the shore.

At dawn atop El Vigía (The Watcher), the large, humplike hill whose crest marks the high-point (500 feet) of the Land’s End headland, the rising sun covers land and sea with a blanket of red-gold light, before slowly unveiling the slow-rolling waves of the Pacific that stretch to the western horizon. It’s a scene that has been repeated innumerable times, and witnessed by innumerable generations of inhabitants, human and otherwise.

For some perspective, the Sea of Cortés was born about 5.3 million years ago. So for more than 25 million years–a vast expanse of time–tectonic plate shifting and other geological processes were inexorably moving the Baja California peninsula towards its present position.

Playa del Amor was often referred to as Doña Chepa, or Doña Chepita, after, as legend has it, a prostitute who had appropriated the area for business purposes. In fact, her activities may have suggested the beach’s current moniker, which, if true, somewhat lessens the romance factor. Nonetheless, this lovely golden sand beach and its gently sloping underwater shelf are among Land’s End’s greatest treasures. Just beyond Lover’s Beach is Neptune’s Finger, another granite pinnacle, this one in the shape, as the name suggests, of a slightly bent finger rising from the deep. Corals, sponges and sea fans are among the most common sights for visiting divers. And beyond that, the Window to the Pacific, a vertical keyhole crack in the rocks at Land’s End that allows boaters on the Sea of Cortés side to see through to the Pacific. Boobies and cormorants nest nearby.  El Arco, the great arch itself, is also the boundary marker. It divides land from sea–it is the last stretch of uninterrupted land reaching down from Alaska to the southern tip of the 800 mile long Baja California peninsula–sea from sky, and the Sea of Cortés from the Pacific Ocean. A must visit during your Vacation in Los Cabos.

Went whale watching on the beautiful Cabo2vegas yacht. As a local in Cabo for many years, I have been on a lot of cruises and I have to say this was one of the better experiences for me. The boat was clean, crew friendly and we saw a lot of whales. The appetizers were delicious and great drinks. My glass was never empty. Marc and Tiffany were great hosts and went overboard in making our trip fabulous. They even welcomed my small dog on board and assured her safety by putting a life jacket for dogs on her. I would not hesitate to go out again with them and definitely will recommend Cabo2Vegas to all locals and tourists. It was a great experience and it won’t be my last on this boat.

Sammy Hagar on Rocking with Van Halen, Building His Cabo Wabo Empire, and Why Live Music Will Be The ‘Ultimate Savior of Art’

Sammy Hagar

Contrary to what you might have heard in a certain song, there are, in fact, quite a few ways to rock. And few people know that better than Sammy Hagar .

Popular on Variety

“I truly believe that live music is probably going to be the ultimate savior of art,” Hagar says. “You can have all this AI stuff, you can do so many things with computers, but then when you see a Bob Dylan-type walk out with a guitar and a harmonica around his neck and start singing about something that matters, with heart and soul and truth in it… that’s always going to be valuable to people.

Hagar’s fortunes then unexpectedly shifted into the stratosphere. After the departure of frontman David Lee Roth from Van Halen, guitarist Eddie Van Halen (a Montrose fan of long standing) asked Hagar to join the band in his place. It was an unlikely marriage on paper — Hagar’s more serious musicianship and unpretentious everyman appeal couldn’t have been further removed from Roth’s preening wildman persona — but phenomenally successful. From 1986 to 1995, the Hagar-fronted Van Halen released four No. 1 LPs, each going platinum several times over.

Leaving the group was rough for Hagar, who suddenly found himself more famous than ever, but somehow needing to prove himself anew.

Of course, Hagar’s post-Van Halen solo ventures were plenty successful: he notched rock radio hits with 1997’s “Little White Lie” and 1999’s “Mas Tequila.” But it was yet another band — the supergroup Chickenfoot, with guitarist Joe Satriani, former Van Halen bandmate Michael Anthony and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith — that saw Hagar return to the uppermost reaches of the Billboard charts in the 2000s.

“Not to beat my chest, but I’m a real easy guy to work with,” Hagar says. “I really don’t have an ego when it comes to music. I’m always better with other people, I’ll be the first to admit. I personally know that when I would write songs with Eddie or Joe, they were better than what I could do myself.”

It was that same collaborative spirit (pun very much intended) that saw Hagar notch one of his most unexpected coups starting in the 1990s. After falling in love with Baja California while on vacation, Hagar teamed with a local developer and opened up his own bar in Cabo San Lucas. Eventually, that one bar blossomed into a multimillion-dollar beverage line and a chain of satellite Cabo Wabo Cantinas and Sammy’s Beach Bar and Grill locations across California, Nevada, Ohio and Hawaii. Long before the likes of Jay-Z and Rihanna made these sorts of ventures de rigueur for pop stars, Hagar was already busy building his own south-of-the-border business empire.

And just as it was in his earliest days, as a kid in Fontana who saw Elvis on television and immediately wanted to pick up a guitar, that act of creation remains the central driver for Hagar, no matter the venue or the audience.

“At a certain point, I decided I didn’t want to be on a record label anymore,” Hagar says of his later career. “Music was changing, radio wasn’t playing my type of music, MTV was gone, so it was like: ‘Wow, where are you gonna go?’ So I said I don’t care, I’m just gonna make my own records. A record like [2000’s] ‘Ten 13,’ or [2006’s] ‘Livin’ It Up,’ those are great records. The best record I ever made in my life was the last one: [2022’s] ‘Crazy Times.’ I’d argue with anyone. It’s right up there with [solo breakthrough] ‘Standing Hampton.’ And it sold like 70,000 copies, and that’s fine. I make records these days because I get creative ideas and I can’t just sit on them. Breaking News

Music | elizabeth holmes’ projected release from prison is moved closer, music | this bay area band was ‘yacht rock’ way before ‘yacht rock’ was a thing, pablo cruise brings its soft-rock hits to guild theatre.

Soft-rock band Pablo Cruise got its start in the 1970s when members of Bay Area bands Stoneground and It's a Beautiful Day joined forces.

For Bay Area band Pablo Cruise, however, the connection to the genre has been longer — and mote literal — than for most.

“Our headquarters was an 82-foot schooner in the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon,” says Cory Lerios, who co-founded Pablo Cruise in 1973. “So, we were definitely yacht rockers back before yacht rock was a term.”

From that base, the band has delivered some defining gems in what is now known as the yacht rock genre, which celebrates the smooth a.m. radio staples of the ‘70s and early ‘80s delivered by such artists as Toto, Nicollette Larson, Poco and the Little River Band.

Most notably, Pablo Cruise was responsible for the meticulously produced soft-rock numbers “Whatcha Gonna Do?” and “Love Will Find a Way,” both of which were Top 10 hits and rank as first-tier yacht rock staples.

Those two songs — which sound as good today as they did when they first came out in the late ‘70s — are two of the biggest reasons why fans will turn out to see Pablo Cruise when it performs May 9 at the Guild Theatre in Menlo Park. Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are $49, guildtheatre.com . The group also plays May 8 at the Felton Music Hall and May 10 at the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma, pablocruise.com .

The Menlo Park show will be a homecoming for Lerios, who now lives in Thousands Oaks but was born in San Francisco and grew up in nearby Palo Alto. It was on the Peninsula where he began playing piano and joined his first bands in junior high school.

“I never really thought I would make a career of it,” Lerios says of playing music. “But one thing led to another and I kind of never looked back.”

He’d find his first taste of real success as a member of Stoneground, a Concord-based rock act that released a number of albums on the Warner Bros. records label in the 1970s. After a few years, however, Lerios and two other Stoneground members — vocalist-guitarist David Jenkins and drummer Steve Price — would leave the fold and go on to form Pablo Cruise with the help of bassist Bud Cockrell (previously of the Bay Area act It’s a Beautiful Day).

One thing to note from that list of original band members is that none of them are, in fact, named Pablo Cruise. Neither are any other of the current or former members, for that matters. So, it’s probably a good time to pause and clear up the origin of the moniker, which Lerios says has certainly drawn plenty of questions over the years.

“The truth is that it was a nickname of a buddy of mine from Colombia, South America,” he says. “It was just a nickname I gave him — Pablo Cruise. He was a very bright guy, very charismatic. And I just called him Pablo Cruise.”

So, when it came time to name this new post-Stoneground outfit, Lerios remembered his ol’ pal’s nickname and thought it fit in with one of the trends of the era.

“It was kind of at that point where you had Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull — a lot of two names for these bands — and Pablo Cruise just had a great ring to it,” Lerios reckons.

Whatever they called themselves, these four musicians were bound to get discovered at some point — given that they were all great players and wrote memorable tunes. So, not surprisingly, it wasn’t all that long before A&M came knocking and Pablo Cruise was thrilled to sign with such a well-regarded record label.

“A&M was notable for sticking with a band,” Lerios says. “Today, labels barely sign bands. But they don’t support bands like they did a lot of back in the day. They supported tours. They supported the making of the record, the travel — all kinds of things that they don’t do anymore.”

The result was the band’s 1975 eponymous debut, which eeked its way into the Billboard 200 and began setting the foundation for the success that would later come. It didn’t produce any hit singles, but it did give listeners a wonderful 12½-minute instrumental number called “Ocean Breeze” that drew plenty of spins at album oriented radio (AOR) stations.

“If you want to check out some deep Pablo Cruise, you should listen to that — because it’s a phenomenal piece of music,” Lerios says. “And that (song) really got us going. Still, everywhere we play now, people ask to hear ‘Ocean Breeze,’ which is always nice to know that people have gone that deep into the repertoire.”

A second album, titled “Lifeline,” followed in 1976 and managed to hoist the band a bit further up the charts, but Pablo Cruise still lacked that hit to really take it to the next level.

All of that would change with the third album, 1977’s “A Place in the Sun,” although not overnight. In fact, the first single released from that album was “Atlanta June” and it didn’t live up to expectations. Oh, but the B-side was a catchy little number called “Whatcha Gonna Do?”

“(Radio stations) played ‘Atlanta June’ and it got some acclaim, but it didn’t really take off the way they’d hoped,” Lerios remembers. “So, somebody flipped it over and put on ‘Whatcha Gonna Do?’ and, all of sudden, it started to blow up.”

The song slowly climbed the charts, eventually breaking into the top 10. The group then scored a second hit with the album’s terrific title track.

“When it gets to that point, everything changes,” Lerios says. “The phones really start to ring. You are getting offers to be on TV shows. All of a sudden, it’s like you’ve arrived.”

The band quickly followed up that album with another winner, 1978’s “Worlds Away,” which produced three hits – including the slam-dunk single “Love Will Find a Way.”

Both albums, “A Place in the Sun” and “Worlds Away,” would be certified platinum.

That would be the zenith of the band’s career, although it did produce two more albums — 1979’s “Part of the Game” and 1981’s “Reflector” — which still did quite well on the charts. The same could not be said of the band’s last studio record, 1983’s “Out of Our Hands,” which failed to chart as listeners had moved on from Pablo Cruise-style soft rock to other styles of music.

“There was a certain instrumentation, a certain form of writing that was predominant back then,” Lerios says of the a.m. hits of the era. “Then, all of a sudden, like the Knack, Johnny Rotten and all these bands came in and punk rock kind of took over and just squashed soft rock.”

By the mid ‘80s, the band members parted ways.

“Success can change things and as we just evolved in our lives, Dave (Jenkins) and I weren’t hitting it anymore,” Lerios says. “We really weren’t writing a lot. And what we were writing, we didn’t really like – and nobody else seemed to like it either.

“I had other aspirations and I know Dave did. So, we split. We didn’t necessarily break up the band. We just went different directions.”

Lerios managed a really cool second act in Hollywood, scoring films and TV shows. In that realm, his credits include the 1993 Wesley Snipes action flick “Boiling Point,” the awesome 1991 horror epic “Child’s Play 3” and, most famously, “Baywatch.”

Jenkins also experienced a good deal of post-Pablo success, including spending a few years in the country group Southern Pacific and recording with Hawaiian vocalist Kapono Beamer.

About 20 years ago, Lerios and Jenkins decided to give Pablo Cruise another shot and they’ve been peddling the soft rock to eager crowds ever since. Yet, it’s not just the old-school fans who are showing up. Pablo Cruise — which now consists of Lerios, Jenkins, bassist Larry Antonino, drummer Sergio Gonzalez and percussionist Robbie Wyckoff — is also seeing a healthy contingent of younger listeners.

“One of my jokes is that ‘you are too young to be here,’” Lerios says. “Kids come up and say, ‘My parents played this music in the house all the time. I love it. Big fan.’

“You know, music — even though we try to compartmentalize it and try to give it a decade or a whatever – good music is good music.”

80s rock legend face-plants during New Jersey concert

Mötley Crüe kicked off their tour in Atlantic City on Friday night with frontman Vince Neil taking a fall onstage.

The ‘80s rock icons were only a few songs into their set and performing the song “Wild Side” when Neil, 63, began skipping back and forth from one side of the stage to the other until he tripped, sending him face first on the stage’s floor.

Several videos shared by fans on Facebook and YouTube show the moment the fall happened.

Fortunately, he wasn’t seriously injured. He got back up quickly and began singing to “Wild Side” as soon as he was back up.

Neil is no stranger to onstage accidents. Back in 2021, on his solo tour, he fell off stage. The show was cut short and Neil was rushed to the hospital where he reportedly suffered a few broken ribs.

The fall comes weeks after Neil did press ahead of the tour in which he did interviews where he expressed his thoughts on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and how he thinks the band will “ probably be dead ” before they get inducted as well as how he still hates the band’s 1997 album “Generation Swine” two decades later.

Neil also wasn’t the only rock star to face-plant onstage this weekend. During Pearl Jam’s tour opener in Vancouver over the weekend, guitarist Mike McCready fell off the stage during the performance of “Porches” though he was not seriously injured and was able to play the rest of the night.
