Shopping cart items, adventure tour operator kumuka collapses.
U.K. Adventure tour operator Kumuka , which has been in the industry since 1983, has ceased trading, leaving customers booked past July 22 in limbo. The company offered over 600 trips globally. According to an article on TNT Magazine , the company released a statement saying, "Passengers travelling after this will need to contact the Travel Compensation Fund and their agent will need to make alternative travel arrangements."
Distressed customers have taken to social media and calling local representatives about whether or not they will be refunded. Various competitive operators have begun offering discounts to the beleaguered consumers, including Tucan Travel and Intrepid Travel .
It is sad to see the closure of a company that we have long respected as a collaborator in building the adventure travel sector. We understand that this is a distressing time for Kumuka staff and our thoughts are with them. It is also distressing for travellers who have paid for airfares and got time off work to take a dream trip. We hope that we can help them to still enjoy an amazing adventure.

Shock cartel claim in surfers’ murders
One Bonza plane takes flight
Wild life of alleged surfer killer’s girlfriend
CEO Oz Ozbuluter said tours up to and including this Sunday were funded and would operate. "Passengers travelling after this will need to contact the Travel Compensation Fund and their agent will need to make alternative travel arrangements," the company said in a statement. Kumuka began in 1983 and operates tours to Africa, Asia, Australasia, Antarctica, North America, Latin America and Europe. Its name means "awakenings'' or "the beginning of a journey''. Trips with the company were given as prizes to housemates in past series of the television reality program Big Brother when they were evicted. Travel Compensation Fund chief executive Glen Wells said he had had about a dozen calls from "very concerned'' travellers so far. "As long as they have all their travel documents in order they should loge a claim to the TCF and in most cases the consumers will be protected,'' he said. "We don't know the size of the collapse yet. It's a huge company. "Obviously people booked in Australia are booked through the Australian operation.'' Australian Federation of Travel Agents CEO Jayson Westbury said Kumuka was a niche wholesaler. "It was a bit of a surprise to us because they have been really active and out there and happening,'' he said. Intrepid Travel has set-up a hotline for agents and consumers searching for alternative travel options. It has also offered to assist Kumuka passengers by matching the price they paid for their Kumuka trip on equivalent available Intrepid Travel departures, subject to availability. "It is sad to see the closure of a company that we have long respected as a collaborator in building the adventure travel sector,'' Intrepid managing director Geoff Manchester said. "We understand that this is a distressing time for Kumuka staff and our thoughts are with them. It is also distressing for travellers who have paid for airfares and got time off work to take a dream trip.'' People booked on trips with Kumuka can call the Travel Compensation Fund on 1300 658 165 or the Intrepid hotline on 1300 360 887.
An infamous Mexican criminal cartel has made a shocking claim about the alleged killers of two Perth brothers and their American friend, who were killed on a surfing trip in Baja California.
Bonza plane “Bruce” has flown out from the Sunshine Coast for Honolulu, leaving the futures of Shazza, Malc, Sheila and Bazza uncertain.
The girlfriend of one of the alleged killers of two Aussie brothers on a surfing trip in Mexico has flipped on her lover, as details about her past emerge.

Kumuka Worldwide collapses
Clients that have lost money from the collapse of Kumuka Worldwide have been advised to lodge claims with the Travel Compensation Fund as the adventure travel firm goes into administration.
Kumuka has confirmed that tours up to July 22 will still operate, but those with bookings beyond this date have been advised to contact the TCF. Agents have been advised to make alternative arrangements for their affected clients.
Meanwhile, Intrepid Travel has set up a hotline for agents and consumers searching for alternative travel options. The firm will match the price paid by Kumuka passengers for an equivalent available Intrepid tour.
"It is sad to see the closure of a company that we have long respected as a collaborator in building the adventure travel sector," Interpid Travel managing director Geoff Manchester said.
Elsewhere, the Africa Safari Company has also jumped in to offer its services to clients in need of travel solutions.
The firm works with Jenman Safaris, Kiboko Safaris, Drifters Adventures and Karibu Safari.

Overland adventures, small group & specialist tours in Africa & The Middle East
Kumuka is an African word meaning "the start of a journey" or "a moment of awakening". Kumuka Worldwide are leading specialists in Adventure travel and have been successfully operating exciting tours for the adventurous traveller for more than 26 years. Since our very first Trans-African trip, we have been focused on providing our travellers with authentic and stimulating experiences of the destinations they travel to, whilst enjoying the value, quality and reliability we pride ourselves on consistently delivering.
Choose from a wide range of Overland Adventure camping tours in Africa and the Middle East. There is also a great selection of specialist and lodge based tours.
Small groups - less is more When you travel on an overland tour with Kumuka either in Africa or the Middle East, you will be travelling with no more than 20 fellow travellers. Driving days can sometimes be quite arduous and with trips varying in duration from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, you will appreciate the extra comfort and space on the truck that a smaller group offers. It is also part of Kumuka's commitment to responsible tourism – fewer travellers tread lightly.
Professional tour leaders and drivers In Africa and the Middle East, Kumuka tours are run by a combination of local and international guides, drivers, cooks and tour leaders, who share a deep love of the region and excellent knowledge of the history, culture and wildlife of this fascinating part of the world.
Is there an age limit? Overland tours require a minimum age of 18 with a recommended upper age limit of 55. The nature of the transport (in trucks) & accommodation (in tents) can get a bit much the older you are. If you're looking for a more comfortable holiday, consider one of Kumuka's specialist tours or lodge based safaris. A typical Kumuka group will have a mix of single travellers, couples and friends.
Middle East holidays Kumuka operates tours throughout the Middle East. Overland tours and Small Group Tours are available throughout Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Syria, as well as Family Adventures. Take an Anzac tour in Turkey, cruise the Nile in Egypt or camp under the stars in the Western Desert. Visit the Pyramids and ancient tombs, browse bustling markets, ride camels and explore ancient cities.
