The Best USB-C Laptop and Tablet Chargers

Our four picks for best USB-C laptop and tablet chargers, placed next to a laptop that is being charged with a USB-C cable.

By Sarah Witman

Sarah Witman is a writer focused on batteries and charging accessories. She has spent countless hours charging, discharging, and recharging batteries.

Buying a new laptop charger was once an arduous and expensive ordeal, but computers with USB-C charging have made it much easier and more affordable.

The best choice for almost any modern tablet or laptop is Nekteck’s 60W USB-C GaN Charger . This adapter is just as powerful and reliable as a replacement from your laptop’s manufacturer, and it’s smaller than almost any other we’ve seen. It’s safety-tested and certified, and it comes with its own USB-C charging cable, making it a particularly great value at its very low price.

Everything we recommend

travel charger macbook pro

Nekteck 60W USB-C GaN Charger

Best replacement usb-c laptop or tablet charger.

This compact charger can power almost any USB-C laptop at top speed, and it works great for lower-powered devices, too. Despite its affordable price, it even includes a cable.

Buying Options

travel charger macbook pro

ZMI zPower Turbo 65W USB-C PD Wall Charger

The next-best option for most laptops and tablets.

This charger is about the same size as our top pick and charges just as quickly, but it’s not independently certified for safety and performance.

travel charger macbook pro

Nekteck 100W PD 3.0 GaN Wall Charger

Best for most high-powered laptops.

This model has all the power of the charger included with a 15- or 16-inch MacBook Pro but is smaller and costs much less. The included cable is removable and replaceable, in case it gets damaged.

travel charger macbook pro

Insignia 140W Dual Port USB-C Compact Wall Charger

Best for a 16-inch macbook pro (2021 or later).

With more power from one port than most models we’ve tested, this compact charger has two USB-C PD ports capable of delivering 140 W apiece or 145 W total. It’s pricey, but it comes with a long, 8-foot cable.

Whether you need to replace your original charger or you just want to have an extra at home or the office, you should get the Nekteck 60W USB-C GaN Charger . It will charge almost any laptop 13 inches or smaller at full speed, and it can fast-charge most lower-powered laptops, tablets, and phones, as well.

The Nekteck is smaller and lighter than just about any other laptop or tablet charger we’ve found, it has a convenient fold-up plug, and it comes with a detachable cable, which is something that usually costs $10 to $20 on its own .

This charger is cheaper than many less powerful models, and like most of Nekteck’s products, it’s certified by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), which means an independent third party has tested it and ensured it meets performance and safety specifications.

Port 1: 60 W USB-C Dimensions: 1.97 by 1.97 by 1.2 inches USB-C cable: 6.5 feet, detachable

Nekteck makes the best all-around charger we’ve tested, but if it’s out of stock (or if the price jumps to over $30), we recommend grabbing ZMI’s zPower Turbo 65W USB-C PD Wall Charger instead.

The ZMI has plenty of power for most laptops and any tablet, and like the Nekteck charger, it comes with a sturdy cable. The main reason it’s not our top pick is that the ZMI charger isn’t USB-IF certified. While that’s not a dealbreaker altogether, we think it’s worth a few more dollars to get the Nekteck charger.

Port 1: 65 W USB-C Dimensions: 1.97 by 1.97 by 1.1 inches USB-C cable: 4.9 feet, detachable

Almost all computers that charge via USB-C have a maximum charge speed of 60 watts, but a handful can charge even faster with more power—most notably, the MacBook Air (2022 or later) reaches its peak charging speed at 67 W, the 15-inch MacBook Pro (2019) at 87 W, and both the 14-inch MacBook Pro (2021 or later) and 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019) at 96 W. For these laptops, we recommend Nekteck’s 100W PD 3.0 GaN Wall Charger .

This 100 W charger, which is notably smaller than Apple’s own charger , comes with a detachable USB-C charge cable and costs less than half the price of what a full replacement set would cost from Apple. Like our 60 W top pick, it’s independently tested and certified for safety.

Port 1: 100 W USB-C Dimensions: 2.7 by 2.7 by 1.2 inches USB-C cable: 6.5 feet, detachable

If you have a laptop that requires more than 100 W (such as a 16-inch MacBook Pro from 2021 or later), or if you’d like to fast-charge two smaller devices simultaneously, the Insignia 140W Dual Port USB-C Compact Wall Charger is your best bet.

Its two USB-C ports can deliver up to 140 W apiece or 145 W total, and it’s small and light (weighing just 10 ounces), given its high output.

Like our other picks, the Insignia has a handy fold-up plug, it’s USB-IF certified, and it comes with a cable. Not only is the 8-foot-long cable longer than that of the rest of the bunch, but it’s more powerful—capable of passing up to 240 W—and adds premium features like a woven-nylon sheath and an attached hook-and-loop cable tie.

Port 1: 140 W USB-C Port 2: 140 W USB-C Dimensions: 3.3 by 2.8 by 1.3 inches USB-C cable: 8 feet, detachable

The research

Why you should trust us, who this is for, how we picked and tested, our pick: nekteck 60w usb-c gan charger, runner-up: zmi zpower turbo 65w usb-c pd wall charger, also great: nekteck 100w pd 3.0 gan wall charger, also great: insignia 140w dual port usb-c compact wall charger, other good usb-c laptop chargers, what to look forward to, the competition.

I’ve been a science journalist for more than seven years, covering a wide variety of topics from particle physics to satellite remote sensing. Since joining Wirecutter in 2017, I’ve reported on power banks for phones and tablets , portable laptop chargers with USB-C ports and/or AC outlets , USB-C cables and adapters , and more. I spent nine hours researching and 26 hours testing USB-C laptop and tablet chargers for this guide alone.

The current iteration of this guide builds on extensive research and testing conducted by Nick Guy, who has covered power accessories since 2011 and reviewed them for Wirecutter for over six years.

This guide covers chargers for laptops that get power via a USB-C connection, specifically those that use USB Power Delivery (USB PD), a technology that lets USB-C transmit the high power required to charge a laptop. Most modern laptops—from super-slim ultrabooks to heavy-duty laptops designed for gaming, video editing, or working with lots of data—charge using USB-C.

With USB-C now nearly ubiquitous across phones, tablets, laptops, and more, you no longer have to rely on your device’s manufacturer to be the only source of a safe charger. Every computer comes with a charger, but you might still need or want another, whether to avoid carrying it to and from work or because you need to replace a broken one.

Charger speeds of popular notebook computers and tablets

Some tablets that charge via USB-C come with underpowered chargers, so our picks will allow you to charge them much faster. For example, the 20 W charger that comes with the largest iPad Pro will charge its battery to 18% after 30 minutes and 35% in an hour, while a 30 W or faster charger provides a 33% charge in half an hour and 65% in one hour.

Five different USB-C chargers stacked one on top of the other.

We pored over the USB charging catalogs from a wide range of reputable brands to find the best competitors. From there, we whittled down the list based on the following criteria:

  • USB-C ports with 30 W or higher output: Since many laptops charge at 45 W or higher, that’s the minimum we initially considered for the chargers we tested. Anything lower than that will still charge these devices, but won’t do so at the maximum rate. We also tested 60 W and 87-to-100 W chargers, which are capable of charging more powerful computers faster. For our most recent update, we tested five 30 W chargers to find a smaller alternative that can still charge the MacBook Air and some Chromebooks at their highest speeds.
  • USB-A ports with 12 W or QuickCharge 3.0 output (if applicable): Many USB-C chargers also include a USB-A port for legacy devices. USB-A charging maxes out at 12 W (5 volts, 2.4 amps) for Apple devices and many Android phones, while some of the latter can charge faster with Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3.0 standard. We considered only chargers capable of this maximum output level.
  • Power-to-dollar value: We considered the price of the charger relative to the total power it can deliver across its ports, ruling out models that were more expensive but didn’t offer a higher power output or extra features.
  • USB-IF certification: Although we didn’t require it, certification by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) helps bolster the credentials of a charger, signaling that it’s well made and safe, and that the company behind it has invested in its own reputation. Given two identical chargers, we’d choose the one with the certification.

To find the top options in each category, we put the finalists through a number of tests.

  • USB-C ports: We used Total Phase’s USB Power Delivery Analyzer and its Data Center Software to measure and record the power rates the chargers made available to connected devices, the actual power output observed when connected, how those compared with the advertised figure, and whether there were any errors in how the charger and device talked to each other.
  • USB-A ports: We tested how much power each USB-A port can provide. To do this, we plugged in a variable power load and an ammeter, which allowed us to finely control the power flow. We started with the power load set to 0 amps, then turned it up until it matched the promised amperage, ensuring the voltage stayed within 4.75 volts to 5.25 volts.
  • Combined power output: After assessing each port, we tested the combined output when all of them were in use by devices that take a lot of power.
  • USB-C cable testing: For the chargers that came with a USB-C cable, we used Total Phase’s Advanced Cable Tester to make sure the cable was safe and worked as labeled. Nonstandard cables have been known to cause problems, including sometimes destroying the devices they’re meant to charge . We won’t recommend a charger that comes with a cable that fails our tests.

Our pick for the best replacement USB-C laptop or tablet charger, the Nekteck 60W USB-C GaN Charger.

Nekteck’s 60W USB-C GaN Charger is the best charger you can buy if you need a replacement for almost any modern laptop with a 13-inch (or smaller) screen that charges via USB-C. It’s also a great option for the iPad Pro.

It will charge your device fast, it’s small, and it’s safe, since it’s one of the few chargers (especially at its price) to be certified by the USB-IF. It’s also quite affordable—a fraction of what you’d pay Apple for a replacement—even though it includes a 6.5-foot, 60 W USB-C cable in the box.

It delivers the power it promises. The Nekteck offers enough power for almost any 13-inch laptop, including the more power-hungry 13-inch MacBook Pro.

USB-C charging is standardized into different power levels, and the most common ones used with computers and tablets are 45 W (15 volts, 3 amps) and 60 W (20 volts, 3 amps). This charger supports the former but will automatically switch to 15 W, 27 W, and 36 W rates as needed to fast-charge phones and other devices.

When plugged into a 13-inch MacBook Pro, it properly charged at 60 W with 20.4 volts. It passed the Total Phase tests , as expected.

The Apple 61W Charger next to the Nekteck 60W USB-C GaN Charger to show the difference in size.

It’s a bargain compared to first-party chargers. The 60W USB-C GaN Charger has often been on sale, sometimes for well under $20. Even at its historical high price of $29 (as of this writing), it still costs only a third of what Apple charges for its comparable charger and cable .

It’s such a strong value that we don’t think you should buy a lower-powered charger even if your device requires only 45 W; those slower chargers aren’t any cheaper, and the 60 W option will potentially be more useful in the future.

It comes with a great cable. It may even be worth it to buy the charger if you simply need a new cable—it comes with a great one, and the price isn’t much higher than buying one separately. USB-C charging cables have come down in price alongside USB-C chargers themselves, but good ones still normally cost $10 to $15.

The one caveat here is that the included cable supports only 60 W charging, so don’t expect to get full speed if you use it with more powerful chargers.

It’s USB-IF certified for peace of mind. Nekteck is one of the few companies with USB-IF certification across its entire product line. That means an independent lab has verified that it meets an industry-standard set of criteria for safety and performance.

Since we test all of our recommendations ourselves, we don’t rely exclusively on USB-IF certification to make a pick. But that stamp of approval on the company’s designs and adherence to USB-C standards gives the Nekteck charger another advantage over the competition.

Close up of a Nekteck charger connected with a cable to a laptop port.

It’s tiny and lightweight. The Nekteck charger is nearly the smallest USB laptop charger we’ve tested at this power level, just a hair bigger than the ZMI zPower Turbo 65W USB-C PD Wall Charger . Measuring 1.97 by 1.97 by 1.2 inches, it has a volume that’s about half that of Apple’s 61W USB-C Power Adapter , and it’s small enough to throw in a computer bag or a jacket pocket. Folding prongs make it that much more compact.

It comes with a solid warranty and reliable support. Nekteck’s standard warranty period is 12 months, which is plenty of time to use your charger and ensure it’s working properly. We’ve found the customer support to be helpful, both in terms of response speed and addressing our concerns.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

If you want a charger that comes in an Apple-y white or adds a pop of color to your work setup, you might be disappointed that this model comes only in black.

A ZMI zPower Turbo 65W USB-C PD Wall Charger with usb-c cable connected.

ZMI’s zPower Turbo 65W USB-C PD Wall Charger is the best charger you can buy if our top-pick charger is out of stock, or if it’s significantly cheaper when you’re ready to purchase.

It offers 65 W charging in a relatively compact package about the same size as the Nekteck, and like the Nekteck, it passed our Total Phase tests without any issues. That means it will charge safely and correctly match the power level of whatever you plug it into.

However, it doesn’t have USB-IF certification like the Nekteck charger does. ZMI includes a 5-foot, 100 W USB-C cable in the box, and that cable also passed our tests.

Close up of the ZMI’s single USB-C port.

It provides plenty of power for most laptops and tablets. The ZMI charger properly powered a 13-inch MacBook Pro at 60 W, and it showed the expected results in the Total Phase tests. Although it can provide up to 65 W, the extra 5 W you get compared with our top pick won’t make a big difference, even with more power-hungry devices.

It’s the most compact charger we’ve tested, by a hair. Measuring 1.97 by 1.97 by 1.1 inches, the zPower Turbo is almost identical in size to the Nekteck 60 W charger, and once again, it’s about half the size of Apple’s 61W USB-C Power Adapter . The plain black box won’t turn any heads, but with the contrasting glossy and matte surfaces, it looks nicer than many chargers.

Its included cable is high quality. The 5-foot cable that comes with the ZMI 65 W charger is designed to support up to 100 W charging, which we verified with Total Phase testing. That means you can use it with more power-hungry devices compared with our top pick.

Its warranty is even longer than our top pick’s. The charger and cable combo comes with an 18-month warranty, giving you an additional six months (on top of our other picks’ one-year warranties) to request a replacement if your charger is faulty.

Nekteck’s 100W PD 3.0 GaN Wall Charger connected to a usb-c cable.

Nekteck’s 100W PD 3.0 GaN Wall Charger provides enough power to fast-charge a 2022 or newer MacBook Air, a 2021 or newer 14-inch MacBook Pro, or a 2019 15- or 16-inch MacBook Pro, and it costs less than half the price of Apple’s 96W USB-C Power Adapter. It’s smaller, too.

You can find even smaller high-power-draw chargers, but they’re a lot more expensive than this particularly affordable model. We think it provides a great balance of price, size, and power.

An Apple’s 96W Charger next to a The Nekteck 100W PD 3.0 GaN Wall Charger to show the difference in size.

It has a remarkably svelte design. The square power brick is quite compact: Apple’s charger is 3.2 inches square and just over an inch thick, while Nekteck’s is 2.75 inches square and about 1.2 inches thick.

Both the Apple and Nekteck chargers have fold-out prongs, but the prongs on Nekteck’s charger can’t be removed and replaced with a longer cord as they can on an Apple charger. Like our top and runner-up picks, it comes only in black, but it has a sleek look on the whole.

It’s certified safe and accurate. Like the company’s 60 W charger, the 100 W Nekteck charger is USB-IF certified, meaning an independent lab has verified that it meets a set of criteria for safety and performance.

It has a long cable and warranty. This Nekteck charger includes a 6-foot detachable USB-C cable, adding to the value of the package. And if anything happens to the charger itself, Nekteck provides a 12-month warranty.

Our pick for best USB-C laptop and tablet charger that provides more than a hundred watts, the Insignia 140W Dual Port USB-C Compact Wall Charger.

Few laptops need more than 100 W to charge at top speed, but if you have one that does—like a 16-inch MacBook Pro from 2021 or later, or Dell’s XPS 15 or 17—the Insignia 140W Dual Port USB-C Compact Wall Charger is unparalleled.

It costs about $10 more than Apple’s version at the time of this writing, but it’s just as powerful and compact as that charger, and it has two things the Apple model doesn’t: a second USB-C port and a luxuriously long cable.

It has two powerful ports. Insignia’s charger can pump out up to 145 W total from its two USB-C ports, or up to 140 W from either port. Even if you don’t need the full 140 W for a single device, it’s nice to have some extra power to split between two devices—say, to fast-charge a MacBook Air and an iPad Pro simultaneously.

It’s small, lightweight, and sleek-looking. Like Apple’s 140W USB-C Power Adapter, Insignia’s version weighs just 10 ounces, or about as much as a standard volleyball. It’s squarish in shape, measuring 3.3 by 2.8 by 1.3 inches, and has a convenient fold-up plug.

Like our other picks, it comes in only one color—white—but its rounded edges give it a streamlined, sophisticated look.

The Insignia 140W Dual Port USB-C Compact Wall Charger, placed next to Apple's 140W charger. Insignia's charger is smaller and features a second USB-C port.

It’s pricey, but still a good value for what you get. Costing $110 at the time of this writing, the Insignia charger is the most expensive of our picks (by a lot), but it’s also the most powerful of the bunch, and the only one with multiple charging ports.

It comes with a standout cable. At 8 feet, the removable cable that comes with the Insignia charger is longer than those included with our other picks, and since it’s capable of passing up to 240 W, you can use it with even more powerful devices (few such devices currently exist, but it’s still a nice feature to future-proof your purchase).

The cable is covered in an extra-rugged fabric sheath, and an attached hook-and-loop cable tie helps keep it neatly coiled in your bag.

It’s been cleared by an independent third party. Like all of our picks, this cable is USB-IF certified, ensuring that it meets performance and safety specifications.

It’s backed by a solid warranty and reliable support. This charger-and-cable combo has a one-year warranty, giving you ample time to confirm it’s working properly. Insignia is Best Buy’s in-house electronics brand, and we’ve found the customer support to be helpful and responsive.

If you have a high-powered laptop and frequently travel internationally: Get the HyperJuice 140W PD 3.1 USB-C GaN Charger . It has a 30 W USB-A port, a 100 W USB-C port, and a 140 W USB-C port (the maximum output when multiple ports are in use is 140 W). It’s more expensive than any of our picks, and it’s not USB-IF certified. But it’s lightweight, comes with a cable, has a foldable plug, and includes three international plug adapters.

If you want lots of power and ports in a portable package and you don't need a cable: Get the Anker 747 Charger (GaNPrime 150W) . It has three USB-C ports and one USB-A port with a total maximum output of 150 W. It’s small and light, has a foldable plug, and comes with an unusual accessory—a silicone stabilizer that suctions onto the wall outlet to keep the charger from getting bumped or pulled out. It’s on the pricier side, doesn’t come with a cable, and isn’t USB-IF certified, but if it suits your needs even with those trade-offs, it’s still a great charger.

If you want a charger with three USB-C ports and a super low profile: Get the Belkin Boost Charge 3 Port USB-C Wall Charger with PPS 67W (WCC002dqWH) . It weighs just 3.4 ounces, has a foldable plug, and only juts out about an inch when plugged into a wall outlet. Each of its three USB-C ports has a maximum output of 67 W, or a combined output of 65 W when all three ports are in use. However, it lacks USB-A ports and isn’t USB-IF certified.

Several new models were announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2024, and we plan to test them against our current picks as soon as they become available:

  • Baseus announced the GaN5 Pro Desktop 240W Fast Charger , which it says has a rated maximum output of 240 W (from a single port or split between five ports) and the ability to control your charging preferences remotely via an app.
  • Hyper announced the HyperJuice 100W USB-C GaN Global Charger and HyperJuice 70W Travel Charger with Adapters . The former has a rated maximum output of 100 W, which it splits between three USB-C ports and a USB-A port, and the latter splits 70 W between two USB-C ports and a USB-A port. Both chargers have folding plugs and seem relatively compact.
  • Scosche announced the PowerVolt PD150 , which has a rated maximum output of 150 W that it splits between four USB-C ports.

We also plan to test the following models this spring:

  • Anker Prime 240W 4-Port GaN Desktop Charger (A2342)
  • Belkin BoostCharge Pro 140W 4-Port GaN Wall Charger (WCH014dqWH)
  • Belkin BoostCharge Pro 200W 4-Port USB-C GaN Charger (WCH015dqWH)
  • Nomad Dual Port USB-C 65W Slim Power Adapter
  • Satechi 145W USB-C 4-Port GaN Travel Charger
  • Ugreen Nexode 140W 3-Port USB-C GaN Wall Charger
  • Ugreen Nexode 200W 6-Port USB-C GaN Desktop Charger
  • Ugreen Nexode 300W 5-Port USB-C GaN Desktop Charger

This is not a comprehensive list of all USB-C laptop and tablet chargers we’ve tested. We have removed any models that have been discontinued or that no longer meet our requirements.

Single-port chargers

The Anker 313 Charger (Ace, 45W) offers less power for the size and price compared to most of our picks, and unlike those models, it doesn’t include a cable.

The Anker 717 Charger (140W) performed well in our testing, but unlike our 140 W Insignia pick , it has just one USB-C port, it’s not USB-IF certified, and at this writing it has a fairly low rating (3.3 stars) on Amazon.

The RAVPower 61W GaN Tech Wall Charger is one of the smallest chargers we tested, at 2 by 2 inches and just over an inch thick, but it doesn’t come with a cable.

The following single-port models offer less power for the size and/or price than otherwise comparable models:

  • Anker 713 Charger (Nano II 45W)
  • Anker 715 Charger (Nano II 65W)
  • Apple 96W USB-C Power Adapter
  • Apple 140W USB-C Power Adapter
  • Invzi GaNHub 33W USB-C GaN Charger
  • Satechi 100W USB-C PD Wall Charger
  • Scosche PowerVolt PD60
  • ZMI zPower 33W USB-C Wall Charger

Multiport chargers

The Amazon Basics 100W Four-Port GaN Wall Charger has two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, and it offers lots of power for the price, but newer multiport options are available that are smaller and lighter and/or come with a cable.

The Anker 737 Charger (GaNPrime 120W) offers a lot of power for its size, and it comes with a handy silicone stabilizer to keep it suctioned securely onto the outlet’s faceplate. However, its oblong shape makes it jut out awkwardly from the wall, it’s not USB-IF certified, and it’s pricier than otherwise comparable models.

The Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter has a super-low profile, and we like that its ports face the floor when it’s plugged in so your cords stay parallel to the wall, saving even more space. However, it doesn’t offer much power for the size and price (the same is true of the standard-sized Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter ).

The Baseus GaN2 4 Ports Fast Charger 100W has a foldable plug, comes with a cable, and it’s one of just a few options with two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports. However, it’s not USB-IF certified, and it offers less power for the size and price than most of our picks.

The HyperJuice 245W GaN Desktop Charger has the highest total output of any charger we’ve tested, though it splits that power among four USB-C ports. Given its peak power, it’s a good size and price, and it comes with an AC extension cable so your ports are always within reach. However, it’s not USB-IF certified, and at 1.2 pounds it’s one of the heaviest models we tested.

The Nekteck 107W USB C Charger (GaN Tech) splits its total wattage between two USB-C ports (one maxes out at 65 W, and the other at 30 W) as well as two USB-A ports, which is less power than we’d recommend for most people’s desks.

The RAVPower 65W GaN Tech Wall Charger (RP-PC145) offers a combined output of 65 W from its two USB-C ports; each can put out that much power when used individually, or they can split it. However, otherwise comparable models have more ports.

The RAVPower 65W GaN Tech Wall Charger (RP-PC133) and RAVPower PD Pioneer 61W 2-Port USB C Wall Charger are good values for what they are, but other options with a similar size, price, and wattage offer more than one USB-C port.

The RAVPower 90W GaN Tech Wall Charger is a former upgrade pick, but otherwise comparable models are more powerful, have more ports, and/or are about the same size.

The Satechi 75W Dual Type-C PD Travel Charger has two USB-C ports, offering 60 W from one port and 18 W from the other, plus two USB-A ports with a combined 12 W output. But it’s an expensive charger, and in our testing neither USB-A port supported that full 12 W on its own, even when nothing else was plugged in. The 108 W version is essentially the same charger, and suffers from the same issues, except it has a 90 W port in place of the 60 W port.

The Ugreen Nexode 100W USB C GaN Charger-4 Ports Wall Charger , and a similar 65 W version , both triggered error messages in our testing software. Also, several customer reviews for each model note that the chargers often reset while charging, rather than delivering a consistent flow of power.

The ZMI zPower Trio 65W Desktop Charger is too low-powered for a desktop charger (its combined output is only 65 W), despite its small size and low price.

We also tested the following multiport models but ultimately dismissed them since otherwise comparable models offer more power for the size, more power for the price, USB-IF certification, a foldable plug, and/or a more packable shape:

  • Anker 324 Charger (40W)
  • Anker 521 Charger (Nano Pro)
  • Anker 726 Charger (Nano II 65W)

Best MacBook chargers in 2024

Power up your portable workstation with these phenomenal MacBook chargers.

MacBook Pro 2019 and Apple charger

If you own a MacBook, you need a MacBook charger — there’s no question there. While a charger always comes with the purchase of a new MacBook, you might be looking for a secondary, replacement, or more cost-effective option. The best MacBook chargers come in different sizes, with different ports and power outputs, at various price points, and the best one for you depends on what kind of MacBook you have. Whether you’re looking for a MagSafe or USB-C charger, these are the best MacBook chargers available right now. If you're on the move regularly and away from power, consider one of the best USB-C portable power chargers as a valid alternative.

What's the best charger for your MacBook?

You can always trust iMore. Our team of Apple experts have years of experience testing all kinds of tech and gadgets, so you can be sure our recommendations and criticisms are accurate and helpful. Find out more about how we test.

If you’re in the market for a new charger, you’ll first want to identify your machine and its charging needs. There are three things to consider: One, what kind of MacBook do you have? Two, what wattage does it need? And three, what charging connector does it use?

If you’ve got a new MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022) , MacBook Air (M2, 2022), or MacBook Pro (2021), you know that MagSafe charging has made a comeback. Apple fans are thrilled that the MagSafe 3 cable comes separate from the power adapter , unlike the older Apple MagSafe 1 and 2 connectors. The latest MacBooks can also be powered with a USB-C power adapter and USB-C to USB-C cable for fast charging.

That said — keep in mind that adapters and cables are primarily sold separately. So, if you’re in the market for a brand-new charger, you’re going to need to purchase both. The great thing about these two components being sold separately is that they will cost less if you only need to replace one or the other.

Whether you’re trying to juice up your brand-new MacBook Pro (M2, 2022) or need a replacement charger for your MacBook Air (2021) , here’s what your MacBook needs in terms of power.

For MacBook Air

If you own a new MacBook Air (M2, 2022), it can use a 30W USB-C power adapter, 35W Dual USB-C port power adapter, or 67W USB-C power adapter to a MagSafe 3 Cable. If you own a MacBook Air model introduced in 2018 or later, you’re looking for a 30W USB-C power adapter to USB-C charging cable. For MacBook Air models introduced in 2012 through 2017, you’ll need a 45W MagSafe Power Adapter with MagSafe 2 style connector.

For MacBook Pro

If you’ve got a MacBook Pro, size matters when it comes to wattage, and models matter when it comes to charging cables.

13-inch: For the new MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022), a 67W USB-C power adapter and a USB-C to MagSafe 3 or USB-C charge cable fits the bill. A 13-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2016 or later requires a 61W USB-C power adapter and USB-C charging cable, while 13-inch Macbook Pro models introduced in 2012 through 2015 need 60W power adapters with MagSafe 2 style connectors.

14-inch: For a 14-inch MacBook Pro (2021), you’ll need a 96W USB-C power adapter and USB-C to MagSafe 3 or USB-C cable.

15-inch: 15-inch MacBook Pro models introduced in 2016 or later need 87W USB-C power adapters and USB-C charging cables. 15-inch MacBook Pro models introduced in 2012 through 2015 use 85W power adapters with MagSafe 2 style connectors.

16-inch: For a 16-inch Macbook Pro (2021), you’ll need a 140W USB-C power adapter and a USB-C to MagSafe 3 or USB-C cable. A 16-inch Macbook Pro (2019) needs a 96W USB-C power adapter to USB-C charge cable.

This charger features four ports: two 100-watt USB-C, one 20-watt USB-C, and one 18-watt USB-A. It uses GaN technology which can pack more power into smaller spaces. The result is a compact, powerful charger, that’s roughly the size of your Apple AirPods Pro case.

It features one USB-C port and can pair with either a USB-C to MagSafe 3 or USB-C to USB-C charging cable. It’s large and bulky, but it’s got the power you need to fast charge your MacBook Pro from 0 to 50% in 30 minutes.

If you’re charging a single device, 70 watts of power can be directed to a single port. If you’re charging two devices at once, your MacBook will receive up to 50 watts and your iOS device can receive up to 20 watts at the same time.

It uses GaN technology. Gallium nitrade (GaN) is a high-performance and efficient alternative to the traditional silicon used in charging devices. GaN technology produces less heat and allows for more power in a compact design.

Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter

When charging two devices, Nomad’s ProCharge power philosophy automatically reroutes power to both ports: 45 watts of power to the top port can fast charge an M1 MacBook, while 20W to the bottom port can fast charge an iPhone.

It’s small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and roughly the size of an Apple AirPods case. It’s built with GaN technology for less heat and features flip-out prongs. The size and power delivery on this charger makes it an ideal traveling companion.

Highsay 130W USB-C Multi-port GaN Fast Charger

Highsay 130W USB-C Multi-port GaN Fast Charger

It features four ports: three USB-C and one USB-A and offers up to 100 watts to charge a single device or up to 130 watts to charge four devices simultaneously. If you’re charging four devices at once, this charger will automatically distribute the charging power required for each device. This 130-watt charger delivers the necessary juice for all USB-C compatible MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs. Plus, the less expensive price tag for a charger in this category make it an excellent value.

Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Charger

Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Charger

Bottom line: If you’re looking for a secondary or replacement charger for your 15-inch MacBook Pro, you can’t go wrong with the Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Charger. This power adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if you or someone around you trips over it, it immediately disconnects from your MacBook, so that it stays safely put.

This design helps prevent fraying or damaged cables over time, making it extra durable. The magnetic connector helps guide the plug into your laptop for a quick and secure connection. It has LED battery indicators that turn amber while your MacBook charges and green when it’s fully charged.

In this case, the charger is connected to the charging cable for one charging unit. You can wind the cable around the charger for convenient and compact portability.

Best charging cables

Apple USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m)

Apple USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2m)

Bottom line: If you’ve got a new MacBook and want a MagSafe 3 charging cable right now, the Apple USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable is really your only option. This two-meter charge cable features a MagSafe 3 connector that gently but firmly secures the plug to the charging port of your compatible MacBook.

The magnetic connection is nice because it’s strong enough to resist most unintended disconnects, but if your cable gets abruptly ripped out, it releases so your MacBook stays safely put. An LED light on top indicates battery level — turning amber when charging, and green when fully charged.

Unlike the standard Apple charging cables, this one comes in four different colors: space gray, silver, midnight, and starlight. It features a durable, woven design, and will work with any USB-C compatible power adapter.

Anker Nylon USB-C Charger Cable (6 feet, 2 pack)

Anker Nylon USB-C Charger Cable (6 feet, 2 pack)

Bottom line: This two-pack by Anker features two six-foot, nylon, USB-C to USB-C charging cables. They’ll work with any USB-C compatible adapter. Currently, they’re available on Amazon with a deal that gets you two chargers for close to half the price of one Apple USB-C charging cable, making these an excellent value.

They support a power delivery of up to 60W, making them ideal for any MacBook Air model introduced in 2018 or later, or the 13-inch MacBook Pro. These cables come in three different colors: black, silver, and red. Plus, the extra-long length gives you plenty of wiggle room to suit most work environments.

JSAUX 100W 10ft USB-C Charging Cord

JSAUX 100W 10ft USB-C Charging Cord

It features a premium, nylon, braided cord and is outfitted with power delivery 4.0/3.0 and QC fast charging technology. It supports up to a 100W output, so you can fast charge your MacBook up to 50% in 35 minutes. Its built-in E-Mark chip auto-adjusts power delivery, so your device only gets as much as it needs.

Apple USB-C Charge Cable (2 m)

Apple USB-C Charge Cable (2m)

Bottom line: The flagship Apple USB-C cable is a good value and essentially universal; it works for most MacBooks — older to new. We like the two-meter length because having extra cable never hurts.

This charging cable features USB-C connectors on both ends and is ideal for charging, syncing, and transferring data. USB-C connections are known for their fast-charging capabilities. Paired with the right USB-C power adapter, you could charge your MacBook up to 50% in half an hour.

AGVEE USB-C to MagSafe 2 (T-Tip) Charging Cable

AGVEE USB-C to MagSafe 2 (T-Tip) Charging Cable

Bottom line: The AGVEE USB-C to MagSafe 2 features the T-tip needed to power your 13-inch MacBook Pro 2013 through 2015 and MacBook Air 2013 and 2014. It features a 60-watt output and 10 feet of length for ample wiggle room.

How to pick a charger for your machine

Finding which out which Mac model you have.

To pick the right charger for your MacBook, you must know what model you have, what power wattage it needs, and what connectors it uses.

The easiest way to find out what model you have is by clicking the Apple menu icon in the upper lefthand corner of your Mac's screen. Click it, and go to About This Mac. It will display the model so can choose a charger based on the appropriate power needs for your Mac (all MacBook power requirements are listed above).

Another method is through the System Information app.

If your Mac won't power up, find the serial number on the underside of your laptop, then enter your serial number on the Tech Specs page. All of the information you need pertaining to your model will pop up.

Which charger is for you?

That solely depends on the model of MacBook you have and what its charging needs are. All MacBook models require different wattages, so it's essential that you know what kind of MacBook model you have.

The best chargers for your MacBook are the ones designed by Apple for Apple, so the Apple 35W dual-port/67W/96W/140W USB-C power adapters paired with the Apple USB-C to MagSafe 3 or USB-C to USB-C charging cables are the best overall.

However, there are some excellent third-party options on here like the Belkin BOOST Charge Pro 70W Dual USB-C Wall Charger and the Highsay 130W USB-C Multi-port GaN Fast Charger. With more ports and less expensive price tags, they deliver more bang for your buck.

If you're looking for a charger for your older 15-inch MacBook Pro, the Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Charger is your best bet.

If you need a new charger for your older 13-inch MacBook Pro, the AGVEE USB-C to MagSafe 2 (T-Tip) Charging Cable paired with the MINIX 66W Turbo 3-port GaN Wall Charger is our top pick as an Apple alternative.

Keep in mind that you can safely use a charger with a higher wattage than your laptop requires; it won’t overcharge your MacBook. Plus, that additional power can go to charging a second device like your best iPhone , Apple Watch , or AirPods. We don’t recommend using a charger with a lower wattage than your laptop requires as it won’t sufficiently charge your device, could damage your laptop, overheat, and potentially catch fire.

The products on this list are the best MacBook chargers available right now — thoroughly researched and approved. We've got single-port, dual-port, three-port, and four-port chargers with the necessary wattages and delivery systems to charge any MacBook Pro or MacBook Air model: old to new.

Where charging comes to life

How to Choose the Best Charger Wattage for Your MacBook Pro

travel charger macbook pro

While Apple provides a USB-C power adapter for all its MacBooks, having a spare charger is a great idea. You don’t have to sit and wait for your device to charge to start using it. There are many premium chargers from trusted brands that are more affordable than Apple’s pricey chargers, and RAVPower has some of the best.

But before you buy a charger for your MacBook Pro, it’s important to understand wattage requirements. MacBooks have different power requirements, and getting the right charger will ensure you maximize battery life.

Charger Wattage Requirements for Different MacBooks

Larger MacBooks often need more powerful chargers to fill up their batteries at top speeds.

Understanding Charger Wattage

Electrical power is measured in watts (W), which is the rate of energy transfer. A charger with more watts has faster charging and multi-device charging capabilities. But it’s worth noting that a high-wattage charger won’t necessarily make your Mac charge faster. For example, if your MacBook is designed to use a 45W charger, it won’t draw more than 45W if you use a 100W charger.

If a charger’s wattage isn’t indicated, use this calculation: Watts = Volts x Amps. When you know the wattage, you can make an informed decision and buy the right charger for your MacBook.

What is Fast Charging?

Fast charging requires three things:

  • A device capable of fast charging
  • Knowledge of the maximum charging speed of your device(s)
  • The correct power source

To make devices charge faster, most manufacturers either vary a charger’s voltage or boost the amperage to increase the potential energy. Standard USB 3.0 ports output 5V/1A for small devices, and most phones are capable of handling 5V/2.4A. For fast charging, manufacturers increase voltage to 9V or 12V and above, and amperage to 3A and above. USB-C supports up to 100W and 20V, making faster charging speeds possible.

Most new MacBook Pro models, introduced in 2021 or later, support fast charging, going from 0% to 50% in around 45 minutes. Confirm if your Mac supports fast charging and the maximum wattage it can handle. Then get a charger that supports the wattage. The maximum charge speed is usually displayed in watts.

How to Choose the Best Charger for Your MacBook

Compatibility: Ensure the   charger you buy is compatible with your MacBook model. Refer to your MacBook’s manual to know its charging requirements. The wattage rating must correspond with your MacBook’s requirements.

Portability: A portable power bank is ideal for travel. It’s lightweight and easy to carry around. You can throw one in your bag as you head out for vacation or business trips.

USB-C or MagSafe: Some older MacBooks use a MagSafe charger, while some newer models use a USB-C charger. Get the right battery pack for your Mac.

Cable length: A longer cable may be better if you typically use your MacBook while it’s charging. But the longer the cable, the more resistance. So don’t get a very long cable as your phone might charge slowly.

Brand reputation: Buy a charger from a reputable brand such as RAVPower. With over 45 million global users, you can be sure you’re buying a high-quality product that’s capable of powering your device efficiently.

The Best RAVPower Chargers for Your MacBook Pro

This 100W wall charger for Macs is compatible with many devices, such as:

This MacBook wall charger supports USB PD 3.0 and PPS to juice up all your USB-C-powered mobile devices. It’s equipped with advanced safety features and comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Choose a MacBook Charger with the Right Wattage

Nothing feels as good as being able to charge your Mac on the go. You don’t have to worry about running out of power on long trips when you’re working remotely. For the best charging experience, use a RAVPower charger that provides the right wattage for your MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, or MacBook.

Meta Description:  If you’re in the market for a MacBook charger, take time to understand charger wattage so you can buy the best.

Best replacement chargers for the MacBook Pro

Need a new charger for your MacBook Pro? These are some of the best options you can get, from Apple to third-party options.

When you spend over $1,000 on a premium laptop like the MacBook Pro , you want to ensure it lasts as long as possible. Of course, accidents do happen, and you can still break or lose your charger, but that's no reason to stop using the laptop. There are plenty of replacement chargers out there, so you can easily get one that works for your MacBook Pro. The first step might be to check which charger your MacBook model needs , if you aren't already sure about that.

Finding a MacBook Pro charger is actually pretty easy because Apple has been using USB Type-C for years now. The vast majority, if not all the best laptops today use USB-C for charging. That means these chargers are everywhere, and there's no shortage of options. The newer models released in 2021 onward also support the new MagSafe 3 charging connector, but you can choose whichever method you prefer to use. Keep in mind that most chargers don't include a cable, so there is some flexibility when making your selection, just make sure to get everything you need when you make your selection.

Apple 70W USB-C Power Adapter

This is the official Apple charger for the MacBook Pro, delivering 70W of power to keep the laptop charged with no worries. It may not be able to charge the more power-hungry models with M3 Max processors, but for the most part, this is a fantastic option.

Apple 140W USB-C Power Adapter

If you have one of the most powerful MacBook Pro models, you're going to need more power than 70W. The official 140W charger is made for those models, delivering all the power your MacBook Pro needs and then some. It can charge any MacBook and other laptops with no issues.

Nekteck 100W GaN USB-C Charger

If you want a powerful charger without the cost of Apple's official offerings, the Nekteck 100W charger may just be for you. At 100W, this charger can handle all the MacBook Pro models with no issues, but it's far cheaper than Apple's chargers, even the 70W model. If you want a cheap backup, this is a great pick.

Anker 715 Charger (Nano II 65W)

Have an entry-level MacBook? This 65W Anker charger can deliver enough power to keep your laptop charged, and its extremely compact size makes it perfect for traveling. For more powerful models, it may have a hard time keeping up while you're using it at full throttle, but it's great otherwise.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 108W GaN 4-port charger

What if you have multiple devices you need to charge? This Belkin charger is very useful in that it offers 108W of power and four ports, so you can charge your laptop along with a phone and even some accessories. Even with all four ports in use, you still get 65W for your laptop, which is a lot of power.

Anker 717 Charger

The Anker 717 is a powerful 140W charger that rivals Apple's official offering in a sleeker package, and it's a particularly great pairing for the darker MacBook Pro models. You can also find it discounted more frequently, making it cheaper than Apple's official charger.

Plugable 16-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 Dock

Charing your laptop is one thing, but the Plugable 16-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station can provide 96W of power to your laptop while also connecting it to a multitude of accessories, making it so you can use your MacBook Pro to power a complex desk setup with multiple monitors and peripherals.

Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter

If you're still rocking a pre-2016 MacBook Pro and you're happy with it, you may just want to get a good old MagSafe charger. As usual, you can't really go wrong with Apple's official adapter, and with 85W of power, it should work for all sizes of MacBook Pro.

Baseus 65W 30,000mAh Power Bank Charger

If you're looking to top up your MacBook on the go, this power bank from Baseus is a great choice thanks to a 30,000mAh battery, PD 3.0, and a convenient LED display. Plus, you also get seven USB ports for some added versatility, too.

Best chargers for MacBook Pro: Bottom line

Oem is ideal, but sometimes certain needs indicate otherwise.

That should give you plenty of options for chargers if you have a MacBook Pro. You have some official, but pricey ones, along with many third-party options that are cheaper or more capable (or both). Arguably, it's always best to go with the official options, but thanks to standards like USB Power Delivery, you should be fine with any of these. The only thing to consider is whether you have one of the higher-end models, specifically the 16-inch versions, which are more power-hungry. For those, you may need a 140W charger, but for everyone else, any of these chargers will do great.

Macs have long been fairly popular among college students, and that's because they're one of the best options for them . You can always check our list of best Macs if you're considering buying one. If you're set on the MacBook Pro, though, you can find the latest model below.

Best USB-C hubs and adapters for Mac 2024

Simon Jary

USB-C is the latest standard of USB that allows data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, can fast-charge devices, and conveniently fits in a port either way up—which means that you can wave bye-bye to the age-old USB guessing game of “Which way does it go in?”.

While some of the newer hubs reviewed here do boast 10Gbps legacy USB-A ports, USB-A is mostly seen in devices at 5Gbps, offers slower charging speeds, and is annoyingly fussy at which way up it is when you try to connect it to a port.

USB-C is no one-trick pony, either—handling data transfer, video output and power input.

You’ll find Type C on the old 12in MacBook, and faster variants of it (called Thunderbolt 3 or 4) on the MacBook Pro (post-2016 models), MacBook Air (post-2018), the iMac (after 2017) and Mac mini (2018 and later).

Thunderbolt Macs can connect to USB-C hubs and docks, but will lose some of their extra bandwidth—Thunderbolt’s 40Gbps significantly outpaces USB-C’s 5-10Gbps. USB4, like Thunderbolt, boasts 40Gbps bandwidth, although note that there is also a 20Gbps version to look out for.

From an Apple user perspective, Thunderbolt 3 and 4 are very similar. Both have 40Gbps bandwidth but TB4 has a few extra benefits; find out more in our Thunderbolt 4 vs Thunderbolt 3 comparison.

If you need super-fast data transfer, read our roundup of the best Thunderbolt 4 hubs .

Few people have a full range of USB-C or Thunderbolt gear, so you’ll likely need a USB-C hub to add different ports—such as old-school USB-A—to your Mac.

In general, an “adapter” works with a single port (such as USB-A or Ethernet) while a “hub” gives you multiple ports. If you require even more, then look for a “dock” or “docking station”.

If you’re after a full desktop setup for your MacBook, look out for our recommendations for the best USB-C and Thunderbolt docking stations for MacBooks .

Apple has a range of adapters, too, but at a (high) price. We have tested them here, but other gadget makers offer more budget-friendly alternatives, along with a range of other USB-C cables, chargers and accessories–and we present the best ones below.

Here we have tested and reviewed the premium USB-C hubs and adapters. There are many much cheaper versions out there, but we recommend these for quality and robustness.

Which extra ports do you need

Many MacBook users connect their laptop to one or more external displays for greater screen space. You can connect to monitors via a USB-C (via adapters to non-USB-C monitors) or better a dedicated video port, such as HDMI or DisplayPort . Check the hub specs to see which displays they support: some are limited to HD displays, others support 4K (also known as UHD) displays. The refresh rate is also important. 4K at 30Hz is fine for most productivity and browsing tasks, but watching video or playing games demands higher refresh rates of at least 60Hz.

You may need some old non-reversible USB-A ports , and most adapters and hubs have at least one for your non-USB-C memory sticks and drives. Look for at least USB 3.0, which has a speedy bandwidth of 5Gbps compared to the lamentably sluggish USB 2.0’s 480Mbps.

To fast-charge an iPhone, you need a minimum of 18W and it has to be USB-C , so look for extra USB-C slots with charging power, which are more capable than USB-A.

Other ports to look for in a hub include Ethernet for faster wired Internet access (without the flakiness of Wi-Fi). You can choose from standard Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps) or 2.5Gb Ethernet (2500Mbps), although the faster Ethernet requires the whole network to support that speed.

An SD or microSD card reader is perfect for adding inexpensive portable storage to your system. Card readers come at different speeds: UHS-I at 104MBps, and UHS-II at 312MBps; although some are slower at 60MBps.

Look for hubs that offer passthrough charging , so you can charge your laptop even though you are using up one of the laptop’s USB-C ports for the hub itself. Most don’t ship with a charger, so you’ll need to add your own, and remember that it needs to be a 100W charger to give 85W and above charging if offered by the hub. Lower wattage chargers are fine but will limit the hub’s charging potential. Couple your hub with one of the best Mac USB-C chargers .

Check the Power Delivery (PD) charging power each hub or adapter offers connected laptops or iPads. 12in MacBook and MacBook Air charge at 30W; the 13in and 14in MacBook Pro at 67W, the 15in MacBook Pro at 87W; and the 16in MacBook Pro at 96W. You can certainly use a charger at lower power, but remember that it will power up slower than when using a higher-wattage charger, and if too low your laptop might run out of juice altogether when maxed out on power-hungry apps and devices.

You can also buy USB-C adapters for the many display standards out there, such as VGA and DVI .

Most of the products tested here work with non-Apple USB-C laptops too, but you can read Tech Advisor’s more general roundup of the best USB-C hubs .

Many hubs and docks aren’t compatible with Apple’s SuperDrive CD/DVD drive. We’ve found only one USB-C dock that is compatible with the SuperDrive, the Caldigit USB-C Pro Dock .

Anker 555 PowerExpand 8-in-1 USB-C Hub – Best overall USB-C hub

Anker 555 PowerExpand 8-in-1 USB-C Hub - Best overall USB-C hub

  • 8 ports inc Ethernet, 60Hz 4K display via HDMI
  • 10Gbps USB-C and USB-A
  • Can get warm during use
  • UHS-I SD reader

The Anker PowerExpand 8-in-1 USB-C Hub is compact and powerful, offering greater specs than some of the other leading options on this list.

It offers two USB-C ports—one that supports 85W USB-C Power Delivery, while another supports data transfers up to 10Gbps. You also get speedy 10Gbps transfer rates through two additional USB-A ports, where many rivals max out at 5Gbps.

The Anker PowerExpand is special as it offers an HDMI port that supports 4K 60Hz resolutions, where most are limited to 4K 30Hz. For 4K 60Hz resolution, your device must support DP 1.4. This includes MacBook Air (from 2020), MacBook Pro 15in (from 2018), MacBook Pro 16in (from 2019) and iPad Pro (from 2018).

Also included are an SD card reader (that can support a microSD card with an adapter). This is rated at UHS-I (104MBps) so not the fastest but speedier than some other hubs tested here offer.

The Gigabit Ethernet port is great for those times when Wi-Fi just won’t do.

It’s also incredibly light at just under 130g and compact so you can take it anywhere. At $79.99/£79.99 it’s hard to deny this hub’s value for money. In our experience, it does get warm with use but Anker says this is normal.

Ugreen 4-in-1 USB 3.0 Hub – Best budget hub for multiple USB-A ports

Ugreen 4-in-1 USB 3.0 Hub - Best budget hub for multiple USB-A ports

  • Inexpensive
  • Four 5Gbps USB-A ports
  • 10W device charger
  • Limited to USB-A ports
  • No passthrough charge to host

If all you need from an adapter is the ability to connect a bunch of older USB-A devices to your MacBook, this simple adapter should do the trick.

The Ugreen USB-C 4-port hub is a slim and inexpensive adapter that allows you to add four full-size USB 3.0 ports that can handle data transfer at up to 5Gbps. It has recently been upgraded to feature a further USB-C port that can supply a 10W charge for connected devices, but not the host computer. While all four ports can be used simultaneously, a maximum of two hard drives can be connected at one time.

It looks the part with most modern MacBooks, and is an easy way to connect memory sticks, a printer or other older devices that don’t come with USB-C.

Satechi Pro Hub Max Adapter – Best 40Gbps USB4 hub for Mac

Satechi Pro Hub Max Adapter - Best 40Gbps USB4 hub for Mac

  • 40Gbps data transfer
  • 7 ports inc 4K 60Hz display HDMI, Ethernet
  • No device charging from USB-A and USB-C ports

All of the portable USB-C hubs reviewed here are compatible with the Mac’s Thunderbolt 3 and 4 ports, but most feature slower USB-C connections (5Gbps or 10Gbps) compared to Thunderbolt (40Gbps).

The Satechi Pro Hub Max , available in either Silver or Space Gray, features USB4 ports that are both compatible with Thunderbolt and can reach the same 40Gbps maximum throughput.

Connecting directly to two of the MacBook’s Thunderbolt ports, it boasts a bunch of ports that should be enough for most of us. The hub receives 40Gbps from each of the Thunderbolt ports on the Mac (so a total of 80Gbps). 40Gbps is used for the USB4 pass-through port, while the second Thunderbolt port distributes 40Gbps of bandwidth to the rest of the ports on the hub.

The USB4 port supports up to 96W charging—easily fine for a 14-inch MacBook Pro and punchy enough to keep a 16-inch Pro going and charged pretty quickly. This same USB4 port can be used to connect to an external display—up to 6K at 60Hz display output, transferring data at 40Gbps.

It should allow video output and passthrough charging simultaneously. In a test connection from a MacBook to an LG 4K UltraFine Display, the MacBook was able to output video to the monitor, while the monitor was able to provide power to the MacBook, all through the single connection. Owners of the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro and M2 Air can charge via the MagSafe connector at the same time as using the Pro Hub.

The HDMI 2.0 port can also be used to connect a 4K 60Hz display, so you can achieve a dual 4K monitor setup on any Pro or Max M1 or M2 MacBook. Plain M1/M2 MacBook Airs are limited to just one external display.

Also onboard are a 5Gbps USB-A port and a 5Gbps USB-C port—although neither can charge connected devices. There are both SD and MicroSD card readers (UHS-I), a Gigabit Ethernet port, and 3.5mm combo audio jack port.

In the same family, Satechi also offers the Pro Hub Mini (the same as the Max but without the HDMI port) and the Pro Hub Slim (which swaps the Ethernet port for an extra USB-A port, and boasts 10GBps USB-A and USB-C ports compared to the Mac and Mini’s 5Gbps). If you don’t need wired Internet access, the Pro Hub Slim edges out the Pro Hub Max. If you don’t need more than one external screen or you want to save the USB4 for passthrough charging only, consider the Pro Hub Mini or the Plugable 5-in-1 USB-C Hub reviewed below..

Note that all three requires a MacBook with two adjacent Thunderbolt ports on one side.

Plugable 5-in-1 USB-C Hub – Best budget 40Gbps USB-C hub for Mac

Plugable 5-in-1 USB-C Hub - Best budget 40Gbps USB-C hub for Mac

  • 6K display at 60Hz via USB-C
  • 5 ports inc Ethernet

While not certified as either USB4 or Thunderbolt 4, this compact and very portable 5-in-1 USB-C hub (AMS-5IN1E) offers 40Gbps data-transfer via its USB-C port, and is designed for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros introduced after 2021, or MacBook Airs introduced after 2022. A smart cutout keeps access to those MacBooks’ MagSafe charger port.

The inclusion of the 40Gbps USB-C port is useful as the hub uses the two Thunderbolt or USB4 ports in its flush side connection to the MacBook. But, in return, it gives you two 5Gbps USB-A ports (4.5W charging) and Gigabit Ethernet. The audio jack port is also covered but replicated on the hub.

The 40Gbps USB-C port can be used to connect a display up to 6K at 60Hz, or offer passthrough charging at up to 100W—15W for phones and other devices.

Its closest rival is the Satechi Pro Hub Mini (reviewed above), which features an extra USB-C port (5Gbps) but is more expensive, so this hub wins our budget 40Gbps hub award.

Twelve South StayGo – Best portable USB-C dock

Twelve South StayGo - Best portable USB-C dock

  • Lightweight
  • 8 ports inc Ethernet, 4K display via HDMI
  • 85W passthrough PD
  • No spare USB-C ports
  • 4K display at 30Hz
  • UHS-I card readers

The StayGo is, as its name suggests, one for the home, office and on your travels. It’s lightweight and much more compact than most USB-C docks.

It features a full array of 8 ports, including: USB-C 3.1 for 85W Power Delivery (PD) charging of the laptop; an HDMI port (4K at 30Hz) for attaching to an external display; two 5Gbps USB-A 3.0 ports and another USB-A port with 7.5W for faster charging; Gigabit Ethernet for wired Internet; and SD and Micro SD card readers.

It is showing its age a bit with its focus on USB-A rather than spare USB-C ports. The only USB-C port on offer is for passthrough charging of your laptop.

It comes with a 1m USB-C cable to connect with your laptop, plus a detachable travel cable that hides inside the dock when not in use. While not Thunderbolt 3 or 4 it is compatible with Thunderbolt MacBooks–its data transfer is just limited to 5Gbps rather than TB’s 40Gbps.

It’s pricier than most of the hubs reviewed here, but it’s got everything you need except a spare USB-C port, and we like it a lot. It feels more robust than some of the cheaper hubs, yet weighs just 150g.

It’s available in either Black or White.

Baseus 6-in-1 USB-C Hub – Best value 10Gbps USB-C hub

Baseus 6-in-1 USB-C Hub - Best value 10Gbps USB-C hub

  • 6 ports inc Ethernet, 4K 60Hz display via HDMI
  • 1x USB-C (10Gbps)
  • 2x USB-A (10Gbps)
  • No card reader
  • UK model is older

We are big fans of the Baseus 6-in-1 USB-C Hub which lacks the card readers found on some hubs but boasts three 10Gbps USB ports (2x USB-A and 1x USB-C) and Gigabit Ethernet, plus an HDMI port that supports an external display at 60Hz. It also features a button that will quickly turn the connected external display off.

(The 6-in-1 model currently on sale in the UK offers lesser performance: 5Gbps USB-A instead of 10Gbps, and external display support at 30Hz compared to 60Hz.)

Baseus has several other excellent and affordable USB-C hubs, one of which might suit you better, so check out what each offers:

Baseus 7-in-1 USB-C Hub : 100W passthrough charging; 1x HDMI (4K@60Hz); 3x USB A (5Gbps, 7.5W charging), SD and MicroSD card readers via Amazon US and Amazon UK .

Baseus 8-in-1 USB-C Hub : 100W passthrough charging; 1x HDMI (4K@30Hz); Gigabit Ethernet; 3x USB A (5Gbps, 7.5W charging), SD and MicroSD card readers via Baseus .

Baseus 9-in-1 USB-C Hub : 100W passthrough charging; 2x HDMI (one at 4K@120Hz; other HDMI can only mirror the display on Macs at 4K@30Hz); Gigabit Ethernet; 3x USB A (two at 5Gbps and one at 480Mbps), SD and MicroSD card readers via Baseus , Amazon US and Amazon UK .

Each hub includes an integrated USB-C cable that can be minimized for travel with its neat cable-tidy port that creates a loop. And there’s an LED that shows you when the the hub is in use.

Twelve South StayGo mini – Best budget portable USB-C dock

Twelve South StayGo mini - Best budget portable USB-C dock

  • Works with iPad Pro and MacBook
  • Super portable
  • 4K display via HDMI
  • USB-A port is slow for data transfer

The StayGo mini is, at its name suggests, a cut-down version of Twelve South’s admirable StayGo portable USB-C hub. It’s primarily designed for the iPad Pro but will also work with a MacBook.

While it lacks its bigger sibling’s Ethernet port and SD/microSD card readers, it still packs a HDMI Port (4K at 30Hz), USB A-port, USB-C Port for passthrough 85W PD charging, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

The StayGo’s singular USB-A port features BC 1.2 for up to 7.5W fast charging, but is USB 2.0 so limited to 480MBps data transfer compared to the StayGo’s three 5Gbps USB-A ports.

It can connect directly to a tablet USB-C port, and also ships with a 0.5 meter USB-C cable if you want to use it with a MacBook. And if your iPad is in a protective case, the cable will mean the hub can still connect to the tablet.

Available in Black only.

Satechi USB-C Multiport Adapter 8K With Ethernet V3 – Best hub for multiple fast USB-C ports

Satechi USB-C Multiport Adapter 8K With Ethernet V3 - Best hub for multiple fast USB-C ports

  • 5x USB-C ports: 3 at 10GBps
  • 60Hz 4K display via HDMI
  • 2.5G Ethernet
  • UHS-II SD card reader
  • No device charging from USB-C ports

This USB-C hub has four USB-C ports but no USB-A. If you no longer have need for old-time USB-A by buying this hub you won’t be wasting money on a port you don’t require. If you have USB-A peripherals, such as an older memory stick, then you should look for a hub with a Type-A USB port.

Three of the USB-C ports offer fast 10Gbps data transfer, and one at 5Gbps. A fifth USB-C port is for attaching a power source, most likely a USB-C wall charger. If the charger is rated at 100W, all that power can be distributed via the hub, including up to 85W PD to the host laptop or tablet.

However, aside from the pass-through PD port, none of the USB ports can output power to connected devices.

It’s not just the USB ports that are fast—the Ethernet port can reach 2.5Gb, compared to most hubs’ 1Gb Ethernet, if your network supports such speeds; of course, it is backwards compatible with GigabIt Ethernet networks.

And the SD card reader is also top-notch at 312MBps, compared to some that are UHS-I at 104MBps.

Despite the 8K in its name, the HDMI 2.1 port can support only as high a resolution as an external 4K display at 60Hz refresh rate, as well as display options of 2K/144Hz and 1080p/240Hz. Apple display limitations mean that its potential 8K/30Hz display support is limited to Windows machines.

It’s at the high end for price but you get high-end, premium and future-proof ports for your money.

It is available in Apple MacBook-matching Space Gray, Silver, and Midnight colors.

Satechi 4-Port USB-C Hub – Best budget hub for multiple USB-C ports

Satechi 4-Port USB-C Hub - Best budget hub for multiple USB-C ports

  • 4x USB-C ports
  • Data-only ports
  • 5Gbps not 10Gbps

Sick of hubs that still think USB-A is a thing? If what you want is more USB-C ports, the Satechi 4-Port USB-C Hub has plenty for you. Each port is USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 so 5Gbps, although that should be fast enough for most.

The USB-C ports don’t support passthrough charging or video output, and can handle only two hard drives or SSDs at the same time.

Startech.com 7-Port USB-C Hub – Best hub for multiple USB-A and -C ports

Startech.com 7-Port USB-C Hub - Best hub for multiple USB-A and -C ports

  • 7 fast USB ports
  • 65W power supply included
  • Only 2x USB-C ports

If it’s just USB ports you need to add, then you find more than available on Startech.com’s 7-Port USB-C Hub, although we’d have preferred more USB-C ports, which here are outnumbered by legacy USB-A.

There are five USB-A ports, all rated at a speedy 10Gbps. One offers 12W of device-charging power. One of the two 10Gbps USB-C ports can also charge connected devices at 12W. The other USB ports each offer a small charge of 4.5W.

Even 12W is not powerful enough to fast charge an iPhone but it’s enough to keep most connected devices powered up.

The hub is self-powered via its 65W power supply.

Hyperdrive Dual 4K HDMI 10-in-1 USB-C Hub – Best dual-4K hub for M1/M2/M3 Macs

Hyperdrive Dual 4K HDMI 10-in-1 USB-C Hub - Best dual-4K hub for M1/M2/M3 Macs

  • 4K 60Hz display via HDMI
  • Supports two displays on M1/M2/M3 MacBook

This hub has enough different ports to call itself a docking station. It has two HDMI ports, two USB-C ports (one PD and one 5Gbps), SD/microSD/SD readers (UHS-I), two 5Gbps USB-A ports, a 3.5mm audio combo jack for headphones, and Gigabit Ethernet.

It doesn’t have its own power supply but offers passthrough PD charging at a more than healthy 100W.

That’s a great set of ports, but that’s not it’s biggest plus for users of Apple’s plain M1/M2/M3-based MacBooks.

The standard M1, M2 and M3 chips (that is non-Pro/Max) in Apple’s recent MacBooks are powerful but have a major limitation: unlike Intel-based Macs, they don’t support more than one external display. The smarter M1/M2/M3 Pro and Max chips do support multiple displays.

If that is a problem for you there is a hardware solution in the Hyperdrive Dual 4K HDMI 10-in-1 USB-C Hub, which lets non-Pro/Max Macs connect two external displays. There is some light software installation involved for M1/M2/M3 users, and you need to allow InstantView access to your Privacy settings in System Preferences. There are alternative solutions for adding two or more monitors to an M1, M2, M3 MacBook .

One HDMI port allows for 4K at 60Hz, and the other 4K at 30Hz.

Satechi USB4 Multiport Adapter w/2.5G Ethernet – Best adapter for USB4 and 2.5G Ethernet

Satechi USB4 Multiport Adapter w/2.5G Ethernet - Best adapter for USB4 and 2.5G Ethernet

  • USB4 40Gbps bandwidth
  • 4K at 60Hz display via HDMI
  • Passthrough 100W PD
  • USB-C not for video

If you want the fastest Internet and network speeds, you need to push past Gigabit Ethernet to Multi-Gig Ethernet, ranging up to 10Gbps. This six-port hub from Satechi boasts a 2.5Gbps (2.5GbE) Ethernet port—2.5x faster than regular Gigabit Ethernet. 2.5GbE development is becoming more commonplace now that WiFi 6 enables wireless connection to over 1GbE LAN, and you can find 2.5G ports on some WiFi 6 routers. Current CAT5e Ethernet cables are compatible so there’s no need for rewiring.

Aside from this super-fast Ethernet this hub boasts 4K at 60Hz HDMI, 10Gbps USB-A and two 10Gbps USB-C ports (one with 100W passthrough charging) and a combo 3.5mm audio jack. Note that neither USB-C port supports video transfer so it’s a one-display hub.

This hub also stands apart from standard USB-C ports by being USB4, which means you get to play with your Mac’s full 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 bandwidth.

If all you need is the 2.5Gbps (2.5GbE) Ethernet port, look at Satechi’s more affordable USB-C 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter , which boasts a strong braided cable.

Ugreen USB-C to Ethernet Adapter 2.5G – Best simple adapter for 2.5G Ethernet

Ugreen USB-C to Ethernet Adapter 2.5G - Best simple adapter for 2.5G Ethernet

If all you need is a USB-C adapter that will add super-fast Ethernet to your computer, the Ugreen USB-C to Ethernet Adapter 2.5G offers 2.5x network speeds compared to standard Gigabit Ethernet on supporting networks.

The short cable isn’t braided like the Satechi USB-C 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter but the adapter is cheaper and just as able.

Satechi USB-C Dual 4K HDMI Adapter – Best adapter for dual 4K displays

Satechi USB-C Dual 4K HDMI Adapter - Best adapter for dual 4K displays

  • 2x HDMI for 4K displays at 60Hz
  • Passthrough PD
  • Requires 2-port laptop

Satechi promises that this adapter can handle two 4K displays at 60Hz – most display-friendly USB-C hubs can handle 4K displays only at 30Hz, a lower frame rate that is fine for most tasks but not ideal for high-resolution gaming or broadcasts.

This simple double-HDMI adapter also includes a USB-C PD charging port (at up to 60W) so you can keep your MacBook charged while it’s in use.

It is compatible only with MacBook models with two side Thunderbolt/USB-C ports, and weighs 62g (2.2oz). Note that it doesn’t support two external displays on non-Pro or Max M1, M2 or M3 Macs.

It is available in either Silver or Space Gray.

Satechi USB-C To HDMI 2.1 8K Adapter – Best USB-C to HDMI adapter for high refresh rates

Satechi USB-C To HDMI 2.1 8K Adapter - Best USB-C to HDMI adapter for high refresh rates

  • Supports 4K/120Hz and 8K/60Hz video
  • Requires HDMI 2.1 cable

The Satechi USB-C to HDMI 2.1 8K Adapter uses the latest HDMI 2.1 technology that supports 4K/120Hz and 8K/60Hz video for ultra-high resolution and refresh rate.

Standard cables and adapters are mainly rated to support lower resolutions such as 4K and refresh rates capped at about 60Hz. Because this adapter supports HDMI 2.1 protocol, it can reach double the bandwidth used for higher resolutions at up to 8K and refresh rates up to 120Hz/144Hz or even sometimes 500Hz if using a lower resolution such as 1080p. Standard cables that do not use HDMI 2.1 are limited in resolution and refresh rates.

Sadly, the Mac’s. display options don’t stretch to 8K unless you use the MacBook Pro’s own integrated HDMI port. The Satechi USB-C To HDMI 2.1 8K Adapter, however, allows for faster refresh rates:

  • 4K at 60Hz/120Hz/144Hz
  • 1080p at up to 240Hz

You will need to own a high-speed HDMI cable that can support HDMI 2.1 protocol—Satechi also sells a 2-meter USB-C to HDMI 2.1 cable , but you wouldn’t need that and this adapter as the cable would do everything you require. The adapter is users who want to use their current HDMI to HDMI cable that supports higher refresh rates. The adapter also gives you the ability to decide how long the HDMI cable you are going to connect will be. For example, if you have a compact desk space and don’t want to have a long HDMI cable to help with cable management, you can buy a shorter HDMI 2.1 cable and connect to the adapter.

Plugable USB-C to HDMI Multiport Adapter – Best alternative to Apple AV Multiport Adapter

Plugable USB-C to HDMI Multiport Adapter - Best alternative to Apple AV Multiport Adapter

  • Inexpensive AV adapter

Apple got a lot of flack when moving to USB-C because it meant that many of its users had to buy one or more adapters to replicate the ports they were used to, and needed.

It wasn’t so much that we needed adapters, but more to do with the price Apple was charging for its simple USB-C hubs and adapters.

Take, for example Apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, which cost a lot for just an HDMI port, one USB-A port and a passthrough-power USB-C port.

Plugable has a much cheaper alternative, at about a third of the price. And it looks pretty identical.

Aside from the price, the one drawback is that the HDMI connection can connect a 4K external display at 30Hz rather than the full 60Hz, which may put off gamers.

But otherwise, this is a great alternative at a fraction of the price, and can charge at 60W.

Satechi Stand Hub for Mac Mini – Best USB-C hub for Mac mini

Satechi Stand Hub for Mac Mini - Best USB-C hub for Mac mini

  • Neat USB-C hub for Mac mini
  • Thunderbolt 3
  • No device charging

We tend to think of hubs for laptops, such as Apple’s MacBooks, which lack more than one or two USB-C ports and so require a dock to add further devices.

The Mac Mini and Mac Studeio, you’d think, have an army of ports in comparison to Apple’s laptops.

The latest Mac mini models boast two Thunderbolt 3 / USB4 (fast USB-C) ports, two old-school USB-A ports, HDMI 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and 3.5mm headphone jack.

That sounds like a lot, but Apple accessory specialist Satechi believes the Mini needs maxing.

Satechi’s Type-C Aluminum Stand & Hub for Mac Mini expands these capabilities with six ports: including a USB-C data port, three USB-A ports, micro/SD card readers, and another 3.5mm headphone jack port.

(Note that you can’t charge devices connected to the USB ports, as they are there for syncing and data transfer only.)

The crucial point is that these points are front-facing, and not tucked around the back with the unwieldy and unsightly power supply. It also lifts the Mini off the desk, and its built-in air vents help regulate temperature and encourage airflow.

There is a superior model, the Satechi Stand & Hub For Mac Mini / Studio With NVMe SSD Enclosure , which includes an integrated slot where you can insert an SSD card to add affordable fast storage, accessible when connected to your Mac mini or Mac Studio. Read our Satechi Stand & Hub With SSD Enclosure review .

HyperDrive 6-in-1 USB-C Hub for 24in iMac – Best hub for iMac

HyperDrive 6-in-1 USB-C Hub for 24in iMac - Best hub for iMac

  • 2x USB-C (10Gbps)
  • USB-A (10Gbps, 7.5W)
  • Color matches your iMac
  • UHS-I card reader
  • 24in iMac only

You might not think a desktop Mac needs a hub, but the 24in iMac is quite lacking, having either just two Thunderbolt ports on the entry-level model or two Thunderbolt and two USB-C at the top-end. These ports are also all hidden away at the back, which can mean snaking cables all over your desk.

Five of the ports on this hub that clamps to the underside of the iMac are front-facing ports for easy access to memory cards, USB storage, or storage cards. There are two USB-C ports and one USB-A port (all rated at a speedy 10GBps). The USB-A port can charge a phone at 7.5W.

The UHS-I (104MBps) SD and microSD card readers aren’t the fastest but should suffice. Such memory cards are an affordable way of adding portable storage, and will also delight camera users.

At the rear of the hub is an HDMI port that can support an external 4K display at 60Hz.

Hyper also sells a 5-in-1 iMac USB Hub with two USB-C (5Gbps) and three USB-A (5Gbps and one that charges at 7.5W).

Quite brilliantly, the hubs can color-match with your 24in iMac, with 7 iMac color faceplates included.

SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Card USB-C Reader – Best USB-C SD Card adapter

SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Card USB-C Reader - Best USB-C SD Card adapter

  • Simple UHS-II SD card reader
  • Requires adapter for microSD cards

If you’re a digital professional or just a photography enthusiast, chances are you might be slightly peeved that the new MacBook Pro you held out for doesn’t have an SD card slot.

SanDisk is here to save the day. This neat SD card reader is USB-C compatible and will allow Thunderbolt 3 speed transfers of all your high-resolution photos and videos.

SD cards are also a very inexpensive way to add portable storage to your laptop, from 32GB up to 1TB.

Cable Matters USB-C to VGA Adapter – Best USB-C to VGA Adapter

Cable Matters USB-C to VGA Adapter - Best USB-C to VGA Adapter

  • VGA and HDMI ports

This simple adapter makes a USB-C port into a VGA port for older displays and projectors, and also can handle two external displays.

VGA was once the most popular video connector but is seen less these days, being overtaken by DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort and direct USB-C.

It supports 920×1200@60Hz HD resolutions via VGA, and 4K at 30Hz through its HDMI port. It isn’t compatible with supporting two displays on an M1 MacBook.

Cable Matters USB-C to DVI Adapter – Best USB-C to DVI Adapter

Cable Matters USB-C to DVI Adapter - Best USB-C to DVI Adapter

  • HD display only

If you need to connect to a DVI ( Digital Visual Interface) display or projector, this adapter does the trick.

It can support resolutions up to 1,920-x-1,080 at 60Hz.

Plugable USB-C 7-in-1 Hub with HDMI

Plugable USB-C 7-in-1 Hub with HDMI

  • 7 ports inc Ethernet, 4K display via HDMI

Slim and sturdy while still being very portable, the latest version of Plugable 7-in-1 USB-C hub comes with HDMI port that can support an external 4K display at 30Hz.

There are also two 5Gbps USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, UHS-I SD and microSD Card readers, and a USB-C port for PD passthrough charging at up to an impressive 87W—enough for most laptops.

At just 106g, it’s the lightest of the truly multifunctional (display plus Ethernet) hub/docks available.

Kingston Nucleum 7-port USB-C Adapter

Kingston Nucleum 7-port USB-C Adapter

  • No Ethernet port

This is a very well-constructed USB-C hub that adds access to seven ports from one USB-C connection.

It includes two 5Gbps USB-A 3.1 ports, and two USB-C ports—one of which allows for passthrough charging at up to 60W.

There’s no Ethernet port with this adapter, but most of us are fine with Wi-Fi anyway. But if you need a wired Internet connection, look elsewhere.

There’s also an HDMI port for adding an external display (4K at 30Hz), and an SD and Micro SD Card reader slot.

Satechi USB-C Dual Multimedia Adapter

Satechi USB-C Dual Multimedia Adapter

  • Two 4K HDMI display ports (one at 60Hz)

This multimedia adapter uses the dual USB-C ports of a MacBook to connect to a hub of ports, including two USB-A ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, SD and Micro SD Card reader, a USB-C charging port (60W) and two HDMI ports.

It is compatible with MacBook models with two side USB-C ports on the same side. It does not support MacBook models with a single USB-C port.

One of the HDMI ports can handle 4K at 60Hz port, while the other supports 4K at 30Hz.

It’s available in either Silver or Space Gray, and weighs 102g (3.6oz).

Satechi USB-C Multi-Port Hub Adapter

Satechi USB-C Multi-Port Hub Adapter

  • No Ethernet

The brushed aluminium Satechi USB-C Multi-Port Hub Adapter offers two 5Gbps USB 3.0 Type-A ports and 4K HDMI. It’s very lightweight at just 51g (1.8oz).

It lacks an SD card slot but does include a USB-C pass-through port (60W) so you don’t sacrifice your laptop’s Type-C port – allowing you to charge your laptop while using the adapter’s other outlets. This is especially handy for owners of the 12in MacBook, which has just one USB-C port.

It doesn’t feature an Ethernet port, so you’ll have to stick to Wi-Fi.

it’s designed to complement Apple’s MacBook range with availability in Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, and Space Gray colors.

Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport – Apple adds HDMI

Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport - Apple adds HDMI

Apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter allows you to connect your USB-C enabled MacBook port to an HDMI display, a standard USB device, and a charging cable–all at the same time. The USB port allows you to connect incompatible USB accessories (flash drives, cameras) to your USB-C enabled MacBook.

The adapter supports full 1080p HD video output to your TV (HDMI-enabled, of course) where you can mirror your MacBook’s display or play movies.

Apple USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter

Apple USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter

Some older displays and especially projectors still use the VGA standard for connection. Unveil your shiny new MacBook at your next meeting, then die of frustration when the projector has a VGA connection.

All is not lost, except that meeting then and there, and a pile of cash, as Apple’s USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter doesn’t come cheap.

Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter

Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter

  • Thunderbolt 2 adapter

This adapter is designed to help owners of really quite old Macs smoothly transition to using USB-C. You may well have devices such as hard drives and external displays that use Thunderbolt 2 connections. This little gadget lets you keep using them with your MacBook or new MacBook Pro.

It also allows new Thunderbolt 3 devices to connect to a Mac with Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 ports–but to take advantage of it this way round Apple advises you need to be running macOS Sierra or above.

Nonda USB-C to USB-A Adapter – Best simple USB-C to USB-A adapter

Nonda USB-C to USB-A Adapter - Best simple USB-C to USB-A adapter

  • Simple single USB-A adapter

This cute little adapter is simply to allow you to plug in one standard USB device or cable at a time, great for charging or syncing your iPhone or using a USB stick. Just don’t misplace it, it’s tiny.

Russia puts Ukrainian President Zelensky on its wanted list

Russia has put Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on its wanted list, Russian state media reported, citing the interior ministry’s database.

Zelensky and his predecessor, Petro Poroshenko, were on the ministry’s list of people wanted on unspecified criminal charges. Gen. Oleksandr Pavlyuk, who is commanding Ukraine’s ground forces in the war against Russia’s invasion , was also on the list.

Russian officials did not immediately clarify the allegations. Mediazona, an independent Russian news outlet, claimed Saturday that both Zelensky and Poroshenko had been listed since at least late February.

Ukraine’s foreign ministry dismissed the reports of Zelensky’s inclusion as evidence of “the desperation of the Russian state machine and propaganda.”

Pummeled by airstrikes, Ukrainians in Kharkiv live in defiance of Russia

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, is facing intense Russian airstrikes, but its residents are defiant. “We can stand up, no matter what they do,” one said.

April 26, 2024

Russia’s wanted list includes scores of officials from Ukraine and North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries. Among them is Kaja Kallas, the prime minister of NATO and European Union member Estonia, who has fiercely advocated for increased military aid to Kyiv and stronger sanctions against Moscow.

Russian officials have said Kallas is wanted over efforts to remove Soviet-era monuments to Red Army soldiers in the Baltic nation. Fellow NATO members Latvia, Lithuania and Poland have also pulled down monuments widely seen as an unwanted legacy of the Soviet occupation of those countries.

Russia has laws criminalizing the “rehabilitation of Nazism” that include punishing the “desecration” of war memorials.

Also on Russia’s list are cabinet ministers from Estonia and Lithuania, as well as the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor who last year prepared a warrant for President Vladimir Putin on war crimes charges. Moscow has also charged the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, with what it deems “terrorist” activities, including Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian infrastructure.

Ukrainians contemplate the once unthinkable: Losing the war with Russia

Could Ukraine lose the war? Once nearly taboo, the question hovers in Kyiv, but Ukrainians believe they must fight for their lives against Putin’s troops.

People stand in front of a mural symbolising Ukraine's fight against Russia as they attend a rally aiming to raise awareness on the fate of Ukrainian prisoners of war, in Kyiv, Ukraine, Sunday, April 21, 2024. In Ukraine, relief over U.S. aid vote — and fear over what an angry Russia will do next

Amid worsening Ukraine war outlook, an infusion of American military aid is seen as crucial in the fight against Russian invaders. Will it be enough?

April 21, 2024

The Kremlin has repeatedly sought to link Ukraine’s leaders to Nazism, even though the country has a democratically elected Jewish president who lost relatives in the Holocaust, and despite the aim of many Ukrainians to strengthen the country’s democracy, reduce corruption and move closer to the West.

Moscow named “de-Nazification, de-militarization and a neutral status” of Ukraine as the key goals of what it insists on calling a “special military operation” against its southern neighbor. The claim of “de-Nazification” refers to Russia’s false assertions that Ukraine’s government is heavily influenced by radical nationalist and neo-Nazi groups — an allegation derided by Kyiv and its Western allies.

The Holocaust, World War II and Nazism have been important tools for Putin in his bid to legitimize Russia’s war in Ukraine. World War II, in which the Soviet Union lost an estimated 27 million people, is a linchpin of Russia’s national identity, and officials bristle at any questioning of the USSR’s role.

Some historians say this has been coupled with an attempt by Russia to retool certain historical truths from the war. They say Russia has tried to magnify the Soviet role in defeating the Nazis while playing down any collaboration by Soviet citizens in the persecution of Jews, along with allegations of crimes by Red Army soldiers against civilians in Eastern Europe.
