Visitors to the UAE whose visas are about to expire can extend their stay by up to 60 days if necessary.

Anyone who does not go through the proper procedures and stays beyond the validity of their visit visa will be subject to fines of Dh50 ($13.61) a day.

Visitors who stay beyond the time allowed without renewing their visas can also be arrested for staying in the country illegally. Inspection campaigns are regularly carried out to catch offenders.

Here The National explains how to avoid these fines by applying for a visa extension.

No more 'grace period'

Visitors to Dubai will no longer be granted a 10-day grace period when their tourist visa expires, so travel agents, The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) are urging visitors to apply for a 30-day extension visa before their original visa expires.

This extension can be applied for twice, resulting in an additional 60-day visit.

“People wishing to stay in the UAE after their visit visa expires should apply for a 30-day extension visa to stay legally in the country,” said an ICP call centre agent.

“They can apply for a second 30-day extension, maximum.”

More than 14 million people visited Dubai in 2022. Reuters

The authority encouraged visitors to arrange the extension in advance of the current visa expiring, and warned of the upper limit for number of days spent in the country.

“People should be aware that the total duration of stay within a year should not exceed 120 days,” the agent said.

How much does it cost?

According to the ICP website, the cost of extending a visit visa is Dh610.

However, according to Amer, an immigration service centre, the cost for an extension of a visa issued by GDRFA-Dubai is Dh800.

Fees can vary between Dh800 and Dh1,100 when applying through a travel agency.

Where do I go to get the extension?

“The 30-day extension visa can be issued by the same travel agency that issued the visa for the customer in the first place," said Roshan Davis, manager of Golden Talent Tourism Agency in Dubai.

Visitors who obtained a visa on arrival can apply for an extension via the ICP or GDRFA-Dubai websites, or customer service centres.

Anyone with a visa on arrival can also take their passport to Dubai airport immigration in the Terminal 3 arrival area, Mr Davis added.

What are the required documents?

Holders of a visit visa should send a copy of their original visa and passport to the travel agent for extension. They can also visit the ICP or GDRFA-Dubai website to apply for an extension and the visa will be extended within 48 hours.

The passport should have a validity of at least six months to apply for an extension.

For how many days can validity be extended?

The service allows visit visa holders to extend their visa for up to 60 days, in two applications of 30-day extensions.

Who is the tourist visa for?

Those who do not qualify for a visa on arrival or visa-free entry to the UAE can apply for a tourist visa.

Citizens from 69 countries and states are eligible for a visa on arrival in the UAE . Females below the age of 18 are not eligible to apply for a tourist visa unless they are travelling with their parents.

How can I apply for a tourist visa?

Visitors from countries that do not have a visa-on-arrival arrangement with the UAE can apply for their visas in advance through a travel agency or through the airline.

ATM 2024: UAE reveals details of GCC’s Schengen-styled ‘Grand Tours’ visa

uae visit visa 120 days

The GCC Grand Tours visa will allow tourists to spend more than 30 days in the region

Marisha Singh

Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy, unveiled plans for the introduction of the ‘GCC Grand Tours’ visa, a unified Gulf tourist visa, during the Arabian Travel Market’s (ATM) opening day.

“In a significant move aimed at simplifying travel logistics and fostering tourism, the Gulf Cooperation Council has given the green light to a unified tourist visa that will allow travellers to visit all six countries,” stated Al Marri.

The GCC Grand Tours visa will allow tourists to spend more than 30 days in the region. According to the minister, this will make travel to the region more convenient and affordable for tourists. It will also increase activity and employment numbers in the region, he added.

Rollout and implementation of visa system

While an official rollout date was not provided, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority indicated that the system should be operational by the end of 2024.

“By the end of this year, the whole system should be in place. Many people and teams, led by the Ministry of Economy in the UAE and other ministries in other countries, are working on it tirelessly to make it happen in the best possible way, emphasising digital transformation,” said Al Midfa.

Al Midfa highlighted the collaborative efforts among ministries to ensure a seamless and digitally transformed visa system.

Economic impact and tourism growth

Al Marri emphasised the economic significance of tourism. The minister cited the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) research and stated that travel and tourism contributed 11.7 per cent to the UAE’s GDP last year, amounting to Dhs220bn.

“The forecast is set even higher, with an anticipated contribution of 12 per cent to our GDP, equating to Dh236bn,” he added.

“I believe that our regional ambitions should not be to recover to pre-pandemic benchmarks but exceed them merely,” said Al Marri.

Benefits and prospects

The ‘GCC Grand Tours’ visa aims to simplify travel logistics, making tourism within the GCC more accessible and cost-effective for visitors. This initiative is expected to boost tourist activity and create employment opportunities across the region.

The introduction of the unified visa system underscores the GCC’s commitment to promoting tourism and economic growth, positioning the region as a leading tourist destination on the global stage.

UAE launches 10-year 'Blue Residency' visas: Who is eligible and how to apply? DETAILS

The move comes as uae president mohammed bin zayed al nahyan extended the 2023 year of sustainability to promote green initiatives. the special blue visa is for those individuals who have made exceptional contributions towards sustainability and environmental protection..

Representational Image

"In line with the national directives directed by the UAE President to designate 2024 as the year of sustainability in the UAE, we introduced the ‘Blue Residency’, a 10-year residency granted to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to environment protection, whether in marine life, land-based ecosystems, or air quality, sustainability technologies, the circular economy, or related fields," announced Sheikh Mohammed on Wednesday.

"The sustainability of our economy has become linked to the sustainability of our environment... Our national directions in this area are clear and consistent," he further said. Earlier this year, the UAE announced on its National Environment Day that 2024 will be the continuation of the “Year of Sustainability", and this step aligns perfectly with the country's goals towards a greener future.

What is this special visa and who is eligible?

The Blue Residency visa is a special permit for those who have made exceptional contributions towards various environmental fields, including marine life, land-based ecosystems, air quality, sustainability technologies, the circular economy and other fields. Applicants of this visa, if approved, can extend their stay in the Arab country for 10 years.

The eligibility criteria for the UAE's Blue visa include members of international organisations, international companies, associations, non-governmental organisations, global award winners, distinguished activities and researchers in environmental work. It covers sustainability initiatives both inside and outside of the country.

The visa permit is in line with the UAE President's decision to extend the Year of Sustainability to honour and support individuals committed to environmental conservation and reinforces its commitment to a greener future.

How to apply for the Blue visa?

Individuals who wish to apply for the Blue Residency visa can do so through the services of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP). Nominations and recommendations by competent authorities within the state are also accepted by the federal body.

This will grant a long-term residency to individuals in the UAE along with opportunities to collaborate on environmental projects, access to funding and resources and recognition of exceptional contributions towards environmental conservation.

The UAE provides a host of visas that have a typical validity of two years. In 2019, the country introduced a 'Golden' visa for inventors, entrepreneurs, researchers in different fields of science and knowledge and students with a validity period of 10 years. The UAE also launched a 'green visa' for foreign investors and professionals which do not require a sponsorship of a UAE national or employer for five years.

uae visit visa 120 days

Published: Wed 14 Jun 2023, 6:00 AM

Last updated: Sat 8 Jul 2023, 5:50 PM

Visitors to the UAE can now come to the country on a three-month visa, Khaleej Times can reveal.

A call centre executive at the Federal Authority For Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) said that people who want to visit the UAE for 90 days can make use of the opportunity. “They should consult their travel agents who will help them in issuing the 90-days visit visa,” said the call centre executive.

According to industry experts, this visa was introduced by the end of May 2023, allowing visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days. The visa can be extendable within the country at an additional cost based on the service provider.

Residents are not aware of this three-month visa, Libin Varghese, sales director at Rooh Tourism LLC, said.

According to industry experts, this was reintroduced by the end of May 2023, allowing visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days.

Different types of entry permits

“There are two types of entry permits — a tourist visa or a leisure visa and a visit visa. A tourist visa is issued for 30 or 60 days. The visit visa is issued for 90 days,” said Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager for inbound and outbound operations at Regal Tours Worldwide, adding that this extended visit visa complements the existing tourist visa options, which includes a 30-day or 60-day stay, offering travellers greater flexibility in planning their itineraries.

The 30-day and the recently introduced 60-day tourist visas have long been popular among visitors seeking shorter stays in the UAE, providing ample time to explore the country's iconic landmarks and indulge in world-class shopping and dining experiences.

Who can apply?

Industry experts said that anyone can apply for this visa. “Currently, we have not received much inquiry about it, and visitors who prefer this entry permit are their family members residing in the UAE, as they want to spend a longer time. Take for instance, if a child who is studying in his home country visits UAE during vacations or parents of a resident,” said Varghese.

The fee for a 90-day-visit visa varies depending on your issuing travel expert, with a starting price of Dh1,500 and can go up to Dh2,000, which can even be extended within the country. “The exact details of extension has not been announced as the visa was introduced a few days ago,” said Varghese.

Documents required

According to Subair, one must submit the following documents if planning to apply for the long term visit visa:

  • Recent passport-size coloured photograph
  • Passport copy
  • Processing time

“Once a person applies for this visa, it may take up to five working days. But we can even receive it in two days,” said Subair.

Wayanad DTPC to promote bamboo rafting and kayaking in River Kabani around Kuruva Island

 alt=

Wayanad: The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is all set to promote bamboo rafting and kayaking in the Kabani River around Kuruva Island to attract more tourists to the destination. The initiative is for reactivating the tourism industry in the region as the forest department had closed down Kuruva Island on directions from the High Court on February 17, this year. The closure has resulted in a dent in the revenue of local people who depend on the industry to eke out a living. A team of officials headed by District Collector Dr Renu Raj and DTPC secretary K G Ajesh visited the Kuruva islands recently to have an on-ground feel of the possibilities of bamboo rafting in the River Kabani around the island.

At present, bamboo rafts and wooden boats are used to ferry tourists to the island crossing the water body. With more custom-made rafts made available, tourists can sail around the island in the rafts on an hourly basis, thus exploring the serene nature in a better way, it was pointed out. After the visit, District Collector Dr Renu Raj told reporters that there are large numbers of tourists who love water sports including kayaking and rafting. “The Kuruva Islands are ideal for bamboo rafting, and there are many experts in bamboo rafting among the staff in the centre,” she said. “The vast as well as calm water body is ideal for bamboo rafting,” she added. “Being eco-friendly, there will not be any opposition from the forest department against inducting bamboo rafting in the ecologically sensitive water body,” she pointed out.

Project launch in the next season The Kuruva Eco-tourism project is managed jointly by the forest department and DTPC. The District Collector also assured the women of Kudumbasree units of the locality who were employed in the project, that the district administration would ensure all steps for the opening of the tourism project. Kuruva can be accessed from both Mananthavadi and Pulppalli. DTPC member secretary KG Ajesh told media personnel that the DTPC would launch the project from the next tourism season soon after the monsoon. “Trials have been already on,” he said. The closure of the Kuruva Island for tourists has badly hit hundreds of families that depend on the tourism sector to eke out a living,” he pointed out.

Moves are afoot by the tourism fraternity and district administration to open Kuruva Island as there were sufficient summer rains in the forest regions of the district and the threat of wildlife attack is over. A protected river delta rich in flora and fauna, the Kuruva Island is a unique cluster of islets in River Kabani. The closure of the island was a sequel to the series of wildlife attacks on human beings and three deaths in a row that rocked the district in one month. V P Paul, an employee of the Kuruva Eco Development Committee, which manages the tourism activities under the forest department, was also killed in the attack of an elephant herd. Every year the forest department used to close down Kuruva Island during the peak of summer, for a few days as a pre-emptive measure to check the spread of forest fires."
