Garbett Plateau: About the trek

garbett plateau

Garbett Plateau is a famous trek in the Matheran region of Maharashtra and one of the best treks for beginners. July-September is the best time to do this trek, as the entire area is lush green & the climate is also pleasant.

The main Garbett point is at an altitude of 2625 ft.

The trek starts from the beautiful Dhom lake, a sight in itself during the monsoon season.

If you want to enjoy a day away from the hustle-bustle of city life, this should be your go-to trek in the monsoon.

Best Season:  Monsoon (July-September)

Difficulty:  Easy-Moderate (Endurance: Moderate)

Base Village:  Diksal ( Google Map Link )

Altitude:  2625 ft.

How to reach

This trek is easily accessible via public transport if you are from Mumbai or Pune. Diksal is the base village which is near Matheran.

Public Transport:

The best way to reach Diksal is to take a  train to Bhivpuri  via Dadar or CST; you can  download the M-indicator app  on your phone for the train schedule.

It will take around  1.3 hours to reach Bhivpuri  via train & will cost  INR 40  for a return ticket to Dadar.

After finishing the trek, you can go towards  Matheran  & then take  a shared cab or rickshaw  to  Neral  station & take the train to Dadar. The taxi will cost INR 80 .

If you come from Pune, you can take t rains coming towards Mumbai  & get down at Neral & take another  local train or taxi to Bhivpuri .

Private Vehicle:

Distance from  Mumbai  is around  70 kms  & will take around  1.5-2 hours  to reach.

The distance from  Pune  is about  110 kms  & takes around  2.5 hours  to reach.

Trek Route & Difficulty

garbett plateau

It is a good trek for  physically fit beginners  who can run 5 kms in under 40 mins or are moderately active.

The  hike  is around  10 kms long , but after reaching Garbett Point, it is a straight walk towards Matheran.

It will take about  4 hours to get the top from Diksal .

During monsoons, you can also enjoy the season  Diksal waterfall  just when you  start the trek .

In recent years, the trek has become pretty famous, and now the trail is  appropriately marked  & hence you  do not require a local guide  to do the hike.

The first part of the trek from Dhom lake to Sagachiwadi is easy and doesn’t require much effort.

Sagachiwadi  is almost at the  50% mark  of the trek; one can take a break for some time because the climb to Garbett point from this village is steep & will require  1.5 hours to reach the plateau  & another 30-40 mins to get to the end.

The final patch from Garbett point to Dasturi Naka (Matheran) is approximately 3kms, a gradual walk.

Garbett plateau trek guide, abdullah alam, 11 jul 2021.

Garbett Point and Garbett Plateau are situated at the top of one of the several mountains in the Matheran range. It it is at approximately the same altitude as Matheran, but having an open vista all around, with very few tall trees, it offers incredible views of the range all around. Here's how to get there.

Route #1: Bhivpuri

The route from Bhivpuri is the longer of the two. It is more scenic and beautiful, but also longer and slightly more difficult.

Here are the details -

Arrive at Diksal village. Bhivpuri railway station is located at the edge of Diksal, making it a convenient access point for the trek. From here, walk up to the reservoir of Dhom dam. The reservoir is near Diksal, and takes barely a couple of minutes to walk there.

Once at the reservoir, look for a trail that begins along the left bank of the reservoir. The trail is quite scenic, and runs at ground level along the bank for quite some distance, crossing streams and waterfalls. After walking some distance you will come across a river that runs into the reservoir. Cross this river to find the trail that leads up to the next village, Sagachiwadi. The trail leading to Garbett Plateau skims around Sagachiwadi. Follow the trail to reach Garbettt Plateau.

Garbett Point is another point a small climb up from the plateau, the highest point of that particular mountain.

Dhom Dam Reservoir

Route #2: Matheran

This route is the easier one. Along the winding road upto Matheran, there is an opening in the wall on the left side, from where a trail that directly leads to Garbett Plateau begins. The local drivers there know where this is, and will drop you off at the right spot. The route is straightforward and well-made, and leads right to the plateau. A lot less challenging, it is perfect if you just want to visit the plateau to chill out for a while.

The Bhivpuri route is tricky to climb down in monsoons; the last leg of the trail is steep, with water trickling over the rocks. Easy enough to climb up, but trickier to climb down. Doable, but difficult. Here is an itinerary that I would advise to follow -

  • Train to Bhivpuri
  • Bhivpuri -> Dhom
  • Dhom -> Sagachiwadi
  • Sagachidwadi -> Garbett Plateau
  • Garbett Plateau -> Matheran
  • Matheran -> Neral
  • Train back home from Neral

The route to Matheran from Garbett Plateau begins on the right side of the hillock on which Garbett Point is situated.

View from the end of Garbett Plateau

View from the end of the plateau

Cloud Formation

On one end of the plateau, lies Garbett Point. On the other end, the plateau ends into a cliff that forms a ridge with another mountain a little distance ahead (pictured above). That ridge, along with Garbett Plateau itself, form ideal conditions for orographic lift; a phenomenon where air moves up a sudden rise in the topography, either due to anabatic wind or simply horizontal winds being pushed up against a mountain.

This rising air cools down adiabatically, resulting in the rapid formation of clouds. If you are lucky, you might be able to see this happen up close.

What is Veganism ? It is a way of living which seeks to exclude all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for clothing, food or for any other purpose. The people who follow such way of living are called the Vegan . Abhi!! How come a travel post is related to Veganism? A couple of days ago, I was a bit lucky to do the Garbett Point Trek with a vegan mountain climber “ Kuntal Joisher ”.

Who is Kuntal Joisher ? Kuntal is a vegan mountaineer and a software engineer based out of Mumbai who became the first human in the world to have ascended any 8000-meter mountain ( Mt. How to reach Garbett Point Trek from Mumbai/Pune

The cheapest and the convenient way to reach Garbett Point Trek base village (Diksal) is via railways . The nearest railway station is the Bhivpuri Road station which is just a few meters away from the Diksal Village. For those coming from Mumbai, you can catch a Karjat bound local train and get down at Bhivpuri Road station (E.g. CSTM 4:50 AM – Bhivpuri Road 06:58 AM).

How to reach Garbett point trek from Pune Mumbai-min

If you are coming from Pune, you can catch an early morning train for Karjat and then another local train for Bhivpuri Road Station. At Bhivpuri station, you can ask anyone for the route to Dhom Dam (Diksal village) which is the start point of the trek.

For the return journey, you can take a shared taxi to reach Neral from Dasturi Naka (end point of Garbett point trek). Local trains from Neral are available to reach other parts of Mumbai.

Difficulty level of Garbett point trek

I would rate Garbett point trek as a  moderate level trek  in terms of difficulty. It generally takes around 4-5 hours to complete the trek –> 3-4 hours of ascending to reach the Garbett Point from Diksal Village and 1 hour of descending to reach Dasturi Naka which is the end point of the trek.

Few stretches while ascending are quite steep and one needs to be extra careful while trekking in monsoon season as it becomes quite slippery. If you are planning to do the trek in summers, I would recommend you to start your day early as it becomes extremely hot in the afternoon.

Trek route to Garbett Point

My journey to Garbett point trek

A couple of weeks ago, while scrolling through the news feed on my Facebook account, my eyes glued to a post by Kuntal. He was planning to organize a moderate grade, one-day trek, zero waste, and vegan-friendly hike to Matheran via Garbett point as a part of the first-ever “ Walk, Hike, Go ” to be held in India. Without a second thought, I texted him and asked him if could join him on this trek.

Woo-hoo!! I was on cloud nine!!! I was super excited to do a trek with one of my inspiration. Last time, when I met him on Everest base camp trek back in the year 2016, we barely interacted for a couple of minutes. But in the short interaction, I was so much inspired by his way of living the life. We exchanged our social media handles and I wished him good luck for his Everest expedition.

15 th September 2018 – Finally the day arrived for the Garbett point trek!!

I started from Pune around 3:30 am and took the Latur CSTM Express train to reach Karjat by 6:00 am. From Karjat station, I took a local train and reached Bhivpuri road station which was the planned meeting point of all the fellow trekkers. Within a few minutes, everyone arrived and we were around 50 in the count. Yes, you heard it right!!!

Onacheaptrip at Dhom Dam Garbett Point Trek

And Kuntal was one among them, I was so happy to see him after so long. After a brief introduction, we headed towards the Diksal Village where we had breakfast. The initial trail is a dirt road, which passes next to the Tatoba Temple and takes you to the Dhom dam which is also known as Bhivpuri Lake. The view of the dam with huge mountains in the backdrop covered under clouds was a perfect moment to capture.

We could see a roaring waterfall in the distance and there were quite a few around Garbett point trek route. After walking along the Dhom Lake for around half an hour and climbing a small steep hill, we made it to the first landmark- “The hill with a huge tree”.

General introduction at Garbett Point Trek

Kuntal giving an introduction about Sunsar Maya

It was a day of blue skies with the sun shining to its brightest; the weather was extremely hot and humid, a rarity in Mumbai during this time of the year. The breathtaking views of the lush green surrounding regions kept us motivated to move further.

Our next stop was at a small village Sagachiwadi which is built on the hilly terrain. Walking across numerous paddy fields at such altitude was a moment to remember. You can ask for directions from the villagers, they are very helpful and will be more than happy to help you. Also, you may get your water bottles filled here.

The further climb from the village is very steep with again a big tree as the next landmark. From here you can sense that Garbett Plateau is just nearby. After hiking for around 20-30 minutes, we finally made it to the Garbett Plateau.

Lush green Garbett Plateau

Garbett Plateau Matheran

Wow!! I haven’t seen anything much greenish!! The plateau reminded me of the childhood paintings with lush green carpet and small huts and water bodies in the vicinity. Almost every one of us lay down on the vast plateau, the blistering heat had already knackered quite a bit.

Beautiful Dhom dam Garbett Point Trek

At the plateau, one has two alternatives to choose from, either climb up the steep section to the Garbett point and descend to the Dasturi Naka (end point of the trek) or take the longer route amidst jungles (30-40 minutes) to reach the Dasturi Naka. Being such a huge group and keeping safety in view, we decided to take the longer route.

Owing to the extreme humidity, the sky finally opened up and it started pouring down heavily. We were enjoying every bit of raindrops falling over our tired body. Within a few minutes, I was completely drenched. All the tiredness was gone!! Thank you rain Gods for being so kind on us.

After walking for half an hour, we finally made it to the Dasturi Naka. During the entire trek, I loved every bit of my conversation with Kuntal. I was so happy to know more about him, and wish I could follow his lifestyle, especially the “Veganism”.

Morbe Dam as seen from Garbett Plateau

After reaching Dasturi Naka, we took a shared cab for Neral (INR 70) and decided to do lunch over there. It was time to put an end to yet another exciting trek. With all the happy memories, I boarded into a train for Pune.

Stay and food options at Garbett Point Trek

As such, there is no stay option at the Garbett Point trek. One can pitch a tent somewhere on the Garbett Plateau but remember winds are generally quite strong at the plateau and putting a tent would be tough. One can combine the Garbett Point trek with Matheran trip and stay somewhere in Matheran. For more details, check out my earlier post on Matheran .

The tent that I carry during the treks is Quechua Arpenaz 2 Tent . It has enough space for 2 people.

At the start point, there are few dhabas which serve the local Maharashtrian food. There is no food option along the trek route, so I would advise you to carry all the eatables along with you. Also, remember to carry at least 2 water bottles with you. Once you finish with the trek, you can have delicious lunch at Dasturi Naka as there are few food options available over there.

Best time to visit Garbett Point Trek

Undoubtedly, the rainy months of  July, August and September  is the best time to visit the Garbett Point trek as the surroundings are lush green and the weather is extremely pleasant. But remember, for the most part of the day the surroundings may not be visible from the Garbett Point due to the heavy fog.

September to February will be the perfect time to visit Garbett point trek if you looking to have a glimpse of Dhom dam and its nearby regions. Summers are extremely hot so I would advise starting with the trek very early.

The trek was organized to raise awareness and funds for  Sunsar Maya . Giving is not just about making a donation; it’s about making a difference.

A long-term wait to do a trek with one of my inspiration Kuntal finally got fulfilled. Hopefully, I will be joining him for more treks in the near future.

Trek to Garbett Plateau (Garbett Point in Matheran)

  • Treks in Maharashtra
  • Treks Near Mumbai

Dhom Dam (Dhom Lake)

Love lush green landscapes:

If you go on this hike at the right time, (Read: July to February), you will be greeted with a beautiful green landscape for as far as your eyes can see throughout the trek.

Love saving money:

You can ideally do this trek for less than 150 INR if you take 100% local transport and bring your own food.

Love waterfalls:

Bhivpuri is the land of waterfalls. On the route of this trek itself, there are two beautiful falls: Diksal Waterfall and Ashane Waterfall.

Contact us at [email protected] to download the KML file of the Garbett Plateau Trek Route Map.

Or check the steps to download the KML file .

If you do this trek during the monsoon season (which we highly recommend), you will be welcomed with a lush green landscape that you have seen only in paintings. The trek starts from Bhivpuri railway station and passes through Diksal village. Once you cross Diksal village and climb a tiny ascent, you will be welcomed by the beautiful landscape of Dhom dam.

After a long and beautiful walk alongside this water body and after crossing 3-4 streams of sweet and cold water, you will reach the first ascent of the trek. When you reach here, you will be able to see Diksal waterfall in the south.

From here on, there is a steep ascent till you reach Sagachiwadi village. Follow the route given on the map to navigate through this village. Play with dogs, and interact with the locals, if that’s your thing, get some fluids inside your body or get a quick snack while you rest for the next leg of the journey.

The village has a well where you can refill your water bottles. Use the map to navigate your way to the well. The well falls in your route towards Garbett point so you won’t have to go out of the way. Please note that this well is completely dry during summer.

Once you clear the village, there’s another leg of a very steep and challenging climb to the Garbett Plateau. This section of the trek is very slippery during the monsoons and you should climb this cautiously.

The climb ends at Garbett Plateau which is kind of a wide ridge extending up to the Garbett Point hill.

The walk to the base of Garbett Point will be rather a pleasant stroll with panoramic views of the valley on both sides.

When you reach the base of Garbett Point, you will have 2 options:

1. Climb up to Garbett Point through a narrow and highly exposed route with a drop of hundreds of feet on one side and the mountain on the other. OR

2. Take a left turn and pass through the tiny village in Matheran to reach Dasturi Naka

The first route is shorter and more thrilling but obviously comes with a higher risk.

The second route is slightly longer but does not have any exposed patches.

Both routes will take you to Dasturi Naka from where you can get jeeps to Neral station (80 INR). Neral is another railway station on the Central Railway line and is well-connected to Mumbai. This is the nearest station if you want to go to Matheran.

Memories from our night trek to Garbett Plateau:

A group picture of all of us on Garbett Plateau doing stretching exercises which will help us avoid taking leave from the office the next day due to body pain.

If you have any questions related to the Garbett Plateau trek, please post them in the comments and we will help you out with them.

Diksal Village

The base village for the Garbett Point trek is Diksal village which is adjoining the Karjat-Neral road close to Bhivpuri Railway station on the Central Railway line. You can make all your arrangements such as finding a guide, tasting the local cuisine, etc. in this village. You won’t be descending back to this village because the best way to end the trek is walking towards Dasturi Naka, Matheran, from Garbett Plateau and taking a Jeep to Neral from there.

How to reach Diksal village with Local transport?

The best way to reach Diksal village is by taking a local train on the Central Railway line towards Karjat or Khopoli and getting down at Bhivpuri railway station. The village is just a walking distance of 0.6 km from the station. If you stay in the western region of Mumbai, you can travel to Dadar or Ghatkopar to catch the train towards Karjat/Khopoli. Do check the schedule of the train on the m-indicator app (Android / iPhone) before leaving because typically there’s just 1 train in every hour.

How to reach Diksal village with Private transport?

You can drive all the way up to the base of the trek in Diksal village since it is very close to the highway. You can either find a parking spot on your own or take help from a local. Taking private transport is not the best option in this trek unless you plan to descend from the same route. Usually, it’s best to climb up to Garbett Plateau from Diksal and then go to Dasturi Naka in Matheran to catch a Jeep towards Neral station.

Drinking Water

There is no natural source of water at the top of the trek. You can refill your water at the well in Sagachiwadi village that falls on the route (find it on the map). This well is totally dry during the summer.

We suggest you carry at least 3 liters of water before you start the trek. Fully refill your bottles at the Diksal village or several Dhabas on the highway before you begin the hike.

Traditional Maharashtrian food, packed food, Maggi, etc. can be found at several dhabas by the highway. If you can contact a local guide from Diksal village (number attached in the “Local Contacts” section) they will arrange a delicious home-cooked meal at your request in Diksal Village.

There are a couple of stalls selling bottled water, Maggi, corn, etc. besides the Dhom dam but there aren’t any stalls beyond during the entire hike.

Accommodation

Garbett Plateau as well as Garbett Point are open from all directions with nothing to block the winds. Thus, pitching tents amidst wild winds here could be tricky. However, you will find ample accommodation options in Matheran as it’s one of the popular hill stations around Mumbai. You can even explore other beautiful points in Matheran if you have the will and energy to stay one more day at a hotel or homestay here.

Food and Refreshments at Diksal Village

July to September

This is the period when monsoons hit Mumbai every year. During monsoons, the entire route for this trek is a paradise on earth. The huge expanse of flatlands and water bodies with a backdrop of huge, green mountains, free-flowing streams, multiple waterfalls on the way with water gushing through them, and the occasional cooling down when the rains shower on the valley. All of these make this trek an unforgettable experience.

However, there are multiple streams that you need to cross before you reach the first leg of the trek. The streams, especially the last one near Ashane Waterfall, can get really rough during monsoons and it is risky to cross them without any expert guidance. Thus we would suggest you get a guide at least till that point so that the local folk helps you cross the streams.

If you plan on hiking here after the monsoons are over, we suggest you start the trek really early because the weather can get very hot very fast.

If you plan to visit this place during summer, we highly recommend doing a night trek and avoiding hiking in the day. The entire route does not have a lot of places to take cover from the sun. Right from Diksal to Garbett Plateau, there are only a handful of trees and the route is exposed to the sun for pretty much the entire journey. Make sure you carry a lot of water (4-5 liters).

- 3 Liters of water (compulsory)

- Torch with extra batteries (Do not rely on your phone’s torch) - preferably buy a headlamp

- Sun hat or cap

- Blankets and sheets (if you plan to camp or if it’s a night trek)

- Warm clothes during winter (Temperature could drop below 10° Celsius)

- Sports shoes or trekking shoes (strictly no sandals or chappals)

- Comfortable t-shirt (preferably dry-fit and full sleeves)

- Comfortable trousers (no jeans or shorts)

- Extra pair of clothes and a hoodie (weather gets chilly before sunrise)

- Electrolyte powder (such as Electral, Enerzal, etc.)

- Light snacks to munch on during breaks

- Fresh fruits / Dried fruits such as dates, figs / Nuts mix, etc for eating along on the trail

- A small day pack to carry all the above (Kindly avoid handbag/sling bag)

- Personal medications, if any

- Optional items: sun goggles, wet tissues, hand sanitizer, cameras, etc.

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

Travel is never a matter of money but of courage – Paulo Coelho.

A break is what every individual needs and deserves from the mundane lifestyle and the hectic Mumbai life. The best way to get away from this chaos is by making peace with nature. This is what we decided and zeroed down to Garbett Plateau trek. I wouldn’t say it was all bed of roses because we decided to go Superhero mode in March when the sun was blazing hot, but it was just what we needed #muchneededbreakpoint.

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

Avid trekkers will be aware of Garbett Plateau which offers 360-degree views of the Matheran range as you reach the top. The breath-taking views are something that gives you the satisfaction of the hard climb. Starting from Bhivpuri, the trek has ups and downs from flat to steep patches, which make your trek challenging yet exciting.

A Little Bit about Garbett Point

Located beautifully on the south-west of Matheran, Garbett Point trek is something no trekker or nature lover should miss. The panoramic views are just icing on the cake. While you trek on this plateau, did you know the story that goes behind it?

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

Well, let me tell you.

This beautiful and breathtaking spot was discovered by Hugh Poyntz Malet, the district collector of Thane district in 1850. He used this place for relaxation and leisure. Furthermore, foundations of it were laid as a future hill station by Lord Elphinstone – The Governor of Bombay. Indeed, Garbett Point is a beautiful spot that offers mesmerizing views.

About the Trek

  • Trek Difficulty level: Medium
  • Trek endurance level: High
  • Region: Matheran
  • Approximate time required for Garbett Plateau trek: Maximum 4 – 4.30 hrs from Bhivpuri road.
  • Duration: 1 Day
  • How to Reach – Karjat fast train (06.35 am) from CSMT
  • Get down at Bhivpuri Road
  • You will reach the station by 07.56 am

We started this long, challenging yet fun journey at 06.00 am by taking the Karjat Fast train from Ghatkopar at 6.35 am. We reached Bhivpuri station by 07.56 am. It is walking distance from the station to the Garbett Point. You will find rickshaws that will charge you around INR 200 – 300, but trust me, I would suggest you go walking to witness the beautiful Bhivpuri Lake. The rickshaw drops you near the Dhom Dam, which is quite closer to Garbett Point and the climb is not that much. There is also another way to reach the Garbett Point from Neral. So, you get down at Neral, take a toy train to Matheran and go on your adventurous journey.

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

Well, we decided to ditch the rickshaw and go walking. The walk was long and challenging, but it was worth it! The mesmerizing views and the crystal clear water of the Lake will just cool you off. The land was barren, but it was something we were expecting because it was March! The famous and pretty Bhivpuri Lake was just simply serene, calm and mesmeric. You are advised to not go deep inside the lake if you are planning for a dip because the mud is mushy and can just pull you inside. We had a word with a villager there, and she suggested us to not venture above knee-length water.

We started with our climb to the Garbett Plateau, and it was everything we expected. The hills were barren and hot. Here and there we found trees and made sure we took our break. For me, those shades were blessing to hide from the blazing sun. It was 9.00 am, and yet the sun was blazing hot. But there was no way we were going to give up because – “Life is a climb, but the view is great.”

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

You have to cross Diksal Village to reach the Garbett Plateau. The villagers are kind and helpful. We came across this guy named Balu who was kind and helped us take the right route to reach the Garbett Plateau. Since it was just us and no one else for the trek, the guy stood there guiding us till we reached halfway.

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

If you are planning to for Garbett Plateau trek, you can contact him on – 9011222804 . You can find his house in one corner as you walk through the village. He has a small shop near his house where he sells water and stuff for your trek. He is happy to help any trekker and offer right directions.

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

The breath-taking views of the surrounding region was the reason that kept us going. But the climb was worth! It was everything we had imagined. The views atop the hill were just enthralling. The view of the lake when you reach the top was something I cannot explain in words. We were glad we made it!

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

While at the Plateau, you have two options – You either take the longer route to reach Dasturi Naka or climb the steep section or make your way to Dasturi Naka. Since it was too hot; we decided to go with the latter one. It took us around 30-40 minutes to reach Dasturi Naka. Once we reached Dasturi Naka, we took a cab to Neral station and then headed to Matheran. Thereon, we had our mini vacation in Matheran.

My suggestion would be you go for this amazing trek during monsoon when the nature plays its part by offering you greenery, drops of enthralling rain and cool breeze. We decided to go for this trek only to get away from the mundane life and it was worth it!

Vagabond Experiences

Hosted by Vagabond Experiences

garbett plateau trek difficulty level

Vagabond started out as a project by four friends with a disdain for the ordinary. The idea was simple; take people out of their comfort zones. Not like Roadies, but just enough to bond them together through beautiful and authentic experiences. Happiness, as they say, is only real when shared. And share we did. The company was founded in 2014. As fresh Bachelor of Arts degree holders, companies were lining up to hire us fine gentlemen; we’re kidding. Fueled by entrepreneurial zeal, we started with small events in the city like heritage walks through Bombay’s old quarters. As musicians and travellers ourselves, we decided to marry these two loves of our lives. That is how the idea for the first Fields of Sound™ came about. Since then, it has only been onward and upwards for us. Since 2014, we’ve made friends like family through our journey. Our little ‘Vaga’-Fam. It’s safe to say, it’s been quite an adventure. One we would like you to join :)

  • Do not carry sling bags or any bag that dangles. Try keeping your hands free at all times.
  • For those of you who haven't trekked before, don't worry, we at Vagabond encourage you to take your time and have a great experience climbing with us. A Vagabond trek isn't about speed, it's about the group experience. For those of you who have trekked before, we encourage you to encourage the beginners and help them through the way.
  • A day prior, you will be added to a WhatsApp group with all the other participants and your assigned Experience Manager. Further instructions will be shared on this group and you can coordinate your travel with your co-travellers. If you have any doubts before this, feel free to WhatsApp us on 74000 54929
  • There isn’t an age restriction on any of our experiences, everyone is welcome. However, the average Vagabond customer is anywhere between 20 – 32 years old. The experiences involve a good amount of time spent with the group. Depending on what experience you’re opting for, there could be a lot of walking and physical exertion.
  • It’s important to understand that most of our experiences include very rustic accommodation and not a luxurious means of transport. These may be basic in their facilities, but the hospitality is homely and comforting. If you’re someone who doesn’t like compromising on your comforts while travelling, this experience may not be very enjoyable.
  • Most of our trips have a healthy number of solo travellers. We encourage you to join us solo, especially if you’re tired of waiting on your friends. We promise you’ll return with many more.
  • We try our best to be responsible travellers. Everyone is welcome to explore with us, but we pay utmost importance to cleanliness on all our experiences. We encourage you to # LeaveNoTrace  behind while you discover the beauty of the outdoors.
  • It’s important to understand that in a limited amount of time, only a limited amount of experiences can be had. We like to cover a few places in-depth rather than just ticking off a long list of things-to-do and places-to-go. However, if you are that kind of traveller, on almost all trips you can feel free to wander by yourself to places of your interest.
  • At a Vagabond Experience, it’s important to stay open-minded and positive when things don’t go as per plan. The essence of traveling in a group is being able to help each other out when in need. The weather could go bad, and plans could get altered. In such situations, we urge you to have faith in your group leader to make the most informed decision for the group.

Years of experience:  We’ve been leading trips around the country since 2014. Our time in this field has helped us learn things about places and people that would not be possible without the amount of experience we have. This knowledge about the destination contributes to a more wholesome and enriching group experience.

Footfall:  Since our inception, we’ve led more than 4,500 people on treks, backpacking trips, camps, and outdoor experiences. Be rest assured, we’ve dealt with all kinds of people.

Safety first:  Given the time we’ve spent in the travel field, we know and believe in the importance of safety. All our Experience Managers are first-aid certified, and carry a well-equipped first-aid kit on every trip.

Solo / female traveller friendly:  Over the years we have noticed a trend in the increasing number of solo and female travellers on our trips. Many of our trips end up having a good amount of solo female travellers.

Group size:  We’ve come to realize that taking large groups of people compromises on an intimate interpersonal experience. Thus, our trips are led with a fairly small group of travellers who find it easier to get to know each other over the course of the trip.

No discrimination:  At Vagabond, we believe that your age, social class, gender or sexual orientation shouldn’t determine if you’re allowed on a trip or not. Anyone and everyone should feel safe and welcome to experience and explore new places.

Flexible itinerary:  On a Vagabond experience, you’re free to stray away from our scheduled itinerary and explore the place on your own. You do you. We’re not your travel guides. We’re here to facilitate a better understanding of the location and help you experience it in your own comfort zone.

Mindfulness to nature:  Over the years we’ve seen the places we visit turn filthier and less pristine. We don’t want to contribute to that any further. At a Vagabond experience, we encourage you to reduce your waste and leave the place cleaner than it was. Check out # LeaveNoTrace

In-depth research: We're not a tour & travel agency. Every experience we offer you has been researched and experienced firsthand by our core members. We visit the locations ourselves and curate an experience that we believe to be in sync with our ideologies.
