Visiting for tourism, leisure or to volunteer
You can visit the Isle of Man for up to 6 months to do the following permitted activities:
- spend time with family and friends
- take a holiday or vacation
- pass through the Isle of Man to another country
- take part in a school exchange programme
- volunteer for up to 30 days with a registered charity
- do a recreational course of up to 30 days, for example a dance course
You cannot:
- get public funds (benefits)
- bring in family members (‘dependants’) - they must apply separately
- live in the Isle of Man for extended periods through frequent visits
- extend your visa or switch to another visa
- work - except for permitted activities related to your work or business overseas, such as attending meetings

The best way to start your visit to the Isle of Man is by visiting one of the Island’s tourist information points to help you plan what of the Island's many attractions, places to visit and things to see and do you want to include on your itinerary.
The Isle of Man Welcome centre can be found at the Sea Terminal in Douglas and is a great place to start. Visitor information centres can also be found in some of the main towns and villages around the Island, usually located in the public libraries or town commissioners’ offices. Leaflets, books, maps - some of which are free and produced in French and German - and helpful staff to answer your questions are available at most information centres.
