The Wiggles release surprise electronic dance album boasting remixes of their biggest hits
Surprise! There's a new Wiggles album out on Friday – but it's not what you'd expect.
The beloved children's entertainers have dropped an electronic dance music (EDM) album full of dancefloor-ready remixes of their biggest hits.
Keen Wigglers would know that there was a chance this would be on the horizon, though.
It comes less than a week after DJ Dorothy (indeed, the dinosaur) performed a surprise set at Melbourne's Billboard nightclub, slinging songs from the new album.
The Wiggles Sound System: Rave of Innocence boasts 14 of your favourite Wiggles songs as you've never heard them before, infused with rave flavour and hectic beats underneath some classic Wiggly vocals.
The group worked with DJ Lenny Pearce on the new bangers. Lenny is also the brother of Purple Wiggle John Pearce (aka Big Strong John).
"This project was super fun to work on," the Justice Crew member told ABC News Breakfast.
"I had the chance to reinvent the songs of my childhood to the sounds of my adulthood."
"I am 33 now, and I vividly remember lying on the floor with headphones on listening to Greg [Page, original Yellow Wiggle] thinking 'wow, this is so soothing'. And then, 30 years down the line, I am mixing his vocals in my studio."
The album features songs that have been doing the rounds for 30 years – think Hot Potato and Fruit Salad – and some newer songs like Baby Shark.
But Pearce's favourite also happens to be the first track on the album.
"I like The Monkey Dance because it is modern pop-sounding. It sounds like an adult tune, but it's Greg's voice … my daughter also loves that, and she is one and a half!"
His daughter happened to be an influence on the sound of the beats, too – giving direct feedback on the songs as they were all coming together.
"She was actually sitting in my studio, in her highchair, from when she was about six months old and I was making them," he said.
"I could see her moving in her chair, so I knew it was a good sign! I have been playing it [the album] for her for the last few months and she loves it."
Rave reviews from the highchair for some tunes sure to be beloved by children and club-rats alike.
"I am super grateful that I got to have the opportunity with Dorothy the Dinosaur and the Wiggles … It's a whirlwind. It is definitely a weird, unique experience for me to do."

Carols in the Domain [ ]
- 18 December 1993, Carols in the Domain , Sydney NSW Notes: The Wiggles performed their hit song, Dorothy the Dinosaur as well as Rock-A-Bye Your Bear and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer .
- The Wiggles ' first official concert was at a friend's kindergarten in Randwick, Sydney in 1991. This, along with the Starlight Room opening, is the only confirmed show to have included Phillip Wilcher , except for the filming of the Dorothy the Dinosaur clip from ABC For Kids Video Hits Volume 2 in 1992.
- Other venues included preschools and kindergartens, busking in Circular Quay, children's birthday parties, the Children's Hospital in Camperdown and the Crowle Home in Ryde, NSW.
- Recurring show opportunities included ABC For Kids Concerts and tours, Powerhouse Museum shows and Australia's Wonderland shows and other festivals.
- John Field appeared at a number of shows including busking and Paul Field replaced Murray for a time in 1991 when he went on holiday to New York City.
- The 22nd December 1992 show ended up being filmed for the ABC For Kids: Live In Concert video.
- According to Greg Page 's book, "Now and Then", Jeff would sometimes play Captain Feathersword when it was a Sunday, because of something called the "Sunday Rule". But after a particularly bad performance in the South Australian town of Whyalla, Jeff did not ever do the role again.
- A character and possible Wiggly Friend , Hoot the Owl might have appeared at the show. Although he may be a non-Wiggles performer, like (among others) Mic Conway , Gillian Eastoe, Mike Jackson, Ian Blake, (all 4 along with Kim the Koala briefly appeared on stage with the Wiggles in ABC For Kids: Live In Concert ) and Terry Murray .
The trivia question
- According to some reports, in 1993, Anthony needed a hernia operation, so he asked Paul Paddick to temporarily take over for him; for that tour, Paddick played the Blue Wiggle, Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog, and Dorothy the Dinosaur. 1 However, the first documented evidence of Paul Paddick appearing with the group is 1995.
- Lachlan Gillespie was in the audience at one of these concerts.
- Peter Mackie helped sell merchandise in 1993, possibly at one of these concerts.
- Clare Field was in the audience at one of these concerts.
- Apparently, Anthony did the sleeping gag at first, then somewhere in 1991-1992, Jeff took it on.
