by thepinay solobackpacker | Mar 9, 2024 | Itinerary , Legazpi , Travel Guide | 0 comments

Comprehensive Legazpi Itinerary and Albay travel guide with sample budget and expenses, where to stay and places to visit in Albay.

Dominating the skyline of Legazpi and Albay is Mt.Mayon, the poster girl of the province. Known for its majestic beauty and almost perfect conical shape. Wherever you are in Albay, it seems as if Mt.Mayon is watching you. Indeed, nothing can encompass nature’s prowess and splendor. But there’s more to Albay, this massive province is oozing with raw appeal; flanked by vast, green farmlands, fishing towns, age-old churches, cave systems, aquamarine rivers, and lush mountains. You can also explore its rugged coastline, lapped by blue waters and dappled with tropical islands. Many of the rising tourist spots in Albay are blissfully uncharted by mass tourism, so best to visit soon before it gets too crowded.

To help you plan your trip, here’s a quick Albay + Legazpi Travel Guide with Legazpi itinerary and sample expenses and budget. Feel free to comment below if you want to suggest additional tourist spots in Legazpi and Albay, I didn’t include everything here as I’ve yet to visit them. But since Legazpi is just 3 hours away from my hometown, I can always travel there and update this Albay and Legazpi travel blog in the future.

WHERE TO STAY IN LEGAZPI/ALBAY

It is important to know beforehand where to stay in Legazpi or Albay when planning your Legazpi itinerary and Albay itinerary.  You can opt to stay in downtown Legazpi or in Daraga area.

Legazpi City is a convenient base because most of the restaurants, malls, and hotels are concentrated there. Embarcadero is also located in Legazpi City.

Daraga area is the quieter side and close to most of the Albay tourist spots, like Daraga Church where you can see Mt.Mayon, Ligñon  Hill, Daraga Church, Albay Park and Wildlife.

Tabaco is also a quiet, but it’s far from Legazpi City or Daraga, about 1 hour drive. It’s a good base for island hopping in Albay and if you want to cross to Catanduanes after.

Here’s the Legazpi airport van/shuttle fare:

Alternatively, if you are traveling in a group, there are taxis at the Bicol International Airport (BIA). Fare will be based through Taxi Meter Charge only.  So, please make sure the driver turns on the meter and charge you based on the taxi meter reading only, including flag-down charges. Refuse the “ pakwayan rate” (charter rate without using the meter) to avoid overcharging.

Tricycles are also available, fare is roughly ₱200 ($4), good for 4 persons.

You can also take a bus from Manila to Legazpi. Travel time is approximately 12 hours. Fare starts at around ₱1,076  ($21). The bus trip ends at Legazpi Grand Central Terminal. Best to take it at night so you’ll arrive in the morning in time for your Legazpi itinerary.

There are several buses with daily trips to Legazpi such as Philtranco, Raymond Bus, DLTB, Peñafrancia.   If  you are based in South Manila, you can ride them at  Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).  If you’re coming from North Manila, make your way to Araneta Center Bus Terminal in Cubao, Quezon City where buses to Bicol abound.

By private vehicle.

Traveling by private car or van from Manila to Legazpi or  from any point in Luzon is possible. If coming from Metro Manila,  travel time is roughly 10 to 11 hours depending on traffic. Refer to Google Maps for direction.

GETTING AROUND LEGAZPI/ALBAY

Albay is a province in Bicol region, composed of 15 towns and 3 component cities (Legazpi, Tabaco, and Ligao). Most of the tourist spots in Albay are located in Daraga, Camalig, and Jovellar.  For island hopping in Albay, it’s near Tabaco.  So most likely, these are the areas that you will visit during your Albay and Legazpi itinerary –  Daraga, Camalig,  Jovellar, Legazpi City, and then Tabaco, if you plan to travel to Mayon Skyline or do island hopping in Albay.

There are many public vehicles in Legazpi and Albay, you can use them to get around.

Tricycles – There’s an abundance of tricycle in Legazpi city center that can take your directly to your destination.  This is your best bet if doing a DIY trip, so you’ll be able to visit the places in your Albay and Legazpi itinerary. Rate depends on the distance of your destination. I always use the tricycle when getting around Legazpi, even going to the airport. But always ask and negotiate the price before hopping in. Tricycle drivers in Legazpi are infamous for overcharging tourists. For short distance ride, for example, within Legazpi city center only, it shouldn’t cost you more than ₱20 ($0.38). If you’re in downtown Legazpi and you plan to go to Daraga area, it could cost you roughly ₱100 ($2) up.

Taxi – Cabs are available in Legazpi, always use the meter.  But you can charter a taxi for your Legazpi/Albay day tour. If you’ll hire the taxi for a day, make sure you negotiate the price first,  discuss the destinations in your Legazpi itinerary first, before hopping in. Usually chartered taxi rates start at roughly ₱3,500 ($67) for a day tour, good for 4 passengers.

Jeepneys – A cheap way to get around Legazpi and Albay is by jeepney.  Fare starts at ₱10 ($0.19) from Daraga to Legazpi and vice versa. However, you need to know the routes to avoid riding the wrong one. You can read the route painted on the side of the jeepney and ask the driver to make sure it’ll pass by your destination.

Here’s some of the Legazpi jeepney routes that you might use during your  Legazpi trip if you want to commute or do a DIY Legazpi itinerary:

  • Daraga-Legazpi Loop 1: This is the jeep that you can take to get to Ligñon Hill and Albay Park and Wildlife.
  • Daraga – Legazpi (Tahao Road): . This is the jeep that you can take to get to the bus station (Legazpi Grand Central Terminal). You can also leave your luggage at the luggage counter in Pacific Mall while you do your last-minute shopping or at SM Legazpi.

SUMLANG LAKE

This bountiful lake offers an unhindered view of Mt.Mayon. It has now become an Instagram-worthy attraction.  Not much to do here except for the activities mentioned below, but it has a relaxing atmosphere as it is surrounded by greenery.

Walk to Sumlang Lake for about 15-25 minutes or hire a tricycle to take you to Sumlang Lake.

QUITUINAN RANCH (QUITUINAN HILL)

Entrance Fee:  ₱30 ($0.57) +  Environmental Fee ₱20 ($0.38) = ₱50 ($1)

How to get there:  Board a jeepney to Camalig. Fare is roughly ₱20 ($0.38)

Alight at the town proper. Hire a tricycle to Quituinan Hill. Chartered tricycle usually costs ₱200 ($4, good for 3-4 pax) because the driver will wait for you. Make sure you inform the driver to wait for you because tricycle going back to town is very rare. If you are alone, you can ask the jeepney driver to drop you off at LCC Camalig. Then from there, hire a motorcycle to take you to Quituinan Hill. Fare is roughly ₱50 ($1) (one way). Negotiate with driver for your trip back. ₱100 ($2) – ₱150 ($3) should be good for a roundtrip fare since the driver will wait for you.

QUITINDAY HILLS

Quitinday Hills is a cluster of green hills in the eponymous town of Quitinday. It’s  reminiscent of Osmena Peak in Dalaguete, Cebu and Chocolate Hills of Bohol. It easily became a popular tourist site in Albay, as it offers a scenic view of its surroundings with a backdrop of the unobstructed Mt.Mayon.

Entrance Fee: ₱25 ($0.48)

Alight at Quitinday Junction/Diversion road. Rent a tricycle to Quitinday Hills, depending on your haggling skill, fare is roughly ₱500 ($10), good for 5 passengers. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes.

At Quitinday Hill, pay the ₱25 ($0.48) entrance fee. Hike uphill takes about 15 minutes.

Travel Tip: While you are at it, you may also visit Jovellar Underground River and Falls (Quitinday River and Falls), ask the driver if you can combine the tour. Fare is roughly ₱1000 ($20), good for 5 passengers. Combined tour may take about 5-6 hours, so, that’s a reasonable rate already since you’re hiring the tricycle for half-day.

JOVELLAR UNDERGROUND RIVER AND SIGPIT FALLS (Quitinday Underground River and Falls)

Though popularly known as Quitinday Underground River and Waterfalls, it is actually located in the town of Jovellar in Albay.  My guess is, because this is usually combined with a trip to Quitinday Hills, visitors must have assumed at first that it is located in Quitinday. The 2-tiered falls is actually called Sigpit Falls by the locals; its water originates from the Jovellar Underground River. Best time to see its teal water is during summer, as it becomes brownish during the rainy season.

  • No mask, no entry.
  • All tourists must undergo thermal scanning.
  • Fill out the Health Declaration Form.

MAYON SKYLINE

Location: Tabaco

About an hour away from Legazpi City is Mayon Skyline, you can visit this before or after your island-hopping trip in Albay since it’s in Tabaco. It has one of the best views of Mayon Volcano, but time your trip during a good weather because Mayon is usually blocked by clouds. Your best bet is an early morning visit as it can get rather cloudy in the afternoon. Otherwise, just try your luck in Cagsawa Ruins, Ligñon Hill, Sumlang Lake, Daraga Church, or Embarcadero.

ALBAY ISLAND HOPPING

Albay isn’t just about Mayon Volcano. There are also islands and beaches that you can visit in the province. A convenient jumping off point of Albay island hopping is Tabaco Port. From here, the islands are about 45 minutes to 1 hour by outrigger boats.

Here are some  of the islands that you can visit, they are located in Malilipot, Bacacay, and Tabaco:

  • Wara-wara Island
  • Pinamuntugan Island
  • Guinanayan Island
  • San Miguel Island

How to get there: From Legazpi or Daraga, take a van or jeepney to Tabaco, Albay. At Tabaco, ride a tricycle or padyak to Tabaco Port. Then from Tabaco port, hire a boat for island hopping. Island hopping rates depend on the boat capacity and the number of islands that you want to visit. Rate starts at ₱2,000 ($38).

A trip to Albay isn’t complete without visiting Cagsawa Ruins, the remnants of an eruption of Mayon Volcano in the past. Located in Daraga, this former Franciscan church was built in 1587 but was buried by the volcano’s eruption in 1814. Today, the surviving belfry has become a landmark and tells a story of resilience amidst catastrophe.

This spot offers a unique backdrop for photos, blending history and natural beauty with Mayon Volcano often visible in clear weather. Don’t miss out on the local handicrafts sold by vendors surrounding the site, as well as Bicol delicacies such as sili ice cream, pili, and more.

An architectural marvel with historical significance, Daraga Church (formally known as the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Porteria ) is one of the most iconic Albay tourist spots.

Built on top of a hill in the 18th century by Franciscan missionaries, the church offers a panoramic view of the Mayon Volcano. The church’s façade is an exquisite showcase of intricate stone carvings and elaborate baroque architecture. Inside, visitors are greeted by a calming ambiance, beautiful religious art, and stunning stained glass windows.

Daraga Church was declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Historical Institute in 2007. This church is not just a place of worship, but also a testament to Albay’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

Legazpi Boulevard is another must-visit tourist attraction in Albay Province. This incredibly picturesque coastal road offers breathtaking views of the Albay gulf, set against the majestic backdrop of the Mayon Volcano.

Stretching over 2.2 kilometers, the boulevard is a favorite spot among locals for leisurely strolls, early morning jogs, or a chill evening hangout with its vibrant local food scene. But that’s not all — this bustling strip is also a hub of activity, hosting several events and festivals throughout the year.

Visit Legazpi Boulevard to see its stunning vistas and an opportunity to mingle with the locals.

Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat or a quick adventure, Sumlang Lake should definitely be on your Albay itinerary.

Quitinday Hills - one of the best attractions in Albay Province

For nature lovers, the Quitinday Hills is a must-visit destination in Albay. This exhilarating tourist spot is comprised of numerous rolling hills, mirroring the iconic Chocolate Hills of Bohol, and offers a stunning view of Mayon Volcano.

Traversing to one of the hills is easy as it only takes half an hour, with the reward of breathtaking panoramic views and picture-perfect moments at the summit. The best time to go here is before sunrise or before sunset for the views.

Cagraray Eco-Energy Park is one of the most popular Bacacay Albay tourist spots. Spanning 110 hectares, it is the first ecological park in Albay Province, ideal for those who are looking for a blend of adventure and relaxation.

The eco-park’s centerpiece is the amphitheater, a majestic structure inspired by the grandeur of Roman architecture, with the view of the ocean at the background. There is also a chapel that you can visit.

Prior to the pandemic, the eco-park also offers various activities such as wall climbing, rappelling, ziplining, horseback riding, and more. However, as of this writing (October 2023) these activities have not resumed yet. That saying, you can still visit the park for photos.

Next on our list of the best Albay tourist spots to visit is Ligñon Hill Nature Park. If you’re visiting the home of Mayon Volcano for the first time, here’s a list of the best things to do in Legazpi to add to your itinerary.

The Cagsawa Church Ruins serves as one of the most iconic tourist landmarks in Legazpi, Albay

Cagsawa Ruins is one of the most iconic tourist spots in Albay province. The church was built in 1587 then destroyed by Dutch pirates in 1636. A priest had it rebuilt in 1587 but in 1814, the historic eruption of Mayon Volcano once again destroyed the church and the town of Cagsawa.

Today, the crumbling structure is adorned with vines growing in between the cracks. Think of the lone crumbling tower as Legazpi’s Leaning Tower of Pisa. Its remnants have been preserved by the Cagsawa Branch of the National Museum in the Philippines as well as the municipal government of Daraga.

See our popular Cagsawa Ruins Tours

Despite its tragic history, the Cagsawa Ruins Park is one of the best places to see the majestic Mayon Volcano on a clear day. Join an Albay provincial tour to visit this tourist spot.

ATV trail ride to Mt. Mayon in Legazpi, The City of Fun and Adventure

Trekking by foot to the Mayon Volcano crater is prohibited for safety reasons. But you can get an up-close experience of this iconic volcano and the structures that surround it when you visit Mayon Volcano Natural Park through Mayon ATV tours  where you can explore the trails that are near the volcano crater but still at a safe distance.

There are exclusive trails you can choose from and the rate per person depends on the trail you choose. Regardless of your driving skills and experience, the ATV is fairly easy to navigate (like riding a bike).

The park has a total land area of 5,775.70 hectares. The protected area includes 6 towns and 3 cities in the province of Albay. The Mayon Volcano Natural Park is home to over 150 floral species and 83 tree species.

There are rivers, creeks, and rice fields that travelers can trek on foot or explore by riding an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in a Mayon Volcano ATV tour . But exploring the flora and fauna isn’t the only thing you can do here.

See our popular Mayon Volcano Tours

While you can see the perfect cone shape of Mayon Volcano anywhere in Legazpi, there’s nothing quite exhilarating than getting closer to it. And you can do get close to it by joining an Albay Day tour or by visiting the Mayon Volcano Natural Park. Well, at least the closest you can in the safest way possible.

Daraga Church in Legazpi, Albay

See our popular Daraga Church Tours

Built in 1773 by Franciscan missionaries, the 240-year-old Daraga Church is the most surreal manmade structure in Legazpi City, Albay. In 2007, it was declared a National Cultural Treasure. It's a popular attraction included in a provincial tour in Albay.

Daraga Church is still standing today as a true testament of faith. You can reach the church by taking a jeepney from Legazpi to Daraga. Once you get to the Daraga Municipal Hall, look for the stairs that would take you to the church, which sits on top of a small hill.

4. Get a Panoramic View at Ligñon Hill Nature Park

If you’re looking for an adventure in Legazpi, visit Ligñon Hill Nature Park! Located on top of a steep hill, there are two ways to get here. First, you can drive up the hill, but cars are only allowed up to a certain point then you walk the rest of the way up.

The walk up usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on how fast you go.

Second, you can take a shortcut by taking on the Kapit Tuko Trail (Lizard Grip Trail). It will only take you 10 minutes to reach the summit but it can be challenging. This trail gives people a sense of what it’s like to hike up Mayon Volcano.

  • Find cheap flights to the Philippines
  • Manila to Legazpi flights
  • Cebu to Legazpi flights
  • Manila to Bicol flights

Once you reach the summit, you’ll be rewarded with fresh air and a 360-degree view of the valley below. There’s a park, a 320-meter long zip line, and a hanging bridge that you can explore.

The best time to go here is in the morning, at around 7 o’clock when you can see the perfect cone shape of Mayon Volcano. But it has become a popular place to watch the sunset, especially among travelers searching for activities in Legazpi .

A Tarictic Hornbill at Albay Park and Wildlife in Legazpi City, Albay

If you’re traveling with kids and you want to see the wildlife in Albay, an afternoon spent at Albay Park & Wildlife will hit the spot! The park is home to more than 300 animals which belong to 75 species. Some of them include crocodiles, pythons, iguanas, and the famous Philippine hawk-eagle.

The museum showcases an embalmed Megamouth Shark and a rare two-headed baby carabao. You can also rent a cottage for an overnight stay if you like. Otherwise, you can rent a boat and hang out at the small lagoon.

Not many people know that Albay has an amazing underground river. It wasn’t as popular as the one in the province of Palawan but the Quitinday Jovellar Underground River is just as majestic and gained popularity thanks to social media.

Join a Jovellar Underground River tour and explore the secret caves via a bamboo raft. The 150-meter-long cave was formed by water erosion and is adorned with rock formations, stalactites, and columns. The cave’s end features a gorge and is a perfect cliff diving site. The water drops downstream to Sigpit Falls.

It’s best to hire a guide who can help you with navigation and maximize your stay at Quitinday Jovellar Underground River.

Bicol Express is a typical local dish made with coconut cream and chili

A food trip in Bicol is one of the most exciting things to do in the province. If there’s one local cuisine in the Philippines that could represent Legazpi City, the locals would probably say it’s Bicol Express.

Also called sinilihan (spiced with chili), this famous Bicolano stew is made with coconut milk, long chilies, garlic, and shrimp paste. There are more than 25 variations of Bicol Express but you’ll find one of the best ones in 1st Colonial Grill in Legazpi City, one of the top Albay restaurants .

Their first branch opened in 1942 at the old Milwaukee Hospital. During the war, the Japanese soldiers used the building in the Old Albay District as one of their headquarters. That’s why the restaurant has the word colonial as part of its name.

Their menu features a wide selection of local favorites but here are the top picks from their best sellers list that you should definitely try: The tinapa fried rice is to die for and you can order it any time of the day.

The fried rice is flavored with tinapa flakes (local smoked fish) and comes with slices of green mangoes, tomatoes, and salted egg on top.

The Pasta Bicolana, an oil-based pasta served with bits of Guinobatan Longganisa (local sausage) is also a crowd-pleaser. 1st Colonial Grill made its mark on the Legazpi map because of its rare dessert: the sili (chili) ice cream. Yes, that's right. It's ice cream with chili. Don't worry, there are many heat variations you can choose from.

If you’ve always been fascinated by the birth and activities of volcanoes, especially that of Mayon Volcano, spend an afternoon learning all about it at the Mayon Planetarium & Science Park.

But it’s not just another volcano museum. In fact, it’s located in what they call the “waistline” of Mayon Volcano. Yes, the museum is actually halfway up the summit! So if you want to get up-close and personal with one of the world’s most active volcanoes, this is the place to visit.

Despite its name, the museum doesn’t really focus on the solar system and the planets. Instead, you’ll find exhibits and documentaries about the life and behavior of these amazing natural structures.

9. Discover the Japanese Tunnels at Ligñon Hills

This 40-meter long and L-shaped Japanese Tunnel dates back to World War II in 1941

Back then, the tunnels go all the way to the Legazpi City Hall. Today, visitors can crawl inside and explore what was once the hiding place of the Japanese soldiers during the war. There are even life-size statues inside the tunnel depicting what life was like for the soldiers back then.

You’d be surprised by how spacious the tunnels are. After all, these hidden passageways were used as sleeping quarters and even makeshift hospital for the soldiers during the war. It’s a popular part of the Albay provincial tour.

10. Feast on Cordon Bleu at Bigg’s Diner

Bigg's Diner in Legazpi City offers comfort food with a local twist

Bigg’s Diner has been in business for over 30 years. Back in 1983, it was first called Mang Donald’s, a local spin on the popular fast-food chain McDonald’s.

Over the next few years, the restaurant changed names and finally in 1990, the owners named it Bigg’s Diner. BIGG stands for beautiful, intelligent, gorgeous, and God-fearing.

Bigg’s Diners has a lot of crowd favorites, but the best sellers include the pork cordon blue with laing, and the daing na bangus or fried milkfish. Bigg’s Diner is a comfort food haven that serves Filipino and Western dishes with a local twist and is a must-visit Albay restaurant !

View of the Embarcadero de Legazpi with the silhouette of Mt. Mayon at night

If you’re traveling with the whole family to Legazpi City, you won’t run out of activities to try at Embarcadero de Legazpi, a lifestyle hub beside the Legazpi City Port. You can zip line from the lighthouse and enjoy the views of Mayon Volcano and the sea.

Go-kart racing beside the sea. And if you’re looking for more adrenaline-pumping activity, you can hop on a jet ski and navigate the waters with the views of Mayon Volcano.

Embarcadero de Legazpi has several dining options you’ll love. What’s more interesting is that they offer earth-friendly rides like the Segway, which is popular among the older kids. You can hop on a Segway for 15 minutes and navigate the lifestyle hub in style.

There are also e-jeepneys and e-tricycles that can take you around nearby areas with rates, and Legazpi trips offering this tourist spot.

Also known as the Kapuntukan Hill, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Legazpi Port and the Albay Gulf from here. From afar, this small hill located at the foot of Mayon Volcano, resembles the silhouette of a sleeping lion. That’s why the locals fondly call it the Sleeping Lion Hill.

It’s popular among nature lovers and photographers but its location near the lifestyle hub of Embarcardero de Legazpi makes it a popular first stop before checking out the strip mall next to it.

Pork Sisig in the Philippines

Other unforgettable Bicolano dishes include dinuguang baka (beef blood stew), laing (dried taro leaves with pork belly, chili peppers, and coconut milk), and the kare kare with oxtail and beef laman (meat).

The vibe at Bob Marlin Restaurant is very laidback, comfortable, and casual. It’s great for big groups and family gatherings too!

If you’d rather use a kayak, feel free to do so. You’ll even be able to spot a few cows lurking around. (Sorry about this; I guess the dairy farmer version of me is talking out loud.)

Albay pic

Busay Falls

I have been chasing waterfalls for a long time already and I was stoked by the Australian ones. A waterfall is good, but two is better, isn’t it? So, what would you think of seven falls? Bonus; you can even hike around.

Planning your upcoming adventures? Travel by bus! (It's cheap!)

We managed to hike to four of them as the rain has done its job (it’s the rainy season) which makes it harder to hike safely. I’d also recommend you hire a guide as the trails can be very tricky.

The Lava Wall

We had the chance to get on quad bikes to drive around the volcano.

We crossed many rivers, met a few cows again and enjoy the views. And then, to make sure we make the most of this day, we hiked the Lava Wall… and we came down on a zip line. They call it “fun”, I call it “awesome”!

The five views

What’s better than a sunrise through the mountains? I’d say another quad bike ride and breakfast in a secret spot. This was the perfect corner to admire Mount Mayon in detail.

This activity was organized by our resort, the Misibis Bay (which is not a backpacker hostel I’m afraid!).

How to get to Legazpi

  • By flight from Manila to Legazpi airport

Note that there isn’t a direct bus to go from Manila to Legazpi.

Where to stay in Albay

While in Albay, we stayed at the Misibis Bay , a stunning resort on a private island.

Must-visit tourist spots in Albay, Philippines

Mount mayon.

The symmetrical and almost perfectly coned shape of Mount Mayon is one of the most sought-after views for tourists who are visiting Albay. The location is shared by eight cities and municipalities in Albay.

Rising more than 8,000 feet of the Albay Gulf, this active stratovolcano is the highest point for the whole Bicol region. Mayon is so stunning that the name was based on the mountain legend’s heroine, Daragang Magayon, which means beautiful maiden.

Mount Mayon is definitely one of the best tourist spots in Albay that you should include in your bucketlist.

Cagsawa Ruins

During the 1814 eruption of the Mayon Volcano, it destroyed the Cagsawa church located in Daraga, Albay. The place also served as a memorial for the people who died during that time. This location gives a spectacular view of the Mount Mayon. Aside from sightseeing, you can purchase some souvenirs, local delicacies, and even potteries and woodcraft from the vendors near the ruins.

Ligñon Hill Nature Park

The Ligñon Hill Nature Park offers both sightseeing and activities for visitors to enjoy. A wonderful view of the Legazpi City, Albay Gulf, and Mount Mayon can be appreciated from their viewing deck on top of the hill. Located near the viewing deck are some vendors selling local goods, snacks, and artworks.

The park offers activities such as zip line ride, trail climb, rappelling, tunnel exploration, ATV rides, and biking on the gullies at the foot of Mount Mayon. It’s a must-visit tourist spot in Albay to see an overlooking view of Legazpi City.

Kawa Kawa Hill

This is the famous “hill without a hilltop” of California Village, Barangay Tuburan, Ligao. The topmost part of the 236 meters high hill covers six hectares of the cratered top. From the top, there is a great view of Ligao, Mount Masaraga, and Mount Mayon. Apart from the concaved summit, the place is known for having a pilgrimage site of fourteen Stations of the Cross for Roman Catholics.

Embarcadero de Legazpi

There are a lot of things to be experienced along the harbor of Legazpi Port, Victory Village in Legazpi City. This place is a lifestyle hub where you can revel in the mall and the 90 feet high skywalk that has scenic views of Albay Gulf and Mount Mayon. There are land activities such as wall climbing, bungee trampoline, zip line from the lighthouse, kart racing, and Segway riding. For water activities, they offer paddle boat and water jeep rides, jet skiing, and parasailing.

Located in the southernmost part of Cagraray Island of Bacacay, Albay is the gorgeous resort of Misibis Bay. The resort has an activity center, pool, spa, and fitness center. There are restaurants where you can eat and bars where you can hang out with your family and friends. If you want to stay for some time in this place, they have rooms and villas which you can rent. St. John the Baptist Church

This is a Roman Catholic church located in Tabaco, Albay. It is commonly referred to as the Tabaco Church. The church was built using dark volcanic stones and sand that were found from the area during the time it was built. One of the fascinating things about this church is its bell tower that used Rococo or ‘Late Baroque’ design.

The Nuestra Señora de la Porteria Parish Church, more commonly known as the Daraga Church, is located in Daraga, Albay. It was built in 1772 by Franciscans using volcanic rocks. The church is recognized as a heritage destination by the National Cultural Treasure of the Philippines. The location of the church gives a very picturesque view because of the Mount Mayon that can be seen in its background from a specific angle.

Our Albay adventure was indeed an amazing trip. Thank you for dropping by.

Wow that looks like such a fun trip. I would love to go sometime, thanks for sharing!

Yup, our Albay trip was really fun. I hope I was able to help you with this travel guide.

The food looks amazing and those views are fabulous! Great review!

Thank you very much! Bicolano food is indeed good.

I've never been to Bicol, so it's lovely to have vicariously traveled there through this blog. Hoping for better days when we can travel freely and safely.

Hi Ivan, I'm from Albay! Reading your post is making me miss Albay so much. Nakakahiya man aminin but I'm from that province, but I haven't got the opportunity to fully explore my own place. Wasn't a priority back then. Our last visit was in 2019 where we rented a car for a week (Php10k lang!) and we drove in some of the destination that we pass through, no itinerary pero sulit!

I’ve been to Albay for an event 3 years ago and yes ang ganda ng Albay. Sana we could all back to normal so we can go back there. -Dear Maje

A friend of mine lives somewhere there and I always wanted to come and visit. Would totally put all these activities in our itinerary!

Wow, this is actually a great list however, I never been to Bicol and planning to travel soon pag okay na lang lahat.

albay tourist spot itinerary

thanks for this! nagpunta na ako dito sa albay pero hindi ko masyado na enjoy. nakapag mayon ako pero we had to travel to masbate kasi kaya ayun di ko na naexperience ang iba pa. looking forward to visiting this again with my son

omg I wanna cry, I miss traveling :D Bicol was my last travel pre-pandemic. I didn't get to explore tho because we only stayed for a couple of days in Misibis Bay, but Bicol is really one of my favorite places I've been into. Thank you for sharing this. I can try them when I go back because I really wanna go back T_____T

There are so many things to do in Albay plus I love that perfect shape of Mayon Volcano. I also like the idea of riding a train from Manila to Bicol. That would be so fun and full of adventure. I wish PH can also make a KTX just like here in Korea.

Sorsogon actually has quite a lot to offer in terms of tourist spots and places to visit.

Yes, I've always wanted to visit Sorsogon. Thank you for the recommendation.

Albay looks amazing! Have been learning about Mt. Mayon since my primary school days but have never been all my life. Thanks for the travel guide! I hope that after the pandemic I can experience Albay and it's beauty.

I've never visited there but would love to, I was so impressed with everything in the Philippines, ro rich in scenery!!
