Arsenal are set to travel to Baltimore to play fellow Premier League side Everton in their pre-season in the United States.

The Gunners have already confirmed that they will also be playing against Chelsea and MLS side Orlando City as part of the FC Series.

The FC Series is a national expansion of the Florida Cup, held in the state since 2015 featuring clubs from across the globe.

Arsenal will play their first match against Orlando on July 20 at Exploria Stadium, the home of the MLS side. Then the Gunners will clash against London-rivals Chelsea at Camping World Stadium on Saturday, July 23.

Camping World Stadium recently completed the latest in a $260 million series of upgrades. The historic venue has hosted several top-tier international matches including five matches during the 1994 FIFA World Cup, nine matches during the 1996 Olympic Games and three matches during Copa América Centenario in 2016.

Last month, manager Mikel Arteta sounded pleased to visit the US for their pre-season prep. The Spaniard said, “We’re very pleased to see our pre-season plans taking shape with the announcement of our trip to the United States to take part in the FC Series.”

He continued, “It’s been a long time since we’ve seen our fans in the US and we’re looking forward to playing in front of them. We’ll be playing some good sides that will provide strong opposition and the training and matchday facilities in Orlando will provide a first-class environment for our preparations for next season.”

Arsenal will release the home shirt for the 2022/23 season on the 19th May. Arsenal will release the away shirt during the pre-season tour to the USA. Technical Director Edu, added: “The FC Series, together with our Orlando training camp, will provide Mikel and the squad with an excellent level of preparation as we focus on next season. We look forward to confirming further plans for our pre-season very soon.”

Arsenal are also expected to have a pre-season training camp in Germany prior to the US trip. There are also still talks going on over the potential of a return for the Emirates Cup this season, although it is likely that this will only be a one-day event rather than taking place over two days as it has done in the past.

Pre-season preparations will be given the green light slightly earlier this season due to the World Cup, which is to be held in November-December in Qatar.

The 2022/23 season will begin on August 6th and is set to resume after the World Cup on Boxing Day, before finishing on May 28th 2023.

If I go on a tour to a foreign country I’d like to enjoy the local hospitality, local cuisine, the culture and enjoy their way of life.

If I am from England, why do I want to go to South America on tour, for example, but stay in a British hotel, eat British food, only visit British historical sites, drink British beer and attend British events? I have nothing against anything British by the way.

That’s how I feel about these pre-season friendlies where we are going to the USA to play clubs like Chelsea and Everton.

Fair play to playing Orlando City but why can’t we also be playing MLS teams like LA Galaxy, Inter Miami, NY Red Bulls and even Kroenke’s Colorado Rapids instead of the British teams that we play at least twice every season just to make the friendlies more interesting?

Friendlies are there for match fitness, tactical tinkering and affording opportunities to academy players. I’m sure most fans of the concerned clubs couldn’t care less about a friendly between Arsenal and Chelsea but will take more interest to one between Arsenal and LA Galaxy.

4 takeaways from Arsenal’s US pre-season tour

Arsenal went undefeated during their three-game US tour; defeating Everton, Orlando City, and Chelsea. But what were some of the biggest takeaways?

Pre-season tours are a chance for fans overseas to see their team play in the flesh – perhaps for the very first time. For Arsenal fans in the United States, this was their chance to watch the Gunners strut their stuff.

And boy, did they.

Arsenal won all three games, scored nine goals, and conceded just once. It was a great couple of weeks as the club welcomed Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko on board during the tour, adding to the Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, and Marquinhos signings.

We saw some scintillating football from Mikel Arteta’s side and some not-so-scintillating football, but that is what pre-season is about—getting the match fitness up to standard, developing cohesion within the squad while also allowing some of the younger players to get some game time.

For the most part, Arsenal’s tour of the US was an unbridled success, and they now return home to prepare to face Sevilla in the Emirates Cup before the opening Premier League game next Friday night.

The United States tour gave us plenty of things to be excited about. Here are my takeaways from the Gunners’ preseason in the States.

1. Arsenal’s support was huge

The Gunners have fans in every corner of the globe, so it’s no surprise that fans ultimately follow when the team goes away from its north London base.

This was seen in the US against Everton, Orlando City, and Chelsea; the stands were packed with red and white shirts. So much so that they dominated the percentage of fans in the stadiums, even against Chelsea.

We saw plenty of content from Arsenal’s social media as it was stuffed with thousands upon thousands of fans daily getting their merchandise signed or posing with players for pictures; it was a welcome sight.

There was no lack of support for the Gunners on their travels, and one can only imagine what it will be like at the Emirates when the team tackles Sevilla on the weekend.

How ‘authentic’ Arsenal are bringing north London culture to the United States

North London is Never Far Away.

At 10.30pm on Tuesday night in downtown Los Angeles, the motto underpinning Arsenal’s tour of the United States rings true.

Stationed in a red-brick warehouse block, The Beehive is swarming with close to a thousand fans, local influencers and Arsenal-supporting musicians as they celebrate Islington’s Finest — with a special cocktail even brewed for the occasion.

London DJ Siobhan Bell has repurposed the new shock-yellow kit as a two-piece outfit for her performance, while former players Gilberto Silva, Lauren and Ray Parlour mingle with supporters after doing a live podcast with fan media sites Arseblog and ArsenalVision.

Antslive, who fronted the video to launch the away shirt alongside other up-and-coming artists and first-team players Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli , is kitted out along with his hype man, who is orchestrating the crowd. The 23-year-old’s breakout track, Number One Candidate, will have only come into most fans’ consciousness as the soundtrack of the kit release.

Antslive’s affiliations became known to the club when his song went viral on TikTok, reaching over 1.4 million views. It helped that in the video, which saw him galloping past the Italian Dolomites on horseback, he wore a vintage Arsenal shirt and sported an Ian Wright-inspired gold tooth and flat cap.

If that sounds like doing things differently then that is because it is — which is why Arsenal saw him as the perfect partner for the launch.

The club is making a concerted attempt to cater for U.S. fans, now their primary international audience. Arsenal America is the umbrella group that brings all the supporters’ clubs together and, in total, there are 85 branches across 33 states.

That crowd in that defeat to Manchester United in New York last week looked like a 50-50 split in terms of shirts — a sign of Arsenal’s growing presence. It is no wonder that those at the top of the club have seen a change in the level of passion and fanaticism among the supporters compared to as recently as five years ago.

Over the last 20 years all the major clubs in England have come to the U.S. on tour and attempted to leverage their brand. Some have assaulted the eyes with stars and stripes, but Arsenal have been trying to do things in a distinct, non-gimmicky way.

After listening to feedback from their supporters in the U.S., Arsenal have established that they do not want an ‘Americanised’ version of the club sold to them. It may have been at a distance, but that fanbase have grown up with Arsenal, its heroes and everything the club stands for. They don’t want to be patronised or have English football culture watered down.

The club has identified that projecting Arsenal as not just a team but as a lifestyle — a vibrant north London culture accessible to metropolitan fans across the Atlantic — is helping to build a deeper connection.

It has been an organic realisation and, due to the positive response, the kit launch is another manifestation of the path they are now treading. It is based on the idea of projecting the best of Islington and bringing the creatives of the Arsenal community to a global stage, particularly coastal areas like New York and Los Angeles.

‘Islington FM’ is just the latest in a string of similarly themed videos.

Arsenal have sought to capitalise on the rich talent pool from within their fanbase. They hope that using someone like Antslive on their video helps strengthen that connection and resonates with new demographics, but also lifts young talents like the young north London rapper.

If they can create a ripple effect then that will only help generate a shared sense of belonging.

Alessio Russo’s announcement video features other cultural references from north London, whether it be street names, local chip shops or bus routes. But it also includes a fan wearing an LA t-shirt and another nod to the music scene with a newspaper cutting of Notting Hill Carnival headliners Rampage Sound System — who helped platform Dizzee Rascal, Bashy and Stormzy as new kids on the block.

Arsenal and Adidas work together closely on these projects and their Declan Rice signing announcement video saw them pull in leading sports presenter and Arsenal fan Laura Woods, while Manchester United fan Stormzy — who comes from south London — was brought in for a more comedic role to persuade him against signing.

“You ain’t born a Londoner, you’re made one,” says Ian Wright in the 2019-20 home kit video.

That feels like the starting point of the strategy in which the club’s raft of international stars lip sync cockney dialogue and actor Idris Elba, an Arsenal fan, has a cameo. They are selling Arsenal’s roots as the core of the club’s identity but offering worldwide supporters the chance to absorb it into their own fandom.

In the Antslive video there are various underground artists from London, while Wolf Alice bassist Theo Ellis features, as does Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp.

They are not catering for just one group. Diversity is a central part of everything Arsenal do.

The murals that were unveiled at the Emirates stadium earlier this year were an example of that — designer Reuben Dangoor helped put together art work featuring over 700 fans of different ages, races and genders to showcase the diversity of the club.

Mikel Arteta’s on-field speech at the end of the season thanked the fans for their “unconditional love” and nurturing that sentiment has been at the heart of the messaging to supporters. Arsenal are trying to reflect the unity and youthfulness on the pitch within that.

Arsenal have not shied away from social activism in recent years. The ‘No More Red’ all-white kit produced in reaction to rising knife crime figures in London was a particularly powerful message.

When the image of Aston Mack, founder of the Orlando Freedom Fighters, wearing his Arsenal top during the Black Lives Matters protests in 2020 went viral, they brought him to meet the players and gave him an enhanced platform to fight for equality. Then there was the racist abuse Saka faced after missing a penalty in the shootout of the final of Euro 2020, too, which sparked a wall of messages for the Hale End boy.

Following Arsenal on their U.S. tour it was striking just how prevalent Saka’s name is on the back of jerseys. For Black fans he is someone with whom they can identify; a player of such ability that he could go on to transcend the sport in the way few athletes can.

The club’s social media following in the U.S. now tops four million and is up 14 per cent since June last year. In total their overall global social media following is around 100 million.

The growing interest in Arsenal and the Premier League is shown by NBC’s coverage hitting 122 million households between August and November, with their total Premier League viewership increasing by 22 per cent in 2022.

Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Manchester United in February was the most-watched Premier League game in U.S. history at nearly two million viewers. Fans rise in the middle of the night to watch games. “These events mean a lot to us,” says Taylor Younani, branch manager of Arsenal Los Angeles who watches games at the Fox and Hounds pub in Studio City. “We don’t need to go to the Emirates every week as we go to the pub every weekend.

“We’re all there at 3.30am sometimes and on big game days it exceeds capacity at 300 people, so they have to turn some away.

“They’re making an attempt to unify us. Access to the game out here is relatively new so any effort from clubs to make us feel included is appreciated. These guys are my best friends from meeting each other at the pub. I went on my first date with my wife Heidi at the pub. She wasn’t a fan then but we got married there!”

Supporting a club that hasn’t experienced glory in some time can feel very much like a tired marriage.

Arsenal had become a jaded brand in danger of falling away from the pack if their seven-year absence from the Champions League had been further prolonged, but a memorable season last time out has helped imbue life back into the club.

There is a self-confidence, a swagger about the Arsenal brand again. By the looks of things, their U.S. followers are buying into it all.

For the second straight year, Arsenal will conduct a preseason tour of the United States.

The Gunners will be just one of several high-profile Premier League clubs traveling to the U.S. ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

Arsenal will be the opponent for the MLS All-Star Game in Washington, D.C., as the league returns to a format with a European opponent after facing a team of all-stars from Liga MX for two straight years.

Arsenal US tour: Upcoming fixtures and 33-man squad announced

Arsenal’s squad for the pre-season tour in the US has been revealed and some surprising names are part of the squad.

Arsenal have embarked on their trip to the US where they will play three fixtures across two cities.

The Gunners are set to take on Everton in Baltimore on Saturday, before games against Orlando City and Chelsea in Florida the week after.

The 33-man squad named for the trip includes players that did not feature in the wins over Ipswich Town and FC Nurnberg in Germany.

Bernd Leno, Hector Bellerin and Lucas Torreira are part of the travelling squad despite being linked with exits while Thomas Partey is also part of the squad in contrast to reports stating that he was set to be left out.

Arsenal are returning to the United States as part of their 2024 Summer Preseason schedule. The club announced matches against Manchester United and Liverpool , both scheduled for late July ahead of the 2024-25 season. It will be the third season in a row the Gunners have traveled to the U.S. as part of the preseason.

The Gunners will take on Manchester United at SoFi Stadium in L.A. on Saturday, July 27th. They’ll face Liverpool at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Wednesday, July 31st. Of course the team is playing another match at SoFi — that’s the stadium Stan Kroenke owns. The match against Liverpool will be the first time the two clubs have faced each other in the U.S., a mildly interesting factoid.

The club are reportedly looking to schedule a third match, likely targeting Las Vegas, according to Arseblog , but the details haven’t been confirmed.

Ticketing information is available on the club website . If you can swing it, I would highly recommend trying to get tickets. Seeing Arsenal play in person in Baltimore two summers ago and Washington, D.C. last summer were among the highlights of those years. It’s such a cool experience, difficult to properly describe with just words. The feeling and emotion is something I’ll never forget. Plus, watching the team in person, even in the preseason, gives you a much better understanding of how fast the play is that you cannot get from TV.

USA Tour update – Day 4 is matchday!

Day four of our USA Tour was matchday, with Everton our opponents at the M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore.

Frimmy was pitchside for the game, in front of a 40,000-crowd – the vast majority of whom were there to cheer on Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.

And they had plenty to cheer, especially when our summer signing fired us ahead in the first-half.
