How to Travel from Barcelona to Morocco by Plane, Ferry, and Train

barcelona trips morocco

Travelers from the U.S. who want to tour Morocco often find that the most affordable way to get there is to first fly to Spain and from there continue onward to Morocco. But what's the best city to arrive in Morocco? And what's the best way to get there?

If you're starting point is in Barcelona, the second question is easy: by plane. Even though Spain and Morocco are only separated by nine miles of water at the narrowest point of the Strait of Gibraltar, Barcelona is much farther away. You can take a ferry from Barcelona to Tangier on Morocco's northwest coast for a leisurely boat ride, but the trip takes over 24 hours.

Flying is the most direct route, and there are direct flights from Barcelona to Tangier, Marrakesh, Fes, Casablanca, and Nador. The other option would be to take the high-speed train from Barcelona to Malaga in the south of Spain. From Malaga, you can take a bus to the port city of Tarifa, and from Tarifa a short ferry to Tangier.

How to Get from Barcelona to Morocco

  • Flight: 2 hours, from $20
  • Ferry: 28 hours, 45 minutes, from $76

Without a doubt, the easiest and most realistic way to get from Barcelona to Morocco is by plane. Direct flights on budget airlines like RyanAir or Vueling get you to most cities in Morocco in about two hours, and flights can be as cheap as $20 for a one-way ticket. For a comprehensive trip of Morocco, the best way to plan your trip is to book a one-way flight to Tangier in the north, travel down the country toward Marrakesh, and then fly back to Barcelona from there (or, conversely, start in Marrakesh and fly home from Tangier). You can travel through Morocco on bus routes to major cities, or rent a car in Morocco and travel around yourself.

Low-cost airline Vueling flies direct from Barcelona to Tangier daily in under two hours, and flights start as low as $28. It's one of Morocco's northernmost cities, and on a clear day, you can even see Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar. Tangier Airport is about 20 minutes by taxi from the city center, and taxi is the only way to travel to and from the airport.

To Marrakesh

Of the cities that make up the "tourist circuit" in Morocco, Marrakesh is the farthest south. Known for its historic medina district and massive market, Marrakesh is an obligatory stop for most visitors to Morocco. The flight from Barcelona is about two and a half hours, and low-cost airlines Vueling and RyanAir both have direct flights between the two cities starting at $25 (be aware that RyanAir charges passengers even for a carry-on bag, so take that into consideration when purchasing tickets). From the airport, you can take an express bus to the city center in about 40 minutes, or a taxi in about 15 minutes.

To Casablanca, Fes, or Nador

Tangier and Marrakesh make the most logistical sense as a starting point in Morocco for most travelers since you can easily move around between them while visiting other cities along the way. However, Casablanca, Fes, and Nador also receive direct flights from Barcelona, and one of them may be the best place for the start of your trip. Explore all of your options and compare prices, and then decide the itinerary that works best for you.

If you are traveling from southern Spain, then you can easily and quickly take a ferry to Tangier or another port city in Morocco. Barcelona, on the other hand, is much closer to France than Morocco, and traveling by boat is not nearly as fast. The company GNV offers ferries from Barcelona to Nador and Tangier, although the trip to both cities takes about 29 hours. But if you aren't in a hurry and you consider that the ferry ride is essentially a Mediterranean cruise, then it could be just what you're looking for.

The ferry starts at $76 for a seat, but for a trip this long it's worth paying extra to have a bed. You can reserve a single bed in a four-bed dormitory for about $90, or an interior cabin for yourself starting at $138.

Ferries from Barcelona arrive at Tangier Med port, which is 40 minutes outside of the city center by car. You'll need to pay for a taxi upon arrival to get to the city of Tangier.

By Train, Bus, and Ferry

You can't take a train from Barcelona to Morocco, but if you wanted to explore more of Spain, you could take the high-speed AVE train from Barcelona to Malaga , in the southern region of Andalusia. From there, you must travel two hours by bus or car to the town of Tarifa , which is the southernmost point of continental Europe. Once in Tarifa, there are several daily ferries to the port in Tangier City (which is located in Tangier, not like the further out Tangier Med port as with the Barcelona ferry).

If you want to go directly from Barcelona to Morocco, then this route doesn't make much sense, as it will take you much longer and cost you significantly more than taking a plane. However, if you have time to explore Malaga or southern Spain, this could be a great way to get a second trip out of your vacation.

What to See in Morocco

The "tourist circuit" through Morocco usually consists of some combination of Tangier, Casablanca, Fes, Chefchaouen, Essaouira, and Marrakesh. Depending on how much time you have, visit as many as you see fit, or explore other cities like Ouarzazate in the Sahara Desert. If you have your own vehicle, you have more freedom to explore the country. But if you stick to the most popular tourist cities, you can use buses to travel around and not worry about driving.

The ferry journey to Nador or Tangier takes 29 hours to complete.

To fly from Barcelona to Tangier, Morocco takes just under two hours. The flight from Barcelona to Marrakesh takes two hours, 30 minutes. For Casablanca, Nador and Fes, direct flights take around two hours, give or take 15 minutes.

Flying will be your cheapest option with one way tickets starting as low as $25 on budget airlines.

My wife and I paid for seat selection to be together. My wife and I were on separate rows and the excuse they gave was they changed the plane. Also, I have celiac and asked for a gluten free meal in the ticket profile which they did not have.

Iberia personnel on the ground is so rude. I would think twice in the future before booking another Iberia flight

Seats, comfort level ugh. Crew was not attentive, only to coach

All corners have been cut and it’s a cheap experience that no longer is distinguished from most other cheap airlines

This flight was a code share for both Iberia and American Airlines and run by what I assume is a charter company Level. It was difficult if not impossible to get a seat assigned, check bags or use any customer service functions. I would skip it!

The entertainment system got stuck in the ABBA music channel. The headsets were not loud enough. My pre purchased aisle seat was not honoured

it would good to have at least something to drink...

I can’t comment on food as it was necessary to buy it. No entertainment.

Everything was fantastic except the Iberia website and app… they left a lot of questions and induced much stress. But once on the plane, all was awesome.

Premium economy class is pathetic. Rubbed shoulders with passenger next to me all flight. Only about 20 passengers in that class but they ran out of one food option shortly after started serving the main meal. Flight attendant was curt and acted annoyed when asked any questions.

The whole flight was coughing and farting all the way. It was impossible to breathe. If people are traveling sick they should either not be allowed to fly or made wear masks

I will never fly vueling. 1h30 delayed, connexion missed with the crew closing the boarding in front of us. 40 people missed the Barcelona-Orly connexion. hours waiting for rebooking and hotel.. inadmissible

Non stop flight from Barcelona to Rome, arriving on time.

3 hr flight from Barcelona to Gran Canaria. Ŵent according to plan No issues with staff oŕ flight. Many people includiñg us could not get luggage self checķ in termìnals to work. Had to wait in check in line.

The communication about the delay could have been better before and during the flight. Also, this online form could have less bugs. It is almost impossible to type in this window.

They stop online checkin above a certain capacity. We had to go to the airport to check-in at the desk. Or was offered to pay 7eur extra. Rip off.

I didn't get the wheelchair assistance I'd requested and my flight was on the tarmac, which was extremely painful for me. If this airline isn't for me, that's fine. The crew was fantastic and friendly ab

It was a short flight but the seat was very straight. I didn’t need any service, but wifi was not available. In resume, a normal service. Nice, the punctuality. Thanks

Bought check in baggage but couldn’t do it at the kiosk, had to line up just to get baggage tag which was a very long queue with only 1 customer service agent handling all vueling flights. Had to wait about 45mins just to get a bag tag and drop baggage.

Left on time and arrived on time both ways, thank you

Flights were on time. The crew was efficient and friendly.

O voo atrasou um bom bocado A tripulação não era comunicativa,não fez vendas... Não abordava os passageiros... A 1°vez que me acontece tal coisa 🤷‍♀️

Late again rude staff at gate bullying passengers made us stand in the cold 3degrees for 40 mins before they let us board

Is good airline but their check in process is not simple

Boarding at Arrecife was commended way too early. Far too long for elderly to be kept standing on their feet. Otherwise we’ll done to all staff.

Pretty good flights! If they can let y u s know regarding delays by announcing it in the PA system it would be a good business practice!

3 hours late, came at my final destination without any of my luggage.

Delays with no communication. Broken business class seat and no one seems to care or help.

The head of the flight attendants was very rude and impolite and insisted to know my nationality on flight while I had my Can passeport! against all rules!

I spent 4 hours untill get my bags no food no entertainment on the flight

Adequate. Served our purpose of getting there safely. Nothing to rave about. Decent value for the amount paid

Old planes that are not being maintained with at least basic cleaning. Plane smells awful, bathrooms not cleaned either. Customer service probably one of the worst I have experienced.

I lost my connection flight from Casablanca to Marrakech because we arrived late to Casablanca. I had to rent a car to continue my trip . I need refunds

Nothing. Everything, the service the delayed plane and communications to passengers, the boarding, the food access before flight, no aircon on the plane until high altitudes and super long wait for baggage claim with no direction on tv signs.

I thought it was great because the seats were really comfortable for the long flight. The food was just ok, and could have been a bit better.

The tour was enjoyable however there were times where the numbers of people who spoke various languages caused some confusion for the tourists. When we arrived at the tour stops it was very difficult to get served and to the rest rooms before the bus was due to leave. When we had the small English speaking group it was 100% better.. A number of the hotels had faulty bathrooms I.e. sink plug, toilet cistern continuing running. The tour guides were very pleasant and knowledgeable and very helpful.

Andalucia & Morocco Tour

Andalucia & Morocco

Overall a good value and strong itinerary. Friendly competent guides and local experts- especially in Côrdoba, Granada, and Toledo. Some of the hand-offs between guides during regional transitions were altogether lacking, primarily from Morocco back to Spain. It would have been nice if the Moroccan tour company Mundinmaroc had substituted an excursion to Chafchouen from the first day in Tangier instead of Meknes- which is presently largely inaccessible due to renovations. It was an unpleasant surprise having to tip each performance group at the optional handsomely priced dinner show in Fes. Our tour through Medina left of little freedom of choice on where and with whom to shop. Separately, please considered including gratuities in the fixed price to spare guests from being unexpectedly taxed and distracted or better prepare guests in advance. Many of the hotels and meals were excellent. On our trip, the accomodations in Fes which has a very striking lobby and pools, was unacceptable (we experienced no to limited access to in-room hot water and internet- including a room change. The hotel hasunsecure and spottyl internet and unreliable electricity throughout property. We witnessed multiple altercations between staff and customers. It was problematic that hotel did not accept credit cards for in restaurant and incidental purchases and had no ATM. The in-house "bank desk" offered significantly poor exchange rates. Most of the amenities at this property were limited or all together shuttered. It suffered some grounds maintenance issues- trash, wear, undisposed dead birds, weeds, deteriorating hardscape) the sum experience being unacceptable. The shuttle service from Tangier to Fes was led by a very friendly and knowledgeable local driver who was impressively equally competent in multiple languages. The shuttle van however us under sized for our group especially for the long drive. The route took us through some very scenic seaside vistas which would have made for a nice lunch had we known not to eat on the ferry over. A brief stop for photos amongst the sunflower fields would have made for a memorable experience. It also went through some very rough intensely trafficked, areas. We had the misfortune of serious mechanical problems on our return ferry back to Terrifa from Tangier resulting in violent turbulence causing many if not most passengers to suffer significant motion sickness. While this was clearly not in our guide's purview she made no effort to check on tour participants, offer resources to ailing guests, neither leading us thru barkation nor from debarkation through customs to our receiving guide. Fortunately our previous outgoing guide had done such a great job we were at least familiar with the route back. Beyond Morocco… The excursion in Córdoba was was spectacular, the hotel sub par, the dinner awful with surly dinner attendants. We took a self guided walking tour back to the illuminated Roman Bridge at night which seems could have been a very nice addition to the itinerary. Advance communication with accommodation details, available excursions, suggested sites to explore indepently, and advance notice on having small bills and lots of 5 Dirham coins in Morocco would have been helpful. It also would have been nice if the first guided had contacted us on the first day with an introduction and instructions on how to locate our group amongst the several tour companies departing at the same time and look cation in Lisbon. A running communication from VPT during guide transitions with an introduction, photo, and contact info would have been beneficial. The final drop off was also a little abrupt. We were fortunate to be familiar with the city of Madrid and ended up helping several somewhat stunned guests make their way to their next destination. We did enjoy ourselves, met many wonderful people from across the globe, and got experience some of the worlds greatest cultural and architectural sites all for a very fair price. Thank you.

Tour Radar and Destination Spain did not advise at any time that neither of them were actually the tour operators. As a result of this we were very close to not being picked up at all as there was a mix up with paperwork and we had no idea it was a different company. We will not go through a third party again. In saying that the actual tour itself was good. Guides were great, accommodation was excellent. Well done Julia Tours.

Spain, Portugal, and Morocco Adventure

The whole trip was a great experience. Our tour guide in Spain was the best, Sarah, was always giving us the best tips for a great adventure, excellent recommendations, and always very caring about our group. The group of fellow travelers was wonderful too, we made a great group. Morroco was great, our guides shared with us all their knowledge about that great country! Overall, there was walking involved, but totally doable and worth it!

Andalusia and Morocco from Barcelona Tour

Andalusia and Morocco from Barcelona

Everything was pretty good, the guides were great. My only major problem was that they changed our final day in Madrid to a final day in Toledo. I was really looking forward to Madrid as part of the trip, as advertised. The reason it was moved to Toledo was because of a prescheduled doctor's convention. I guess the hotels in Madrid were taken. This information was known to the public prior to me booking the trip. A better run company would known that the conference was taking place before advertising that Madrid was a final destination.

Excellent 18 day tour of Lisbon,Porto,Seville,Cordoba, Granada,Toledo,Salamanca,Costa delSol, Marrakesh,Casablanca,Meknes, Fez and more. Fascinating places made more fascinating by the excellent multilingual guides in all the cities we visited. Their knowledge and communication skills were great as was the overall organisation of the whole tour. Must give a shout out to Carmen and Lorenzo our guide and bus driver in Spain and Portugal. Our bus was always clean and cool until the ac failed so didn't get the chance to say thanks and farewell to Lorenzo as he had to take the bus back to Madrid to get the ac repaired.. The hotels were all 4* and were clean and comfortable. A great way to see multiple destinations but not a lot of time could be spent in each place.as a full itinerary. What people love about morocco and spain tours.

I took this trip with my family of 4 with 2 girls 10 and 12 at the end of March which is a good time to go. We had a great time. I was a bit worried about Morocco but it turned out to be very safe and the conditions of the hotels are excellant. I would recommend this trip for people who want to see Morocco. You will have better time if you can walk reasonably well. Sometimes we register about 20,000 steps a day. The meals are great. We felt safe the whole time with the guide. If you take this trip, going to the Sahara desert and riding the camel is a must! Surprisingly, we enjoyed the smaller places like Fes and near the desert than places like Casablanca or Rabat. If you just see Tangier, then you really have not seen Morocco.
Meticulously planned and executed... when there were 3 different subcontractors doing tours, we enjoyed each locations. Pros: Morocco tour was highlight, we were super relaxed and well informed throughout... I could easily give 6 out of 5 to them. Driver/guide went over and above to make sure we know history, gastronomy and culture - even arranged local bytes everywhere he could. Strait crossing handover between travel agencies was executed super smoothly ? Last part of the tour was done in private car, not bad, ex-teacher driving us and giving history lessons enroute was amazing. Made real good friend from Australia, perfect takeaway from tour. Cons: Bus during first part of tour was super noisy and uncomfortable, rarely got what guide explained. Once off bus, we can feel how much we missed out, as guide were knowledgeable. Human factor was missing.... tour was cultural tour, but people on tour weren't introduced to each-others or encouraged to eat at same table to get familiar. So, we got to know everything and everyone except other people traveling with us.
It was good, but tiring.

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain: Full Day Itinerary

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain

During our summer road trip through southern Europe, we heard about a day trip to Morocco from Spain that we could do. We knew straight away it was a trip we had to factor into our route. So, after a bit of research, we added the Spanish town of Tarifa to our itinerary. Located at the southernmost end of the Iberian Peninsula, this charming town looked more inviting to us than Algeciras, another popular ferry port. This guide outlines all the details on how to plan a trip to Tangier from the port of Tarifa.

Where is Tangier, Morocco?

Tangier is a large port city in Morocco located across the Strait of Gibraltar, where Africa meets Europe. At 27km (17 miles) from the Spanish coast, it’s one of the most popular Morocco day trip destinations from Spain. If you book the fast ferry, you can be there in an hour. So that is another reason why visitors choose to visit for the day.

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain

Is Tangier worth visiting from Spain?

Yes. I mean who wouldn’t want to step foot in Africa for the day if they could? Morocco had always intrigued me as a country and knowing we could do a day trip from Spain had me so excited. The thought of strolling through the old medina, eating some traditional Moroccan food and admiring the architecture was enough to convince me to book a trip. With a lot of things to see and do , you can fill your day or take it at your leisure depending on your interests.

Is Morocco safe?

Since taking the trip, I’ve been asked if it is safe for tourists to visit Morocco. At no point did I feel unsafe, but I should note I was travelling with my boyfriend. One thing we didn’t like was the constant pressure to explore the old medina with a guide. It was more of an annoyance than a safety concern, and I’ll give more details below. But it’s something to think about when planning a trip.

How do I get to Morocco from Spain?

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain: Tarifa Old Town

From the Spanish town of Tarifa. We chose to stay in Tarifa not only because it’s the closest spot to Morocco from Spain, but it also looked like such a charming town. The whitewashed streets are full of restaurants, history and a laid-back vibe. Algeciras is another port in Spain offering a day trip to Morocco, and although it’s larger than Tarifa it didn’t seem to have the same vibe.

barcelona trips morocco

I also recommend heading to  Bar El Francés   for either lunch or dinner while you’re there. It is a tapas bar and restaurant with the most amazing affordable food. If it doesn’t look like your kind of eatery some of the best tuna fishing takes place out of Tarifa. You’ll see it on many menus around town, and it’s a must try.

The Ferry Crossing – to Morocco from Spain

There are many companies offering ferry crossings. But for a day trip, I recommend taking the fast FRS Ferry  from Tarifa to Tangier Ville. The journey time is only one hour which frees up your time to explore more. We took the 11am ferry out and the 8pm ferry back, but there are several crossings daily.

barcelona trips morocco

Due to the time difference, you gain one hour on the way to Morocco and lose an hour returning to Spain. For example, we left Spain at 11am and arrived at the port at 11am local time as Morocco is one hour behind. On our return journey, we left Tangier at 8pm and arrived in Tarifa at 10pm local time, just in time to head out for a Spanish dinner.

We arrived at the ferry terminal 45 minutes before our sailing time. As soon as you board the ferry, join the line to have your passport checked and stamped by Moroccan customs. The queue forms quickly as every passenger has to go through this process before disembarking. We could still see some passengers waiting on arrival. There is also a café and snack area onboard, so after clearing customs, we enjoyed a drink while making the crossing.

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain - Strait of Gibraltar

Ferry Port Tour Guides

When we exited the ferry into the port, I’d read we’d encounter locals trying to sell us different guides and tours… WOW, there were a lot! I felt like we were prepared to handle them but, a word of warning they’re relentless and will follow you. I recommend picking up a guide once you’re inside the old medina or arranging one before you travel . The locals at the ferry terminal have extremely inflated prices, and I’m not sure how much value for money they provide. There are also options to bundle areas like the medina and Hercules Caves together in one tour. In hindsight, this is what we should have done.

What is there to see and do in Tangier?

Tangier is full of old Moroccan charm and in one day you’ll really get a sense of the culture and country.

barcelona trips morocco

The Old Medina

The Old Medina was hands down the highlight of the day for me. Strolling through the narrow and compact streets gave me major Aladdin vibes. I loved how colourful everything was and also the alleyways, courtyards and details of the architecture. Being the old, fortified area of the city there is a real sense of history and culture.

We fully expected to wander these streets on our own after shaking off the guides at the port. But we picked up a local guide just as we were making our way to the entrance of the medina. He was pretty persistent and full-on but having him show us around turned out to be the best thing that happened. He was very friendly and explained the history and meaning behind a lot of the buildings and highlighted things that would have passed us by otherwise. The guide did try to take us to a few shops owned by his friends but a simple ‘no thank you’ was exchanged and that was the end of it, no hard sell like other places I’ve experienced in the past. It’s a good idea to pick up some souvenirs or locally crafted items in this area.

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain - Medina Homes in Tangier

We did go back to the medina towards the end of the day but we were hounded by people again. Everyone was trying to give us another tour around and it became too much. We paid someone a minimal amount to leave us alone. So, I recommend having a guide in this area and making sure you see everything you want to while they’re with you.

Tangier City

After exploring the old medina, we continued to check out the city of Tangier. They’re pretty close to each other so it’s a natural way to explore on foot. It has the feel of a typical city with office blocks, bars, restaurants and shopping with a little bit of mayhem thrown in. We stopped to enjoy a coffee at Gran Café de Paris, a bustling spot on a busy corner. I’d read about it before our trip, and it’s a nice place to take a break and do some people watching.

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain - Tanja Marina Bay

After strolling along the main street, we took a walk to the Corniche de Tanger. It’s a promenade area running parallel to the city beach with lovely tropical landscaping. It’s also a pedestrian-friendly area and leads right along to the Tangier Marina Bay.

Tanja Marina Bay

barcelona trips morocco

In the bay of Tangier is a relatively new marina development called Tanja Marina Bay. It’s a huge urban marina with a shopping complex, restaurants and some incredible views looking back towards the old medina, the beaches and the city. We had a walk around and sat down for some ice cream and soaked in the views. It has a completely different vibe to the old city, and it’s worth checking out. This splash of modern architecture and leisure scene is the type of thing I’ve seen in Dubai, and it brings a nice blend of old and new to the city.

Where to Eat a Traditional Moroccan Lunch?

As we were only exploring Tangier for one day, I wanted to try out some authentic Moroccan tagine for lunch. I did some research beforehand as I have to find somewhere that will cater to a gluten free diet. I’m glad I did as our guide took us to a small local haunt and unfortunately, they could only offer me a salad.

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain - Gluten Free Tagine, traditional Moroccan Lunch

Rif Kebdani is located in the old medina vicinity, it’s both a tourist and local favourite. Although it looked to be a bit higher in price the reviews and gluten free options made it a clear winner for us. We were not disappointed. The decor was charming, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We ordered the lamb and vegetable tagine. They also recommended their shrimp avocado salad which was delicious, and Will tried out some of their desserts. I recommend trying them out.

What should I wear on a day trip to Morocco?

barcelona trips morocco

Morocco is a Muslim country, so for women keeping your shoulders and knees covered will make you feel more comfortable while you’re visiting. I decided to wear a midi-skirt and a t-shirt with a pair of open-toe sandals. We visited during August, so the temperature was pretty hot. But it was important to me to keep cool, stylish and respectful during our day trip. I didn’t experience any unwanted attention, but I was with my boyfriend which likely helped. If you are a solo female, I highly recommend dressing modestly.

Day Trip to Morocco from Spain - Laura & Will

So to wrap up, would I take a day trip to Morocco from Spain again, specifically Tangier? The short answer is no, I feel like we saw all we wanted to in Tangier and I’m so happy we experienced it the way we did. A day trip is the perfect amount of time, and it has reaffirmed how much I’d love to explore other areas of Morocco on my future travels.

Thanks for reading, I hope this has been a useful guide to planning a day trip to Morocco from Spain. Do you know of any more things in Tangier that should make it onto this list? Have you visited Tangier already? Let me know in the comments below or find me on  Instagram .

Never hear of this potential day trip before, but it sounds like a fantastic one to do. I’ve always wanted to visit Morocco too, so I would also grab the opportunity to step foot into the country even if it was only for a day. Tangier looked beautiful on your photos so I hope I can do this trip in the future.

I hadn’t heard too much about it either but it turned out to be perfect. I hope you can visit one day, it’s definitely beautiful

I am from south Spain, and I’ve considered travelling to Morocco from Tarifa before, but I haven’t done it yet. This is a very useful guide that I will keep for future reference. I can’t wait to visit Morocco and explore Old Medina.

The ferry is quite expensive but worth it in my opinion. I hope you make it across there one day!

Hi, thank you for the information. I’m a bit confused, it sounds like you wouldn’t do it again from what you wrote below. Therefore, would you not recommend a day trip?

31 January 2023 at 16:23

Hi Shannon, I absolutely recommend it. I feel after one day I experienced what Tangier had to offer, and that’s the reason I wouldn’t do it again. But I’d love to explore more of Morocco.

Hi, thanks for this helpful blog post! Would there be parking in Tarifa (especially near the boat departure) if we drove a car in?

27 February 2023 at 19:45

Good question! I did see parking at the port but I’m not sure if anyone can park there or what the fees are. Tarifa is a small town, so I’d recommend finding a public parking area in town as a backup just in case. It’ll be easy to walk to the port. Enjoy your trip 🙂

Thanks for sharing, my wife and I are traveling to Europe for the very first time in NOV-DEC to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We’re starting in Portugal, then Italy, Spain and we decided to cut our Madrid stay short by 2 days and are considering an overnight trip to Morocco, though we’re still not 100%. We prefer Airbnb but in Morocco are leaning towards a hotel for one night. Any thoughts on that? Also, do you recommend a site or someone for a day trip tour in advance?

13 September 2023 at 11:19

Hi Hector, firstly congratulations on your 25-year wedding anniversary! It sounds like you have a great trip planned. I recommend staying in a riad, a traditional Moroccan home that has been converted into a B&B type accommodation. They’re usually cheaper than hotels and offer a unique stay and glimpse into an aspect of Moroccan life. In regard to the day trip tour – what type of activities or things would you like to see?

4 October 2023 at 15:11

Hi, thank you and thanks so much for your reply! Apologies for the delay in my response.

We honestly want to see what the city is all about, visit the Medina, shops, good coffee shops and restaurants etc. Not really looking to leave the city unless the right opportunity presents itself.
