The BayArena is a football stadium in North Rhine-Westphalia, home to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

Recently renovated in 2009 at a cost of €70 million, the ground has a league match capacity of 30,210 and is in the process of becoming a 5-star UEFA stadium.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen Stadium Guide

Bayarena history.

The BayArena is the home of Bayern Leverkusen and the stadium today from the outside bears little to no resemblance to the original ground which opened on the 2nd of August 1958.

Known then as Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion, Leverkusen’s first version of the BayArena had a capacity of 22,500 before being expanded to 27,000 in 1986. Numerous additions were made to the ground in the 1990s as well including a hotel, a new scoreboard and VIP seating.

Both the East and West stands were reconstructed which resulted in a fully-enclosed stadium. Essentially becoming a pure footballing Arena, the ground’s name was changed to BayArena in 1997 to reflect this new direction.

The gamble paid off and by the mid 2000s the club began to grow and even reached the Champions League final in 2001 – 2002 season before falling slightly short against Real Madrid .

An increase in the club’s revenue was reinvested in the stadium in 2008 as part of a Modernisation program and it was this stadium redevelopment that gives the BayArena it’s iconic structure and design as we see it today.

The capacity includes 2,500 terrace spots and the colour of the seats was changed from green to red, reflecting Bayern Leverkusen’s traditional colours.

The 70 million euro redevelopment also saw the addition of a large cylindrical roof, and the first Bundesliga Match was held on the 15th August 2009 against 1899 Hoffenheim , with the German national team taking on South Africa in a friendly a a month later to mark the stadiums redevelopment.

For now the stadium is complete but Bayer 04 Leverkusen are always exploring new ways to enhance the match day experience.

In April 2013 they announced plans to create a Multimedia experience with the installation of over 500 HD monitors and 350 wireless internet access points throughout the stands, as well as an interactive app which has exclusive content, games and player ratings for fans during the match.

BayArena is comprised of four sections which correspond to points on the compass: Nordbereich, Ostbereich, Sudbereich and Westbereich.

Matchday Experience

Bayarena away section.

Away fans who make the trip to BayArena are housed within the south-west corner between the south stand which contains a lot of the executive boxes and western section which is regarded as the main stand.

Capable of seating around 2,500 travelling supporters, the area is fenced off from the home section and is essentially located opposite the Leverkusen Ultras in the north stand in order to create a better atmosphere throughout the stadium.

The fact that the area feels relatively compact when full helps also helps create a sense of camaraderie amongst the travelling faithful. Spanning across two-tiers with the lower section being much larger, occasionally away fans are permitted to sit in the adjacent block if the demand requires it and the away allocation needs to be increased.

Best Pubs near ground

One of the smallest city’s in the Rhine Region with a population of around 161,000, Leverkusen hasn’t got the most diverse range of watering holes but thanks to its working-class traditions there are a good number of traditional pubs around the city.

The map below outlines a few but to be honest most fans prefer to drink at the stadium itself.

Food - Places to eat

BayArena is famously the first stadium in Europe to have a McDonalds restaurant at the ground, and predictably it usually does a roaring trade on matchdays.

There’s also the Pille Sportbar which has a fair selection of food, but most of the options are to be found in the concourses. Run by Bayer Gastronomie, fans can purchase the usual fast-food options such as fries, pretzels and hot dogs although this must be done so using the cashless card system.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen Club Shop

Exterior of Bayer 04 Leverkusen club shop

Bayer Leverkusen operate 2 club shops around the city in addition to their own official online store: There is one located at the BayArena known as the stadium store which is open for a few hours on matchdays as well as one within the city centre at “Wiesdorfer place 9, 51373, Leverkusen.”

The opening times for the “Leverkusen City” shop are listed below.

Opening Hours

  • Monay to Friday: 10.00 am – 8.00 pm
  • Saturday: 10.00 am – 6.00 pm

Can you take a stadium Tour?

Bayer 04 offer fully guided stadium tours of their home ground, BayArena, for the bargain price of just €9.00 for adults.

Taking in such sights as the players’ changing room, the manager’s dugout, the press room, the tunnel and VIP areas, tours start at either 11:00 am or 3:00 pm once or twice a week. Tours depart from the entrance to Viini which is on the east side of BayArena across from McDonalds.

To book your tour or to find out more information you can either phone +49 (0) 1805 040404, send an email to [email protected] or visit the official site.

How to buy Bayer 04 Leverkusen Tickets

Tickets to see Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the BayArena can either be purchased online, via phone (+49 (0) 1805 040404), or at one of the two listed Bayer 04 shops listed above.

Ticket prices are divided into three categories depending on who the opposition is:

The lowest profile matches (Category C) starting at €10.00 for a place on the terrace, €12.00 for an high up seat behind the goal and around €26.00 for something central within the main stand.

Category A for the highest profile matches against the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund start at €18.00 for standing, and anywhere between €36.00 to €76.00 for seats behind the goal and in the main stand.

How to get to BayArena

Where is bayarena.

Leverkusen is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, located in the West of Germany near to the Borders of Belguim and Netherlands. BayArena is located out of town within an area known as Stadtpark.

BayArena is conveniently located nearby to where the A1 and A3 stretch of motorways intersect, although A1 does not have an exit specifically for the stadium which makes the latter the better choice.

The address of BayArena is as follows:

  • Bismarckstraße 122, 51373 Leverkusen

Located out of town there are numerous car-parks around the stadium which can be used on matchdays, most of which are free. One such example is “Kurtekotten”.

The closest International flight hub to Leverkusen is Cologne Bonn-Airport which is around 26km South of the city.

As the seventh largest passenger airport in Germany serving over 9.3 million passengers in 2012 alone, the airport is well connected to the rest of Europe, which makes seeing Bayer Leverkusen play football a very easy proposition.

Once you have landed you can travel to Leverkusen in 15 minutes via the S-Bahn train line which was mentioned in the “Train section” above.

Hotels Near BayArena

The nearest hotel to the BayArena is the 200 room Linder Hotel which is on the site of the stadium next to the McDonalds which was built at around a similar time.

We’ve bemoaned the lack of traditional city centre in Leverkusen already in this guide so I won’t go back into it in more detail but what I will say is that it doesn’t make recommending an area to stay very easy.

As all I can give you is names of Hotels, I recommend Hotel Fück or Best Western Leoso Hotel Leverkusen.

The BayArena: A guide to the house that Bayer Leverkusen built

The BayArena - or 'home' as Bayer Leverkusen call it - is a forward-thinking stadium for a forward-thinking club.

Die Werkself have been making weekly pilgrimages to the BayArena since 1958, when the stadium first opened its gates as the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion, named after the former chairman of Bayer AG, the pharmaceutical company that founded the Rhineland club.

The stadium's design was based on Bochum's Ruhrstadion, and was built section by section over the years, growing bit by bit alongside the demands of the club.

Back then it held 20,000 spectators, before Bayer added a further 2,500 seats in 1997 and in the process became the first all-seater stadium in Germany. It was renamed the BayArena the following year.

Watch: Bayer Leverkusen - all you need to know!

Further redevelopment took place between summer 2008 and 15 August 2009, when the remodelled BayArena was unveiled with its unique nest-like roof structure and enough space for 30,000 football fans.

Leverkusen christened the stadium with a 1-0 win over Hoffenheim , a fitting way to celebrate their newly refurbished surrounds.

The BayArena hosted its first Germany international on 18 December 1991 as Die Mannschaft routed Luxembourg 4-0, and it also staged four FIFA Women's World Cup matches in 2011.

At the forefront of stadia technology, the BayArena broadcast the first live Bundesliga match in 3D when Leverkusen played Hamburg on 14 March 2010.

Want more Bundesliga Action?

By car: Your two best options for navigating your way to the BayArena are via the A3 motorway at either exit 22 or 24. Both eventually pass under the A3, with the stadium signposted as you work your way along.

Parking:  Bayer provide free parking on Matchdays at Kurtekotten, which opens two hours ahead of kick-off at the Chempark S-Bahn station. You can access the car park via Otto-Bayer Straße, from where shuttle buses run between the car parks and the Am Stadtpark terminus which is a short walk from the ground. Disabled parking is just opposite the stadium, next to McDonald's.

By train:  There are a number of options if you're travelling by train, where most long-distance commutes will journey via Cologne Central Station. Head for any of Leverkusen Mitte, Leverkusen Schlebusch or Opladen Station and you're about a 10-15 minute walk away.

Generally speaking, tickets are relatively easy to come by, although they become hot property when the big boys come to town, or on Rhineland derby dates with Cologne , Fortuna Düsseldorf or Borussia Mönchengladbach . You can purchase tickets at the stadium, over the phone (+49 214 5000 1904) and online.

The aforementioned McDonald's does a roaring trade on matchdays, but there are also a number of food and beverage options inside the BayArena, ranging from VIP fine dining to bratwursts in a bun at one of the many kiosks.

The beer garden at the North West section and the Schwadbud in the East Stand are perfect for a pre-game bite, with ample options for refreshment.

Previously, you needed to top up and make payments on a BayArena card, but as of the 2019/20 season supporters can now use contactless payments with their bank cards, Apple or Google Pay.

Merchandise

If you're visiting by train, you may be tempted to swing by the club shop in the heart of Leverkusen, a stone's throw from Leverkusen Mitte. Otherwise, the club shop in situ at the BayArena is open Monday-Friday and also on Matchdays where you can shop to your heart's content as long as you have a ticket to the game.

You'll also find a couple of official pop-up stalls around the outside of the ground, each bulging with shirts and scarves.

There are many tours of the BayArena you can take, all of which offer a behind-the-scenes look at Leverkusen. There's the 90-minute public guided tour, as well as a barrier-free offering for the elderly, people with mobility issues and the disabled, with each costing six euros for kids and 10 euros for adults.

Groups of up to 12 kids aged 14 and under are also available, as are private tours that the club can design according to what you want to see. Possibly the best offering, however, comes on Bundesliga matchdays when you can soak up the early atmosphere at the ground with a 45-minute tour of the stadium's mixed zones and dugouts while walking through the tunnel out to the pitch just hours before the players do so themselves. For more information or to make a booking, click here.

Did you know?

Next door to the stadium is the club's 'Werkstatt', an innovative training facility for injury prevention and rehabilitation. The 2,200-square-metre centre attracts leading sportsmen and women from around the world, and counts NBA legend Kobe Bryant among its former patients. The ex-Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard made a number of trips to the Werkstatt's ice chamber during a storied career.

BayArena, Bayer Leverkusen-Bayern Munich, Bundesliga, Sat Feb 6, 6.30pm CET/5.30pm UK time.

The conglomeration of Leverkusen has grown in tandem with the local football club and its parent company, pharmarceutical giant Bayer. When the club was formed a century ago, this area just over the Rhine from Cologne was nothing but a grouping of small settlements. Four joined together to form the town of Leverkusen in 1930. The more tourist-friendly settlement of Opladen joined after the war.

The club owes much to the worldwide success of headache tablets. This modest local pharmaceutical company, co-founded by Friedrich Bayer, patented the aspirin in America the same year that they founded their sports club, 1904. Aspirin went on to become the world’s biggest selling painkiller, taken to the moon by Neil Armstrong.

After a century-long transformation from village factory team to international contenders, Bayer 04 Leverkusen are now seasoned competitors in Europe’s premier competition.

The football section of the Bayer works’ sports club, formed in 1904, played lower-league football until reaching the Oberliga West in 1951, the highest regional level before the Bundesliga was formed 12 years later. The club soon built the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion, over the water from the sports park where the part-timers had been playing for 25 years.

While Schalke and Dortmund joined the new league in 1963, Leverkusen went to the Regionalliga. There followed a few fallow seasons before promotion, under wily old Willibert Kremer, in 1979. Under Erich Ribbeck, the club gained a foothold in the top flight, and surprised everyone by beating Espanyol on penalties in the UEFA Cup final of 1988, clawing back a 3-0 deficit from the away leg. Star of the show was Cha Bum-Kun, whose late equaliser tied the fixture, the highlight of his near 200 games for the club.

But it was under ambitious general manager Reiner Clemunt that Bayer Leverkusen really took off. Over ten years, he had the Ulrich-Haberland converted into the BayArena , completed in 1997.

Equally accommodating to business clients as to ever-increasing standing fans, the 30,000-capacity stadium is the perfect example of how to serve a community of 160,000 people while confidently hosting the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United on European nights.

Bayer Leverkusen BayArena

Picking up quality East Germans Ulf Kirsten and Andreas Thom, the rotund ‘Calli’ Clemunt persuaded Rudi Voller and Bernd Schuster to join Leverkusen, who rarely failed to finish top six. The prolific Kirsten scored the only goal of the 1993 cup final, Leverkusen’s only domestic silverware in 25 years of near misses.

The cruellest came in 2002. With another top East German, Michael Ballack, plus Bernd Schneider, Oliver Neuville and key Brazlians Ze Roberto and Lucio, Leverkusen were sailing to the title before Dortmund pipped them. Ballack and company had also beaten Liverpool and Manchester United en route to the Champions League Final, decided by a wonder strike by Zinedine Zidane. Bayer even lost in the final of the German Cup, to Schalke, despite opening the scoring with rising star Dimitar Berbatov.

As a separate entity, despite the tag of ‘Neverkusen’ for second-place finishes, Bayer’s consistency has been remarkable – only once out of the top ten since 1999.

Jupp Heynckes arrived as coach in 2009. Overseeing talented young striker Stefan Kiessling, Heynckes steered Bayer back to a Champions League spot.

Kiessling was top Bundesliga scorer as Leverkusen claimed third place in 2013, with fourth place achieved in the last two seasons.

At the BayArena, the main standing C sector remains at the corner of the home Nordbereich and the Ostbereich along the sidelines but is now complemented by areas across sector D and E along the whole North End.

The visitors’ sector, also with a lower standing area, remains sector G in the opposite corner, between the Sudbereich behind the goal and the main Westbereich which houses the club shop and press area. The Lindner Hotel is found behind the Nordbereich.

At Mitte, head to platform 5 and exit the station walking back parallel to the rails from the way you came. At a stream, turn right – the stadium is ahead, altogether 10mins from Mitte.

City buses serve communities around Leverkusen, match tickets valid for the journey 4hrs before kick-off. The hourly No.203 runs from Leverkusen Mitte to the Sportpark Manfort stop by the stadium 7mins and five stops away.

Tickets are distributed from the Bayer 04-Shop (Tue-Fri 11am-6pm, Sat 10am-2pm, 2hrs before kick-off) near the Lindner Hotel. Ticket windows are behind the Ostbereich, by main Bismarckstrasse behind the stadium.

There is also an online service at https://ticketshop.bayer04.de. Prices vary according to the opposition. Against lesser teams, you can find tickets for €16 in the corners and behind the goals, €23-26 everywhere else, €32-37 for a better class of visiting team, when it’s €20-26 in the corners and behind the goal.

The Bayer 04-Shop (Tue-Fri 11am-6pm, Sat 10am-2pm, 2hrs before kick-off, 45mins after game) behind the Nordbereich carries curiosities such as Stefan Kiessling’s recipe book, sets of Kolsch beer glasses and candles.

The Classic-Tour (€9/€5 3-14s) is bookable for Wed & Fri 3pm & 6pm, Sat 1pm and Sun 11am except on match days. Visitors should meet at the Bayer-04 Shop behind the Nordbereich 15mins beforehand. Book through [email protected] .

Leverkusen3

Signposted on Bismarckstrasse right across from the stadium, Pille is a must. Behind an indoor football pitch are a sports bar and large beer garden, perfect for a Kolsch while watching the sun set over the BayArena. There’s a children’s playground too.

At the stadium, snazzy lounge match-day bar/restaurant Calcio on the first floor of the Südbereich attracts an upscale clientele.

Bayer Leverkusen BayArena

Leverkusen has one of Germany’s best stadium hotels, the four-star Lindner Hotel BayArena , built into the North Stand of the ground. It offers match-night packages of room, ticket plus €10 credit on a stadium card, breakfast and a drink in its bar. There are VIP packages too. Sauna, steam and gym are also on hand. The upscale bar/restaurant, Winner’s Place , with its numerous TVs for sport, is for hotel guests only on match days.

BayArena: Bayer Leverkusen

bayern leverkusen stadium tour

Fynn Korsen / Flickr.com

Though the BayArena has been home to Bayer Leverkusen since 1958, it’s slightly misleading to suggest that the ground that exists now is the same one that opened all those years ago. Back then it was called Ulrich Haberland Stadium and was named after one of the former chairmen of Bayer AG – the pharmaceutical company that founded and owns the club. It used to have a capacity of 20,000.

In the 1980s a remodeling project was undertaken that developed different parts of the stadium at different times. Nowadays the ground is considered to have a very modern and contemporary feel, but in actual fact that was purely coincidental. The demands of a modern football stadium change from decade to decade and in the 1990s, in the middle of construction, they changed once more and so the design plan of the new ground changed too.

BayArena Seating Plan and Where to Sit

bayern leverkusen stadium tour

Three sides of the stadium are two-tiered sections separated by a row of executive boxes. These are called Nordbereich, Ostbereich, and Westbereich thanks to their geographical location. There is one other section of the ground, the Sudbereich, that does not match up with the rest of the stadium. That’s because it is where a hotel is located, with a number of the rooms overlooking the pitch.

Bayer Leverkusen Ticket Prices

To be totally honest, the ticket pricing at the BayArena is a complicated affair, but at least they give you the information unlike most other European teams. Tickets are broken into four different categories with different prices available depending on your age. There are further prices for disabled supporters. We have done our best to simplify it a little below:

  • Adults: Cat .I = €50 / Cat .II = €40 / Cat .III = €30 / Cat .IV = €15
  • Concessions: Cat .I = €43 / Cat .II = €34 / Cat .III = €25 / Cat .IV = €11

How To Get Bayer Leverkusen Tickets

As with most major football clubs, Leverkusen’s official website is the best place to start for tickets. After that you can call the ticket office directly or pick up tickets from official retailers throughout the city.

Getting To BayArena

Leverkusen is in the North Rhine-Westphalia area of Germany. Here are some of the usual transportation options you’ll want to consider using to get to the ground:

Train – The journey from London to Leverkusen takes around five hours by train. You’ll want to get the Eurostar from St. Pancras International to Bruxelles-Midi before changing onto an ICE train to Koln. From there you’ll get an internal train to Leverkusen Mitte and you’ll be able to see the stadium from the train station.

Bus – Most local buses in Leverkusen will stop on Bismarckstraße near to the ground. Bus numbers 201, 233 and 255 are the ones to look out for.

Car – BayArena is pretty much in the middle of Leverkusen and can be found next to where the A1 and A3 motorways come together. There’s no exit for the ground on the A1, so take the A3 and leave at exit 24 before following the signs.

By Air – Cologne/Bonn airport is about an hour away from Leverkusen by train, whilst Dusseldorf Airport is more like an hour and a half away and also has train connections.

Taxi – A taxi from Leverkusen Mitte to BayArena will take just over five minutes and should cost in the region of €9.

BayArena Hotels

Leverkusen isn’t one of Germany’s more popular cities to visit, but they’ve still got more than a few hotels. Here are some of our favoured options:

Leverkusen is something of an industrial city as far as its origins are concerned, so there are a number of decent boozers you might want to pop into before you go to see a match:

Winners’ Place im Lindner Leverkusen

Carmens taverna.

The modernity of the ground means that the facilities here are excellent. There are all of the usual places you’d expect to be able to buy food and drinks in the ground, plus the views are great from pretty much everywhere.

Hospitality

bayern leverkusen stadium tour

There are 7 match day hospitality experiences on offer at BayArena, but unless you want to sign up for the year then the one that will be most appropriate for you is probably the Event Box North, which can be booked along with accommodation at the hotel which adjoins it. It comes with a dedicated member of service staff to look after you, hot and cold buffet food, four car parking spaces for up to 14 guests and brilliant views. If there are more of you then the Event Lodge East offers pretty much the same deal but can accommodate between 30-60 guests, minus the hotel connection.

Private Hire

There are no less than 11 suites and executive boxes that are available for use for things like conferences, product launches and business meetings. If you’re interested then drop the club a line and they’ll let you know what exactly you can do. They can cater for anything up to 800 people.

Stadium Tours & Museum

Tours of the BayArena operate on a regular basis and you can do numerous different types of tour. There’s the Public Tour that takes you to all of the places you’d expect, such as the subs’ bench and the dressing rooms. There’s also a Private Tour option on offer when you can see things like the hospitality areas with a more exclusive feel. There are also tours on match days where you can see preparations getting underway. Tours last between 45 minutes to an hour and a half and cost upwards of €10 for adults, €8 for concessions and €6 for kids. At the time of writing there is no museum but the tour does take you to areas containing Bayer Leverkusen memorabilia.

About Bayer Leverkusen

bayern leverkusen stadium tour

Bayer AG aren’t just Bayer Leverkusen’s owners, they’re also the main reason the club even exists. The team was formed in 1904 by employees of the pharmaceutical company who wrote to the managers and requested support for a sports team. They got it, and Turn- und Spielverein Bayer 04 Leverkusen was formed. In 1999 the football part was separated from the athletics, basketball and gymnastics departments of TSV Bayer 04 and became simply Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Bayer have never won the Bundesliga, though they have finished as runners-up in the top-flight on five occasions, including four seasons in a row from 1996-1997 to 2001-2002. They’ve won the DFB Pokal/German Cup once, the UEFA Cup once and lost in the Champions League final once. Leverkusen have a clean-cut image and the BayArena is considered to be the most family friendly stadium in the Bundesliga. This has led Bayer’s rivals to refer to them as a ‘plastic club’ that exists purely as a plaything of their sponsors and owners.

BayArena History

bayern leverkusen stadium tour

Opened in 1958 with a 20,000 seat capacity, a rebuilding of the stadium to change it into a more modern facility began in 1986 and was finally completed eleven years later. the original design was based on the same design as the Ruhrstadion in Bochum, home of VfL Bochum. They wanted a steep, single-tier stadium without a running track. The idea was that the club would build the East section in 1986, the Western part in 1989 and the Northern area in 1991.

The relative success of the World Cup in the USA in 1994 led to the idea of adding what was called a ‘Family Street’ to the ground. It was the first such family friendly area in German football. It was considered to be a huge success and in the 1996-1997 season the area was moved to a larger part of the ground. The BayArena was also the first ground in the country to become all-seater.

Future Developments

bayern leverkusen stadium tour

In 2009 the ground underwent more refurbishment, and new scoreboards were added in 2020 along with a few other updates, meaning there are no immediate plans to change anything any further.

BayArena | Bayer Leverkusen stadium

What is the BayArena like?

It is a modern stadium that has been refurbished over the years to bring it up to the required standards for a Bundesliga ground, today.

From its halcyon days as the Ulrich-Haberland Stadion, major re-development took place in 1986 to transform the arena and further modernisation was carried out in 2007.

It enjoys plenty of space outside and in the vicinity of the stadium building, so further expansion or maintenance will likely be possible in the future.

What is the BayArena capacity?

With a capacity of 30,210, the BayArena is a mid-sized venue on par with the likes of Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena and St Pauli’s Millerntor Stadion.

Is the BayArena a EURO 2024 host stadium?

The BayArena will not be a host stadium for Euro 2024.

However, football fans in the city of Leverkusen will not have far to travel to join the party.

In the state of North Rhine Westphalia where the city is located, it is a hotbed of football with a few of Bayer’s neighbouring clubs set to see World Cup games played at their home stadiums.

FC Köln , Borussia Dortmund , Fortuna Dusseldorf and Schalke will all be hosting games next summer.

Bayer Leverkusen stadium tours at the BayArena

The full price for the 90-minute stadium tour is €10 for adults, with a child’s ticket costing just €6.

Matchday tickets for the BayArena

Matchday tickets can be purchased online from Bayer Leverkusen’s ticket portal here: https://www.bayer04.de/en-us/shop/tickets

Prices for single-game tickets to see Die Werkself are very affordable, reflecting the sensible approach that is taken in Germany allowing ordinary people to get along to support their club.

Ticket prices vary from €15 to €50 depending on the stand and category you are allocated, as well as the fixture.

Generally, tickets will be available to members and season ticket holders before any public sale goes live.

How to get to the BayArena?

As usual on Football Ground Guide, we advise you to use public transport to get to the stadium and you will be well-served in Germany.

Parking is limited at the BayArena but there is a shuttle service.

Parking is available at Kurtekotten – at the “Chempark” S-Bahn station – from two hours before the start of the match. The car parks can be reached via Otto-Bayer Straße (Cologne).

The shuttle bus service commences two hours before the game, it will start travelling from Kurtekotten to the BayArena, ending at the street “Am Stadtpark”. From there, it is a short walk to the stadium.

You can avail of the same service for two hours after the game is finished.

What is BayArena like for visiting and away fans?

Away fans are located in the southwest corner of the stadium, including basic seating and standing options.

The area offers an unrestricted view of the action, at a level that is closer to the pitch than most grounds.

Away supporters will have food and drink provisions available, both outside and inside the BayArena.

Bars and restaurants near the Bayer Leverkusen stadium

There are several bars and restaurants to visit near the stadium, whilst you will have plenty of fast food options to choose from.

Street drinking is legal in Germany. You will see people congregating, talking and enjoying each other’s company with a can or bottle. The reason you will also see some others collecting the empties in large numbers is due to the deposit scheme on bottles which means you can earn a few Euros if you wish.

Winner’s Place, Haus am Park and Pizzeria Da Franco are three restaurant options near the stadium.

Schwadbad (at the stadium), BAX biergarten and Brauhaus Janes a re all located on Bismarckstrasse, next to the BayArena for a cold German beer.

Hotels near the BayArena

As a small industrial city, Leverkusen is not Cologne or Dusseldorf in terms of its scale and provisions, but there is ample hotel space if you wish to stay close to the BayArena.

Hotels such as Lindner Hotel (adjacent to the football ground), Leoso Hotel, Ibis Budget Cologne Leverkusen , and Hotel am Stadion are all located less than a mile from the home of Bayer Leverkusen if you want to stay in the city.

Who are Bayer Leverkusen's rivals?

The primary football rivalry in the North Rhine Westphalia region is that between 1. FC Köln and Borussia Mönchengladbach , but games between the three clubs will often be referred to as a Rhine Derby in different contexts.

Bayer Leverkusen’s main rivals would be 1. FC Köln , as much as the Billy Goats would see ‘Gladbach as their true rivals.

The close proximity of the respective cities creates local rivalry and tension in games between Bayer and Cologne, even if the Leverkusen club have had the upper hand in recent decades in their fortunes on the pitch.
