Touring LG’s high-tech camping trailer at CES 2024

Anything lg you’ve seen or read about in the last ten years may be inside this thing..

LG’s Labs department often takes technology and existing products and spins them into lifestyle-heavy ideas and notions. LG Labs was responsible for the Dukebox , a vacuum tube-driven speaker with a transparent OLED screen, an LG Gram with two displays, and several other projects. But the LG Bon Voyage concept trailer is a little more involved, packing so many of LG’s CES “greatest hits,” retooled and restyled for near-future camping that’s both incredibly comfortable and… unlikely.

The trailer measures two meters by 3.8 meters, measuring up to a height of 2.2 meters. LG’s explanation suggests you’d be able to pick and choose which appliances and features are included.

This is an upgraded concept trailer from LG, this time it’s taken feedback from customers (though it’s never gone on sale, so it must mean prospective customers). The redesign is aimed at better use of space, and practically every corner has LG tech crammed into it.

A touchscreen panel on the trailer door runs webOS, offering an interface to the trailer alongside pertinent information like weather, charge capacity and more. A spokesperson said the concept trailer here at CES 2024 housed a 10kWh battery.

LG Labs’ inexplicable capsule coffee machine, the Duobo , which looks like a moon lander, is nestled away inside the trailer, alongside a microwave. The fridge, however, is accessed on the outside. A pull-out table, on the other side of the door includes a built-in inductive burner. This trailer may possibly have more cooking options than your home. Somewhere inside, although I wasn’t able to see it, was a water purifier and a row of detachable light bars can be set up outside the trailer when you actually want to spend time in the great outdoors.

And a blast from CES past, LG included its Styler device — a clothes refresher that jostles and steams clothing, into the trailer too, because you can’t be glamping without glamor. There’s also a shower and toilet, but neither feature any connected technology, as far as I could tell .

LG is considering including solar to power all that technology, but there’s a giant charging port on the rear. It’s going to need a lot of power. Beyond lifestyle devices, the left side of the Bon Voyage features a giant OLED screen above another pull-out surface. Oh, and at the rear of the trailer, there’s a portable karaoke set, with two wireless mics and speaker. Oh and cocktail accouterments on either side. Do I have to repeat myself? Glamping .

LG plans to continue developing the Bon Voyage. And if Sony can make a car, why can’t LG launch a trailer?

This Wild New Camping Trailer Comes from a Very Unexpected Brand

A vision of future camping comes to CES 2024, courtesy of … LG?

Camping goes well with all sorts of other experiences: cooking, hiking, exploring, even sleeping. On the flip side, though, if there’s one activity that feels like it qualifies as the anthesis of camping … it’s staring at screens. With the wonders of the natural world all around you, keeping your eyes affixed to a black mirror feels like an affront.

So we’ll fully admit to being a little surprised to see LG — a brand known best for televisions and computer monitors, at least in the U.S. — roll out a new product that feels like the opposite of staring at a screen: a camping trailer.

The trailer is called the LG Bon Voyage, and the South Korean company revealed it at CES 2024. (This is actually the second version of the Bon Voyage, but the old one was less of a camper and more of a rolling house disguised as a cargo container. ) At 7 feet 4 inches tall, 6 feet 7 inches wide and 12 feet 6 inches deep inside, it’s very much on the smaller size of camping trailers — it’s even tinier than the pocket-sized X-Camp 300 . The presence of angular glass windows towards the rear and what appears to be a moonroof suggest it should feel at least somewhat airy inside, however; in addition, there appear to be several gear locker doors on the exterior, suggesting a decent amount of storage.

LG says the Bon Voyage can be kitted out with features from a bed to a water purifier, an electric stove to a refrigerator — and even, apparently, some sort of “shoe care” apparatus. (The single image the brand released shows it boasting a wine rack behind the drop-down tailgate / bench, so we’re guessing that’s in the mix, too.)

LG didn’t specify how much the Bon Voyage weighs, but given the compact size and the fact that the brand says it can be “connected to a car,” we’d guess it’s meant to be on the lighter side — the sort of towable that can be easily karted around by a crossover.

Not that you should really plan on affixing the Bon Voyage to your Crosstrek Wilderness anytime soon. LG made no statement as to the possibility of production — in fact, the trailer comes from LG Labs, which the brand describes as “a marketing platform focused on delivering experimental yet innovative products and services,” which makes us seriously doubt it’ll make its way to production. As a proof of concept, however, it’s a cool idea — and one we hope camping trailer manufacturers take a look at for inspiration as they plot their futures.

LG didn’t share any info about power requirements, but all the amenities it has outlined could run on electricity. As such, the Bon Voyage could be plugged into a battery and operate off-grid. It could also plug directly into an EV with power outlet, meaning the tow vehicle could double as a energy source.

In addition to the new trailer, LG unveiled several other innovative products, including its first see-through TV , a modernized DukeBox that combines vacuum tube audio with OLED technology, and a capsule coffee machine inspired by space exploration.

In terms of other new camping companions, Pebble presented an all-electric trailer called the Pebble Flow at this year’s trade show. AC Future also unveiled a futuristic RV concept created in partnership with Pininfarina.

LG’s updated Bon Voyage trailer does not yet have a release date, but there are plenty of other top-notch trailers on the market.

New LG Bon Voyage Trailer is Feature-Packed as Tiny House on Wheels

In August 2023, LG Labs – South Korean tech giant’s marketing platform focused on delivering innovative products – released Bon Voyage at Wanderlust Korea in Seoul. The 20-square-meter, two-story open structure was conceived with diagonal corridors, ergonomic stairs, and built-in elements to study housing culture trends. Fast-forward five months and LG Labs has upgraded the first version of its Bon Voyage into a camping trailer.

Readied to bewilder the world at CES 2024 , the LG trailer is designed to reflect the various voices of customers. It forms part of the company’s lineup of innovative and pioneering new products for Vegas.

LG is not an architecture firm, nor is it aligned with the idea of solving housing woes. But that’s not an image the electronics giant probably wants to go with into 2024. In 2023, thus, LG came out with not one but two mobile housing projects. After the Bon Voyage, LG Smart Cottage – a prefabricated, energy-efficient tiny house – was unveiled at the IFA in Berlin.

Developed with a concoction of natural materials, HVAC systems, and solar capabilities, LG Smart Cottage was made with low-carbon steel materials. This could ideally be the construction material of the new Bon Voyage. There is no information on this, but at least the image (above) depicts our hunch could have a substance.

There may not be clarity on the construction material of the upgraded Bon Voyage, but what is evident from the LG press brief is that it is a customized living space that can extend the home comfort out into the nature. For this, the trailer can be easily parked in your driveway or connected to a car for a trip out into the wilderness.

The camping trailer is 7 feet high, 6.5 feet wide, and measures over 12 feet in depth. The cozy living space, of this perfectly sized trailer, featuring a fully functional kitchen is optimized for utilization and mobility. LG trailer is packed with the company’s stunning appliances and high-end furniture including a bed. The kitchen in the rear hatch is provided with an electric stove, water purifier, and refrigerator.

LG has this knack of fashioning its intermittently unveiled tiny living units for the off-grid, embedding alternative sources of energy – primarily solar panels – and fresh and gray water resources. This reflects that the new LG compact dwelling could have energy-efficient features added to the plan when it rolls out. Before we make conclusions, let’s wait until the LG keynote at CES to have more insight on the Bon Voyage 2.0.

I love bending nature to my will, but the Bon Voyage concept trailer is... something. LG’s experimental Labs group has fitted this beast with a bed and bathroom as usual, but also a wine bar, outdoor beer fridge, karaoke machine, an external TV revealed behind a fold-down table, a second pull-out table with integrated induction cooktop, that  stupid Duobo coffee creature , and one of those  clothing sanitizers LG has been bringing to CES for years but I’ll never understand.

LG’s redesigned camping trailer gives glamping a tech makeover

Spending a nice day or two in the great outdoors doesn’t mean you have to give up on creature comforts, and LG’s camping trailer showcased at CES 2024 takes these comforts to another level altogether.

According to its official statement about its LG Labs exhibition booth, one of its upcoming showcase products included the upgraded, revised LG Bon Voyage . It’s a redesigned version of an existing camping trailer/caravan that brings home-quality living into the great outdoors.

Besides increasing its space (now 2m wide, 3.8m deep, and 2.2m high), the Bon Voyage can be furnished with and power a host of furniture and appliances. LG said it can handle having a bed, refrigerator, electric stove, water purifier, an LG Styler (for clothes), and shoe care products. The Bon Voyage is also made to be towable by a car. At this point, it’s like packing half your living room and kitchen to go camping with you. We can imagine it being a suitable rental option for car owners who don’t mind a short glamping stay.

LG’s Bon Voyage Camper Trailer Comes Equipped with an Exterior Wine Bar

While other brands were debuting AI-powered gadgetry, cutting-edge television sets, and the latest smart home innovations at last week’s CES trade show, tech brand LG (who also unveiled its modernized DukeBox OLED jukebox and showcased its new DUOBO capsule coffee maker) introduced us to the latest version of its Bon Voyage travel trailer from its experimental sublabel LG Labs, proving that if you’re looking for a luxurious glamping experience , take it from a renowned tech giant.

This isn’t the first time LG has ventured into the trailer realm. Last year, the company introduced the first iteration of the Bon Voyage. However, it was completely different than the one just unveiled. Looking like a tiny mobile home rather than a camping solution, the dual-axle Bon Voyage 1.0 now seemed more like a prototype than it did a product to be released. LG listened to user feedback and shrunk down the design to what it is now, and we couldn’t be more impressed. 

As of yet, there aren’t a lot of specs or images that have been released of the trailer . However, we do know that the unit has the dimensions of 6.6ft wide, 12.5ft long, and 7.2ft high. While aiming to balance practicality and luxury, all within a compact space, LG suggests that you can optimize the inside how you want, with furniture and appliance options, such as a bed, refrigerator, electric stove, and water purifier. From the photos provided, we can see what appears to be a wine bar in the back, which opens up for a rear entry. Meanwhile, other unofficial photos from the CES show floor have revealed to us some integrated options such as a pull-out kitchen and dining setup on the outside, an outdoor TV lounge, and even some sort of karaoke machine.

Unlike the first Bon Voyage, this latest update seems to be more likely to hit the consumer market at some point, if ever. Stay tuned on LG’s website for more updates.

LG introduced a handful of automotive-related products at CES and now we’re taking a look at the Alpha-able mobility concept.

Pitched as a “personalized digital cave,” the concept is built around the themes of Transformable, Explorable, and Relaxable. Starting with the first, LG believes the interior of the future should be able to “physically transform to suit different situations or purposes; turning into a restaurant to dine, an office to work in, or even a movie theatre-on-wheels.”

In order to deliver this, the concept is equipped with transparent, flexible and rollable displays that come in a variety of form factors. The company also made use of home appliance technologies, but they didn’t elaborate.

On the Explorable side, LG wants vehicles to “understand the unique context of each journey, factoring in travel destination, travel duration and other variables to realize a smarter journey complete with tailored content recommendations.” The company believes this could be achieved by artificial intelligence as voice assistants could deliver more relevant information and options.

For those looking to relax, LG envisions owners could slip into heated massaging seats while screens display calming scenes such as a “beautiful virtual garden.” The company even mentioned an “AI counseling session to help them unpack their day.”

Besides the Alpha-able, LG introduced a new Bon Voyage. It’s now the size of a small camper as it apparently measures 12.4 feet (3.8 meters) long, 6.6 feet (2 meters) wide, and 7.2 feet (2.2 meters) tall.

It’s billed as a “customized living space designed to extend the life quality at home to nature.” As such, it features a large upper compartment that can be outfitted with a bed. The model can also be equipped with a refrigerator, water purifier, and an electric stove.

2024 Bon Voyage Trailer is LG’s foray into designing intelligent life solutions

LG has been a force to reckon with at CES 2024. Especially with the amazing set of TVs it has brought to Vegas. This includes the show-stopper 77-inch wireless, transparent OLED TV that lets you use it as a décor item you can peep beyond, when you’re not enjoying your regular dose of entertainment on it.

Of course, new speakers, TVs and other forms of consumer tech are expected from the South Korean tech company. What is really not a given is a micro-housing solution for adventurers. But that’s what LG Labs, the company’s marketing division for innovative products – has on exhibit at CES in the form of 2024 Bon Voyage camping trailer.

The Bon Voyage trailer is, frankly then, LG’s foray into designing intelligent life solutions for the masses. This trailer is based on the bigger tiny living solution – with the same name – released back at the Wanderlust Korea 2023. It was a duplex home built with 20sq meter of living space comprising diagonal corridors and ergonomic stairs.

The idea behind creation of the Bon Voyage was to understand the trends in housing culture and to gauge what people wanted. Through the received feedback, LG Labs has now scaled down the Bon Voyage – showing off at CES – into the size of the towable trailer which can be trailed behind your electric vehicle.

Designed as a cozy personal space on the road, the new Bon Voyage trailer is 7 feet high, 6.6 feet wide, and over 12 feet long. In this little space, LG has managed to stuff a range of furniture, storage, and a bed. It makes the living space well-lighted with the use of large glass windows and a side entry.

The basic construction is done with the use of low-carbon steel materials presumably, and it features a flatter roof for limited headspace. With the sleeping space tucked toward the front, the tailgate has a functional kitchen stocked up with an electric stove, water purifier, and refrigerator. From how things appear, there is no bathroom, but we would like to believe LG has a portable toilet and a section for bathing within. The battery-powered Bon Voyage trailer doesn’t have a price or availability going its way at the time of writing, but the battery-powered camping solution, should be apt for off-grid tours with an option solar panel set-up.

SINGAPORE, Jan. 3, 2024 — LG Electronics is gearing up to showcase its latest lineup of innovative and pioneering products at CES 2024, the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition.

LG will dedicate a special exhibition space to LG Labs, its marketing platform focused on delivering experimental yet innovative products and services. This year, the size of the LG Labs zone has more than doubled compared to CES 2023, aiming to present creative ideas tailored to various lifestyles and offering diverse customer experiences.

One of the highlights of the exhibition will be the unveiling of the DukeBox by LG Labs , an innovative audio product that seamlessly combines the charm of vacuum tube audio with cutting-edge transparent OLED panel technology. It aims to deliver a new music experience by combining old-fashioned sensibilities with state-of-the-art technology, reinventing the depth of audio and video experience with a modernized jukebox. With front-facing speakers at the bottom and a 360-degree speaker at the top, it offers an immersive audio experience that surrounds the listener.

The transparency of the OLED display can be adjusted, creating a captivating visual effect reminiscent of a vacuum tube audio system enclosed in a transparent glass box. Moreover, the DukeBox is versatile and can be used to enjoy high-quality content such as movies, or even create a cosy fireplace ambience where the vacuum tube is visible amidst the flickering flames.

LG will also unveil an upgraded version of its Bon Voyage by LG Labs , a customized living space designed to extend the life quality at home out into nature. Based on customer feedback, the Bon Voyage has been redesigned to the size of a camping trailer, optimizing space utilization and mobility. With dimensions of 2 metres in width , 3.8 metres in length , and 2.2 metres in height, it can be furnished with various furniture and appliances, including a bed, refrigerator, electric stove, water purifier, Styler and shoe care products. Its versatility allows for comfortable enjoyment anywhere, with the ability to be easily parked indoors and connected to a car.

Another exciting product to be showcased is the DUOBO by LG Labs , a capsule coffee machine that extracts two different coffee capsules simultaneously. Inspired by space exploration, the DUOBO was introduced through a crowdfunding campaign in the US. The exhibition space will feature a large model of the DUOBO together with the space pet character CUBO, creating an inviting atmosphere for global customers.

In addition, LG plans to exhibit other products such as the LG CineBeam Qube , LG Gram Fold , LG XBOOM , LG StanbyMe Go , LG Tiiun Mini and brid.zzz by LG Labs , all born from the company’s fearless approach to taking on bold challenges.

bon [maiden] voyage

An amatuer adeventurer abroad, dis core course trip to moscow.

Hi all Maiden Voyagers! I really dropped the ball on documenting my last travel week but I’m gonna pick it back up and give you all the deets on Russia!

So! For my core course, Globalization and European Economies, we travel to Moscow for five or six days learning all about Russian Economies and Culture. After a surprisingly short flight we landed on Sunday afternoon and headed to the Red Square. Stepping off the bus was like entering another world. The enormous, ornate architecture is breath taking. And of course, the first snow you see each year is magical. (Well, this was no novelty to the locals as I’d learn. It snowed every day we were there.)

DIS packs quite the itinerary, and we didn’t rest for a minute! Every second was action packed with metro riding, lectures at institutions, or cultural visits. Here’s the highlights of all three!

Metro Riding:

Gosh did we do a lot of it. You might be puzzled why metro riding gets its own category. Well for one we took it everywhere which adds up. But, this is no ordinary metro. It was built under soviet rule and is a representation of Soviet power. Each station is decorated in ornate mosaics, statues, stained glass, chandeliers, you name it. All of the art portrays happy, hard working Soviets with a bounty of resources. Absolutely beautiful propaganda.

Institutional Lectures

DIS certainly meets its goal of making this an educational experience. We visited up to two institutions a day learning all about Russia. I know more about the Russian economy than maybe some Russians. It’s very dependent on oil prices, and is cursed with its resource dependence. While all of the institutions said they wanted to move away from oil, it was apparent that green alternatives weren’t gaining popularity yet. That’s what I took away from our many visits, but here’s a list of my favorites: the Bank of Russia, Sberbank, The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the IMF Russia, the Carnegie Foundation Russia, just to name a few!

Cultural Visits

We had fewer cultural stops than educational ones, but DIS still squeezed it in there. We had some great cultural food like Borscht and Stroganoff. We toured the Red Square and the Kremlin, and got to spend a night with real Russian students making tangible cultural exchanges (excuse the goofy photo).

And that’s it! Did it seem like a whirlwind? Because it was! I was so exhausted I slept for a whole day when we got home. An experience of a lifetime for sure! Bon Maiden Voyage!
