Skyrim:Breezehome

breezehome tour

Breezehome is a house that can be purchased in Whiterun .

breezehome tour

Breezehome is the first home offered to you during the main quest. Breezehome is the cheapest house available for purchase in Skyrim , but it is also the only house in Skyrim that does not have an arcane enchanter .

The house is conveniently placed just inside the entrance to Whiterun, next to Warmaiden's . This makes Breezehome useful for a character who frequently uses Smithing , as a full set of the stations are right next door.

To purchase the home, you must first complete the Bleak Falls Barrow quest for the Jarl of Whiterun. Upon completion he will permit you to purchase the house from Proventus Avenicci for 5,000 gold. The total cost of the house (including all upgrades) is 6,800 gold, or 6,550 gold if you have Hearthfire installed and choose to forgo the alchemy laboratory in favor of a children's bedroom.

If you are having trouble finding Proventus you can get a quest marker on him through a miscellaneous task given by his daughter Adrianne Avenicci , who can usually be found outside of Warmaiden's, just inside the gates to Whiterun .

If you have completed Dragon Rising , Lydia will be appointed as your housecarl and a small bedroom will be added upstairs for her. Her bedroom includes a dresser, an end table, a sack, and an owned bed.

Once purchased, Proventus will provide a book, Whiterun Home Decorating Guide , which details the various house upgrades available from him. Proventus will only sell upgrades while actually inside Dragonsreach . If he is on the Great Porch or his bedroom, the option to decorate your house will not be available.

If the Stormcloaks take over Whiterun , Proventus will move to Solitude and no longer offer you any upgrades. Instead, Brill will be able to sell you upgrades in Dragonsreach after that.

It consists of only one zone, which is the interior.

Residents [ edit ]

House items [ edit ].

breezehome tour

When first purchased, prior to any upgrades being bought, it is dirty, covered with dust and cobwebs. It has a double bed and an empty chest upstairs. Downstairs there is a long wooden table and bench. The only other items are crates, a couple of unusable chairs and an unlit firepit. If you have already been made a Thane , Lydia's room will already be fully furnished, cleaned and walled off from the rest of the loft. There are no other internal walls.

There are items that are in the house when you purchase upgrades (see below).

  • The apothecary's satchel contains some rare ingredients .
  • Two iron greatswords and one iron shield are placed on a shield plaque above the bed after you purchase the bedroom upgrade. The other plaque and racks are empty upon purchase.

House Upgrades [ edit ]

‡ These can be bought to replace each other at will, the option to replace with each other remains permanently available. % The contents of the chest on the bookcase in the Alchemy Lab is retained in the chest on the wall shelf in Children's Bedroom and vice versa. * This is removed from the house if you install the Children's Bedroom and returned empty if you revert the room to an Alchemy Lab.

Notes [ edit ]

breezehome tour

  • This is the only purchasable home in the base game that you do not have to purchase in order to become thane. If you complete the quest Dragon Rising while Balgruuf the Greater is jarl , you will become thane, with or without Breezehome.
  • You may want to remove books from the bookcase in the Alchemy Lab before converting it to a Child's Bedroom with the Hearthfire add-on. Books will remain in the room and the ones from the bottom shelf will be under the bed, rendered inaccessible.
  • The apothecary's satchel is safe. if you replace the Alchemy Lab with the Children's Bedroom, it will still hold the same items when reverted back to an Alchemy Lab.
  • The contents of the chest on the floor in the Children's Bedroom are emptied onto the top chest and remain there, should you change back to a Child's bedroom. [ verification needed ]
  • Other than exceptions outlined above, all other containers are safe and non-respawning .
  • I like it here. The tree in the park is so pretty! (girls)
  • Braith is a big meanie. She keeps telling Lars ' n me what to do. I don't wanna play with her anymore. (girls)
  • I played with Lucia in the park today. I feel sorry for her. (girls)
  • Dragonsreach is so cool! All the kids there are mean, though. (boys)
  • Lars is such a milk-drinker. He can't even stand up to a girl. (boys)
  • As well as can be expected. Dear, this house would work for the two of us, but with children? We need to find a bigger place.
  • Just fine. Whiterun is a lovely city, and there are so many other children here- they all love playing together.
  • Couldn't be better. Whiterun is perfect for a child- great weather, plenty of space, friends to play with. What more could you want?
  • Fine, fine. Plenty of kids here to play and spar with. Plenty of trades to learn. It's a good place to raise a child.
  • Initially, the player was going to encounter a squatter, Terek , in Breezehome, but he did not make it into the final game.

Bugs [ edit ]

  • There are a few bugs which affect all houses, see the bugs section of the Houses page for details and fixes.
  • The Official Skyrim Patch , version 1.3.7, fixes this bug.
  • Upon completing the Battle for Whiterun , Breezehome will be unlocked even if you have not purchased the house. However, the steward still requires you to purchase the house for 5000 gold.
  • You can buy it from him when he enters Dragonsreach .

Gold

Acquisition

It can be purchased from Proventus Avenicci after the Jarl  of Whiterun, Balgruuf the Greater , allows the purchasing of property, or from Brill if the Dragonborn has completed the " Battle for Whiterun " for the Stormcloaks . It can be bought immediately after retrieving the Dragonstone for the quest " Bleak Falls Barrow ." Proventus Avenicci or Brill do not sell upgrades when they are on the porch of Dragonsreach , only in the dining room.

Siding with the Stormcloaks during the Civil War requires the Dragonborn to perform certain tasks, as well as purchase Breezehome, in order to reinstate themselves as Thane of Whiterun.

Advantages and disadvantages

Breezehome is an inexpensive home and can be easily acquired early in the game, but it is the only home that lacks an enchanting table  and mannequin . In order to enchant in Whiterun, the Dragonborn must exit Breezehome (one transition), head to Dragonsreach, then enter (another transition) and walk up the steps to the enchanting table.

For members of the Thieves Guild , the fence in Whiterun, Mallus Maccius , is located outside of the city entirely, at Honningbrew Meadery  following the Thieves Guild quest " Dampened Spirits ," requiring fast-travel and extra transitions any time the Dragonborn wishes to move stolen goods. However, this is not an issue with the Fence perk at 90 speech.

Breezehome is, however, convenient for blacksmiths due to its proximity to Warmaiden's, the Skyforge , and wood chopping blocks DG for creating arrows.

In the Hearthfire add-on, a courier will deliver a message called Breezehome Furnishings , which allows the Dragonborn to buy an extra room for the Adoption of children. This upgrade will replace the alchemy lab , although the option to change upgrades will always remain available. Any items stored in the barrel next to the staircase will then be moved to the nearby cupboard.

After the house is purchased, Proventus or Brill will sell upgrades for the property:

There is also a guest bedroom upgrade to the house that is added after becoming Thane of Whiterun and Lydia becomes the Thane's housecarl . If the title is granted before purchasing Breezehome's deed, the room furnishings are already present. Once Lydia is dismissed of her duties as a follower , she returns here.

Item displays

  • 2 Weapon Racks
  • 2 Weapon Plaque
  • 1 Shield Plaque
  • 4 Bookshelves (holding a total of 58 books)

See Whiterun Home Decorating Guide for more detailed descriptions.

Location of home.

  • If dialogue with an NPC is not completed before entering Breezehome, they follow the Dragonborn inside. They immediately leave upon finishing their dialogue. However, this is a common occurrence for all houses.
  • Decorating an area of the house removes spiderwebs and boxes.
  • This house can be accessed during the Battle for Whiterun, but the beds cannot be slept in and the upgrades cannot be purchased.
  • During " Diplomatic Immunity ," Delphine removes the key to Breezehome from the inventory. It can be reacquired from the chest in the Sleeping Giant Inn .
  • Adopted children living at Breezehome may comment on the sorry state of the Gildergreen (until the quest " The Blessings of Nature " is completed). They may also mention playing with Lucia in the park, and feeling sorry for her (unless she has also been adopted).
  • If Lydia is not spoken to when she appears in Dragonsreach when the title of Thane is given, she will not appear in Breezehome when it has been purchased, though her room will still be furnished. This can be exploited (by avoiding talking with her when in Dragonsreach) if one does not want her in their home.
  • The bed in the master bedroom is not upgraded when the bedroom upgrade is bought; it remains as it was when the house was first purchased.
  • Spouses will comment on Breezehome if living there and will have different comments if asked how the children are doing. They will respond that the city is a positive place for children, with safety and playmates in abundance, but may also remark that the house is too small for all of them.
  • Breezehome's door will relock itself during the Battle of Whiterun. If the Dragonborn has children living there at the time, they will express fear and beg them to stop the siege. The house can also be struck by the flaming catapult projectiles, but will receive no damage.

Screen Rant

Skyrim: how to get a house in whiterun for free.

In Skyrim, the player house in Whiterun called Breezehome can be purchased for 5,000 gold. However, there's a secret way to get it for free.

Getting Breezehome for free is one of the best ways for players to make a home for themselves in Skyrim . After defending Whiterun from a dragon attack during the Dragon Rising main quest, Jarl Balgruuf will make you a Thane of Whiterun. As Thane, you have the right to purchase and own property in the city, including the Breezehome starter house.

Breezehome isn't necessarily the best house to buy in Skyrim , but it's a rather cozy starter property in one of Skyrim's most interesting cities . Its location near Warmaiden's, the city's local smithy and armor shop, makes it a convenient property to own. However, the asking price of 5,000 Gold is rather steep if you've just started your adventures, so you can use a clever exploit to get it for free.

How To Get Whiterun's Breezehome For Free In Skyrim

To get Breezehome for free, you need to have 5,000 Gold in your inventory to cover the price of the house ; however, by using the exploit you won't actually spend any of it. Start by finding Proventus Avenicci, the Jarl's steward, and speak to him just as he's about to sleep or get up from bed.

Proventus' living quarters can be found in the Jarl's Quarters in Dragonsreach Keep. His room is the first door on the right as you enter the Jarl's Quarters.

Proventus has three different wardrobes in his room. You need to position your character, so one of these wardrobes is as close as possible.

Before speaking to Proventus, it's highly recommended that you quicksave, so you can reload and try again if you fail your first attempt. Make sure a wardrobe is within easy reach.

While Proventus is next to a wardrobe, interact with him to start a dialogue and select " I'd like to purchase a house in the city" and "I'll take it" to buy the house.

As soon as you've selected the final dialogue option, exit the dialogue and immediately open the nearby wardrobe while Proventus is still speaking . You'll need to open the wardrobe before the jingle sound effect plays, which indicates you've spent Gold.

Store all of your Gold in the wardrobe and exit. If you've managed to pull off this exploit, you'll still receive the Key to Breezehome for free, and the Whiterun Home Decorating Guide which allows you to purchase additional house upgrades. Make sure to grab your Gold from the wardrobe before leaving to check out your new home.

How To Upgrade Breezehome For Free In Skyrim

When you first purchase Breezehome, it's rather barebones. You can renovate by purchasing various house upgrades from Proventus:

As such, a fully upgraded Breezehome will cost you over 1,000 Gold more. However, you can use the same exploit to purchase house upgrades for free.

To do this, speak to Proventus while he's in the room behind the Jarl's throne, which has a war table and a chest beside it . Ask him to purchase each upgrade, exit the dialogue and store all of your Gold in the chest.

You can repeat this several times until you've purchased all of the house upgrades. Proventus will only sell house upgrades when he's in Dragonsreach, not the Jarl's Quarters, but the exploit still works.

An alternative to buying Breezehome is to marry Ysolda, a local merchant and one of Skyrim's best female marriage candidates . Ysolda has a home in Whiterun you can share if she's married. This doesn't cost anything, but you'll have to complete her Rare Gifts side quest before you can marry her.

Ultimately, Breezehome is likely to be just the first home you purchase in Skyrim. However, getting Breezehome for free and upgrading it for free will save you a lot of Gold. This allows you to save up your Skyrim Gold for other, more important purchases.

Passive House living

The Breezehouse 2100 is an iconic home. It was first designed around Blu's signature glass-filled Breezespace to seamlessly connect airy, open interiors with the natural beauty of the outdoors. It's perfect for warmer weather climates, like California living. Dvele has kept all the features that make the Breezehouse so special, but have optimized the design with more climate resilient feature.

A modern modular home in California.

Seeing is believing

The Breezehouse 2100 now spans across 2559 sq ft, offering more entertaining space while also providing 3 large private bedrooms, each with their own walk-in-closets. The Whytecliff, formerly the Breezehouse, is an excellent option for your growing family.

More energy efficient than traditional, stick-framed construction

Modules produced to date with 200+ in the pipeline

Less cost of ownership over the 100-year lifetime of the home

We merged our companies to amplify the impact a healthy home makes on the environment and the people living in them.

Climate-resilient

Using building science methods developed over 20 years, Dvele has designed a building envelope that significantly reduces the thermal bridging — heating and cooling gain/loss — associated with most inefficient homes. By it's nature, the house is created to keep you comfortable and safe in any climate or region. Combined with Dvele's Self-Powered™ system — clean energy production and storage — your home will remain powered during electrical grid failures, which are becoming more common during wildfires and coldsnaps.

Backed by data

Of all the global emissions, about 42% are directly connected to the home construction industry. This is all the carbon produced through the process of manufacturing the materials and products that go into the house, the lengths contractors drive to each site, and the appliances we use to operate the house. With Dvele, we utilize a disruptive fabrication process to lower the amount of the carbon needed to produce each home. From recycled light-gauge steel, to mineral-based paint, we're taking the planet's healthy seriously at every step of the process.
