Plan Your Trip to Canada: 7 Great Itineraries

Planning a trip to Canada and figuring out an itinerary may seem monumental due to the size and geographical layout of the country. Bordered by three oceans, the Canadian motto "from sea to sea to sea" becomes more relevant when you start planning a cross country tour.

Most travelers with limited time who are looking to plan an 8- or 10-day Canada itinerary, tend to focus on one area of the country. This is a good idea, unless you incorporate some long-distance internal flights. Canada stretches more than 5,500 kilometers from east to west, and much of the remote north is all but inaccessible.

The best option, unless you have plenty of time, is to focus your itinerary on Western, Central, or Eastern Canada. Western Canada is home to some of the country's most spectacular scenery, with mountains, glaciers, alpine lakes, and Pacific coastline. Central Canada is most well-known for its vibrant cities, including Toronto , Montreal , and Ottawa , but also consists of prairies and the lakes and forests of the Canadian Shield. Atlantic Canada , which includes the Maritime Provinces and Newfoundland and Labrador, is known for endless shorelines, quaint coastal villages, and friendly cities with a small-town atmosphere.

Western Canada Itinerary Highlights: Vancouver, Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley, Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Lake Louise, Calgary

The best way to see the Canadian Rockies is by car, with a road trip beginning either in Vancouver and ending in Calgary, or doing it in the reverse order. A scenic seven-day trip will take you from Vancouver to Kelowna for a stop along the beautiful Lake Okanagan , and on to Banff National Park . From here, do a side trip up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper and end your trip in Calgary . This route runs through some of the most spectacular scenery in Canada.

Kelowna is a pleasant city that caters to skiers in the winter, with nearby ski resorts of Big White and Silver Star . These are two of the best ski resorts in Canada . In summer, this is a popular area for renting a cottage, golfing, or exploring the lakes by houseboat.

Banff and Jasper National Parks , including the area around Lake Louise , are highlights of this route, and offer some incredible day hikes . You can plan your own Banff to Jasper itinerary along the Icefields Parkway . Even if you are not interested in getting active, there are scenic pullouts along the Parkway to see the turquoise lakes, glaciers, waterfalls, and other sites.

The town of Banff , in the park of the same name, is a beautiful mountain tourist town with all kinds of accommodation, including camping . In town, the dining and shopping options are substantial, with too many stores and shops to count.

Just outside the park to the east, the small mountain town of Canmore is a great base, with plenty of resorts if you don't want to stay in Banff. Beyond Canmore, an hour and a half east of Banff, is the city of Calgary , home to the famous Calgary Stampede held in July.

Flights run regularly between Calgary and Vancouver. Another option for returning to Vancouver is a train trip on the Rocky Mountaineer , a high end rail journey through the Rocky Mountains.

West Coast Itinerary Highlights: Vancouver, Whistler, Victoria, Salt Spring Island, Tofino

Spend a couple of days seeing the sights of Vancouver . Drive or catch a bus up to the posh ski town of Whistler for a day, a fun destination any time of year, and head back down to Vancouver where you can catch a ferry to Victoria , the capital of British Columbia. For some people, depending on how much time you allow in Vancouver and Victoria, this might be enough to fill seven days.

However, if you find you still have more time, plan a Vancouver Island itinerary or some excursions from Victoria. For a day trip from Victoria catch a car ferry to Salt Spring Island for a day of sightseeing, or visiting local farms and artisan studios.

With a few days available, you can plan a Vancouver Island Road Trip. Drive up Vancouver Island to Tofino for a night or two, where you can stay in one of the beautiful seaside resorts . Spend some time surfing or walking along the beaches in Pacific Rim National Park , enjoy some of the beautiful day hikes around Tofino or near the village of Ucluelet , and see the pristine coastal forest all along this remote stretch of the island.

A car makes this trip simple and is the best way to see the attractions. If you are using public transport, it will be cheaper and include a bus to Whistler and walk-on ferries to Victoria and Salt Spring Island. With a car, be aware that taking a car ferry may require some wait time, especially around holidays. If you add on a trip to Tofino a car is almost essential.

If you are looking for more things to do on Vancouver Island, consider taking the time to explore the best hikes on Vancouver Island , or set up your tent or RV at one of the scenic campgrounds . The campgrounds near Tofino are especially beautiful. You can also plan excursions out of Nanaimo and Parksville.

Central Canada Itinerary Highlights: Toronto, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City.

With Toronto being a major point of entry for many travelers to Canada, this is the best place to start a tour of Central Canada. Spend a few nights in Toronto to see the sights, take in a Broadway show, and do a day trip to Niagara Falls . There are several tour operators offering day trips to the falls, which usually include a stop at the lovely little town of Niagara-on-the-Lake , one of Ontario's most romantic small towns.

From Toronto, you can drive or take a train to Ottawa , Canada's capital, to see Parliament Hill , some national museums, and in winter, you may even be able to skate along the Rideau Canal running through the city.

Montreal is another must-see city in Central Canada. You can get there easily from Ottawa, or directly from Toronto if you choose to skip Ottawa. Trains run regularly from both cities to Montreal, and by car, it is quite an easy drive (4.5 hours from Toronto to Ottawa, 5.5 hours from Toronto to Montreal, and two hours from Ottawa to Montreal).

With more time available, you can continue on to Quebec City to tour this historic French city. This is a city definitely worth visiting, and may even serve as an alternative to visiting Montreal if you are unable to visit both.

Nova Scotia and PEI Itinerary Highlights: Halifax, Lunenburg, Charlottetown, Cape Breton Island

Eastern Canada is a large area and you may want to explore a region rather than try to see everything. Beginning with Nova Scotia and PEI is a good start. The most practical way to tour this area is with a car.

With eight to 10 days, you can easily see the highlights of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island . Begin in Halifax with some sightseeing around the city, and then spend a day touring the surroundings, with visits to Peggy's Cove and historic Lunenburg , before moving on to Annapolis Royal . From here, continue up and along the Bay of Fundy , making your way to the Confederation Bridge and over to Charlottetown , Prince Edward Island.

Take at least a day to explore the PEI, with a trip to Prince Edward Island National Park and Green Gables , the fictional home of Anne of green Gables. If the weather cooperates, take some time to enjoy the seashore. PEI's Brackley Beach with its long stretches of golden sand, is one of the best beaches in Canada . When you are ready to leave, take the Wood Islands Ferry to Caribou , Nova Scotia and head up to Cape Breton Island . There is plenty to see and do here, but the most popular activity is driving the scenic Cabot Trail , which runs through Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

If you have time, make your way out to Louisbourg to see the Fortress Louisbourg National Historic Site. From here you can head back to Halifax.

If you have another seven or 10 days for exploring the Maritimes, tack on a tour of Newfoundland .

Newfoundland Itinerary Highlights : St. John's, Gros Morne National Park, coastal towns

Start your Newfoundland itinerary with a stop in St. John's , the provincial capital, to explore Signal Hill National Historic Site and George Street , in the lovely downtown area. When you leave St. John's, take the scenic drive along Conception Bay and over to the Bonavista Peninsula to the charming town of Trinity. This scenic little seaside village with colorful houses looks out onto oceanfront cliffs. Tour some historic buildings to get a feel for the culture, take a whale-watching tour, or go for a hike. If you are visiting in the late spring, you may even see an iceberg.

From here, continue up the coast through Terra Nova National Park and on to the village of Twillingate to experience a quaint coastal community. After a night in Twillingate make your way to beautiful Gros Morne National Park , for a boat tour or some hiking in this spectacular landscape. Stay in the park at Rocky Harbour, Norris Point, or at nearby Deer Lake.

If you have more time, consider making a trip up to L'Anse Aux Meadows , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see some Viking history. Afterwards, make your way back to St. John's. Keep in mind, driving in Newfoundland may take longer than you expect, with winding roads and last-minute decisions to turn off the highway and visit coastal towns or scenic areas.

Northern Canada Itinerary Highlights: Churchill, Whitehorse, Yellowknife

There is no easy way to see all of Canada's north in one trip. The region is extremely remote, and the highlights are, in many cases, geographically distant from one another.

Here are some options for a Northern Canada itinerary:

If your goal is to see wildlife you should consider a trip to Churchill , Manitoba in the late fall to see the polar bear migration. Many different tours leave from Winnipeg , offering multi-day stays that include options to see the bears in a Tundra Buggy and stay in a Tundra Lodge. Most tours involve a flight from Winnipeg to Churchill, but it is also possible to take a train to Churchill.

The two main cities of the north are Whitehorse , in the Yukon , and Yellowknife , in the Northwest Territories . Both of these cities are accessible by car.

Many people incorporate the Yukon into a driving trip to Alaska . This route typically involves driving up through northern British Columbia and runs from Haines, going through Skagway, Carcross, Whitehorse, Dawson City, and into Alaska to the cities of Fairbanks and Anchorage , then back into the Yukon to Haines Junction and back to Haines. This route will give you a chance to experience some of the characters and cultures of the north, learn about the history of the Klondike Gold Rush, and see some of the beautiful landscape.

To reach Yellowknife , most people drive up the Mackenzie Highway from northern Alberta to Highway 3 running through Fort Providence. While in Yellowknife, be sure to get out on the waters of Great Slave Lake to battle the giant northern pike and trout waiting beneath the surface.

To see more of the north from Yellowknife, flights are in order. Possible options include side trips to Nahanni National Park , one of the jewels of Canada's north, or to the northern community of Inuvik, just 200 kilometers from the Arctic Circle, to see what life is like in the far north.

Canadian Cities Itinerary Highlights: Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal (Optional: Calgary, Halifax, St. John's, Quebec City)

If you are looking for a cross-Canada cosmopolitan adventure, the key cities are Toronto , Vancouver , Montreal , and the nation's capital, Ottawa . But if you want to probe a little deeper, you could easily add on Calgary , Halifax , St. John's , and even a side trip from Montreal to Quebec City . There are regular flights to all of these destinations and quick and convenient train connections that run between Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. Flights to the eastern cities of Halifax and St. John's are generally more expensive.

Vancouver is arguably Canada's most beautiful city, while Toronto is a great place to see a show, take a day trip to Niagara Falls, and enjoy the view from the CN Tower.

Montreal is an incredibly vibrant city known for its French culture, shopping and fashion, and trendy Old Town . With extra time, you could add on a trip to Ottawa , between Toronto and Montreal, to tour some of the best museums in Canada.

Nature lovers could make a stop in Calgary for a quick trip out to Banff National Park and Lake Louise. For a more complete picture of Canada, catch a flight to either Halifax or St. John's to enjoy some seafood and experience the culture and friendly people of Atlantic Canada.

Planning a trip to Canada involves more than geographical considerations; the weather should be high on the list of things to research as well. Canada is so massive that the country can be experiencing four seasons on the same day. For example, on a typical June day, it could be 30 degrees Celsius, hot and humid in Central Canada, fogbound and cool in the Atlantic provinces, pleasant with cool sea breezes in Vancouver, and snowing in the Rockies or far north.

The best months to visit Canada are July and August . During these months, you'll get the warmest temperatures and have the best chance to do all the activities you have planned. However, this is when all the Canadians like to do things as well, so prices tend to rise and the most popular places can get crowded. If you can get away in September, you'll be rewarded with warm days, cool nights, and less crowded attractions.

Vancouver and coastal British Columbia along with Eastern Canada have temperate climates - it rarely gets too hot or too cold. The farther you move inland from the moderating effect of the oceans, the more extreme the temperatures get.

Planning a trip in the winter is less popular, unless you are a downhill skier or hardy outdoorsman. The best winter month for a ski trip is March, with its more moderate temperatures, sunny days, and copious snowfall. December is early for consistent snow conditions; January and February can be bone-chillingly cold and have short days.

Winter can also be a great time to experience the arts. Enjoy the ballet, symphony, and theater, or spend some time at the museums.

10 days in Canadian Rockies Itinerary: Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Yoho, Jasper, and Edmonton

• Day 1 : Arrive in Calgary and spend one-day sightseeing. Pick up a rental car from the airport
• Day 2 : Drive to Banff National Park with a stop in Canmore
• Day 3 : Explore Banff town

Day 1: Calgary

Kick start your Canada itinerary by arriving at the Calgary international airport. Plan to spend one day in Calgary downtown and explore the city highlights. 

Top attractions include – Calgary Tower (ride to the top to soak in views of downtown and nearby areas), Stephen Avenue Walk, Calgary Fort, Peace Bridge, and more. 

You can pick up the car rental the same day or the next day before heading to Banff. 

For hotels, consider staying in Downtown Calgary for sightseeing (you can walk to various sites or opt for a hotel by the airport if picking up your rental on day 1). 

Day 2: Canmore and Banff National Park

On Day 2, hit the road and drive towards Banff National Park with a stop in Canmore along the way. 

Once you arrive in Canmore , enjoy a stroll at the Policeman’s Creek, town centre and grab a nice lunch at one of the local cafes. 

Next, drive to Banff town, and check in to your hotel . Wander Banff Avenue, grab a coffee, and check off some of the popular Banff photography spots.

In the evening, head to a restaurant with views such as Juniper and enjoy a lovely dinner.

Day 3: Explore Banff town

After breakfast, it is time to check off all the cool things in Banff National Park. Hit the Banff welcome sign, ride the Banff Gondola to take in the views from the Sulphur Mountain (spend 2 hours), and Bow Falls, and go for a walk downtown Banff for lunch. 

Other popular attractions to visit include Cascade of Time Gardens and Cave and Basin Historic Site. 

If interested, soak in the warm waters of Banff Hot Springs in the evening.

Day 4: Day trip to explore lakes from Banff

On day 4, venture out for a day trip to explore the beautiful lakes of Banff National Park. Take a drive along Vermillion Lakes and Two Jack Lake with a short hike on the Minnewanka trail and enjoy a scenic cruise across Minnewanka Lake. 

Day 5: Moraine Lake and Yoho National Park (day trip)

Head to the prettiest Moraine Lake in the early hours. This is super important so that you can find a good parking spot, go on a short hike and enjoy the drive. Access to Moraine Lake is open during the warmer months only. 

From there drive to Yoho National Park (30 min drive from Moraine Lake). You can break for lunch in the town of Field, and explore the Natural Bridge over the Kicking Horse River, Emerald Lake, and Takakkaw Falls. Access to most of the attractions in Yoho is open all year round. 

Tip: If you are unable to make it to Moraine Lake, you can head straight to Yoho National Park and spend an entire day there. 

Alternatively, you can split your time between Yoho/Field and Golden BC. 

At the Golden SkyBridge, you can enjoy suspension bridges, zip lining, axe throwing, and ride Canada’s largest and fastest mountain coaster! (spend 2-4 hours/half a day). 

Day 6: Explore Lake Louise (day trip or stay overnight in Lake Louise)

Spend a day at the majestic Lake Louise. Enjoy a lovely stroll by the lakeside, in the summers you can rent a canoe and hit the Lake Agnes Tea House trail. 

In the afternoon, relax with high tea at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. 

In the winter months, you can still go on winter hikes, have afternoon tea, enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow, or ice skating. If interested, you can also add a visit to the Lake Louise Ski Resort. 

Day 7: Icefields Parkway

Enjoy a drive on one of the most scenic routes in Canada – Icefields Parkway, starting from Lake Louise to Jasper National Park. You can stop at the Athabasca Glacier (for a guided tour), or check off places like the Sunwapta Falls along the way. 

Arrive in Jasper National Park and stay overnight for the next 3 days.

Day 8 – 9: Jasper National Park

Start your day with a lovely breakfast in Jasper town, and then make your way to two of the beautiful lakes – Patricia and Pyramid Lakes. Enjoy kayaking on Patricia Lake, horseback riding in the meadows, and mountain biking along the trails. 

There are hikes that you can enjoy in each (and they are open all year round). You can also spend a day at Maligne Lake, and take a cruise to see the Spirit Island (seasonal activity). 

More sightseeing and easy trails are available at the Athabasca Falls, and Maligne Canyon (in the winter you can also enjoy ice walks here). 

For wildlife enthusiasts, there’s the chance to spot grizzlies, moose, and elk in their natural habitat. 

At night, relax at one of Jasper’s cozy lodges or campgrounds and enjoy some stargazing – with no light pollution here, you’re sure to have a magical experience!

Day 10: Edmonton

On day 10, make your way to Alberta’s capital city. It will be a 4 hour drive to get here from Jasper. 

You can visit the Alberta Legislature Building, river valley, and the West Edmonton Mall (one of the largest in the country), before bidding adieu to Canada.

10 days in British Columbia and Alberta: Vancouver, Whistler, Banff, Lake Louise, Yoho, Calgary

This Canada 10-day itinerary begins in Vancouver, in the province of British Columbia. From BC’s cities and towns, it takes you to Alberta and the Rockies. We will outline the main spots to visit on this 10-day road trip. 

Start your 10-day Canadian adventure in Vancouver! Spend two nights exploring this vibrant city, taking a stroll along the Stanley Park Seawall, admiring the views from Grouse Mountain, Chinatown, and Canada Place, and sampling delicious cuisine. 

Set aside a few hours to visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and the Lynn Canyon in north Vancouver on day 2. You can read our full 2 days in Vancouver itinerary here

Day 4: Whistler

The next morning, explore Whistler. You can arrive here by car, tour, or shuttle bus from the Vancouver Airport. 

Enjoy a day of outdoor activities at this picturesque mountain resort town – get on the Blackcomb (by cable car), hit hiking or biking trails, wander the cute town centre and indulge in delicious food!

Day 5: Kamloops 

On day 5, you’ll drive to Kamloops. Whistler to Kamloops is a 4.25-hour drive, you can stop for lunch, and then continue driving to Lake Lousie. Stay overnight here.

Alternatively, you can also make a detour to Wells Gray Park in Clearwater BC (a 1.50-hour drive from Kamloops), and after exploring stay overnight in Kamloops. 

Day 6, takes you to Lake Louise – the ideal spot for some peaceful sightseeing and a few hikes along the surrounding trails. 

Afterward, spend the next day exploring Yoho National Park’s stunning natural scenery, taking a ride on the historic Spiral Tunnels, or simply relaxing in your picturesque surroundings.

On day 8, head to the heart of Banff National Park, and pick 2-5 attractions to explore for the next 2 days. 

On day 10, drive to Calgary, and can take a stroll along the city’s iconic Stephen Avenue Walk and browse the many shops and restaurants. Later, drop off your rental car at the airport and fly out!

10 days in Alberta Canada Itinerary: Calgary, Drumheller, Banff & Lake Louise, Fort MacLeod, Waterton National Park

Day 1 – 2 : Arrive in Calgary and spend 2 nights

Day 4 : Drumheller day trip

Day 5 – 6 : Banff National Park

Day 7 : Canmore to Calgary to Fort MacLeod

Day 8 – 10 : Waterton National Park (back to Calgary by evening)

This 10-day itinerary for Canada is more of a Southern Alberta trip that checks off some of the offbeat places in the province. It includes a mix of national parks and educational sites that you can visit after arrival in Calgary. 

You will be spending 2 days in Calgary allowing you to explore the city in-depth. 

Arrive at the Calgary International Airport and spend 2 (-3) nights. Take the time to explore Calgary – a vibrant city known for its amazing art galleries, museums, theatres, and restaurants. 

Stroll along Stephen Avenue Walk before heading up to the observation deck at the Calgary Tower to get a stunning view of the entire city. 

Also visit some of its top attractions such as Prince’s Island Park, Glenbow Museum, and Heritage Park Historical Village. 

In the evening, catch a show at the iconic Saddledome or head out for dinner and drinks in Kensington.

Tip: You can add this itinerary if visiting Calgary during the Stampede as well. Calgary Stampede – a 10-day extravaganza filled with rodeos, livestock shows, and other spectacular events. 

Take an exciting day trip to Drumheller . This unique town is located in the badlands of Alberta and boasts incredible geological formations as well as dinosaur fossils from millions of years ago. 

Visit the famous Royal Tyrrell Museum to learn more about Alberta’s dinosaur history and take a guided tour of one of the world’s largest deposits of Cretaceous fossils. 

Make your way to Banff National Park, and spend 2 days here. This addition is best if this is your first time in Alberta. 

If you have already explored Banff, add towns like Sylvan Lake, Mossleigh, and Kananaskis areas for days 5 and 6. 

If you are staying in Banff on days 5-6 , make a stop in Canmore before making your way back to Calgary and Fort MacLeod. 

If you are based in Calgary all throughout, then start bright and early for Fort MacLeod via Okotoks. 

Located near Fort MacLeod is Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that tells the story of how native tribes hunted buffalo for thousands of years. 

Here, you can take a guided tour and learn about the ancient hunting techniques used by Blackfoot people (Native Americans) or explore the interactive exhibits to get an up-close look at the history and culture of this fascinating place. 

Be sure to take a walk along the interpretive trails as well, which offer sweeping views of the Canadian landscape. 

From here, drive to Pincher Creek and get some early dinner, and stay here (or in Waterton town) overnight. 

Continue your journey by visiting Waterton National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its breathtaking lakes, mountains, and wildlife. Enjoy hiking and biking along the trails or head out for a boat cruise on the crystal-clear waters of Upper Waterton Lake. 

On day 9, spend time exploring more of Waterton National Park. Take a scenic drive along Red Rock Parkway, visit Cameron Falls, and enjoy some of the best views in Alberta from Bear’s Hump. 

Head back to Calgary in the second half of day 10 to fly out (Waterton to Calgary is about 2.50 hours drive away). 

10 days in Vancouver Island Trip Itinerary: Victoria, Nanaimo, Campbell River, and beyond

Day 1 – 2 : Arrive in Vancouver and spend 2 days

• Day 3 – 4 : Victoria 

Day 5 – 6 : Tofino

Day 7 – 8 : Nanaimo 

Day 9 – 10 : Campbell River, return to Vancouver (fly out)

Discover the BEST of Vancouver Island in 10 days – of cities, small towns, provincial parks, and scenic rides!

The trip starts with Vancouver as the arrival airport. You can spend 1 to 2 days in Vancouver before making your way to Victoria. 

Start off your adventure by exploring Vancouver. Arrive in the city, settle in and on your third day take a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria. 

Day 3 – 4 : Victoria  

Victoria is the capital city of Vancouver Island. Spend 2 – 3 days in Victoria, and visit the BC Parliament Buildings, Royal BC Museum, Craigdarroch Castle and walk the pretty Inner Harbour. 

On one of the afternoons, enjoy high tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel. 

Later, spend the day soaking in the views of Victoria from a seaplane ride, or join a whale-watching tour. On the last day of your time in Victoria, explore the beautiful Butchart Gardens, and  Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site.

On day 5, take a drive to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island, and explore the pristine beaches, rainforest trails, and dramatic ocean views that make this area so special. 

Spend your afternoon exploring Pacific Rim National Park Reserve for endless possibilities in outdoor activities such as surfing, whale watching, kayaking, and hiking.

Next, explore Nanaimo (the travel time from Tofino to Nanaimo is 3 hours). Take a stroll through Old City Quarter or shop at one of the many great stores downtown. 

If you’re feeling adventurous, hit the trails and walks at Jack Point and Biggs Park, or Harbourfront Walkway. You can also enjoy boating at the Colliery Dam Park.

Don’t forget to sample Nanaimo’s famous treat – the Nanaimo bar!

Travel to Campbell River next. Spend the day exploring beautiful area – kayaking, whale watching, and hiking. There are riverside trails, as well as local hot springs where you can take in some breathtaking views of the city. 

You can also add a trip to Comox Valley (30 minutes). Take a scenic drive along the coast of Vancouver Island and explore some of the provincial parks along the way. 

10 days in Central Canada Itinerary: Toronto, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Quebec City, Montreal 

Day 1 – 3 : Arrive in Toronto and spend 3 nights

• Day 4 : Niagara Falls day trip
• Day 5 – 6 : Ottawa 

Day 7 – 8 : Quebec City

Day 9 – 10 : Montreal (fly out)

Spend 3 days in Toronto , exploring one of the trendiest cities in North America with its vibrant art scene and an array of attractions.

If you’re looking for something a bit more active, take a trip to the Toronto Islands for an afternoon of fun activities like kayaking, canoeing, and hiking!

Day 4: Niagara Falls day trip

No Canadian trip is complete without a visit to the famous Niagara Falls! This natural wonder of the world will surely take your breath away with its powerful cascades and stunning scenery. 

You can experience it all by taking a day trip from Toronto – hop on board the Niagara Cruise for an up-close view of the falls or explore the Entertainment District for some fun attractions and souvenir shopping.

Day 5 – 6: Ottawa – Canada’s capital city

From Toronto, make your way to the nation’s capital – Ottawa! This vibrant city is filled with incredible architecture, museums, and attractions to discover. 

During your stay, visit the iconic Parliament Hill for a tour of the country’s government buildings, and then take a stroll down Rideau Canal for some sightseeing. You can also explore Byward Market, which offers an array of shops, restaurants, and cafés – it’s the perfect spot to try some local cuisine!

Next travel to Quebec City, a charming city with an eclectic mix of French and English culture. Here you can explore the cobblestone streets, admire the historical architecture that lines the riverfront, or take a cable car up to the stunning Château Frontenac – one of North America’s most photographed hotels! 

Stroll along the scenic boardwalk and take in the beauty of the St. Lawrence River, browse through artisan boutiques for souvenirs, or sample some local cuisine like poutine – a Canadian classic. 

After taking in the sights and sounds of Old Quebec, head to Montmorency Falls Park to explore an impressive 83m waterfall that towers over the St. Lawrence River.

After spending 2 days in Quebec City, make your way to Montréal – the largest French-speaking city in North America! 

During your stay, explore The Plateau area for its vibrant atmosphere and café culture. You can also admire the stunning architecture of Old Montréal and take a trip to Mont Royal Park for some incredible views.

10 days in the Prairies Canada Itinerary: Edmonton, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Prince Albert National Park, Winnipeg 

Day 1 – 3: Edmonton and Elk Island National Park

• Day 4: Drive to Saskatoon via Lloydminster from Edmonton  

Day 5 – 6 : Saskatoon

Day 7: Prince Albert National Park day trip

• Day 8: Drive from Saskatoon to Winnipeg

Day 9 – 10: Winnipeg

The three Prairies provinces of Canada – Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba is a good idea for a 10 day Canada trip. 

Your first stop in Canada should be the vibrant city of Edmonton. Here, you’ll find plenty of things to do and see, from exploring the Royal Alberta Museum’s extensive galleries to taking a stroll down Jasper Avenue – the downtown core. 

For more outdoor activities, why not try hiking or biking along one of the many trails in the city. You can also experience the local culture by visiting one of the many farmers’ markets, shopping at West Edmonton Mall, or catching a show at one of the live music venues.

On day 3, head to Elk Island National Park , and check out the Bison loop, sunset canoeing and more!

Day 4: Drive to Saskatoon via Lloydminster from Edmonton 

Heading eastward, your next stop should be Lloydminster – in Alberta/Saskatchewan border city. Here, you’ll find plenty of history and culture to explore. 

Take a tour of the historic Barr Colony Heritage Centre to learn about the area’s early settlers, or take a stroll through one of the many beautiful parks and botanical gardens. You can also visit some of Lloydminster’s shops, and restaurants for a cool experience.

After exploring Lloydminster, make your way to the city of Saskatoon.

Although not the capital city of Saskatchewan, this vibrant metropolis is filled with plenty of things to do and see, from checking out the beautiful nearby Meewasin Valley trails and riverside paths, to visiting the renowned Western Development Museum. 

You can also enjoy some local culture by shopping at the Broadway Farmers’ Market or taking in a show at the Persephone Theatre/Remai Arts Centre.

The next stop on your Canada 10 day itinerary is the Prince Albert National Park. It will take 2 hours to get there from Saskatoon. 

Here, you’ll find plenty of outdoor activities to experience – from fishing and canoeing on Waskesiu Lake, to hiking and camping in the beautiful backcountry.

Day 8: Drive to Winnipeg from Saskatoon

Enjoy a full day of drive from Saskatoon to Winnipeg crossing small Prairie towns like Yorkton in Saskatchewan, and Portage la Prairie in Manitoba. 

Your last stop is Winnipeg – a vibrant metropolis located in Manitoba. Here, you’ll find plenty of things to do and see – from exploring The Forks National Historic Site and the Royal Canadian Mint Museum, to enjoying some of the city’s fantastic restaurants and of course the iconic Esplanade Riel. 

You can also enjoy local culture by checking out Exchange District or attending one of the many festivals throughout the year. With so much to do in Winnipeg, it’s a great place to end your 10-day Canadian adventure (and fly out)!

10 days in the Maritimes Canada Itinerary: Halifax, Cape Breton, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island

• Day 1 – 2 : Halifax, NS

Day 3 – 5: Cape Breton and Cabot Trail

Day 6 – 7: New Brunswick 

Day 8 – 10: Prince Edward Island

To fully experience the beauty of Canada, your 10-day itinerary should include exploring Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. 

Day 1 – 2: Halifax

Start in Nova Scotia where you can take a guided tour through Halifax’s top sites like Pier 21 and Citadel Hill, experience whale watching or kayaking on the Bay of Fundy, and explore quaint fishing villages like Peggy’s Cove. 

Spend the next few days exploring Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. 

The Cabot Trail is one of Canada’s most popular tourist destinations, offering magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean, rugged coastal cliffs, lush forests and small fishing villages. 

While here, you can do everything from whale watching in the waters off of Cape Breton Island, hiking to sampling fresh seafood at local restaurants.

From there, hop on the ferry and take in the stunning views of New Brunswick as you make your way to St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. Spend some time exploring here and admire lighthouses along the way. 

Set aside a day to visit the capital city of Fredericton, and hit attractions like a couple of days here visiting historic sites such as Christ Church Cathedral, night market, Odell Park, and Legislative Assembly Building. 

If you have time on your hands, take a trip to the Hopewell Rocks from the capital city. Hopewell Rocks Provincial in the Bay of Fundy is only open seasonally (May to October). 

Finally, the last part of your trip should be spent on beautiful Prince Edward Island visiting sites like the Confederation Site in Charlottetown, PEI National Park and Anne of Green Gables House. 

Charlottetown is the capital city of PEI – this quaint little destination is home to amazing seafood restaurants, charming harbourfront, and home of Canada’s Confederation Landing site. 

You can drive to PEI from New Brunswick via the 12.9 km (9 mile) long Confederation Bridge. Charlottetown has an airport from where you can fly out.

Planning a trip to Canada can be overwhelming as there is so much to see and do! To make your planning process easier, take some time to research the destinations you’d like to visit. 

Managing sightseeing 

Sticking to one region will allow you to ease into your trip, manage road trips, sightseeing and flying time.  

Western Canada is packed with incredible attractions and activities that you won’t want to miss. Popular places include Vancouver, Banff National Park, and the Rocky Mountains. 

Spend your time here exploring vibrant cities filled with exciting culture and history, or take some time to relax in nature by going on a hike or taking a boat tour of the lake districts.

Eastern Canada is home to beautiful cities such as Montreal and Toronto, which are great for exploring unique culture, history, and architecture. Don’t forget to pay a visit to Niagara Falls – it’s an experience you won’t soon forget! 

Alternatively, head out into the wilderness of Eastern Canada and discover the spectacular views of Algonquin Provincial Park or admire the beauty of Fundy National Park.

Also, consider what type of activities you would like to do, such as skiing or exploring national parks, and decide which locations have the best attractions for you. 

Packing and weather

It is also helpful to look up the weather forecast in the areas you plan on visiting, so you know what kind of clothes and items to pack.

Additionally, it’s important to make sure that you have all your travel documents (such as a passport and visa) ready before your trip! 

Budgeting for a Canada trip

When planning a trip to Canada, it’s important to consider your budget. Since Canada is a large country, the cost of travel will depend on where you choose to go and what activities you do. 

Typically, car rental will cost about $30 CAD per day for a midsize vehicle. Bus tickets and passes start as low as $3.50 CAD (depending on the city). 

As far as food goes, you will have fast food ($5 to $12 CAD for a meal), small cafes and fine dining options (starts at $100 CAD for two). You can save money by grocery shopping and cooking your own meals. 

To save money, you can also take advantage of discounts and coupons available from local tour companies or look for deals online (particularly Groupon or deals on Expedia.ca). 

Additionally, consider the time of year you’re traveling as prices will vary depending on the season. Accommodation prices are very expensive in prime tourist destinations such as Banff, Niagara Falls, Vancouver, Toronto, Quebec City, etc. in the summer months. You can book day tours to popular sites from nearby sister towns to save money. 

Safety in Canada

Overall, Canada is safe. We have lived here for over 14 years and never encountered any safety issues. English is widely spoken and we encourage keeping emergency numbers such as 911, and travel insurance at all times on your trip. 

As a tourist, we recommend researching the areas you are visiting/staying and familiarize yourself with local laws and customs. Pay attention to speed limits and national parks warnings. 

Like with any destination, when out and about, be sure to stay aware of your surroundings at all times and avoid walking alone after dark. 

Tourist Visa

Lastly, if you’re from outside of Canada, you will need to apply for a tourist visa before entering the country. Depending on your nationality, the type of visa required may vary. 

Make sure to research the specific requirements and apply for your visa as early as possible. Once approved, make sure to keep it handy during your visit so that you can show it to security personnel upon request.

US citizens and Green Card holders do not need a visa to enter Canada.

In order to help you plan your stay , I have prepared this recommended Itinerary for a week in Canada . You will discover some of the best places to visit in the country!

Get ready for cities like Montreal , Toronto , Ottawa , and famous tourist attractions such as the Thousand Islands and the iconic Niagara Falls .

For this itinerary, in addition to the best things to do and must-see attractions , I will also give you all my best tips as well as my list of the best accommodations depending on your budget.

So, what are the best things to do in Canada in a week? Where to stay?

Where to stay in Montreal

To visit eastern Canada in a week , you’ll start in Montreal , the perfect place to kick off your road trip.

Depending on when your flight lands and how tired you are, you can either:

• Pick up your rental car and head straight to bed to be well-rested for the start of your adventure the next day
• Or drop your bags at the hotel and start exploring Montreal !

You’ll get to see the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal the Bonsecours Market, the Clock Tower Quay and Jacques-Cartier Square .

Then, continue with a stroll along the Old Port by the St. Lawrence River. It’s a fantastic place for a walk!

For the end of the day, head over to Mount Royal Lookout located in the park of the same name. You’ll have a breathtaking view of all of Montreal !

And for dinner, immerse yourself in Canadian culture by tasting the typical dish: poutine !

2) The Thousand Islands (1 day)

The next day, things start getting serious on this one-week journey through Canada. Head to the Thousand Islands , located halfway between Montreal and Toronto! It’s the perfect pit stop to break up the drive and also enjoy the beautiful natural landscapes of Canada .

To get to the Thousand Islands from Montreal, it’s about a 3-hour drive.

The must-do tourist activity at the Thousand Islands is to take a boat cruise (around the Thousand Islands, of course!). Cruises depart from the towns of Rockport, Gananoque, or Kingston .

Cruises are available from May to October .

In any case, the boats can carry around 50 people. If you’re looking for a more intimate experience, you can also book a private boat just for you. Yep, as expected, it’s a bit more expensive. But trust me, the experience is totally worth it!

During the cruise, you’ll navigate among some of the 1,865 islands ! All of them are different: varying in size, inhabited or not; cabins, luxury houses, and even a castle have been built on them.

The castle located on Boldt Island has a unique story. Billionaire George Boldt had it built for his wife, but she died before it was completed. For over 70 years the castle was abandoned until the Thousand Islands Corporation bought it for a token euro. Nowadays, it’s a tourist attraction that you can visit.

The landscapes are truly breathtaking , and the cruise is very enjoyable. A true moment of relaxation during a 7-8 day stay in Eastern Canada.

• Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites 1000 Islands : Located 2 km from the cruise departure point. Modern and cozy double room starting from €150 per night, breakfast included. Strong points: indoor swimming pool, sauna, room comfort, good breakfast, tranquility.

3) Toronto (3 days)

Our third stop in this one-week itinerary through Canada takes us onward to Toronto . From the Thousand Islands, it’s a smooth 2.5-hour drive.

Once you hit Toronto , kickstart your exploration with a dive into the city’s main neighbourhoods :

• Kensington Market, the bohemian district and one of the oldest in Toronto. This place is a massive hit with Street Art enthusiasts.
• Chinatown , Toronto’s Chinese neighborhood, is your best bet for the city’s most affordable souvenirs. So, time to stock up on those magnets and mugs!
• The Distillery District, a historical area transformed into a vast pedestrian zone. Filled with unique shops, art galleries, and hip cafés, it’s Toronto’s trendiest neighborhood.

When lunchtime rolls around, make your way to the St. Lawrence Market . This indoor market, over 200 years old, offers the chance to savor amazing local products. You can eat right there at the available tables. It’s a particularly welcoming and warm spot you have to check out.

For the afternoon, we’re off to meet the marine mammals at Ripley’s Aquarium . This is a must-visit in Toronto, being Canada’s largest aquarium home to over 16,000 creatures. Here, you’ll get to walk through an underwater tunnel , and touch rays and even sharks.

I must confess, I’m usually not the biggest fan of such activities, but this one is interactive and well-put-together. If you’re visiting Toronto with family , your kids are sure to love it, too!

As the day winds down, I suggest heading up the CN Tower, Toronto’s iconic attraction. A panoramic elevator will whisk you up to 346 meters in a mere 58 seconds !

Here, you can walk on a transparent glass floor and marvel at the breathtaking panoramic views of the entire city. The experience is truly awe-inspiring! The best time to go up is at sunset.

For adrenaline junkies and thrill-seekers, why not try out the EdgeWalk ? Safely harnessed, you’ll get to walk along the tower’s outer edge , just a mere 1.5 meters wide! Just a heads up, this little scare will cost you a pretty penny – $225 (even the price is scary)! 😝 )

Finally, to end your day on a romantic note, consider dining at the CN Tower’s restaurant . The restaurant actually rotates during your meal, so you’ll enjoy a full 360-degree view of Toronto.

If you want to dig deeper into the city’s history , consider booking a guided tour of Toronto . Tours are available for all the major neighborhoods I just mentioned:

For the following day in Toronto on this week-long Canadian trip, we’re heading to a rather unusual place: Casa Loma .

Casa Loma is an authentic medieval-style castle , an uncommon sight in Canada! Back in the day, a wealthy industrialist went all out with a whimsical $3.5 million splurge. Talk about living large! It should be noted that he quickly went bankrupt and didn’t get to enjoy it for long (poor chap…).

You can explore the many rooms of the castle , but the highlight is the view it offers from the top of the towers , simply one of Toronto’s finest.

The 2-hectare garden of Casa Loma is also a delight to stroll around, with its fountains, sculptures, and floral arrangements.

The rest of the day in Toronto calls for a cultural expedition to the Royal Ontario Museum , the country’s largest museum. With its part old-stone architecture and glass and aluminum structure, you can’t miss it. Entrance tickets available by clicking here !

The museum covers various subjects from First Nations history to world cultures and natural history. They’ve got a whole area just for dinosaur fossils ! And as the big kid that I am, I have to say, it’s the absolute best part of the museum!

Next, to escape the city bustle and enjoy some greenery, I suggest you spend the afternoon on Toronto’s islands .

You’ll need to catch a ferry from Queens Quay , which takes just about 10 minutes. The ride gives you one of the best views of Toronto’s skyline . You’ve got to see it at night when it’s all lit up – even more stunning!

As the islands are car-free, I’d recommend renting a bike to explore . It’s peaceful and serene, with plenty of beaches to swim or relax and a lovely collection of 1920s holiday homes that are quite a sight.

As you continue your 6, 7, or 8-day adventure in Canada, don’t miss Ontario’s iconic attraction, the Niagara Falls ! They’re just a 1.5-hour drive from Toronto.

Niagara Falls are truly magnificent , a must-see when in Canada! The best and certainly most spectacular way to view them is by taking a cruise at the foot of the Falls . Dressed in your stunning poncho, you’ll get up close and personal with Niagara Falls and end up thoroughly soaked (but all in good fun).

Remember to book your tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line:

After the cruise, you could also go up the Skylon Tower and take in the falls from the panoramic terrace. Tickets can be booked right here !

The “Journey Behind The Falls” activity (click here to book your tickets) also allows you to reach an observation deck, but this time it’s located at the foot of the falls, via tunnels, 40 meters underground.

And if you want to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I recommend flying over the falls in a helicopter . If ever there was a place worth breaking the bank for, this is it. It’s a splurge you’ll remember forever, trust me!

When it comes to the city of Niagara Falls itself, don’t sweat about hanging around there too long. If you’re up for it, take a stroll down Clifton Hill , a street chock-full of attractions ranging from a wax museum to a haunted house. It’s worth a peek just to appreciate the cheesiness of it all!

For the rest of the day, hop onto the Niagara Parkway , a road hugging the Niagara River, stretching between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The region is famous for its vineyards and the road offers gorgeous river views . You’ll eventually land in Niagara-on-the-Lake , a quaint and utterly charming village with its blooming narrow streets and period houses. What a day!

If you’d rather not bother driving in the big city, consider opting for a day-long organized tour .

It’s not so easy to find a hotel that offers good value for money in Toronto . To help you out, I’ve prepared a list of the best hotels depending on your budget.

One last tip: If the place you’re attracted to is available, book it right away . Demand is very high in the city, and the best accommodations disappear (very) quickly!

• The Clarence Park : This youth hostel is located a 10-minute walk from the CN Tower. Dormitory bed from €35 per night. Strong points: the location, the conviviality, curtains for dormitory beds, modernity. An excellent choice for budget accommodation in Toronto !
• Margie Townhome Suites : This guesthouse is located a 5-minute walk from the Eaton Centre. Cozy and pleasant rooms starting from €110. Strong points: the location, the calm, proximity to the metro.
• The Novotel Toronto Centre : Located right next to St. Lawrence Market. Contemporary and very spacious double rooms starting from €150. Strong points: indoor pool, location, excellent breakfast.
• One King West Hotel and Residence : Nestled in Old Toronto, a mere 5-minute walk from the St. Lawrence Market. This joint boasts modern, spacious and elegant suites, complete with stunning city views, starting from €190, with a breakfast option at €17. You may have noticed, staying in downtown Toronto isn’t exactly cheap, but that’s to be expected given it’s a bustling Canadian tourist hub.

If you’re looking to save a bit and don’t mind staying a bit further out, hotels near the Toronto Airport (about 17km from downtown) generally offer lower rates.

Here are a few suggestions:

4) Ottawa (1 day)

After spending three days exploring Toronto and the Niagara Falls , continue your week-long Canadian road trip by heading towards Ottawa . Can you imagine touring Canada in a week and skipping its capital? Unthinkable!

Be prepared for a full morning of driving, roughly 4 hours and 15 minutes. It’s the longest leg of the trip, so I’d advise you to head out early in the morning so you can make it to Ottawa by lunchtime .

Speaking of lunch, make your way to the Byward Market . Here you can grab a quick bite from the delectable local produce, or sit down at one of the many restaurants in the area. For dessert, try the Beaver Tail , a traditional Canadian pastry that’ll rock your world.

Since the market is right next to Parliament Hill , the city’s main tourist attraction, you can continue your day by admiring the stunning site. All the Canadian Parliament buildings are nestled on this hill.

Next, I’d highly recommend a visit to one of the best and most fascinating museums in Canada, the Canadian Museum of History . To me, it’s the ultimate must-do cultural activity in Ottawa . Don’t forget to grab your tickets ahead of time by clicking here !

The museum details the history of Canada from the First Nations onwards. This is where you’ll find the world’s largest collection of totem poles ! It’s a well-curated and fascinating museum. To fully explore and appreciate its grandeur, you’ll need at least 3 hours.

As the day winds down, head to the Rideau Canal for a stroll along the banks of this UNESCO World Heritage site. And if you’re visiting Ottawa in winter , grab your skates! The Rideau Canal transforms into the world’s largest natural ice rink !

If you’re not up for walking, there are several ways to discover Ottawa (click the orange links to book):

• A hop-on hop-off bus tour
• A narrated cruise on the Rideau Canal
• An electric boat cruise 
• A guided tour on an amphibious bus : my favorite as it combines both bus and mini-cruise!

While Ottawa may be the capital of Canada, it’s still a small city.

So, the selection of accommodations is somewhat limited. You should book a room from my selection in advance and not to dally too long.

• HI Ottawa Jail Hostel : This youth hostel is housed in a restored old jail. You’ll be sleeping in upgraded cells (I assure you!) Dorm bed from €30, breakfast included. Strong points: the uniqueness of the place, excellent location, and delicious breakfast. A great affordable choice for lodging in Ottawa !
• The Business Inn : Hotel located 1.3km from Parliament Hill. Well-equipped studio with a kitchen starting from €100 per night, breakfast included. Strong points: prime location, spacious rooms, an in-room computer with printer, and the ability to cook for yourself. My absolute favorite for its unbeatable value for money in Ottawa!
• Andaz Ottawa Byward Market-a concept by Hyatt : Located in the Byward Market neighborhood. Double room with modern and sleek decor from €190 per night, breakfast included. Strong points: great location, friendly staff, rooftop terrace, and an extensive and varied breakfast buffet.
• Fairmont Château Laurier : 5-star hotel (the only one in Ottawa) located a 10-minute walk from Parliament Hill. Spacious and comfortable double room from €365 per night, breakfast included. Strong points: high-quality services, room comfort, indoor swimming pool, attentive and helpful staff. The best hotel in Ottawa for a luxury stay !

5) Mont-Tremblant (1 day)

For the fifth and penultimate stop on your week-long journey through Eastern Canada, head over to Mont-Tremblant . The drive from Ottawa takes roughly 1 hour and 50 minutes.

On the way, I’d recommend making a pit stop to explore Omega Park, located in Montebello, about 50 minutes from Ottawa. Got kids with you? Here’s the perfect family activity ! At Omega Park, you can discover Canadian wildlife from the comfort of your car. It’s amazing! The animals roam freely, so you can feed and observe them up close. A fantastic experience!

By early afternoon, you should be reaching Mont-Tremblant. The best way to discover Mont-Tremblant is to go hiking in the park . One of the most accessible trails is La Roche and La Corniche .

You can also take part in water sports on the lake (in summer) or skiing (in winter). If you’re lucky enough to take this week-long Canadian road trip in the fall, you’ll be dazzled by the vibrant colors of the trees! And don’t forget to take a walk around the cute pedestrian village .

How to Apply Canada Visitor Visa (with Sample Travel Itinerary)

Canada visitor visa application for 10 yrs or passport expiry date. Biometric required. Online application faster without interview. Sample Travel Itinerary.

Canada visitor visas can be obtained without even a visa interview. Canada has a very streamlined process to send your passport and get the stamped visitor visa by postal mail.

Canada visa officer will decide if an interview is required for your specific case and call you if one is needed.

If you have any US visa stamped in your current or old passport like a US B1/B2 or any work visa like H1B, L visa, the chances are very high that you will get a Canadian visitor visa without an interview.

This article will discuss:

Documents Required

Visa processing time, sample travel itinerary.

#1 Passport

All old expired and current valid passport color copies.

Scan the following pages preferably using your smartphone app or a scanner at home:

• Frontpage showing your photo
• Last page showing your address
• All existing entry-exit stamps in the passport
• All valid or expired visa stamps from any country

You can use various apps and cloud storage services to scan and keep all your visa documents easily accessible .

#2 Bank statement

Showing last 3-month bank balance.

Make sure you have enough money to pay for your Canada trip as per your itinerary.

I suggest using your salary account which shows pay credits.

#3 Employment Letter

If you are currently employed in your country, an employment verification letter is recommended.

#4 Current Country Valid Status

If you are applying for a Canadian visa in a country that is not the same as your passport, then you need to provide proof of valid status.

If you are working in the US on an H1B visa with an Indian passport, you need to provide your valid H1B i797 copy as proof.

#5 Scanned Photograph

You can get your passport-size photo created online as you would need it for uploading with your application.

Your photo will be taken again at the VFS center.

#6 Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary resident Visa) – IMM 5257

#7 Application for Temporary Residence – IMM 5257 Schedule 1

#8 Family Information Form – IMM 5645

#9 Last 3 months Pay Slips

You can pay online by credit/debit card.

There are no extra surcharges but it may vary based on the country you are applying from.

Online Process

#1 Create an account on the Canada CIC website .

If you already have a login, you can simply sign in using your GCKey (basically the Canadian CIC website password).

#2 Upload all required documents and apply.

#3 An email is received for the biometric letter.

Print the Biometric letter and make an appointment.

You get 30 days to give your fingerprints after the Biometric letter has been generated. The last date will be mentioned in the letter too.

• If you are outside Canada or the United States, you can go to any Visa Application Centre (VAC) .
• If you are in the United States, you may go to a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Application Support Center (ASC) or a Visa Application Centre (VAC) .

What to expect at USCIS ASC Center biometric experience in the USA .

#4 Once biometrics is done, you will wait for a decision on your application.

#5 You will get an email once a decision is made. You will be asked to submit your passport.

Passport Request Letter

Once the visa officer has processed your application, you will get an email and a letter will be available in your CIC dashboard.

The chances are 99% that your visa has been approved if you get a passport submission request.

You can submit your passport within 30 days of the passport request.

#6 Submit your passport.

You can expect your passport back with a visa stamp within 1-3 working days.

The Canada visitor visa processing time is 21-40 calendar days.

Biometric was completed on Sep 23 at the VFS Canada Application Center in Sydney, Australia.

Travel Itinerary

PURPOSE : My purpose is to take a short tourism trip to see Niagara Falls from the Canadian side while going to the USA. 

Here is what I plan to do: Sep 16 – Take a flight from Sydney, Australia to Toronto, Canada.

Please note that in the event I do not obtain a Canadian visitor visa in time to be able to book the flight tickets for these dates, I will plan to visit Canada from the USA if I have a visitor visa at that time.

Trip Cost Planning

You will need biometrics if you have never given your fingerprints for any Canadian Visa in the last 10 years.

Canadian biometrics is valid for 10 years.

Canadian Biometric fees are CAD $85 at this time and CAD $170 if applying with a family.

You need a biometric appointment. VFS manages the biometric process for a Canadian visa. It takes about 15 minutes to take fingerprints but waiting time depends on each VFS center and their individual workload.

Online Canadian visitor visa application is faster than physical application by at least 10 working days. Your application saves time on postal mail and you can get your visa faster.

A Canadian visitor visa is issued for 10 years or up to the passport validity date. Example: If your passport validity is less than 10 years, then the Canada visitor visa validity date will be the same as your passport expiry date.
