These are the best Sydney NYE cruises to book right now

Take to the Harbour for front row seats to the start of 2022

Maxim Boon

Update, December 23: In light of the surge of cases, many Sydney venues are cancelling NYE events. Call ahead of your visit to confirm if celebrations are taking place as planned.

In Sydney, ringing in the new year is a go-big-or-stay-home affair. But this year, the celebrations will be even bigger, we suspect. We’ve spent a quarter of the year indoors, and if you're anything like us, you've got some catching up to do when it comes to big nights out. So, why not spend your last hoorah of the year in the company of Sydney's greatest icons, the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, on a New Year's cruise?

We’ve curated a list of the best you can book right now to secure the well-earned fun you and your mates deserve. Most of the cruise experiences come inclusive of food and drink, so all you need to worry about is having a damn good time.

Starship Sydney

Behold Australia’s largest glass boat, Starship Sydney. Spend your whole NYE on board, indulging in an all-inclusive evening of canapes, cocktails, Australian beers and premium wines, and three entertainment levels, which includes two decks of DJs. Starship Sydney offers an excellent view of the midnight fireworks display, departing from King Street Wharf at 7.30pm and returning at 1am. Tickets are on sale now from $750 per person.

Harbourside Cruises

All aboard the Harbour Spirit, a luxury catamaran that you can hop on for NYE this year. Equipped with gorgeous contemporary interiors and two spacious decks, this 5.5 hour Sydney Harbour party cruise serves up epic views of the fireworks from inside and outside the boat. For $550 per person, enjoy bottomless beer, wine, and soft drink, constant service of appetisers and canapes, and non-stop party bangers on the dancefloor. Departs from Pyrmont at 7:15 pm and returns at 1 am.

Yeah Buoy NYE Boat Party

A three-level boat party with 360-degree unobstructed views of the fireworks? We’re 1000% in. Departing from Port Jackson at 5.30pm, this 7.5hr all-inclusive cruise is the ultimate NYE treat. Live DJs all night, live entertainment, karaoke bar, a luxury seafood buffet, cocktail bar, grazing tables, drink service, and even casino table – you can’t really go wrong. Get your boogie on at Yeah Buoy. Tickets start from $600 per person.

Showboat Art Deco New Year’s Eve Fireworks Cruise

If you’re looking for something a little fancier, look no further than this all-inclusive cruise on the luxurious Sydney Showboat II. Guests can expect to take up the Azure Deck, which is a private third-level area hosting only 60 people (max comfort guaranteed). A deluxe 5-course seated dinner will be served, with premium beverages available for the entire night, alongside a DJ and dancing—the way we all want to enter the new year, right? Tickets are $850 per person.

Fast Ferry Cruises

NYE doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Which, most of the time it does. If you want to jump on a New Year’s Eve cruise without spending more than a few hundred, choose Fast Ferry Cruises. Starting at $200 per person, these shorter 2.5hr cruises are BYO food and drinks and run for either the 9 pm or midnight fireworks, departing from Manly, Rose Bay, or Darling Harbour.

Le Bleu

If you’re an avid fan of electronic dance music and are ready to spend NYE with banging tunes and boogies, you can’t go past a ride on Le Bleu. The night features an exclusive DJ set from BINARY and Alvin Chan and the best possible views of the fireworks, which means you’ll be starting 2022 off with a big bang (and not just ‘cos of the fireworks). There’ll be a Belvedere Vodka on arrival, sushi platters to munch on during the night, and of course a glass of Moet Chandon champagne at midnight. Tickets are $500 plus a small booking fee.

Bella Vista New Year’s Eve Cruise

Welcome in the new year aboard a luxury glass vessel with 3m high wraparound windows, giving you a prime position for the midnight fireworks. With spacious decks at the front and back and top of the boat, there’ll be plenty of room for all the activities on this all-inclusive 5.5hr cruise. Not to mention delicious canapes, a standing buffet menu and desserts, and a state of the art sound system to have you dancing into 2022. Tickets are $799 per person, but it’s all about the experience this NYE.

Sydney 2000 Cruise

This NYE is all about making up for the lost time. And sometimes, doing that over a decadent dinner is the best way to do that. Cruise into 2022 onboard the Sydney 2000, a vessel that has been floating in the exclusion zone for over 20 years. This means it won’t be a problem getting an incredible view of the midnight fireworks. With prices starting at $799 per person, you can choose from three luxurious decks, each with all-inclusive food, premium drinks, and live entertainment. The cruise departs from King Street Wharf at 7.30pm and returns at 1am.

Rocket Cruise

Looking for a more affordable cruise option but want to stay on the boat for more than a couple of hours? Well then, Rocket Cruise has your NYE sorted. 5.5 hours of relaxed cruising, indoor and outdoor ferry seating, BYO drinks and picnic, and positioned in a viewing area outside of the exclusion zone for the fireworks display. All for $499 per person, departing from King Street Wharf at 7.30 pm and returning at 1 am.

Aussie Magic New Year’s Eve Cruise

Step into the new year in style on board Aussie Magic, a stylish 26-metre catamaran with a super spacious outdoor entertaining deck. Catch jaw-dropping views of the midnight fireworks after enjoying a night of cocktail style dining—canapes, buffet, free-flowing drinks, which are all included in the $650 per person price. But for 5.5 hours of cruising around the harbour with your nearest and dearest, it’s a big treat yourself kind of night every Sydneysider should experience at least once. Aussie Magic departs from Star City Casino Wharf at 7.30pm and returns around 1am.

My Way New Year’s Eve Cruise

Leave 2021 behind your way. The newly refurbished My Way vessel is ready for NYE, and so are we. Revel under the sparkling city lights as the sun goes down and enjoy a picturesque vista of the midnight fireworks from inside the exclusion zone, all the while enjoying the all-inclusive perks of a good NYE cruise: chef’s selection of canapes, buffet menu, music, and more. The two dining rooms are fully air-conditioned too, so the humidity won’t be a problem at all. There’s limited seating aboard My Way – with only 100 seats – so you’ll want to get in quick to secure a spot on a less-crowded cruise.

Tall Ship Dinner Cruise

Most NYE cruises around Sydney are on modernised boats. But why not take a step on the traditional sailing boat side this New Year’s? Choose between three tall ships for an unforgettable dinner cruise on the harbour, all offering front-row views of the fireworks. Dine on fresh seafood, gourmet barbecue, and more, accompanied by bottomless wine, beer, soft drinks, and live music during the 5.5-hour cruise. Prices start at $550 per person, which is a great deal for an all-inclusive NYE cruise.

Vagabond Spirit NYE

Jump aboard one of the newer vessels in Sydney Harbour to celebrate the new year in all-inclusive style. The MV Vagabond Spirit will surely get you into the party mood, with party streamers and party hats handed out and an all-night DJ and light show across two levels. In the food department, dig into a gorgeous menu, which includes tempting appetisers, a seafood buffet and carvery, and decadent desserts freshly cooked on board. There’ll also be an open bar, with premium brand drinks, including spirits. The large observation deck offers 360-degree views of Sydney Harbour, so it’s a perfect spot to watch the fireworks. At $725 per person for six hours of cruising fun, Vagabond Spirit NYE is the ultimate way to ring in the new year.

Glass Island

Add a sprinkle of glamour to your New Year’s Eve with a night on the glorious Glass Island cruise. Prices start at $565.95 and include a 3-hour beverage package of beer, wine, cider, sparkling and soft drinks, canapes, gourmet food stations, and a glass of Moet Chandon at midnight while watching the spectacular fireworks display. Glass Island will take you one of the best spots in the harbour too, departing from King Street Wharf at 8.50pm sharp and returning at 12.30am.

Waratah New Year’s Eve Cruise

Fancy to spend your NYE on the beautiful heritage boat, Waratah? This 1902 steam tug will not only have you feeling like you’ve just stepped back in time and offers epic viewing of both the 9pm and midnight firework displays. It’s BYO dinner, snacks, and beverages on Waratah, so at least you’ll be able to bring your favourites goodies on board. Waratah will depart from Pyrmont at 7pm and return around 1am.

Magistic Cruises

This whopping 7.25-hour cruise includes everything you could possibly need to tick off your NYE cruise bucket list—gourmet seafood buffet (including fresh king prawns), premium beer, wine, and spirits, DJ and dancing on board, fireworks views from inside the exclusion zone. You can’t go wrong. You can check also out the delicious food menu on the Magistic Cruises website .

Starship Aqua

Celebrate the New Year’s Eve festivities on the two-level glass boat, Starship Aqua, which boasts pristine views at each glance. This 6-hour cruise has all-inclusive canapes and food stalls, Australian beers and premium wines, non-allocated seating, and of course a DJ throwing down non-stop tunes to get you moving throughout the night. Prices start at $650 per person and the cruise will depart from King Street Wharf at 7.30 pm and returns at 1am.

New Year's Eve on Sydney Harbor - unforgettable

If you happen to be in Sydney for New Year's Eve, don't miss the chance to be on the harbor for the fireworks. Captain Cook Cruises was one of only a handful of vessels in the inner harbor where you can see all the fireworks -- overhead, over the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, Luna Park -- from the most central location. After the early fireworks show, the ship was one of the parade of ships, with all the ships outlined in white lights. My husband said later "This wasn't on my bucket list, but it should have been." It's pricey, but worth it.

Dear MJB521, Thank you for your review of your NYE cruise with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you enjoyed the location of the vessel, the vantage point it offered for the fireworks and the overall cruise. We agree that this is something that should definitely be on your bucket list. Once again thank you for your review, it is appreciated. Kind Regards, Head of Customer Service Captain Cook Cruises

We had a wonderful time with Captain Cook Harbour Story Cruise. Customer service was great, very professional staff on board. Our tour Gide was friendly with lots of knowledge about Sydney Harbour. There was also complementary Tea/Coffee and Snacks for the passengers on board. We like to recommend people who wants to do Harbour Cruise with a beautiful cruise ship and professional tour guide.

Dear AzmiriLipi, Thank you for your review of your Harbour Story cruise with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you found the customer service great, the commentary good and enjoyed the included self serve tea, coffee & biscuits. We agree that this is a wonderful way to see the harbour. Once again thank you for your review, it is appreciated. Kind Regards, Head of Customer Service Captain Cook Cruises.

Fantastic time on 22 Jan most importantly Sharon the waitress was absolutely outstanding which added to the experience

Dear rosehort99, Thank you for your review of your High Tea cruise with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you enjoyed the service from Sharon and found the overall experience outstanding. Once again thank you for your review, it is appreciated. Kind Regards, Head of Customer Service Captain Cook Cruises

I was going with my girl yesterday (valentine day), when we were approaching the wharf, the cruise on the website called "John Carmon II" has been replaced by a big cruise called "Sydney 2000", looks much better than JCII. Three deck cruses looks fantastic, we went on the second (Middle) deck, (note: the top deck called the Star deck has 6 courses and Penfolds along with the course, can easily access to the top deck.) , which doesnot make difference to me because the band in our level is the best !! Well, Staff services is pretty good also, but never expect quality food with breathtaking view!!

Dear Manucxl, Thank you for your review of your Valentines Dinner with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you found the MV Sydney 2000 very impressive and the band exceptional. We agree that the views are breathtaking. Once again thank you for your review, it is appreciated. Kind Regards, Head of Customer Service Captain Cook Cruises

My partner and I went on the "Lovers Dinner" cruise on Valentines day. After having dinner on the "Penfolds" cruise a few months ago (which was amazing) we were really looking forward to our evening out. Canapés followed by a 3 course dinner, with a chocolate gift to take home, in addition to a glass of Moet on arrival and beer, wine and soft drink included. When we arrived, we were surprised to see that people were already eating. As we got to our table, we were appalled by a plate of leftovers that someone had moved on to our table and were surprised that the waitress didn't remove this when she seated us. After looking around the room, we established that this wasn't a plate of leftovers. It was the canapés. Two filo triangles and two chicken nuggets. They were room temperature, from sitting on the table for who knows how long. They were clearly pre-served before people got onto the boat. That was the first disappointment. Then, it took about 20 minutes before we were even able to get a drink, and we only managed to get that when we waved over a waiter who wasn't even meant to be looking after our table. Prior to that, we had asked our waitress for a glass of champagne, and she advised us that they didn't have any on the boat, but they were organising some. Considering a glass of Moet was part of the booking, you would think that they would have this available, especially at the start of the evening! Our entrées were dismal, and had just been slapped onto a plate. We were surprised that the canapés and entrees had been sent out prior to even leaving the harbour (Darling Harbour) It certainly would have been more suitable if the courses were spread throughout the evening. Mains were a step up, but it was really just "pub" food. Steak and some broccoli, onion and tomatoes. My partner had salmon with asparagus, peas and tomatoes. Pretty average overall. Dessert was dried chocolate cake, with whipped cream and a defrosted strawberry. Our chocolate gift was a small box containing a chocolate, but there was only one per couple. Drinks throughout the evening were so scarce, that we ended up going to the bar ourselves, and asking for a bottle. The above all makes me sound snooty or snobbish, however we paid a lot of money (something that was a treat for us) for this dinner. You would think that paying well over $300 would provide you with delicious food, and great service. Very disappointed. At the end of the evening, they were very quick to get us off of the ship. It was meant to be a 3 hour cruise, departing at 7.30pm and arriving back in the harbour at 10.30pm. We were back by around 10pm. We had the lights turned off, and then the air-con turned up. Not very subtle at all. Considering they had finished up early, I didn't think it would be unreasonable to be able to finish our glass of wine at the table. It may have been because it was a special event, and I hope their usual service is much better. However this still hasn't left us with a very good opinion of them..

We went on the afternoon cruise to look at the harbor. This two hour cruise gives you a great look at the harbor from the bridge all the way to the headlands at the Tasman Sea. During the cruise you get commentary about contemporary Sydney as well as the history. We found this interesting although the narration was a little stale. If you enjoy being out on the water this gives you an interesting view of the city. Definitely sit on the starboard side of the boat.

Dear Susan M, Thank you for your review of your Harbour Story cruise with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you found the commentary interesting an the overall cruise great. We agree that the views of the city from the water are stunning. Once again thank you for your review, it is appreciated. Kind Regards, Head of Customer Service Captain Cook Cruises

The Best Deals for New Year’s Eve Cruises in Sydney

Disclosure: We love how our audience helps us grow. This post may contain affiliate links. Please check our disclosure policy for more information.

Sydney is one of the best places in the world to be this 2021 New Year’s Eve, and being out on the water is even better!

We’re just waiting for the final details to be released… then we’ll find you the best deals to get you out on a cruise in Sydney Harbour this New Year’s Eve.

Being such a popular event, cruise deals are hard to come by so make the most of these opportunities before they sell out!

Tip – We know from previous experience how busy Sydney Harbour gets during events like these. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your departure wharf and be sure which number you will leave from (it helps to know exactly what your boat looks like!). There will be several queues waiting for their boats – many of which get crossed over and it can be confusing, and a little chaotic!

Whilst these deals may not seem the cheapest, they offer a significant value for money and saving on the packages you can get (cruise, food, drink, etc).

Full Price NYE Cruise Offers

There are a number of alternative New Year’s Eve cruises available around Sydney Harbour with some already sold out for this year. Captain Cook New Years Eve Dinner Cruise

Where do I start??? Well the word ripoff comes to mind immediately having just experienced what Captain Cook sells as a $700 experience. Is it fair that I am expecting something pretty special after spending $700 for a 5 hour event???? So what am I getting??? New Years Eve...........FREE Fireworks..........FREE Sidney Harbour.......FREE So I,m paying for all this from a CC boat plus dinner and drinks???? OK, It's New Year, right. I arrived at the Darling Harbour Jetty at 7pm as instructed with no boat in sight. I approach a Captain Cook representative ( in fact the same person who had sold me my $700 ticket a few days before) to enquire and got a completely unapologetic response. Finally we are herded onto this boat, Captain Cook 3 the pride of the CC fleet I've been told. What I see in front of me is a very tired looking vessel in need of a facelift. Ok so I,m on board now, I've been shown to my table and welcomed aboard through the boats public address system. The nibbles arrive one by one looking like something off the shelf of a low grade supermarket and we are offered drinks. Is there any sense of Christmas/New Year on board by way of decoration?? NO The dining room looks looks like any day in fact a bad day. Something thrown together, poorly set tables, sad looking banquet chairs. Remember I've just paid $700 for this so I,m expecting something special, right. Yes I,m in Sydney on New Years Eve, that's special but FREE I,m at the beautiful Sydney Harbour and that's FREE too I,m going to experience the world famous fireworks which are FREE I,ve been told there is a dress code, no shorts, no T-shirts. Dress like you're going to a party it says on the ticket. Fine, after all this is going to be something special for my $700, YES??? NO, I,M AFRAID NOT. So the buffet dinner starts and we line up for our New Years Eve dinner like a factory canteen. And the food is presented better in a factory canteen. There is nobody to tell what each dish is, so you gave to ask other passengers what they think it is, chicken?beef?lamb?fish? I spy lobster, my favourite, things are looking up, right? I juggle my way back to my overcrowded table with no elbow room. The food is at best, average. So what about the lobster?? TOUGH AS OLD BOOTS. Back to the dress code and I see many gave made an effort to DRESS FOR A PARTY while others turn up in SHORTS AND T-SHIRTS. Why have a dress code if you have no intention of enforcing it. We reach the highlight of the evening, the fireworks, did I mention you can see the same fireworks FREE from a hundred places on the harbour. And yes the fireworks were amazing. On deck there is a DJ and the music is mega loud. Although the passengers are a mix of ages the music is for the young set. The last straw was being accosted by a drunk with a beef about the Vietnam War quite amazing as he was too young to remember it, go figure!!! So altogether it was not a good experience. My advice to future New Years Eve travellers to Sydney is avoid Captain Cooks Ripoff cruises

Dear Vincent 210949, We were disappointed to read your comments and feel very sorry you were unable to enjoy the greatest New Year’s Eve harbour celebration spectacle ever created, on the world’s most beautiful harbour packaged up with good quality food and beverage served in comfort and style and priced competitively. Thank you for your comments. We are sorry we didn’t meet your expectations. Sincerely, Richard Doyle Head of Sales and Marketing Captain Cook Cruises

How magnificent to experience such professional service from start to finish. Great organising at a very busy time of the year, pristine presentation in the Top Deck section, great service , food tasty and plentiful. Our attendant/waitress was delightful, Lisa was always on hand, polite & friendly. Wheelchair access to lower deck. Thank you to all the crew.

Dear sixteendays, Thanks so much for your fantastic review of your Top Deck Lunch Cruise with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you found the cruise well organised and presented, that the food was tasty and that you were greeted with great customer service from Lisa. Once again thank you for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Richard Doyle Head of Sales & Marketing Captain Cook Cruises

Taking the ferry over to Taronga Zoo wih Captain Cook Cruise. Horrible logistics. Seems like they sold too many tickets for the number of ferries they had running which meant we had to wait 1 hour in line. It got to a point where people were yelling at each other because they hadn't set up barriers and we were all desperate to get on the ferry. An absolute nightmare for the big families with young children and prams. If you are going over to the zoo with small children or have people in your group with wheelchairs, definitely choose another ferry company.

Dear Novjng, We were disappointed to read your comments relating to our Taronga Zoo service. We had scheduled extra ferry services to cope with the very strong demand and we had in place a process to board passengers from different gates. We sincerely apologise for the not meeting your expectations and thank your patience as we did try to move all our passengers. Best regards Richard Doyle Head of Sales and Marketing Captain Cook Cruises

Eight of us (all family) went around Sydney Harbour the day after Boxing Day and I specifically chose Captain Cook cruises as they have never disappointed. Sure enough, we got a Hop-on Hop-off ticket for the day (HOHO - perfect for Christmas) at a great discount, and we travelled around the Harbour on a fast jet catamaran with a superb commentary by an on-board narrator who could actually be heard and was quite funny. We've lived here for 15 years and he still came out with things we didn't know! The boat was clean, quick and exactly what we ordered. Well done Captain Cook!

Dear RoystaDoysta, Thank you so much for your fantastic review of your recent Hop On Hop Off cruise with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you found the commentary superb and interesting, thought that the cruise was great value for money and that you enjoyed the vessel. We agree that this is a great way to spend the day with your family. Once again thank you for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Richard Doyle Head of Sales & Marketing Captain Cook Cruises

My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 hour cruise around the Sydney Harbor. Cruise was very informative & took us past Fort Denison, Shark Island, Manly, Taranga Zoo, and under the world-famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. Very enjoyable & highly recommended!

Dear JSparrow, Thank you so much for your fantastic review of your recent sightseeing cruise with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you enjoyed the route that the cruise took, found the commentary informative and enjoyed the cruise overall. Once again thank you for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Richard Doyle Head of Sales & Marketing Captain Cook Cruises

Had Christmas lunch on the club deck and absolutely loved it, the atmosphere was great and the boat was lovely. Only problem was the food was not all that good, it could have been better but the staff were fantastic and so friendly. Beer was lovely but the wine was cheap and a bit nasty. Overall I would do it again but only if they just upgraded their food choices with a bit more flavour.

Dear Opini8db, Thank you for your recent review with us on Sydney Harbour. We were delighted to read that you enjoyed the boat and found the atmosphere lovely. We were disappointed to read your comments in regards to our food and wine as we believe our food is of a high standard. We agree that this is a great Christmas outing. Once again thank you for your feedback. Kind Regards, Richard Doyle Head of Sales and Marketing Captain Cook Cruises
