Everything about it is is well done

This app is really good for a lot of us OK first off when you’re talking a lot there’s this button not the not on the left bottom but you click the button and you could just talk to it when you’re talking for a while and then and then ChatGPT we’ll talk to you with you. It’s really fun to use in my opinion I think if you were probably using chat if I think a lot of AI apps apps with this feature, it would probably cost a lot of money and I like that open and I decided to have to use it for free. I think it’s really good for beginners using using the app because then they can think about using chat for mind blowing and only that if you’re talking a lot and you don’t want to use the voice talk with him you want to talk with you you could just do one feature that will blow your mind. They have this on this on my writing thing and then if you’re talking about you submit it and then he writes and you just read it it’s really cool to use it I think it’s and I think not enough to 96% of the time when you talk it’s always gonna be accurate, so I only that in settings when you talk to chat with you with when you press the headphone icon when you’re chatting with it really good feature the feature is, you can change the voice I forgot the voice I use, but I but I like changing your voice especially if you don’t like the voice now that is mostly what I’m gonna say and I think this app is just awesome and every way possible

Absolute game changer… astounding!

Once you understand how to input and work with it this program, it has been a life changer for me. I find myself using it more than I use Google. It has given me back hours, an hour of time that I can develop and devote to my business instead of trying to craft business letters, and replies and responses in the old fashion way. I can’t even share an effective analogy… Maybe the difference of horse and carriage to the car or the old standard telephone to the current smart phone. The difference is staggering. The only thing I would say, is you don’t use ChatGPT the way you would use a Google search. The thinking is completely different. It is a literal conversation that continues, where are you are basically carving the statue of David from a giant block of marble. You start carving away and refining and refining and refining until you get exactly what you want. I’m at the point where I can do this in a little as a few minutes and get exactly what I want time. When I’m working with ChatGPT, it feels like I’m working with a real person.. I’m astounded.

Much more accessible for blind users than the web version

Up to this point I’ve mostly been using ChatGPT on my windows desktop using Google Chrome. While it’s doable, screen reader navigation is pretty difficult on the desktop site and you really have to be an advanced user to find your way through it. I have submitted numerous feedbacks to open AI about this but nothing has changed on that front. Well, the good news – the iOS app pretty much addresses all of those problems. The UI seems really clean, uncluttered and designed well to be compatible with voiceover, the screen reader built into iOS. I applaud the inclusivity of this design – I only wish they would give the same attention and care to the accessibility experience of the desktop app. I would have given this review five stars but I have just a couple minor quibbles. First, once I submit my prompt, voiceover starts to read aloud ChatGPT‘s response before that response is finished, so I will hear the first few words of the response followed by voiceover reading aloud the “stop generating” button, which isn’t super helpful. It would be great if you could better coordinate this alert so that it didn’t start reading the message until it had been fully generated. The other thing I’d like is a Feedback button easily accessible from within the main screen of the app, to make it as easy as possible to get continuing suggestions and feedback from your users. Otherwise, fantastic app so far!

How to use ChatGPT as a Siri shortcut on your iPhone or iPad

lance-31.png

Want to access ChatGPT on your iPhone or iPad? You can always browse to OpenAI's ChatGPT website in Safari every time you want to use it . But a more convenient option is to set up a Siri shortcut that works with the AI. And instead of trying to create your own such shortcut, a few custom predesigned ones are available for you to download and install.

Also:   How to use ChatGPT to create an app

In my testing, I checked out three different ChatGPT Siri shortcuts -- SiriGPT, ChatGPT Siri, and Siri Pro. All of them worked similarly to bring the power of ChatGPT to an iPhone and iPad.

After the shortcut is set up, you're able to trigger it a few different ways. You can open the Shortcuts app and tap the icon for the shortcut. You can add the shortcut to your Home screen where it's more easily available. Plus, you can run the shortcut by telling Siri to activate it.

1. Get API keys

Your first step is to get the necessary API keys from Open AI. These keys are used by a ChatGPT shortcut to send your requests to the ChatGPT service and receive the responses. The process for obtaining the keys is the same no matter which ChatGPT shortcut you use.

Also: Do you like asking ChatGPT questions? You could get paid (a lot) for it

On your iPhone or iPad, open Safari and head to the Open AI platform page . If you don't already have an account with OpenAI, tap the button for Sign up. Otherwise, tap the button for Log in and sign in with your account. Tap the three line hamburger icon in the upper right, scroll to the bottom of the Settings menu, and select your profile. From the profile menu, tap View API keys .

Select the option for View API keys.

2. Create new secret key

At the API keys screen, tap the button for Create new secret key . Press down on the key to select the entire string and then tap Copy. Open a note and paste the key. If you plan to try more than one ChatGPT shortcut, return to the Open AI platform page, tap OK, and then tap Create new secret key to generate another key. Repeat the copy and paste.

Copy and paste the API key.

Now, let's check out each of the three ChatGPT shortcuts.

How to use SiriGPT

1. get the shortcut.

Open the SiriGPT shortcut page on your device and tap the button for Get Shortcut . At the shortcuts screen, tap the button for Add Shortcut . The shortcut appears in the Shortcuts app.

Add the SiriGPT shortcut.

2. Add the API key

Return to the note in which you pasted one or more of the API keys. Select and copy one set of keys. Back in the Shortcuts app, tap the three-dot icon for the SiriGPT shortcut. In the text field, remove the phrase ADD API KEY HERE and then paste the API key you just copied. Tap Done.

Paste the API key.

3. Run SiriGPT

Tap the SiriGPT shortcut to run it. The first time you do this, you'll be asked to allow it access to Speech Recognition. Tap Allow.

Run the shortcut and allow the necessary permissions.

4. Ask a question

Type or speak your request. Tap Allow when asked to connect to api.openai.com. SiriGPT then displays and speaks the response. Tap Done at any point. Tap Done to stop the chat. Tap Ask Again to ask another question.

Read and listen to the response.

How to use ChatGPT Siri

Open the ChatGPT Siri shortcut page in Safari and tap the button for Get Shortcut . At the shortcuts screen, tap the button for Add Shortcut . The shortcut then pops up in the Shortcuts app.

Add the shortcut.

Tap the three-dot icon for the shortcut. In the text field, delete the phrase "Replace this with your own API key!" and paste one of the API keys you copied from Open AI. Tap Done.

3. Ask a question

Tap the ChatGPT shortcut. Type your request in the text field or speak it by tapping the keyboard's microphone icon. Allow ChatGPT to connect to api.openai.com. The response then appears on the screen.

View the response.

How to use Siri Pro

Open the Siri Pro shortcut page in the browser and tap the button for Get Shortcut . At the shortcuts screen, tap the button for Add Shortcut . The shortcut pops up in the Shortcuts app.

Tap the shortcut's three-dot icon. In the text field, delete the phrase "GENERATE & ADD YOUR API KEY HERE" and paste an API key that you copied from Open AI. Tap Done.

Tap the Siri Pro shortcut. Type your request in the text field or speak it by tapping keyboard's microphone icon. Allow Siri Pro to connect to api.openai.com. By default, the shortcut only speaks the response and doesn't display it. But if you're skilled enough with Siri shortcuts, you may be able to tweak this one to display a response on the screen as well.

Listen to the response.

How to trigger a shortcut from the Home screen

Instead of launching a shortcut through the Shortcuts app, you can more easily trigger it from the Home screen.

1. Add to Home screen

To set this up, press down on the icon for one of the ChatGPT shortcuts and select Share. From the Share menu, tap the option for Add to Home Screen . Preview the name and icon for the shortcut and then tap Add.

Add the shortcut to the Home screen.

2. Ask a question

Tap the icon on the Home screen and then speak or type your request to receive a response.

Run the shortcut from the Home screen.

How to trigger a shortcut through Siri

An even quicker way is to run a shortcut through Siri. Simply say: "Hey Siri [name of shortcut]." If Siri doesn't understand that you want it to run a shortcut due to confusion with the name, then your best bet it to rename the shortcut.

To do this, press down on it in the Shortcuts app and select Rename from the menu. Choose a name that won't conflict with an existing command. Try calling on Siri again. Speak or type your request and wait for the response.

Tell Siri to run the shortcut.

How to Use ChatGPT App on iPhone

After you’ve installed ChatGPT on your iPhone, you can get instant answers about anything and everything. However, do not take anything at face value, as ChatGPT can be inaccurate. It is best to do in-depth research when looking for factually correct information for important tasks.

Also, please refrain from sharing any sensitive information with ChatGPT or any other AI chatbot you use over the internet. It is a precautionary method to protect your privacy as AI trainers use stored data to find the inaccuracies and improve the model. So, people will come across your personal information even if they don’t intend on doing so.

With that said, here’s how to use the ChatGPT app on iPhone.

1.  Open the  ChatGPT  app on your iPhone.

2.  Tap  Log in  or  Sign Up  for the service using your existing OpenAI account, Apple ID, Google account, or any other Email. The onboarding interface is horrible. The DOB will not let you type in a date, but requiring you to use a date picker interface that is frustratingly unuseful in its design.

That’s unfortunate…folks have been complaining about that rotary date-picker for so long that you’d think. developers would learn to use a pop-up calendar instead, or allow you to type it and use RegEx to put it in the correct format.

How to download the official ChatGPT app to your iPhone

The official ChatGPT app is here for iOS, but can it replace Siri?

The ChatGPT app interface on iPhone

OpenAI ’s ChatGPT is now the fastest-growing consumer app in history, so it was only a matter of time before we saw the mega-popular chatbot make its way to Apple’s iOS platform.

You can now access a free and official version of ChatGPT on the best iPhones , with data history synced across devices (so you can see your ChatGPT interactions on both the web and iOS). OpenAI says the app "will expand to additional countries in the coming weeks".

OpenAI ChatGPT , as the app is officially known, is built on GPT-3, but you’ll be able to access ChatGPT Plus and GPT-4-powered services, too, by logging into your account or upgrading (for $19.99 per month) through the app.

In this article, we explain how to download ChatGPT on iPhone. An equivalent Android app is also “coming soon,” OpenAI says, and it’s worth remembering that you can still use Microsoft ’s Bing app to access ChatGPT if you don’t own an iPhone.

How to download ChatGPT on iPhone

First thing’s first, to download ChatGPT on iPhone, you’ll need your device to be running iOS 16.1 or later. To check your phone’s software level, head to Settings, General and Software Update. Alternatively, read our guide on how to update your iPhone to iOS 16 .

Once you know your iPhone is compatible with the ChatGPT app, navigate to the Apple App store and search for ‘OpenAI ChatGPT’ in the search bar. Alternatively, just follow this link to the official ChatGPT iOS app . You’re looking for the app with the black and white ChatGPT logo (see below).

Hit ‘Get’ as you would any other iPhone app, and you’re ready to start chatting. ChatGPT for iOS is also integrated with Whisper – OpenAI’s open source speech recognition system – so you’ll be able to use your voice to get answers, too.

Can ChatGPT replace Siri on your iPhone?

Suffice to say, Siri is not in a good way right now . Earlier this year, the New York Times ran a story explaining how Apple had “lost the AI race” to companies like OpenAI, and it’s hard not to agree with that sentiment when comparing the functionality of Siri with ChatGPT.

Siri is correctly described in that NYT report as “clunky” and lacking “basic features” – however, in our view, ChatGPT for iPhone isn’t a good enough replacement for Apple’s voice assistant just yet.

Siri interface on iPhone display

For all Siri’s lack of intelligence when it comes to answering actual questions, the software is integrated into the iPhone itself in a way that ChatGPT simply isn’t, even if you use iOS shortcuts to boost Siri with ChatGPT . In the ChatGPT iOS app, controls are pretty much limited to launching a new chat, signing out and deleting your account – there’s no option to set a reminder on your iPhone, for instance.

The more worried party should be Google , whose web browser – which is the default search engine in Safari – will surely take a hit from those using the iPhone’s new ChatGPT app for general search queries.

ChatGPT on iOS gets improved iPad support and Shortcuts integration

Openai has also added drag and drop support so you can drag individual messages into other apps..

OpenAI is improving ChatGPT on iPad today with a new update designed to take advantage of the entire iPad screen. The updated ChatGPT app for iOS and iPadOS also includes drag and drop, Siri support, and Shortcuts integration.

iPad support means ChatGPT will now run full-screen on Apple’s tablets, instead of as an iPhone sized app running on a bigger display. Little else has changed for the iPad version though, as you’re still presented with a chat interface and options to switch between GPT-3.5 or GPT-4. OpenAI has also added drag and drop support here, so any messages can now be dragged out of the chat interface and into other apps.

The update also lets you summon ChatGPT from Siri and use the chatbot with Apple’s Shortcuts feature. This lets you generate a ChatGPT query in Shortcuts to start a new chat and integrate that into Apple’s Shortcuts automation.

OpenAI has been gradually improving its ChatGPT app on iOS and iPadOS since launching the mobile version last month , making improvements to chat history and voice input in recent updates. The company also plans to release an app for Android in the near future. OpenAI launched a premium subscription for ChatGPT in February called ChatGPT Plus , that offers priority access and the latest GPT-4 model for $20 a month.

This shortcut brings deep ChatGPT integration to native iOS features and apps

Avatar for Chance Miller

We’ve seen OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology come to Apple devices in a number of different ways, including with dedicated apps for iPhone and Apple Watch . The newest entry to the scene is an incredibly powerful and versatile shortcut from the folks over at MacStories , which ties ChatGPT into your favorite iOS features and apps…

S-GPT is a shortcut for your Apple devices created by the one-and-only Federico Viticci. The goal of S-GPT is to take the power of ChatGPT and tie it in with native features of iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and macOS. It’s described as an “advanced conversational shortcut” that’s based on the ChatGPT API.

Part of Federico’s inspiration for S-GPT was seeing how well Microsoft is integrating ChatGPT with Windows. “I’m jealous that the same isn’t true on Apple platforms,” Federico writes in his announcement blog post:

So, more than a simple bot to have a conversation with ChatGPT in Shortcuts, I set out to create a tool that would connect ChatGPT responses to native iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS functionalities. I wanted to create a ChatGPT-based utility that would help you process  your  data and make things happen on  your  computer rather than simply answer trivia questions or write poems.

In this first version, S-GPT supports integrations with the following features of iOS, macOS, and iPadOS:

  • Safari share sheet: “If you share a webpage with S-GPT, it’ll try to summarize it for you.”
  • Clipboard: ChatGPT can process the contents of anything on your clipboard to do things like summarize the contents, check for grammar mistakes, and more.
  • Reminders and Calendar
  • Live Text: “You can use S-GPT to summarize text extracted from any image in your photo library via Apple’s Live Text technology.”
  • Quick Look, Files, Finder, Translate, and other export actions: You can use these integrations to export your S-GPT conversations and save them.

chat gpt safari ios

But one of the most impressive features of S-GPT is how it integrates with the Music app. As Federico explains:

This is the big one: S-GPT can make a playlist in Apple’s Music app for any list of songs returned by ChatGPT. As long as there’s a list of songs provided by S-GPT, you can ask it to turn it into a playlist and you’ll end up with a brand new, actual playlist in the Music app. Try asking  “Make me a playlist with 10 emo songs from the late 2000s”  or  “I want a playlist with the top 15 songs by the members of boygenius.” This is still the surface. ChatGPT can find and recommend songs by vibe, release date, mood, and more. Imagine this: “I’m feeling nostalgic. Make me a playlist with 25 mellow indie rock songs released between 2000 and 2010 and sort them by release year, from oldest to most recent.”

Some of the things I tried specifically using the Apple Music integration:

  • “Create a playlist of Codplay’s Grammy-winning songs”
  • “Create a playlist of 15 songs produced by Jack Antonoff and not performed by Bleachers”
  • “Create a playlist of 10 one hit wonders from the late 90s and early 2000s”
  • “Create a playlist of every Coldplay song that has appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, sorted by release date”
  • “Create a playlist of 15 deep cut Coldplay songs”

What Federico has built with S-GPT is incredibly impressive, both for the raw functionality of the shortcut and also in terms of privacy. “Unlike other shortcuts for ChatGPT, your conversations are only ever sent to the OpenAI API: by default, the shortcut does  not  keep a log or cache of your chats unless you manually ask it to export a transcript,” he explains.

One thing to note is that you will need an API key from OpenAI for ChatGPT to use with S-GPT. You can enable the pay-as-go billing option, which costs $0.002 per 1K tokens. “I’ve been testing S-GPT extensively for the past month, and my usage is up to $1.50 so far,” Federico says.

chat gpt safari ios

The 1.0 version of S-GPT I’m releasing today is just the beginning for this shortcut. In the weeks I’ve spent building S-GPT, it has turned out to be a transformative shortcut that is altering my idea of chatting with an assistant on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. I’m happy with the system integrations the shortcut has so far, but I’m working on a lot more for future updates – including the ability to run Terminal commands and scripts on macOS or ways to let ChatGPT process the contents of text documents from Files and Finder. Once I realized the potential for a large language model combined with Shortcuts’ native OS integrations, I knew this shortcut could be something special.

Nobody can explain what S-GPT does better than Federico himself, so I’ll refer you to his full write-up over at MacStories for all the details. You can also hear him talk through some examples of S-GPT use cases on the latest episode of the Connected podcast on Relay FM .

You can download S-GPT from the MacStories website and set it up via the Shortcuts app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. I highly recommend giving it a try, even if you’ve previously been skeptical about the usefulness of ChatGPT.

You can now get ChatGPT on your iPhone through this hidden shortcut — here’s how

Create playlists, keep up with your schedule and more with S-GPT

The ChatGPT logo is seen on an iPhone held by someone off camera.

ChatGPT is able to be integrated into a lot if you know what you’re doing. Using the ChatGPT API , you can even insert the popular chatbot into your phone — including using ChatGPT with Siri .

But this latest shortcut uses ChatGPT to supercharge your entire iPhone , iPad , MacBook (or Mac desktop) or Apple Watch . This way, you can have it everywhere you go.

As reported by our friends over at TechRadar , S-GPT is an Apple shortcut developed by Federico Viticci and uses the ChatGPT API to integrate with Apple’s applications themselves.

S-GPT works with either ChatGPT-3.5 or ChatGPT-4 if you are a ChatGPT Plus subscriber. However, Viticci says that you don’t need the extra boosts that ChatGPT Plus gives you, so you don’t need it for S-GPT to work as intended.

Below, I will briefly explain how to set up the shortcut, and then get into some of the highlights of how it integrates with Apple’s ecosystem.

How to set up S-GPT

There are a few key steps you need to run S-GPT on your Apple device. First, you’ll need an OpenAI account — check out our guide on how to use ChatGPT to see how to create one — and make sure you have a pay-as-you-go billing plan . Because S-GPT uses the ChatGPT API, you need to pay to use it, though the costs are small. The API costs only costs $0.002 per 1,000 tokens (a token is pieces of words that the chatbot uses to process prompts). Viticci says he's only spent $1.50 so far using S-GPT. If you have ChatGPT Plus, you still need to pay for these tokens, so again, you really don’t need it to run S-GPT.

Once your account is set up, you’ll need to get a ChatGPT API Key . This can be found in the API Reference section of your account settings on the OpenAI platform site . Scroll down to API keys and select “Create a new secret key.” This gives you an API key that will give the S-GPT shortcut access to ChatGPT. Copy this key — you’ll need it soon.

Next, you’ll need to download the S-GPT shortcut onto your device . Once that is downloaded, begin the setup process for the shortcut. When it prompts you for an API key, paste in the API key you copied earlier and you should be good to go. Then, download the S-GPT Encoder . If the S-GPT shortcut was set up properly and the S-GPT Encoder is installed, the shortcut should work as expected. It should even work with Siri !

How S-GPT integrates with Apple’s ecosystem

S-GPT ChatGPT shortcut

There are a ton of applications for S-GPT. First, there is Safari, the default web browser for Apple. With Share Sheet, you can take any webpage in Safari and share it with S-GPT and it will attempt to summarize it.

Similarly, the shortcut can analyze the text in your clipboard. This requires the use of the trigger word, which is a key part of how S-GPT operates. In this instance, using “clipboard” in your prompt will know to use your clipboard for whatever you are prompting it to do. This allows it to check for mistakes or summarize your clipboard. Similarly, S-GPT can also analyze your Reminders and Calendar to keep you on track with the trigger word “my schedule”

There are a whole number of other functions that S-GPT can help you with, but the highlight for everyone so far has been its integration with the Music app. Using the trigger word “playlist” allows you to create a playlist of songs in the Music app, and you can get pretty specific with the request.

In his tutorial video on S-GPT, Brandon Butch uses the shortcut to “Create a playlist with 13 of the best workout songs that were released between 2015 and 2023, put an emphasis on hip-hop and sort them by newest to oldest.” Again, that’s a very specific request, yet S-GPT handles it — no problem.

Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to test this ChatGPT shortcut for ourselves, but if we do we will update this story. In the meantime check out our best ChatGPT tips to get the most out of your prompts.

ChatGPT - where can it go on iOS, iPadOS and macOS?

ChatGPT to the Future.

Petey and MacWhisper

It’s no secret that ChatGPT has turned the concept of an AI assistant on its head. Siri, Google Assistant, and even Google pale compared to what OpenAI is capable of.

In recent months, we’ve seen OpenAI’s service go from being accessible on the web to being an Apple Shortcut , followed by dedicated apps that you can download right now to your Mac , iPhone , iPad and Apple Watch . With WWDC 2023 announced for June 5, the jury is still out as to whether Apple will embrace AI in its future.

Could it perhaps help developers with new APIs to take advantage of ChatGPT in its apps? Or could this be the start of something new to replace Siri?

We asked two developers who have been leading the way with ChatGPT on iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac where things stand with AI on Apple’s devices – and where it could be in the near future.

Petey grows up

Petey on iOS

We had spoken to Hidde van der Ploeg before about his ChatGPT-based app Petey, available for  $4.99 / £4.99  on watchOS 6 and above, where you can tap it to type in or voice your requests using the AI, but he’s since released an update that also brings it to iPhone.

Version 2.0 also brings Shortcuts to Petey, so you can use it instead of Siri wherever you are on the iPhone, alongside the ability to send an answer from the watchOS app to iOS, and a Live Activity, so you can have Petey on the Dynamic Island of your iPhone 14 Pro.

We asked Ploeg whether he was surprised that Apple approved Petey to begin with - especially as the company has been known in the past to deny apps that directly compete with its own apps. “Not really, as when I submitted the first version as watchGPT, I wasn’t aware of GPT being trademarked,” Ploeg explains. “Still, I always thought of giving the robot a bit of character and called it Petey internally anyway. I wouldn’t see any reason why Apple would reject it otherwise (and they shouldn’t).”

With WWDC looming, we also asked Ploeg if he was hoping that Apple at least acknowledges AI at its keynote on June 5 with an API or something else. “Oh definitely! I would love them to launch a ChatGPT-like API. If they can pull it off in similar terms as they did with WeatherKit I think a lot of apps could benefit from integrating AI in their apps to solve complex problems,” Ploeg continues.

“Right now, the OpenAI API is fairly easy, but to be able to ship it in an app using your own key requires a lot of work for security reasons, or you have to ask the user to perform something “technical”. I’m pretty sure most people have no idea what an API key is. And then I haven’t mentioned the costs even yet. If Apple can pull it off in a similar way as they did with WeatherKit then we’re in for a treat this fall.”

Petey on iOS

It’s hard to imagine Apple not acknowledging AI at WWDC, so we asked Ploeg what he would like to see from Apple to take Petey even further. “I would love to get access to those great new Siri voices. The ones we’re getting as developers now feel quite old. Live Activities on watchOS would be amazing too, as it shows value on Petey for iOS.”

Finally, as we’ve used Petey on Apple Watch since its launch, we've realized that it could be a great tool to use ChatGPT for accessibility - it could tell the user what’s nearby or if any appliances are on nearby, that should be switched off.

We asked Ploeg if he also thought there was a future for Petey with accessibility. “I think AI will be great at making complex things understandable. Focussing on Watch, we could look at really quickly getting answers to complex questions and or being able to translate complex health-related insights to be easier to understand. Machine Learning always has been great for this, but access to data has always been the hardest part.”

With more and more trained models being available for developers, it will be interesting to see where things will go. The only thing I’m a bit scared of is being Sherlocked by a great new version of Siri (you can’t beat integration like that). However, the Siri brand really needs a shot in the arm, and I will always try to explore new ways of solving problems. So if anything, I’m excited!”

GPT Turismo

MacGPT on macOS

Jordi Bruin has built two ChatGPT apps – MacGPT and MacWhisper – that ‘Mac-ify’ the AI experience, but help in different ways. MacGPT lets you bring up the AI through a Spotlight bar, the Menubar, or the app. You can chat with it for suggestions and advice, and you can use it with the faster and more refined ChatGPT-4 if you wish.

You can drag and drop audio files into MacWhisper and the app will use ChatGPT to transcribe them, and you can jump back and forth in the transcription to copy and paste certain sections.

“I compare it to having access to a new API or framework from Apple after a big iOS or macOS update,” Bruin told me. “Using APIs such as ChatGPT makes it possible to add certain features that would not easily be possible before.”

“By building apps that are focused on this technology I’ve been able to learn very quickly what things can be made with this tech. It’s now trivial for me to add AI-powered features to my other apps and it has opened a wide range of possibilities.” Uncovering the germ of an idea is the challenge, of course. But AI can help with that as well, he notes: “More and more I’ve been using GPT4 to kickstart the development of new features. It really helps when I don’t know how to approach a certain problem if I let GPT give me some pointers.”

MacWhisper 2 on macOS

Given the power and prevalence of AI, how will Apple acknowledge the tech at WWDC in June? Will it be just the mention of an API? Will Apple help integrate the tech into new apps? “I think it will be really nice if Apple makes it easier to integrate these types of services into their platforms, but I don’t expect them to release their own version quite yet,” Bruin explains. “I think there won’t be one particular provider that will be best for all used cases, so I hope they make it easier to integrate the different providers out there.“

Bruin also hopes that existing frameworks available on some MacBooks could be expanded for AI. “They’ve already released some frameworks to run things such as stable diffusion better on M1 and M2 MacBooks and I hope they expand these frameworks to be more like their native frameworks. Running these things locally is a strength for Apple’s chips right now, so it would be good to lean into it more!”

Finally, with constant rumors of a VR headset , we asked Bruin if he sees a future where ChatGPT could be even more useful, especially in this category. “The main thing that ChatGPT could provide for the headset is a more intuitive user experience where you use regular language to interact with the environment. I think we’ll have to see how that plays out in the future though.”

ChatGPT for iOS gets support for Siri and Shortcuts

It also added ipad support and a drag and drop feature..

OpenAI has announced a few new updates for its iOS app , including Shortcuts integration. Now you can create a ChatGPT prompt in Shortcuts and save it as a link between the AI tool and different apps. For example, ask ChatGPT to answer a problem or look up a fact and then message the response to your friend or save it as a note. You can also now ask Siri to bring up ChatGPT or create these Shortcuts. ChatGPT for iOS already utilizes OpenAI's Whisper speech recognition for voice input, with Siri further expanding its accessibility.

A new drag and drop feature further integrates ChatGPT across iOS devices, letting you pull messages out of its interface and into other apps. It's a bit like the manual version of Shortcuts, so it's up to you which method to use.

ChatGPT is also going to be better supported across iPads moving forward. Previously, iPad users weren't getting a full-screen experience when using the app — OpenAI had only formatted it for iPhone-sized displays. Now it will take up all the screen real estate you have, ideally providing a less wonky experience.

The updates follow ChatGPT's recent expansion across Apple's platforms, with OpenAI first launching an iOS app for US users in mid-May and soon taking it to 11 more countries . Before these updates, the app already synced conversations to your computer and provided access to GPT-4 for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. While ChatGPT continues to advance its presence on Apple devices, Android owners still have to wait for an app.

ChatGPT for iOS Update Brings iPad, Siri and Shortcuts Support

chat gpt safari ios

OpenAI has released the first major update to its ChatGPT iOS app, with the new version adding native iPad support, as well as compatibility with Siri and Shortcuts.

New drag and drop functionality has also been added to the immensely popular generative AI chatbot, which is now available as an iOS download in over 40 countries. At the time of writing, it was still No.1 in the App Store in 31 of them.

Here’s a closer look at the new ChatGPT features for its iOS app and why we think they’re worth getting excited about.

ChatGPT App Lands on iPad

Arguably the biggest deal of ChatGPT’s new iOS update  is the arrival of native iPad support for OpenAI’s ChatGPT app.

Previously, the ChatGPT app had been available on iPad, but only in the sense that the iOS app technically worked on Apple’s tablet devices. It didn’t look great, as the display window was sized for an iPhone. Plus some of the best ways for businesses to use ChatGPT weren’t on offer.

chat gpt safari ios

With Incogni from Surfshark, you can reclaim your data today!

Now, you’ll find that ChatGPT not only looks slick on the iPad, but is fully optimized for iPadOS, meaning you can use its full screen powers as they were intended. This includes the iPad’s split-screen mode, which has emerged as such a valuable productivity and collaboration tool.

Coupled with the arrival of drag and drop, it’s easy to see how useful ChatGPT could be on the iPad, with the potential to ask the AI bot for information in one window, then drag the answer to share with your co-workers in a Slack or Teams channel.

Read our full iPad buyers’ guide here: Which iPad Should I Buy?

Siri and Shortcuts Integration

The other headline additions to the ChatGPT app are support for Siri and Shortcuts. At its most basic level, this means you can now ask Siri to open the AI tool for you, just like you can with all your other favorite apps.

However, the real power here lies in the new possibilities for automating processes between ChatGPT and other apps.

While you can’t tell Siri to draw on ChatGPT’s AI expertise when answering questions – yet – you can program custom prompts that automate what the bot does with the info you ask it for. By using Shortcuts, you can now tell ChatGPT to automatically share or save the responses it generates to other apps – Notes or Docs, for example.

This means power users of ChatGPT won’t have to manually trawl through their request history to find that one key fact they need to bring to the meeting, it’ll be neatly filed away somewhere instead.

ChatGPT Release for Android Promised Soon

If there’s one thing still missing from ChatGPT’s push on to mobile devices, it’s that the AI chatbot is currently only ready to party with Apple devices.

OpenAI has given Android users the slightly inevitable “coming soon” promise, but for now those running Google’s mobile operating must use ChatGPT as a web app. It’s still plenty powerful, just potentially not as convenient or slick.

OpenAI released the first version of its ChatGPT for iOS app in early May , following close on the heels of the ChatGPT Premium release in February. Here’s to hoping the releases keep on coming and Android users get their wish later this summer.

How to use ChatGPT on Mac

Andrew Orr's Avatar

ChatGPT can live on a Mac

chat gpt safari ios

OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November, built on the company's GPT-3 machine learning models. Companies such as Microsoft have integrated it while others — including Google — fear it .

It has various applications to answer questions and generate text, and a new app has appeared that brings it to the Mac menu bar.

Created by Jordi Bruin, MacGPT is a macOS app available for free, though people can add their own price to help support the developer.

Once a user logs in with their OpenAI credentials, they can click the menu bar icon to start a conversation. It's also possible to assign it a keyboard shortcut to activate MacGPT without needing a mouse or trackpad.

How to use ChatGPT on Mac with MacGPT

MacGPT is available to run on macOS versions of Monterey and Ventura.

  • Visit Bruin's webpage on Gumroad .
  • Enter 0 in the price box to download it for free — but we recommend throwing Bruin a few bucks.
  • Click " I want this! " and the 3.1MB download will start immediately.
  • Double-click on the zip file in your Downloads folder, then drag the app to the Applications folder .

A Web tab inside the app allows you to log in with OpenAI credentials. Visit the OpenAI website to sign up for a free account. Under the Native tab, accessing ChatGPT via API credentials found in your OpenAI account user settings is possible.

How to use ChatGPT on Mac - Examples of questions and prompts

The MacGPT app notes that this provides faster responses and a more fluid experience. After logging in, the app shows prompts straight from OpenAI.

These prompts remind users that it's currently a research preview and that some of the information generated might be incorrect, misleading, offensive, or biased.

ChatGPT offers various example prompts with which to get started. For example, type "Explain quantum computing in simple terms" or "Got any creative ideas for a 10-year-old's birthday?"

Once a question or statement is answered, ChatGPT will generate a response. Depending on the query, some results can be longer than others. If it's taking a while, there is a button to stop it from running.

It wasn't that simple

At the bottom of the answer are buttons to like or dislike a response. OpenAI added that option as a way for people to give feedback on ChatGPT's reponses in case it "hallucinates," which means it can provide an answer that is false or not supported by its training data.

Additionally, MacGPT and the ChatGPT website save conversations in a history so users can revisit them. It's also possible to access ChatGPT via OpenAI's website , and it's functionally identical to MacGPT without unique features.

Troubleshooting, how to use the latest gpt 4 & dall-e 3 free on iphone & ipad with copilot.

How to use GPT4 and DALL-E 3 for free with Copilot on iPhone and iPad

GPT 4 is an extremely advanced large language model with immense AI capabilities, and DALL-E 3 is a wildly impressive AI image generator that creates pictures from text descriptions. Both of these tools are incredibly powerful and impressive, and while you can access them for a fee through the parent company who developed the models, OpenAI, it turns out that you can get free use of GPT 4 and DALL-E 3 image generation on iPhone or iPad with the help of the free Copilot app, from Microsoft.

Whether you’re relatively new to AI, or just curious, or maybe you’re specifically looking for a way to use GPT 4 for free, or DALL-E 3 for free, read along and you’ll be dialed in shortly with the help of Copilot on iPhone or iPad.

How to Use GPT-4 & DALL-E 3 for Free on iPhone & iPad with Copilot

  • Get Microsoft Copilot free from the App Store
  • Open Copilot on your iPhone or iPad
  • Skip the promo or trial for Copilot Pro by selecting “Close”
  • Sign-in to your Microsoft account (Hotmail, Outlook, etc) – technically you can skip logging in but you will have more features and less restrictions if you do login to a Microsoft account
  • Tap the blue chat button and then type in your question or query for GPT, or describe an image you want to create with DALL-E, for examples:
  • “Give me three fun projects to work on with tin foil and glue sticks”
  • “Paint me a beautiful serene scene of a tropical beach with palm trees, with a napping cat in the sandy foreground”
  • “How long can cooked chicken stay in the refrigerator before it goes bad?”
  • “Draw me a picture of a happy elephant-human hybrid dancing in a bed of flowers”
  • “What are ten new hobbies I could take on in my own home? I have only 30 minutes a day, and I want them to be free or low cost”
  • “Explain why Earth was hotter during the thermal maximum period, despite no burning of fossil fuels”
  • “Draw me a picture of a very futuristic transportation vehicle”
  • “What are the most important ethical considerations regarding AI?”
  • “How do I know you are accurate? Can you be trusted? What if I told you to lie, would you?”

How to use GPT4 and DALL-E 3 for free with Copilot on iPhone and iPad

  • Remember, you can refine your queries based on the response from GPT or DALL-E too, for example:
  • “OK I am out of glue sticks, I only have tin foil, what else can I do?”
  • “Replace the napping cat with a Tuna Fish playing a saxophone”
  • “Ok but what if I freeze the chicken, how long would it last?”
  • “Make that picture less creepy, and more cartoony”
  • “OK give me more hobbies, but with only 10 spare minutes a day, and no budget”
  • “Do we know for sure the dinosaurs did not drive cars? Couldn’t the car rust away? What if they built the cars from plants and they decomposed?”
  • “Make it even more futuristic, like something 100,000 years in the future, and put it in space”
  • Enjoy ChatGPT 4 and DALL-E 3 both entirely for free

Copilot in this case is obviously on iPhone and iPad, but if you have a desktop computer, you can also access and use GPT 4 through Microsoft Edge , which also includes DALL-E 3 functionality too. And even the Bing search engine offers AI generated art capabilities for free too. These are all possible because Microsoft is an investor in OpenAI, and thus has access to the latest versions of GPT and DALL-E, offering them to users of Microsoft apps and services.

If you’re completely unfamiliar with GPT and want to learn a bit more, check out this guide to getting started using ChatGPT , AI functionality and access is rapidly evolving, but it’s still relevant!

Do you use Copilot? What do you think of these AI tools? Share your feedback and thoughts in the comments.
