My hunt was absolutely top notch.
The outfitter is a fantastic man and incredibly hard working and knowledgeable, there is no doubt he will do everything within his power to make peoples hunts successful and enjoyable. I plan to do it again with him next year for sure.
Our hunt was excellent.
We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

What an amazing experience!
The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.

Florida Alligator Hunting Guides
The Alligator Hunt
The great thing about alligator hunting is the diversity. In Florida, you can hunt day or night with a variety of weapons. If you chose to use a rifle, crossbow, harpoon or archery, these prehistoric monsters always make it a challenge! Whether you hunt day or night and regardless of your weapon choice, you will enjoy an adventure of a lifetime!

Florida Alligator Hunting Options
Multi-Night Alligator Hunts (Aug. 15- Nov. 1)
These fully guided wild alligator hunts can only be done at night from boats using harpoons, crossbows, spear guns, and fishing poles. This by far, is the most exciting action packed way to hunt wild Florida alligators. Most people love the boat ride just as much as the hunt. If you like action packed hunting all night with never a dull moment, this is the hunt for you. If you are the laid back type of hunter, ask about our day hunts. Whatever you wish, we can help you check gator hunting off your bucket list!
Alligator Hunting at Night
Although night hunts for Alligators in Florida can be more challenging than a day hunt - adrenaline levels do increase. Spotlights are used to scan lakes and swamps for giant gators and the lack of light creates an eerie excitement to the gator hunt. There is something about the dark waters and what lurks beneath that make this hunt exciting and a little unnerving at the same time. Weapon selection is up to the hunter. We will offer some suggestions and additional details about the hunt before you select a weapon. Night gator hunts normally produce larger gators. Night hunts offer the added benefit of a reprieve from the Florida daytime heat!

Alligator Hunting Season in Florida
August 15 - November 1st (private land alligator tags available throughout the year)
Private land One Day Guided Alligator Hunts / Night Alligator Hunts
The single day alligator hunts are a little more laid back than the multi-night boat hunts. The alligator hunts in Florida are primarily done during the day in lakes or ponds. A crossbow, regular bow, gun, fishing pole, or baited hook is the primary method of harvesting gators on this type of hunt.
If you are a first time alligator hunter a day hunt may be a good option. The thrill of seeing alligators in the light of day is something all first time hunters should experience. Day hunts are a little less intense as well. You will scan the Florida swamps by boat and when a gator is spotted we will attempt to snag it – that’s when the fight begins. Once the gator is snagged you will have the opportunity to harvest it with your weapon of choice. Rifle hunts allow for longer shots, 25 to 30 yards, and archery, spear or other methods require getting a little closer.
Rifle Hunts
God's Country rifle gator hunts are only available on private land day hunts. This is a great option as rifles allow the hunter the opportunity for longer kill shots. Many hunters will choose to bring multiple weapons on the hunt, the way a hunt unfolds may dictate which weapon is used in the kill shot on the alligator. When you contact us about planning your hunt we will answer questions and give advice to help you choose the best weapon options to make your Florida gator hunt exciting and successful!
Bow Hunting Alligators
As with any hunt, an archery hunt is much more challenging for Florida alligators than some of the other weapon options. Bow hunters will need to be experienced to be successful with this hunt. Shot distances are usually pretty short with archery hunts but a clean shot is necessary whether it’s a night or day alligator hunt. A 60 lb. draw is sufficient and you will need a fishing rig attachment. We recommend practicing precise short shots prior to your hunt.
Email, text or Call for pricing and options
All hunts include transporting your gator to our local taxidermy (If you intend to use your own taxidermy we need to make arrangements before the hunt)
Taxidermy is available. Additional fees apply. Additional meat may be purchased also.
Alligator trapping agent license is required and can be bought at stores or online for $51.50. Purchase here
American Alligator Facts
Florida Alligator Size Although male alligators in Florida can become quite large, female alligators rarely exceed 10 feet in length. The Florida state record for a gator is a 14 foot 3-1/2 inch male alligator from Lake Washington and the Florida weight record for an alligator is a 1,043 pounds. Our alligator hunts will probably not produce trophy gators of this size, but you never know!
Gator EYE-SHINE The most exciting gator hunts we offer are night hunts, which is partially due to what is known as alligator eye-shine. The distinctive eye-shine of an alligator is caused by a layer of cells called the tapetum lucidum. The layer is situated behind the photoreceptor cells in the retina and reflects light back, which increases the amount of light the alligator eye can detect. This dramatically improves an alligator's vision in low light conditions, which is why gators are more active at night. There’s nothing like spotting the ghostly eye-shine from a gator in the moonlight – that’s when the hunt begins!
THERMOREGULATION Alligators are cold blooded and they need external sources, heat & cold, to regulate their body temperature. Florida alligators may maintain their body temperature by moving to warm or cool water areas or bask in the sun on a clear day. In Florida, Alligators become more active at times when temps are 82° to 92°F. Florida alligators often stop eating when temperatures drop below 70° F and they become somewhat sluggish when temps drop below 55° F. During the winter months in Florida, alligators are mostly dormant and can be found in dens or “alligator holes” but they will emerge at times to bask in the sun.

In the state of Florida guns are not allowed to use a firearm at anypoint when killing a gator, and any bait used to attract a gator has to be attached to the boat in the state of Florida so there are no lines set over night. That's where having a profesional guide like Zac comes in handy: Knowledge of the water and the right equipment for the job are essential! He's been doing it for well over 10 years and is the best of the best. Depending on what you want to do Captain Zac either likes to sight cast on them with treble hooks or bait them from afar with beef lung or floating chickens at the end of a rod and reel. Baiting them on rod and reel is especially fun since you get to see the gator wallop your bait! This method is especially productive later in the season when the gators have grown wise to the boats in the area and all too often go under when you get within 300yds. After the gator has crushed and swallowed that beef lung or chicken, you and captain Zac will stalk up on him and throw an initial hook into him to act as an indicator. Applying to much pressure on that first hook will all too often break him off. Once the indicator is secured you and Captain Zac will throw a couple more treble hooks into him and fight him up to the boat. Once he is boat side Captain Zac will use his Bang Stick to dispatch the beast and haul him aboard to head back to the dock! Captain Zac has a handful of tags for these trips, but he highly reccomends his clients bring their own Alligator tag for these trips as well. **If you have you're own tag he will cut out the price you paid for your tag and give you a discounted rate!** Everything else is provided on board like rods, reels, baits, Bang Sticks, ropes, and a cooler for your beverages and snacks. *This trip includes one 9'-9'11" Gator!* Alligator hunting in Florida is not for the timid or faint of heart! Here we provide you with a safe, fun, and exciting alligator hunt year-round. We offer both private and public land alligator hunts. On our private land hunts, we either hunt nuisance gators that are a threat to people or animals on close or surrounding ranches or in our private hunting preserve - which guarantees a harvest. Our private land hunts are “spot and stalk” on a pond or canal. If we find a gator laying on a bank, we will try to sneak up as closely as possible to get a brain kill shot. The size of a gator’s brain is about the size of a golf ball. If we do not see one on a bank but in one of the ponds or canals, then it becomes alligator fishing. At that time the hunter will try to snag the gator and fight it on rod and reel until it tires out and surfaces. At that time, the hunter will take the shot at the gator on the surface. You can use rifle, handgun, bang stick or bow to harvest your alligator. With our public land hunts, the hunter is required to either apply and draw a tag via a state lottery system or purchase a state public land tag from one of our guides when available and in season. These hunts take place on either an air boat or a flats boat with a seasoned gator hunting guide. If you are successful and harvest your gator then we will be able to arrange for the processing of your meat and taxidermy service by a local licensed processor/taxidermist if desired. Read More

*This trip is for up to 4 people, but its really priced per 9' gator. For example, if 1 person wants to shoot 3 gators then you need to select the 3 person option or if 2 people want to shoot 4 total gators then select 4 people.* Private land alligator hunts are conducted year round. On this alligator hunt we target the specific size gator that the client is looking for. Expect to glass many alligators in ponds and reservoirs from a distance. Once the right size gator is spotted, a stalk is then started. Don’t let alligators fool you, they have excellent sense of smell, hearing, eyesight, and can also feel vibrations. Getting within comfortable shooting range can be a challenge since the target is a little bigger then a quarter. Read More

**Bring your own tag gator hunt** Embark on an adrenaline-fueled Gator Hunt like no other in Crystal River, FL! Led by the fearless Captain Leon, a true expert in alligator hunts, get ready to experience the thrill of a lifetime from August 15th through November 1. Sumnter County is the prime location for this unforgettable adventure, boasting a remarkable 90% success rate. Captain Leon's exceptional skills and knowledge will ensure you have the best chance of a successful hunt, making this a truly rewarding experience. The main game plan is to sneak up on these incredible creatures, throwing a treble hook in their back, and skillfully bringing them to the boat before dispatching them with precision. It's a thrilling challenge that only the most skilled hunters can conquer. But that's not all—Captain Leon's wild technique for handling sketchy alligators is a sight to behold! Instead of creeping up, he'll rig up a beef lung on a rod, open the bail, and haul ass at the gator, going max speed. He plans so that his lower unit is out of the water, and he'll watch the gator go down, dropping the bait on him as he flies past. Most of the time, the gator pops right back up where he was, finds the beef lungs, and chomps. If the gator pops up a ways off, i.e., doesn't see the lung, he tugs on the line to make a splash in the water, and it's almost always game over. Whether you're a seasoned hunter looking for the ultimate challenge or a thrill-seeker eager to experience the heart-pounding rush of a Gator Hunt, Captain Leon has you covered. Spaces are limited, and the remaining tags are disappearing fast, so secure your spot now for an adrenaline-pumping expedition like no other. Prepare for an exhilarating hunt, create memories to last a lifetime, and embrace the untamed beauty of Crystal River's Gator Country! Read More

Where to hunt alligator.
Literally millions of alligators dwell in the freshwater coastal rivers, lakes and marshes of the South-Eastern USA. The American alligator hunting heaven is, without a doubt, Florida; however, alligator hunting is also possible in Texas, Louisiana, North and South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. In fact, the great river gave the alligator its scientific name: Alligator mississippiensis. Another species of alligator exists in South-East Asia, but it is critically endangered.
Price distribution
Alligator hunting is usually priced on a daily rate + trophy fee basis. The daily rate starts from $500, and typically includes the use of the vehicles and gear necessary for alligator hunting (bows and crossbows, harpoons, bangsticks, swamp buggies and air boats, etc.). The trophy fee depends on the size of the ‘gator. It may vary greatly from outfitter to outfitter, but a rough rule of thumb is $500 for the reptile 7 feet or smaller, and $500 for each foot over that.

Alligators and crocodiles are one of the oldest creatures on this planet - they evolved as far back as 60 million years ago, and the fossils of their immediate ancestors date back to 220,000,000 b.c. These reptiles are wonderfully adapted to their environment, and perform an essential ecological function. Read more about their evolutionary history, the risk they pose for people in Africa, and how to hunt them in our post about the Nile Crocodile.
When to hunt Alligator?
Alligator hunting seasons typically start in mid-August to early September and end by November. In some states, like Florida, alligator hunting on private land is legal year round. But here weather may play its part. Alligators, being cold-blooded, are most active when the temperatures are in the 80 to 90 Fahrenheit (28-33 C) range. They become less active when temperatures drop, and will become dormant when it’s colder than 55 F (13 C).

Alligator hunting in the USA is, in most cases, looks more like fishing. Most states require the hunter to capture the alligator before killing the reptile. This is done with the help of harpunes. Often, the hunter starts with shooting a light harpoon with a string from a bow or crossbow, and then, having fought the reptile within spear throwing range, use a heavier hand-thrown harpoon with a stronger line. Hunters might fight the strong and actively resisting reptile for hours before they bring it near their boat. Then the alligator is dispatched with a firearm, usually a handgun or a bangstick (a type of single-shot firearm that is secured to a rod and discharges point-blank from contact with the target). In some areas on private land African style hunting by stalking or baiting alligators and shooting them with rifles is legal.

Why hunt Alligator?
Alligators stir a lot of emotions in humans, mostly negative: reptiles are not creatures we find easy to associate with. The feeling is not mutual: the reptile brain has not developed the parts that are responsible for complex emotions, and the alligators are quite literally cold-blooded killing machines. While alligators are far less dangerous for humans than African crocodiles, fatal attacks on people happen almost every year. Hunting helps maintain fear of humans, and thus reduces the likelihood of human-alligator conflicts. In the past they have been, and in limited numbers still are, hunted for their valuable skin, and alligator meat forms an important part in the Southern cuisine. Harvesting an alligator is a challenging and exciting task, not without an element of danger, and it’s not surprising that many people want to experience it.
