Cosmic Gate is a German progressive-trance-producing duo from Krefeld, Germany. Active since 1999, Cosmic Gate consists of Claus Terhoeven and Stefan Bossems.
The pair met in Cologne, Germany and after hitting it off they decided to try their hand at making music together. Realising that their combined talents meant musical gold, the pair became Cosmic Gate and began producing fresh tracks and remixing existing music.
Cosmic Gate’s initial successes were in their native Germany where tracks "The Drums", "Mental Atmosphere" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" were all top 100 tracks. The duo quickly began winning increasing numbers of fans and the release of their fourth single, “Exploration of Space” went to number 12 in Germany and entered the UK singles chart at number 29.
Picking up significant buzz from these initial tracks, Cosmic Gate then went on to release “Fire Wire” in 2001. The track stormed the UK singles chart and peaked at number nine.
Cosmic Gate has released six albums, “Rhythm & Drums”, “No More Sleep”, “Earth Mover”, “Sign of the Times”, “Wake Your Mind” and “Start to Feel” between 2001 and 2014, with their initial two albums being their most successful.
The duo is well known throughout Europe and they have placed in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ’s feature multiple times. Fans love them for their remixes as much as their original content and Cosmic Gate is well known for its remixes of artists such as Tiësto, Deadmau5 and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

Most notably known for hits such as FireWire and Exploration Of Space, Cosmic Gate are a fantastic dance duo. I've been listening to them since Rythm & Drums in 2001, I'm a massive fan and see them every chance I get. Every show I have been too I've been blown away and get more and more excited. These guys are premium DJs in today's day and age and keep it coming. Their latest album, Start to Feel, is simply fantastic as well with songs Yai, Falling Back and Coming Home, being a few of the standouts. These guys don't stop for anything and certainly know how to make a statement amongst today's plethora of DJ's.
Most EDM nowadays is all about the drop and high energy beats with crazy syncopation that I don't care for. The true masters of trance are Cosmic Gate and they keep it coming! Since I first saw them live they've mixed up the set to feature the latest and greatest in the DJ world as well as keeping their classics and throwing some of their newest material in. A solid diverse set list that any true fan, or newbie, will enjoy immensely. Cosmic Gate certainly get around and if you get the chance it's worth far more than the price of admission to a club or event to see these guys alone. Don't miss out!

Is there ever such thing as too many lasers? German trance duo Cosmic Gate certainly do not think so. The group comprising of Claus Terhoeven and Stefan Bossems have been working the circuit since the late 90s and this dedication to their music and show means they sit in an elevated category when it comes to live dance acts.
Although the music may not feature drops and overemphasised pop vocals as so much of the modern electronica does, there is no doubt that the pulsating, almost hypnotic beats of their trance will endeavour to have a crowd moving along with it all evening. The trippy visuals and sea of laser beams simply add to the overall psychedelic experience that the duo attempts to create. They mix with such proficiency that the entire show feels like they only play one spanning piece of dance music as the crowds struggle to differentiate favourites such as 'Fire Wire' and 'Exploration of Space'. The skill is the fact they do not need to have high points, as the whole show is of such a consistent high quality the crowd is constantly dancing and enjoying themselves anyway.
Cosmic Gate... If you see this personally please dont hate me. But, to be honest I was really disappointed last night. We left the show at 12:30. I found y'all on a state of trance a long time ago and had been looking foreword to this show for months. It was just not as good as I thought it would be. I honestly felt like you could tell that it was not good because you kept turning the volume down and no one was cheering. Maybe it was because the venue was ice cold. Usually that would not matter though if you were lost in the music. Sorry guys gotta give this one a thumbs down.
20 years and these two continue to kick A*#!!!!! I've always enjoyed their music but last night just enhanced that feeling. They were so tight...the transitions...choice of tracks...their attitudes...so professional...yet truly down to earth type guys (I got to meet them before the show)....These two (their music) have been in my library for years and will continue to add as they produce. Thanks Nic and Bossi for the music...and fun!!!
Thes Cosmic gate show was amazing! From the "warm-up" Estiva, we expected more and much more profound music than just dull bass. Another minus is that it started quite late and this day was the work day so many people were already exhausted at 12. The rest is great! Hopefully, Cosmic Gate will visit Stockholm once again!

Amazing!!!!!! Cosmic gate was so good. Everyone was pumped! The only thing that sucked was some guy threw a cup of liquid at them and it went all over their equipment which could have ruined their equipment and the entire show. But all was good thankfully!!!! I cant wait to see them again in December!!!

Cosmic Gate presents North American Tour 2024
NIC & BOSSI PREMIERE THEIR FIRST POST-‘MOSAIIK’ MATERIAL AT ASOT NL, 24.02
March sees Grammy-nominated duo Cosmic Gate break out the North American road map, in readiness for a club-hopping, point-to-point, two-month-tour of the States and Canada.
It’ll see CG making stops in NA metropoles including New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago, Montreal, Washington , Vancouver and many others. Featuring a mix of open-to-closes and XL sets, you can start scooping up show tickets from today [06.03], accessed through this link.
The shows will be taking place just as Cosmic Gate begin unveiling their first new material, post the release of 2023’s perception-shaking ‘MOSAIIK – Chapter Two’ album. Having spent some winter months in the studio, the first single to come from those sessions will be ‘Brave’. On Feb 24, Nic and Bossi premiered the track during their ASOT’s mainstage appearance. The audience at Rotterdam’s Ahoy arena were the first to experience ‘Brave’, many noting the familiar voice lying behind its song.
With the single now primed for a mid-spring release, Cosmic Gate describe the track as “haunting and hypnotic” and said “we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to debut ‘Brave’ to the biggest possible live audience. And for that there’s nowhere better than ASOT! NL”. More details of the track, and its release date will follow through Cosmic Gate’s socials in March.

Grammy nomination: the final month of 2018 Nic&Bossi were nominated for their first Grammy award. Selected in the Best Remixer category, their work on Gabriel & Dresden and Sub Teal’s ‘Only Road’from a year earlier drew nomination praise from the academy. The remix was further described by DJ Mag as “masterful”, with “alchemic sequencing”, “shrewd use of context” and was “wily” in its “sound design”
C.G. Productions& Albums:In their homeland, Cosmic Gatehasmaintained a consistently high level of mainstreamsuccess, charting no fewer than 7 top 40 singles. Further afield ‘Fire Wire’signalled the pair’s arrival, becoming a pan-European chart smash and hitting the top ten in a number of countries.
Albums have, and continue to play a substantial part in their production career. Most recently that’s been evidenced by‘20 Years’, which was released in August of 2019. Significantly subtitled ’[Forward Ever Backward Never’], it was conceived as an album thatinnovatively took their body of work to new floors and audiences. Includingnew Cosmic Gate productions, it also incorporated 2.0 renovations of CG anthems. Further it featured reworks of tunes personally inspirational to CG, as well as new takes from other artists on classic Cosmic moments. Its first single releases brought a brace of Beatport hits with the MINT-playlisted ‘Come With Me’ and the “profound” (said DJ Mag) “9/10” ranked ‘Need To Be Loved’ both hitting the #1 position.
The album also gave rise to the 20 Years live tour, which to date has reached 30 cities globally.Of the tour’s LA stop, EDM.com said: “Los Angeles played host to one of their biggest shows on the tourwhere they performed at the legendary Hollywood Palladium. Their extended three-hour set included guest performances by JES, Eric Lumiere, and Emma Hewitt, who have lent their vocals to some of the duo's biggest tracks”. The Dallas Observer meanwhile hailed their Stereo Live, Houston show as a “cruise through two decades of varied, quality productions.
’20 Years’ was preceded by the two ‘Chapters’ of thelongplayer‘Materia’ - the release of which musically bookended the group’s 2017. It was the album mothership for a clutch of new Cosmic Gate singlesand releases. Among them were‘Fall Into You’,‘Edge Of Life’, ‘Noom’, the Beatport #1 ‘am2pm’, ‘AR’,‘Dynamic’ (“melody and grit in equal proportions” said DJ Mag’s 8/10 review) and others.Following their ‘Start To Feel’ long-player (more info below), the releasescored a MIXMAG Album of the Month plaudit, representing - said the magazine - an “impressive”, “roots-return” to their origin sound. Upon their release the ‘Materias’were met with comparable sales success, hitting iTunes’ top 10s in 9 countries and reaching the #2 spot in both the United States and Canada.
The period 2015 - 2016 saw Cosmic Gate continue to embrace the collaboration medium through a number of high-profiles co-production projects. Among them was ‘Embargo’, which was the result of studio time shared with Armin van Buuren. The track was subsequently featured on the latter’s 2015 album, ‘Embrace’. A year later Nic&Bossi teamed up with Ferry Corsten to record ‘Event Horizon’. Garnering substantial praise from fans, DJs and press alike, it topped Beatport’s Trance chart in October of 2016.
Released in the summer of 2014, Cosmic Gate used their sixth album ‘Start To Feel’ to inspire fans to experience electronic music in a “deeper, wider, more complete way”. It’s first single - the Eric Lumiere-sung ‘Falling Back’ – was described as “9.5/10” scoring “anthem in a can” by the UK’s DJ Mag. Further singles including ‘So Get Up’, Yai (Here We Go Again’)and ‘Fair Game’ cemented its reputation. Upon release, the album hit the iTunes’ top 10 in the US, Canada, Germany and Russia. A MIXMAG 9/10 rated release, ‘Start To Feel’was hailed as “audio chemistry and production physics in their most quantum forms”. It also catalysedthe Start To Feel bus tour, which famously saw Nic&Bossi perform 13 shows in just 16 days, coast-to-coast across North America, playing to over 20,000 fans.
In 2011 the duo released ‘Wake Your Mind’.It produced ‘Be Your Sound’ - a single that MIXMAG suggested “finally unseats ‘Fire Wire’ as Cosmic Gate’s best-known-for track”. With its official video just off 16 million views on YouTube, it bagged anIDMA nomination in 2012, (with the JES-sung‘Flying Blind’ following suit a year later).
Cosmic Gate’s album movements began with ‘Rythm& Drums’ (in 2001), ‘No More Sleep’ which followed a year later and‘Earth Mover’ in ‘06. The latter was the album platform for the club hits ‘Analog Feel', ‘Should Have Known’ and the IDMA-nominated ‘I Feel Wonderful’. ‘Sign of the Times’ arrived 3 years later, bringing the vocal anthem ‘Body of Conflict’, a further IDMA-nod for‘Not Enough Time’ and spurred(a then near unheard of) 43-place leap up DJ Mag’s Top 100 chart. It also edged the pair towards a more open-plan electronic music style (later to fully manifest in ‘Wake Your Mind’ and ‘Start To Feel’).
Cosmic Gate’sWake Your Mind marque was subsequently spun off into a number of other areas. WYM Radio is a comprehensively formatted show, which featuresNic&Bossidiscussing and airing their most highly rated tracks of the week. It’ll also encompasses first-listen music premieres and tunes from the deeper side of the CG psyche. The show - which is broadcast on Sirius XM, DI.FM and many other stations - also features comprehensive info on up-and-coming gigs, Nic&Bossi’s Big Bang track of the week and a host of other features, latterly including the ThrowBack weekly classic and their Private Playlist tune. In January of 2019, the show passed its landmark 250th episode.
Since 2013, Wake Your Mind Records has been the label base for all of Cosmic Gate’s releases. It’s also served as a dais for Cosmic Gate to sign and release music from other artists. Of late, tracks from producers like Maor Levi Greenhaven DJs and Steve Brian, as well as Nic Chagall’s own solo material have featured, alongside co-productions with Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Super8 & Tab and others. Latterly, the Wake Your Mind Sessions compilations have also come to play a part in the WYM make-up, with the third in the series reaching release in March of 2018.
Other remixes:Over their production lifetime, Cosmic Gate’s remixeshave become almost as illustrious as their productions. In essence a blow-by-blow of A-list artists, Nic&Bossi have lent their studio know-how to releases byArmin van Buuren, Tiësto, Deadmau5, Paul van Dyk, Above &Beyond’sOceanLab project, Markus Schulz, John O’Callaghan, Gareth Emery and Ferry Corsten. In early 2010 Atlantic Records US approached them to remix James Horner’s ‘I See You’ – the main theme from the film Avatar. This run culminated in Nic&Bossi being nominated for Best Remixer at the 2010 IDMAs and not to forget their Grammy nominated remix for „Gabriel & Dresden - The Only Road“ in 2019 (see extra paragraph on page one)
