Produced in partnership with BBC Studios, Moon Eye Productions and LiveNation, attraction featuring narration from Sir David Attenborough opens in Australia 27th October.

BBC Studios, Moon Eye Productions and Live Nation Australia have announced the BBC Earth Experience – the jaw dropping new attraction that premiered in London earlier this year - will open exclusively in Australia in Melbourne on the 27 th of October. Tickets go on sale this Thursday 7 September at 1pm AEST.

The BBC Earth Experience, with bespoke narration from Sir David Attenborough, has been enjoyed by all age groups who have experienced the extraordinary diversity of our seven unique continents, on the most epic scale. The BBC Earth Experience feels like you have stepped into the natural world and lost yourself in boundless wonder, as you travel to far flung places. And the best bit? No passport required!

The BBC Studios Natural History Unit’s television series Seven Worlds, One Planet , is projected on multiple multi-angle screens using the very latest digital screen technology. Visitors will take a majestic 360-degree audio visual journey as they marvel and explore iconic landscapes and connect with mesmerising animals on an epic adventure bringing environments to life. From fireflies putting on a spectacular light show in North America, to snub nosed monkeys huddling together to stay warm in Asia, and cassowary fathers protecting their tiny chicks in Australia, visitors will get to experience our seven continents in all their glory, like never before.

Spanning across over 1608m 2 of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the BBC Earth Experience promises to be Melbourne’s most joyful and rousing tourist attraction of recent times.

Intrepid Travel, a Melbourne-founded and B-Corp certified small group adventure company, will be the headline sponsor of the event.

Fiona Lang, General Manager, BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand said: “BBC Studios is the biggest global producer of natural history programming with ground-breaking shows that are enjoyed by a billion people around the world. The response to the BBC Earth Experience in the UK has been amazing, audiences have been loving seeing this incredible content being showcased and elevated in this way.  Seven Worlds, One Planet was a hit when it was screened in Australia on Channel Nine and and on our own BBC Earth channel on Foxtel and Fetch, and I’m thrilled to partner with Moon Eye Productions and Live Nation to bring this experience to Australia for people to enjoy.”

Luke Hede, Vice President – Touring, Live Nation Australia said: “This collaboration with Visit Victoria, BBC Studios and Moon Eye Productions will deliver a spectacular and educational experience unlike any other. Sir David Attenborough is a global treasure, and the BBC Earth Experience marries his message about the challenges nature faces in today’s world alongside the world’s most incredible footage. Victorians and visitors to the state are in for a real treat.”

Victoria’s Minister for Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events and Minister for Creative Industries, the Hon. Steve Dimopoulos said: “Melbourne is the only city in Australia that will host the incredible BBC Earth Experience, which is another demonstration of why we are the country’s major events capital. We’re backing our major events sector to continue growing because they create jobs, attract more visitors and support local businesses right across our state.”

MCEC Chief Executive, Natalie O’Brien AM said: “As Australia’s leading sustainable convention and exhibition centre, MCEC is perfectly poised to host the BBC Earth Experience. We’re incredibly proud to partner Live Nation to bring this world-leading experience to Melbourne – the first time the experience has been shown outside of London.”

Seven Worlds, One Planet was the BBC’s most-watched factual tv show of the year when it premiered in the UK and the most popular BBC natural history series in eight years to be screened in Australia.  The series took viewers on a journey that not only celebrated the beauty of life on each of the seven continents, but also highlighted the many challenges faced by nature in a modern world. Over 1,500 people worked on the award-winning series, with 92 shoots across 41 countries, revealing an unseen wilderness of Earth's diverse continents.

‘Stunning. Exhilarating. The footage is, naturally, stunning with pin-sharp sound design.’

Time Out, London

‘I did feel a lump in my throat as we went through the entrance where the dulcet tones of Attenborough and his narration echo around a huge room full of screens onto which nature’s finest is projected in giant glory’

‘We were impressed with how much new knowledge we gained during the experience. Visiting all seven continents of the world is no easy feat, but the BBC Earth Experience manages to do it in one hour!'

Arts & entertainment, design & style, travel & leisure, search concrete playground, bbc earth is bringing a spectacular immersive experience with narration by david attenborough to australia.

Melbourne will become only the second city in the world to host the 360-degree walk-through audiovisual event, which draws upon footage from 'Seven Worlds, One Planet'.

BBC Earth Is Bringing a Spectacular Immersive Experience with Narration by David Attenborough to Australia

Watching a Sir David Attenborough documentary means being left with two strong feelings: wanting to see the world exactly the way that the iconic broadcaster does, and wishing to always hear his narration as you walk across the planet. Consider the BBC Earth Experience the closest thing to making both happen. It takes footage from Attenborough's Seven Worlds, One Planet series, turns it into a 360-degree walk-through audiovisual event, and has the natural historian and living treasure echo while you wander.

The BBC Earth Experience debuted in London in March 2023, which is excellent news if a UK holiday has been on your agenda. Here's a better development: this spring, it's heading Down Under. Melbourne will become only the second city in the world to host this spectacular sight, kicking off on Friday, October 27 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in what'll be an Australian-exclusive season.

The experience uses cutting-edge digital-projection technology to surround attendees in visuals from the earth's seven continents, with everything from fireflies in North America to cassowary fathers and their chicks in Australia on display. In London, the attraction sprawls across more than 1600 square metres, featuring spaces dedicated to the planet seen at microscopic scale, via drone footage and on the ocean floor, too, as part of a self-guided tour that also heroes starfish, elephant seals, snub-nosed monkeys, hamsters and more.

If you've already watched Seven Worlds, One Planet , you won't just be greeted by material you've already seen, but larger. The scale of the event's imagery is hefty — epic, even — but BBC Earth Experience also includes extended scenes from the show, plus bespoke narration by Attenborough.

The mission is truly to make the audience feel like they've stepped right into the footage, all thanks to multi-angle screens. And, it's designed to cater to existing Seven Worlds, One Planet  fans and newcomers alike.

In Melbourne, offering up an educational experience for young patrons is also a big aim. There'll be a classroom space onsite, plus resources curated for teachers.

Given how long that Attenborough has been making nature documentaries, including with the BBC Studios Natural History Unit , here's hoping that more of his work gets this kind of experience-focused treatment. Bringing Prehistoric Planet and its sequel series to life? Add that to the wish list.

"Melbourne is the only city in Australia that will host the incredible BBC Earth Experience , which will attract thousands of visitors to enjoy everything on offer in our city while supporting jobs across the tourism and events sector," said Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos, announcing the event's stint Down Under.

"This collaboration with Visit Victoria, BBC Studios and Moon Eye Productions will deliver a spectacular and educational experience unlike any other," added Live Nation Australia Vice President of Touring Luke Hede.

"Sir David Attenborough is a global treasure, and the BBC Earth Experience marries his message about the challenges nature faces in today's world alongside the world's most incredible footage. Victorians and visitors to the state are in for a real treat."

This Virtual Tour of the Great Barrier Reef With David Attenborough Is the Escape We Need

This Virtual Tour of the Great Barrier Reef With David Attenborough Is the Escape We Need

Maybe you can’t dive the Great Barrier Reef right now, but you can explore it on an interactive tour with David Attenborough.

Courtesy of Tourism and Events Queensland

The recent popularity of virtual tours of national parks and museums is proof that you just can’t keep travelers from being curious about the world, even when they are stuck at home in the middle of a pandemic.

One virtual experience making the rounds these days is something that even the most ardent ocean lover wouldn’t dream possible: a tour of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef with the legendary natural historian and narrator Sir David Attenborough.

The Great Barrier Reef is 1,429 miles long and home to 1,500 species of fish, 600 coral species, and 30 different whale and dolphin species. On David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef: An Interactive Journey , which launched in 2015, visitors “board” the Alucia research expedition vessel to see, hear, and learn about the natural wonder in a five-chapter, multimedia saga.

Attenborough, who first visited the Great Barrier Reef more than 60 years ago, gives an introduction and voices different videos throughout the journey.

From a main map view, which functions as a command center, you can track the distance and time you’ve been “sailing” through the chapters and see where you are on the reef.

Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of the reef: its inhabitants, threats, and resilience, as well as research efforts aimed at saving the reef and ways to get involved. Scrolling through each chapter, you’ll find vibrant photographs, written blurbs, timelapses, videos, 360-degree VR views, and other interactive elements.

Watch a simulation of the color signals that mantis shrimp see, which are invisible to the human eye. Click around in a virtual ocean floor to hear the sounds clownfish use to move through their habitat. And see what it’s like to dive with minke whales.

The experience stresses the importance of conservation. You’ll also get a 360-degree virtual reality view of a 2014 coral bleaching event, control nitrate runoffs from land-based farms to see their effect on the reef, and watch the square kilometers tick up on the real-time tracker showing how much of the reef has been destroyed since the site launched in 2015 and since you visited the page moments before.

There are hours of content in the interactive journey, but once you’ve explored it all, you might find yourself wanting to continue listening to Attenborough’s calm, relaxing voice. The Great Barrier Reef virtual tour was actually created as part of a four-episode Great Barrier Reef series , which was produced by the BBC and first aired in 2015. It is available on streaming platforms, including Amazon and Hulu with a subscription to Smithsonian Channel Plus. And, of course, there’s always Our Planet , an Attenborough classic, available on Netflix.

David Attenborough's First Life VR and David Attenborough's Great Barrier Reef Dive VR debut in Australia through Samsung Gear VR.

THURSDAY 24 MARCH 2016, SYDNEY: The Australian Museum (AM) will be the first venue outside of the UK to host David Attenborough’s First Life VR and David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef Dive VR – fully immersive experiences created by pioneering content studio Alchemy VR. These screenings will employ cutting-edge technology from Samsung to put you side-by-side with the world-famous naturalist.

David Attenborough’s First Life VR and David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef Dive VR , presented at the Australian Museum in partnership with Samsung, are the first two nature documentaries made exclusively for VR by Alchemy. The experiences premiere from 8 April, and visitors to the museum will be able to watch one or both with ticket prices starting from $15.

Both experiences represent the latest in innovative entertainment, having come direct to the AM in Sydney after the premiere, sell-out season at London’s Natural History Museum.

Equipped with the Samsung Gear VR headset and Galaxy S6 smartphones, visitors will be able to travel through time and deep in the ocean, experiencing the natural world in brilliant, 360-degree cinematic life.

“Virtual reality is a powerful new way of transporting us to the most extraordinary places on our planet, and David Attenborough is the perfect guide,” Kim McKay AO, CEO of the Australian Museum , said.

“ David Attenborough’s Virtual Reality Experiences puts the AM at the forefront of museum innovation and revolutionises the way people experience museums.”

Anthony Geffen, CEO of Atlantic Productions and Alchemy VR added, “These experiences are truly trailblazing, and we are proud to be bringing them to Australian audiences in partnership with the Australian Museum. It’s an incredible opportunity to use technology to excite and educate people about the natural world.”

The VR experience, for visitors aged 13+, is a major coup for the AM, which has a long association with David Attenborough. Last year, Attenborough visited the AM’s Lizard Island Research Station 270km north of Cairns as part of filming for David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef documentary.

“In 2016, more Australians will experience virtual reality through the Samsung Gear VR than ever before,” said Philip Newton, Corporate Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung Electronics Australia.

“VR is opening new frontiers for how Australians create, consume and interact with content – and what better way to be fully-immersed in our innovative technology than through these experiences.”

David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef Dive VR uses real-world footage and a host of pioneering technologies to shed new light on this magnificent habitat. Visitors will take a 360-degree, virtual reality tour deep beneath the waves, with Attenborough as a personal guide through the vibrant corals, darting fish and deadly sharks in the great natural wonder of the world. In a state-of-the-art submersible, Attenborough guides us through a wonderland, which has over 3000 reef systems and forms one of the most important natural resources on Earth. It is an extraordinary opportunity to come face to face with the incredible diversity and abundance of the Great Barrier Reef, and see how researchers are using historic corals, predicting how the reef will react to environmental changes.

In David Attenborough’s First Life VR , visitors travel back 540 million years as Attenborough reveals the dawn of life on Earth and introduces you to its earliest inhabitants, exploring ancient oceans and interacting with extinct sea creatures. Long-extinct animals such as the whimsically built Opabinia , the fearsome looking Anomalocaris and the spiny, worm-like Hallucigenia will be brought vividly alive in a fully immersive CG VR experience.

Tickets on sale 30 March 2016 via Ticketek.

Seven Worlds – One Planet

The first episode of Sir David Attenborough’s new series commenced in the heart of the world’s longest surviving rainforest.   Here, Big Bertha, Grand Dame of Cassowaries, reigns supreme.   She is almost 2-metres in height when she pumps herself up to her full height to impress or to defend her domain.

The vision of stately old-growth rainforest of an extremely rare type of complex mesophyll forest with fan palms ( Licuala ramsayi)  brings unique footage that is displayed on the screen at the beginning of the series.   Such impressive grandeur is rarely seen by the public gaze.

It has long been my wish to guide David Attenborough into the Fan Palm Cathedral as an appropriate “thank you” from four generations of my family who have enjoyed and learned from his marvellous filming and presentation of Nature on television and screen.   His photographers have experienced the wonder in filming for an earlier documentary on Strangler figs.

Unlike Mahomed, who had to go to the mountain, Sir David Attenborough has had the rainforest delivered to him by The Natural History Unit Directors and Cameramen, Daniel Hunter and Ed Saltau.   It is now in the public domain, a part of the first episode, Australia; Seven Worlds, One Planet and a reminder that global treasures must be conserved and protected if they are to survive.

Big Bertha has starred in a number of documentaries on the world Stage.   In National Geographic ‘s “Australia’s Big Bird” a multi-page feature article managed to film big Bertha and her partner Crinkle Cut, in a pre-mating bath in Cooper Creek.   Photo journalist, Christian Zeigler was awarded Photo Journalist of the Year for Nature with an amazing shot of a cassowary feeding on blue quandongs.   Christian’s primary focus was on cassowaries, but he did note that “feral pigs are a problem.”

David Attenborough’s, “Seven Worlds, One Planet, Australia” demonstrates the irreplaceable role of cassowaries as a keystone species in the dispersal of seeds throughout the rainforest. The documentary doesn’t pull any punches.   Aided by camera traps, Dan and Ed were able to show extensive damage and the enormity of non-native competition of feral pigs that have become the greatest threat to the rainforest and to the endangered southern cassowary:    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07v1xhh

We are proud to announce that Daintree Rainforest Pty Ltd has published a book, “A Stray Liana” written by Neil Hewett that expands on the natural values of the Daintree Rainforest through the eyes of the custodial landholder, with more than 200 full page coloured photographs and detailed information.   It is the first report of World Heritage listing of freehold land in Australia’s Wet Tropics and our contribution to its successful containment and conservation.       It can be purchased on line:   https://astrayliana.com.au/
