Delhi Safari

The five animals decide to go to Delhi and ask the parliament some very simple yet pertinent questions: Why has man become the most dangerous animal? • The residents of the national park welcome a bright sunny morning, birds singing away merrily, animals running around with joy, Sultan and his cub playing by the lakeside. The jungle has an air of joy and peace. A distant thunder breaks the silence and a closer look reveals the jungle being raided by man and machine destroying everything in its path. Sultan tries to fight a futile battle and ends up losing his life. The night has a very tense air as all the animals gather around with fear in their heart, discussing their fate of losing their habitat to human beings. Yuvi, Sultans cub, tries to reason with the elders, urging them to not give up their homes. Everyone is convinced that it is futile to fight humans, and the only option is to leave and move to a safer home. The hot headed militant monkey, Bajrangi, wants to declare a full scale war against the humans taking over their homes. But the anger management Guru, Bagga the bear, has a more civilized suggestion. He believes that all problems could be sorted out through peaceful discussions. So the best way to get back their homes is to have a dialog with the humans, win their hearts and their own homes. The only problem being that no one can speak the human language. Air India, the pigeon recommends Alex, the talking parrot who can come to their rescue. With hope in their hearts, Yuvi, Bajrangi, and Bagga decide to kidnap Alex from his luxurious golden cage. However, their hope turns to despair as the talking parrot Alex hates animals. Loves humans. And wants nothing to do with the problems of these barbaric animals especially, the primitive ape. Bajrangi. Also Alex is sure that such issues need to be addressed in the parliament at Delhi. Now starts a journey from Mumbai to Delhi. From hate to love. From enmity to friendship as a motley group of five animals travel across India with a message. A message that they discover not only plagues their homes, but the homes and lives of thousands of other animals on the way. The journey across the country becomes a journey where enemies become friends and a family comes together to fight for what rightfully belongs to them - A HOME.

Gruff, derivative, and occasionally unpleasant, Nikhil Advani's "Delhi Safari" rides one catchy song and one plucky parrot to become an engaging, mildly enjoyable animated adventure. The animal-centric musical boasts questionable designs and cantankerous characters but is moderately charming enough to rise to the level of worthy, family-friendly oddity.

Lifting wholesale plot points from both "The Lion King" and "Madagascar," India's "Delhi Safari" revolves around a group of animals driven to protect their homes and, if needed, take on humankind. Journeying to the city led by a feline apparition, the beasts teach humans the importance of sharing the world. The themes are direct, and the story, when not plagiarizing story beats, has compelling moments.

Alright, this is one of those movies I'm gonna have to figure out my rating for as I'm writing the review, so just bare with me here. I saw this movie eons ago when I was much younger and completely forgot about it until it just randomly popped in my memory again. I decided to check it out again today and oh, boy, does it NOT stand the test of time. I mean, I had forgotten most of the movie except for a character's death in the opening scene and a moment of revelation between all of the characters, but I put faith in the idea that maybe this movie wasn't THAT bad. A very bad children's flick where a parrot attempts to film pornography (???) and a monkey keeps about thirty guns inside his skin. Yes, really. Delhi Safari is a 'film' that was made. The animation is atrocious the characters are banal and the plot almost exists. Watching this film is like watching paint dry except the paint is a monkey that is trying to shoot you. Do. Not. Watch. Delhi. Safari. Please.

So um... The monkey is trying to kill the parrot, right? Like, he's been hiding bombs and machine guns in his skin for this purpose. (They shake it out of his skin pockets, so we know what he was hiding.) And um, the parrot and monkey become friends after they... get drunk on coconut milk. That is highly unrealistic, everyone watching wanted to kill that stupid parrot, the monkey was my favorite character because he wanted to kill that parrot. But NO! This movie had to show kids that EVERYONE becomes friends after getting drunk. They had to throw in morals or whatever. 0/10 because the monkey forgot to follow through.

lion king and madagascar could never do what govinda did as a voice actor for a bhojpuri monkey nobody understands this film like i do i have a deep special attachment to delhi safari and make everyone close to me watch this after tying them up and keeping their eyes open with clips idc it is the best film ever i gave up on non veg for a whole week as a kid after watching it although i gave in because of a few chicken nuggets but thats ok we leave that part out What im saying is delhi safari predicted the farmer’s protest and is the deepest commentary on society…

I honestly thought this film was pretty boring when I first saw this sometime in the summer of 2013.

But wait a minute... at least two talented actors like Tara Strong and Christopher Lloyd are at least in it as English voice actors, but still doesn't save the film from being bad.

Wisecracking Jungle Animals on an Ecological Crusade

The worst thing about the animated film “Delhi Safari” isn’t that it’s awful. It’s that it shamelessly rips off much better animated movies. What kind of lesson is that for our young people?

The film, made in India but overdubbed in English for the American release, follows a group of animals whose forest home is being threatened by callous developers. The beasts decide to hike to New Delhi to try to get their grievances heard.

That they spend most of this journey engaging in dreary infighting and occasionally singing equally dreary songs would make the film unappetizing even if it didn’t so brazenly borrow from “The Lion King,” “The Jungle Book” and others.

An adorable lion cub — oh, sorry; it’s a leopard — who communes with his dead father (who lost his life saving the cub) is at the center of the story. Sound familiar? So will the laid-back, wisdom-spouting bear, the malicious hyenas and the humans-are-evil plot. This film is supposed to represent a step forward for Indian animation. The trouble is, there’s not an original idea in it.

“Delhi Safari” is rated PG (Parental guidance suggested). It has menacing moments.
