Ham and jam and Spamalot! Monty Python's Spamalot is the spectacularly silly on stage musical adaptation of  the 1975 comedy classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Like the film, Spamalot is a whimsical romp through King Arthur's quest to find the Holy Grail. The audience watch as Arthur and his knights of the round table (or band of misfits!) search high and low for the ultimate relic, coming across the bold but bloody black night, some knights who say "Nee", the beautiful but feisty Lady of the Lake and one truly terrifying bunny rabbit! Spamalot includes original songs "Find your Grail," "He's Not Dead Yet" and of course the ultimate Monty Python classic, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life." A comedy must for all fans of something silly!

My husband and two daughters aged 20 and 18 came with me to London on a very short trip for business and leisure but we fitted in a visit to see Spamalot.  Thank you for the best laugh out loud evening we have spent in many a long month.  The whole cast was amazing and Joe and lovely Bonnie were a joy, I had forgotten what a fantastic voice Bonnie has, I did see her in Cats too many years ago to remember. Everyone's boundless energy and gusto left us all with spirits uplifted and singing "Always look on the bright side of life" walking to the tube.....oh well we are a little eccentric on the Isle of Man....

Went to see this tonight and it's the best show I've ever seen! Absolutely brilliant cast and funny throughout. Would recommend Spamalot to anyone who will listen

Went to the matinee yesterday, Sat 30 Nov, when - at very short notice - Joe Pasquale had to leave his Panto rehearsals and step in to take the role of King Arthur. What a show. Such a good cast. Lots of fun and laughs with many memorable moments. And hats off to Joe P. for such a brilliant, faultless, professional and funny performance. A gentleman and a star. No wonder we stood and gave him a standing ovation. He should be proud.

What a jolly show! This show was rather like a naughty pantomime, it was certainly all fun and frolics. As a man of a certain age, I remember Monty Python from my youth which made the experience even better! The show was 2 hours long which I think was the perfect length. Hilarious, pacey and racy!

SPAMALOT retells the legendary tale of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail.

The 2005 Broadway production was nominated for fourteen Tony® Awards of which it won three including Best Musical and was followed by two successful West End runs.

Inspired by the classic comedy film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, SPAMALOT features shenanigans including a chorus line of dancing divas, legless knights, men in tights, killer rabbits and a flatulent Frenchman.

Throughout the show Arthur, travelling with his servant Patsy, recruits several knights to accompany him on his quest including Sir Bedevere, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad. Besides the rabbits and farting Frenchman, they meet such characters as the Lady of the Lake, Prince Herbert, Tim the Enchanter, Not Dead Fred, the Black Knight and the Knights who say Ni.

For side-splitting laughs, tonnes of nostalgia and toe-tapping songs, look no further than Spamalot tickets

Spamalot is the Monty Python musical that has been “lovingly ripped off” from the acclaimed 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The original Broadway production of Spamalot won three Tony Awards including the awards for Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical. Spamalot also won a Grammy Award in 2006 for Best Musical Show Album.

Following a successful West End debut in 2006 at the Palace Theatre, the show returns to London for another cheeky romp through Camelot at the Playhouse Theatre .

The plot of Spamalot is almost exactly the same as the Holy Grail; King Arthur along with his squire, Patsy and a selection of knights go on an epic quest to find the Holy Grail. The quest lead the troupe to a French castle, into the dangerous clutches of the Black Knight and a loathsome bunny rabbit, to a rendezvous with the knights that say knee, and into an intimate liaison with the Lady of the Lake.

Unlike the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is jam packed with silly songs to match the action. The opening number “Finland”/ “Fisch Schlapping Dance” was created especially for the show along with other original songs such as “I Am Not Dead Yet,” “The Song that Goes Like This,” and “The Diva’s Lament (Whatever Happened to My Part.” The show also includes the song originally made famous by Monty Python in The Life of Brian, “Always Look in the Bright Side of Life” which is always a crowd pleaser!

Spamalot is all singing, all dancing silliness; it is rather like an adult pantomime! The show pokes fun at theatre whilst revelling in the gaiety of live performance.

Child Friendly

Spamalot has some cheeky, sexual humour, course language and some pretty gruesome scenes of Medieval battle and is therefore not appropriate for younger children. Spamalot is not recommended for children under the age of 12.

Spamalot

Enjoy a laugh a minute with Spamalot!

If you love Monty Python you’re in for a real treat. Now for something completely different… it’s Spamalot! The popular Monty Python musical returns to the West End with the Python team’s stage adaptation of the classic 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As well as some familiar tunes you’ll recognise from the movie, Spamalot comes complete with more songs and a host of extra funny bits to keep your laughing gear occupied. King Arthur stars in an extremely silly script created by Eric idle and the music is by Idle’s good friend and long-time creative collaborator, John Du Prez.

Spamalot – The story

King Arthur reigns and the Knights of the Round Table, plus their gorgeous show girls, enjoy a life rich in witch burnings, hostile French people, Evil Knights, terrifying murderous rabbits and all manner of strange, weird and wonderful fun. The Arthurian Legend will never be the same!

Why Spamalot? Eric Idle explains: I like the title Spamalot a lot. We tested it with audiences on my recent US tour and they liked it as much as I did, which is gratifying. After all, they are the ones who will be paying Broadway prices to see the show. It comes from a line in the movie which goes: "we eat ham, and jam and Spam a lot."

Britain’s favourite comedy song takes the stage, with Always Look On the Bright Side of Life raising the rafters every time. The cast is amazing. The costumes are beautifully ridiculous. And the excellent production values make it a show you’ll never forget.

Expect funny… very funny. Ever since the show first premiered in Chicago back in 2005, it has been drawing huge crowds of seasoned Python fans as well as delighting thousands of people who haven’t experienced the delights of Pythonesque humour before.

“Your mother is a hamster and your father smells of elderberries”

If that made you laugh, Spamalot is for you! Rock your world with tunes like Finland/the Fisch Schlapping Dance , the Monk’s Chant , King Arthur's Song , I Am Not Dead Yet and Come With Me . Sing along to Laker Girls Cheer , The Song That Goes Like This , All For One and Knights of the Round Table . Laugh at Find Your Grail , Run Away! And hear Always Look on the Bright Side of Life live, the real deal.

However, the cast like it so much they laugh at each other every time it was said. Stay away if English is not your first language as you certainly won't get any of the jokes (???) Totally lame. Totally unfunny. It lives because of the memories of the Monty Python sketches, which wer cutting edge in their time, but are now jaded and dated.

Joe Pasqualie and Carly Stenson were fabulous as were the rest of the cast, Joe especially will have you roaring with laughter.

A great mix of Monty Python & new to create a complete comedy head mess! Very random jokes mixed in with the classic python style comedy. Great songs added as well. Really good show & would reccomend to anyone with a sense of humour.

Monty Python has been a delight in our popular culture since their absurd, irreverent comedy first graced our small screens in the 70s. I am of the generation that could recite whole slabs of dialogue ( a good thing ?) and this show is peppered with such quotes. So much so that you can spend 10 minutes of a sketch anticipating punch lines that now have the impact of an old favourite sweater rather than their original side splitting impact. This production was ably performed by the trimmed down cast and band and as such had some of the feel of the original MP shows that had a very limited budget. High point was newer material like Lady In The Lake's diva song in Act 2 about having been offstage too long - Eric Idle the master of the pisstake. Pinter this ain't but a gently amusing, high energy show in an old chocolate box of a theatre

The show was an unmitigated success, earning 14 Tony Award nominations and winning three including Best Musical. After the initial Broadway run of the musical, it enjoyed another successful premiere at London’s West End. Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. Did we mention the bevy of beautiful showgirls? The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs. The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight audiences as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life.”

The Magic Of Spamalot

Monty Python’s Spamalot is a parody of the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which is a parody of the legend of King Arthur and his quest for the grail. But the parodies don’t stop there. This tongue-in-cheek musical parodies not only the Arthurian legend but also the conventions of Broadway musicals.

The Magic of Spamalot lies in its ability to seamlessly blend the humor of Monty Python with the grandeur and spectacle of a Broadway show. It takes the traditional elements of a musical and turns them on their head, mocking the predictable formulas and cliches that often accompany these productions.

From catchy songs and elaborate dance numbers to over-the-top characters and outrageous comedic moments, Spamalot entertains audiences by subverting their expectations and embracing a more irreverent and self-aware style of storytelling.

Nik Walkeris a movie nerd, Boston native and unqualified NYU professor, and although he’s enjoyed quite a ride in this industry- on B’way as A.Burr in Hamilton ; on TV in Blue Bloods and Law and Order SVU ; in the upcoming film The Instigators , alongside his hero Matt Damon; and as a writer, most notably developing his animated series Cleaners at Warner Bros Discovery with the incredible Alex Brightman- his real dream... is to spend a night in the secret room inside Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World. WDW is magic; Nik and his very patient wife Sarah visit often, and procuring this stay is their white whale. Again, to be clear, it’s a room INSIDE the castle, y'all. And do you know who's stayed there? Broadway.com Audience Award nominee, James Monroe Iglehart. James has lovingly tortured Nik for years, and if he got a stay, then Nik should, too. Anyway, Nik thanks God, his mom and fam, (including Jess Nurse and Ryan Garcia, who forced him to name them individually), Stewart Talent, The Boothe Group, and House Buckets. “Dedicated to my Uncle Bob, who taught me how to laugh.”

is one of the original six creators of “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” which began life on BBCTV in 1969. They eventually made five feature films, including two of the top ten comedy movies of all time. Eric, together with longtime collaborator and Composer John Du Prez, adapted The Holy Grail into the record-breaking musical Monty Python’s Spamalot , which ran for almost five years on Broadway. It was nominated for 13 Tonys, winning 3, including Best Director for Mike Nichols and the Tony Award® for Best Musical in 2005, plus a Drama Desk Award and a Grammy® for the authors. They then created a Comic Oratorio Not The Messiah, He’s a Very Naughty Boy based on Monty Python’s Life of Brian , which premiered in Toronto, and played The Sydney Opera House, The Hollywood Bowl, Wolf Trap, and Carnegie Hall and was eventually filmed with most of the Pythons at The Royal Albert Hall for the 40th Anniversary of Monty Python. Eric wrote, directed and starred in The Rutles , the world’s first mockumentary, and in 2012 he sang his own song “Always Look On the Bright Side of Life” before a billion people at the Closing Ceremony of the London Olympics. In 2014 he directed and appeared alongside conductor John Du Prez in the Monty Python final reunion show One Down Five To Go , which sold out London’s O2 Arena for ten nights. In 2018, his Sortabiography Always Look on the Bright of Life became a New York Times Best seller. In 2019 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which he survived thanks to early diagnosis and great doctors. Following his appearance on “The Masked Singer” in 2022, he launched The Bright Side Fund (Standup2Cancer/Eric Idle) to help fund Research. His musical play What About Dick? with songs by JDP is currently playing on Netflix.

There, he studied Mandarin Chinese (of course) and spent a year in Hong Kong during which he was Principal Horn of the HK Philharmonic. Then on to London to gain a music degree and ARCM diploma and join the staff of London University. Meeting the Pythons in 1978, he started writing film music ( Life of Brian ) and having multiple chart success with Modern Romance . Their club hit “Everybody Salsa” won MR the New York DJ Syndicate 1981 award for Best New Band. He has scored more than 20 feature films including The Meaning of Life , A Private Function , A Fish Called Wanda , Once Bitten , UHF and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (with its platinum soundtrack album). Other Python projects include the Contractual Obligation Album , Monty Python at the Hollywood Bowl and editing The Monty Python Song Book . In 2001, he co-wrote Monty Python’s Spamalot with Eric Idle which won them both Grammys®, the 2005 Tony for Best Musical and a Tony nomination for the score. He conducted their comic oratorio Not The Messiah on a world tour, which included Sydney Opera House, Hollywood Bowl (LA Phil) and finally the Albert Hall (BBC Symphony) for the Python 40th Anniversary. He was MD for the London O2 Arena farewell concerts - Monty Python Live (Mostly) - and recently scored the BAFTA Award-winning animation series “The Clangers”. For more info see johnduprez.com.

The St. James Theatre opened in 1927 as The Erlanger. Upon Erlanger’s death in 1930, control of the venue was taken over by the Astor family, who owned the land on which the theatre stood. The Astors renamed it the St. James Theatre.

The theatre was purchased by the Shuberts in the late 1930s who then sold it to William L. McKnight in 1957. McKnight renovated the St. James and reopened it in 1958. In 1970, McKnight then transferred the theatre to his daughter Virginia and her husband James H. Binger, who had formed Jujamcyn Theaters.
