Weekend Trip to Kasol – Detailed Day by Day Itinerary

Shefali Joshi

Kasol is on the radar for one and all! A lot of times, we get this question about planning a weekend trip to Kasol. The connectivity with cities like Delhi and Chandigarh makes it possible to plan a trip to Kasol on the weekend.

Kasol Weekend Trip - A Perfect Itinerary

When the travel bug initially bites you – no other place has the same lure for off-beat-discover-the-world folk. The stories from Kasol are plenty , and the verdict is always the same – Kasol is quiet, yet adventurous – unleashing an experience of a lifetime. A Kasol weekend trip is a must for those looking for a quick escape to nature.

While it is true that Kasol is ‘not what it used to be,’ the place still has the same pull for a lot of people. It is because if you ignore the crowds of tourists, you can still capture the same feelings. These feelings include the beautiful green forested mountains, with the Parvati river flowing in the middle of the valley and little houses popping up on faraway lands. It is surely a scene that is always welcoming.

Let's quickly dive into the details:

What is the best time to visit Kasol on weekend?

A Kasol weekend trip can be accomplished at any time you fancy in the year! I would personally avoid Monsoon season, as the hills are sensitive, and you might get stuck due to landslides, etc.

But, if you fancy the winter season – then go for it, and if summer is your jam, there’s a tonne to do. Of course, a lot would also depend on what you want to do when you get to Kasol. For example, visiting the Kheerganga trek will not be possible in winter .

If chilling and enjoying nature is on the cards – then season shouldn’t be a bar. But, if you want to party and attend a rave or two – the best bet would be May – July.

Can you make a weekend trip to Kasol?

You will be able to make a trip to Kasol in 3 days. So, yes, if the idea is to visit Kasol and come back, then a weekend trip to Kasol is possible.

With that said – Kasol is, of course, a must-visit and re-visit (and as many times as you can!) – because Parvati Valley beckons ! Kasol, in particular, and the entire Parvati Valley, in general, is not a mere destination. It is a Himalayan experience that leaves you in awe, pushes you to live, slows you down to notice, and leaves you with #majorfeels.

Let’s look at the most common itinerary that you can follow for a Kasol trip on weekend.

Kasol Weekend Trip – A Perfect Itinerary

So, how do you visit Mini-Israel aka Parvati Valley at every chance you get?

Follow my YouTube Channel & Ask Travel Questions

Let us help you out with planning a perfect Kasol Weekend trip.

Day 0 – Getting Started

Take an overnight bus from Delhi to reach Bhuntar in the AM. Try reaching around 7-9 AM.

Day 1 – Exploring Kasol

Take a bus from Bhuntar to Manikaran in the morning and get off at Kasol. The first bus from Bhuntar for Manikaran via Kasol leaves at 6 AM and then hourly after that. Alternatively, you can hail a private/shared cab from Bhuntar itself. The 31 km distance from Bhuntar to Kasol will take around 1.5 hours in the bus or an hour by taxi.

Travel Tip : You can also plan a budget trip to Kasol if you are short on budget.

Venture out and explore the many cafes nestled in the hills and relax where the vibe is as per your taste. Exploring cafes is the best activity to do in Kasol, and honestly, I have spent quite a few vacations doing just this and nothing else when in Kasol.

It has a charm of its own – the maximum chill that you can imagine. Just stare out into the snow-capped mountains and the music of the Parvati river for your pleasure and peace. Of course, with just a day at hand, it will be difficult to do treks in the Parvati Valley which needs more days.

What about any hikes?

If you’re feeling like changing locations, exploring the mountains – then an evening Chalal trek is on the cards. Chalal is a deeper holiday experience and the intense connection it provides with nature is indescribable. There are a couple of cute cafés in the little hamlet that is located JUST on the river itself. So dig into your thoughts along the river while munching on some incredible delicacies (probably Israeli). Head back to Kasol after indulging yourself in some natural therapy.

Now is the time to relax (as if that’s not what we have been doing the entire Kasol weekend trip!) and unwind. Head on to a beautiful riverside café with some live music to groove. Head on to your hotel for a cozy night in. Or, better yet, chill and enjoy the night skies for as long as they can keep you mesmerized (Eternity for me, you?)

Travel Tip : If you are planning a trip in winter season, do not forget to check the list of places near Delhi to enjoy snowfall in Himachal .

Delicious food to try on a Kasol Weekend Trip

Day 2 – Exploring Parvati Valley

Today, you get to explore the valley further. Take a pick of either a day trip to Tosh , Kheerganga, Manikaran or Malana and have a ball . All three places except Manikaran require some trekking (or extensive for some) – so choose accordingly. I would suggest spending the entire day at these locations and only returning at night to your digs. There are tonnes of things to do in Parvati Valley.

You should always carry your water bottle and refill it as many times as you need water. It will not only keep you hydrated always, but you will also help in saving the Himalayas from plastic garbage. Remember, every tiny step counts and your step in this direction can help save the Himalayas too !! 🙂 🙂

Day 3 – Kasol & Home Base

On your final day – get crackin’ with some retail therapy. Stroll through the local flea market to pick up souvenirs from the trip. You’ll also be able to get your hands on some semi-precious stones, and other trinkets.

Of course, coming to the land famous (infamous, sometimes!) for smoking pot – there is a lot of mainstream cultural reverence for Shivji and Bob Marley alike! Clothing including caps, pullovers, coats, t-shirts is available in plentiful.

Grab some delicious food to hog on before catching the bus / hailing a cab to Bhuntar. From there, choose your mode of transportation back to your home base. Finally, bid adieu to this land of Himachal only to return soon.

Travel Tip : Do not forget to check this complete list of offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh .

BONUS – Must-Visit Cafes in Kasol

I wouldn’t let you hanging when it comes to deciding where to eat in Kasol. I am a firm believer that the MOST important part of any trip is food. Food is a way to be introduced to the culture, the vibe of the place. I strongly believe that without food, a journey isn’t complete, my friend.

  • Buddha Place : This my favorite place in Kasol – primarily because of its location. This tiny little café is situated right on the river. The view makes up for the limited menu.
  • Stone Garden Café: The cafe serves delicious food and overlooks all the action on the main street. It even has live music – always a plus. Anything Israeli is delicious here. Also, bonus (within a bonus!) – it serves alcohol.
  • Jim Morrison Café : A place that is synonymous with the Kasol Experience. From good food to excellent music, from the scrumptious food to lots to do – Jim Morrison has you covered.
  • Evergreen Café: This café is evergreen and has been around forever. Trippy vibes, trance music all accompanied by good food – it is wonderful, a must-visit!
  • Freedom Café: Freedom shows up on this list for being open late at night! It also has excellent coffee.

This itinerary in the article is for a weekend trip to Kasol for those who are running short on time. But if you have a few more more days at hand then you can refer our perfect itinerary of Parvati Valley . It will help you soak into the Parvati Valley at an easy pace and you will enjoy more in the lap of Himalayas.

A beautiful sunrise in Parvati Valley

Kasol Waichin Valley Trek

Waichin valley trek

Overview : Waichin Valley is located above the village of Malana in Himachal Pradesh. Waichin Valley Trek has different charms to it. Due to its high altitude, one can experience snow here as late as April with meadows after meadows covered in a thick blanket of snow. During the summers, there are lush green meadows as far as the eye can see, and finally, autumn brings a crispness in the air, with the trees turning yellow to orange before the valley is blanketed by snow again.

Above all, the trail that leads up to Waichin is not only bountiful in nature but also culturally rich. Not long ago Kasol was just another quaint little hamlet tucked away deep in Himachal Pradesh that no one knew about. Recently it burst onto the tourist map due to two main reasons, one being easy availability of high-quality hashish ( Possession and consumption of Hashish are illegal in India,  you can be even arrested if you happen to have it ), and second due to beautiful hiking and trekking trails all around Kasol.

In my opinion, Kasol offers much more than the stereotypical clichés given to it by people. For instance, if you are a foodie then Kasol is the best place to be at. There are a ton of different cafés that offer lip-smacking multi-cuisine delicacies to soothe your taste buds.

If you are an avid trekker then there are a lot of hiking routes and trails that will excite you. The vibe of this place is such that one would to just relax and admire the serene landscapes while witnessing the river Parvati in its full flow.

kasol itinerary

Kasol Itinerary: Things to know before you go

Kasol, a scenic hamlet located in Parvati Valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh is the hippie capital of India. Kasol was already on the hippie trail for quite a long time but only a handful of people knew about it. Off late more and more people have started visiting this place, making it a favourite among backpackers

There are many things you can do in and around Kasol. A pre-defined Kasol itinerary can help you explore Kasol in a more efficient manner.  In the current blog, I will be providing you with a detailed Kasol itinerary. However, before I proceed, there are certain things you should know Kasol:

Kasol Itinerary: Best Way to spend 2, 4 or 6 Days in Kasol

From relishing hummus to going on a trek, there are many exciting things to do in Kasol .  So, depending on the number of days you have, this Kasol itinerary will surely help you plan accordingly. I would suggest spending around 4 -7 days in an around Kasol, but many do not have that luxury.

I started my Kasol trip from Mumbai by taking a direct flight to Delhi. I backpacked across Parvati Valley for 10 days and stayed in Kasol for around 4-days during winters.

As most of the people who travel to Himachal Pradesh either start from Delhi or Chandigarh, here are 3 different Delhi to Kasol trip itineraries depending on the number of days.

chalal bridge kasol

Surreal landscapes as seen from Chalal bridge which is just 5 mins away from the main Kasol market. Chalal is one of the must-visit treks around Kasol

Kasol itinerary for 2 days: Perfect for a Weekend Trip to Kasol

This 2-night Kasol itinerary can be a perfect weekend trip if you are looking to escape your mundane routine for a couple of days. I am assuming that the trip starts from Delhi.

You start by boarding an overnight bus from ISBT Kashmere Gate, Delhi. You can take an HRTC Volvo bus and even book the tickets in advance online . These are a quite comfortable and convenient option. Board any bus that goes to Manali.

Kasol Itinerary 4 days: The plan I would recommend

I feel that a minimum 4-days are needed to experience the sheer beauty of this place. This 4 days Kasol Itinerary also involves a bit of trekking to one most famous and beginner-friendly treks in Himachal that is Kheerganga.

Your trip starts by taking an overnight bus from Delhi to Bhuntar.

malana kasol

Parvati Valley in Kasol is a natural wonder. The natural beauty of the woods will mesmerize you. The clear blue water of the Parvati river adds to the magnificence of this place.

Kasol Itinerary 6 days: Exploring Parvati Valley to the Fullest

If you have the luxury of staying in Kasol about a week, there is much more you can do. This 6-day Kasol Itinerary will enable you to explore many nearby places around Kasol and Parvati valley and trek around Parvati valley and Kasol as well.

Board evening Volvo bus from ISBT Kashmere Gate to begin your Kasol adventure.

7 Places that need to be added to your Kasol Itinerary

Here is a brief overview of some of the places covered under my Kasol itinerary:

  • Malana – Malana is a remote village located in Parvati Valley. Dubbed as the oldest democracy in the world, people in Malana expect visitors to abide by some rather strange rules. You can read all about these rules in this blog .
  • Manikaran- Manikaran is a Sikh and Hindu pilgrimage centre that attracts many visitors. Take a dip in the hot water springs here and visit the temples and the Gurudwara.
  • Tosh-  Tosh is the last motorable village in Parvati Valley. Surrounded by lush green mountains with pine, deodar, oak trees, it offers a magnificent view of these mountains. You can read my complete backpacking guide to Tosh in this blog .
  • Chalal – Chalal is just 30 mins hike from Kasol It is one of the shortest and easiest hiking trails around Kasol.
  • Rasol – Rasol is another unexplored village in Parvati Valley. You can easily trek from Kasol to Rasol village in about 2-3 hours.
  • Kheerganga – Kheerganga is one of the most sought after treks in Kasol. This trek takes about 2 days to finish and can be completed even by beginners.
  • Kalga- is another lesser-known village of Parvati Valley. You can find a few accommodations here.

How much will your Kasol Trip Cost?

One of the main reasons why people head to Kasol and nearby places is because it is light on the pocket as there are is no scarcity of decent budget options for accommodation except for a few months when it is peak season. The internal transport in and around Kasol is also very cheap.

Accommodation is fairly inexpensive in and around Kasol (except peak season prices are high to due high tourist influx). A budget stay will cost around 500-800 INR per day depending on what you choose .

  • If you choose Backpackers hostel that it can come down to around 300-350 INR per dorm bed.
  • Guesthouses and will cost anywhere between 500-800 INR.

If you have someone to share a room with, then guesthouses and hotels can be a decent option as well. You can opt for Luxury hotels, guesthouses in Kasol but your cost will go up. Kasol also has a lot of campsites around the bank of the river Parvati. But they tend to be a little bit expensive than Hostels, Guesthouse, and hotels.

The only thing that is a little bit expensive is the food. If you are going to visit the famous cafés in Kasol then it will cost you a bit but trust me it is worth it since the food is just amazing here.

Food is going to a bit expensive here, So I would say it will be around 500-700 INR per day depending on how many cafes you visit. Though it is a little bit on the expensive side, trust me, you will love all the Multi-cuisine delicacies that Cafés in Kasol offer.

green house cottage kasol

Green house cottage is located at one of the best locations at Kasol. It is surrounded by forest and Parvati river is a 5-minute distance away from the cottage. I absolutely loved the stay here.

Where to Stay In Kasol on a budget?

The accommodation shouldn’t be a problem as there are plenty of budget hostels, hotel, and guest houses. As soon as you enter Kasol, you will spot clusters of Budget hotels and guesthouses the rooms there are not fancy but are decent enough.

They can be priced anywhere between 500 – 800 INR . The prices can be exorbitantly high during the peak season even for even basic rooms. I stayed in a couple of hotels in that area that were decent and were priced at INR 500, but it was in February which can be considered as off-season and it did feel like off-season as the foreign travellers were almost absent.

For all you backpackers and solo travellers, backpacker hostels will come to your rescue as there a couple of popular hostel chains in Kasol. Some of the best hostels here are:

If you are for some decent luxury rooms then there you have to go to the far end of Kasol. Hotel Sandhya is one of the luxury hotels in Kasol . Greenhouse cottages near Hotel Sandhya have very spacious and amazing rooms. The Forest area and Parvati riverbank are also near. I got an amazing deal for Greenhouse cottages priced at INR 1000 . But this was winter, prices will be surely on the higher side during peak season.

How to reach Kasol?

There is no direct bus for Kasol from either Delhi or Chandigarh. Therefore, for a first time visitor, reaching Kasol can be a  bit confusing.

Reaching Kasol by road

Kasol can be only reached by road. For those making a solo trip to Kasol or are on a tight budget, Volvo buses will be your best bet. First, you need to board buses going towards Manali. There are a lot of Ordinary and Volvo buses of both private operators and HRTC plying on Delhi – Manali route from ISBT Kashmere gate.

Then you need to get down at Bhuntar since this is where the road to Kasol in Parvati valley diverts. From Bhuntar you need to take to local buses or shared cabs going towards Kasol.

There are a couple of HRTC buses from Delhi in the evening that directly go towards Manikaran. I n case you don’t want to do a break journey and save time then is the perfect option (Kasol comes before Manikaran). Of course, there are only two buses so it might not be convenient for everybody.

If have self-driven cars or private vehicles, then just make sure you take the diversion at Bhuntar. On average Delhi to Kasol, bus journey would take around 13-15 hours.

Reaching Kasol by Air

The nearest airport is in Bhuntar, but the frequency of flights to Bhuntar is very less. So the fares are on the higher side. From Bhuntar, you can take shared cabs or local buses going towards Kasol. It might not be a budget-friendly option, but if you short on days and budget is not a constraint then this option should be considered.

jim morrisons cafe kasol

Jim Morrisons café is one of the best cafe in Kasol. I absolutely loved the vibe of this café and they serve awesome food here. It is must visit when you are in Kasol.

Where and what to eat in Kasol?

Though cafes predominantly serve Italian and Israeli food, most of them offer multi-cuisine including Indian food in some cafés. Israeli food like hummus, falafel platter, etc. will be readily available and is a must-try when you are in Kasol .

Italian food served in most of the cafes is extremely delectable. Apart from Italian and Israeli food, traditional Indian food is also readily available in and around Kasol.

Kasol is also famous for its mouth-watering desserts like cakes, pie, croissants, etc . There are quite a few bakeries here which serve these kinds of deserts. Germany bakery being the most popular one out there with its apple pie and cheesecakes being a must-try. Unfortunately, when I visited Kasol German bakery was not operational since it was off-season and would open again only after April.

There are a ton of different Cafes in Kasol and you probably require 2 days to cover all of them. I visited quite a few of them and the food was extremely delicious. Bhoj Café, Evergreen Café, Freedom Café, Moondance Café, Jim Morrisons Café, Little Italy, Panj Tara Café are among the popular ones in Kasol.

In my opinion, Evergreen Café, Jim Morrisons Café and Little Italy are a must-visit as they serve lip-smacking food. Personally, my favourite is Jim Morrisons café as the café inspired by Jim Morrison the lead singer of the classic rock band “The Doors”, classic rock numbers are played during the day. The café has a very chill vibe to it and is heaven for vegetarians as the café serves only vegetarian food. To reach this café you would have to hike uphill for 10 minutes from Hotel Sandhya.

Unlike Manali, there are not many cafes that offer live music in Kasol. Panj Tara café is the only one that I know which offers live music.

What’s the best time to visit Kasol?

This is very subjective as this would depend on what kind of colours and landscapes one wants to see. But one thing is for sure the weather remains very comfortable throughout the year except for cold winters which start from late November to early March.

If you time your visit to Kasol during off-season months like January, February, March in winter, or in September, October, November during Autumn, then you would enjoy it a lot more as there would be no crazy tourist rush when compared to Summer months or the period of Christmas and new year. There would be no problems whatsoever for Backpackers and Budget travellers as the accommodation prices would not be exorbitantly high.

kasol itinerary

A total whiteout near Malana gate. If you want to experience snowfall, then heading to Malana can be wonderful to experience it as it is just 2 hours from Kasol. Though it snows in Kasol, if you visit in February or March then the chances of experiencing snowfall are very less in Kasol.

  Is Kasol safe to visit?

Kasol is very safe irrespective of gender. In fact, all of the Himachal is very safe and you will find lots of solo travellers backpacking around Kasol and Parvati valley. As you might already know Kasol is infamous for people looking for high-quality hashish called ‘Malana Cream’ , so please make sure you don’t engage in such illicit activities as possession of Hashish is illegal and you can even be arrested.

Apart from this, locals are very amiable and approachable, and they will help you out in any situation, so don’t hesitate and approach them if you need help. While hiking and trekking around this pristine valley avoid taking shortcuts unless accompanied by a professional guide.

Travel Tips for Kasol Trip

I hope this detailed Kasol itinerary helps you plan your travel successfully. Here are a few other tips that will come in handy on your trip to Kasol:

It’s always easy if have some sort of itinerary before travelling as it helps you plan better. Many do not have the luxury of travelling for a lot of days and so I have tried to provide you with three different itineraries. I hope these different Kasol itineraries will help you accommodate maximum places according to your needs.

Weekend Getaways from Delhi: Getting the Most Out of Your Kasol Trip

Weekend Getaways from Delhi: Getting the Most Out of Your Kasol Trip

Regardless of the time of the year, Parvati Valley is a popular destination that sees hundreds of visitors, especially when it comes to travelling to Kasol from Delhi. Famous among all, from teens to adults, and without a doubt one of the most famous places to visit in Himachal Pradesh, Kasol is located about 26 km from Kullu and is home to lush greenery, picturesque landscapes, and is the starting point for several well-known treks, including the Kheerganga, Malana, Rasol, and Tosh treks. You can scour the internet for the best tips for your Delhi to Kasol trip but if you want to head to the hills and ensure you get the best out of your trip, here’s all you need to know:

Getting to Kasol

Himachal roadways

The first thing you should know is that there is no direct train from Delhi to Kasol. In fact, even the nearest train station from Kasol which connects to Delhi is the Joginder Nagar Railway Station, at a distance of 144 km from Kasol. For reaching Kasol with a train ticket to Joginder Nagar from Delhi, the price will be upwards of Rs 1000, which makes it a not so feasible choice. Travelling to Kasol via a Delhi-Chandigarh train is also an option where ticket prices are quite affordable is also an option but that leaves almost 300 km to cover; and with the total distance from Delhi to Kasol being about 600 km, covering the entire journey by road makes for the most suitable option. In fact, even if you take a well-curated Kasol tour package , it will include travel by road. The best way to get there is to go from Delhi to Kasol by car, bus, or traveller.

Delhi to Kasol by Car or Traveller: You can take your own car, but you should be aware that parking can turn into an issue once you get there. Taking a cab or traveller is a good option for decent-sized groups.

Going to Kasol from Delhi by Bus: There are again, no direct buses, but as it is such a popular tourist spot, the travel is quite streamlined and taking a bus and travelling from Delhi to Kasol by road is the most popular mode of travel. To cover the journey from Delhi to Kasol by road, you can choose an affordable non-AC roadways bus or a luxury Volvo bus (there are many options) to Manali. On the way, you can get off at the Bhuntar stop, which is where the path to Kasol forks off.

At Bhuntar, you can choose to take a cab or get on one of the regular local buses to Kasol. Many of these buses also go as far as Barshaini, a small village near Kasol, which is the gateway to Tosh and Buddhaban, the scenic triplets of Kalga, Pulga, and Tulga, and is the starting point for the treks to Rudranag, Kheerganga, Star Pass, and many more scenic destinations. All said and done, the time spent on the Delhi to Kasol route is more than worth it as the scenic journey to Kasol from Delhi does not leave you wanting.

A bus from Bhuntar will add a little less than 2 hours to your travel time from Delhi to Kasol and is the best way to get to the little hamlet in the hills.

Kasol

From camps and rustic cafés to homestays, hostels, and comfortable hotels, there are a huge number of places to stay in Kasol , and you can easily choose any one of them for your stay. However, staying at the nearby villages of Tosh or Malana and exploring Kasol on day trips is the option most people tend to choose for its affordability and sheer adventure. For example, taking a cab to the entrance of Tosh village allows you to cross a bridge over the river to reach the village, where you can find accommodation for less than Rs 500 per room per day. However, in such a case, you need to ensure that any special provisions you need, like packets of chips, or big bottles of cold drink, etc., need to be purchased in Kasol or Barshaini, as they’re not easy to get at the villages, and are priced high if you do manage to find them.

Experiencing Kasol

Most people cover the distance from Delhi to Kasol just to get started on some of the most popular treks, but that does not mean that Kasol can be skipped over completely. Here are the places to visit in Kasol for definitive experiences:

  • Go Back Over the Bridge to Old Kasol and Have a Sit Down at Shiva Mama Café: This café is one of the oldest in Kasol, from way before the hordes of tourists started heading to the small town. Not only can you try some good food, but the owner too has some amazing stories to share if you have the time.
  • Try Some Momos as the River Serenades You: Right at the beginning of Kasol, towards your left, you will see an open momo restaurant, with netting and fabric for walls and a tin shed roof, where you can sit amidst the gurgling sounds of the Parvati River, flowing unseen nearby, and enjoy some delicious, piping hot momos, served with spicy chutneys. Right beside the momo restaurant, a small path also leads to the riverbed, where you can enjoy some quiet time, away from all crowds.
  • Have an Oreo Shake at Evergreen: Sit inside or out at the Evergreen Café and enjoy a wholesome meal; just don’t forget to top it off with a delicious Oreo Shake! Evergreen café is located almost at the end of Kasol’s main road and is a popular spot for delicious food and dark-psy music. If you’re a fan of psychedelic tracks and sheesha, you cannot miss out on Evergreen Café.
  • Spend an Evening at the ART Café: Hidden away in a side street, the ART café is another well-known popular spot in Kasol where you can have good food and music as you spend a delightful evening among other like-minded travellers.
  • Shop on the Streets: All the streets of Kasol are full of a huge number of shops where you can buy some amazing clothes, souvenirs, and other handicraft items at affordable prices, which alone more than make up for all that distance from Delhi to Kasol you covered on your journey.
  • Enjoy the Best Treats at German Bakery: One is located on the main ‘chowk’ of Kasol, the other is at Moon Dance Café, and yet another is the Old German Bakery in Old Kasol. Whichever you prefer, or whichever you plan to visit is up to you but the special salad and cheesecakes of German Bakery simply cannot be missed out on.
  • Visit Manikaran Sahib: Hindus believe that Manu recreated humans at this spot after humankind was wiped out in a flood, which makes this a sacred site. The gurudwara with its hot springs and steamy corridors is always worth a visit. There’s also a Shiva temple right next to it, where you can see people with strings going into openings in the ground, where they are actually cooking rice in cloth bags and the hot springs. Steam also regularly rises from the ground, making for quite a surreal sight, especially as the steam clears to give you a magnificent view of a black stone carving of Lord Shiva that seems to leap out from the wall in all its might.

When you do visit Manikaran, make most of your Kasol trip from Delhi, and at least once take a long scenic walk from Manikaran to Kasol. The walk is mostly downhill and with a 4 km distance to cover, takes about 1 hour on foot (at an average walking pace).

Other Places Near Kasol

The almost 600-km distance from Delhi to Kasol not only takes you to a different state but to a different world altogether where the pace of life is quite different, and priorities can all take a backseat as you indulge in a small break from your daily life. It isn’t hard to find out more about the more popular destinations around Kasol that you can trek to, like the little town of Malana located on the Delhi to Kasol route, the picture-perfect Tosh village with the best views of snow-capped mountains, or Kheerganga where it is said that Lord Shiva meditated for thousands of years. But what about the less known places that people planning a Kasol trip from Delhi generally end up missing out on?

  • Chalal : Chalal is relatively well-known as it’s located about half an hour trek away from Kasol and even the trek is pretty easy – almost like a riverside walk along Parvati River.
  • Rasol : 8000 feet above sea level, with around a hundred houses, Rasol is not just a funny way of saying ‘Kasol’ (Kasol-Rasol). From Kasol to Chalal and then Rasol, you will take about 2-3 hours and that is if you have good stamina. A major part of this trek is more of a hike up a steep stony trail, and it’s this path, inaccessibility, and height that make Rasol quite an elusive destination around Kasol.
  • Grahan : Again, depending on your own stamina and fitness, you can reach Grahan in 3-5 hours with a couple of halts in between. Wooden homes, trippy boards, and hippie cafés welcome you to a tiny hamlet that makes you feel like you’ve entered a storybook land. The trek is fairly easy to accomplish with a couple of tough but manageable parts interspersed in between.
  • The Scenic Triplets : You may have heard of Pulga as being a good spot for raves and psychedelic parties near Kasol, but did you know that Pulga is just one of the three neighboring villages that you can visit when you go to Kasol from Delhi? Kalga, Pulga, and Tulga are well-known for their apple orchards, irresistibly picturesque surroundings, and intensely non-commercialized locales! Free from typical tourist crowds, these rustic destinations are perfect for a complete break from your daily life. Visit rooftop cafés, explore the ‘fairy forest’ with local dogs keeping you company, munch on delicious fresh apples, or just relax and gaze at snow-covered peaks in the rejuvenating serene ambience.

There’s a lot more you can explore in and around Kasol; all you need to do is converse with the locals, who are the best travel guides and can let you know exactly which places are worth a visit and what the best way to get there is.

A trip to Kasol from Delhi has a lot to offer. You just need to walk a little off the well-travelled track and be willing to carve your own adventure!

Life Stories by Veena Patil

‘Exchange a coin and you make no difference but exchange a thought and you can change the world.’ Hi! I’m Veena Patil... Fortunate enough to have answered my calling some 35 years ago and content enough to be in this business of delivering happiness almost all my life. Tourism indeed moulds you into a minimalist... Memories are probably our only possession. And memories are all about sharing experiences, ideas and thoughts. Life is simple, but it becomes easy when we share. Places and people are two things that interest me the most. While places have taken care of themselves, here’s my podcast, which I consider to be a great platform, through which I can share some interesting stories I live and love on a daily basis with all you wonderful people out there. I hope you enjoy the journey... Let’s go, celebrate life!

Thanks to its rugged terrain, Kasol is perfect for trekking; Pin Parvati Pass, Rasol, Sar Pass Trek and Kheerganga are popular trekking trails from Kasol. You can always head over to Magic Valley to experience the snow or spend a night camping outdoors! Spend some money on local items at flea markets or fill your stomachs with delicious food from cafes and restaurants like Buddha Place, Little Italy and Jim Morrison Cafe. Things to Do in Kasol

Trek to Kheerganga: The trek to Kheerganga is an absolute must for adventure enthusiasts. It's a moderate trek that takes around 5-6 hours to reach the top. Along the way, you'll pass through dense forests, gushing streams, and charming villages. Once you reach Kheerganga, take a dip in the natural hot springs, which are believed to have healing properties. The panoramic views of the Parvati Valley from here are simply breathtaking. Pin Parvati Pass Trek: Pin Parvati Pass serves as a perfect destination for the trekkers seeking challenging adventure. It is one of an amazing Trans Himalayan trek with a fascinating trail of approximately 110 km. The track within the thick forests of Great Himalayan National Park is also a big challenge even for an experienced trekker. Camping: Spending a night in camps under the sky full of stars is everybody's dream. This can come true on your visit to Kasol. You can set up camps beside the Parvati River or in the Kheerganga Valley for a whole new thrilling experience.  Trek to Chalal: While Kasol gets the spotlight amongst the villages of the Parvati Valley, one can enjoy the true serenity of the magical Himachal Pradesh by trekking a little further from this major town to the quaint little village of Chalal. Situated at an altitude of over 5300 feet and a 30-minute trek away from the tourist hub of Kasol, Chalal has managed to retain its old world mountain village rustic charm, set in the beautiful Parvati Valley of the Himalayas, with a grand view of snow-capped mountains and majestic pine trees. Visit Manikaran Sahib: Manikaran is a significant religious destination for both Sikhs and Hindus. The Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara is a place of worship and offers langar (free community meal) to visitors. The hot springs in Manikaran are famous, and you can even try cooking rice in the hot water springs. Rave Party: Kasol is known for its vibrant party scene, especially during the summer months. Some places host rave parties that attract partygoers from all over. Keep an eye out for event announcements if you want to experience the nightlife. Israeli Cuisine: Kasol has a strong Israeli influence, so don't miss trying the delicious Israeli cuisine available at local cafes. You can savor dishes like hummus, falafel, shakshuka, and fresh fruit juices. It's a unique culinary experience. Rasol Trek: For a more challenging trekking experience, consider heading to Rasol. This village is less frequented by tourists, offering a quieter atmosphere and a chance to interact with locals. The trek to Rasol is steep but rewarding, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Shopping: Kasol is a haven for shoppers looking for unique souvenirs and clothing items. Explore the local markets to find handmade jewelry, traditional Himachali handicrafts, colorful fabrics, and clothing with hippie vibes. It's an excellent place to pick up gifts for friends and family.

Best Time to Visit Kasol

The best time to visit Kasol is during the summer and early autumn months, which span from March to November. During this period, the weather is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C. It's an ideal time for trekking, camping, and exploring the beautiful landscapes surrounding Kasol. The lush greenery, clear skies, and moderate temperatures make it a perfect setting for outdoor activities and photography. However, if you're a fan of snowfall and don't mind the cold, winter (December to February) can also be an enchanting time  to experience the serene beauty of Kasol, though it will be considerably colder.

Kasol Kheerganga Trek from Delhi review

Mukesh Rawat

Very superb trek.

We went in maharaja tempo travellers to Kasol, which was great and spacious. Loved the batch size; just perfect.

The trek is easy, only at some points the terrain is tricky. When you reach the top, you will fall in love with the view. Amazing view, good food, well-ventilated and warm tents with a cooperative and friendly guide.

I would say it was a lifetime experience to me and my family members.... it was snow fall when we went there the 6 hours of walk was totally worth it.........

An amazing, amazing experience that I would love to cherish. Amazing guides and a number of tents are available for staying in Kheerganga. There is also a hot water spring at the top to relieve yourself at the end of the trek. The trek is filled with unlimited amazing views and it is definitely an experience of a lifetime.

Prashant kain

I found this place amazing and disconnected from the digital world gives you more time to explore and live in the beauty of the real world. The sky is clearer and blue more than I have ever seen.

Beautiful place with an amazing trek. It is an excellent challenge for trek beginners. Approx 12 km of walk along the edge of hills. Hot water springs with dissolved naturally occurring sulfur. Definitely worth visiting once.

I trekked to Kheerganga from Barshaini via Nakthan village and reached there in 5 hours. The place was so scenic and the hot spring kund was so relaxing. Trek is not easy for beginners so be careful. You will see apples, and plum orchids on the way. So many waterfalls especially nearby Rudarng temple.

Spent a night at Kheerganga recently. Reached there after a moderate trek and boy was it worth all the effort! Hot Water Kund was awesome. The camp was cozy and the food was unbelievably tasty. Had a wonderful time.

Hey, guys if you are planning to visit the Kheerganga trek within budget it would cost around 2k for an overnight stay you don't need to hire any trek professional it's easy and fun to do it on your own... DM me for more details Happy traveling!
