The Blue Demons Prepare for BIG EAST Outdoor Championships

5/8/2024 9:15:00 PM | TRACK AND FIELD

DePaul arrives to Philadelphia

CHICAGO – DePaul track and field prepares for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on Thursday May 9 through Saturday May 11 at the Jumbo Elliott Track at Villanova Stadium. All three days of the championships will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports presented by Invesco QQQ.

General admission to the event on Friday and Saturday starts at $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 12. Additionally, BIG EAST students with their student ID and children under 3 are free, and there is no admission charge for Thursday's events.

The DePaul track and field team arrives at Villanova after an incredible weekend at the Drake Relays. The Blue Demons etched six new school records into the books including five top-three finishes.

At last year's BIG EAST Outdoor Championships the men's team placed second overall and the women placed third.

Darius Brown looks for his second consecutive title in the men's 110m hurdles. The junior opened his 2024 outdoor season with a school record break in the event, running a time of 13.61 at the Texas Relays.

Two-time BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, Billie Martin kicks things off tomorrow with the women's hammer throw at 2 p.m. CT. The Blue Demon earned the accolade two weeks ago after she achieved a new personal best record of 59.18m in the women's hammer throw at the Drake Relays on April 23.

On Friday, fans can expect to see Brown competing in the first round of the men's 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles followed by Jetta Mays , who currently holds DePaul's 200m record. The junior also leads the conference with her 23.42 time from the Gary Wieneke Memorial Meet on April 13.

Olivia Borowiak closes out the night with the women's 5000m at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Demon broke her previous record in the event at the Stanford Invitational on March 29, with a time of 16:12.73.

Saturday, DePaul record holder Jaiah Hopf starts the competition off with the triple jump at 11 a.m. The Sophomore shares the school record with alum Jade Nolan with a mark of 12.49m.

BIG EAST conference leader, Kash Allen participates in the shot put at 1 p.m. The graduate student transfer has dominated the conference leaderboard all season, holding first place with a current mark of 15.59m. World Champion Noelle Malkamaki is also set to make an appearance alongside Allen in the event.

J. Mays takes on the women's 100m race at 1:12 p.m. The Wisconsin native also holds a DePaul school record in this event while also leading the conference with a time of 11.43. Following, Damian Rodriguez competes in the men's 800m race. The Blue Demon etched his name into the school record book with a time of 1:49.81 from the Chicagoland Invitational on April 6.

The championships conclude with the men's and women's 4x800m relay and the 4x400m relay. At the Drake Relays, both the women's 4x400m relay and the women's 4x800m relays broke school records.
