DP World Tour Championship: Field, tee times, and groups for the season finale

The DP World Tour reaches its conclusion in Dubai.

The DP World Tour reaches its conclusion in Dubai.

The DP World Tour reaches its climax in Dubai for the season-ending Tour Championship, but who is playing and what are the tee times?

Jump To: Round 4 Tee Times | Who Will Win

Four is set to become five for Rory McIlroy, as the Northern Irishman prepares to end the season as Europe’s No.1 golfer once again. It will be the second time Rory has defended the prestigious Race to Dubai title, having previously won the Order of Merit in 2012, 2014, and 2015.

It is also the first time a player has been crowned champion before the final event of the season. McIlroy did not play at last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge, where the only players with a chance of catching the four-time Major champion failed to secure enough points to stay in contention.

McIlroy has now won the Race to Dubai title on five occasions.

Adrian Meronk’s T15 finish in South Africa only gained the Polish player 94.5 points, keeping him an insurmountable 2,294 points adrift of McIlroy, with the only other contender, Ryan Fox, finishing T51.

The most legitimate threat to McIlroy’s defense would have come in the shape of World No.3 Jon Rahm , had the Spaniard decided to make the trip to Sun City. A solid performance at the Nedbank would have put a sizable dent into the 2,083-point deficit, making Rory’s walk in Dubai a little less processional.

There is still a rather big tournament to be won in Dubai however, and with McIlroy and Rahm gunning for their third and fourth Tour Championship titles respectively, the competition is likely to be as fierce as ever.

Jon Rahm won his third DP World Tour Championship in 2022.

Rahm secured a two-shot victory over the stellar field in 2022, making it three wins and a top-five finish from his four trips to the Earth Course. In doing so, Rahm became the first player to win the Tour Championship three times, and the only player to have won five Rolex Series titles.

While McIlroy and Rahm will no doubt be heavily fancied once again in Dubai, a contingent of their Ryder Cup stablemates including Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, and Matt Fitzpatrick will all relish the opportunity to steal bragging rights out in the desert.

Viktor Hovland couldn't hide his delight after Tyrrell Hatton drove the green on the par-4 16th at Marco Simone.

Where is the DP World Tour Championship being played?

The 45th and final event of the DP World Tour season is held at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, a luxury golf community rated among the best lifestyle estates in the world.

The Estate boasts two Greg-Norman-designed courses – Fire and Earth, with the latter having played host to the DP World Tour’s flagship event for 14 years.

At 7,675 yards, the par-72 Earth course has been inspired by the great parklands of Europe and North America, featuring rolling terrain, rushing water, and unforgiving bunkers. The greens typically run at 12 on the stipmeter and water is on play on the 6th, 14, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes.

Englishman Justin Rose holds the course record at the Earth Course. His ten under 62 in 2012 however was not quite enough to prevent Rory McIlroy from winning his first Tour Championship title.

Who is playing in the DP World Tour Championship?

The Tour Championship will feature the top 50 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings including six of the top 20 in the Official Golf World Rankings .

Ten members of Europe’s winning Ryder Cup team from Rome will tee it up in the desert with only Justin Rose and Ludvig Aberg missing out. Other notable names not making the 50-player cut are England’s Aaron Rai and Scotland’s Richie Ramsey, who hold six DP Tour wins between them.

Seven of the top 20 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings hail from Scandinavia, including Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen, Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard, Sweden’s Alexander Bjork and Vincent Normrman, Finland’s Sami Valimaki, and Norwegian FedExCup Champion, Victor Hovland .

Non-European golfers in the field include Ryan Fox, Min Woo Lee, Ryo Hisatsune, Thriston Lawrence, Tom Kim, Daniel Hillier, Zander Lombard, and Lucas Herbert.

The Hojgaard brothers will both compete in the DP World Tour Championship.

Who will win the DP World Tour Championship?

After a stunning 12-under par 60, England’s Matt Wallace (3/1) has launched himself into title contention, firing 12 birdies to top the leaderboard by a shot going into Sunday’s final round.

Hot on Wallace’s heels however are Europe’s Ryder Cup heroes Viktor Hovland (9/5) and Tommy Fleetwood (14/5) who will fancy their chances of a season-ending win in the desert.

Jon Rahm won the 2022 Tour Championship while Rory McIlroy won his fourth Race to Dubai title.

DP World Tour – Race to Dubai standings

Going into the season-ending Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy has compiled an insurmountable lead over the chasing pack from just nine tournaments played. Jon Rahm sits 2,082.53 points behind McIlroy from just seven events with Poland’s Adrian Meronk sitting in third a further 212.25 points adrift from 23 tournaments.

Can players secure PGA Tour cards?

A Strategic Alliance between the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour has enabled a formal pathway to be established for players to earn dual membership status. Following the Tour Championship, the top 10 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings (not otherwise exempt), will gain 2024 PGA Tour exemptions.

Adrian Meronk is currently the highest-ranked player, not otherwise exempt through the top 50 of the 2023 FedExCup standings, and is in prime position to earn an exemption into the Players Championship and two PGA Tour Signature Events in 2024.

Also in contention for dual membership are Rolex Series winner Victor Perez, Ryder Cup rookie Robert MacIntyre, and first-time DP World Tour winner Ryo Hisatsune.

The Dubai Invitational is set for a thrilling finale on Sunday, with Ryder Cup stalwarts Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood set to go head-to-head in the final pairing.

Fleetwood surged up the leaderboard thanks to a superb eight-under-par 63 on Saturday to set the lead at -15 and take his first 54-hole lead on the DP World Tour in ten years.

However, he will have a battle on his hands with McIlroy just one shot back after a third-round 67. The Northern Irishman opened the tournament with a stellar bogey-free 62 and is bidding to kick off his defence of the Race to Dubai trophy in style.

The final pairing will get underway at 12.10pm (local time), with a host of other players looking to surge through the field and cause an upset in the DP World Tour's season-opening event.

Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen is only three shots back off the lead after a solid bogey-free 66 on Saturday. He tees off in the penultimate pairing alongside Jordan Smith, who sits one further back at -11 after back-to-to-back 67s on Friday and Saturday.

Also on -11 is the South African duo of Thriston Lawrence and Zander Lombard. Lawrence won twice on the DP World Tour last year and will go in search of his fifth Tour victory on Sunday, while Lombard goes in search of his first win after an impressive year on Tour last time out.

Tommy Fleetwood of England plays his second shot on the 17th hole during the third round of the Dubai Invitational at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club

Fleetwood has a one-shot lead heading into Sunday

Elsewhere, Rasmus Hojgaard, Yannik Paul and Sean Crocker will need a big day, with all three five shots back off the lead at -10, while Adrian Meronk rounds out the top ten at -8.

DP World Tour Championship LIVE: Tee times, field and how to follow as Jon Rahm eyes history against Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland

  • Jack Johnson
  • Published : 9:23, 19 Nov 2023
  • Updated : 9:23, 19 Nov 2023

Jon Rahm will be out to make history among a star-studded field at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai this weekend.

The World No.3 has the chance to win the event for a record fourth time following his impressive victory in 2022.

Rahm has achieved plenty of success in Dubai

While the Spaniard will be eyeing the title, he won't be able to clinch glory in the season-ending Race to Dubai.

Rory McIlroy has claimed that honour by virtue of Max Homa's victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge last weekend.

McIlroy has now won back-to-back Race to Dubai titles and five in total.

He'll now look to cap off another brilliant year by beating great European rival Rahm and a host of other big names to victory at the Earth Course.

The season-finale is upon us on the DP World Tour, and after a stellar year that has brought pretty much everything apart from a major, Rory McIlroy is in pole position to secure the Harry Vardon Trophy. He tops the DP World Tour Rankings going into the DP World Tour Championship at the Earth Course in Dubai and is battling to fend off the likes of Ryan Fox and Matt Fitzpatrick.

2023 DP World Tour Championship live stream, how to watch online, TV schedule, golf tee times, channel

The race to dubai may have a winner but plenty remains on the line in the european finale.

dpwt-championship-2023-h2w-g.jpg

The DP World Tour season is set to reach its conclusion this week with the 2023 DP World Tour Championship taking center stage at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Earth Course in Dubai. The top 50 players from the Race to Dubai standings will once again take to this par 72 with one eye on a massive payday that could be theirs come Sunday.

Rory McIlroy has already wrapped up the Race to Dubai crown thanks to regular-season performance. Highlighted by a come-from-behind victory at the 2023 Scottish Open, the Northern Irishman has claimed his fifth season-long title on the European circuit. No matter the case, the heavy hitters have arrived and look to put their finishing touches on the calendar year.

Race to Dubai No. 2 Jon Rahm makes his first start since the 2023 Ryder Cup, as does FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland. Englishmen Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood all hope to continue their fine form. Fleetwood comes in following a nice start at the Nedbank Challenge, while Fitzpatrick won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship his last time out in early October.

These stars have their pick of the litter when it comes to where they wish to play in the world. Adrian Meronk hopes for the same as PGA Tour cards will be granted to the top 10 players in the rankings who do not already have their PGA Tour cards for 2024. The top player among these 10 will be fully exempt and adds an extra layer of drama among the likes of Adrian Meronk, Ryan Fox, Robert MacIntyre and Victor Perez.

Featured pairing for Round 4

With 18 holes to go before we crown the 2023 FedEx Cup champion, Viktor Hovland is in complete control.

On Saturday at East Lake, several star contenders either stalled are went backward down the leaderboard. Hovland did nothing of the sort, firing a four-under 66 to move to 20 under.

He leads the player in second place, Xander Schauffele , by a whopping six strokes. Should he hold on to win, he’ll earn the $18 million winner’s prize, which comes one week after earning $3.6 million for his victory at the BMW Championship .

Hovland and Schauffele will tee off in the final pairing on Sunday, setting out at 1:40 p.m. ET.

You can stream Sunday’s final round via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ beginning at 11 a.m. ET or watch the action on Golf Channel starting at 12 p.m. ET and 1:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

Draws and Fades: Stalkers at 5-under worth considering at THE CJ CUP

Draws and Fades

Change Text Size

As expected, if you want a chance at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, you needed to go low at TPC Craig Ranch.

In the three previous editions on this course the winner needed all four rounds in the 60s to prevail and chances are that will continue given Matt Wallace set a cracking pace after an 8-under 63.

A total of 94 players in the 156-man field sit 2-under or better on the par-71 course and I’m willing to say your winner is coming out of that group. A weather delay in the morning ensured the opening round wasn’t fully completed, with a handful of players due to return to complete Friday morning as the second round will start concurrently.

That’s not to say it’s impossible for the slow starters, but if you are seven or more behind after Thursday, you better throw out a 61 or something on Friday just to get back on track!

Just a shot behind Wallace were Canadian Taylor Pendrith, Americans Chesson Hadley, Jake Knapp, Kelly Kraft and Davis Riley, Swede Alex Noren plus Japan’s Taiga Semikawa.

Ben Kohles, Alex Smalley, Hayden Buckley and Brad Hopfinger shared ninth at 6-under but it is group at 5-under who have piqued my interest going forward.

Defending champion Jason Day had some good moments on the way to that number as did the likes of Keith Mitchell, Adam Schenk, Stephan Jaeger, Nick Dunlap, Byeong-Hun An, Min Woo Lee and two-time champion K.H. Lee. Don’t be surprised if the eventual winner comes from this crew.

Jordan Spieth, the pre-tournament favorite, shot a 68 to be six back.

After an early delay Thursday, thunderstorms are again possible overnight and in the early morning, continuing the likelihood of preferred lies being in play, which only ensures scores will continue to be low.

Here are the latest outright odds from BetMGM Sportsbook. Noren is the new favorite as the veteran chases his first PGA TOUR win.

  • +800: Alex Noren (7-under, T2)
  • +1400: Jason Day (5-under, T13)
  • +1600: Matt Wallace (8-under, first)
  • +1600: Jake Knapp (7-under, T2)
  • +1600: Byeong Hun An (5-under, T13)
  • +1800: Stephan Jaeger (5-under, T13)
  • +1800: Min Woo Lee (5-under, T13)
  • +2000: Davis Riley (7-under, T2)
  • +2000: Taylor Pendrith (7-under, T2)
  • +2200: Adam Schenk (5-under, T13)
  • +2500: Keith Mitchell (5-under, T13)
  • +2800: Chesson Hadley (7-under, T2)
  • +2800: Jordan Spieth (3-under, T53)
  • +3000: K.H. Lee (5-under, T13)

Stephan Jaeger +1800

How can I jump off my pre-tournament pick now after a solid 5-under 66 to start. After finishing T11 here a year ago, while leading the way in par-4 scoring, Jaeger was on my radar. The Texas Children’s Houston Open winner is adept at stringing together rounds on the 60s and is brimming from confidence from that victory. Ranked fourth in the first round for SG: Off-the-Tee and 14th in SG: Tee-to-Green. Made just one bogey all day and was 17 from 17 putting inside 10-feet.

Keith Mitchell +2500

This one you can take either way. Mitchell managed to keep together his 5-under round on the back of being eight from eight in Scrambling, not his usual strong point. So one could be worried he won’t maintain that magic going forward. But… on the other hand he sat in 17th for the round on SG: Tee-to-Green, 37th in SG: Off-the-Tee and 50th in SG: Approach – three stats he sits inside the top 11 on TOUR this season. If Mitchell can lift his ball-striking to its usual standards and continue to hold it together around the greens, he represents value here. Of course, if he maintains average ball-striking and loses the touch around the greens, it’s goodnight.

Min Woo Lee +1800

Sneaking under the radar a little in the 5-under crew is Australian Min Woo Lee. Lee is a player I would have plumped for pre-tournament except for the fact he is returning from a finger injury suffered in the gym prior to the Masters recently. Without seeing him in action first he stayed off the card but now, with a 66 under his belt, we might be able to suggest he can shoot up this leaderboard. Ranked 10th in the opening round in SG: tee-to-Green and 12th on Approach, Lee is a stalker here.

Davis Riley +2000

First, credit where it is due. For Riley to shoot 7-under while losing -1.605 strokes to the field on Approach is brilliant. But it is that stat, which ranks him 129th in the field, that sees a huge fade flag raise up. Riley made up the shortfall around the greens and on them, putting lights out. And while he might keep the rock rolling, he can’t put the game under that much pressure and survive. Not to mention he’s without a top-10 this season. Perhaps notching his first of those should be the goal.

Amateur Miles Russell still ballin’ after making Korn Ferry Tour history

Miles Russell, Veritex Bank Championship

Miles Russell continues to prove himself on the biggest of stages.

The 15-year-old Floridian earned a spot in last week’s LECOM Suncoast Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour and took full advantage of the opportunity by finishing in a tie for 15th. That paved the way for another exemption in Texas, where Russell opened the Veritex Bank Championship with a 3-under 68.

The left-hander opened his round with eight straight pars but finally broke through with a birdie at the par-5 9th. A long-range bomb from 30 feet followed at 11, and another birdie at the par-3 12th came minutes after. Suddenly, Russell sat at 3-under and in a solid position through 12 holes.

Russell made another birdie at the drivable, par-4 16th, which measured 329 yards on Thursday. But he made a costly mistake on the final hole, a par-5, as he three-putted from 25 feet for a bogey six.

Still, Russell played beautifully from tee to green, hitting 13-of-14 fairways and 16-of-18 greens. He scrambled nicely, too, going 2-for-2 when he missed the putting surface with his approaches.

But at the end of the day, Russell is 10 strokes behind Frankie Capan III, who shot 58 and broke Scottie Scheffler’s course record in the process.

Still, Russell has a great chance to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour again—one week after becoming the youngest player to record a top-25 finish on the PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour since 1983.

He will likely need another round in the 60s to make the cut again, but knowing how much talent this 15-year-old has, that is most certainly within the realm of possibilities.

Golf roundup: Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy rally to win PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic in playoff

April 28, 2024 at 9:30 p.m.

by The Associated Press

AP photo by Gerald Herbert / Shane Lowry, right, embraces teammate Rory McIlroy after they won the PGA Tour's Zurich Classic of New Orleans in a playoff Sunday at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, La.

NEW ORLEANS — Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy received a standing ovation when they showed up at the historic creole restaurant Arnaud's in the French Quarter on the eve of their final round at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the only team event on the PGA Tour schedule.

They also had the largest, loudest galleries at TPC Louisiana, where the charismatic 34-year-old McIlroy, a four-time major winner from Northern Ireland, had not previously played.

"He's getting old, but he still moves the needle a little bit," joked Lowry, the 37-year-old Irishman and 2019 British Open champion, as McIlroy chuckled. "Rory brings a crowd and people love him, and we've gotten a lot of love in New Orleans. We've had just the best week."

That was certainly true after they won Sunday by beating Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer with a nervy par on the first hole of a playoff. Trainer pushed a six-foot par putt to the right of the cup to end it, with Lowry lifting a laughing McIlroy off the ground with a bear hug on the green.

"To win any PGA Tour event is very cool, but to do it with one of your closest friends — we've known each other for a long, long time, probably like over 20 years," McIlroy said. "To think about where we met and where we've come from, to be on this stage and do this together — really, really cool journey that we've been a part of."

McIlroy secured his 25th PGA Tour victory and first of the season. Lowry has his third PGA Tour victory. Each walked away with about $1.29 million and 400 FedEx Cup points apiece.

"People have come out in the thousands to support us. It's not lost on me how cool that is," McIlroy said. "Every time I get to play in front of thousands of people, the little boy in me just thinks it's so cool and so exciting."

They closed with a 4-under 68 in the alternate-shot final round in windy conditions to match Ramey and Trainer at 25-under 263 for 72 holes.

Ramey and Trainer began the day tied for 27th at 16 under and shot to the top of the leaderboard with birdies on nine of the final 12 holes in regulation. They tied the alternate-shot tournament record of 63, but then had to wait nearly three hours to see if their lead would stand up.

"That was to our advantage," McIlroy said. "I feel for Martin and Chad a little bit. They played an unbelievable round of golf. To shoot 63 out there in those conditions in foursomes is super impressive."

Trainer opened the playoff hole by pulling his drive into the left rough. Ramey also yanked his approach left off the cart path and into the wall below the suites around the 18th green. Trainer then chipped short before Ramey finally got his team on the green.

"Obviously, golf is hard, and sometimes it doesn't go your way," Trainer said. "We did the best we could and had a chance, and that's all you can ask for, really."

Lowry narrowly missed his mark twice on the playoff hole, putting an approach in a bunker and then leaving a birdie putt for the victory on the edge of the cup. However, he had come through when he had to on the final regulation hole, forcing the playoff with a short birdie putt on the par-5 18th, capitalizing on McIlroy's deft lofted chip from the apron that stopped close to the pin.

Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard finished third at 24 under, closing with a 69 and just missing the playoff.

Baylor School graduate Luke List and Keith Mitchell both competed in the event, though not together. List, playing with Henrik Nolander, tied for 19th at 19 under, while Mitchell, playing with Joel Dahmen, tied for 28th at 17 under.

Green closes deal

LOS ANGELES — Hannah Green won the LPGA Tour's JM Eagle LA Championship for the second straight year, holing out twice from off the greens in a pivotal back-nine stretch at challenging Whilshire Country Club.

A year after making a 25-foot birdie on the final hole of regulation and winning on the second hole of a playoff, Green — with help from Maja Stark — took the late drama out of this one for her fifth LPGA Tour victory and second of the year.

"It's really kind to me," the 27-year-old Australian said about the course. "I felt like a couple times today I almost got like a member bounce."

Green closed with a 5-under 66 to beat Stark by three strokes in the 72-hole tournament. Also the winner early last month in Singapore, Green finished at 12-under 272 on the tree-lined layout with poa annua greens that become bumpy late in the day.

Green began the key run with a chip-in birdie on the par-3 12th and made a six-foot birdie putt on the par-5 13th. Then, after Stark bogeyed the par-4 16th two groups ahead, Green ran in a 25-footer for eagle from the fringe on 15 to open a four-stroke lead, and she made it 5 under in five holes with a birdie on 16.

Stark finished with a 68, rebounding from the bogey on 16 with birdies on the final two holes. The 24-year-old Swede also finished second a week earlier in the Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year.

Haeran Ryu (69) was third at 6 under on Sunday, followed by fellow South Korean players Jin Young Ko (67) and Jin Hee Im (72) at 5 under.

Steele strong enough

ADELAIDE, Australia — Brendan Steele held off a fast-finishing Louis Oosthuizen to win the LIV Golf League's Adelaide tournament at the Grange Golf Club by one stoke.

The 41-year-old American closed with a 4-under-par 68 for a 54-hole total of 18-under 198 to earn his first victory since October 2017, when he won the PGA Tour's Safeway Open for the second year in a row. Those two triumphs came well after his first win on the PGA Tour at the 2011 Texas Open.

Steele had a streak of five consecutive birdies early in the final round in Adelaide before some putting jitters appeared during his final nine holes to open the door for a pack of challengers, including 2010 British Open winner Oosthuizen of South Afria, who closed with a 65, and former Masters champions Charl Schwartzel and Jon Rahm, who each had a 64.

Some clutch pars helped Steele secure the win and a $4 million payday.

Rahm — who had an eagle and six birdies on Sunday — Schwartzel, Dean Burgmester (67), Joaquin Niemann (66) and Andy Ogletree (65) tied for third at 16 under.

The Australian roster of Ripper GC, captained by local favorite Cameron Smith and with Lucas Herbert, Matt Jones and Marc Leishman also competing, won the team format on the second playoff hole against the South African-based Stingers GC, much to the delight of another large and boisterous crowd at the course.

Very happy birthday

DULUTH, Ga. — Stephen Ames celebrated his 60th birthday by repeating as the winner of the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, closing with a 5-under 67 for his eighth PGA Tour Champions victory.

A stroke behind Paul Broadhurst after matching the tournament record Saturday with a 64, Ames had two eagles in the final round of the 54-hole event. He won by four strokes, finishing at 14-under 202 at TPC Sugarloaf for a record-setting third triumph in the tournament.

Broadhurst, the 58-year-old Englishman coming off a victory last week in the Invited Celebrity Classic, closed with a 72 to tie for second with Doug Barron (69). K.J. Choi (70) and Steven Alker (71) tied for fourth at 9 under.

Ames became the first player this year with multiple victories on the 50-and-older circuit, having also won at the Chubb Classic in February. He has six victories in his past 29 starts after winning twice in his first 175 — the first was at TPC Sugarloaf in 2017 — on the senior tour.

Ames, a naturalized Canadian citizen from Trinidad and Tobago, won four times on the PGA Tour.

Japanese success

GOTEMBA, Japan — Yuto Katsuragawa began the back nine with five birdies in seven holes that carried him to a 7-under 63 and a three-shot victory at 17-under 263 in the 72-hole ISPS Handa Championship, with the 25-year-old becoming the third Japanese player this year to win on the Europe-based DP World Tour

The tournament was co-sanctioned with the Japan Golf Tour. Katsuragawa follows Rikuya Hoshino at the Qatar Masters and Keita Nakajima in the Indian Open as Japanese winners on the DP World Tour in 2024. A year ago, Ryo Hisatsune won the French Open.

Katsuragawa started the final round three shots out of the lead, but he got into the mix when 54-hole leader Casey Jarvis and Yannik Paul, who was one stroke behind Jarvis, faltered on the front nine. Katsuragawa pulled away and won by three over Sweden's Sebastian Soderberg, who had a 67.
