6.7 in an 05' Excursion

excursion body swap

  • Add to quote

Im working on a special shop project, and have been searching high and low for any info yet can't find anything? Now Im wondering if its ever been done, and if so has anyone on here done it or has any insight on it working.. Or how intense would it b to swap the full drivetrain and suspension on this Freak build we have up our sleeves...?? ANY good info or insight would b greatly appreciated before we just go into this 1 blind!? LOL

excursion body swap

Never heard of anyone doing it. You'd need alot of fabricating. Good luck I'd like to see this done

excursion body swap

You'll need a lot of fabricating. And that's the easy part. Getting the electronics to work is going to be a nightmare.

LOL Its deff goin to happen this year... Now I assume were talking fab work for motor, trans and Tcase mounts... Along with the front and rear axels & suspension components..... Or HOPEFULLY jus the motor and trans parts...?? I haven't pick u the Excursion yet, but I will have it in shop by the end of the week!! So I haven't been able to put them side by side on the ground and u i the air yet... Thats why I was wondering if its even been done yet, or any1 on here has seen it 1st hand..? But as this special project comes along I plan on doing a good build thread goin thru what all is being done step by step!!!? I was hoping I wasn't going to b the test rat on this 1.... LOLOLOL

I have made uo my mind… I will b putting a 6.7l engine, drivetrain and full 350 suspension in an Excursion.. I want to take it to another level and get the locking rear diff as well!! Now I'm thinking I should be able to get away with getting a 2wd, even gasser Excursion at this point since its ALL being ripped out and swapped..!! I won't to kno any1 else's opinion on the idea of starting with a very basic excursion and making it into my vision I see…?? I also want to integrate the dash and interior of the later model Super Dutys in this build also….

It has been done many times now. There are even a few high end builders that are building 6.7 excursions to sell. Most have put the excursion body on a newer chassis I think. I have also seen a video of a 6.7 swapped into an older 7.3 super duty. I want too put a 6.7 in an OBS but too many projects not enough time.

Unfortunately we won't b the first that did it then… But I can't seem 2 find ANYTHING on the inter web about any1 thats done this swap!!?? But Im using my 2000 2WD Excursion for it… We are jus starting to get everything together first so we I'm not left with my **** in my hands at a certain point!! LOL Im jus really hoping that I can fit the whole 6.7 power/drivetrain and all the electronics in there..? Only thing I need as of now is the bracket kit for the front end conversion… I do plan on starting a build log on this 1 as soon as we pull the excursion body off her frame!! Hoping to have this build completed by end of july at latest!!?? Im also completely gutting the interior and redoing it to my likings and want to add in all the ammonites I can!!? Deff want to intergrate a cooler in there somewhere…. iPad pro in the dash, and iPad mini mounts in back of each headrest, along with a complete repaint and custom 2 tone suede and leather inside..

excursion body swap

So the build thread I seen over on the org. He got a excursion and cut across the top of the roof in just behind the windshield and cut the floor pan right by the b pillar. Then cut the frame. Then get a 11+ truck and cut it the same. Then weld the 11+ front half to the excursion back half.

Im strting ti think that cutting the front rnf off of the 6.7 donor, and the front end of the excursions will make my life lil bit easier and jus weld them together!? I figured its going to cut off a lot of time and man hours.. Plus it will already have all the needed mounts for engine and suspension already in the correct positions!?? Not to mention the electronics inside, to marry them with the excursion BCM is goin to B well... a task to say the least!!! lol And all the other quirks and tricks included!!! LOL I guess wee will b finding out real!!!??? LOL

Ford Excursion Coil Spring Conversion

How to upgrade your Ford Excursion's suspension to the F250 Coil Spring setup.

Every off-roading enthusiast knows a vehicle's suspension system is crucial in providing a comfortable and safe ride, particularly when driving on rough terrain. The suspension system absorbs shocks and vibrations, reduces body roll, and keeps the wheels in contact with the ground while improving traction and stability.

In this article, we'll take a closer look at the 2000-2005 Ford Excursion coil spring conversion process along with a detailed description and the benefits of doing so, as well as examples from one of our own projects involving a 2000 Ford Excursion Limited.

Why upgrade your Excursion to Coil Spring suspension?

The Ford Excursion is a heavy-duty SUV built to tow and haul heavy loads. However, its suspension system is designed for on-road use and requires more to be suitable for true off-road driving. Upgrading to a later model F250 coil spring suspension can significantly improve its capability and provide several benefits for daily driving, towing, and especially off-road performance. So, when it comes to the 2000-2005 model Excursion, you may want to consider upgrading your suspension to a more robust, battle-tested setup such as the popular later model F250 coil spring conversion, which uses critical components such as radius arm suspension to provide better ride quality, improved steering, and superior ground clearance capability. All that said, here are some of the benefits you get from this upgrade:

  • Improved ride quality: With its advanced coil-spring system, the suspension setup of the F250 offers better control over bumps and vibrations, resulting in superior ride quality and comfort compared to the original suspension of the Excursion.
  • Increased ground clearance: The F250 coil spring suspension provides increased ground clearance compared to the original Excursion suspension, allowing the vehicle to clear obstacles with greater ease and reducing the risk of getting hung up on rocks, roots, or other barriers.
  • Better off-road performance: By utilizing more robust and durable components, the improved stability, traction, and handling of the coil spring system used in the F250 suspension setup provide better off-road performance through increased suspension articulation than the original leaf suspension of the Excursion.
  • More customization options: Upgrading to the F250 coil spring setup provides more customization opportunities for Excursion owners. Also, many aftermarket upgrades are available for the F250 suspension that can improve performance and give greater adjustability.
  • Improved towing capacity: Designed for heavy-duty use, the suspension setup of the F250 is an excellent upgrade for Excursion owners who need to tow heavy loads or trailers, as it can easily result in improved towing capability.
  • Better Turning Radius: The later model F250 has an increased turning radius ability resulting in more agile off road performance and increased ability to fit in stubbornly tight parking spaces.

How to install Coil Springs on your Excursion

Converting a 2000-2005 Ford Excursion to a coil-spring suspension involves:

  • Removing the original suspension.
  • Preparing the frame.
  • Installing the new coil-spring suspension components of the drivetrain and steering system.
  • Aligning and testing the vehicle.

This process significantly improves the Excursion's off-road capabilities and overall on-road and off-road performance. However, it is complex, and we always recommend having the procedure done by a qualified off-road shop.

Here is a basic outline of the Coil conversion:

  • Remove the old suspension system - The first step in upgrading your suspension is to remove the old system by removing the front axle assembly, leaf springs, track bar bracket, and shocks.
  • Next, install a later model F250 coil spring and radius arm suspension system. This system is an improvement over the Excursion's original suspension system because it provides better ride quality and increases the ability of the suspension to articulate and increase traction when going over obstacles or rough terrain, making it more suitable for off-road driving.
  • Upgrade steering components - Upgrading the steering components is also necessary when upgrading the suspension by installing later model f250 steering linkage or upgraded aftermarket linkage such as PMF Suspension or Synergy Suspension and or single/dual stabilizers based on desired usage and tire size. These upgrades improve steering response and reduce the risk of damage to the steering system during off-road driving.
  • Replace the drivetrain components - When upgrading the suspension system, it's also a good idea to upgrade drivetrain components such as axles, differentials, and driveshaft to ensure the entire system is solid and reliable for driving off-road.
  • Install aftermarket parts - Aftermarket parts can also be added to the suspension and steering system to improve performance. These can include longer shocks, adjustable sway bars, and upgraded control arms. Such upgrades can provide even better stability, suspension travel, and ground clearance.

Our very own Excursion Coil Spring Conversion

At Adrenaline Offroad Co., we recently had the opportunity to perform a complete coil spring conversion on a customer's 2000 Ford Excursion. This was an exciting project for us, as we love nothing more than taking on a challenge and seeing the transformation of a vehicle for optimal performance, especially the beloved Ford Excursion.

To begin the project, we started by searching for a donor chassis that would provide us with all the necessary components for the conversion. This makes the process much easier, as it can be time-consuming to source individual parts and, most importantly, save some downtime for our customer. Of course, after some searching, we found a 2007 F250 4wd bare rolling chassis that was a perfect fit for the job.

Once we had the new chassis, we disassembled the donor frame and sent the usable pieces out for blasting. Once everything was cleaned up, we refinished the axle housings and began rebuilding both front and rear differentials with Detroit Truetrac carriers, a new Motivegear master bearing kit, and a 3:73 ring and pinion for each to start fresh from any previous wear.

Next, we shifted focus to the front components and added Ford Motorcraft OEM ball joints to the suspension for optimal performance and a Timken wheel bearing/hub assembly with a set of Warn premium sleek black super-duty locking hubs to provide the extra grip. Of course, this also included replacing all seals and bearings as a precautionary measure, as always.

When it came to stopping power, we added a Power Stop Z-36 Truck and Tow performance brake kit to ensure that the Excursion would stop on a dime. This included drilled and slotted rotors, performance brake pads, and new red powder-coated caliper assemblies with a nice Russell stainless steel brake hose kit as a bonus.

For the actual coils and suspension, we chose to go with Icon dual rate 4.5" lift coils with new F250 05-07 Ford OEM spring retainers/buckets (because the PMF version looked too boxy) and a set of ATS leaf springs with Sulastic shackles in the back to increase rear suspension ride quality.

However, when it came to steering components, we utilized several PMF products (per customer request), including a 2004-16 F250/350 adjustable track bar, 4.5" drop bracket, 05-22 Superduty adjustable link arms, and 05-16 F250/250 heavy-duty (stock height) replacement radius arm mounts.

To assist with steering, we added a PMF 05-22 Superduty HD tie rod bar, PMF 05-22 Superduty single-piece drag link, and PSC Motorsports steering box (due to the variant in the sector shaft spline count and size required by the new suspension geometry and prevent bump steer). Lastly, we installed a PMF dual steering stabilizer bracket paired with Bilstein 5100 series stabilizers to dampen the road impact and smooth the steering.

Finally, when it came to altering the frame, we welded in a custom threaded bung we fabricated to accept the (new) later model PMF track bar bracket. This was necessary due to the curvature of the 99-04 frame configuration and the original track bar bracket mounting being different from the new track bar bracket requirements.

Overall, this project was exciting for both our team and our customer. The transformation of this Ford Excursion was impressive, and our customer was amazed at the increased ride quality and turning radius. At Adrenaline Offroad Co., we constantly strive to push boundaries and attain new levels of performance for our clients, and like on all projects, this project was no different.

'99-'04 Excursion/ Super Duty 2x4 to 4x4 conversion questions.

excursion body swap

  • Add to quote

I've done some searching, and this really has not been covered in depth. Everybody chooses to write this question off as "easier to buy a 4x4", "cheaper to buy a 4x4". I don't want to hear that. That has no bearing on this topic. The basic (and rhetorical) question is simple, what needs to be done to make a 2 wheel drive Excursion or Super Duty into a 4 wheel drive? Obviously the vehicle needs a transfer case, a front drive shaft, and a front axle. Preferably a Dana 60. I feel it is also obvious that the truck needs the twin I beam front suspension removed, and either a leaf spring or coil spring/coil over with radius arms or 4 links installed to locate and cycle the front axle. For our purposes here, I prefer to focus on the Excursion, and the leaf spring front suspension, mainly because it is what came stock under them. The specific questions are the ones I am concerned with, and here they come: -Is the radius arm mount on the two wheel drive vehicles in the same location as the rear leaf spring/ spring shackle mount on the four wheel drive? -Is the above mount the same mount as the leaf spring/ shackle mount? -Are there holes in place on the two wheel drive frames for the front leaf spring mounts? -Does the two wheel drive automatic transmission have a removable tail housing that would allow installation of a four wheel drive tail shaft and transfer case? -Are there any significant differences in component placement beneath a two wheel drive Excursion that would inhibit the installation of a front driveshaft, transfer case, or front axle (aside from the front suspension)? -I know the Excursion four wheel drive uses a track bar to help locate the axle. I have read that the track bar is not needed. All the same, are there bolt holes in the frame for this track bar mount? These are the basic "how hard is it" questions I need to know regarding this job. I would be posting answers to these questions, the only problem is I do not have access to either a two wheel drive or four wheel drive of this era. Your help is appreciated immensely on this matter. I feel like it is important to document this. My thought process is simple; people that buy two wheel drive Super Dutys and more importantly Excursions are typically older folks (at least around here). These trucks typically pull travel trailers, or horse trailers, boats and the like. They are typically in better shape, with less miles, for less money than a similarly equipped 4x4. In the case of the Excursions, you are talking a BIG difference in cost. Big enough that you could almost PAY somebody to do the conversion for you, and still be money ahead. My thought process is, why pay more for a 4x4, when I am going to swap in a D60, at least a 4" lift, better shocks, etc anyways. Thanks in advance guys.

1. No further forward, whole in frame further forward under body mount is for the shackle mount. 2. no 3. yes 4. yes you can find parts on ebay 5. no 6. yes you need a track bar I have done this conversion with 99-04 axles and 05+ axles. I would look into doing the swap with 05+ axles far better setup for the work involved.

redpitbull44;13415905 -Is the radius arm mount on the two wheel drive vehicles in the same location as the rear leaf spring/ spring shackle mount on the four wheel drive? -Is the above mount the same mount as the leaf spring/ shackle mount? Build your own radius arms and they will

Bringing this back up because I've found one (2wd) that I might buy. I really think I am just going to do leaf springs, but ya never know. I need some more insight here. I have done solid axle swaps before. What is a fair price on a set of 99-04 Super Duty D60/10.5 axles vs their 05+ coil sprung counterparts? I honestly want this to be as close to factory as possible. As close to bolt on/ drop in as I can make it. I don't have the time for it to be down for a week or something while I find time in my schedule to wrench on it. I guestimate I could have all the IFS garbage out and live axle in in about 8 hrs with help. Also, I am wondering about transmission stuff. On the auto tranny, can a guy just remove the tail housing and install a transfer case, or do I need a new transmission as well. What has to be done?

hit up http://www.statewidelist.com/ and search illinois. i know i just saw a bunch of ads from some guy who was parting out some super duties. iirc he was asking $600 for a s/d d60. problem is all those bastids also think 4-500 is a fair price for a stock 10.5'' :shaking: saw some d50's too if it comes down to it.

If it comes down to it I can re-gear the rear for that. I don't know man. I have one guy with that Durango I posted about in GCC that seems like a good way to go. I am trying not to spend too much money here.

never got a reply on it. wanted a bronco to be honest, just couldn't find one. i had a pretty sweet 85 f150 in h/s and saw this rust free hunk of shit on c/l in my price range so i snagged it. fawked up part is the cool as shit old dude that owned it actually has an 80-86 bronco with a bad timing chain that i'm most likely buying next weekend. body is a little rough but i may end up swapping the lift and shit over to the bho if it ain't too horrible. otherwise i'ma strip everything i need or can use as spares and junk the bho.

I want to add some questions to this, as I am thinking of converting a F-350 as well. 1. Can the 2wd pitman arm be reused with the 4wd draglink(tierod?) 2. Do I need to change the VSS? Isn't it on the transfer case for the 4wd? Is is just on the tail shaft of the 2wd? Can the same computer be used? 3. Sway bar? Thing of any thing you can add to this list: Front axle Leaf springs Rear Shackle Front Leaf Mount U-bolts Sway Bar & Mounts Track Bar & Mounts Drag Link Tie Rod Pitman Arm? I dont know if this project was abandoned or not but if you buy a factory service manual for the 2wd Excursion/SD you buy you will have all of the info you need on a factory 4wd setup for your application, that matches the year model you buy. FSM are the best guide you can obtain. They are full of exploded diagrams of every component.

The superduty has a sort of detachable front frame section. If you have a donor truck you can swap the whole front frame over. Saw a thread where someone did that. Not really necessary. I'd go 05 and radius arms if I was doing it. Dana 50's were stock under an excursion and they fetch maybe $200 here so you could definitely get it done on the cheap.

So YOU would rather take about the frame section? So instead of a quick axle swap you would rather mess around with engine, body, electric, brake lines, steering shafts, And whatever else I can't think of at the moment? I can assure you the front axle can be swapped in a few hours and is a lot easier to do than swapping the front frame section. Now I will agree to buying the whole front section out of a junkyard or whatever will be a big advantage, But no way in hell is swapping that section to the truck easier nor faster.

excursion body swap

Christ how much time did you waste looking and replying to a 2 year old posts... detachable front frame section....really:shaking:

Im glad someone dug this old thread up. I have a 2wd Excursion (forsale) but I also have the front cross member, shackles and transfer case crossmember, trac bar and rear driveshaft from when I want big on my 4wd Excursion. So all I need is the front axle, springs (which I can get for $50) and steering. Then find a tcase and front DS

I know this is a 5 year old post but Family_TJ you don't happen to still have the 4x4 stuff from your excursion do you?

Ok, So... Are the radius arm mounts and coil buckets in the same location from the 2x4 truck/excursion and the '05+ 4x4's? Is it a "bolt in swap"?

:grinpimp: Wow.

You can swap them. You basically will be swapping all of the wiring from the diesel to the gas body. This includes the dash. You can swap all of the parts of the dash between the 2 if there is a color difference, it will just take more time. Depending on if you will still use your original frame or not, you will need to swap all of the wiring and fuel lines on it as well. Not crazy hard to do as long as you have a lift to pick up the bodies and time. That is the hardest part of the swap is the time to strip both bodies down and put one back together.

I want to tell you, I made the decision to send my new to me 04 Excursion out to DIESEL CONVERSION SPECIALIST in MT. The reason for doing this was simple, I bought the cleanest Excursion I have seen anywhere, with every single option on the truck working like new. But it had a 6.0 Engine that just needed to much attention. The conversion is all most done, and the guys out there have done an AMAZING job. the truck is getting buttoned up and should be out of the shop for road trials by the end of tomorrow. I can not say enough GOOD things about how clean a job they have done. I started another thread, but thought I would save it all for when the truck was home sitting in my drive. Then I will do a full write up and review. As of right now, these guys are a five star class out fit !!!!

That's awesome. Sounds like it's been relatively smooth. If you don't mind my asking, as I'm sure that's on everybody's mind, what did it set you back? Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App

Thanks for the comment, it really has been done well and I will provide a pjoto thread of the swap when the truck is back. As far as the cost, I have never found it wise to discuss money or cost on the internet. If you want to know call the shop. 406-755-8878

I understand. Looking forward to final pictures and how you like it.

excursion body swap

why? I really don't understand this swap. I'm betting you are at least $10k into the swap by paying a shop...and you really didn't gain anything. Honestly, a betting man would speculate you are $15-20,000 into this swap. That's a lot of dough...about 4x the cost of repairing and "Bulletproofing" a 6.0 anyways, I like to see truck porn as much as the next guy. Subscribing for pics

Hey Man, To each his own….. I love the truck, nothing better than a Super clean Ford Excursion…. But you can all have the 6.0 LOL

excursion body swap

In for the pictures. But I love my 6.0L. Then again, I'm not stock.

excursion body swap

I called a local shop that specializes in Cummins work to inquire about this swap. I was told expect to start at $15k and go up. Given that for $3500 you can fix the major failures of the 6.0 I decided to stay with my Powerstroke. Also, I worked for a national automotive tire and service shop for about a year and a half. One of my techs there had been a diesel tech for many years, both in Europe and the US before working there. I asked his opinion before purchasing my truck. Although some of the reply was in German (his cursing is most fluent in German) he told me to stick with the Powerstroke or buy a gas motor. The reality is that ALL engines/transmissions/drivetrain components have problems. A quick google search for 'Cummins KDP' returned 339k hits. 'Duramax warped heads' returned 198k hits. For my part, I'll buy the truck I like, fix the known issues, and keep a bit in the bank for when Murphy bites me in the ***. The old saw really is right; if it has tits or wheels it's going to cost you. But as it's not costing me anything, I am curious to see the results.

Ford Settles Class-Action Suits Over 2003-2007 Navistar Diesels - PickupTrucks.com News This will get you started

FORD 6.0L POWER STROKE PROBLEMS : Performance Wise Oh come on !!!! This is what your defending LOL !!!

http://m.*************.com/showthread.php?t=47079&styleid=10 I google problems w/ 03 24 valve cummins this was one of the first things to come up If you read it it looks like , lift pump number one answer Good thing my swap included a new FASS lift pump !!! The blanked out part says Diesel bombers

We get it! You're a Cummins fanboy with way too much money burning a hole in pocket To each his own. I've had the 6.0 and it was an amazing motor. Anyways: What year Cummins are you using. 12v or 24v? Ford Trans (4R100 or 5R110) or using a Dodge trans with commander?

Bottom line is it's your truck, if you wanted to put a series of hamsters turning wheels to keep the tires spinning then what should we care? I think it's a cool project, definitely fun to look at and read about. I think we get wrapped up in Powerstroke vs Cummins and Duramax too much, I'm just happy to see other diesels driving down the road. Also, even if you spend $25k on the swap, and say $15k on the truck initially, you're $40k into a vehicle that is now just about brand new, and you simply can't buy a vehicle like the Excursion these days. If you could it would be $50k+ easily. I like the Cummins, just can't stand everything that surrounds them, I think Dodges are ugly. Enjoy the new truck!

head in the sand? hardly man. It's called practicality. I can spend $3-5,000 and 100% bulletproof a 6.0 motor. It'd be practically brand new with seals/gaskets and deleted/studded. That would include a upgraded FICM and the updated o-rings and internal fittings. Also would include a turbo swap/rebuild. Done! For some fun, I'd install a SRL tune and drive it for a long freaking time. or spend at least $15,000 for the Cummins swap. And that is being generous on costs. The Fummins guys charge around $10-15,000 for labor and that is with you providing the motor. So say another $3-4,000 for a good condition 12v Cummins motor. We haven't even talked about the trans yet for all that reliability you wanted, you should have just bought a V-10 and called it a day. I can do GoogleFu with you all day about motor issues and whatnot. I no longer have a 6.0 because my F-250 wasn't big enough. I have 4 children myself and the Excursion is how I solved the space issue . I searched for months and couldn't find a PSD powered X in any form, be it 7.3 or 6.0. Could care less which motor, just wanted an oil burner. Had to "settle" for the V-10. And to be fair, the V-10 is rather nice as well :wink[3]: anyways, back to your topic. shall we agree to disagree? :icon_ford: could you post the specs on the questions I asked in previous post? It's always interesting to see how people approach the swap itself. Many use the adapters from Fummins...but some do some really ingenious stuff. From what I've read, the 5R110 trans you currently have is pretty much impossible to use with the Cummins motor. Which is a true shame because the 5R110 is probably the best trans IMO that Ford has ever made and has been known to hold up behind real power house 6.0 and 6.4 motors with 500+ HP and 1,000+ TQ.

excursion body swap

From what I have been reading they have the 5R110 trans tuning nailed down for a Cummin Swap.

Good to know! Im kicking this idea around right now. Ever look at this Cummins High Mileage Pretty impressive!!

I have seen that !! Maybe I can register this new rig??? I googled ford million mile club…………………………………………….Wait for it…… They don't have one ……………………. LOL LOL LOL LOL JUST KIDDING !!!! I didn't google it …. P.S one of the best trucks I ever bought was a 2000 f 250 with a 7.3 i put 208,000 miles of flawless driving on that truck…. Sold it to a friend of mine and still to this day see him driving it !!!

Here is a little look….

Engine Auto part Vehicle Motor vehicle Car

John, the amount of 5.9's on that list is staggering…

It is! and I also looked for 6.0 million mile club, doesnt exist! I did find a something on 7.3's. I talked to a guy here in Mississippi and he was around 600k on a 5.9. No issues other than some kind of injector seal and I a new radiator. By the way this guy hauls cargo back and fourth across the country at a min load of 18k. Plain and simple fact the 6.0 hauls *** but it just isnt as reliable as the Cummins.

Nice swap man! But back to bulletproofing a 6.0.. 4 grand is honestly more than what it would take bulletproof, I ended up paying 2k for studs and delete. My father's 04 had 248k miles on it before the EGR cooler failed, He ended up putting 4500 in and has studs, gaskets, new HPOP, Oil cooler, delete, plugs, injectors, fuel pump, batmowheel and other stuff I'm drawing a blank on. Don't get me wrong that is an awesome swap man, I'd imagine it is really fun to drive and all that but the 6.0 isn't as terrible of a motor as you make it sound. Yeah i'll agree had major issues, but once it's addressed i'd take it over any other diesel. But saying that a Fummins is always cool, and in an Excursion.. Makes it even cooler man. Atleast you stuck with Ford, Glad it worked out for you and your family!

excursion body swap

why beat a dead horse? we know how much it costs to bullet proof a 6.0, we know the problems they have if not addressed, but the project is already done. why the negativity? the guy built a rig exactly like he wanted so give him a pat on the back. badass rig, excited to see some more pics/ videos

Hey , APR studs are $500-1000 depending on kit A bullet proof remote oil cooler is 2 grand I'm at 2500 I haven't even paid shipping to get it here Mine needed sticks, too , trust me I looked into it I think your all coming in to low. Anyway, thanks man, the cummins is amazing and it could not be in a better truck !! LOL LOL LOL .......

Dental Work: 2016 Super Duty Front-End Swap on an Early Excursion

Most custom trucks have plans that are laid out from the beginning, following a very specific plan of attack. A particular model gets picked out, a set of parts is ordered, with paint and body being part of the equation. Sometimes the inspiration for a custom build comes from an unlikely source. This ’01 Excursion started life as a boring, no-plans-for-custom family truckster that was performing its exact duty when the unlikely, or unlucky, struck.

Jeff Davy of Devious Customs was driving the Excursion down a stretch of Southern California highway heading toward a family outing, when an unplanned meeting between him and a fellow motorist put a huge dent in his plans for a day of fun with the wife and kiddos. The Excursion was put out of commission temporarily, and as luck would have it, Davy runs a very successful and very creative custom shop in Riverside, California. As he and the Devious Crew were at work creating custom cars and trucks as they normally do, the idea struck him to make the daily driver into one that would turn heads. Why just fix something back to stock when you can trick it out with a new front-end swap?

The idea quickly took shape. He would take the solid lines and subtle toughness of this single-generation SUV and bring it up to date with the addition of a ’11-’16 Ford Super Duty grille, fenders and hood. The daily driver and kid transporter with the strength and underpinnings of an F-250 would be given a new look, becoming the SUV that should’ve been had the model continued up until this day. As the head of a custom shop that does these kinds of projects on a daily basis, Davy was about to cut and create all the adapter-type bracketry himself, but time got away from him. But he was able to easily find one that suited his purpose online.

Readers of Truckin may remember this Excursion from a recent issue when it received the first step of its transformation—a 6-inch Fabtech lift. There are still more plans after this point for more exterior upgrades but that will come later. Follow along as we spend another day at Devious Customs while they take their project-in-progress ’01 Ford Excursion and swap in a ’11-’16 Super Duty grille, front fenders, and hood to give it that extra custom look.

excursion body swap

1. When we last left this Excursion, it had just been fitted with a 6-inch lift from Fabtech, 20-inch wheels from SOTA, and 37-inch Grabbers from General Tire making this big grocery-getter significantly bigger. Now it was ready to go through its exterior transformation and be given the ’11-‘16 Super Duty treatment, refreshing its look while still keeping the functionality it was designed for.

excursion body swap

2. This is what prompted the all-around teardown and transformation. An accident on the road had sidelined the Excursion with damage to the hood, bumper, and all but smashing the grille. Rather than purchase replacement panels and make this people mover exactly the same as before, Davy decided to go all the way with it and do a major front-end update.

Find a car near you

3. We started the teardown by unbolting the hood. The Devious Crew had that removed in no time, and the pile of panels that would be scrapped had started. Take careful note where the hood support strut-mounting points are located on the fenders. They would be addressed in a later step.

excursion body swap

4. To attempt a swap like this one, the entire front clip had to be dismantled. With the hood removed, they started on the fenders, removed the grille, and bumper. With the ’11-’16 Super Duty components being swapped in, however, it was not as simple as unbolting the old and installing the new.

excursion body swap

5. Continuing with the teardown process, the factory running boards were stripped off with the removal of the eight mounting bolts on either side. Currently, there are no plans for replacing the steps, but something cool could pop up in the future.

excursion body swap

6. Because the swap would encompass the front third of the Excursion, the conversion went all the way back to the wiper cowl and to the hinges for the hood. The ’11-’16 edition uses a different set of hinges, and those were ordered in advance of the transformation.

excursion body swap

7. One of Devious’s top body men Tim can be seen here modifying the new hood hinges to fit onto the factory inner structure. He had to reshape a bolthole on the mounting bracket of the hinges to make them fit, and had to do so on both hinges. The cuts for a swap like this have to be precise to make the hood sit right and have the gaps look factory. So measure twice, cut once.

excursion body swap

8. After all the shaving had taken place, the hood hinges were installed. It’s imperative the hood is set correctly as is the main area that the fenders and grille would have their gaps measured off of. No pressure here!

excursion body swap

9. On a swap of this nature, there are a multitude of areas that need to be chopped and shaved to make the new parts fit. To get the new fender to fit, Tim had to cut the upper factory fender-mounting tab on both the driver and passenger side with an air cutoff wheel.

excursion body swap

10. A section of the inner stricture had to be shaved off, this time on the core support, to make fitment of the new fenders possible. This area of the inner structure would push the new fender out too far and prevent the fender from aligning around the headlights and sitting properly next to the hood.

excursion body swap

11. Here is the aftermath of the cut on the inner structure. About 8 inches of the inner structure had to be removed on both the driver and passenger side. The ’11-’16 fenders would now be able to fit over the structure and align with the headlight correctly.

excursion body swap

12. Before the various bracketry could be fit to the core support that gives mounting points for the new hood adjustment bumpers, we drilled nutserts in on the driver’s and passenger side of the core support. Nutserts are super handy and easily install just like a rivet to provide our brackets a place to solidly bolt in.

excursion body swap

13. With our nutserts firmly in place, we went ahead and installed the brackets that would be holding our new grille in place.

excursion body swap

14. One of the only front-end parts that will be reused is the hood latch. It bolts right back into where it was removed, and luckily for this build, was one of the few components Ford did not redesign.

excursion body swap

15. The headlights for the ’11-’16 Super Duty are of a different size and shape than what our ’01 Excursion was designed for, which required us to cut out a larger pocket for the new lights.

excursion body swap

16. The new fenders required us to cut off the old upper mounting tab. Here, the Devious Crew is drilling new holes for nutserts to be used to mount the upper bracket of the fenders. The door had to be opened, and a sheet of cardboard was used to protect the paint.

excursion body swap

17. The lower fender-mounting bracket was now in the wrong spot for the new fender and had to be removed. Here, Tim is screwing some self-tapping screws to mount the fender bracket, which will in turn receive a nutsert to mount the new fender.

excursion body swap

18. The fender is now set onto the newly created bracket that will lock it into place. The gap seen here is from the open driver’s door. The lower fender mount will then be tightened and the gaps adjusted before the fender gets locked down for good.

excursion body swap

19. The driver’s side fender was mounted up but still loose to be adjusted for proper gap width. Although the project is far from done, seeing it mocked up like this gave a sense of how it’ll look when done. The various brackets are now in place to hold the grille and for the hood adjustment bumpers.

excursion body swap

20. With both fenders now installed, Devious turned their attention to the hood and found a new wrinkle. The hood strut mounts had to be relocated, which caused a fair amount of head scratching. They were eventually welded the mounts to the new bracket running along the inner structure.

excursion body swap

21. This install may look like a series of haphazard cuts and best guesses, but these modifications are measured and absolutely necessary to properly fit the new pieces against the old body. Here, we shaved the top half of the frame horns to make the fitment of the new grille possible. The geometry changed so much, these cuts had to be made.

excursion body swap

22. The modified frame horns will now be able to accept the ’11-‘16 grille support bracket purchased for this build. But in order to fit the support bracket to our ’01 Excursion, the sawzall came out and changes had to be made.

excursion body swap

23. After measuring the bracket against its new mounting points, the initial cut was made. When the bracket was fit over the top of the frame horns and tucked under the core support, we discovered another cut had to be made. So goes it in the custom world! The headlights were placed in their new pockets but not installed in order to gap everything.

excursion body swap

24. These brackets are designed to tie the headlights, core support, and the grille support bracket together, and also provide a mounting point for the headlights. More holes were drilled and more nutserts installed to mate the three areas and provide stability.

excursion body swap

25. Even though we mocked up the headlights position, we found once the brackets from the previous step were installed, the lights stuck out a little too far. So, we had to go back to the cut off and make a few more adjustments to the headlight bucket.

excursion body swap

26. With the headlights mounted, the hood and fenders properly gapped, it was time to mount the grille. It slid over the new brackets like the two were made from the factory that way.

excursion body swap

27. As they did before with the hood and fenders, the Devious installers had to adjust the bumper a little to get it to sit right. It was then aligned to sit properly with the newly installed sheetmetal. All the previous steps led up to this point, and it’s really easy to get out of alignment at any of the previous cuts or drill points. Absolute precision is vital through the whole process.

excursion body swap

28. We were that much closer to a finished product, and all that was left was this big beefy bumper from Tough Country. We were going to fit it, but it was left in its raw state to be coated at a later stage in the build process.

excursion body swap

29. The bumper itself came with these equally beefy mounting brackets, which were then bolted to the recently altered frame horns. The grille support bracket can just barely be seen above the brackets. The old tried-and-true method of putting a carefully measured gap tool, this time it was some wood wrapped in tape, holds the measurement without having to keep busting out the ruler.

excursion body swap

30. Our behemoth Tough Country bumper was hoisted up into place using a floor jack and was mounted up by the Devious crew. The grille was still left loose and taped down to be held in place until the bumper could be fit properly and the final adjustments between the two made.

excursion body swap

31. The headlights, bumper, and door handles were removed, so our nearly there ’01 Excursion could be wrapped. The transformation was entering the final stages. The lift was complete, it got a new set of wheels and tires, and we have just installed the ’11-’16 grille, hood, and fenders. The rest of the exterior will be addressed, and this build will be ready to rock the roads of So Cal like never before. So, stay tuned to see the final form of our SUV that should have been.

The Best Things to Do in Nizhny Novgorod

Chkalovskaya Lestnica

Nizhny Novgorod, founded in 1221, is one of the oldest cities in Russia, so is home to an array of historic attractions. If you’re headed to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and happen to find yourself in Nizhny Novgorod, it would be an absolute shame to miss out on seeing the city. Here are the best things to see and do.

Go back in time on bolshaya pokrovskaya.

If you’re a fan of the Golden Age of Russian literature, Bolshaya Pokrovskaya is the place for you to go. As one of the city’s central streets, long lines of well-preserved 19th-century buildings stretch along both sides. It’s not only the architecture that will transport you back in time: sculptures of past inhabitants of the town, each with a story to tell, will make you feel as if you were a character in a Dostoevsky novel.

In a district just outside the city centre you’ll find a very special monument dedicated to Gromozeka, a well-loved character from a sci-fi Soviet cartoon. Gromozeka, whose metal sculpture can now be found on the playground in Nizhny Novgorod, was a friendly alien archaeologist from a far-away planet called Chumaroz. A few benches around the monument are hidden in what look like USSR space helmets. A must-see for all the space geeks out there.

Districts [ edit ]

The city is divided by the River Oka into two major parts: the Upper city ( Verkhnyaya or Nagornaya chast ) on the hilly right side and the Lower city ( Nizhnyaya or Zarechnaya chast — what literally means "the part over the river") on the left bank of the river. The Upper city is the old historical part of Nizhny Novgorod, whereas the Lower city is larger, newer and consists of more industrial districts.

Understand [ edit ]

Map

History [ edit ]

The city was founded by Grand Duke George II of Russia in 1221 at the confluence of two most important rivers of his principality, the Volga and the Oka. Its name literally means Newtown the Lower , to distinguish it from the older Novgorod . A major stronghold for border protection, Nizhny Novgorod fortress took advantage of a natural moat formed by the two rivers.

Along with Moscow and Tver, Nizhny Novgorod was among several newly founded towns that escaped Mongol devastation on account of its insignificance and grew up into important centers of Russian political life during the period of Tatar yoke. For a short period of time it was the capital of the Suzdal Principality and competed with Moscow for the power in the region. However the competition with Moscow was lost and in 1392 the city was incorporated into Muscovy. Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin was built in 1508-1511 (under supervision of the Italian fortress engineers) and became one of the strongest Russian citadels. There is a legend saying that the project was initially developed with participation of Leonardo da Vinci. However there is no documented proof of Leonardo's work for that project, the only thing the legend is based on is the striking resemblance of Leonardo's sketches and the actual Kremlin schemes. The fortress was strong enough to withstand Tatar sieges in 1520 and 1536.

In 1612, the so-called national militia , gathered by a local merchant Kuzma Minin and commanded by Knyaz Dmitry Pozharsky expelled the Polish troops from Moscow, thus putting an end to the Time of Troubles and establishing the rule of the Romanov dynasty.

In 1817, the Makaryev Monastery Fair, one of the liveliest in the world the 16th-18th centuries, was transferred to Nizhny Novgorod, which thereupon started to attract numerous visitors and by the mid-19th century it turned Nizhny Novgorod into trade capital of the Russian Empire.

Under the Soviet period, the trade connections of the city were abandoned and Nizhny Novgorod became an important industrial centre instead. During the communist time the city was closed to foreigners to safeguard the security of Soviet military research. The physicist and the Nobel laureate Andrei Sakharov was exiled there during 1980-1986 to limit his contacts with foreigners.

Climate [ edit ]

The climate in the region is humid continental and it is similar to the climate in Moscow , although colder in winter, which lasts from late November until late March with a permanent snow cover.

By car [ edit ]

Nizhny Novgorod is situated on the M7/E30 road. The road is in decent condition, although with traffic it can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours to drive to/from Moscow .

By boat [ edit ]

Turflot [dead link] , Infoflot , and many other companies operate multi-day river cruises down the Volga from early May to the end of September.

Many companies operate passenger boat service between Moscow and Astrakhan , with stops at most cities along the Volga River.

Get around [ edit ]

By foot [ edit ].

The city centre is compact and walkable. However, there are many inclines or steps from the river banks. The bridges are not pedestrian friendly since the sidewalk is very narrow and cars drive extremely fast close to the pedestrians.

By city rail [ edit ]

The City Rail connects areas where there are no metro lines. Connects with the subway at the Moscow railway station. It has 2 lines: Sormovskaya and Priokskaya. The fare by train costs 28 rubles. According to the Citicard Transport Card, the fare is 26 rubles. Also by train you can get to the nearest suburb, or transfer to suburban trains to Dzerzhinsk, Bor, Semenov or Arzamas.

By bus and trolleybus [ edit ]

excursion body swap

As of May 2017 in each district of the city there are several city bus routes. The number of trolleybus routes is much less. In one district of the city there are 1-2 trolleybus routes. Trolleybus routes are completely absent in the Leninsky city district. It is worth noting that trolleybuses do not connect the Lower City to the Upper. This is because the trolleybuses do not have enough power to climb the mountain.

The trolleybus network is divided into 3 parts:

  • The upper trolleybus network (it unites all three districts - Nizhegorodsky, Sovetsky and Prioksky) with a turning circle on the Minin Square, near the Kremlin.
  • The lower trolleybus network (connects Kanavinsky, Moskovsky and Sormovsky districts)
  • The Avtozavod trolleybus network (connects all the distant sleeping microdistricts among themselves)

By tram [ edit ]

Throughout the city, land trams run. The longest route of all is 417. It connects the outskirts of Avtozavodsky district with the Moskovsky Rail Terminal. The journey takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The route passes through the sleeping areas (approximately 75% of the way). Also in remote neighborhoods there are routes of several more trams, but in most cases, they are in the Upper City. By bicycle [ edit ]

Nizhny Novgorod has not very developed bicycle infrastructure. Special bike paths exist only on the Upper-Volga and Lower-Volga embankments and on Rozhdestvenskaya Street.

The upper city is very hilly and full of steep inclines and even many locals will get off their bicycles and push their bikes up the hill by foot. Drivers can be reckless and pose a danger to cyclists. The roads can also be icy during the winter. City cyclists solve this problem by replacing summer tires with winter tires.

Also, in 2017 the implementation of a new integrated transport scheme of the city began. It provides for a large number of bicycle paths in the Upper City (including on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street) and in the Lower City.

Ford built the same body style Super Duty/Excursion from 1999-2016MY. The Excursion is just an SUV body on a single cab 8ft bed frame, same wheelbase and length needed up over the years. So it's entirely possible to take the body off the Excursion and out it on the new chassis, which is common enough to take the cab/body off these to repair a ...

I have a 03 f=250 with the 7.3 to use for the swap. From what I have gathered, it would be very tough.
