[Updated] Dying Light 2 'cannot fast travel during quest' issue surfaces

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is the sequel to the original Dying Light that was released in 2015. The first-person shooting game was launched a few days ago and is developed and published by Techland.

Set in a zombie-infected post-apocalyptic open world, the game takes place 22 years after the events of the original game and has a new protagonist named Aiden Caldwell.

But soon after its launch, Dying Light 2 players reported several bugs and issues . That being said, it looks like players have stumbled upon a new game-breaking bug.

Dying Light 2 players are now reporting ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ) that they are getting a message that says ‘Cannot use fast travel during quest’ because the game thinks a quest is active.

As a result, they are unable to fast travel to the central loop area. Restarting the game and reinstalling is not helping either.

Ok, so after I beat the “Orders” quest I fast traveled out from the Center Loop back to Villedor, however, I’m trying to get to the “Observatory” quest and I can’t seem to reach it from Villedor. There are no fast travels open on Central Loop from my map and I have no clue how to get to the Central Loop on foot, or if it’s even possible. Have I bricked my game or am I just missing how to get back to the Loop on foot? ( Source )
I recently unlocked central loop area after doing the required quest and never got a metro there bc the one i saw was a dark zone and i didn’t go do it since it was day. I then went to play with a friend who had not unlocked the area yet so we were in old villedor, and when i was done playing with said person i notice i cant fast travel back to central loop and i am stuck in old villedor. anyone have the same issue or know how to fix? Many are now wondering how they can get back to the area since they are unable to fast travel anymore. Unfortunately, Dying Light 2 developers are yet to acknowledge the issue where players cannot fast travel to the Central loop area.

We hope the developers look into the matter as soon as possible since players are unable to progress in the game. As new information comes to light, we will let you know so make sure you stay tuned for updates.

Update 1 (March 24)

11:34 am (IST): Dying Light 2 on Twitter has acknowledged the fast travel issue and said that they are working on a fix for the same.

Update 2 (May 9)

01:59 pm (IST): It has been more than a month since the Dying Light 2 team acknowledged this issue.

And since then, the game has received an update , but this issue is still not resolved as fresh reports ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ) are coming in. Unfortunately, there is no further statement from the team.

Update 3 (May 16)

05:54 pm (IST): A Redditor has suggested that loading a previous save file can be a temporary workaround for the fast travel issue.

Update 4 (May 23

01:11 pm (IST): A Redditor now says that the fast travel bug has automatically resolved after completing the campaign mode.

Had same issue and I finally fixed itself when I completed the Main Story. ( Source )

Dying Light 2 takes place over the ruined cityscape of Villedor, and to get around it as quickly as possible, you'll want to know how to unlock fast travel as soon as you can.

Unfortunately, the actual act of unlocking fast travel is locked off until a set point in the story of Dying Light 2. It isn't a case of simply walking up to a point on the map and interacting with it, as you'll need to return power to Villedor before you can do anything with the Metro stations.

This page gives you an over view of Dying Light 2's fast travel system - including where you can and can't go - including how you can unlock Metro Stations to help you get around.

At the very beginning of Dying Light 2, fast travel won't be unlocked for you. In fact, it's going to stay this way for right around 15 hours, until you make it to the Central Loop map area of the game as part of the story.

Up until that point, fast travel will be unavailable, because there isn't any power running through the city. So, if you were to walk up to a Metro Station and attempt to interact with it, it'll tell you that you can't because there isn't any power available to actually get the station itself back up and running.

Once you have eventually unlocked fast travel though - as we'll explain just below - you can fast travel from anywhere in the game. As long as you're not knee deep in infected or human bandits, you can simply open up your map by tabbing over to it from the inventory screen, and select any unlocked Metro Station to immediately teleport there.

It's important to remember that though you can fast travel from anywhere, you can only go to Metro Stations in Dying Light 2. You can't use fast travel to zip to windmills , power plants, or any other such landmarks, as instead you're confined entirely to using it to travel to the nearest Metro Station to your eventual destination.

To unlock fast travel in Dying Light 2, you need to make it to the Central Loop area of the city. You'll do this as part of the story, taking around 15 hours to reach - so if you're keen to make use of Metro Stations, then it's worth prioritising story missions.

In the first few hours of this new area, you're going to play through a mission where someone will deliberately use your GRE Access Key to return power to the whole city.

This mission will culminate in you and another character standing proud atop a skyscraper in the Central Loop, admiring the bright lights now shining across the city.

It's after this mission that power will permanently return to Villedor, and fast travel is subsequently unlocked for the rest of Dying Light 2.

To unlock fast travel points, however, you're going to have to work a little harder. Scattered throughout Dying Light 2's map are Metro Stations, and it's these locations that you're going to have to interact with in order to unlock fast travel to specific points around the map.

The actual act of unlocking a Metro Stations involves descending underground into the bowels of the station, and clearing it of whatever nasties are waiting for you there.

This might mean taking out a group of infected, or slaying a group of Renegade bandits. You'll want to go into these locations heavily armed and prepared for anything, especially if you don't prefer sneaking around and taking everyone out by utilising stealth.

Once the enemies are cleared, you'll simply need to complete one of the electricity circuit puzzles with the cable that you'll have done countless times before by now, and the Metro Station is yours.

There are 12 Metro Stations in total to find, and we've composed several map screens showing where they are located spread throughout Dying Light 2's Old Villedor and Central Loop areas:

Dying Light 2 guide: Fast Travel and Metro Stations

Fast Travel in Dying Light 2 requires a little bit of work. A few Fast Travel locations will unlock automatically as part of the main story, but the rest require you to find a Metro Station Nighttime Activity .

In this Dying Light 2 Fast Travel and Metro Station guide, we’ll give you a map to every Metro Station and Fast Travel location. We’ll also explain what you’ll have to do when you get there.

There are 10 Fast Travel locations scattered around Old Villedor and the Central Loop. Two of them — Main Terminal Station in Quarry End and PK Floating Fortress in The Wharf unlock as you progress through the main story. The other eight require you to find them and complete each one’s Metro Station Nighttime Activity .

When you unlock the first Metro Station, you’ll get the Tunnel Entrance achievement or trophy . When you unlock every Metro Station, you’ll earn the Tube Map achievement or trophy .

Once a Fast Travel destination or Metro Station is unlocked, you’ll be able to Fast Travel to them from anywhere at any time (as long as you’re not actively in a story mission). Head to your Map , and hover over one of the icons with the three arrows. Hold down the prompt to Fast Travel.

At the bottom of stairs in every Metro Station, there’s also a Metro map. If you approach this map, you’ll get another Fast Travel prompt. That will take you to the Map where you can choose your destination.

Metro Station Activity

Power up the metro station.

When you first arrive at a Metro Station, it won’t be active. You’ll have to head down the stairs at night and clear out any enemies you find — Infected or, later, Renegades. Your goal is to “Power up the Metro Station” by finding a fuse box and throwing the switch.

Most of the time, though, this won’t finish the Activity.

Turn on the emergency generators

After you throw the switch, you’ll get a new objective: “Turn on the emergency generators.” There will be four of them.

Metro Stations have the same general layout, so the process will be the same. You’ll head into the elevator, and then crawl beneath the elevator to drop the rest of the way down.

In the lowest level, you’ll need to navigate a Chemical Area that drains your Immunity while you jump around to flip the switches on the four generators marked on your HUD.

When a Metro Station is unlocked, you’ll get a Bed and a Stash in a Safe Zone . You’ll also find a(t least one) Inhibitor in that Safe Zone in every Metro Station

New Dying Light 2 Patch 1.4.2 Fixes Essential Fast Travel Issues Across All Platforms

Dying Light 2 patch 1.4.2 has been rolled out across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, addressing one of the most essential issues that players have been dealing with .

For quite some time, players across platforms had to deal with the Fast Travel option not working properly during quests. Luckily, after installing this new hotfix, Techland has now seemingly fixed “most” of the issues related to Fast Travel. In addition, this new patch addresses some crashing issues in co-op mode, improves the game’s stability, and more.

You’ll find the official release notes for Dying Light 2 Patch 1.4.2 (hotfix) down below. “In this hotfix, we wanted to address one of the essential issues players encountered during their adventures in The City – Fast Travel feature becoming unavailable under certain circumstances”, Techland writes . “This issue should be resolved after a series of tests and implementations we’ve performed.”

Dying Light 2 Patch 1.4.2 Release Notes PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One Most of the Fast Travel issues should be fixed. We are still working on improving the players’ experience while using this feature. Crashes occurring in co-op while using stab follow-up skills are fixed. Improved game stability and reduced the number of random crashes. We are making Tyrant Volatiles stronger. A little. Sorry. Special Infected received better resistance to some types of damage. Special Infected with an orange marker should drop Mutation Samples. Outfits from Chapter 1 will transfer to NG+; there will be no need to redeem them again. Fixed a soft lock related to dying during the challenge. Fixed an issue related to reconnecting to the game on PlayStation after leaving the session (manually or automatically) a couple of times. Achievements „Find Anything Interesting?” and „Street Art Aficionado” can now be obtained properly.

Released back in February of this year, Dying Light 2 is available globally now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Dying Light 2: How To Fast Travel

Fast travel isn't available from the start in Dying Light 2, but here's how and when it unlocks.

As with its predecessor, Dying Light 2 Stay Human allows players to traverse its open world with the kind of fluidity and speed that's often lacking in open-world games like Far Cry. This is thanks to the game's Parkour mechanics and how well they work in conjunction with the environment. Even the paraglider that unlocks later on in the game makes traversal a breeze in Dying Light 2 .

However, even with this in mind, Dying Light 2 is a step up in every way, but it's a big game with a large map that provides the kind of verticality and density that compares to the classic Assassin's Creed series. Only this time the densely packed city is crawling with undead creatures that only get deadlier at night. So activating and making use of the game's fast travel feature will be high on the agenda.

Unlocking Fast Travel

Activating Dying Light 2 's fast travel feature won't be unlocked until the player reaches the Downtown area . This means that it won't unlock until around 8-12 hours into the game's main story mode.

The Downtown area contains Metro Stations and some will need to be cleared out of zombies before they can be activated.

There are 9 Metro Stations to unlock in total, but the first two stations called Holy Trinity and Downtown Court will unlock automatically after completing the " Let's Waltz " story quest.

This will allow the protagonist to travel between two districts with ease. Here are the steps to unlock the game's first Metro Stations:

  • Begin the "Let's Waltz" quest by going to the Dynamo Car Factory.
  • Complete the story of the mission without forgetting to collect the bow .
  • With the mission completed, Aiden will find himself in the Central Loop.
  • Open up the map and the Holy Trinity and the Downtown Courtroom will be available for fast travel.

Unlocking The First Station

With seven more Metro Stations to unlock, it can be a time-consuming endeavor. However, having as many fast travel points available as possible will make traversing the map so much easier.

The first station that one should unlock is the Hayward Square Metro . This can be found in Downtown Central Loop and is marked on the map in white. The entrance is boarded up, and the underground station is packed with zombies that need to be cleared out, but the rewards make it worthwhile.

It's up to the player if they want to make it their mission to clear out the stations first or unlock them as they go. But be prepared for quite a challenge as the undead will attack in large numbers causing problems within a confined space. Keep in mind, however, that Dying Light 2 is a game that's designed to be played with parkour being one of its biggest strengths . Don't overuse the fast travel feature and miss out on the make of the game's secrets.

In Dying Light 2 you can fast travel to Metro Stations you’ve restored and also to two friendly camps that unlock over the course of the story.

Once you’ve restored a Metro Station, scroll over it on the map and initiate fast travel by holding Square Button (PlayStation) / X Button (Xbox) / Y Button (Nintendo Switch).

Any location that you can fast travel to will show 3 arrows “>>>” above its map icon. There are only two story-related camps you can fast travel to: Main Terminal Station & PK Floating Fortress. All other fast travel is done through Metro Stations which you must first unlock by visiting them and turning on the power.

You can fast travel from anywhere directly through the map screen. There’s no need to visit the Metro Stations to travel between them. Simply open the map, scroll over the icon, and you’ll get the “Fast Travel” prompt shown on the map. After Main Quest 8: Water Tower, you are able to fully zoom out the map, which makes it easier to see the fast travel icons.

That’s all there is to using fast travel in Dying Light 2 (DL2).

To use Dying Light 2 fast travel, you'll need to find Metro stations and Faction bases that you can jump between, although exactly how you do this isn't clearly explained in-game. Some of these fast travel points are given to you in the Dying Light 2 story, some just have to be found, and others involve platforming puzzles to get the power back on. A few even have enemies to clear out or are full of Infected and can only be activated at night. 

Fast travel might not seem like the most important thing at the start when you're sprinting over rooftops like the proverbial bat out of hell, but as your knowledge of the city and improves and the Dying Light 2 map size increases, you might want to skip a half-hour commute on rooftiles slick with zombie blood in favor of safe fast travel. That's why we've explained how to fast travel in Dying Light 2, how to find all the Metro stations, and what the limitations of it are once you unlock it.

How to fast travel in Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 fast travel options open up a little way into the campaign, roughly 8-12 hours in ( Dying Light 2 length varies a lot depending on your engagement with side activity), when you complete the section of the story that takes place solely in Old Villedor. At this point, fast travel options will unlock automatically in both the Central Loop and Old Villedor sections, marked on your own map by icons with three white arrows, like a fast forward icon. Holding the cursor over those specific icons will give you the option to fast travel by holding down the X/Square button, whereupon you'll instantly teleport there.

To expand your options, you'll have to find and activate other fast travel locations as you explore. Using your binoculars to scan the horizon can save you time physically covering the entire map, and happens to be one of our Dying Light 2 tips . If you do find a metro station, make a detour to add it to your map. 

Where to find Dying Light 2 Metro Stations and fast travel points 

Dying Light 2 fast travel points are spread out all over the City, usually around one per map area. To find them we suggest heading up to any tall location and scouting with the binoculars - however, unlike windmills, Metro Stations tend to be very close to ground level, so bear that in mind when looking for them. 

As we mentioned before, there are different ways to unlock Metro stations. If you're lucky, just wondering nearby one and discovering it will add it to your map. The rest will have you complete a platforming puzzle to activate several generators. On top of that some will be will taken over by Renegades, or be filled with Infected and require that you come back at night. However, you don't actually have to fight enemies, you can just get past them and reach the electrical generator section. Knowing how to assign Factions in Dying Light 2 to electrical stations will also make Metro Stations easier to complete.

  • Newell's Crossing metro - activate electrical generators to use. 
  • Waterside metro station - Infected, can only be entered at night, activate electrical generators to use. 
  • Peacekeeper base - activated once you reach the Peacekeeper's shipwreck base. 
  • Kings Williams Bridge metro - Renegades, activate electrical generators to use. 
  • VNC Tower metro - Renegades, activate electrical generators to use. 
  • Downtown court - Find to activate.
  • Hayward Square metro - Infected, can only be entered at night, activate electrical generators to use.

  • Main Terminal Station - Peacekeeper base unlocked in the story

The Dying Light 2 fast travel system can be a little confusing at first, and takes roughly several hours before you can activate it. Dying Light 2 takes place in the large, post-apocalyptic city of Villedor, which is divided into numerous zones and requires travel in the metro tunnels to reach certain areas. With a comprehensive parkour system, you won't always need to utilise it, but for travelling across the longest sections of the city, it can be imperative for reaching safety before night. So, here's our primer on how to fast travel in Dying Light 2 .

How To Fast Travel In Dying Light 2: Metro Stations 

Dying Light 2 Fast Travel

The main method to fast travel in Dying Light 2 is by utilising the various metro stations which are dotted around the city. On the map, they are marked by a logo of a train and a little electricity symbol, and initially they cannot be accessed after being discovered. If you do try to walk into one, it will display a message saying the activity is unavailable until the electricity is enabled. This ties into an important mechanic that becomes available later in the game, where you can activate electrical substations in the city to provide power to zones. 

The first time you unlock the fast travel option is during the quest named A Place To Call Home. After travelling to the Central Loop you will discover the Downtown Court metro station, and once you climb the stairs into the main station, a message pops up letting you know you have the ability to fast travel. This doesn't unlock all fast travelling though, and like we mentioned above, you will need to activate the electrical substation in a zone to be allowed to use its metro station.

All metro stations are populated by either infected or Renegades, which need to be cleared out before it can make for a useful fast travel point, and base. The Renegades need to be killed before you can activate the power, but zombies will clear out once the lights come back on, so you can just sneak past them. Some stations will require you to descend further into an elevator shaft, so you can activate some generators underground. Once this is done, you flip the main switch, and the metro station will become a new safe house and fast travel point. You also get a single Inhibitor for your hard work.

While it's fun to parkour on rooftops and glide around in the massive open-world of Dying Light 2 , sometimes you just want to get to your destination fast. However, the ability to fast travel won’t be available right away as you’ll need to progress to a certain point in the story first . Luckily, you won’t have to do a lot of running back and forth between the quest locations within the first area of the map.

Depending on how you play the game, it may take you several hours before you get to the quest that unlocks Dying Light 2’s fast travel system . Having said that, you can't just open up the map and wish yourself to a random point on it. Be it day or night, there is always a constant threat of infected and other humans in Villedor, where the game takes place. The fast travel is unlocked once you reach The Central Loop and complete the quest "Let’s Waltz!" but at that point in the story, there’ll be only a limited number of places acting as fast travel spots.

You must capture the metro stations scattered throughout Villedor in order to unlock more locations for fast traveling . You can also fast travel to The Central Terminal, and The Peacekeeper’s main HQ . The game doesn't allow you to fast travel to safe houses or Nightrunner’s Hideouts.

Fast traveling in Dying Light 2 is pretty much identical to most other games. All you need to do is open your map, find a legend icon that has three white arrows pointing to the right, hover over the icon, and hold your fast travel button . There's no loading time if you’re playing the game on a next-gen console or a PC with an SSD.

It’s not always the smartest decision to make the journey on foot, and after you reach The Central Loop —the second area in the game— you’ll want to capture a few metro stations as soon as possible that act as fast travel locations. They appear as “?” icons on the map until you discover them , which can be done either by being near them or using your trusty binoculars.

You can find metro stations by climbing to a high spot with a clear view. From there, use your binoculars and look for a red metro sign . They’re usually easy to catch, plus, your binoculars can spot them even through buildings.

Metro stations are either controlled by bandits or they’re full of infected . You don’t have to kill enemies to capture these fast-travel locations. All you need to do is to find the main switch in the electrical room and turn it on , but keep in mind, some stations will require you to activate the emergency generators first.

Make sure to loot all you can first, once you capture a metro station, all the loot inside will disappear . It will be a riskier adventure, but there’s always some high-quality loot waiting for you in the most dangerous places of Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2: How to Unlock and Use Fast Travel

Dying Light 2 fast travel isn’t available from the start of the game. In fact, you’ll have to play through a good portion of the campaign before you can unlock it and start moving around the open world of Villedor without having to rely solely on your parkour traversal skills. 

Fast travel is linked to Metro Stations spread across the map, as well as two Faction Hubs. Some territories and areas have them, while others don’t. Regardless of their locations, though, one is always nearby. This quick Dying Light 2 guide will tell you what you need to do to unlock the fast travel system.

How to Unlock Fast Travel in Dying Light 2

You unlock fast travel in Dying Light 2 after the main campaign mission A Place to Call Home . This happens after the power is restored in the Downtown area (southeast of Old Villedor) by activating the Electrical Station in the mission.

Once you arrive in the Central Loop, you’ll notice that the Trinity Metro Station, Downtown Metro Station, and Main Terminal Station (a PK Faction Hub) in Quarry End are highlighted green. That means they are now activated and available for fast travel. Eventually, you will also unlock two more Faction Hubs: one in the Wharf and one in New Dawn Park.

When you hover over the green Metro Station or Faction Hub icons on the Dying Light 2 map , a fast travel prompt will appear on the map itself . The prompt does not show up on the card that appears on the left side of the screen when you highlight the point of interest. You can also fast travel from the map terminals found in each Metro Station, though pulling up the primary map is easier.

You can fast travel from any location at any time save for the epilogue, which is the “point of no return” (don’t worry, you can still play after you beat the campaign). 

How to Activate Metro Stations for Fast Travel

Before you can fast travel to different territories in Dying Light 2 , you’ll have to unlock Faction Hubs through the story automatically and other Metro Stations by traveling to them on foot or with the paraglider. Metro Stations are activated by restoring their power .

In boroughs that either do not have an Electrical Station or in which you haven’t yet activated the area’s Electrical Station, you must manually activate the power to each Metro .

There is always a terminal behind a locked door that must first be flipped, then generators in the Metro Station basement that must be powered on. These “puzzles” are straightforward and have objective markers to follow. Each basement is set up exactly the same way, just with the generators in slightly different locations. There will always be chemicals, so be careful!

Those fast travel locations marked with a blue moon symbol and say to come back at night contain zombies/Infected and act similarly to Dark Hollows and GRE Quarantine Zones. Any others are occupied by Renegades and can be taken during the day or night.

You can’t fast travel while in combat or when your immunity is low.
