Wardruna were as amazing as ever! Unfortunately, in order to make more money, the organisers of the event sold standing tickets till the Shepherds Bush O2 arena was so full that people had to stand behind the bar to hope and see something. I had been at the venue before and it was never this full. Surely a great concert, but the experience was somehow damaged by the excessive number of people inside. Is that even compliant with safety and security standards?

Incredibly powerful voices, in conjunction with strange, traditional musical instruments. Absolutely clear sound, without any electrical instruments or use of distortion. Great atmosphere, combining Wardruna's mystical sound with very impressive light effects. Watching Wardruna live is a rather different experience rather than just listening to their albums, that every fan should experience at least once.

The Union Chapel for the gig was the perfect venue. The place felt intimate and everyone had clear view of the stage.

The atmosphere was eerie and electric. I havn,t experienced anything like it. Wardrunna themselves were just fantastic really. I was quite overwhelmed by the whole experience... very moving.

Great venue, good sound, nice band. I would have liked the band to have more interaction during the concert and that the encore would have been more than one song, but hey, don't complain, it was totally worth it. It was nice there was a signing session

Super show!!! Very beautiful Nordic folk music played by the band that is very commited to their fans!!! Pure, powerfull, beautiful, shamanic, historic, viking experience. Wardruna will take you some place else for a moment.

5/5 stars. It was absolutely wonderful. The energy that they brought was mesmerizing. I would love to see them brought back to Town Hall again in the future. It was an excellent concert.

The sound at this venue was very good. The performance was amazing. It's entirely something else to see the way they are producing the sounds you hear on the album track.

Since their formation in the early 2000’s initiated by composer Einar Selvik, WARDRUNA have had vast worldwide success, transcending music genres, cultures and languages while being renowned for their innovative and genre-creating renditions of ancient Nordic traditions.

The group's massive musical contributions to History Channel ́s TV series VIKINGS—which consists of over 60 placements and substantial work on the show’s musical score in addition to appearances by Einar, who starred and performed on two occasions in Season 3 and 4 — has exposed their music to a broad audience worldwide.

Wardruna merge academics with pop culture, and their thorough and serious approach has made them one of today’s foremost communicators of Norse culture. Today’s top international scholars on Old Norse studies use Einar's work to exemplify how music might have been executed in earlier times in Scandinavia and he has lectured about his work with historical music in prestigious universities such as Oxford, University of Denver, Reykjavik University and University of Bergen. Alongside fellow Norwegian metal band Enslaved, Wardruna was commissioned by the Norwegian government to write and perform a music-piece for the 200-year anniversary of the Norwegian constitution in 2014.

The legendary skalds in Wardruna have just announced the first dates of what looks like being a huge tour, spanning from 2024 into 2025.

If you’ve never had the chance to catch this act live before, you should know it’s not just a gig. It’s an experience which you can take home in your mind. While Wardruna ‘s video content is in itself moving, and aesthetically appealing – including the recently released Hertan – it simply can’t compete with being in front of them in person. We highly recommend it.

The performances announced so far include venues such as Royal Albert Hall in London and the Oslo Opera House, and their only US date in 2024 at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, featuring Chelsea Wolfe as a special guest.  Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 12th, here: https://www.wardruna.com/tour-dates/

Einar Selvik says about the world tour:

“ It is always a special feeling to plan and announce a new tour. This time, perhaps more so than usual due to the fact that we are visiting quite a few parts of the world where we have yet not performed with Wardruna. We greatly look forward to revisit familiar faces and places with our songs, as well as the chance to make new bonds in new lands.”

On 5th April,  Wardruna released a new song Hertan , alongside a music video. The track explores duality of the heart with the rhythm, flow and pulse one can see, hear, and feel in nature and in all forms of life. It also dives into the more abstract idea of the heart as the rudder on the ship of emotions, our decisions, and our true desires. The music video was shot with Finnish director and photographer Tuukka Koski , who also created the video for  Raido, Voluspá,  and Grá.

About Wardruna :

“Hertan”, the proto-Scandinvian word for heart, is steeped in Wardruna tradition. With this new song, Wardruna announce the beginning of a vibrant new cycle, pulsating with life. The song explores the rhythm of pulse, a flow visible in all forms of life and in nature, and the heart as the rider of decisions.

Making room for something new to come into being, the Norwegian group ends the  Kvitravn  touring cycle in a remarkable way. During the autumn equinox on September 21, 2023, Wardruna performed at the world heritage site  Odeon of Herodes Atticus , Acropolis, Athens. The event sold out quickly, with fans from all over the world attending.

The concert at the Acropolis is the culmination of an intense period of touring, with successful shows in the United States, Norway, Iceland and the UK.

In 2022, Wardruna headlined the festivals Wacken Open Air in Germany and Hellfest Open Air in France and saw the group perform at historic sites, such as Ancient Theater in Plovdiv and Castle Devin, Bratislava during the Nordic Night Tour. In 2023, the second leg of the  Kvitravn  touring cycle took place throughout the summer with Wardruna playing (festival) shows in Germany, France, The Netherlands and a concert at Borgholm Castle in Sweden.

At the heart of Wardruna lies the vision of sowing new seeds and strengthening old roots, a concept that came to life in 2009. The first three albums formed the Runaljod trilogy and featured musical renditions based on the Nordic runes. Each of the three releases focused around eight of the twenty-four Proto-Norse runes, more commonly known as the Elder Futhark. The trilogy consists of  Runaljod – gap var Ginnunga  (2009),  Runaljod – Yggdrasil  (2013),  Runaljod – Ragnarok  (2016).

After years of acoustic concerts and lectures, performing Wardruna songs and creations made for the TV-show Vikings, Einar Selvik recorded  Skald  (2018).

The album was recorded live with the intention of capturing the raw and uncompromising energy of the live performance. It set out to give a voice to the ancient craft that once lay at the foundation of the Norse oral traditions, presented as it takes shape in the hands of a humble contemporary skald today.

Wardruna’s fifth full-length Kvitravn (White-Raven) was released in January 2021. The album musically continues where the Runaljod trilogy left off, yet it marks a distinct evolution in the group’s sound. Throughout eleven songs, Kvitravn discusses Northern sorcery, spirit-animals, shadows, nature and animism, the wisdom and meanings of certain myths, various Norse spiritual concepts, and the relation between sage and songs. The record charted in 13 countries, including #1 in Canada and Austria, and #2 in Germany. A year later, the band presented a virtual live experience in the form of  First Flight of the White Raven , also landing in the official German Album Charts.

The period between First Flight of the White Raven and “Hertan”, is not without creative output.

A new rendition of Voluspá (live with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra ) came out in June 2023. Einar Selvik also performed on national Norwegian television with electronic dance music DJ Matoma and joined Faroese singer-songwriter Eivør and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra for a symphonic concert series. One of the duets, Voluspá (live with Eivør) shall be released physically on Record Store Day in April 2024, in the United States, Canada and Germany.

Now a new cycle begins with Hertan, seeing Wardruna embark on an extensive world tour this year, in support of this new release.

Norwegian folk-proggers Wardruna recently released a brand new single Hertan

Norwegian folk-proggers  Wardruna  have announced a lengthy list of tour dates for North and South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the UK and Ireland and Norway which run from October this year all the way through to May 2025.

The band, who shared their brand new single, Hertan , last week , will be performing at such prestigious venues as London's Royal Albert Hall and the Oslo Opera House among this first batch of new live dates, as well as appearing at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, with Chelsea Wolfe as special guest. 

"It is always a special feeling to plan and announce a new tour," says mainman Einar Selvik. "This time, perhaps more so than usual due to the fact that we are visiting quite a few parts of the world where we have yet not performed with Wardruna. We greatly look forward to revisit familiar faces and places with our songs, as well as the chance to make new bonds in new lands."

Wardruna announce world tour

WARDRUNA  have announced a headlining world tour!

Set to run from October this year through to May next year, the tour will see the Norwegian Nordic folk collective touring extensively in numerous territories across the world, including  Red Rocks Amphitheatre  in the USA, the  Royal Albert Hall  in London and the Oslo Opera House  in Norway.

Additionally, the band will make their first ever appearances in Australia, New Zealand and Latin America.

The news of the tour comes on the back of the band’s new single,  Hertan , and tickets for the tour are available now and can be purchased here .
