Longines Global Champions Tour Monaco: the best global jumpers conquered the Rock

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

It is the most awaited moment for lovers of five-star riding and not only! And it came back to its prestigious Monaco’s headquarters overlooking the incomparable skyline of Prince’s Palace. The best show-jumping horses and the most skilled riders met on the Monegasque arena, built in less than two weeks record-time to celebrate the 15 th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo , part of the World Jumping Championship. The Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) Monaco, under the high patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, was held from the 1 st until the 3 rd July 2021 at Quai Albert 1er in Port Hercules. “ My vision is clear only the best for the best ” is the watchword of Jan Tops , former rider, founder and President of the Global Champions Tour . And the Monaco jumping arena perfectly embodies this spirit.

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

A three-day full-immersion in the best equestrian world that offered the audience and all visitors of the Hospitality Unit great emotions and the opportunity to see very closely fantastic thoroughbred pedigree horses in their best form. The championship, in fact, entered into the Monegasque competition in its half-way stage to the Grand Final Playoff which will be held in Prague in November 2021, after passing through some of the most iconic urban areas like Paris, New York and Mexico City.

A time, then, when the slightest technical movement counts within the man-horse binomial that interacts in synergy. Who is going to inherit the 2020 LCGT World Champion title assigned to Daniel Deusser, rider of Killer Queen? Various tests at amateur, national and professional level, alternated their predictions according to the degree of difficulty determined by the number of obstacles and their height, varying from 70 cm to 1,60 m.

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

Equestrian sports have always been considered first-rate in the Principality, despite its small territory. And this year the Monte-Carlo Equestrian Federation’s great piece of news is about Junior and Children teams that will participate for their first time to the FEI Jumping European Championships for Young Riders, Juniors & Children which will be held in Vilamoura (Portugal) late in July.

“ Two years ago, there were just a few Monegasque riders attending the challenge without a Team. Today is different, there is a real evolution: some riders attended 2019 national contests testing 80cm obstacle bars and then this great opportunity for our young youth who are the athletes of tomorrow in need of immediate training. We are really proud to have a Team at the European tournament”, stressed to HelloMonaco Diane Fissore (D.F.) , President of the Equestrian Federation of the Principality of Monaco.

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

HelloMonaco: Mrs. Fissore, what about your expectations for the 2021 edition of Jumping Monaco?

D.F.: It has been a particularly difficult year. Until two months ago we had not yet the certainty to have the Jumping and fifteen days from the beginning we did not know if we could welcome the stand seats, if we could host six diners at the same table, not to tell about the compelled PCR test for all participants. Therefore, we can consider this event as a miracle since it was not an easy task. Many of the international competitions could not be played in the current year. So, we must appreciate this moment and the fact of being together to enjoy sport.

HelloMonaco : What does it mean for your Federation ?

D.F.: Even though we are not the organizers of Jumping, we remain primarily a Federation that operates throughout the year. We started in 1995 and today we are managing between 270 and 300 horses and nearly 90 members. We can therefore say that this sport is spreading in Monaco. However, we would like to transmit values to the children of those who were present at the time of the Federation’s creation. Thus, we do believe in maintaining this trend and keeping on professionalizing ourselves.

The Prix Fédération Equestre de la Principauté de Monaco (CSI 5* – 1,45m) on Thursday the 1st July in the afternoon performances kept the spectators in suspense until the big victory of the Emanuele Gaudiano with his horse Carlotta who succeeded all twelve jumps in the two-phase course, designed by Uliano Vizzani . A lot of concentration and skill allowed the Italian award-winning champion to make the right assessments and overcome a few tricky distances and hairpins.

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

“ Returning to win in a magical place like Monaco is always enjoyable and I am very pleased about my horse outcome who has been already successful twice in this season”, outlined for HelloMonaco Mr. Gaudiano – “ I have known Carlotta since she was five years old and I completely believe in her abilities; our next goal is now Tokyo Olympics and immediately after the LGCT stage in Rome (September 2021) ”, he added.

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

In the first stage of the CSI 5* (1,55 m) Global Champion League , held afterwards the same day, Nayel Nassar (Igor Van De Wittemoere) and Darragh Kenny (Idalville D’Esprit) of Paris Panthers Team were neatly triumphant , followed soon after by the home team, Monaco Aces, made of Julien Epaillard (Billabong) and Jos Verlooy (Jacobien Dwerse Hagen).

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

“ There were no double clears yet so we just figured out we shouldn’t take any unnecessary risk and put ourselves in a good position for Saturday ”, pointed out Nassar – “ our horses really responded great and I felt like we put in two solid rounds ”, he added.

On Friday the 2 nd July, one of the biggest star of the Jumping, James Wilson was crowned the ‘king’ of the Casino de Monte-Carlo Trophy (CSI 5* – 1,50 m) exceeding the skilled Pieter Devos (Jade vd Bisschop) for just a tenth of a second. Concentration, great sense of responsibility and bravery are requested at the top to survive the challenge. The British 26-year-old rider threw a strike for the first time with his Imagine de Muze.

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

“I wasn’t nervous because she (the horse) would get chance, being quick across the ground without many options to take strides in the arena as she rides like an indoor ”, highlighted Wilson.

The 11 th Edition of the Pro-Am Cup , was the fitting conclusion of the second day by combining Jumping Pros with emerging stars in a two-round competition for a gripping result out of the ordinary. Ten teams faced each other bravely on the LGCT sand until the final round where V. Platini and V. Barca ( Cavalleria Toscana ) from Team Virtus stood out among the others thanks to the horses perfect performance at each round as a due balance between style and speed.

The Sovereign Prince and Charlotte Casiraghi (Conceiver and Patron of Pro-Am) acted as honourable prize-givers in this magical and refreshing evening underneath the Monegasque panorama.

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

At the 2 nd Competition of the Global Champions League (CSI 5* 1,55 m.) on Saturday the 3 rd afternoon, Nayel Nasser and Darragh Kenny (Paris Panthers Team) confirmed their leadership showing effective double clear rounds, followed by Monaco Aces, with a notable performance by the leading riders Alberto Zorzi (Italy) and Edwina Tops-Alexander (Australia).

“ Both Nayel and I have very talented horses and they were jumping great so there was no reason to change anything ”, stated Kenny. “ We can’t be happier with this convincing victory, we played the competition to our utmost strengths and it suited our horses well today”, Nassar concluded.

15th Anniversary of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo

Finally, the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix du Prince de Monaco (1,60 m.) on Saturday evening gave an extraordinary show into a crescendo of pathos and positive energy for all 33 qualified participants. Under the motto “only the bravest”, Darragh Kenny (Ireland) riding Idalville d’Esprit achieved the best test conquering the prestigious Trophy that was awarded by H.R.H. Princess of Hanover and Her daughter Charlotte Casiraghi .

“ My horse felt fantastically! … and He loves this ring in Monaco ”, said Kenny to conclude such an unforgettable weekend for him where he granted the access to the GC Prague Playoffs and maybe to the grand final in Prague on November 2021. Let’s be in the saddle for the follow up!

By: Longines Global Champions Tour Media | November 30, 2022

The countdown is on to the 2023 Longines Global Champions Tour & GCL season as the full calendar is revealed today.

With an extraordinary 2022 season wrapping up with the Prague Playoffs just a few short weeks ago, all eyes now turn to the buzzing 16 event 2023 season. The high-profile first event of the 2023 calendar, held at the world-class equestrian facility will ensure a dramatic kick-off to the new LGCT and GCL season. Shanghai, China will not be part of the 2023 calendar but everyone is looking forward to its return to the series in 2024.

The race to the season championship will take horses, riders and spectators around the globe to 16 major cities and key locations. Riders will be battling to secure their golden ticket all season for a coveted spot in the ultimate individual showdown, the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague Playoffs. And motivation will be high among team owners, managers and riders to deliver maximum performance to put them in a strong position for the high-pressure knockout stages of the GCL Super Cup at the O2 Arena in Prague for the final event of the calendar.

Jinking hooves, gleaming bridles and the unmistakable scent of horse sweat, leather and serious money; competition sponsors including Rolex, Hermès, Gucci and Longines; chic outdoor arenas at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, on Miami Beach and in Monte Carlo; and single competition prize money topping €1.2m. Showjumping is enjoying an unprecedented era of prosperity and prestige, revelling in its status as a chic, big-city affair that marries athletic prowess with high-stakes panache. Adroit marketing, and the support of rich benefactors, has played a part, but so too has the headline-grabbing enthusiasm of glamorous young women, many of whom are the daughters of some of the richest, most powerful people in the world.

There’s 29-year-old Jessica Springsteen (daughter of The Boss), who first sat on a horse at the age of four and recently took home a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Jennifer Gates (daughter of  Bill and Melinda), who has competed both in the US and internationally, and founded the Paris Panthers jumping team, which participates in the Longines Global Champions Tour. Georgina Bloomberg (daughter of the former mayor of New York City) is an investor in the Wellington Equestrian Center, the Palm Beach winter playground for the showjumping set. Other names to reckon with include Eve Jobs (daughter of Steve), Athina Onassis (granddaughter of Aristotle), Sofia Abramovich (daughter of Roman), Charlotte Casiraghi (daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco) and Mathilde Pinault (daughter of chairman and CEO of luxury conglomerate Kering, François-Henri Pinault). That’s before you throw in British royalty ( Zara Tindall , the Queen’s granddaughter) and leading Emirati like Sheikha Latifah Al Maktoum (daughter of Sheikh Ahmed bin Juma Al Maktoum and Sheikha Hessa bint Rashid Al Maktoum of the Dubai ruling family), models including Edie Campbell and Bella Hadid (who was tipped for stardom before teenage health issues stalled her career) and fashion moguls such as Mary-Kate Olsen, co-founder of The Row.

Flore Giraud, one of France’s rising showjumpers, in the manège at Haras de Lécaude

If a love of horses and a passion for the sport drives these riders, the roll call of so many wealthy families is also an indication of its expense. The so-called “warmblood” horses – considered less flighty and temperamental than thoroughbreds, and thus some of the most sought-after – fetch from around £40,000 for a young prospect yet to learn the job to six figures or more for a well-bred horse with a proven record. Owners must be prepared to spend up to £15,000 a month on stabling, training, veterinary bills and travel. A bespoke Hermès saddle , stitched by hand in the Paris atelier, costs £5,740.

€25m Total prize money at the Longines Global Champions Tour 2021

$15m The price paid for top-class jumper Palloubet d’Halong by Jan Tops in 2014

$3,75 The approximate cost of hiring a stable at the Winter Equestrian Festival for the 13-week season

Up to $75,000 For one VIP table for the 13-week season at the Winter Equestrian Festival

$25,916 Full annual membership of Wellington International Polo Club

$59m The amount Bill Gates reportedly paid for a series of properties comprising what is now known as Evergates Stables

From €60 Single spectator ticket to the Saut Hermès (to be next held in March 2022)

From £40,000 The cost of a young prospect horse yet to learn the job

“It’s an expensive sport for sure,” says 19-year-old Mathilde Pinault, who combines competitive riding with university studies. “When you have the money you’re going to be able to reach a much more professional standard in terms of your training and preparation.” But while Pinault acknowledges the costs, she’s dismissive of the idea that financial advantage alone – or your family name – might produce first-class equestrians. “The top riders in the world are the ones who learnt when they were young how to bond with their horses. First, you have to build that relationship. When I was four, I rode a Shetland pony in the Jardin du Luxembourg. By six or seven, I was volunteering to look after the horses. Then when I was 10, I was bought my first pony, and began riding at a pony club outside Paris.”

Springsteen credits her connection with horses to a childhood spent training at Beacon Hill Show Stables, near her family farm in Colts Neck, New Jersey. Jennifer Gates started riding at six. Eve Jobs was put on a horse at two.

“The harmony and trust between a horse and rider is key, and to jump high-level classes you have to build this special relationship from the outset,” says Flore Giraud, 25, one of France’s rising showjumping stars and a friend of Pinault’s – through their fathers. “I started riding at four and competing when I was eight. I was spending my whole day in the stables, and would have slept there if I’d been allowed.” Now based in Normandy, she rides “six horses. They give so much that we have to be their intimate friends. Building that relationship is one of the most exciting feelings one can have.”

Mathilde Pinault grooms her horse, Dali, at the stables owned by her trainer Edouard Mathé in Auffargis, France

If the pony club is the starting blocks for the jeunesse dorée , in the US other organisations are also finding ways of fostering new talent. Sixteen-year-old rising star Zoie Brogdon’s love of riding was nurtured by a summer camp run by the Compton Cowboys , an off-shoot of the legendary Compton Jr Posse from the city south of Los Angeles. The Compton Cowboys have drawn on a tradition of African-American cowboys – who were a major part of the Old West but still feature only sparsely on the American rodeo circuit – to use equestrian culture to create a safer environment for children growing up in Compton today. “Being at the CJP is where my passion for horses ignited,” Brogdon said before competing at the Del Mar International showjumping competition in 2020. “They taught me not just how to properly sit on a horse but how to truly ride one. I’d love to rise to the highest levels of equestrian sport so that African-American girls can look to me for inspiration and know that it’s not impossible.”

A therapist gives massages to ease the horses’ muscles and there are visits to an equine pool and spa

It’s a sentiment echoed by young Palestinian Leila Malki, who in 2018 won the Against All Odds award at the FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale) Awards at the age of 15. Malki comes from an affluent background but with nothing like the equestrian culture or history ingrained in riders from the Gulf states, such as Sheikha Latifah Al Maktoum. Despite growing up in a homeland riven with conflict, the teenager “had confidence to achieve my goals”, as she said in an interview following her FEI win, and hopes that her example will help to motivate other women, particularly in the Middle East, to “face their challenges”.

But passion – political or personal – needs precision. Flore Giraud’s father Luc, understanding his daughter’s focus, decided that the family ought to partly relocate to Normandy, the centre of French equestrianism. Three years ago, they built the Haras de Lécaude, a state-of-the-art stable half an hour’s drive from Deauville designed not only to facilitate every aspect of riding and training but also to “promote the wellbeing of the horses”, says Giraud. Here, Giraud and her colleague Pénélope Leprevost, the French Olympian, work with equestrian Henri Prudent and his American wife Katie Monahan-Prudent, renowned as one of the best trainers in the world. A therapist gives massages to ease the horses’ muscles and there are visits to an equine pool and spa.

Mathilde Pinault rides Dali with her trainer’s dog

It’s a similar set-up at Jennifer Gates’s Evergate Stables in Wellington, Florida where her father Bill bought an entire street of houses reportedly worth around $59m to guarantee his daughter space and privacy. Just down the road, Stanford graduate Eve Jobs has her $15m ranch. Springsteen, meanwhile, rides horses (including Zecilie, a 14-year-old Holsteiner mare that she took to the Olympics) owned by nearby Rushy Marsh Farm, which sponsors lucrative showjumping competitions. These are some of the plushest stables in the world, with access to equine spas and interior-designed stalls (Ashland Farms is co-owned by interior designer Emily Smith and its Florida facility includes wagon-wheel chandeliers).

The stables

Beacon Hill Show Stables The stomping ground of Jessica Springsteen, this Colts Neck and Wellington-based training ground has coached 19 students to wins at each of the major equitation finals over the past 18 years.

Haras de Lécaude On top of the expert supervision of French equestrian Henri Prudent and his American wife Katie Monahan-Prudent, Haras de Lécaude offers state-of-the-art stabling and training arenas and equine massage.

Ashland Farms Headed up by trainers Ken and Emily Smith (also an interior designer), Ashland Farms has a total of 48 stalls available throughout the year. Expect horse exercisers, jumper rings and wagon-wheel chandeliers.

Unsurprisingly, Wellington is seen as one of the world’s most affluent equestrian communities. The Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, a 500-acre showground owned by Global Equestrian Group, stages an annual 13-week winter festival featuring competitions with $13m of prize money. “Wellington is a great experience for me,” says Giraud. “The courses are huge, and American riders are among the quickest in the world.” With the International Polo Club, owned by Wellington Equestrian Partners (not to mention Donald Trump’s Mar‑a‑Lago), less than an hour’s ride away, the ambience is what the satirical Florida novelist Carl Hiaasen describes as “like the Hamptons with extra sunblock”. (The sport’s intense and insular world encourages periodic flutterings in the gossip columns about romance in the saddle. Are Jessica Springsteen and Lorenzo De Luca still an item? How is Jennifer Gates enjoying marriage to the US-born Egyptian equestrian Nayel Nassar, a fellow rider on her Paris Panthers team?)

Hermès bespoke saddle, £5,740

But much of the contemporary appeal to international glitterati on a competitive level can be laid at the feet of the Longines Global Champions Tour , the Formula One of showjumping. The competition was launched in 2006 by Jan Tops, the Dutch Olympic gold-medal winner. “I wanted to raise the threshold of showjumping around the world,” he says. “And I believe we have absolutely changed that.” Tops set up a sequence of six competitions (there are now 16) across the continents, each staged in eye-catching outdoor venues in the global playgrounds of the rich and famous, including Palm Beach, Monaco, Estoril and Cannes. Within eight years prize money had risen to €9m, with €300,000 for each Grand Prix. Tops was dubbed the “Bernie Ecclestone of showjumping” and while he gently shrugs off the comparison, he admits that the Formula One supremo was “a visionary”.

Flore Giraud with her horse at Haras de Lécaude. A Richard Mille ambassador, she wears a RM 07-01 carbon TPT and titanium watch

Things moved into a higher gear in 2014 when it was announced that Tops had sold 50 per cent of the GCT to Frank McCourt, an Irish American property and construction tycoon who bought the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team from Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp for  $430m in 2004, selling it for $2bn eight years later. McCourt’s second wife, the Texan Monica Algarra, is a riding enthusiast and McCourt found himself bitten by the equestrian bug. Showjumping, he declared, had “a great foundation in place and history and legacy”, and from the outset he was determined to build the tour into “a truly global brand”. Swiss watchmaker Longines came in as “title partner”, and the tone elevated further still.

But crucially, in 2016, Tops and McCourt added an elite dimension to their creation: the introduction of the Global Champions League, a team contest loosely modelled on  sports like baseball and American football, in which 16 teams (of six riders each) reportedly pay €2m to enter and chase a pot of €12m. Privately wealthy riders such as Jennifer Gates, prepared to contribute at least half a million euros to set up a team, are thus able to engineer a spot to ride against the big names in the individual Grand Prix events at the GCT meetings.

“There can only be a positive to these people coming into the sport,” believes the young Irishman Michael Duffy, who started out with little in the way of financial advantages but whose sheer ability has resulted in him riding for Frank McCourt’s GCL team, the Miami Celtics, and Ireland’s Tokyo Olympic team. “Jumping with people like Jessica and Jennifer is brilliant. It’s just not possible to ride a horse to that level without talent. The Global Champions League has massively helped to raise the profile of the sport, especially in areas such as Shanghai, which traditionally didn’t have a big showjumping scene. By going to new countries and maintaining an elite level we are encouraging more of a following and exposing the sport to new markets.”

In terms of sponsorship and brands, it has become so sexy, and the prize money is extraordinary” Phoebe Oliver, equestrian PR specialist

“It’s a niche within a niche,” counters Simon Brooks-Ward, whose HPower Group organises major ticketed equestrian events including the Royal Windsor Horse Show and The London International Horse Show . He also advised on the staging of the equestrian events at the 2012 Olympics where Zara Tindall won a silver medal with the British eventing team. Brooks-Ward feels strongly that while “in every sport it’s good to have a bit of glitter and stardust, you have to have a bedrock of events with a sense of history. The Longines Global Champions Tour has a very different business model to ours. London International Horse Show is based on 90,000 people buying tickets, whereas the GCT is based on wealthy patrons and people who are prepared to deal in horses. They draw a maximum audience of around 2,000 to 3,000. It’s not for the general populace.”

in the training arena at Haras de Lécaude, near Deauville, Normandy

But the appeal is increasing for a wider audience. The dazzling Concours Hippique International Officiel takes place at Aachen in Germany every summer in front of 40,000 spectators who must be one of the best-dressed and most prosperous crowds in Europe. Often described as the equivalent of Wimbledon in Germany’s sporting and social calendar, it culminates in showjumping’s Rolex Grand Prix, worth €330,000. Hermès, whose name has been inextricably linked with equestrianism since it was founded in 1837, has also created an annual show inside the vast halls of the Grand Palais in Paris. The Saut Hermès event debuted in April 2010 and, until Covid-19 intervened, had become the European horse show to be seen at.

And seen they are. Those chic white breeches and black leather boots present an indisputably glamorous uniform. Jessica Springsteen wears shirts and breeches made by Cavalleria Toscana , and boots tailor-made by Italian bootmaker Parlanti , which have magnets on the bottom that stick to her stirrups “so that I don’t lose a stirrup when I’m riding around the ring”. Mathilde Pinault and Flore Giraud, who chooses her equipment “for sport but also for elegance”, have both modelled for the equestrian fashion house Miasuki , and Giraud is also an ambassador for Richard Mille .

“In terms of sponsorship and brands, it has become so sexy, and the prize money is extraordinary. I don’t think there is anything else that can touch it,” says equestrian PR specialist Phoebe Oliver . Although she fears that some of the next generation coming into the sport may “enjoy the competing, the socialising and travel perhaps more than the actual riding itself”, she also believes that the hours of training required to reach the highest level will always weed out the dilettantes from the genuine contenders.

“Who does not dream about the Olympics?” says Flore Giraud, whose great ambition is to ride for France in the Paris Olympiad in 2024. “Our sport is magic because of them, and the strength of a rider and horse is a mixture of magical elements… and of hard work.”

Rapper Kid Cudi performs onstage during Weekend 2 - Day 3 of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at Empire Polo Club on April 21, 2024 in Indio, California.

Kid Cudi has canceled his tour after he broke his foot when he jumped off the Coachella stage.

The rapper took to Instagram to share the news two days after he told his fans he had broken his foot at the musical festival. He explained that the injury was worse than he originally thought and had to undergo surgery for it.

Cudi announced he had broken his foot on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

“Hey guys, so I broke my foot today at the show. just leavin the hospital. Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy. I wanna thank u all for ur concerns and well wishes!! I love yall man. I heard yall still ragin when I was offstage. Made me smile big,” the rapper posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday.

In another video, he laughed about the Sunday incident when recalling what happened: “This is what happens when a 40-year-old man tries to prance around off stage like he’s 26 like he used to do back in the day. I learned a valuable lesson: no more prancing around, jumping off stages. I’m hoping that I be healed up in time for tour. That’s the plan. I don’t want to let you guys down. So that’s what we’re aiming for. Not cancelling anything just yet. Just going to wait and see how things go.”

He reiterated that he was okay but “a little sore.” “Yesterday was a lot of pain. But I’m doing better now… Apparently I broke something in my heel. This is a major setback. Don’t worry. I’m going to bounce back,” he said before joking, “Engage the rage, but not at 40.”

Cudi was announced as a part of Coachella’s Weekend Two lineup. The headliners for both weekends, which took place April 12-14 and April 19-21, were Lana Del Rey and Tyler, the Creator on Saturday and Doja Cat on Sunday. No Doubt also reunited for Saturday night performances both weekends, with Olivia Rodrigo joining them during the first weekend.

During this year’s festival, performances were full of surprise guests. Will Smith surprised the audience as a special guest joining J Balvin to perform his hit song “Men in Black,” from his 1997 box office blockbuster film of the same name.

Billie Eilish, Shakira and Paris Hilton were also among other surprise performers. Meanwhile, when Kesha performed her hit song “TiK ToK” with Reneé Rapp, she  changed the lyrics  to say “fuck P. Diddy.”

Nelly Korda continues to solidify standing atop latest Olympic Golf Ranking Update

Juliana hung has record-setting first round at the ioa championship despite difficult conditions.

  • Nelly Korda

Nelly Korda

Reigning Olympic gold medalist Nelly Korda has continued to solidify her place at the top of both the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and Olympic Golf Rankings, as she has collected five straight victories in her last five starts on the LPGA Tour.

Korda began her run with a playoff win over Lydia Ko in her hometown of Bradenton, Florida, at the LPGA Drive On Championship at Bradenton Country Club, and after a seven-week break from competition, picked up another title at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship, this time winning in a one-hole playoff over Ryann O’Toole at Palos Verdes Golf Club in California.

She won again the next week at the Ford Championship presented by KCC after carding a final-round 65 in dreary conditions at Seville Golf and Country Club in Gilbert, Arizona, and then defeated Leona Maguire 4 and 3 in the championship match at the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards, her 12th career LPGA Tour title.

Korda went on to capture her second major title last week at The Chevron Championship, winning by two shots over Maja Stark at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. With the win, the 25-year-old became just the third player since 1978 to win five straight tournaments on the LPGA Tour, joining Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam, and was the first player since herself in 2021 to win a major championship and the event before.

Korda is one of four Americans currently ranked inside the top 15 of the Olympic Golf Ranking. Lilia Vu, who won four times during the 2023 season, including two major championships, has been dealing with a back injury this year but has still managed to remain second in the standings.

Last year’s CPKC Women’s Open champion, Megan Khang, is sitting at 13th in the Olympic Golf Ranking with her good friend and UCLA alum Alison Lee right behind her in the 14th position. Khang has earned three top-15 results so far this year, the best of which is a solo third that came at the LPGA Drive On Championship, while Lee has recorded two top-10 finishes, tying for third at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship and tying for eighth at the Ford Championship presented by KCC.

But the United States isn’t the only country with more than two representatives inside the top 15 of the Rolex Rankings.

The Republic of Korea has had plenty of success in previous Olympic Games, as Inbee Park took home the gold medal in 2016 in Rio. As of April 23, Jin Young Ko and Hyo Joo Kim are sitting at seventh and 10th, respectively, in the Olympic Golf Ranking, while Amy Yang is ranked 15th.

Ko has played in just three events this year after a two-win season in 2023, finishing T20, T8 and then missing the cut in the three tournaments in which she has competed in 2024. Kim has recorded two top-10 finishes in six starts this season, tying for fifth at the Honda LPGA Thailand and tying for eighth at the Ford Championship presented by KCC in March. She picked up her sixth career LPGA Tour victory last fall at The Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America.

Yang won the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in November 2023 at Tiburón Golf Club after recording a four-day total of 27-under. It’s been a slow start to the 2024 LPGA Tour season for the 34-year-old, whose best finish this year is a tie for 22nd that came at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions.

While there hasn’t been any substantially significant movement in the Olympic Golf Ranking in recent weeks, Stark did move ahead of fellow Swede Linn Grant in the standings after her runner-up finish at The Chevron Championship. The 24-year-old was ranked 26th in the Olympic Golf Ranking as of April 15, while Grant was in 21st. But after her solid showing at The Club at the Carlton Woods, Stark is now ranked 22nd, one spot ahead of Grant, who is currently ranked 23rd.
