GUIMARAS TRAVEL GUIDE | Itinerary + Budget + Map [UPDATED 2022]

Guimaras Travel Guide Blog Itinerary Map

Guimaras is an island province located in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. It is sandwiched by the province of Iloilo and Negros Occidental. The island is known for its fine, white sand beaches and its sweet mangoes—which is renowned worldwide. Tourist and backpackers flock the island especially during summer for its crystalline waters and a few historical sites. Most travelers usually consider Guimaras as a day-tour destination forming the usual side-trip from Iloilo City, but with this travel guide, I’ll let you in on a little secret, the province has a lot more to offer more than its usual tourist spots and frequented beaches. Check out the 2-day and 3-day itineraries I’ve prepared for those wanting a more intensive Guimaras tour.

HOW TO GET TO GUIMARAS

There are two ways to reach the island of Guimaras. The popular route is through its western side, via Iloilo City. From the Ortiz dock, pump boats and ferries ply the Iloilo Strait regularly to Jordan Port in Guimaras. The second route is via the towns of Palupandan and Valladolid in Negros Occidental. There are daily ferries that cross the Guimaras Strait to the wharfs in San Lorenzo. Note that you would need to get a ride, most probably through a habal-habal , to the town of Jordan before you can avail of tours.

GETTING AROUND GUIMARAS

Getting Around Guimaras

Tricycles, jeepneys, multicabs, and single motorcycles—locally called habal-habal— are the main mode of transportation in Guimaras. Short distances can be covered by either tricycles or motorbikes, but for long distances, jeepneys are the way to go. Patience would be needed for jeepneys though, as it takes quite a while before they pass, and when they do, they’re usually full. If you’re the adventurous type, riding on the roof—topload-style—is an option you can consider.

GUIMARAS ORGANIZED / PACKAGED TOURS

Guimaras Organized Tours

It’s kinda hard to tour Guimaras DIY-style due to the lack of public transportation in the province. The best way to visit the usual tourist spots in Guimaras is by renting a motorbike, tricycle, or multicab along with a guide. These are easy to come by once you dock at Jordan Port as they would practically swarm over tourists as soon as they disembark from the port. Land tour tricycle rates (good for 3 to 4pax) usually start at ₱1,200.00 to ₱1,500.00 (depending on the places you wish to visit).   Recommended Tour Guide: Cherald Padojenog (0908) 474-8122 Book a Tour Online: Klook Guimaras Private Day Tour

WHERE TO STAY IN GUIMARAS

Most accommodations in Guimaras are situated near its coastal areas since the province has a lot of beautiful beaches. High-end resorts go side-by-side with backpacker-friendly ones so picking a place to stay that’s right for your budget wouldn’t be a problem. For visitors wanting a cheaper accommodation and wouldn’t mind being a bit far from the beach, one can go for the few inland lodgings in the province.

WHERE TO EAT IN GUIMARAS

Besides its mangos, Guimaras isn’t really known for culinary tradition. There’s the usual carinderias that serves local dishes like kansi , batchoy, and the usual Filipino fares but other than that, you won’t find any McDonald’s or fancy restaurants in the province. But that was before. In 2019, Jollibee opened its doors in Guimaras, more food places are now opening up.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN GUIMARAS

Guimaras is famous for its white sand beaches, but besides those, the province also offers other places of interests like historical sites, hiking trails, adventure resorts, and even a monastery. Guimaras island hopping tours are also available in the town of Nueva Valencia, with the following rates: 6 Persons | First Hour: ₱400.00 | Succeeding Hour: ₱200.00 10 Persons | First Hour: ₱600.00 | Succeeding Hour: ₱200.00 ISLAND HOPPING PHOTOS BY BLISSFULGURO

WHAT TO BUY IN GUIMARAS

Tourist and travelers won’t be disappointed in bringing home something after visiting Guimaras. There are not that many souvenir shops in the island but there are quite a few unique items and products you can bring home as pasalubong to your friends and family, besides baskets and baskets of mangos.

GUIMARAS SAMPLE ITINERARIES

Most tourists usually go to Guimaras for day tours, but the province has a lot more to offer besides the usual countryside tours outlined by guides at Jordan Port. Hi Ian, unfortunately, we cannot afford the rates of Isla Naburot :(

Thanks sa link Kuya! ;D

Salamat din Greg! :)

Yes the rates are updated for this year :)

Hi, from dumaguete going to guimaras pwede ba magdala ng car?

Hi, I'm not sure if there are ferries going from Dumaguete to Guimaras, as far as I know, wala po

From Dumaguete , drive to bacolod. Take the roro to dumangas, iloilo. Drive to iloilo city and take ff cruz shipping --the only roro to guimaras. :)

That's very helpful for those wanting to bring their car to Guimaras! Thanks Cielo :)

Thanks lakad pilipinas for this post. It guided me on our guimaras trip.

No problem Cielo, hope you had a blast with your Guimaras tour!

I highly recommend Kuya Michael he is our Tourist guide/ Tricycle driver/ Photographer, when we visit Guimaras last June 17, 2015. He is very nice and honest. Feel free to call him next time you visit Guimaras. He will fetch you on time at Jordan Wharf and greeted you with his warm smile. Here is the Contact no. of Kuya Michael Selorico -- 0908 324 6835.

how much is the estimated cost of the 3day tour?

How much is the esitmated cost for 3 day tour?

Hi Roy, the reason I really didn't put a budget in the itinerary and guide was due to the fact that tourists have different ways of travelling. So your budget would really depend where you're gonna be staying and where you would be eating out. :)

hi there! thank you for the very informative blog. I just want to ask is it possible to tour around (land tour) in the afternoon perhaps 3pm onwards? How much time needed for a land tour? And also how about the island tour? thank you so much in advance

You can definitely do the land tour, you'd just have to really rush it though, so no more beach time. For the Guimaras island hopping tour, that I'm not sure if it is possible

I'm also interested in the land tour 3pm onwards. Is this feasible? What time is the last boat from Guimaras back to Ilo-Ilo? Thanks!

The last boat from Guimaras to Iloilo is at 6:30 PM :)

Hi! If I'll be coming from the airport at 10AM, is it possible to squeeze an island tour and land tour all in one day? Thanks!

I think you'd have to choose between and island tour and a land tour.

This is rather helpful :)

Thank you Dyown! Enjoy Guimaras!

Hi! What attractions in Guimaras (near jordan wharf) would you recommend best for a one day tour? Thank u. :)

Hi, you can do visit almost all of the tourist spots in Guimaras for a one day tour

Is it possible to have the island tour in the morning and the land tour in the afternoon? I will be coming from Ortiz Wharf and am planning to get back in Iloilo City by 6PM. Thanks

It is a bit tight, but I think it can be done

Hi im coming from pulupandan going raymen guimaras...how to get there.

HI Muath, where exactly is Pulupandan?

I recently went to Guimaras last Holy Week 2016. It was amazing! The island was perfect and my guide was awesome. I wrote about my experience here: Guimaras Travel Guide for 2016 . That might help you when you visit the island. Salamat po! :)

Hi mgkano ang estimated budget sa iloilo tour with guimaras? Thanks

Hi Aster, haven't done an Iloilo Guide yet, but I will soon, including the budget for Guimaras

Hello! May I ask what software you are using to edit your photos? Thanks!

Hi Jep, I use Adobe Photoshop :)

Can you recommend a contact person for an island day tour? - Jayson

Yes, please read the tour guide section above :)

Thanks for this blog very informative. I already booked our 2 days and 1 night stay in Guimaras on December with my family. Ill be taking our car so we can maximize our land tour for two days. I already confirmed that RORO is availabe from Lapuz wharf-iloilo going to Guimaras at 500 pesos for SUV.Were all excited!!

Wow! Good luck and have fun on your Guimaras adventure!

is there a place to stay po like day tour lang, rent ng cottage then pwede maligo for certain period of time lang po? since ang accommodation po namin is sa city proper ng Iloilo and we just want to go to guimaras for land tour and makaligo sa beach. tia.

Hi, you may stay for a few hours along the huts at Raymen Beach

Hi How much is the estimated budget for the itinerary?

Hi Hyacinth! Will update this with travel budget soon :)

Hi! Nice blog! Any idea with motorbike rentals in guimaras? We plan to take our motorbike but i read an article is prohibited by coastguard.

Hi Medy, I used to see people load motorbikes aboard the boats. I just don't know how it is now.

Hi, Very helpful post. I'm very curious about Netong's. What time do they open/close?

Netong's batchoy in Iloilo? They open at 7am and close at 7pm :)

Hi! Can I ask for updated price for 1 day tour(Guimaras)? Thanks!

Hi, the daytour for Guimaras using a tricycle is still the same at 1,200

Meron din po sa Klook if you want to book online: https://www.klook.com/en-PH/activity/28524-guimaras-island-private-day-tour-iloilo/?aid=824

Alubihod Beach

Alubihod Beach, situated in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, features cream-colored shores, azure waters, and unique rock formations that dot the beach. This is one of the underrated beach destinations in the Philippines that you should visit when in Guimaras.

This beach is the usual jump-off point for Philippine island hopping in Guimaras. Many of the nearby islets can be reached by boat in just 15-30 minutes, and you can even spot some of them right from the beach, such as Turtle Island and Baras Beach. You will also find several resorts near Alubihod Beach with various accommodations for different budgets and preferences and affordable Filipino restaurants.

Natago Beach

The name "Natago" is derived from the world translated to "hidden" because the beach is tucked between two mountains, giving it a secluded and concealed location. It's a perfect beach destination if you want a peaceful retreat away from the city.

You can indulge in various enjoyable activities, such as swimming in its clear waters, snorkeling, and taking leisurely walks along the shore and a garden with a view of the sea. Natago Beach is also the location of a privately-owned resort with overlooking sea views from the rooms.

In Taklong Island National Marine Reserve (TINMR), there are only a few facilities, and they use battery-stored electricity from solar panels to light up at night, which is why it's one of the must-visit eco-tourism sites in the Philippines .

In addition to the beautiful white-sand beaches, sandbars, and eco-trail, you can also visit several caves. As you wander around, you will come across various facilities within TINMR, such as the UP-Visayas Marine Station, a gazebo, a floating guardhouse, a conference room, an eco-trail, a watchtower providing a 360-degree view, and an information center. Take the chance to swim in the shallow waters by the floating cottage.

7. Isla Naburot

Isla Naburot, located in the municipality of Jordan, is a private island resort with a heartwarming backstory. It was originally built as a vacation home for the owners. With six huts or villas, each meant for one of the six children in the family. The tranquil retreat gained popularity, and so they opened the resort to guests.

The accommodations are simple, and while they have solar power, electricity may only be available sometimes. The main hall is a charming open-air wooden structure. The island's untouched beauty offers breathtaking nature views, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway off the grid. During your stay, you can enjoy fun activities like swimming and snorkeling.

Baras Cave in Jordan, Guimaras, is another well-liked tourist attraction on the island. This small cave has two entrances that are reachable by boat. The enchanting Baras Cave has contrasting features, such as the mix of sharp and smooth stones, shallow and deep lagoon areas, and the interplay of light and dark through several small cave entrances.

Inside the cave, you will be greeted with a sight of stunning stalactites and stalagmites. It's a great spot for swimming. You can explore and swim inside the cave and appreciate the stunning rock formations. Remember to wear appropriate footwear for a safe and enjoyable adventure.

Located in Nueva Valencia in Guimaras, the Guimaras Floating Cottage sits on clear waters, offering a peaceful escape surrounded by the nearby islands. Here, you can swim and snorkel to explore the vibrant marine life beneath you or relax on the cottage deck, savoring the breathtaking ocean views.

The floating cottage accommodates up to 50 people, and during the hot summer, it's best to stay for a couple of hours to give others a chance. However, if you wish to stay longer, you are welcome to do so, but overnight stays are not allowed. You don't need to worry about food, as a delightful selection is available, including their special coconut halo-halo.

Trappist Monastery

The Trappist Monastery & Pasalubong Center in Jordan, Guimaras, is a must-add to your itinerary for a unique spiritual experience. You can have some peace and quiet surrounded by beautiful architecture. In their spare time, the monks craft goodies and souvenir items, perfect as pasalubong or mementos of your trip.

In their Pasalubong Center, you will find sweet mangoes and mango-infused treats in almost all their food items. 15 Best GUIMARAS TOURIST SPOTS (Islands, Beaches & Heritage)

 alt=

Guimaras is one of my favorite places to relax and unwind. I had a chance to travel to this province during a tumultuous time in my life when I just wanted to be away from the bustle of the city. Its rich nature helped me to be calm and cope with everything I’ve gone through. I truly recommend that you also visit this island.

Tucked in between the beautiful provinces of Bacolod and Iloilo is an absolutely stunning hidden paradise called Guimaras Island. Above anything else, Guimaras is known and famous for producing some of the sweetest mangoes in the world and hence dubbed the “ Mango Capital of the Philippines ”.

Guimaras Mangoes are the country’s best export quality mangoes and we take pride in helping to preserve and promote its unparalleled taste to the whole world. But aside from the heavenly sweet mangoes of Guimaras, the island also boasts some of the most beautiful tourist attractions that every traveler shouldn’t miss! From breathtaking islands, white-sand beaches, and awe-inspiring rock formations, I’m sure that the adventurer within you will absolutely have a great time. Oh, and also add the amazing cultural and historical landmarks of Guimaras Island to your itinerary because they too are definitely worth visiting.

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your things, prepare your bags, and buckle up because you’re going on another unforgettable adventure with me as we both explore the 15 Best Tourist Spots in Guimaras!

1. Taklong Island National Marine Reserve

The first one on the list is none other than Taklong Island National Marine Reserve or TINMAR, which is one of the most important marine protected areas in the Philippines .

You can experience this marine reserve through island hopping offered by resorts around Nueva Valencia. In my case, I did island hopping when I visited Nature’s Eye Resort.

Nature's Eye Resort Guimaras

This marine reserve is composed of two (2) major islands and 37 smaller islets. Here, you will surely have a great time exploring the white sand beaches, sandbars, hidden coves, and stunning rock formations scattered all around the island. You can also witness the abundance of flora and fauna within TINMAR, so make sure to breathe in all the fresh air you can get! Oh, and there’s also a lighthouse located on top of one of the hills on the island, so after spending the day touring around TINMAR, make sure to drop by this lighthouse to watch the mesmerizing view of the sunset!

The University of the Philippines is primarily maintaining Taklong Island National Marine Reserve – Visayas (UPV), they have available dorm-type rooms for those who wish to spend the night.

2. Nature’s Eye Beach Resort

Up next, Nature’s Eye Beach Resort will undoubtedly be one of the most memorable highlights of your Guimaras trip because you will really feel like you’re at the center of paradise. This beach resort is located at Nueva Valencia , allowing guests to conveniently access many of the beautiful tourist spots of Guimaras Island. Aside from the exclusive breathtaking views that you can enjoy during your stay here at Nature’s Eye Beach Resort, you will also love all the wonderful facilities and amenities of the resort!

Nature's Eye Resort Guimaras

As part of your stay, have exclusive access to the private beach with creamy white sands, turquoise waters, and beautiful rock formations. Oh, and make sure to try some of the cool and exciting activities such as swimming, snorkeling, island hopping, and more! CHECK ROOM RATES HERE

I had a great time in this resort when I visited Guimaras last year. Some of the rooms are specially designed with terraces and balconies overlooking the majestic view of the ocean. Of course, Nature’s Eye Beach Resort guarantees that you will have a memorable vacation with the highest degree of comfort and convenience within your reach. Finally, be sure not to miss out on the seafood. Yum!

3. Alubihod Beach

Up next, one of the most charming tourist spots you shouldn’t miss in Guimaras is Alubihod Beach. This one’s perfect for everyone who simply wants to enjoy the peace and serenity of a tropical paradise. The powdery creamy white sand of Alubihod Beach along with the turquoise blue ocean waters and beautiful rock formations surely is a sight you shouldn’t miss!

Take a sip of your favorite drink as you catch up with friends in one of the Nipa Huts along the beach! Oh, and Alubihod Beach is also known for fun recreational activities such as beach volleyball, frisbee, snorkeling, and more. It’s also a popular jump-off point for exciting island hopping activities to nearby islands like Baras Beach, Turtle Island, Ave Maria Island, Tatlong Pulo, and more!

4. Ave Maria Island

Ah, since we’re already at Alubihod Beach, we’ll now be heading to Ave Maria Island which can already be seen from the beach itself! It’s a relatively small island with a powdery white sand beach where you can freely soak in the surrounding crystal clear waters!

Ave Maria Island

You can also try and snorkel around the area to see lots of colorful marine animals during your stay. But if you prefer to simply relax, feel the heat of the sun, and work on your tan, then Ave Maria Island is definitely the perfect spot for you! Oh, and there are no cottages or lodging facilities available within the island since it’s only usually included in island hopping tour packages, so I suggest that you maximize your time around this island.

5. Tatlong Pulo Beach

Right after Ave Maria Island, we’ll now jump off to one of Guimaras Island’s iconic attractions! Tatlong Pulo Beach is named after the three (3) majestic limestone karst formations facing the white-sand beach. Even though it is very popular among tourists, Tatlong Pulo is still considered a hidden paradise because it is away from all the noise and bustle of the city.

Tatlong Pulo Beach

Here, you can have your much-needed vacation as you enjoy the breeze of the tropical trees and the rustling ocean waves all to yourself. Tatlong Pulo Beach is absolutely elegant so if you’re looking for the perfect Instagram-worthy spot in Guimaras, this is definitely the one!

6. Guisi Lighthouse

And there it is! Your trip to Guimaras wouldn’t be complete if you were not able to visit the iconic Guisi Lighthouse. This 18th Century Spanish Colonial Lighthouse considered the 2nd oldest lighthouse in the Philippines, is one of the most significant historical landmarks in Guimaras as it guided mariners to safely pass through the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait for centuries.

Guisi Lighthouse

If you really want to take your adventure to the next level, I suggest that you take on the challenge of overcoming the 15-minute uphill trek to reach the top of Guisi Lighthouse! Trust me, your efforts will all be worth it once you see the breathtaking view of the whole beachscape and the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait with your own eyes. Oh, and exploring the ruins of the Guisi Lighthouse is surely another worthy experience you won’t regret, so don’t miss out!

7. Tando Beach

Next up, if you’re a fan of exploring hidden pristine islands and beaches, then Tando Beach is definitely perfect for you. It’s situated in Nueva Valencia, away from all the buzz and noise of the city. And since Tando Beach is relatively underdeveloped, there are still not a lot of tourists who discovered this mesmerizing paradise.

Tando Beach

So if you’re one of the lucky ones who managed to stumble upon Tando Beach, you’ll get to enjoy its raw and natural beauty by yourself! Imagine sipping your favorite cocktail while chilling at a hammock, feeling the cool breeze of the ocean waves, and enjoying the view of the beautiful rock formations, creamy white sands, and emerald green waters. Ah, what a life!

8. Guisi Beach

Walking along the shores of Guisi Beach alone is already an amazing experience when you visit the famous Guisi Lighthouse because you can witness the beauty of the golden creamy sands and the emerald green waters of the beach.

Of course, you can also try some of the fun and exciting activities here in Guisi Beach such as snorkeling, beach bumming, swimming, and more. Oh, and be sure not to miss out on taking pictures with the famous Guisi Rock Formations that can be found at both ends of the beach! These are absolutely one of the most eye-catching natural attractions that are worth seeing.

9. San Lorenzo Windmills (Guimaras Windmills)

Another must-visit tourist destination in Guimaras is the famous San Lorenzo Windmills or more popularly known as the Guimaras Windmills. The amazing thing about this wind farm is that it’s able to help boost both Guimaras Island’s tourism and economy, being able to produce approximately 54 megawatts of renewable energy.

San Lorenzo Windmills

It stretches for as long as 14 kilometers and has a total of 27 turbines each standing at about 404 feet tall. Indeed, what a breathtaking sight it really is to see all these majestic wind turbines along with the scenic landscape of Guimaras. Oh, and just a quick tip, watch the mesmerizing view of the sunset here at the San Lorenzo Wind Farm to take awesome and unforgettable photos!

10. Trappist Monastery & Pasalubong Center

The Trappist Monastery is one of the best spots in Guimaras to buy pasalubong and some delicious treats to bring home. It is managed by the monks of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance. They are known to follow the laws and teachings of St. Benedict and are famous for their extreme discipline and austerity.

The monastery is located in Barangay San Miguel, Jordan , which is very accessible through different types of transportation. Tourists can freely explore the monastery grounds and even talk to the monks and nuns living there, some even visit the Trappist Monastery to ask them for wise thoughts and advice. To earn a living, the monks are selling Visayas delicacies such as piaya, jellies, jams, candies, and other sweets. So be sure to drop by when you’re around!

11. Malingin Island

Next on our list is another small yet beautiful island located in Nueva Valencia. Malingin Island is also one of the undeveloped island destinations in Guimaras so you’ll definitely get to see it in its raw and pristine state. The white-sand beach, the rugged rock formations, and the abundant trees on the island are very refreshing sights to enjoy.

During your island hopping activities, you can stop by this island for a quick while and have a nice time walking along the shores, swimming, beach bumming, and even snorkeling. It’s also a wonderful and romantic spot to watch the sunset, so be sure to check it out!

12. Navalas Church

Ah, after visiting many of Guimaras Island’s top tourist destinations, one place we should never miss out on is the famous Navalas Church. It is the most significant religious landmark in Guimaras, being the oldest heritage church on the island. It was built in 1880 and has been the center of religion in Buenavista, Guimaras, ever since the Spanish Colonial Period.

Navalas Church

Exploring this magnificent historical building will really bring you back to the old times and I’m sure that you can’t help but be fascinated by its beauty. The Navalas Church is built of stones and has a beautiful garden where you can freely walk around and explore. Taking a picture here would be a great souvenir idea so make sure to take some!

13. Unisan Island

Located right beside Malingin Island is another natural wonder worth visiting, and that’s the one and only Unisan Island. Characterized by its stunning beachscape with white sands, crystal clear waters, and beautiful rock formations, I’m sure that you’ll have a great time relaxing and enjoying nature in this wonder.

Just like Malingin Island, this one’s also undeveloped so expect that there won’t be any lodging facilities or establishments around, just pure nature. It is indeed a perfect place to simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the astounding view of paradise!

14. Balaan Bukid

Another important religious destination in Guimaras is the Balaan Bukid of Jordan. This is a famous pilgrimage site for Roman Catholic Filipinos during the Holy Week season, especially for everyone who’s fulfilling the tradition of Visita Iglesia. Balaan Bukid can be easily reached by boat, but to reach the top, you first have to hike for about 45 minutes.

Balaan Bukid

Photo by Guimarasnon Around the World

On the way to the top, the pilgrims will encounter the 14 Ways of the Cross which depicts the important events in the life of Jesus Christ. Eventually, you will reach the top where the Chapel of Ave Maria Purisima can be found. It’s a great place to offer prayers and reflections simply because of the peace and tranquility of the place, as well as the stunning scenery on top. So for everyone who would like to cure their souls and at the same time have an amazing adventure, this is the perfect place to visit!

15. Fairy Castle Rock Formation

Finally, our last destination for our Guimaras Island adventure is known as the Fairy Castle Rock Formation. I know, that’s quite an interesting name, isn’t it? Well, it’s because this rock formation islet looks like a fairy’s fantasy castle! It’s a nice addition to island hopping activities especially because this is truly an Instagram-worthy attraction. So aside from having a great time enjoying the crystalline waters, white sands, and beautiful rock formations, make sure to also take lots and lots of pictures!

Imagine this:

A giant theme park dedicated to mangoes…

Where people dance in bright yellow dresses, carrying basketfuls of the sweet fruit…

Where you can eat as many mangoes as you want, and everywhere you look it’s all mango, mango mango!

Well… guess what?

You don’t have to imagine because it’s a real place!

Guimaras is the mango capital of the Philippines. And it’s one of the quirkiest provinces I’ve ever been to.

In this complete Guimaras travel guide , I’ll go over everything you need to know if you want to visit too!

I’ll go over:

  • Guimaras travel facts
  • How to get to the island
  • How to get around the island
  • Where to stay
  • A Guimaras travel map
  • All about the Manggahan festival
  • A list of things to do in Guimaras
  • A sample Guimaras budget and itinerary

And a bunch of FAQs you need to know before visiting Guimaras.

Let’s dive in!

Guimaras Travel Facts – 4 Things Travelers Need to Know About the Island

Before jumping into the details of how to get there and what to do, let me start by sharing some Guimaras travel facts to get you excited!

Guimaras Travel Facts #1 – Guimaras Mangoes are NOT a Gimmick!

guimaras tourist map

Everyone knows that Guimaras is the mango capital of the Philippines.

But you might be wondering if it’s all a gimmick.

I know that’s what I was thinking when I was planning my trip.

Turns out, it’s not a gimmick at all!

The whole island breathes mangoes. You’ll find plantation after plantation after plantation here.

Someone even told me that buying mangoes in Guimaras is expensive because everyone has their own trees!

Guimaras Travel Facts #2 – Guimaras is a Biking Island

One of my biggest regrets while on Guimaras was not being able to ride a bicycle.

Guimaras is next door to Ilo-Ilo, the bicycle capital of the Philippines. So it’s no surprise that the bike frenzy spread to Guimaras!

In Guimaras, you can rent bicycles, they have a bike park, and, if you’re fit enough, you can even bike around the whole island.

This island is a must-visit not only for mango lovers but for bike lovers as well.

Guimaras Travel Facts #3 – Guimaras is MORE Than Just Mangoes

guimaras tourist map

Just because the island breathes mangoes doesn’t mean that’s all they’ve got.

So if you can’t come during mango season, don’t fret!

As you’ll see when we get to the thing to do section, there are plenty of cool spots all over Guimaras that have nothing to do with mangoes.

They have beaches, windmills, historic landmarks, and some cool places.

Guimaras Travel Facts #4 – Guimaras is Still a Hidden Gem

guimaras tourist map

While most Filipinos have heard about this island and its mangoes, only a handful have been here.

And even when I visited during the mango season, it wasn’t nearly as crowded as I was expecting it to be.

Most visitors I came across were just from Ilo-Ilo across the sea.

Guimaras is still under the radar for most tourists, making it a great backpackers’ destination!

I hope those facts got you excited. But now let’s get into the planning bits.

Firstly, how exactly do you get to this island?

How to Get to Guimaras

guimaras tourist map

There are two entry points into Guimaras:

  • Ilo-Ilo City (most popular for tourists)
  • Pulupandan (near Bacolod)

Guimaras does not have an airport, so the only way to get here is by hopping on a ferry.

How to Get to Guimaras from Ilo-Ilo

There are organized Guimaras tours that start in Ilo-Ilo. However, if you want to go DIY, here’s how to do it:

The fast boats to Guimaras leave from Parola Wharf in Ilo-Ilo City.

If you’re coming from the Ilo-Ilo airport, a taxi to Parola Wharf will cost you roughly php600-800.

When you get there, buy a ticket for Jordan Wharf (this is where most tourists want to go. The other wharf, Buenavista, is farther away from town).

Fare costs only php30/head, and the trip takes roughly 15 minutes.

Boats start leaving at around 4 a.m., and they leave at 30-minute intervals during rush hours, and 1-hour intervals in slower hours. The last trip is usually around 7 p.m.

Note: getting to Guimaras is easy. There are several boat companies ferrying passengers, so even though the schedules can be confusing, all you have to do is show up at Parola Wharf, and you’re sure to get a ride.

Also, I’d advise against booking ahead. In places like these, online bookings can be more confusing than helpful!

How to Get to Guimaras From Bacolod

The boats to Guimaras from Negros leave from Pulupandan wharf, which is about 45 minutes away from Bacolod.

Some jeepneys ply the Libertad Market – Pulupandan route, or you can hop on a southbound bus in Bacolod and ask them to drop you in Pulupandan.

From the Pulupandan Port, you can hop on a ferry that’ll take you to a pier on the east side of Guimaras (Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, or San Lorenzo) .

From there, you can take a tricycle to take you to Jordan (the capital and tourist center of Guimaras) .

There are about 3 trips a day, which costs php220/head and takes 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Note: Keep in mind that this route is NOT reliable. There are constant schedule changes, and sometimes no trips. There’s one company (Navimar Shipping) that plies this route regularly, and I highly recommend visiting their Facebook page for updates before going!

How to Get to Guimaras From Manila and Cebu

guimaras tourist map

If you’re coming to Guimaras from Manila, Cebu, or other parts of the Philippines, I highly recommend flying into Ilo-Ilo City instead of Bacolod.

My advice is to only use the Bacolod route if you’re already in Bacolod or somewhere else in Negros island like Dumaguete.

There are direct flights to the Ilo-Ilo airport from Manila, Cebu, Davao, Clark, General Santos, Puerto Princessa, and Cagayan de Oro.

Once you arrive at the Ilo-Ilo airport, see how to get to Guimaras from Ilo-Ilo above !

How to Get Around Guimaras

guimaras tourist map

Public transportation in Guimaras is limited. There are tricycles in towns, but to explore the island you can join an organized tour or rent a motorbike.

When you arrive in Guimaras, you’ll find a bunch of tricycles ready to take you on a land tour.

This tour will take you to almost all of Guimaras’ spots. These tours cost php1,500 – php1,800 per tricycle (which can fit up to 5 pax) and take around 8 hours.

If your accommodation is outside Jordan, you can also ask the tricycles to take you there for about php500. Going back, keep in mind that it may take some time before you can hail a tricycle or jeepney heading to Jordan.

You can also rent a motorbike for around php600/day, which I highly recommend doing.

Again, there isn’t a lot of public transportation in Guimaras. So having your own vehicle will save you lots of headaches.

You can ask around on Jordan Wharf for rentals, or you can contact this Facebook page ahead.

Finally, if you’re fit enough, you can also rent a bicycle!

Bicycles go for php500/day. You can message this page for more info.

Where to Stay in Guimaras

A word of advice:

If you’re coming to Guimaras during the Manggahan Festival, BOOK FAR AHEAD.

At least one month ahead.

When I was looking for places to stay 2 weeks before going, most of the budget options were fully booked.

All that I was left with was luxury resorts and rooms that were very far away from Jordan.

That said, here are the different areas you can consider staying while in Guimaras!

Where to Stay in Guimaras: Jordan – The Main Town

guimaras tourist map

As a backpacker, I highly recommend staying somewhere in Jordan.

Jordan is the heart of Guimaras. This is where all the action of the Manggahan Festival takes place. And unlike the rest of the island, public transportation and establishments are plentiful here.

There’s a mix of budget accommodations like Red Doorz, as well as more expensive hotels.

Keep in mind that if you’re staying outside Jordan, transportation can be tricky!

Budget stays:

  • Tiliponan Nipa Hut – Hut with bed and pillows inside. You will be right by the beach so you can hear the waves and the breeze. Common dining and bathroom area.
  • RedDoorz @ Southern Suites Guimaras – Great location and near the stores in the island. If you are on a budget this is a good place to stay. The rooms are clean and spacious, but the bathroom is shared.
  • CABRERA GUEST HOUSE exGREEN BAMBOO GUIMARAS – Situated in an area with stunning sunset. Clean rooms, a kitchen where you can cook and a nice balcony outside.
  • RedDoorz @ Marceily Point Resort Guimaras – Best location for accommodation. It is near the port and middle point for all the tourist spots. It has an own restaurant and cafe, too!
  • Tiliponan – Located in Buenavista. Enjoy a balcony sea view, access to a terrace, free private parking, shared kitchen and spacious rooms with flat-screen TVs.
  • The Lazy Tiki – Located at Buenavista. The place is clean, cozy, and close to nature with the beach in front, mangroves nearby, and other great places to visit in Guimaras island nearby.

Where to Stay in Guimaras: Alubihod Beach Resorts – Nueva Valencia

guimaras tourist map

About 20 minutes from Jordan is Alubihod Beach in Nueva Valencia.

This area is the most popular beach destination in Guimaras, and it’s also where the jump-off for island hopping tours is.

The most popular resort here is Raymen Beach Resort .

I didn’t stay the night here, but I went to the resort for island hopping, and it looks like it has good amenities.

There are several other inns and resorts in this area. So if you’re looking for a relaxing stay by the beach, this is a great area to stay in.

Other places to stay:

  • SunSea Resort – Located in Nueva Valencia Guimaras. Good ambience for relaxation. Superb deluxe rooms, clean pool, karaoke, billiards and kayaking also included.

Where to Stay in Guimaras: Where I Stayed – Charito’s Guest House (Nueva Valencia)

Because there were no more affordable options in Jordan, I stayed in an Airbnb 30 minutes away from Jordan.

The home was lovely, and Tita Charito was a very pleasant host. The rooms were only for 2 people, but she gladly accommodated us (we were 3) .

Keep in mind that this is a BNB, not a hotel or inn.

I’d give it 5-stars, but my only problem with the place was that it was so far off Jordan, and there were no establishments nearby.

We ended up renting a motorbike to deal with this, and things were okay. But if we had to commute, it would’ve been difficult.

Guimaras Travel Map

guimaras tourist map

A fun and informative travel map coming soon! For now, here’s a map of the municipalities!

There are 5 municipalities in Guimaras: Jordan, Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, San Lorenzo, and Buenavista.

Here’s a quick summary of each of them!

  • Jordan is the capital and busiest part of Guimaras. It’s where all the action during the Manggahan Festival happens, and is definitely the most lively part of the island.
  • Nueva Valencia is sort of the “beach capital” of Guimaras. There are several resorts here, and two of the most popular beaches in Guimaras are here (Alubihod and Guisi) . Nueva Valencia is probably the second most visited area in Guimaras after Jordan.
  • Sibunag is, to be completely honest, a place I don’t know much about. There aren’t many attractions to visit here, so I only passed by this area. For intrepid travelers, I’m SURE there are a lot of hidden spots here that you can go searching for!
  • San Lorenzo is found on the east side of Guimaras. It’s the home of the Guimaras Windmills, which are one of only two wind farms in the Visayas region. Aside from that, San Lorenzo is mostly unexplored by travelers.
  • Buenavista is on the north end of Guimaras. It’s a quiet and mostly empty place, and aside from the Roca Encantada mansion, isn’t very visited either.

As you can tell, there are still a lot of places in Guimaras that aren’t frequented by visitors.

But there’s one thing in Guimaras that almost everyone knows about.

I’m talking, of course, about the Maggahan Festival!

Guide to the Guimaras Manggahan Festival

guimaras tourist map

The Manggahan Festival is the main event of Guimaras.

Every April – May, Guimaras throws festivities for about a month.

At the center of the festival is the famous Mango-Eat-All-You-Can, which only happens at the very end of the festival.

Speaking of which…

The Guimaras Mango-Eat-All-You-Can

guimaras tourist map

You read that right.

There’s an event where you have 30 minutes to eat as many mangoes as you can.

It’s hosted in the Guimaras Provincial Capitol on the last few days of the festival, and it costs php150 to get in.

You’re given a plate with 3 mangoes on it.

And when the timer starts, you can start eating away!

Once you’re finished with the first 3, you can raise your hand and ask for another mango.

You might think you can gobble down 10 mangoes. But the truth is getting down 3 super plump sweet mangoes is already a challenge.

In the end, I ate only 4.

My sister ate 7, but the 30 minutes were up before she could ask for more!

Other Activities at the Manggahan Festival

guimaras tourist map

Aside from the Mango-Eat-All-You-Can (which only happens towards the end of the festival) , there are a lot of other activities that go on during the Maggahan Festival.

If you head to the Guimaras Capitol Grounds during this time, you’ll find stall after stall selling cheap mangoes and mango products.

The whole month is packed with other activities too. Expos, sports competitions, processions, pageants, and a lot more.

At the end of it all there’s a big fireworks display, which is a great way to say goodbye to the mango festival.

Things To Do in Guimaras (Aside from the Mango Festival)

Joining the mango festival is undoubtedly the #1 thing to do in Guimaras.

But what if you’re coming during the off-season?

Is Guimaras still worth a visit?

Absolutely!

Here are a few other cool things you can do in Guimaras.

Other Things to do in Guimaras: Go on a Land Tour

guimaras tourist map

For land tours, you can opt to hire a tricycle, or you can rent a motorbike and go visit the spots on your own.

The usual spots you’ll stop by are:

  • Smallest Plaza
  • San Lorenzo Wind Farm
  • Pitstop Restaurant (mango pizza)
  • Mango Plantation
  • Trappist Monastery
  • Guisi Lighthouse

All of these don’t have entrance fees except Guisi Lighthouse, which has a php10 environmental fee.

The Smallest Plaza is right outside the Jordan Wharf.

guimaras tourist map

I’m going to be super honest here… there’s nothing special about it. 😂

All it is is a small patch of grass with a blue signage. Behind is a small cemented area with a statue of Jose Rizal.

Apparently, it was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the smallest plaza in the world.

Nowadays, it’s just a quick stopover for pictures people make while coming from the Jordan Wharf.

The San Lorenzo Wind Farm is probably the coolest spot of the bunch. It’s one of only two wind farms in the Visayas, and the only one accessible for visitors.

guimaras tourist map

The windmills are so tall, and you can walk right underneath them! I love how they didn’t fence off these windmills like they did with the Nabas windmills.

San Lorenzo is further away from the other spots, so some tours don’t include this spot. Make sure you get one that does because it’s super cool!

The Pitstop Restaurant is located in the heart of Jordan town, and it’s famous for its mango pizza.

guimaras tourist map

Yup! Some lunatic decided it was a good idea to put mango on pizza.

But the real question is… does it taste good?

If anything, the cheese taste of the pizza overpowers the mango flavor.

I’d say it’s still a must-try, just for the kick of it. But it’s probably not something you’ll come back for!

Aside from the pizza, the Pitstop also serves mango bulalo, mango sisig, mango adobo, mango spaghetti (this was the worst of the bunch) , and a few other mango-themed dishes.

Next, the Mango Plantations.

guimaras tourist map

There are a bunch of plantations in Guimaras, but most visitors head over to the National Mango Research and Development Center.

It’s a HUGE property with endless rows of mango trees that are super fun to walk through.

The Trappist Monastery is right next to the mango plantation.

guimaras tourist map

It’s run by monks, who live in a community beside the monastery. They sell souvenirs and pasalubong products here.

Other than that, there’s not much else to say about this place. It’s close to the mango plantation, so you can stop by if you’d like to.

Finally, the Guisi Lighthouse was probably my favorite spot of the bunch.

guimaras tourist map

Built in 1894, the Guisi Lighthouse is the 2nd oldest lighthouse in the Philippines, and it sure looks like it!

The metal they used to build the lighthouse is completely rusted and falling apart. So much so that you’re no longer allowed to climb it.

Beside the lighthouse are ruins of a house which, I believe, was used by the people manning the lighthouse.

The Guisi Lighthouse is found in Nueva Valencia, which is also quite far away from the other spots.

After visiting the lighthouse, you can visit Tahi Beach, which has white sand just like Boracay !

Other Things to do in Guimaras: Island Hopping

guimaras tourist map

Another great thing you can do in Guimaras is to go island hopping.

Now, don’t expect an out-of-this-world experience like you get in places like Coron or El Nido .

Instead, Guimaras island hopping is a lot more simple.

The beauty of this is that the islands you visit are still relatively “untouched.” There are some cool-looking fish swimming very close to shore, a testament that not a lot of people go here yet.

Some organized tours include island hopping . But here’s how to do it in DIY mode:

The island hopping tours can be found at Raymen Beach Resort in Alubihod Beach, Nueva Valencia.

They have a pretty confusing pricing system, which I’ve put below:

The islands you visit also have some fees:

The sea turtle sanctuary was closed when we visited. And we gave a php100 donation in Lamurawan.

Rates are subject to change, so check out Raymen Beach Resort’s Facebook page for updates.

The island hopping is quite short compared to other island hoppings around the Philippines.

But after the tour, your guides will ask if you want to have lunch/dinner in a floating cottage (usually Charle’s floating cottage) .

guimaras tourist map

There’s a php150/head entrance fee, and the food here is quite pricey (most dishes cost php300+) .

The floating cottage does have a swimming area, dive board, Tarzan swing, and water slide though, so you can enjoy yourself for a longer time.

We ended up spending about 5 hours in total, but we were not charged for the additional hours for the boat (probably because we were at the floating cottage?) .

Other Things to Do in Guimaras: Road Trip!

guimaras tourist map

Source: Google Maps

If you’re renting a motorbike, Guimaras is small enough for you to drive around the whole island in about 3 hours.

Most roads are well-paved, and there are very few vehicles so it’s a lot of fun to drive around.

You can also stop by Roca Encatada in Buenavista, which is the heritage house of the Lopez clan.

guimaras tourist map

The entrance here is php50, and it’s a very peaceful place.

If you’re not joining a tricycle tour, you can also use this road trip to stop by the San Lorenzo Wind Farm and the Guisi Lighthouse.

Both of these spots are along the circumferential road, but quite far away from Jordan.

Other Things to Do in Guimaras: Bike!

Again, one of the things that I regret not being able to do was bike around Guimaras.

So don’t be like me.

Plan an extra day, rent a bicycle, and bike around!

Sample Guimaras Itineraries and Budgets!

I love planning trips from scratch.

But if you’re looking for some ideas on where to start, here are a few sample budgets and itineraries.

Guimaras 2-Day Budget and Itinerary – php2,985

For Guimaras, the truth is you can see almost everything in just 2 days.

Here’s how!

Note: this budget doesn’t include flights to Ilo-Ilo and a taxi to Parola Wharf. This budget also assumes you are staying in Jordan.

Day 1 – Arrival and Land Tour

Day 2 – Island Hopping, Mango Eat-All-You-Can

Guimaras 3-Day Itinerary Ideas

Again, you only really need 2 days to explore Guimaras.

If you’re staying for 3 days, I’d follow the itinerary above for the first two days. Then on the third day, I’d think about:

  • Renting a motorbike (php600/day) and exploring lesser-known spots like Roca Encantada, Tatlong Pulo Beach, Balaan Bukid, and whatever else you can find!
  • Renting a bicycle (php500/day) and biking to the Woodland Bike Park in Jordan
  • Just chilling by the beach

Guimaras Daytrip Budget and Itinerary

If you’re just doing a day trip, you can grab Day 1 of the 2-day itinerary above.

However, if you want to mix some land spots with island hopping, I highly recommend getting an organized tour instead.

There are several tour providers you can find on Facebook. Or, you can also use booking sites like Klook to find these!

Frequently Asked Questions About Visiting Guimaras

At the end of all that, here are a few more FAQs to answer some questions you might have!

When is the Best Time to Visit Guimaras?

The best time to visit Guimaras is during the Mango Festival season, which runs from April 14 to May 22.

The mango eat-all-you-can usually runs from May 18 – 22, with the grand finale firework show happening on the 22nd.

Other than that, it’s best to visit during the dry season, which runs from November to April. The worst time to visit would be the wettest season, from June to September!

Note: in recent years, Philippine weather has been extremely unpredictable. So even if you’re only available during the supposed “wet” season, there’s still a chance you’ll get 3 full days of sunshine!

How Long Should You Stay in Guimaras?

2 days is enough time to visit all the highlights of Guimaras. However, if you’re not in a hurry, staying 3 days is great so you can visit lesser-known spots and absorb the culture a bit more!

What is Guimaras Famous For?

Mangoes!

Guimaras mangoes are said to be the sweetest in the whole world. One bite of their juicy yellow mangoes and you’ll find it hard to disagree!

Again, the whole Guimaras mango thing isn’t a gimmick. It really does taste amazing.

Do You Need Tickets to Join the Manggahan Festival?

No. You need to pay php150 to join the eat-all-you-can, but the festival itself is free for everyone to join!

Do You Need a Tour to Visit Guimaras?

No. Going DIY is very easy in Guimaras.

That said, if you can’t rent a motorbike, having a driver to bring you around will make your life a lot easier. Public transportation is very limited outside of Jordan.

You can always ask around on Jordan Port for tour providers. If you want to book ahead, you can search on Facebook or book in Klook .

How Big is Guimaras?

With a land area of only 604.7 km², Guimaras is the 5th smallest province in the Philippines!

This makes it easy to explore in a short time.

Also, if you rent a motorbike, it’s a great place for a whole-island road trip!

Is Guimaras Part of Ilo-Ilo?

No. Guimaras is no longer part of Ilo-Ilo and is now a full province of its own since May 22, 1992.

That’s also the biggest day of the Manggahan Festival. Truly a time to celebrate for Guimarasanons!

As of the time I’m writing this, Guimaras is the 7th youngest province in the Philippines.

Ready to Visit Guimaras???

That’s everything you need to know before visiting Guimaras!

Visiting Guimaras was truly one of the most unique adventures I’ve been on in the Philippines.

From the mangoes to the quiet, unknown tourist spots, I can’t wait for another chance to visit.

I hope this Guimaras travel guide helps you with your planning!

GUIMARAS TRAVEL GUIDE (Budget + Itinerary)

The rugged coastline of Guimaras in Western Visayas, Philippines is framed by lush greenery staring out towards the island-speckled sea.  This tiny province is synonymous with mangoes, with more or less 50,000 mango trees (some are over 100 years old) thriving in its fertile soil.  But Guimaras is not only home to the world’s sweetest mangoes,  it also overflows with natural attractions that lure both pleasure seekers and adventure travelers.  This is why I’ve written this Guimaras travel guide blog to help you plan your trip!

TRAVEL BLOG CONTENTS

GUIMARAS PRE TRAVEL GUIDE

BEST TIME TO VISIT GUIMARAS ISLAND:  The dry season – January to May are the best months to visit Guimaras .  As much as possible, avoid public holidays as it can get too crowded.  If you are visiting during the rainy season, check the weather forecast, do not proceed if the weather is bad.

GUIMARAS WI-FI: Mobile signal is available but mobile data can be quite intermittent.  Some Guimaras beach resorts have Wi-Fi.

GUIMARAS MONEY: Cash is king here, everything is on cash basis. Stack up cash before leaving Iloilo or Manila.  Landbank ATM is available in Jordan and Buenavista, but as most locals rely on them, best to just withdraw before leaving Iloilo.

GUIMARAS ELECTRICITY: If your resort is located in mainland Guimaras, electricity won’t be a problem.  But if you choose a beach resort offshore, some rely on solar power and generator only. If that’s the case, bring power bank and extra batteries for your camera.

GUIMARAS SAFETY: Guimaras Island is a tourist-friendly place, it is safe for travelers, even for solo female travelers. Years ago, I have tried solo traveling in Guimaras – I did the island hopping and land tour and I find it pretty safe and enjoyable.  But take extra precaution when doing adrenaline pumping activities. Also, when taking the boat to and from Iloilo and doing the island hopping tour, wear your life vest.  Do not proceed to Guimaras if the weather is bad to avoid any unfortunate incidents. Secure your gadgets on a dry bag.

GUIMARAS BEACH RESORTS

guimaras island beach resort

Guimaras island has plenty of low-key beach resorts to choose from, but Nueva Valencia is the preferred base of many travelers especially those who plan to go island hopping since most of the islands included in the Guimaras  island hopping tour are close by.

Here are some of the top Guimaras beach resorts according to popular booking sites:

  • Raymen Beach Resort

Location: Nueva Valencia, Guimaras

CHECK RATES HERE

  • Jannah Glycel Beach Resort
  •   Andana Resort Guimaras
  • Cabugan Adventure Resort

  Location: Nueva Valencia, Guimaras

  •   Nature’s Eye Beach Resort

Location: Nueva Valencia

My friend Marcos and I stayed at Nature’s Eye Beach Resort during one of our visits in Guimaras.  I like the atmosphere of the place as it is quiet and it has a scenic view of the islands below. It’s also a perfect spot for sunset watching.  There’s a small village adjacent to the resort where you can mingle with the locals and experience local lifestyle. The only downside is, it’s too far from Jordan Port.  So, if you plan to do the usual Guimaras island hopping, this is quite far. But, they also offer an alternative island hopping to islands  that are close to this Guimaras beach resort.

Less than 20-minute boat ride from Iloilo City lies Guimaras Island, an island province in Western Visayas that used to be a sub-province of Iloilo until it acquired its provincial status in May 1992.  The fifth smallest province in the Philippines in terms of land area, the whole island can be explored for a few days.

While its most known for its sweet mangoes and various mango products, Guimaras is frequented by tourists, especially those from Iloilo to enjoy its white sand beaches with blue green water.  The topography of the island varies from level to steeply sloping and considering that its roads are not congested, the island has become a favorite destination among runners and cyclists.

Literally means Holy Mountain, Balaan Bukid is a pilgrimage site wherein tourists and Catholic devotees can hike the 558-foot mountain dotted with The Stations of the Cross which depicts the significant events in the life of Jesus Christ.  At the top is a chapel and a huge cross which can be seen from the coast of Iloilo City.  The top also offers a scenic view of Iloilo City and Iloilo Strait.  Balaan Bukid is open year-round but it gets crowded during Holy Week, particularly every Good Friday when the Pagtaltal sa Balaan Bukid , a passion play on the death of Jesus Christ, is being done.

2 | See all the beaches

Guimaras has several pristine beaches and that made people flock the island for a quick weekend getaway.  Alobijod Beach is the most popular beach on the island but Tatlong Pulo Beach, Baras Beach, Guisi Beach, and Tando Beach are equally interesting.

3 | Explore the island through cycling

With its varying land elevation which ranges from 0 to nearly 300 meters above sea level, exploring the island can be made more exciting when you do it using a bicycle or motorcycle.  Aside from the paved roads, you can take the off the beaten path to discover the unspoiled beauty of the island.  If you’re from Iloilo, you can easily transport your bicycle or motorcycle via the pumpboat although you can find some rentals on the island.

4 | Island hopping

Island hopping is one of the most popular activities for tourists on the island.  The usual jump off point for island hopping is at Alobijod Beach but you can find boats for rent in any part of Guimaras.  The rent of the boat ranges from P600-P800 ($12-$16 USD) per hour and charges P200-300 ($4-$6 USD) per hour for succeeding hours.

5 | Experience eat-all-you-can mangoes

Guimaras is known for its sweet mangoes and even dubbed as the Mango Capital of the Philippines .  You can enjoy eating as much mango as you can for only around P100 ($2 USD) during the Manggahan Festival (Mango Festival), an annual festival to showcase the fruit and the province in general.

6 | Visit a mango plantation

Complete your trip to Guimaras with a visit to a mango plantation.  Be surrounded by lush greenery and hundreds of mango trees in a wide expanse of land.  You can take a brief stroll at Oro Verde Mango Plantation or learn more about mangoes at the National Mango Research and Development Center.  Best time to go is when it’s mango season which is between April and May.

7 | Spend a quiet moment at Trappist Monastery

While it seems deserted when looking from the other side of the fence, Trappist Monastery is actually a popular tourist spot in Guimaras.  Inside the compound is a chapel where visitors can spend some quiet moments to pray and meditate.  Further inside are the living quarters of the monks.  The monks are known on the island and the entire Iloilo for making the best mango products such as jams, dried mangoes, mango butterscotch, and mango barquillos.

8 | See the windmills up close

Head to San Lorenzo Wind Farm to see the windmills up close.  These windmills are standing on the top of the hills so you can also take a glimpse of some parts of the island from above.

9 | Nearby Destinations

Iloilo is the most convenient way to get to Guimaras.  Might as well explore the city when in the area.

NOTE: The Manggahan Festival occurs annually in Guimaras Island every 22nd of May.

Klook

EAT & DRINK

The following is your guide to the flavorful food to enjoy and restaurants to try while on Guimaras Island.

1 | Celian Seafood

Celian Seafood is an open-air eatery specializing in seafood and local dishes.  They take pride in using fresh and locally-sourced ingredients.  Customers can even choose fresh seafood displayed at the restaurant and have it cooked based the way they want.  Try their kinilaw (ceviche), shrimp – butter garlic, and mixed seafood adobado.

2 | The Pitstop Restaurant

If there’s only one restaurant you can go to when in Guimaras, it definitely should be The Pitstop.  The restaurant is the pioneer and known for its mango dishes, particularly the Mango Pizza.  In addition to the pizza, the restaurant also incorporated mango into other dishes such as mango beef bulalo, mango spaghetti, and pork adobo.  Conveniently located in the busy part of Jordan, The Pitstop is one food establishment you shouldn’t miss.

3 | Olivia’s Kitchen and Island Brew

Olivia’s Kitchen and Island Brew, located in Guimaras Circumferential Rd, Jordan, Guimaras, offers a diverse menu that blends Filipino favorites like chicken inasal, palabok, and ox tongue sisig with familiar options like french fries, chicken steak, and pasta. They also cater to all day cravings with Filipino breakfast selections, alongside pizzas, seafood dishes, and refreshing drinks including hot and iced coffee, frappes, and shakes. For a local twist, try their mango-infused specialties like green mango sinigang, the unique mango pizza, or a mango shake.

Suggested Budget

Use the chart below to get an idea of how much to budget daily.  Actual amounts will depend on YOUR travel style. Keep in mind these are daily averages … some days you’ll spend more, some days you’ll spend less. Prices are in USD.

Travel Costs

Accommodation.

A bed in a  hostel  dorm costs from 450 PHP ($8 USD), but smaller dorms can cost from 500 PHP ($10 USD).  For a private double, prices start around 950 PHP ($17 USD).

Most  budget hotels  begin at 700 PHP ($14 USD) per night for a double room and usually include free wifi and breakfast.  For  a three-star hotel , prices begin around 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) per night.   AirBnB  is also widespread throughout the country, with private rooms starting from as little as 500 PHP ($10 USD) per night.  For entire apartments, expect to pay at least 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) per night.

Resorts and luxury accommodations  vary greatly from 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) to 5,000+ PHP ($100+ USD).  However, there are some really nice resorts and luxury accommodations which are surprisingly affordable.

We use and recommend booking online to save money using  HostelWorld ,  Agoda , and  Expedia .

Local food is extremely cheap, with street food costing under 50 PHP ($1USD).  For an inexpensive meal at a local restaurant, prices start around 100 PHP ($2 USD).  For a meal at a mid-range restaurant with drinks and table service, expect to pay from 200 PHP ($4 USD).  Knowing that their target customers are primarily tourists, Western food venues can be pricey compared to Filipino food.  Also, some of the ingredients need to be imported, which contributes to the higher cost. Western food (burgers, pizza, pasta, etc.) is much more expensive but is still relatively affordable at around 200 PHP ($4 USD) for a meal and drink.

Fast food like McDonalds will cost around 200 PHP ($4 USD).  A beer at the bar will cost around 50-100 PHP ($1–2 USD).

A week’s worth of groceries will cost between 300-600 PHP ($6-12 USD) per person.  However, food in this country is so inexpensive, and kitchens & refrigerators are hard to come by, I don’t recommend cooking your meals here since there is plenty of delicious street food to eat at very cheap prices. You won’t make it as good as they do and the food is too delicious to miss!

Transportation

There are many modes of transportation available in the Philippines and each varies greatly.

Public Transportation is cheap.  Bus services on the islands are inexpensive.  Local buses (called jeepneys) are the most common type of transportation in towns and cities. The fare is usually between 13-25 PHP ($.26–.50 USD).

On islands without a bus system, a taxi or tricycle is the only form of transport with fares starting at 50-500 PHP ($1-$10) USD for short trips.

Taxis are everywhere, and they’re very cheap.  Most fares shouldn’t cost you more than 500 PHP ($10 USD) around town.

To get between islands, you’ll need to take a boat or to fly.  There are ferries that connect the island together since they aren’t too far apart but, generally speaking, flights are the most realistic option.

Flights between islands usually cost about 2,000-3500 PHP ($40-70 USD).  However, this isn’t the cheapest way to travel.  It’s only recommended if you have limited time.

We recommend booking online to save money using:  WayAway ,  Kiwi  or  Expedia .

Attractions & Activities

Most attractions and activities in the Philippines are pretty cheap. Most attractions throughout the area are FREE to enter, though some of the more well known and popular ones cost 5-100 PHP ($.10-$2 USD) to enter.

Depending on the activity, most day tours only cost around 1,000-1,500 PHP ($20-30 USD), oftentimes less.  You have more bargaining power if you go with a group. If you are expecting to do some climbing, remember to pack some warm layers. It gets cold at the top!

Other activities such as Island Hopping, scuba diving, helmet diving, swimming with whale sharks, jungle trekking, canyoning, ATVs, jet skis, wakeboarding, cruises, parasailing, horseback riding, cultural experiences, and tours can cost as much as 1,250-5,000+ PHP ($25-100+ USD).

The Philippines is one of the least expensive places to learn how to scuba dive. Learning to scuba dive usually costs about 15,000-20,000 PHP ($300-400 USD), but often includes FREE accommodation for the duration of the course, which lasts three or four days.

Always book your tours and activities when you arrive.  Stick to travel agents who are selling on the ground. If a travel agent won’t negotiate with you, move on to the next until you find one that will.  Booking tours online is almost always more expensive.

The following is some of our best advice on traveling to Guimaras Island.  Learn what you need to know BEFORE you go!

Tips & Hacks

he following are our Top 10 Tips when visiting this destination in the Philippines:

  • Be aware that a tourist VISA is only 30 days. You can extend it upon arrival, or within the first 30 days, for an additional 30 days for a fee of approximately 3,000 pesos.
  • Don’t buy into the fear factor. The Philippines has an unjustified reputation of being a dangerous place. It’s true there are security guards everywhere, but that is to deter theft.
  • Manila is NOT the Philippines. Get outside of the cities to see the real Philippines.
  • Don’t over plan. Boats, buses, and even airplane schedules are notoriously unreliable. Be flexible.
  • Check the weather. The weather varies greatly throughout the Philippines daily.
  • Typhoons can have a huge impact on your plans. Account for this when planning your trip.
  • It’s not cool to raise your voice or show outward frustration in public.
  • Be polite at all times. Realize that your country’s sense of humor may be different from Filipino humor and take this into account when interacting with Filipinos and while in public places.
  • Things move at a slower pace. Accept it … don’t get frustrated … but do account for it.
  • Don’t drink the tap water… but stay hydrated! Save money by buying large bottles (6-10 liters) of water and using it to fill your water bottle or hydration bladder in your backpack.

Money Matters

The Philippines has its own currency called the Philippine Peso. Banks, ATMs, and money-changers can be found on the island. If you are exploring the neighboring islands or provinces, make sure to bring enough cash that will last until the next time you get to an ATM or bank since most tours, transportation, and budget accommodations only accept cash.

Health & Safety

While overall the Philippines is a safe country to visit, as is Guimaras Island, you need to use common sense just as you would in any country, especially when traveling, and in a city, town, or area you are unfamiliar with.

Consult your hotel or resort front desk as they are more likely to give you reliable information than a random stranger on the street. Be careful when approaching strangers and selective about who you approach. Always pay attention to your gut feeling and follow it.

  • Maintain a Balanced Diet
  • Stay Hydrated but Only Drink Bottled Water
  • Get Plenty of Rest

Staying Connected

You need to have a local-based SIM card in order to stay connected when in the Philippines. Network giants such as Globe and Smart have SIM cards you can use to make calls, send text messages, and also to connect to the Internet. A SIM card costs around 50 PHP ($1 USD) and usually comes with a FREE load worth 50 PHP ($1 USD). You can buy a card containing a code you can enter on your phone to replenish your load or buy an electronic load that is available almost anywhere in the city.

While you may not have problems with signal strength when in the city, it is not always the case when on islands or in remote areas of a province.  So when arranging for transportation pick up, say when renting a boat to take you to and pick you up from the island, it would be best that you make it clear what time you need to be picked up before the boatman leaves.

Recommended Travel Apps

Apps for smartphones and tablets can be useful both before you leave and while you’re traveling.  Most are available for iPhones and Android phones.

Things to Remember

This guide recommends to take note of the following while traveling on Guimaras Island or in the Philippines in general.

There is a nationwide ban which prohibits smoking in public places including indoors, the streets, on sidewalks, in restaurants , and on public transportation, requiring smokers to use designated smoking areas.  Selling tobacco to and purchasing from or for minors is also prohibited. Violators are subject to fines (up to 5,000 PHP | $100 USD) and even 4 months in prison.

The minimum legal drinking age is 18.  Alcohol such as beer and hard drinks can easily be bought in grocery and convenience stores.  The most common alcoholic beverage is beer, generally served cold.  Local alcoholic drinks include tuba (coconut wine which is usually very strong) and potent moonshine-like clear liquors made from sugar or fruit.  Imported beer, wine, and name brand hard alcohol are available but expensive.

Drugs are illegal in the Philippines.  Don’t use, buy, or sell any non-prescription drugs while in the Philippines … not even marijuana.  It is considered an especially heinous crime to buy from, for, or sell drugs to children.  The penalties are severe … up to and including death.

Public nudity is illegal in the Philippines and is not tolerated.  Most locals consider it offensive.  There are laws which prohibit provocative and erotic clothing and swimwear, therefore carefully consider your clothings and swimwear choices to make certain they are not too revealing.

Foreigners & Expats

If you are not a Filipino citizen, remember that you are a guest when visiting this country … be certain to act accordingly.  Respect the people, their customs, and the environment and wlidlife. You can be deported and banned … so behave … but have fun and enjoy all that this wonderful destination has to offer.

We will write about our favorite Guimaras tourist spots, Guimaras Island tour, where to stay in Guimaras Island, and our Guimaras itinerary in this full Guimaras Island travel guide.

Guimaras Island is considered as  one of the most visited exotic places  in the Philippines. It’s located southwest of Panay Island and northwest of  Negros Island , Guimaras has dry and wet seasons.

Hiligaynon  is the native dialect in Guimaras but the locals can write and speak English and Filipino very well. Guimaras is  mangoes province  and we loved it! Guimaras mangoes are among the  sweetest in the world . If you want to you try the best mangoes in the island, visit  Oro Verde Mango Plantation,  where more than thousands of trees are rooted in the land’s rich soil and produce these famous fruits.

GUIMARAS ISLAND TRAVEL GUIDE

How to get to guimaras island, how to get to guimaras island from iloilo city.

There are  ferries  from IloIlo wharf going to  Jordan  (its capital) and  Buenavista  in Guimaras Island. The boat ride will take  15 minutes  and costs as cheap as  15 PHP  during day time and  22 PHP  at night. If you are staying in Iloilo City, there are jeepneys, taxis and tricycles going to the wharf.

HOW TO GET TO GUIMARAS FROM BACOLOD

You have to ride a  jeepney  to Libertad Market from Central Market, which is  8.50 PHP  per person. From Libertad Market, you have to walk to SaveMore where jeepneys leave to Pulupandan. The journey takes almost an hour and it costs  30 PHP  to the ferry port.

The ferry going to Sibunag in Guimaras leaves early in the morning,  before 8 am . The ferry going to San Lorenzo leaves at  11 am , so take note of the schedule since there is  only one boat leaving daily . The boat takes an hour and it costs 100 PHP for an adult and 50 PHP for a 6 years old if you are traveling with a kid like we did going from Bacolod to Guimaras Island.

We had a hard time riding this boat and the water was coming inside since it’s so windy getting to San Lorenzo in Guimaras Island. Maybe it’s better if you choose the other route coming from Iloilo City.

Just  expect a difficult ride  if you ride the boat. It’s limited to 55 people but they also add motorbikes, sacks and we think is overloaded based on what we saw aside from getting dizzy during the ride.

Maybe if you take the boat leaving at 8 am the water isn’t so waivy but we didn’t have this experience!

WHERE TO EAT IN GUIMARAS ISLAND

Pitstop restaurant.

This may sound odd but you have to taste their  Mango Pizza  and  Mango Beef  Bulalo.  After all, mangoes are the most famous food in nearby Guimaras Island so this is one of the best food you’ll ever taste in the Philippines. I guarantee it will become one of your favorites!

Have you ever tried Mango Pizza? For us, it was also the first time and it didn’t disappoint us! When you are wondering where to eat in Guimaras Island, it’s a must The Pitstop restaurant.

CHICKEN INASAL

Inasal  is Bacolod’s pride and Guimaras Island is so close to Bacolod, so it’s easy to try with a similar taste in Bacolod’s. This unique version of  charcoal grilled chicken  was originated in Bacolod and is cooked with a marinade of  calamansi , coconut vinegar, pepper and  annato .

All these herbs and spices give  in asal  its unique flavor that people from all over the world fall in love with. Prices of orders are  around 100 PHP chicken and rice !

LOCAL CARINDERIAS IN GUIMARAS

If you go on a budget and you like to eat local, there are  carinderias  in Guimaras and prices start from  40-60 PHP per dish  plus additional  15 PHP per cup of rice . Most of the dishes are fish since you are in an island! Check out our order of longanisa and caldereta in Guimaras.

If you’ve ever heard of  bulalo , it would be easy enough for you to imagine what  cansi  is, the Ilonggo version of said Filipino dish. For those who think those two words were made up,  bulalo  and  cansi  are basically dishes cooked with the same main ingredient:  beef shank . However, the shank isn’t necessarily the highlight of  cansi .

The star is actually the  bone marrow , which can be eaten by using the wrong end of your spoon/fork to scoop the marrow from the bone. Even shaking the bone downwards to let the marrow fall out might do the trick! Prices for order is around  350 PHP  and it’s a  complete soup full of meat  that can be shared between a few people.

There are oysters available in Guimaras since it’s too close to the sea. The prices is  60 PHP  for a dish and the order is quite big. It’s really delicious for a cheap price!

This seafood fish famous all over the Philippines is said to be  comparable to ceviche . In essence, though,  kinilaw  (literally “eaten raw”)  refers to the process of using vinegar’s acidity to cook meat or fish. It is more commonly used with fish and is served with other souring ingredients like  green mangoes .

It is then seasoned with pepper, chili and onions. It does well as an appetizer but is more ideally served with beer as  pulutan  (finger food). With the abundance of fresh fish in Guimaras Island,  kinilaw  isn’t hard to find.

Apart from the ones mentioned above, there are plenty of other seafood available in Guimaras Island like shrimp and  talaba  (oysters). One famous variant of fish found in the region is  danggit ,  or salted and dried rabbitfish.  It’s crunchy and salty, perfect to dip in vinegar, eat with hot rice and fried egg in the morning. Yum!

Navalas Church is the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Guimaras. Travel time atleast 5 hours with 20 college students. I choose this destination because Behavior is vital in humans, especially inside the church, but also in all that goes on.1st behavioural problem Disruptive conduct When a kid constantly shows off, upsets the teacher and other students, and otherwise disrupts the classroom, that student is typically asking for unwarranted attention. The student’s self-esteem may be low, therefore he needs attention and special treatment to make himself feel important.I dealed it as a teacher by Involve the student in problem-solving activities. How do you make the kid feel seen and heard without causing a disruption in mass? The goal is to devise techniques to deal with the student’s bad conduct that do not need continual mass interruptions.2nd Helpless and withdrawn behavior Any instructor has a difficult challenge when a pupil seems weak and unable (or unwilling) to execute even the most basic duties. This youngster feels so inferior and inept that she wishes to discourage the instructor from expecting anything from her. She cannot fail if there are no expectations. Handle it by While the learner is watching, the teacher performs the proper behaviour first. JONALYN DEGABI 3F3

Classrooms usually contain 43 individual students. As a teacher, I want them to witness the antique beauty of the Navalas Church in Guimaras. But, there are 3 common behavioral problems that I must consider that cannot be avoided during a field trip. Some of these are noise, not paying attention, and inappropriate manners. To deal with these situations, a teacher must be patient when encountering this kind of student. As a teacher, to start planning a field trip, make some sort of plan or set of rules by providing guidance on what might happen before going to Navalas Church. Encourage every student, give them some sort of advice, and scold them in a good way when things are not right, because every action can lead to destruction.

Behavior is vital in humans, especially inside the church, but also in all that goes on. This is the location I chose with 20 students because I believe it will be beneficial to us.I also understand that everyone has a hidden problem that can only be revealed via prayer. Going to church will not immediately solve the situation, but it will alleviate the animosity. because I am aware that many of my pupils are struggling with financial and familial issues. There is nothing wrong with going to church on a rare occasion since you know you have a decent heart and no one is treading on anyone. This vacation was chosen because I believe the children will learn more from the priests and see good practices in their surroundings.I admit that I am not religious, but going to church is not a terrible thing, and at a distant location, this is my destination with my pupils.

Behavior problem that I may encounter is the no manners, no respect others/ property, and absentminded student. To deal with this behavior ill make sure that all of my student aware that were not in are country to act casually so we have to mind our manners and bahave. And I’ll suggest that wear a t shirt that there’s a school name printed. Andrea Isabelle C. Palma BSIT 3F3

If I am a teacher I would definitely bring my students in guimaras because there’s a lot of beautiful places in there and also I wanted them to try the guimaras mangoes and other delicacies in guimaras , I wanted to show them the churches and also the museum , while having a field trip it is my responsibility as a teacher to take good care of my students and most problem in a field trip is some student get separated and some are being curious and accidentally break things , and to prevent that from happening I am going to do headcounts every hour to know if someone is missing and also to tell my students to be extra careful.

The Guisi Lighthouse is the one that we chose from the article that we would take our Grade 6 six students for a field trip. A total of 20 students are participating. Estimated travel time would be at least 5 hours. We have observed at least 3 behavioral problems. The first one is being too much dependent or needy of their parents. These children might be excited to be on their long hour fieldtrip but after a while they would start missing their parents, others might have panic attacks. The best way to resolve this is to initiate fun games and songs throughout the trip or if they are refusal in calming down we would give them candy or snacks if they would stop having tantrums. Another behavioral problem we observed is the refusal to cooperate. Some kids have these problems simply because most of them are shy especially in large groups, others have limited knowledge or intimidated by similar peers or authorities like teachers. We would resolve this problem by empathizing with the children, put yourself on their point of view that way we could know how to solve or approach them without initiating negative reinforcement. Positive reinforcement could also help them to cooperate. For example praising or cheering to encourage them to participate then patting their backs to backs to show them positive response. Last but not the least is the fear of heights. There’s no denying that children have fear of heights. Our best solution is to go by batches since there are two teachers we would alternate in guiding the children going up the lighthouse the other one maintaining the students down the lighthouse and so on. We would lead them by group of five holding each other’s hands forming a straight line carefully climbing the lighthouse then the same way on going down and so on. As a teacher I gathered 15 of my high school students to have field trips . We decide to have our field trips in Holy family hills in Guimaras. It was a perfect place for student activities and engaging programs. It was huge area to be held for their outside activity that will help them to improve their skills of every student that are participate not just in just school but outside of the campus. I choose holy family hills because it is a religious site that possible the students will be responsible in knowing the do’s and don’ts in the whole field trip. It was good spot that will give energy to the students because of the ambiance and the view they will surely enjoy and take away their stress during the trip. The 3 behavioral problems that we encounter in our field trip are first the students not following the rules some students are not responsible for their belongings and some students are not staying with their group. 2nd leaving without informing their teachers some students go to other places and leave without informing the teacher and the 3rd one is misbehaving some students is shouting out, laughing and talking and not paying attention while giving the instructions. As their teachers we are responsible to watch over the students because if something happens to one of them, their parents will blame us. We deal it by telling them the things that we need in field trip and we will explain to them what they should do and what they should not do and explain all the rules if they don’t follow the rules they will have a consequence that will be done when we go back to school. As a teacher we are very responsible for everything to be successful our outside activity this activity is our biggest role and to make sure their field trip is safe and successful and make sure they enjoy themselves s and learn a lot. Destination: Holy Family Hills Students might mishandle their gadgets, do idle talk often (irrelevant conversations which can be disturbing), and procrastinate (attitude of postponing essential tasks).

How will we deal with these: 1. Students must be divided into teams and each team must have a leader. Each member has to surrender their gadgets to their leader and the leader will do the same. The leader will keep the gadgets or pass it to the teacher and return it to them if necessary or during their free time. 2-3. Because they are into teams, the most behaved and obedient teams will be given recognition and reward. The noisiest and undisciplined team will receive a penalty and deduction of points. As their teacher also, they will be given a due or particular time in doing their personal tasks, and later be given an activity that will help them reflect. This way, they will be challenged and encouraged to participate and follow the rules.

I want to take my students for a field trip to NAVALAS CHURCH. This is the first destination in Guimaras that I want my students to go to. During school field trips reprimands are inevitable, not listening to the speaker in the middle, talking to the neighbor and not avoiding sacred things. So while on a trip, I would confront my students by telling them not to be critical and to be respectful to the people they interact with. Listen to the speaker in front and do not talk to the person next to them. The place we are going to is sacred and should be respected. We should be pleasant, good leader, respectful, kind and good mannered and never show rudeness to other people.

If I would imagine myself as a teacher, and I’ll be having a field trip with my students, I choose San Lorenzo Wind Farm in Guimaras as our destination to relax, enjoy and have fun. Considering that we’ll spend our time together, these are the possible behavioral problems that I will be encountering during the trip. Some of these measures are: The first problem is the absence of organization and discipline, particularly when it comes to eating, is the first issue. Some kids skip meals altogether and only eat in the vehicle. To deal with this behavioral problem, educate and make them understand the rules and regulations that they should follow while visiting other places so that they will be able to learn something new and interesting. The second issue is the conduct of some pupils, who act inappropriately among instructors and their peers. They could struggle to interact with others appropriately or comprehend what they are expected to perform on a field trip with this behavioral problem, make sure that they know how to behave properly in order for them to gain respect from the people around them and thus avoid getting into trouble with them. The third problem is that some students get bored easily due to a lack of activities or because they can’t find anything interesting for themselves in their surroundings. To deal with this behavioral problem, make them appreciate the surroundings even though they are not used to visiting those places. Sometimes, destinations that don’t have those extravagant activities, can be your most memorable travel experience.

We would choose the Navalas Church. Except from being historical, We want our students to experience something magic by touring them inside and learning the background of the church and by also listening to the Father’s homily and praying. 1. The patience of the student – because of the distance, most of the students probably lost their patience. To deal with it I’ve prepare a historical story about Navalas Church for them to have a knowledge and historical background to use maybe in the near future. 2. Noisy students – Having a noisy students is not new to all teachers especially here in the Philippines. And for us to avoid that kind of behavior, We will make a rules when touring around the church. just like we would make the noisy students pray the “Our Father” 20 times since we are in the Navalas Church also for them to realize that being playful is not okay especially in places like churches. 3. Inappropriate usage of gadgets – We all know that most of the students have their own gadgets. If the students won’t participate or cooperate in our trip and only focusing to their phones, we would confiscate their gadgets for them to realize that we came to that place to learn the history of the Navalas Church not to use the gadgets inappropriately but we will return it to them after our field trip.

Holy family hills.

3 behavioral

Impatient, Side conversation And Pushy students. I will deal with it by talking to them to keep quiet and listen to their teacher. As a teacher I will still positive and use kind words and I will tell them to move in the right direction. And I will be the one to encourage them on how to be calm and quiet voice can do to help my students.

If I were a teacher I will pick the San Lorenzo wind farm. It is located up hill so the wind is strong and fresh and you can see a nice view above there

Behavioral problems that may encounter 1. Unpleasant sound or noise – I can deal with it by telling them that if any one can be quiet till we came in the destination the drinks for lunch is my treat. 2. Disobedience- to deal with this situation I think a mind game can be helpful play a game then tell then a short story about the place where you going. 3. Motion sickness – while traveling motion sickness is always there as far as I know if I will be in charge I will change the sits of the sick student and make him/her sit in the front of the car open the window for fresh air and I will tell the driver to stop every hour to let the students rest outside and also to breathe fresh air.

As teachers will bring 10 students to the Holy Family Hills on Guimaras Island. This place is religious it is good for a retreat because in this place our students will be familiar to the different statues of Saints. While we were in a retreat or a field trip we can’t avoid some behavioral problems from our students. Some of this are being noisy, uncooperative, and clumsy. Having a noisy, uncooperative, and clumsy student a teacher should make a rules before going inside of a religious place. Before starting the tour we must explain the DO’S and DON’T to our students. We must keep an eye to students who says noisy, uncooperative and clumsy. As a teacher we are responsible for the safety of our students, and as a selected student on a field trip they represent the name of the school.

' src=

If I was going to decide, I would take my 12 students at the Navalas church in Guimaras island. Traveling especially with your students, it is hard to avoid behavioral problems. It is inevitable that one of my student went missing for sometimes he/she are distracted watching the view, but I’Il be dealing that by grouping them with three members per group so that when I’m not around they can look dor each other. Now we all know that traveling at some places can get us hungry most of the time, my students usually forgetting to bring food especially if no one is reminding then to bring food. As their teacher, it is my responsiblity to remind them of all the things that they need to bring in the field trip. Mostly in field trip, students may find it boring especially that students doesn’t really have an interest in church thing, what I’ll will going to do is to entertain my students and giving them a little trivia about the navalas church, so that at some point the students will be interested and learned a quick history at the same time.

10 Tourist Spots for Your GUIMARAS ITINERARY

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double-check with the concerned establishments for the latest updates.

Guimaras is famous for yielding the sweetest mangoes in all of the Philippines. However, this isn’t the only reason to visit this small, beautiful island province in the western Visayas. There are beautiful beaches, stunning bird’s eye views of the surroundings, and places to chill after a tiring day of exploring.

Guimaras is accessible from Iloilo City via a short boat ride from Parola in Iloilo to Jordan in Guimaras. The fare is cheap at P14. This is the primary reason why some would just go on a day trip to the province. But the island deserves at least one night. If you plan to visit the island, here are some of the attractions to visit as well as things to do.

WHAT'S IN THIS GUIDE?

Alubihod Beach

This beach is your likely first stop because of the many accommodation options within the area. The cream-colored sand and azure waters make for a perfect setting for swimming as well as just chilling out. This is also a possible jump-off point for island hopping.

Guisi Beach

This raw but beautiful beach is picturesque with its cream-colored shoreline, turquoise waters, and rock formations. Take a leisurely stroll on the shores, wade in the waters to douse the afternoon heat, or just relax and unwind. Its remote location makes it an ideal stop for those who want a quiet getaway. Guisi Beach is a possible addition to your land tour, renting a tricycle with driver costs approximately P1200+++. The tricycle can accommodate up to five persons.

guimaras tourist map

Guisi Lighthouse

The towering lighthouse overlooking Guisi is one of the country’s oldest. The creaky steps leading to the viewing deck will remind you of how old this structure is. After reaching the platform, you’ll get a 360-degree view of the island. Take a couple of photos before moving to your next stop. You can include this destination in the tricycle tour that costs around P1200+++.

Sadsad Waterfalls

After you enjoy and explore the beaches, visit Sad Sad Waterfalls. There is a short trek before you reach the cascade and natural pool. The moss-covered rock formations and the surrounding trees give the waterfall a raw but stunning appearance. The tricycle tour (that costs around P1200) includes this destination.

Trappist Monastery

The Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance operates the monastery. They are known for their strict and simple lifestyle. This a short stop where you could purchase souvenirs and mango products. Shopping here helps the monks earn a living.

The Pitstop

As you already know, Guimaras is famous for its mangoes. If you want to try mango products, make your way to The Pitstop. The restaurant serves unique mango-infused food such as pizzas, adobo, burgers, shakes, and pasta just to name some. Drop by for a meal after exploring and enjoying the island’s attractions.

Island-hopping

Like many tourist destinations in the country, island-hopping is a must while in Guimaras. Your possible jump-off point is Raymen Beach Resort near Alubihod Beach. They offer boat rentals to nearby islands for solo travelers and groups. Rates start at P500 for the initial hour and then P150 for every hour afterward. You can also rent a snorkel and mask for P100. The inclusions of this trip are:

  • SEAFDEC – this stop is an institute that studies marine ecosystems. It provides you with a glimpse of the research done by locals to educate government personnel, fish farmers, and students.

2024 Ultimate Travel Guide to Guimaras Island

Table of Contents

W hen you think of sweet mangoes in the Philippines, most people recommend those from Guimaras Island. Just a boat ride from Iloilo, it was part of that province until 1992. It is among the smallest provinces in the country, but it makes up for its small size with sheer lush greenery and natural attractions. In this Guimaras Island Travel Guide, We will show you why this island is a perfect day tour destination from Iloilo. If you plan to experience most of the tourist attractions in Guimaras, we also listed the recommended island hopping and land-based tours available on the island.

Guimaras Island Travel Guide

It was formerly Himal-us, a derivation of the word “paghimud-us,” which means to struggle for survival. With its popularity as a destination for pleasure-seeking tourists and adventure seekers, it no longer has to struggle quite a lot. Here is a quick travel guide for those who want to visit the “Mango Capital of the Philippines.”

Mangoes galore in the Guimaras Manggahan Festival

Guimaras is an island in Western Visayas, surrounded by fascinating islets. This island is overflowing with natural attractions, inviting adventure seekers and pleasure travelers.

This island will truly satisfy its visitors. Guimaras has also been blessed with beautiful beaches with white sand. And, of course, when you say Guimaras, who can forget the mangoes? After all, their mangoes are one of the reasons that make this province known to almost everyone.

How to get there

There are no direct flights to Guimaras. The easiest way to get to Guimaras from Manila or anywhere else except for Bacolod or Negros Occidental is to fly to Iloilo on any daily flights offered by Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, or Philippine Airlines.

Iloilo to Guimaras Travel Guide

Iloilo is the best jump-off point because it is only a 15-minute ferry ride from Ortiz Wharf (to Jordan, the capital) or Parola Wharf (to Buena Vista).

Passenger Banca / Boat

  • Coming from Ortiz Wharf, you can hire an outrigger boat bound for Jordan Wharf in Barangay Rizal, Jordan.
  • From Parola Wharf, you can hire an outrigger boat bound for McArthur’s Wharf in Sto. Rosario, Buenavista. The standard fare is P50, and the discounted fare for students, minors, and Senior Citizens is P35. The travel time is about fifteen to twenty minutes.

Choose which one is nearer to your location.

  • You can ride a RORO if you have brought a car with you. You can ride a RORO from Lapaz, Iloilo City to Port San Jose, Barangay Hoskyn, Jordan.

Best Time to Visit Guimaras

They say the best time to visit the island is during the summer (April to June) to enjoy and indulge in the beaches better. This is the perfect time that you will be able to explore the island to your heart’s content.

What You Need To Wear and What You Should Bring

What you will have in your suitcase is important to consider when visiting this beautiful island. You should bring shorts, a set of nightwear, and T-shirts and don’t forget your swimsuit. Don’t forget to bring toiletries with you.

Of course, you should also bring undergarments, gadgets, and diving gear if you are interested in that adventure. Also, don’t forget to carry sunscreen, for you will probably get a bit of tan while exploring.

What To Expect

When visiting this island province, the first thing you will probably look for is where you can get mangoes and taste the most famous food.

They say you can explore the island in 2 days by sea and land.

What To Do: Guimaras Tourist Spots, Interesting Activities

There are several destinations on this island that you will enjoy to your heart’s content. The GUISI Lighthouse is an 18th-century Lighthouse that was built for Mariners. This was their guide when passing the Guimaras and Iloilo Strait. This Lighthouse is almost falling apart, but this is the 2 nd oldest Lighthouse in the country.

World's Sweetest Mango

You can also drop by the Holy Family. If you feel that stress is hitting you, this is one of the best places to go. Even the not-so-religious people will appreciate this place as it boasts of a station of the cross with life-sized statues.

Another place you can go to is the Taklong National Marine Reserve.  This is where you can appreciate the mangroves for yourself. You can also hear the birds’ chirping and the ocean’s serene sound. You can also see the corals because the water is very clear.

Don’t forget to add the Ave Maria Islet to your island-hopping itinerary. You will enjoy the fine white sand and a good view of the reef, with a wide selection of fish and coral.  You can also go snorkeling here and have a chance to feed the fish.

If you enjoy Philippine mangoes, which some consider the greatest in the world, you should visit Guimaras, the island province where the best type is grown. It is located in Panay Gulf, Western Visayas, Philippines, and in addition to mangoes, it offers some of the most appealing vacation experiences!

Guimaras Island is famous among tourists for its gorgeous beach coves and islands. It’s the ideal location for anyone seeking peace amidst the stunning combination of sun, beach, and sea. Alubihod Beach is at the top of every list of Guimaras attractions because of its beautiful rock formations. It is also a popular starting place for an inexpensive and entertaining island-hopping excursion. Guisi Beach is better suited to daredevils who would plunge off cliffs quickly. It is a must-see and one of the most beautiful spots, immediately below the Guisi Lighthouse.

Top 14 activities and tourist attractions:

1. trappist monastery.

trappist monastery - guimaras

The Trappist Monastery on the island, founded in 1972, is the Philippines’ sole Trappist monastery. Many people visit this tourist attraction because it has a pasalubong center where they offer their culinary goods, including mango jam, polvoron, mango tarts, and more. The venue is also accessible for retreats.

2. Tatlong Pulo

tatlong pulo - guimaras

Tatlong Pulo, or “Three Islands,” is a stunning white-sand beach in the Philippines. It is called for the three karst formations that front the shore. When you come, you may swim in the stunning blue seas and explore the surrounding islands.

This location’s pristine beauty distinguishes it, as it remains a little underdeveloped while having a gorgeous beach. To ensure a hassle-free trip, plan island-hopping cruises that include Tatlong Pulo as one of their destinations. You may even spend a night or two on the island by staying at one of the few resorts that provide modest lodgings for a calm and picturesque experience on this hidden jewel.

3. Guisi Beach

guimaras tourist map

Guisi Beach is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Guimaras. It is a long stretch of golden yellow sand beach with emerald green waves. Visitors found this extremely appealing since the seawater on the coast is so translucent that one can see through the sand or stones below, and as one moves on, the colour changes from emerald green to blue seas. Interesting rock formations may also be discovered at both ends of the beach, ideal for swimming, cliff jumping, or simply taking lovely photos. Guisi Beach offers two beach resorts for overnight stays.

4. Bara’s Cave

guimaras tourist map

Baras Cave near Jordan, is another popular tourist site on the island. This little cave has two openings that may be accessed by boat. The fascinating Baras Cave boasts contrasting elements such as jagged and smooth stones, shallow and deep lagoon sections, and a play of light and shadow through multiple small cave entrances.

Inside the cave, you’ll be met by breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites. It’s an ideal swimming place. You may explore and swim inside the cave while admiring the breathtaking rock formations. Remember to wear suitable footwear to ensure a safe and pleasurable journey.

5. Alubihod Beach

guimaras tourist map

Alubihod Beach is one of Guimaras’ most well-known tourist attractions and the most popular beach site. It is a public beach with a lengthy stretch of beautiful white sand interspersed with smooth red stones. Even though it is a public beach, it is clean, as is the seawater. This site is popular for locals and tourists, particularly during the holidays and summer. Perimeter floaters on the beach may be seen keeping swimmers from venturing too far. Guimaras’ island hopping activities begin at Alubihod Beach.

6. San Lorenzo Wind Farm

San Lorenzo Wind Farm - Guimaras

San Lorenzo Wind Farm, popularly known as Guimaras Windmills, is a must-see on any Guimaras itinerary. This 14-kilometre-long attraction features an array of tall wind turbines set against a background of water and mountains. The wind farm commenced operations in 2014 and has been providing renewable energy to Western Visayas, Negros, and Cebu.

Make your way to Lookout Point Number Seventeen, where you’ll be treated to a spectacular panoramic view of the wind turbines and a prime opportunity to see the sunset. It’s a spectacle not to be wasted!

7. Natago Beach Resort

Natago Beach Resort - Guimaras

Natago Beach, located in Jordan, Guimaras, is frequently included on hopping cruises from Alubihod Beach. This untouched beach has creamy sand, azure waves, and scattered rock formations; add it to your list of the greatest beaches in the Philippines.

The name “Natago” comes from the word “hidden” since the beach is nestled between two mountains, giving it a private and disguised setting. It’s an ideal beach resort for anyone seeking a calm escape from the city.

Swimming in its clean waters, snorkeling, and leisurely walks down the coast are pleasurable pastimes, like a garden with a sea view. Natago Beach is also home to a privately owned resort with accommodations overlooking the sea.

8. Isla Naburot

Isla Naburot - Guimaras

Isla Naburot, a private island resort in Jordan, has a touching past. It was initially constructed as a vacation residence for the owners. There were six cottages or villas, one for each of the family’s six children. The calm hideaway became popular, so the resort was opened to tourists.

The lodgings are basic, and while there is solar power, it may not always be accessible. The main hall is a lovely, open-air wooden building. The island’s pristine beauty provides spectacular natural vistas, making it ideal for a quiet break away from the grid. Swimming and snorkelling are two enjoyable activities to partake in throughout your vacation.

9. Taklong Island

Taklong Island Guimaras

Taklong Island National Marine Sanctuary is one of Guimaras’ top attractions. It is a protected marine area managed by the University of the Philippines Visayas in adjacent Iloilo province. Registration and lodging are on a donation basis. The sanctuary consists of numerous tiny islands covered with beautiful flora. You may explore the extensive mangroves, hidden coves, white sand beaches, and sandbars. A lighthouse on top of a hill provides a stunning view of the entire island and the big sea.

10. Floating Cottage

Floating Cottage - Guimaras

The Guimaras Floating Cottage is located in Nueva Valencia and rests on calm waterways, providing a serene respite surrounded by adjacent islands. You may swim and snorkel to discover the abundant marine life underneath you or relax on the cottage terrace and enjoy the spectacular ocean views.

The floating home can accommodate up to 50 people, and during the hot summer, it’s ideal to stay for a few hours so that others can have a chance. However, if you prefer to stay longer, you may do so, but overnight stays are not permitted. You don’t have to worry about food because a delicious assortment, including their signature coconut halo-halo, is available.

11. Navalas Church

guimaras tourist map

The Navalas Church, built between 1880 and 1885, is the oldest Catholic Church on Guimaras Island. The church used to have a four-foot-tall bell, but it was taken and dumped into the sea near Siete Pecados. The interior and other parts of the church are now modern, but the old facade of coral stones and a stone fence remain intact.

12. Balaan Bukid

Balaan Bukid - Guimaras

The Chapel of Ave Maria Purisima and a white cross may be at the top. The tall crucifix is visible across Jordan and the province of Iloilo.

The route to the peak is ornamented with 14 stations known as the “Way of the Cross,” each depicting a key event in Jesus Christ’s life. Catholics attend Balaan Bukid to be reminded of Jesus’ sufferings to preserve humanity.

Trekkers who complete the trek are rewarded with stunning views of Iloilo City and Jordan, Guimaras. Balaan Bukid’s top’s cold and serene ambiance makes it an excellent place to unwind and reflect.

13. The Pitstop Restaurant

The Pitstop Restaurant - Guimaras

If you’re in Guimaras, don’t miss out on a one-of-a-kind gastronomic experience at Jordan’s The Pitstop Restaurant. The restaurant is well-known for its trademark dish, the Mango Pizza, which combines sweet and savory elements. This pizza, topped with mango slices, cashews, and cheese, seems more like a dessert than a conventional pizza.

Despite its tiny size, the restaurant maintains a friendly and private ambiance. Since its creation in 2005, The Pitstop Restaurant has been a popular destination for residents and travelers looking for a quick snack or a respite from their travels. In addition to the Mango Pizza, the restaurant serves other great meals, such as the Bulalo with Mango, which is highly recommended.

14. Oro Verde Mango Plantation

guimaras tourist map

Visit the National Mango Research and Development Center, or NMRDC, to observe the mango plantation. Guimaras is noted for its delicious mangoes, which are frequently served in palaces and overseas presidential houses. Take refuge under the sprawling mango tree canopy for an Instagram-worthy shot.

Guimaras’ Travel Map

Guimaras includes five municipalities: Jordan, Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, San Lorenzo, and Buenavista.

Here’s a brief overview of each of them!

Jordan is Guimaras’ capital and most populated area. It is the hub of activity during the Manggahan Festival and unquestionably the most vibrant area on the island.

Nueva Valencia is considered the “beach capital” of Guimaras. It has various resorts, and two of Its most popular beaches (Alubihod and Guisi) are here. Following Jordan, Nueva Valencia is perhaps Guimaras’s second most popular tourist destination.

Sibunag is, to be honest, a location I know nothing about. There aren’t many attractions in this region, so I merely drove past. I’m SURE this area has many hidden gems for adventurous tourists to discover!

San Lorenzo is located on the eastern side of Guimaras. It is home to the Guimaras Windmills, one of Visayas’ only two wind farms. However, tourists seldom visit San Lorenzo.

Buenavista is located at the north end of Guimaras. It’s a peaceful and generally vacant location, and it’s not particularly popular, save from the Roca Encantada home.

How to get to Guimaras

There are two access points to Guimaras.

• IloIlo City (most popular among tourists) • Pulupandan (Near Bacolod) Guimaras has no airport; thus, the only way to get there is by ferry.

How to get to Guimaras from Iloilo

Guimaras trips are planned to begin in IloIlo. However, if you want to do it yourself, here’s how: • The rapid boats to Guimaras depart from Parola Wharf in Iloilo City. • If you’re traveling from the Iloilo airport, a cab to Parola Wharf would cost you around 600-800 Philippine pesos . • When you arrive, get a ticket for Jordan Wharf (the most popular destination for visitors; the second wharf, Buenavista, is farther away). • The fare is merely PHP30 per person, and the trip takes around 15 minutes. Boats begin leaving at 4 a.m., departing at 30-minute intervals during peak hours and 1-hour intervals during off hours. • The last voyage normally occurs at 7 pm. Note that traveling to Guimaras is simple. • Various boat companies transport passengers, so even if the timetables are complex, you must show up at Parola Wharf and be guaranteed to catch a trip.

How to Get to Guimaras from Bacolod

• The boats to Guimaras from Negros depart at Pulupandan wharf, which is approximately 45 minutes from Bacolod.

• Some jeepneys operate on the Libertad Market-Pulupandan route, or you can take a southern bus in Bacolod and request that they drop you off at Pulupandan.

• From Pulupandan Port, take a ferry to a dock on Guimaras’ east side (Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, or San Lorenzo).

• Ride a tricycle to Jordan (Guimaras’ capital and tourism hub) from there.

• There are typically three cruises daily, each costing php220 and lasting 45 minutes to an hour.

• Keep in mind that this route is unreliable. The timetable is always changing, and there are occasions when no excursions are made.

How to Get to Guimaras From Manila or Cebu

If you’re traveling to Guimaras from Manila, Cebu, or another region of the Philippines, I highly recommend flying into IloIlo City rather than Bacolod.

• Advice is only to take the Bacolod way if you’re already in Bacolod or someplace else on Negros island, like Dumaguete.

• IloIlo airport has direct flights from Manila, Cebu, Davao, Clark, General Santos, Puerto Princessa, and Cagayan de Oro.

• Once you arrive at the Iloilo airport, discover how to get to Guimaras!

Essential Advice For Getting Around Guimaras

Start arranging your vacation to Guimaras. It is worth noting that you might seek assistance from the Tourism Office at the Jordan Port in Guimaras. Officers can provide thorough information on other nearby attractions, lodgings, events, and transit choices to help you organize your stay. They may also provide maps, brochures, and other information to help you get the most out of your visit to Guimaras.

Jeepneys are the island’s most frequent means of transportation. Rates start at P15 but vary according to distance travelled.

If you’re going to a large company, consider renting a jeepney or a van for convenience. Tricycles are also offered for regions that are difficult to access.

It is recommended that you pack adequate cash for your Guimaras trip. Most places only accept cash.
