It is a great first safari destination as many of the game reserves and parks have the Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, cape buffalo), a must-see for first-time safari-goers. It also has some unique and unusual safari destinations such as large private game reserves in the North near the Kalahari as well as in the east near Durban.

If you are planning on visiting South Africa on a holiday from India there are several things you should keep in mind.

Is South Africa the right destination for me?

Our answer in one word: YES! South Africa is a beautiful destination for all sorts of travellers. It has beautiful vistas and wonderful food, romantic retreats and a vibrant arts and culture scene, and wildlife like no other place in the world.

I am vegetarian. Will I get vegetarian / Indian food in South Africa?

Yes, you will easily get great vegetarian food all over South Africa. South Africa produces some of the best fresh vegetables and fruits in the world, so expect delicious food. And while there are great Indian restaurants in most major cities of South Africa, the food may not be the same as what you get at home. So, we normally suggest that you opt for continental dishes. Another plus point: most chefs in South Africa are trained in Jain style cuisine, so you can easily order food without onions or garlic.

How soon should I book my South Africa holiday?

If you are travelling from November to February, we recommend booking well in advance to get the properties of your choice. Christmas is usually very busy in South Africa (it’s peak season and the summer months) and most good properties (especially the safari lodges) get booked out 3-6 months in advance.

If you’re are travelling during from April to October, it will be easier to get space as this is usually the off-peak season. It is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, however, it does not get too chilly. It is also the best time to go for safaris, and well in time with Indian summer holidays.

Do I need any vaccinations to go to South Africa?

No, you don’t, unless you are travelling to South Africa from a country where you need to take a vaccination. Read more about this here. Malaria is prevalent in some areas of South Africa. Generally, our Indian guests do not take any medications for this, but carry a mosquito-repellant like Odomos.

How to get to South Africa from India?

There are no longer any direct flights from India to South Africa. You will have to have one stopover, either somewhere in the Middle East (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha), or Ethiopia, or Kenya. The shortest flight from Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore to Johannesburg is usually Emirates, taking approximately 13 – 15 hours including stopover.

However, Emirates is usually more expensive than other airlines. We have travelled on Emirates, Etihad, Kenya Airways & Ethiopian Airlines, and all airlines are perfectly safe and comfortable to travel on. Ethiopian Airliens and Kenya Airways are usually a little more basic, but cheaper as well.

How shall I book my tickets from India to South Africa?

We can either help you book your tickets via our agent, or you can book it yourself (online or offline). Before you book your flights, it’s good to have an itinerary in place because you will usually book an open jaw ticket (eg. arrive in Johannesburg and depart from Cape Town).

Is South Africa a safe holiday destination?

Most of the areas you will be visiting will very safe. There are regular police patrols and it is recommended that you stick to well-lit areas. However, South Africa, like India, has a big divide between the rich and the poor and this causes some disquiet, especially in areas like Johannesburg. We recommend keeping the same precautions that you would do in India: don’t roam around at night and be aware of your surroundings.

Itinerary (Day Wise)

Johannesburg – sun city (2 nights).

‘Mumbai to Mumbai Tour’ guests will report at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai as per the scheduled flight departure time and proceed to Johannesburg – biggest city of South Africa, also known as the city of gold. Upon arrival, Veena World Tour Manager will guide all guests for airport formalities and proceed to Sun City – Africa’s premier luxury resort. Joining and Leaving (J&L) tour guests will join the group on their own. The transfer charges to reach the designated place or hotel will be borne by the (J&L) guests. In the evening, all the guests will have a short Meet & Greet session.

Sun City – Pilanesberg National Park – Sun City

Today we visit Pilanesberg National Park and enjoy the Safari Game Drive, which gives us a wonderful opportunity to have a close encounter with the Big 5 – Elephant, African Buffalo, Rhino, Lion and Leopard. In the evening we explore the glamour of Sun City known as ‘Kingdom of Pleasure’ and try our luck at the Casinos. Enjoy photographing yourself at the various attractive backdrops of Sun City Resort.

Sun City – Johannesburg (1 Night)

Today we drive to Johannesburg. Upon arrival we take a photo stop at Nelson Mandela Square with the six-meter-high statue of South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, philanthropist and country’s first elected black president, Nelson Mandela.

Johannesburg – Port Elizabeth – Tsitsikamma NP – Bloukrans Bridge – Knysna – George (1 Night)

Today we travel to Port Elizabeth by flight. Upon arrival we proceed to George – an exotic town surrounded by blend of rivers, rich farmlands and forests. En route we visit Tsitsikama National Park to get a pristine view of African nature from Storms River Suspension Bridge. Later we view Bloukrans Bridge – known as world’s highest Bungee Jumping Bridge. In the evening, we arrive at Knysna – the most famous town in the heart of Garden Route with its beautiful lagoon surrounded by ancient forests. We stroll around Knysna Waterfront to get spectacular views of serene lagoon water. Enjoy shopping of gifts, boutiques, curios, clothes etc. in this beautifully set shopping paradise at Knysna waterfront.

George – Oudtshoorn – Mossel Bay (2 Nights)

Today we have a full day excursion to Oudtshoorn – a town lies in the majestic mountains of Klein Karoo area of South Africa’s Western Cape, also known as the Ostrich Capital of the World. Enjoy the scenic journey over the Outeniqua Mountains. Upon arrival, we enjoy a guided tour of Cango Caves – spectacular underground natural wonder, sculptured by nature through the ages and formed of limestone in a wide variety of colours. See the dripstone caverns that open into vast halls of towering stalagmite formations named as The Bridal Couple, Glass Flower Fantasy, the Hanging Shawl, etc. We then visit Ostrich farm to meet the world’s biggest bird face to face. You may get a chance to hand feed the ostriches, view the incubators where Ostrich eggs are hatched and even stand on the ostrich egg. In the afternoon, we visit Congo Wildlife Ranch – a unique zoological facility focussed on conservation through education and renowned for offering once in a lifetime encounters with more than 90 species of rare and endangered animals from around the world. We then proceed to Mossel Bay – a bustling harbour town along the Garden Route known for its golden beaches, awesome cliffs, boot shaped post office, Garden Route Casino and finest tasty Mossel Bay mussels.

Today we visit Post Office tree and Cape St. Blaise lighthouse – a national monument, built in 1864, situated on a cliff over the Indian Ocean. Enjoy beautiful panoramic view of Mossel Bay city from the light house.

Mossel Bay – Stellenbosch – Cape Town (2 Nights)

Today we drive to beautiful Stellenbosch – second oldest town in South Africa known for its natural beauty, Oak-lined avenues, Dutch architecture, history, culture and vineyards. Upon arrival, we stroll around this beautiful town. Later we explore true excellence of Stellenbosch by visiting one of the finest Wineries in town. In the afternoon, we proceed to Cape Town – a legislative capital of South Africa also known as Africa’s Mother City was developed by United East India Company as a supply station for Dutch ships sailing to India and Far East Asia. Upon arrival, we visit Victoria & Alfred waterfront situated on the Atlantic shore and Table Bay Harbour, bustling with a variety of shops and cafes. Later we enjoy sunset cruise to get an amazing view of the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.

Today we enjoy a revolving Cable Car Ride to stunning Table Mountain – a 600 million years old rocky mountain which was a part of the new Seven Wonders list. From the top of the mountain lookout points view Cape Town city, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Table bay, Robben Island and Cape Peninsula. You can also take a short nature walk on the top of the Table Mountain. Later we take a coastal drive and pass by the sea side town Hout Bay and world famous Mariner's Wharf – Southern Hemisphere’s first harbour front emporium. Then we take a Cruise to Seal Island – a home to 75000 Cape Fur Seals and the hunting ground for the great white shark. We also visit the Boulders Beach in False Bay to see the African Penguins. In the afternoon, we take a Funicular Tram Ride to an unforgettable Cape Point Light House – a nautical guide and navigational landmark since 15th century for the sailors. Our wonderful day ends with the visit to world renowned landmark Cape of Good Hope – a rocky promontory on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula in South Africa.

Today we enjoy breathtaking Helicopter ride over Cape Town. During this ride we will get a chance to enjoy birds eye view of the majestic Table Mountain and fly over the beautiful Atlantic coastline. It’s time now to say goodbye, Phir Milenge! Let’s stay in touch with each other through email, phone, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc. and meet again on yet another memorable Veena World tour. See you all! Tour guests will proceed to the airport as per their scheduled group flight departure time and start their journey back home. Joining and Leaving (J&L) tour guests will leave the group after the scheduled program. The transfer charges to reach their respective airport/cruise/rail/bus terminal will be borne by the (J&L) guests. Tour concludes. Please note: Airline: On group tours, we generally fly with airlines that are group-friendly. Group tours are based on economy class, if you wish to travel by Premium Economy / Business Class / First Class, we can arrange the same at an additional cost subject to availability. During your air travel, refreshments and meals are provided as per the airline policy. However, we recommend you to carry dry snacks of your choice for the flight journey. Transport: For transfers and sightseeing we use small cars / Tempo Travellers / Mini or big coaches depending on the respective tour group size. The seating arrangement in the coach is based on booking priority. Seat numbers 1 & 2 are reserved for Tour Managers and Tour Guides. Seat numbers 3 & 4 are reserved as Prime Seats which can be availed by paying an additional cost. If you wish to utilise the vehicle solely for yourself or your family or you would like to upgrade the vehicle, we can arrange the same at an additional cost subject to availability. Sightseeing attraction: Given the current dynamic situation, some monuments or sightseeing places may be closed temporarily without any prior notice. Sometimes due to rush or changes in the reservation system, entrance to the sightseeing attractions may be unavailable; in such cases, every attempt will be made to visit an alternate sightseeing place if possible or refund of the entry fee will be given. Hotels: The hotels on tour are comfortable and have been appreciated by Veena World’s guests in the past. The category of hotels on international tours is a mix of three-star, three-star superior, and basic four-star. Kindly check your respective hotels before booking your tour. Room Sharing: Sometimes, two single unfamiliar travellers (gender - alike) share a room, should read the instruction paper along with the terms & conditions and abide by the same. Meals: On tour, we provide all meals, from day one to the last day, as mentioned in the itinerary. In case of early arrival or late departure due flight timings, guests will be provided an additional meal/s without any extra cost. In case of connecting flights, if the transit time exceeds beyond five hours, guests will be provided with a meal/meal coupon. Generally, meals are provided in the restaurants. On certain occasions, packed meals will be provided for the ease of itinerary operation/sightseeing. Breakfasts are generally continental on European tours, whereas, lunches and dinners are Indian OR Indian along with a local dish OR local cuisine, OR at times fast food meals from Subway, McDonald’s, etc. Visa: Veena World takes maximum tourists from India to Europe through group tours, customised holidays and corporate tours (MICE). Every month Veena World Visa Facilitation Team of 80+ members assist thousands of our guests for visa documentation, visa application, visa submission to VAC/VFS/ consulate, collection of passports from the VAC/VFS/ consulate on guest’s behalf wherever applicable. However, all guests should be aware of the fact that ‘issuance or granting of visa to any guest’ is at the sole discretion of respective country’s consulates/embassy. Veena World does not play any role in the actual granting of the visa. Veena World cannot be held responsible for delay or rejection of the visa by the respective consulate. In the rare event of a visa delay or rejection, cancellation charges will be applicable as per the cancellation policy of Veena World. We request all our guests to start the visa application process well in advance or immediately after the tour booking. Certain consulates send the passports directly to the guest’s residential address as per the Visa application form. Guests are requested to thoroughly check if the visa is granted along with the validity and the status as Single/Double/Multiple entry visa required for the tour. Guests who are Joining & Leaving (J&L) or guests already holding a visa or guests who are opting to do the visas on their own should check if the visa is granted along with the validity and the status as Single/Double/Multiple entry visa required for the tour. Deviation guests who are leaving early or returning late than the scheduled tour, should check their visa status/validity according to their personal programme. Upgradation on tour: Flights: Group tours are based on economy class, if you wish to travel by Premium Economy / Business Class / First Class, we can arrange the same at an additional cost subject to availability. Cruise: Cruise accommodation is generally in a room with a port hole or a room with a balcony. You can upgrade to higher category rooms by paying an additional cost subject to availability. Trains: Train journeys during the tour are in Standard class. You can upgrade to higher category like Standard Premier or Business Premier by paying an additional cost subject to availability. • All meals are provided by Veena World in case the flight reaches the stipulated destination early morning or leaves destination late in the evening.
• In case, a particular sightseeing cannot be covered or visited on the Tour, owing to any kind of unavoidable political, environmental or social circumstances, then it will be replaced with other best possible alternative sightseeing.
• Standard Check-in and check-out time of International hotels is usually 1500hrs and 1200hrs respectively.
• Guests may please note that for Domestic flights or internal flights from one city to another city on international tours, the baggage allowance will be as per the respective airline baggage policy and weight regulations. Guests are requested to pack their belongings and carry luggage in accordance to the respective airlines baggage allowance. From big, chunky ornate silver earrings to vibrant bangles and bold statement rings, India's silversmiths and jewellery makers ensure there are lots of pieces to choose from in the bazaars and shops.

2. Wraps, scarves and shawls

Whether you're looking for pricey pashmina, luxurious silk or colourful cotton, India has a huge variety of materials to wrap yourself in.

If you're lucky enough to be able to bring tea into your home country, then pick up some of the world's finest tea from the Darjeeling, Assam or Nilgiri regions.

Indian cotton sheets, embroidered bed spreads and colourful cushion covers can be picked up in bazaars at a fraction of the price paid elsewhere.

Many shops are open between 9 am and 7 pm, Monday through Saturday, though hours can vary at bazaars. Most shops are closed on Sunday.

Festivals and events in India

Many of India’s biggest festivals are religious and follow either the Indian lunar calendar or the Islamic calendar. The dates may change each year, but the fervour of celebration never does. Some of the best and biggest festivals to keep an eye out for in India are:

Holi (Festival of Colour)

Take a whole lot of coloured powder and water, add thousands of happy people not afraid to get a little (or a lot) dirty, and you have Holi—a technicolour Hindu celebration that marks the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Celebrations take place across India in February or March.

Diwali (Festival of Lights)

India’s biggest festival – meaning ‘rows of lighted lamps’, people decorate their homes with colourful lights, candles are lit and firework displays take place across the country. The celebrations are particularly spectacular in Varanasi, where illuminated candles and earthen lamps are floated down the Ganges River as fireworks light up the sky. This five-day festival takes place every October or November.

Gujarat Kite Festival

Large, colourful and unusual kites flood the skies of Gujarat each January to commemorate the start of summer and beginning of harvest. Purchase your own at Patang Bazaar, a famous kite market, or just watch the others dance through the sky.

Mumbai Ganesh Festival

The birth of the elephant-headed god, Ganesh, is celebrated for 10-days each August or September in cities across India, but Mumbai takes it to another level. An incredible energy can be felt throughout the city as people pack the streets for a massive party and an elaborate statue of Ganesh is paraded around.

Pushkar Camel Fair

Thousands of camels (and their owners dressed in their finest garb) descend upon Rajasthan's Pushkar for the annual camel fair. Camels are traded and raced, acrobats and performers entertain crowds at a nearby fair, while finely dressed males and bejewelled females take the chance to let their hair down.

Is tipping customary in India?

While travelling through India, on a tour or otherwise, it’s expected one would tip porters, drivers, restaurant staff and other service workers given the low wages they earn.

What is the internet access like in India?

Internet access is generally very good in India, with most cafes, restaurants and accommodations offering free wi-fi, even in the more rural areas. There is also good phone coverage for data use if you choose to purchase a local SIM card to stay connected for the duration of your India tour.

If you do wish to purchase a local SIM in India, make sure your phone has been unlocked before your tour begins. There are quite a number of carriers that are all very competitive, but Airtel is probably the best option for travellers. You’ll need to a copy of your passport and visa to pick up a SIM, and the process can sometimes be a hassle, but rates in India are very affordable given the competition.

Can I use my mobile while in India?

Yes, you’ll be able to use your mobile phone while on an India tour, but only if you have activated global roaming or purchased a local SIM card.

What are the toilets like in India?

Squat toilets are the most common toilets in India. Always carry your own toilet paper and soap or hand sanitizer, as they are usually not provided. Flushable, Western-style toilets can be found in up-market restaurants, some higher-end hotels and in some tourist areas.

Are credit cards widely accepted in India?

Credit cards are being accepted an increasing number of cafes, shops, restaurants and hotels in India, with Mastercard and Visa being the most common. That said, cash is still king, especially outside of cities like Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai.

ATMs are widespread across India in both cities and smaller towns. Visa, Mastercard, Cirrus and Maestro are the most commonly accepted cards, but of those Visa and Mastercard are more likely to have success. The daily withdrawal limit differs from bank to bank.

Is India safe for LGBTQIA+ travellers?

The majority of Indian society is still conservative, and while most travellers will have a welcoming and hospitable experience, discretion is still advised for LGBTQIA+ travellers, particularly in more remote towns and villages which may be more conservative. India vs South Africa at the T20 World Cup final: all you need to know

It has been a reasonable low-scoring venue, but will it be the same in the final? (1:28)

The finalists of the men's T20 World Cup 2024 have been decided; we are set for India and South Africa to scrap it out for the title on Saturday morning in Bridgetown, Barbados. Ahead of the big game, ESPNcricinfo is here to answer all the questions you might have about the final.

So India and South Africa it is. How many times have they met in ICC finals? Or a knockout match?

This will be the first time that the two teams meet in the final of a men's ICC tournament. India and South Africa did meet in the 2014 T20 World Cup semi-final , which India won.

Can they be called the two best teams in this tournament?

Well, one can say that the two most in-form teams have made it to the final. Both India and South Africa are unbeaten in the tournament, and both teams topped their respective groups in the group stage and the Super Eight, although South Africa have an extra win under their belt given India's washout against Canada.

Whoever wins the final will be the first team to win a men's T20 World Cup unbeaten.

Which team has taken the tougher route?

South Africa registered wins over Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Nepal in the group stage before beating USA and England in the Super Eight. They faced West Indies in their final Super Eight match, knowing that a defeat would knock them out, but eked out a three-wicket win in a tight contest that was shortened by rain.

After a string of narrow victories, South Africa hammered Afghanistan by nine wickets in the semi-final to march into the final.

India, meanwhile, began their campaign with wins over Ireland, Pakistan and USA. Their perfect record in the group stage was marred by rain, as their game against Canada in Lauderhill was washed out. India started the Super Eight stage with big wins against Afghanistan and Bangladesh and capped it off by beating Australia.

In the semi-final, India put in another comprehensive performance to down England by 68 runs .

In terms of opposition, it could be argued that India faced tougher teams, having to overcome Pakistan, Australia and then England in the semi-final, but South Africa were seriously tested in most games but still found a way.

Okay, so why is this final a big deal for South Africa?

Well, it is a historic occasion for South Africa because it is the first time they will be competing in the final of a men's World Cup, ODI or T20. In fact, apart from winning the inaugural Champions Trophy in 1998 , South Africa have not made the final of any ICC men's tournament.

They have come close on many occasions, reaching the semi-finals in five ODI World Cups (1992, 1999, 2007, 2015, 2023) and two T20 World Cups (2009 and 2014) before this year, but for the first time they have got to within one win of the title.

And why is it important for India?

While India won the first ever T20 World Cup, in 2007 , they are without a World Cup title since 2011 and their last ICC silverware was the 2013 Champions Trophy . They have come close since, reaching the final of the T20 World Cup in 2014, and the semi-finals in 2016 and 2022, as well as the semi-finals of the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups. They also finished runners-up in the two World Test Championship finals - in 2021 and 2023. Last year, they were unbeaten en route to the final in a home ODI World Cup, but faced heartbreak in the final. Less than 12 months later, they have a chance to heal some of those wounds and end their barren run in global events.

When was the last time a World Cup was held in the West Indies?

The 2010 T20 World Cup was the last one hosted by the West Indies. That year's final , between England and Australia, was also played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

So what do we know about the pitch and conditions?

Well, this will be the ninth match of the tournament at the venue. The first game here went to a Super Over , but there haven't been any close contests here since.

The teams batting first won three of the next four completed matches at the venue, and Scotland had raced to 90 for no loss in 10 overs against England before that game was called off. The last two matches in Bridgetown had West Indies and England bowling USA out cheaply and completing comfortable chases.

South Africa haven't played here this tournament, but India have had one game here - a 47-run win over Afghanistan .

Wind, is that going to be a factor?

It could be windy, with wind gusts predicted at 35 kmph from the east, going up to 45 kmph. But it probably won't have as much of an influence as it did in Gros Islet when India took on Australia.

The India-England semi-final was affected by rain. What's the Barbados weather forecast looking like for the final?

According to AccuWeather, there are some showers expected, so we may face interruptions. There is a roughly 50% chance of precipitation in the morning between 4am and 9am, but that comes down to roughly 30% between 10am (the scheduled toss time) and 1pm, when it goes up again to roughly 50%. There will be 190 minutes of extra time allotted on Saturday to try and complete the game. Both teams need to bat at least 10 overs for a winner to be declared.

So there is a reserve day?

Yes, the final does have a reserve day. The match will only go into Sunday if at least 10 overs each is not possible on Saturday even with extra time. The game, if already underway, will pick up from where it left off on Saturday, not start from scratch.

Like match day, the scheduled start of play on the reserve day is 10.30am local time. There are some showers forecast for Sunday too, though the forecast for match hours is relatively better (about 20% chance of rain) than what's expected overnight and later in the day.

What happens if we can't get a result even after the reserve day?

If the weather prevents the match from being completed even on the reserve day, both teams shall be declared joint-winners.

And what happens if it's a tie?

A Super Over will decide the result, and if that also ends in a tie, there will be another Super Over and so on until a result is achieved.

If the Super Over is abandoned because of poor weather after a tied game, the two teams will be declared joint winners.

All that cautious optimism of Indian fans can turn into unbridled, berserk celebrations as the Men in Blue conquer the summit that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and the rest set out to climb since 2013. The downbeat of Dhaka in 2014, the Sydney stumble of 2015, the Wankhede woes of 2016, the Oval obstacle of 2017, the Manchester mess up of 2019, the Adelaide avalanche of 2022 and the Ahmedabad anomaly of 2023, all forgotten in a jiffy as Team India finally break a 11-year jinx to call themselves champions again! A show of stellar dominance with a clear blueprint of intent, sprinkled with a selfless skipper and a talismanic bowling attack who can dig you out of hell or high water. Sometimes, all you can do as opponents is sit back, clap off the champions and say ‘Well deserved!’

Tough luck, South Africa. They were unbeaten till the final and came through in some really tough final over games. They fought hard today too but just crumbled at the wrong moment. Their trophy cabinet might still be bare but this World Cup performance from Aiden Markram and his boys hopefully gives some reverence to a nation as it was just struggling to find its identity in World Cricket.

An ode to Virat Kohli When a kingdom is under attack, the temperament and calibre of the soldiers and the ministers comes into question, but never the King. A good king, a strong king knows his value, knows when to strike and how to strike, and strikes in a manner to sting a lethal blow on the opponent while taking his kingdom along. For years now, King Kohli has been a cut above the rest for India in limited overs cricket, saving his kingdom plenty of times. He isn’t just the guy who can play the shot of an emperor, he is the walking, talking emperor himself and he deserves all of cricket’s riches and fame as he walks off into the sunset one last time in his T20I career holding onto that one ornament missing from his cherished cabinet…

And a quick little footnote, let's also remember the outgoing coach Rahul Dravid, who just like the most of his playing career, stayed in the shadows, but had a telling impact on this bunch of boys. A key attribute of the Rohit-Rahul tenure has been backing their players, giving them a long rope and not chopping and changing. Arshdeep didn't have the best of IPL seasons but he was the designated new-ball bowler for India throughout. There were plenty of calls for Shivam Dube for his tepid performances in this World Cup, but he shone through with a handy cameo today. They backed their boys throughout the competition, and today it has paid dividends...

Even the harshest of critics would find it difficult to say India don’t deserve this!! An invincible run to the trophy. They picked a team for the conditions, trusted their boys and it has paid off. Rohit Sharma led the way with his fearlessness and intent, Suryakumar showed his class in conditions that weren’t the easiest for his style of batting, Dube and Axar played handy cameos and Virat came to the party in this all important final. And what about the bowlers? It is true when they say batters win you a match, and bowlers win you a tournament. And Jasprit Bumrah alone probably wins you tournament(s). Arshdeep proved his mettle with the new ball, Kuldeep was the coveted wicket-taker throughout the Caribbean and Axar was at his frugal best for most of this tournament. And a moment to acknowledge Hardik Pandya. He was crucified throughout the IPL, villainized to an unsanitary level and today he will be deified as an Indian immortal. They mocked him, and now they fall to him!

So Rohit Sharma is ready to claim his trophy. He does a little jig with big smile as he steps up to receive it from Jay Shah . And then he hoists the silverware high to the sky. The timid youngster of 2007 who was the side stringer back then is ready to take centrestage out here. Leading from the front with a focus on fearlessness and intent, Rohit Sharma is ready to now shake hands with his self-scripted destiny. From 'Mujhe sirf woh trophy dikhta hai' [Only the trophy is visible to my eyes] to holding that beautiful piece of metal aloft, Rohit's life has come full circle… Jay Shah hands over the trophy to the Indian skipper, and his teammates circle around him as they take turns lifting the trophy. Kohli gets his hands on it and gestures towards Rahul Dravid to join the party. The Indian coach hoists up that trophy and shakes it vigorously up and down with gritted teeth mouthing a come on, giving us one of the most animated poses anybody would have seen of him in all those years of his cricketing career. The Indian players pose for team pictures and Kohli breaks out into a beaming smile. All happy faces now, the tears have been left behind, the sorrows have been left behind, it is now time to revel in the moment for the Men in Blue!!

Rohit Sharma | India Captain: Very hard to sum up what we have been through for the last 3-4 years. To be honest, we worked very hard as individuals and as a team a team, lot has gone on behind the scenes for us to be here today and win this game. It is not what we did today, it is what we have been doing for the last 3-4 years. That's the the result that has come for us today. We have played lots of high pressure games in the past as well and have been on the wrong side as well. But the guys understand what needs to be done. Today was the perfect example of when the back is against the wall, what is required. We stuck together as a team and the guys, all of us, even when at one point it was looking South Africa's way. Overall, as a team, as a group on the field, we wanted this really bad. We wanted to win this. To win a tournament like this, a lot goes behind the scenes, a lot of effort, a lot of minds need to come together. I am very proud of this bunch of boys I have and the management as well for giving us that liberty to go and play, to execute, for having that trust in each one of us. That has to start from the management, coach, captain and then the players go out there and do it. Throughout the tournament, I think we were fantastic. Not me and nobody was in doubt with Virat's form. We know the quality he has, he's been on top of his game for 15 years, come the occasion the big players will stand up. Virat was holding that one end which was very crucial for us and the others played around him. For us to get to that total, it was a team effort. We wanted someone to bat as long as possible. These are not wickets where you can come and bat freely and keep the scoreboard ticking straightaway, so we do understand that. We wanted somebody to bat as long as possible and Virat did that perfectly. That's where the experience of Virat comes through. The other guys around played really well, Axar's knock of 47 was very crucial as well. (On Bumrah) I can understand you guys trying to put it into words but I've been someone who has seen him for so many years, even playing alongside him, but even I don't what exactly is with him. I know exactly what he brings to the table but how he does that, it is just a masterclass. He backs his skills which is more than enough and he is a very confident lad. Whatever he wants to do, he executes to perfection which is a very rare sight. Jasprit Bumrah, to put it in one word, he's a class act. Hardik was brilliant as well, bowling that last over, no matter how many runs is required, to bowl that last over, I am very proud of the boys. Absolutely fantastic, all the way from New York to Barbados, I just want to salute them, to come and support us the way they have and even back home in India, millions are sitting and watching, it's late night in India, I'm pretty sure they are up watching this. They have been waiting a long time, just like us. This is for them. Very very proud of what we have achieved today.

Aiden Markram | South Africa Captain: Gutted for the time being. It'll take some time for us to have a really good reflection on a really good campaign the group had. Obviously for the time being, like I mentioned, it hurts quite a bit. Having said that, I'm incredibly proud of this group of players and everyone involved with the team. I feel they bowled well (SA bowlers). Don't think there was a whole lot to work with with regards to the pitch. Thought they did well to restrict them to what we thought was a chaseable total. Thought we batted really well as well, and it came down to the wire. Really good game of cricket. We've seen with a lot of our games in this campaign - it's never over till the last ball is bowled. We never got comfortable, there's always an element of scoreboard pressure. And especially at the back end, things happen quite quickly and can turn quite quickly as well. Having said that, we got into a great position which proves we're worthy finalists. Could've won the game today. Unfortunately we didn't. Still, like I mentioned, incredibly proud of the group. Hopefully in a really good way (how does this set them up for the future?). One thing guaranteed about a South African wherever they are in the world is they're a really competitive person, really respectful person and a person that'll go down with a fight. Hopefully looking forward we can draw a lot from those few things and keep putting the skill side of the sport to good use. It's still a proud moment for us.

What about the reactions in the South African camp? Aiden Markram is trying his best to paint a smiling face. Miller is consoled by his wife who hugs and gives him a kiss on the cheek. A couple of South Africans are still looking shell-shocked. They can't believe how they have let this slip. This will hurt them and scar them mentally for a while - that's for sure. And it won't help them because of their previous history in ICC events. A tough tough pill for every South African to digest.

In the Indian dugout Rohit's wife hugs him tightly. Now Kohli is on the phone to someone with tears in his eyes and then he blows imaginary kisses to the other person/s on the phone. As he said at the player of the match interview, the real emotions are coming out now.
