Update on Inter-provincial travel restrictions & public transport

inter provincial bus travel

The inter-province travel restrictions are likely to remain in place for another two weeks, despite the islandwide quarantine curfew being lifted at 04 am tomorrow (01 October).

The islandwide curfew has been in place for nearly 06-weeks due to the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told The Morning newspaper that the authorities have, however, decided to extend the inter-province travel ban for a further two weeks.

He said all other restrictions to be declared after the lifting of the quarantine curfew would be reviewed on a weekly basis from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, inter-provincial trains and bus services will not operate for another two weeks, despite the quarantine curfew being lifted tomorrow.

State Minister of Public Transportation Dilum Amunugama said the decision was taken following a special discussion with Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday.

Accordingly, only buses will operate within the provinces, while trains will not do so, the State Minister said.

“The Transport Ministry has been advised not to resume train services due to lack of seats in compartments, which may result in most commuters standing while travelling by trains,” he added. (NewsWire)

The Philippines is an archipelago, but buses are a popular mode of long-distance land transportation in the country, especially on the large islands. With a rudimentary rail network, the Philippines' intercity bus network is extensive, and most cities and towns can be reached by bus. Even with competition from airlines, buses transport people across the country efficiently, if not on schedule.

Understand [ edit ]

inter provincial bus travel

Bus travel is a cheap and popular way of traveling around the Philippines. While planes are much faster, hassles with security at airports as well as frequent delays and the ticket prices not faring well to the income of an average Filipino, make buses even more useful and efficient. Buses have more frequent departures, but they are not punctual either, as bus stations are often in congested spots in cities, and it's not uncommon for a bus to leave only if full.

The industry is regulated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), a government agency which also regulates most forms of public land transportation, including jeepneys but not tricycles . Fares must follow a tariff, and companies are subject to strict safety standards. They also have a hotline to report violations by drivers and operators, from overcharging to serious safety violations.

There are two major categories of buses, provincial buses , which zip through the provinces to connect every major city or town, and city buses , which are less common as most places would have jeepneys instead as streets are narrow. You can also find tourist buses approved by the Philippines' tourism department, and range from shuttles offered by some hotels, to ones chartered for group tours.

inter provincial bus travel

Buses in the Philippines are mostly manned by two persons, a driver and a conductor. The conductor also announces stops and assists passengers, aside from punching tickets and collecting fares. Due to the distances involved, buses running long-haul runs (e.g. Manila to Bicol, or Manila to Davao) are required to have a second driver who takes over the wheel after six hours of driving. In luxury buses, there will also be bus attendants or stewards, which will greet you, serve you snacks and meals, and provide blankets for the rest of the journey. Bus staff in the Philippines are very helpful, but unlike airline staff, are less used to foreigners.

Many buses on scheduled service prominently display the destination, as well as the key intermediate stops and (on some companies) service pattern on the windshield, usually on hand-painted signs handled by the conductor. Some companies already use digital signage for the destination. The class of the bus is generally posted at the top right of the windshield. In Manila and Cebu City, which have numbered routes, city buses may display the route number on a sign pasted above the windshield or on a scrolling digital destination sign. You can also find out whether a bus has onboard WiFi, TV or restrooms through signs on the windshield.

Vehicles [ edit ]

Buses and comfort levels used tend to vary from operator to operator, but the most common buses are usually brand-new Chinese vehicles, as well as Japanese, European and Korean buses with locally sourced bodies. Second-hand import buses from Japan or South Korea are once common, but those are slowly being withdrawn on safety grounds. Low-floor buses are slowly becoming common in city routes and on some luxury express routes between provincial cities. Some buses (often minibuses in poorer regions and the Visayas) are rather similar to truck-based jeepneys, usually built from a chassis truck with the passenger compartment behind. Those buses are usually operated by their owners (like with jeepneys), the exterior is painted colorfully, and the vehicle are narrower in width and lower in height than typical buses.

Buses in the Philippines are usually certified to travel up to 80 km/h (50 mph) on expressways, and between 50–60 km/h (31–37 mph) on other highways. Average bus speeds in the Philippines also lie between the 50-60 km/h range as well, but it can be lower if they stop frequently, use slower provincial roads on part of the trip, and have meal stops or take the ferry.

Companies [ edit ]

The Philippines' bus network is moderately regulated in terms of fares and standards, but there are over a hundred companies, some being dominant on one or more regions. In the busiest bus routes (e.g. the Manila-Batangas commuter route), they may be one or more companies, each offering varying levels of service. The list below include of some major bus companies (and affiliates), which typically serve one more region from one or more major city (commonly Manila). Companies that only serve one region or province from their operating base can be found on their respective "Get in" or "Get around" pages

  • ALPS the Bus ( Al Perez & Sons ), [email protected] . Based in Batangas City , they run the Manila-Batangas City commuter route, but they also have long-haul operations to destinations in Bicol and Panay from Manila. ( updated Oct 2020 )
  • Ohayami Transit . Has daily trips from Manila to Baguio, Solano, and Banaue , and Baguio to Banaue. ( updated Oct 2020 )

Provincial buses [ edit ]

Provincial buses form the backbone of intercity and regional transportation, and while jeepneys may take their place in some routes where a full-size bus is too large for some roads along the route or there is not any significant demand, most places within the tourist trail should be reached by at least one or more provincial bus routes.

inter provincial bus travel

There are five classes for provincial buses, which are based on comfort, number of seats, and fare. The class of the bus should be indicated on the windshield, but some don't have them posted at all. From worst to best:

  • Ordinary (regular/third class) — 2-3 layout (6 in the rearmost row), with 54-57 hard seats (either padded or wooden). Stops most frequently. Vehicle can range from minibus to a full-size coach. Some buses may have two doors or the front hosting the conductor's seat. The vehicles are crowded and sometimes unsafe, and foreign travelers are advised not to take them. Windows are kept open, so passengers are exposed to the elements and increase risk of catching disease, spitting is common on these buses, and it's not uncommon to find passengers carrying live animals such as chickens.
  • Air-conditioned (second class, also shortened to AC or A/C ) — 2-3 layout (6 in the rearmost row) with hard seats. No other frills except the A/C. May stop frequently like ordinary buses, but stops are further apart (and can be on bus stations than on curbsides or pullouts)
  • Deluxe (first class, also called executive by some companies) — 2-2 layout (5-6 in the rearmost row) with 36-38 hards seats. Skips more stops, and have better legroom than regular AC.
  • Super deluxe - 2-2 layout (6 in the rearmost row) with 34 reclining seats. Stops only at major cities and towns. May have restrooms, personal entertainment screens, and blankets.
  • Luxury - 2-1 layout with 26 fully reclining seats, which can be turned to beds on overnight trips and an onboard toilet. Stops only at major cities (or run non-stop, not including food and toilet breaks). Mostly operated by the large bus companies.

As a rule of thumb, "commuter" or short/medium-distance buses are usually run with air-conditioned or ordinary buses, while long-distance services (with meal stops/toilet breaks) are run with higher-class buses. In practice however, ordinary buses can be seen in long-haul routes as well, and luxury buses are usually offered by the large bus companies, even on short routes between cities.

City buses [ edit ]

inter provincial bus travel

Metro Manila, Cebu City and Davao City have city buses , which are not usual in most cities, where jeepneys are a staple as they can negotiate the smaller streets. Unlike most systems in most largest cities in the world, city buses are run by private companies under government franchise. City buses ply wide avenues and highways, and routes often connect suburbs.

inter provincial bus travel

City buses are only available in two classes:

  • Air-conditioned - 2-3 or 2-2 layout (6 seats on the rearmost row), with hard seats. The most comfortable.
  • Ordinary - 2-3 layout (6 seats on the rearmost row), with hard seats. Doors are usually left open for most of the trip, except on expressways due to safety regulations. Cheapest, but are crowded, hot and often dangerous. Most bus companies have phased out service class out of safety concerns, and the remaining ones mostly ply routes to low-income suburbs.

For years, the typical city bus (on both classes) in the Philippines is usually a high-floor coach with some modifications for rush-hour and frequent-stop operation, but accessible, low-floor buses are slowly being introduced. For most services, high-floor vehicles are still commonly used, especially in Manila and on commuter routes that take the expressways for most or part of the route. Ordinary buses always use a high-floor vehicle.

Seating arrangements on city buses vary by vehicle regardless of class, but most should have room for 38 (2-2 seating) or 41 (2-3 seating). Seats always face to the front of the bus on most vehicles, but newer low-floor vehicles will have bench or rear-facing seats near the front door, space for wheelchairs and strollers, and hanging straps and grab bars for standing passengers. Regardless of vehicle type and seating configuration, seats near the front door are priority seats reserved for passengers with children, elderly persons, and people with disabilities; you should give those seats to those groups of people whenever they need it. Priority seats are marked with a sign (often the international accessibility symbol) pasted on the window beside the seat.

inter provincial bus travel

Express buses are available since 2016. Branded Premium Point-to-Point Bus Service (or simply as P2P ) by the Philippine government, these buses, complete with luxury amenities generally available only on long-distance provincial routes, provide fast, limited- or non-stop connections with central business districts, suburbs, or even provincial cities, and have only one to no stops along the route. Fares are a flat rate, and while expensive to a working class Filipino, they are more comfortable that the widely available AC buses. P2P buses mostly run from Manila, Cebu City , Iloilo City , Angeles and Baguio .

City bus tickets are always bought from the conductor, but contactless methods (e.g. Manila's Beep card) can be used with some operators. A few city bus companies, mostly ones operating completely ultramodern low-floor fleets, have completely fixed fares, such as BGC Bus (which serves Bonifacio Global City or BGC in Taguig ) and MyBus (which runs between Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu in Cebu).

The country's first bus rapid transit (BRT), the EDSA Carousel in Metro Manila, began operation in 2020. This route, which only uses low-floor buses, run the whole length of EDSA down from the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan into SM Mall of Asia in Pasay , and into Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). Bus stops on EDSA are generally built at the median, with direct connections to MRT Line 3. However, cash is not honored, and you must have a smart card to pay fares. More BRT lines are being proposed for Metro Manila, but are yet to start operation. A BRT system is under construction in Cebu City.

Fares and ticketing [ edit ]

Fares are regulated (and the same throughout the country), and generally based on distance. There are no transfer tickets nor interline tickets; you must pay another fare whenever you transfer. The fare systems are:

  • City bus : Mix of distance-based and zonal systems. ₱12 (ordinary: ₱10 ) for the first 5 km, increasing incrementally by ₱2.25 (ordinary: ₱1.75 ) per additional kilometer beyond that.
  • P2P : Flat fare, generally twice the fare of a regular bus on the same destination pairs.
  • Ordinary : ₱9 for the first 5 km, increasing by ₱1.55 /km beyond.
  • Air-conditioned ₱1.75 /km
  • Deluxe : ₱1.85 /km
  • Super deluxe : ₱1.95 /km
  • Luxury : ₱2.40 /km

Fare matrixes (tariffs) are pasted inside the bus near the driver, but don't always rely on them as fares are usually rounded off to the nearest ₱5 . For seniors, students, and disabled persons, a 20% discount is available as long you produce a valid photo ID to the conductor or ticket seller. If you pay using a smart card or bought tickets online using a credit card, the exact fare is charged.

Getting provincial bus tickets is straightforward. Provincial bus tickets are bought on board through the conductor or bought at the bus station. For long-distance trips, you can also book a ticket in advance, either online (on the company website or on a booking portal like EasyBus.ph) or at the terminal or curbside stop, though it is possible to get them last-minute at a ticketing office. Tickets tend to sell out during major vacation periods (Holy Week, All Saints Day and Christmas and New Year), so consider booking will in advance, otherwise, you'll find yourself being a "chance passenger" who have to purchase the tickets aboard the next available bus while seats are already in short supply.

City or commuter bus tickets are usually bought aboard from the conductor, but in the case of buses departing from a major terminal such as PITX, you must purchase them beforehand.

Instead of buying a paper ticket, you can also pay bus fares with smart cards such as Beep , BEEP Rides (not to be confused with the former) and TripKo , especially on city or commuter buses. Beep, while mostly useful in Metro Manila, is also accepted in some provincial routes from Manila. BEEP Rides, developed for one modern jeepney operator (and not to be confused with Beep), can be used to pay fares in some select bus companies in Luzon. TripKo is available nationwide with some provincial operators also accepting it.

Bus stations [ edit ]

inter provincial bus travel

Bus stations in the Philippines vary from small company-owned shacks or sheds along the highway or main street, to large, complex terminals that function like an airport or train station and are built at the edge of town. Small bus stations have limited facilities, and may be just a patch of asphalt, concrete or dirt with a spartan waiting area and restroom. Large bus stations may have more than one terminal (including those serving jeepneys and vans), and may resemble a mall or public market, having shops and a food court. Cities or towns may have one or more bus stations, and if there is more than one, each might serve a different set of destinations (e.g. in Cagayan de Oro ) or serve a particular company. Small, company-owned bus stations are usually clustered on a suburban part of town and terminals are not far apart.

In most parts of the country, you board the bus from an open area with pasalubong stores and bus company offices (and/or tickets purchased on board after departure), or you just walk on tarmac, concrete or dirt to the bus. On large, state-of-the-art bus stations like the two new terminals in Manila, the departures area works like airport airside: you must hold a ticket pre-purchased at the ticketing booths before security or pre-booked online and redeemed at the station to be admitted into departures, baggage is inspected and passengers go through a metal detector, and the bus leaves on a particular time posted on screens. Once in the boarding area, look for departure boards to find the gate where your bus departs, and find a seat on the waiting area near you gate up to boarding, where you line up to enter the bus.

Arriving at a large bus station, you get down at an unloading area, which may be within the station premises or along the road. On large stations, you are led to an arrivals area, where there are also a food court, shops, restrooms and other services, and not from there, you can find local transportation or connect with another bus to your destination. Getting down along the road or on a small terminal, there may be little to find but transport to town, and few to no restaurants around the terminal.

On board [ edit ]

inter provincial bus travel

The air conditioning can be harshly cool, so bring a light jacket, sweater or blanket to wrap yourself. This is generally useful if taking an overnight trip on any air-conditioned bus regardless of class. A few companies may offer blankets for use on overnight journeys, and is included on the ticket price.

Many buses have on-board TV or audio, which are often loud, so consider bring earplugs with you. Some buses may have multiple TV screens, and deluxe or luxury buses may have personal entertainment systems like those on airliners.

On-board WiFi is becoming common, but services are dependent on the cell phone signals along the road, and often unreliable. You can ask for the WiFi password from the conductor, or look for a posted sign for the password.

Rules on food and live animals vary from company to company, so check carefully. Food and beverages are generally allowed, and there are peddlers who enter the bus to sell food and drinks at many bus stops, but eating messy foods is discouraged, and some carriers ban them. Pets can be carried on an approved kennel or cage, but there are still companies that ban them on board and they must be carried in the baggage compartment, which is unsafe and unethical.

Passengers can carry up to 10 kg (22 lb) of carry-on ("hand-carry") luggage on board. Anything heavier than that is stowed on a compartment under the bus. In some regions, heavy luggage may be carried a roof rack instead, or even carried on board. You may have to pay a fee for excess luggage or with some operators (e.g. Victory Liner), have them delivered to your final destination as freight.

Toilets should be available on long-distance services covering more than 200 km (120 mi) or 2 hours, but older buses may not have one, so the only opportunity for toilet breaks is during the meal stop or a toilet break at every 200 km of the trip.

Smoking (and vaping) is prohibited on board the bus (and any form of public transport). It is also prohibited at the bus station, but large ones may have a smoking area for people to smoke during a layover or before boarding. On meal stops or toilet breaks, it is also common for smokers to gather at a corner or a smoking area for the duration of the stop.

Foreigners are less often seen on public buses than on planes, so be prepared to encounter jarring behaviors as anywhere in the country. On ordinary buses, expect seeing people spitting out of the open windows, sitting with someone carrying a live chicken or all their luggage with them, or even smoking on board. At any class of bus, by the way, loud conversations are common and a foreigner can call the attention of curious Filipinos. Those said, taking the bus instead of a plane provides opportunities to interact with locals and experience Filipino culture.

Stops [ edit ]

Bus stops in the Philippines may or may not be marked, and the location may only be known by word of mouth. The stop usually have a shelter ("waiting shed") and is usually next to a pedestrian crossing. Most stops are also served by jeepneys, and generally labeled "loading and unloading areas" on signs.

Meal stops are part of long-distance bus trips, and the bus will have a scheduled stop onto a roadside restaurant, service area, or bus station where all passengers get off for a breakfast, lunch or dinner. The restaurant usually serve Filipino food (or the local cuisine) of varying quality, and the stopover area or restaurant are usually tied with or completely owned by the bus company. Meals may or may not be included on the ticket price. A meal stop usually lasts a hour, or longer if they are also waiting for boarding passengers or the stopover large.

Stay safe [ edit ]

Bus travel in the Philippines is often unsafe, especially with provincial buses. Buses do get involved in a lot of accidents, from simple head-on or rear-end crashes with other traffic, to vehicles running off cliffs on mountain roads. Some advice are:

  • Ask locals or for what are the safer operators of a certain route.
  • Avoid taking ordinary buses unless there is no alternative. Most are crowded and overloaded, and the vehicle may be dilapidated.
  • Think twice before taking overnight buses , as they do get involved in many deadly crashes. Buses on overnight routes may not have a second driver, and the driver may have taken up drugs to keep themselves awake. Stick to reputable bus companies, or book a flight instead.

Crimes on buses is uncommon on provincial routes, but more so in city buses and medium-distance provincial routes, where standing passengers are normal. Pickpocketing is the most common crime aboard buses, but distraction theft also happen.

Beware also of scams at large bus stations. One common scam involves fake porters, which will bring you to overpriced shops or restaurants.

Buses have been the target of some terrorist incidents in the 2000s. In the wilder parts of Mindanao , buses may get bombed by terrorists or attacked by bandits, so, passengers can only board at designated stops or stations, and luggage may be inspected by transportation police.

This post was updated on August 3rd, 2023.

On October, 2018, Greyhound Canada canceled all of its Canadian routes located west of Ontario. The familiar white and blue buses have stopped all service in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, as well as Northwestern Ontario, ending service beyond Sudbury. The lone surviving route is  between Vancouver and Seattle , which will still be offered by Greyhound .

Best bus options in Western Canada

Over the last few years, Busbud has worked to find and integrate alternative bus operators serving Western Canada so that customers will still have access to affordable and sustainable bus travel on our website and app. We were able to bring you new bus options on the most popular routes in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

Greyhound bus alternatives in Alberta

Busbud customers have other options than Greyhound Canada in Alberta and Ontario with Red Arrow coverage . The company operates hundreds of routes in both provinces, making it easy to travel around the two provinces. Busbud travelers seem to enjoy their amenities too, since the company has a 4.5 stars rating – an expressive number for the industry.

Another option is Ebus . The company has several routes in Alberta and British Columbia, offering services between prominent cities, like Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurry, Vancouver, Kamloops, Kelowna and Prince George. The buses have WiFi, restrooms and power outlets. Busbud customers rate Ebus with 4.3 starts.

Travelers can also choose Rider Express services to explore not just Western Canada but also various cities in Ontario. The company offers routes connecting cities within British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario, as well as routes between provinces. Apart from the in-province routes, you can embark on trips from Vancouver to Calgary , Calgary to Regina, Winnipeg to Regina, Saskatoon to Edmonton, Toronto to Ottawa, and many other exciting destinations. It’s an excellent way to discover the country! Busbud travelers rate them with 4.2 stars.

Cold Shot is another provider offering transportation throughout Alberta, covering 29 cities in the province. Their buses also serve two cities in British Columbia, giving passengers more options to choose from. On Busbud, travelers give them 4.0 starts and ratings, much due to their limited amenities, as their buses don’t offer bathrooms. Yet, they do have WiFi and power outlets.

Another choice in Alberta is traveling with The Canada Bus , a company that serves routes within the province, connecting the cities of Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary. They’re known for their punctual services and comfortable buses, all equipped with bathrooms, WiFi and power outlets. Travelers on Busbud rate them with 4.4 stars.

Also in Alberta, travelers can find shuttle operators to go from the big cities to the smaller tourist towns of Banff , Canmore and Lake Louise . The options are traveling with Vivo Green and RTB Tours. The companies also offer bus trips between Calgary International Airport and the Rocky Mountains.

Alberta bus companies’ alternatives on Busbud :

  • Rider Express
  • The Canada Bus
  • SunDog Tours
  • Thompson Valley Charter

Greyhound bus alternatives for British Columbia

For our travelers to beautiful British Columbia as well as local folks, we’ve successfully replaced coverage on Vancouver to Squamish with Squamish Connector , offering multiple departure and arrival points in both cities. The company is highly rated, with 4.7 stars on Busbud and many compliments.

We have also added YVR Skylynx , a 4.5-star company, and Epic Rides , rated at 4.7, on the popular Vancouver to Whistler route. With a pick-up point at the Vancouver YVR airport and a direct connection to Whistler , the (arguably) best slopes in Canada are much closer than you think!

More good news is coming from Ebus , which has expanded its coverage in the wake of Greyhound’s decision and is now serving routes in British Columbia. Although the bulk of its routes are located in Alberta, Ebus has added Vancouver , Kamloops,   Kelowna ,  Abbotsford , Chilliwack , Hope , Merritt , Vernon , Surrey and Coquitlam as notable destinations.

If you wish to travel between British Colombia and Alberta, the aforementioned Rider Express has another cross-province bus on the very popular route between Vancouver and Calgary , with daily buses between the two cities.

For routes within Vancouver Island, you can count on Tofino Bus, as the company offers trips between Nanaimo and Victoria, Duncan and Victoria, Port Alberni and Victoria and many more. Their shuttle bus services are rated with 3.6 stars by Busbud travelers.

British Columbia (BC) bus companies alternatives on Busbud :

  • Squamish Connector
  • YVR Skylynx

All routes from these bus companies are already available on busbud.com. Adding more Canadian inventory as well as working closely with local operators to expand coverage on the ground is always one of Busbud’s top priorities.

These are fricken useless!!!!!!!! ebus at at the airport. My transit bus does not operate early enough in the morning to connect to it. If I took the afternoon one I would be stranded in Vancouver at midnight! The same goes for the return trip to Kelowna! I sure hope someone soon is smart enough to make the bus accessible to everyone and at appropriate times !!!!!

Hello Marianne!

We completely understand your situation. Greyhound’s departure leaves a big void in the Canadian bus industry. Smaller local carriers are stepping up and trying to increase their coverage to give travellers the most options. It is still a work in progress and there still needs more departures and more routes to and from many communities. Our mission at Busbud is to make bus travel accessible to everyone by working hand in hand with bus companies. We will keep Canadians as well as international travellers informed of any new development!

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have more questions.

Roxanne from Busbud

This is a good start to Greyhounds Departure. There is only one route I take. That is the Edmonton to Medicine Hat route by greyhound. For people who take public transit to connect with these partner bus connectors. Consider saving enough for a cab to the pick up location. Then you can catch the bus when public transit doesn’t serve people. We all can push for a taxi flat rate to these bus stations.

There’s nothing that connects through the trans Canada highway.

There’s no mention of a bus service that connects from Salmon Arm,to Calgary.

This route is a MAJOR connection between provinces…

they need inter provincial buses to cities Calgary and Winnipeg .

I need to let you know one bus company that is clearly missed here… Rider Express. They serve the Trans Canada Highway. Not exactly sure of the stop locations though. they have routes in Sask currently. Rider express has new routes coming on line slowly, Current ones that I know of, Prince Albert to Saskatoon, Saskatoon – Regina, Winnipeg – Regina, Regina – Calgary, Calgary – Banff – Kamloops ( I’m sure people will be hard pressing on this route to stop in Cannmore, Lake Louise, Field, Golden, Revelostoke, Sicamous, Salmon Arm. I wont be surprised if the request gets heavy on this route…) New route added just recently not listed yet – Saskatoon to Edmonton ( Again heavy pressure on this route to stop in Battlefords – Lloydminster – Mannvile, Vegerville No routes yet from Edmonton to jasper I hope Rider Express will cover this route to connect to the BC North Bus in Valuemount BC then continue on to Kamloops BC

Edmonton to Saskatoon will come up very soon around the end of this month in time for the Christmas holidays.

Here’s the website address for Rider Express based in Regina Sask https://riderexpress.ca/

EBus is too expensive; it is over 15$ more to get from Abbotsford to Vancouver. Not only that, the station is all the way at the airport instead of within range of the transit system.

I live in cranbrook bc and my only fricken option is to fly just to go to calgary since I dont drive…..there needs to be a bus replacement here cant fork out $500 everytime I wanna go see my family..

Nelson to Regina. Got anything there? This sucks with no greyhound. I think we should lobby for it back

Hi i was wondering what about bus rout from kamloops B.C. to lethbridge AB.? Will there be a bus that travels that way? Jst a thought?

There’s absolutely nothing for Northern BC, nothing at all connecting from Prince Rupert all the way to wherever the closet bus to these listed is. Prince George is a major hub up here, while these may be good for southern BC, it does not help up here. Do you know if anything will be added?

the small buses are not enough we busses that connect long distance routes between places like to Calgary and Vancouver and Winnipeg to Edmonton and cities in between .

the small buses are not enough we need buses that connect long distance routes between places like to Calgary and Vancouver and Winnipeg to Edmonton and cities in between .

Another suggestion would be Kelowna to Penticton/Osooyos area. Greyhound prevented local transit from extending from Peachland to Summerland. It’s a mire popular route than some realize.

There doesn’t seem to be anything heading east from Calgary or Edmonton. I live in Drumheller and now that greyhound is gone there is nothing. This is a major tourist destination in summer and the largest centre between Calgary and Saskatchewan border. It would be a great stop for a longer route going through from AB to SK or MB.

Prince George to Edmonton … what Bus will take me there ?

Northen British Columbia, the Kootenays are literally abandoned. Any word for areas up there. Remote regions?

You need to specify with lines are accessible or define them when they are not. Northen BC has BC Transit running through from Prince George to Prince Rupert. Don’t see that listed. There are a couple more smaller ones I have heard about running north. All non accessible. Accessible needs are serviced from Northern BC from Prince George in all directions to Vancouver by Northern Health Connenections, no medical appointments needed. All rides must be prebooked

If you can get to the Via Rail station in Kamloops, there is a Vancouver-Edmonton train that you can use. I don’t know if there are any other stops that might be helpful.

I don’t see a Bus from Prince George to Edmonton… My Kids n Grandkids n Mom live there.. How am I suppose to Go see them when there is No Bus to take Me there ???!!!

There should be a definite Bus for Prince George to Edmonton there and back…… it’s a major connector for many travelers and I’m really surprised there is no Bus listed for that Hwy 16 East Highway Route. I believe You will Assign a Bus to take that Driving Job for the many Passengers who used this frequently with Greyhound before They abandoned Us and Hope You will get a Bus going soon for Prince George to Edmonton cuz We need to See Our Family that Live that Distance away from Us.

Wish everything stayed the same as hreyhound, such as dates and times… sucks how i had to quit my job due to different times and dates for this new system

Any idea when buses go province to province

If you have any information about bus travel between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Kenora, Ontario, thank you for letting me know!

We now have all Rider Express routes available on Busbud. The article has been updated to show this information. Rider Express is indeed a great bus company with cross province routes between Saskatchewan and Alberta as well as Alberta and British Colombia. We are very happy to be offering their tickets on our platform and we are still looking into adding more inventory in Northern BC and the prairie provinces.

There needs to be more coordination of linking bus times . The private stage coach line from Trail BC connects to lots of smaller towns and arrives at noon at the orchard park Mall . The Ebus only stops at the Kelowna airport or downtown . It leaves 5 hours later .

To clarify , the trail BC stage coach line arrives at its final destination in Kelowna . To catch a bus to Vancouver , the traveller must get to the airport or downtown Kelowna . Then there is a five hour wait until the bus leaves for Vancouver . This is not easy for anyone with children or are seniors .

CRANBROOK!! WE ARE LEFT IN LIMBO. ITS TRUE 590 BUCKS PLUS CAB FARES EACH END. I JUST GOT CHARGED $41.40 FOR A 19 MINUTE CAB RIDE FROM CRANBROOK AIRPORT TO THE STRIP. NOT EVEN DOWNTOWN. MASSIVE RIO OFF.

Man greyhound shutting down just ruined my trip home. Saved up 4000$ and now i find out I’m going to just have to ride freight trains the whole way. Via wants 2’000$ and can’t board planes.

I never had a clue one could drive from the United States straight up Interstate 95 right into Canada until I experimented with the idea though I’ve never followed through with it in my teenage years. I drove from New York City with friends to Maine but turned around and went back.

My experience with Greyhound is a prime example of why they are loosing valued members. Yesterday 22 Apr 2019 waiting at the bus junction location for them to stop and pick up my Daughter to get her back to the cite. The first Greyhound did not stop although the driver made eye contact with me and kept driving. Called and was told that it was not the correct bus and that her bus was broke down and running late. The next bus came and continued without stopping so we called again and told that was not her bus and it was going to be even later. Again the 3rd bus went by and did not slow down or anything and again we call to find out that it was her bus this time and that we had missed it even though we were standing there and watched it drive by. Asked the person that we were talking to what was going on and when could we expect the next bus. Was told that here was not going to be another bus and that she could catch the bus tomorrow. Not acceptable as we were at the bus stop and they did not stop. She also need to be to work tomorrow and we needed to get her there. Nothing they could do or would do. Also told that we would have to call back tomorrow and see about getting our money refunded. So how do you get your daughter home when they do not stop or care that you are left stranded waiting for them? Not to mention the 1.5 hours of driving to the bus stop, 3 hours of waiting as they were late and did not stop. Then another 5 hours of driving to get her home plus all the fuel to go to the city and back home. Only a refund on the ticket and a sorry we did not stop and you had to drive her vice using the ticket that you paid for a couple months in advance and oh by the way 7 to 14 business days for the refund. Not sure that I will advise anyone to use their services unless you are in a big city and are going to another city.

Patiently waiting for your next blog. 🙂

Someone needs to pick up routes in the east kootenays. Paying over $400 to fly to Cranbrook is insane. I can’t drive due to medical reasons, and from Kelowna you’re pretty much trapped, unless you want to go to Vancouver. I can’t get to cgy for specialist appts…nothing and flying just isn’t affordable. Won’t be making my reunion in Cranbrook….can’t get there. TRAPPED!

This Really a nice blog to learn the new things

It’s not just Cranbrook that’s in limbo; the entire East and West Kootenays, which are too far West for Ottawa to see and too far East for Fantasy Island (Victoria is not traditionally in touch with realities not local to its own) to know we exist, and as such there’s no travel abilities between any two Kootenay cities, save the occasional medical connector such as between Cranbrook and Creston but which is still expensive for not running often enough to avoid otherwise unnecessary hotel stays. This is bad for Kootenay economy and Victoria’s tax revenue, so you’d think they’d try to help us, but yes, the whole Kootenays needs some bus service now.

Bus in Vietnam

  • 1. Inter-provincial buses
  • 2. Local buses
  • 3. Bus travel tips

In Vietnam, bus is the cheapest and most convenient means of transportation for foreign travellers, since the bus system has been well-developed and covered almost every part of the country. If you are stuck on the very first steps such as how to find a bus or which route to go, stay calm and read the following guide.

Inter-provincial buses

Each province in Vietnam has its own major terminal, especially in big cities like Hanoi (My Dinh Bus station, Giap Bat Bus station), Ho Chi Minh City (Mien Tay, Mien Dong); you can find buses going to every tourism destination as well as other province in Vietnam. Typically, inter-provincial buses are high quality ones with good services, large and comfortable seats. All you have to do is to buy tickets from registered ticket booths inside the terminal, and later show it to the conductor on the bus. There is no limitation for the size of baggage.

inter provincial bus travel

The price depends on the distance of the route and type of seats chosen. Tourists can ask their travel agencies to purchase ticket in advance, or even book ticket via phone or Internet by themselves. Notice that Internet booking bus ticket is not very popular, only applicable to a few large bus companies like Hoang Long. If you depart from minor provinces and there is no direct route to your intend destinations, it is advisable to catch a bus to major cities (Hanoi for northern provinces, Hue or Da Nang for central area, and Ho Chi Minh City for southern provinces) and then change the bus there.

Local buses

In Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and some major tourism destinations, there is public bus service for people both local and foreigners. Those buses also departure from major terminals before heading to other streets. In other provinces, we also have buses run by private companies. Passengers can catch bus at bus stops scattering around the province and buy ticket directly from the conductor. Although the ticket is very cheap (under VND 10000), the service is not very high (you may have to stand if the bus is too crowded, the bus may not have air conditioner, or the conductor cannot speak English). However, local bus is one interesting way to understand more or make friends with local people.

Bus travel tips

• Only buy bus tickets from registered booths of large companies inside the terminals. Some prestigious names to mention are Hoang Long, Viet Thanh, Sinh café, Hanh Café and Mai Linh. Avoid waiving bus along the way for your own safety reasons (those buses may run around the cities until it collects enough passengers, which may take hours)

• Ask the price before hopping on or you may be overcharged. Normally, ticket price is the same to everyone.

• Bring along with you a piece of paper and a pen to write down your destination or questions, as language barrier can cause difficulties.

• Keep strict eye on your luggage and wallet, especially if using public and local bus.

• Do not hesitate to ask the conductor, the driver or even your fellow passengers if there is anything making you confused. Vietnamese are very friendly; they will be more than willing to help you.

Sri Lanka lifts inter-provincial travel ban as Covid-19 vaccination accelerates

The government also allowed the resumption of public bus services from sunday while train services would resume from monday. officials told pti that crowding in these transport services is not allowed..

The Sri Lankan government lifted the three-month-long inter-provincial travel ban across the country on Sunday as the vaccination drive against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) picked up pace, news agency PTI reported. However, the inter-provincial travel at present is only given to government employees on official duty, senior health official Asela Gunawardena said.

This will be the first time that public transport will be operational across Sri Lanka since late April.(Reuters file photo)

The government also allowed the resumption of public bus services from Sunday while train services would resume from Monday. Officials told PTI that crowding in these transport services is not allowed. “We will allow buses to take passengers strictly limited to their seating capacity,” state public transport minister Dilum Amunugama.

This will be the first time that public transport will be operational across Sri Lanka since late April when the government imposed tough travel curbs due to a massive spike in Covid-19 cases following the Sinhalese New Year.

The lifting of the travel bans and resumption of public transport in the country comes days after the government said on July 30 that it was ending work-from-home for all government employees despite no improvement in the ongoing pandemic situation. PB Jayasundera, the current secretary to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, said there was no need for government employees to work from home as the majority of them had been vaccinated.

Sri Lanka is reaching the 10 million milestone for its ongoing vaccination drive against the coronavirus disease and more than 84 per cent of the population above 30 years has been given at least one dose of the vaccine, according to a report by the Lankaxpress. The country has received over 13.8 million vaccines, the report added . And on Saturday, Sri Lanka received 728,460 doses of AstraZeneca from the COVAX programme.

Meanwhile, a total of 308,812 people were infected with Covid-19, while 277,118 patients have recovered and 4,436 died so far. The daily cases in Sri Lanka have been over the 2,000-mark daily during the last week.

Inter-provincial travel: How the laws change at each lockdown level

It’s been a long lockdown, and many of us will be ready for a road trip. But inter-provincial travel is so near, yet so far at this crucial stage.

Tom Head

If you’re itching to get away from your familiar surroundings, we’re afraid that the current restrictions don’t allow for inter-provincial travel at Advanced Level 3. However, there may be light at the end of this lockdown tunnel.

When will inter-provincial travel be allowed in South Africa?

The subject of where South Africans can and cannot go has been under scrutiny since the end of June, as the debate about intra and inter-provincial travel continues to put pressure on both the government and the tourism industry – the cornerstone of South Africa’s beleaguered economy is now losing almost R1bn a day, and one of the country’s leading tourist firms is pleading for inter-provincial travel to get the green-light.

“The Tourism Business Council of SA is making an urgent call to government to hear the plea of the sector and relax domestic interprovincial leisure laws immediately, thereby significantly reducing the number of retrenchments across the sector… it will bring hope to the industry and mitigate many job losses.” TBCSA

With TBCSA’s request fresh in our minds, we had a look at how the inter-provincial travel laws change at each lockdown level. Whether our next move is forward or backward, things will change dramatically…

Rules for inter-provincial travel at each lockdown level

( These guidelines have been taken from the government’s official coronavirus website . The rules may be subject to change as we progress further with the lockdown )

Only essential travel permitted, barely any movement allowed between provinces at this stage. In special circumstances, workers can cross the borders (permit-dependent).

More people are allowed to travel to funerals. A ‘one-way travel window’ allows people to go to a different province if it better suits their work or family commitments, but an individual must then stay at that new location until Level 4 is finished .

Level 3 and Advanced Level 3:

Work-related travel reasons are relaxed, learners can cross borders in their journey to school, you can move house or seek medical treatment across a provincial border if appropriate , children can move between co-parenting households, citizens can undertake provincial travel to care for a relative. Leaving quarantine also permitted.

Level 2 and Level 1

This is what many are waiting for. According to the government’s current guidelines, all inter-provincial travel will return at Level 2. This may still be months away, but it will almost certainly be SA’s next lockdown phase. Rules for domestic air travel are also likely to ease at this point

Current rules for intra-provincial travel:

  • This is permitted with very few restrictions from Level 3 onwards.
  • For Level 4 and 5, lengthy journeys and traveling for ‘most outdoor exercise’ is forbidden.
  • At Advanced Level 3 and beyond, South Africans can holiday and book overnight stays in their own provinces.

INTERCITY BUS SERVICES

LOCATION: NATIONAL   DATE: December 1, 2022 SUGGESTED RESPONSES

  • The Government of Canada recognizes the important role that intercity bus services play in supporting the lives of many Canadians – including students, seniors and those living in rural, remote and Indigenous communities.
  • The pandemic exacerbated a number of ongoing challenges encountered by the intercity bus sector. Many carriers limited, suspended or cancelled services.
  • However, Canada’s surface transportation network remains resilient. I am pleased to see that many carriers are resuming their intercity services and new operators are beginning to enter the market.
  • Since 1954, provinces and territories have been primarily responsible for the economic regulation of intercity bus services in their jurisdiction as per the Motor Vehicle Transport Act . As such, provincial and territorial governments play the lead role in crafting and implementing solutions for the sector.
  • Following Greyhound’s decision to discontinue all its domestic bus services in Canada, I wrote to provincial and territorial colleagues encouraging collaboration to support the intercity bus sector.
  • The Government of Canada has since engaged provinces and territories on the state of intercity buses and continues to encourage collaboration on potential sectoral solutions.

IF PRESSED:

  • During 2021 engagement, provinces and territories identified unique regional challenges faced by operators. Provinces and territories reached consensus on an approach to continue to monitor sectoral developments and identify potential solutions within their respective jurisdictions.
  • The Government remains open to collaborating with provinces and territories, in their capacity as the lead economic regulators, as well as with industry stakeholders to ensure Canada’s surface transportation network meets the mobility needs of Canadians and supports Canada’s economic recovery.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

  • In 2018, Greyhound discontinued all of its domestic routes west of Sudbury, Ontario, resulting in service gaps in the intercity bus network. In May 2021, Greyhound discontinued all its remaining Canadian services.
  • A number of new operators have entered the market to fill in gaps left by Greyhound.  However, some service gaps remain, particularly in smaller communities with low ridership.
  • COVID-19 impacted the limited commercial viability of many intercity bus services, exacerbating challenges for operators that were potentially struggling financially before the onset of the pandemic.
  • During the pandemic, several intercity bus operators obtained financial support through federal programs (e.g., Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, Business Credit Availability Program). As many intercity bus operators also offer charter services, indirect financial assistance has also been provided through the Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program and Highly Affected Sectors Credit Availability Program.
  • The Government of Canada is investing $14.9 billion in public transit projects. In 2021, the Government introduced the Rural Transit Solutions Fund as part of this funding to support locally championed transit initiatives for those living in rural and remote communities. A minimum of 10% of the $250 million fund will be also allocated to Indigenous projects led by and for Indigenous populations. The Government also established the $2.75 billion Zero Emission Transit Fund to support public transit and school bus operators purchase 5,000 zero emission buses and build supporting infrastructure. This investment in public transportation also includes $3 billion annually in permanent public transit funding, beginning in 2026.

inter provincial bus travel

There might be

Although I never heard of anyone taking a bus between these 2 cities, stranger things have happened....

inter provincial bus travel

There is...but very limited...takes 13 hours, costs 1000 rubles (~33-35). The one that runs every day leaves at 7:20 in the evening and gets in at 8:20. There are others, but getting to the station they leave from can take a while even on the Metro (it is located at very end of the Metro in the south - wrong direction from St. Petersburg.

A train, 4 person cabin, can be used at around $100/person...and takes only 8 hours. To me, for all the criteria you mention, except for price, a train wins hands down all the time!

13 hrs on a bus... that's cruel and unusual. No wonder few ppl go this route

Just take a train like everyone else.

http://www.rzd.ru is only in Russian (though can be used with some advice!) or use an agency to buy train tickets such as http://www.realrussia.co.uk

Daytime high-speed 'Sapsan' (Peregrine Falcon) trains take 3 hours 50 minutes, or there are time-effective overnight sleeper trains such as the famous 'Red Arrow'/Krasnaya Strela.

I am a fan of the overnight train as they a) save on a night in a hotel, and also b) get you there during "downtime" - that is, assuming you can sleep, and assuming the time of year gives you daylight hours to wander around the city and take in the sites until very late at night.

The down side is you don't get to take in the countryside, which is quite interesting, But then at the speeds the Sapsan express moves, I have found this to not give on much chance to really look at things much as you whisk along...

inter provincial bus travel

So, as advised above, take either day or night train - you'll be safe and comfortable and no problem.

inter provincial bus travel

Take a train, I would not take a bus anywhere in Russia. It's not the other people on the bus you would have to worry about, it's the drivers and other people on the road. Road conditions are very bad also. AIM.

Thanks for info.

Day trip to Suzdal from Moscow: transport, sights, maps and tips

inter provincial bus travel

 DAY TRIP TO SUZDAL

Suzdal is one of the most popular destinations on the Golden Ring and the whole city is often described as an open-air museum.  The city has no railway station and practically no heavy industry, meaning that is has preserved its provincial charm and a great deal of architectural monuments.

inter provincial bus travel

From Moscow, Suzdal is not as easy to get to as Sergiev Posad (the closest Golden Ring city to the capital) but it is worth going the extra distance as Suzdal provides more of a contrast from Moscow.  If you make use of high-speed trains it is possible and not too demanding to visit for even just a day, but of course spending the night there is recommended to soak in the atmosphere or to combine it with a visit to neighbouring Vladimir.  As the city is a very popular tourist destination you will have no problem finding a cafe or guesthouse there.  There is practically no public transport in the city, but the city is small and most sights are located relatively close to each other.

Getting There and Back

inter provincial bus travel

Via Vladimir

inter provincial bus travel

Direct to Suzdal

Buses directly to Suzdal leave from Moscow’s Schyolkovsky Bus Station.  There are about 9 buses a day and it takes around 4½ hours depending on traffic.  The buses stop at Vladimir too.  Using this option will mean a rather exhausting day trip.

Orientation and Main Sights

inter provincial bus travel

Suzdal is a relatively small city and it is not difficult to walk around the city to see most of the sights.

Suzdal

The main road in the city is Ulitsa Lenina which runs north across the whole city.

Suzdal

The main sights of Suzdal are located either on or just off this road, including the two main sights: the Suzdal Kremlin in the south and the Spaso-Yevfimiev Monastery in the north.

Suzdal

More information about Suzdal can be found on our Suzdal  pages.

inter provincial bus travel

Suzdal is famous for its medovukha (mead) which is an alcoholic drink made out of honey.  It can be drunk either hot or cold, meaning it perfect in both summer and winter, and you will find it on practically every menu in the city.  There are various flavours of the drink available and even a non-alcoholic version.  In addition to medovukha, you can find all traditional Russian souvenirs in the city and there is a big souvenir market on Torgovaya Ploschad.

View when driving from Yelisovo airport to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

The first myth I want to disprove is that getting to Kamchatka is extremely costly. It’s not. Going between February and April, a return flight from Moscow can be had for 11,000 roubles (US$380 / £220). Not bad for 18 hours total flying time. In summer the flights are more expensive but still, if you book them a few months in advance, can be got for 16,000 roubles return.

It’s true, many people will tell you that March and April are the worst months to visit because the snow is starting to melt and everything’s a bit sloshy and dirty in settlements. On the other hand, these are great months for the independent traveller! During winter zimniki (temporary winter roads made of compacted snow or simply frozen river surfaces) open up all over Kamchatka, granting access to communities that in summer are totally isolated. Hitch hiking is possible right from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to the very north of the peninsula. Alternatively, vehicles can be hired in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky from tour firms. Also in the winter or early spring months places can be reached that are away even from the zimniki, either by snowmobile or by the use of cross country skis. For example, Klyuchevskaya Sopka, Eurasia’s largest active volcano, can be accessed from the village of Klyuchi without the need even for a guide by a traveller with a pair of cross country skis. Bears do not wake up until mid-April so this is not a danger, but bears almost never attack anyone anyway.

The main disadvantages of winter travel in Kamchatka are that it is cold, there is no greenery and there are no bears, which some people come here especially to see.

The second myth I’d like to dispel is that travel around the peninsula requires hiring a helicopter. As mentioned above, in winter you can get almost anywhere by hitch hiking. I even hitched a lift with bear hunters on snowmobiles from their village to a reindeer herder encampment 100km away. In summer snowmobiles are replaced by horses, and transport is reduced from long distance ice-road journeys to irregular inter-settlement all-terrain vehicle trips. Hitch hiking is possible on these all-terrain vehicles though.

Throughout the year there are fairly expensive public helicopter flights to all settlements which are nevertheless much cheaper than hiring your own helicopter. There is also one permanent, year-round dirt road leading halfway up the peninsula. Some distance after the town of Milkovo, about 350km north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky , it forks. The right fork leads to Klyuchi , site of Eurasia’s largest active volcano, and further to the port town of Ust-Kamchatsk. The left fork leads to the indigenous Even villages of Anavgay and Esso. Daily buses go from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Klyuchi , Anavgay and Esso, costing about 1000 roubles each way. In winter a zimnik passable by lorries heads north from Anavgay 36 hours to the otherwise isolated town of Palana. From Palana more zimniki head further north to yet more isolated settlements. From the peninsula’s very northernmost settlements there are even EXTREMELY irregular snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle connections with Magadan Oblast and Chukotka. Another zimnik, only passable by all-terrain vehicle, heads from Anavgay to the village of Ust-Khayryuzovo on Kamchatka’s west coast.

Bust of alleged criminal drug network nets 14 arrests, millions in drugs, jewelry, guns and vehicles

Couriers, railways, bus lines and airlines used to move items, police allege.

inter provincial bus travel

Social Sharing

Police allege a "well-entrenched" criminal network, responsible for multiple firearms offences across the country, trafficked millions of dollars worth of illicit drugs and firearms into Winnipeg from Toronto.

The network used couriers, railways, bus lines and airlines to move the items, Insp. Elton Hall of the Winnipeg Police Service's organized crime unit alleged at a news conference on Wednesday.

So far, 14 people have been charged with offences related to organized crime, drug trafficking, possession of firearms, proceeds of crime and laundering proceeds of crime.

Of those, nine are from Winnipeg, two from Vancouver and three from Ontario.

Several others were arrested and released without charges, but investigations are continuing and charges are expected to be laid against many of those people, all of whom are in Winnipeg, Hall said.

Cash, guns, drugs, and jewelry are on display on a table

The investigation started after police seized more than $600,000 in cash from luggage at Winnipeg's airport in March 2022.

It expanded to the other provinces a year later and eventually led to 22 searches in a sweep through Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia in March 2024.

The following items were seized:

  • $1.7 million in Canadian cash.
  • 30 kilograms of cocaine (police-estimated street value of $3 million).
  • Four handguns (including two that were 3D printed).
  • One submachine gun with a suppressor.
  • Loaded magazines and ammunition.
  • 75 kilograms of cutting agent.
  • Hydraulic cocaine press/moulds.
  • 12 vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce valued at $450,000, four Mercedes, two BMWs and a Lexus. (Three of the vehicles had custom-made concealment compartments.)
  • A Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
  • Approximately $4 million in proceeds of crime — jewelry, vehicles and merchandise.

"We are currently investigating the opportunity to claw back a $200,000 deposit for a Lamborghini," Hall said.

Investigators also allege the network was involved in sex trafficking, extortion and fraud-related offences.

"This aspect of the investigation is ongoing."

A collage if images shows a luxury black vehicle with a compartment filled with drugs.

Hall said he couldn't discuss those matters at the moment.

"When you conduct an organized crime investigation or an investigation involving these networks of people across the country, as soon as you start following money and watching where money is going and how it's being transferred, and the amounts being transferred, you can quickly determine that you probably have a problem here with A) human trafficking or B) sex trafficking, and you have to look into it further," he said.

"This is a high-level overview of a very complex financial and criminal investigation."

A bald man with eyeglasses and a goatee is dressed in a white, collared shirt.

Hall said multiple police services and agencies were involved in the investigation, dubbed Soft Landing.

Those included the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), Brandon Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Hamilton Police Service, Peel Regional Police Service, Toronto Police Service, Halton Regional Police Service, Vancouver Police Service, Via Rail Canada Police Service and the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

  • More than a dozen arrested in organized crime investigation in Winnipeg, Vancouver, Ontario
  • Police seize more than $600K in cash from luggage at Winnipeg airport

Manitoba Justice Minister Matt Wiebe said the province provided $230,000 to support the investigation.

"[Criminal networks] bring havoc, they bring harm, they bring toxic drugs to our communities, and they must be stopped," he said.
