There’s exciting news for Jeopardy! fans as Sony Pictures Television is honoring the iconic game show’s 60th birthday with a Diamond Celebration that will bring a year of engaging experiences, limited edition merchandise, and a nationwide road tour.

“For 60 years, Jeopardy! has been America’s favorite sport of the mind, defying time and continuing to attract viewers of all generations,” said Suzanne Prete, President, Game Shows, Sony Pictures Television. “Like the true diamond that it is, we’re excited to bring our fans a year of festivities to honor this important milestone while inspiring enthusiasm for the franchise’s future through the 60th Diamond Celebration.”

The celebration officially kicks off on Saturday, March 30, aka “JeoparDAY!,” with the launch of the Why Not You? Campaign, a new contestant recruitment initiative intended to inspire more fans to take the Jeopardy! Anytime Test . On this day, the best and brightest contestant hopefuls are invited to take the test for a chance to compete on the show.

Then, from April through December, a series of nationwide live events and activations curated for Jeopardy! fans will take place, starting in New York and then rolling out in various cities across the United States.

The first Jeopardy! fan experience will take place on Friday, April 12, at Edge at Hudson Yards and will feature a live taping of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, plus a live play-along game. The ticketed event will also include appearances from host Ken Jennings and super-champs Matt Amodio , Mattea Roach , and Austin Rogers .

Another part of the festivities is the launch of a new Jeopardy! bar trivia game that will be coming to major cities later this fall, in addition to other initiatives that will be announced at a later date.

My First Sony Pictures Studio Tour in Los Angeles, California

(Cross-posted from my other blog Reel Travels Magazine)

I love love love any kind of tour or museum that has film or television memorabilia. So I knew on my three-week road trip to WrestleMania 39 , I had to stop and take a Sony Pictures Studio Tour . This tour — which I took with my son Travis — piggybacked off the Hollywood Museum tour a few days earlier. The Sony Pictures Studio Tour ranks right up there with the Hollywood Museum. It was absolutely amazing.

I have to be honest, though. It started off a bit slow. We walked around the lot for quite some time where we were shown the outside s of buildings where certain shows were filmed. All I kept thinking was, Are we ever going inside? I guess I was impatient because of course we did, and the rest of the tour was so much fun.

I was in the same studio where they filmed the 1939 The Wizard of Oz and stood on the trap door that raised up Glinda. I saw more memorabilia from some of my favorite TV shows and movies, especially Breaking Bad (below). If you want to re-read my post on the Breaking Bad Store in Albuquerque, New Mexico, click here .

I held an Emmy and an Oscar (my heart literally skipped a beat!).

jeopardy studio tour

I sat in the audience in the actual Jeopardy studio; it’s much smaller than I thought it would be. Then, I also stood behind a Jeopardy contestant podium. Look how much I won!

jeopardy studio tour

My son and I sat on the Seinfeld couch (okay this was a recreation, but still).

I touched the car from Cobra Kai . This next part made me the most excited on the entire tour — I FINALLY touched one of the actual RVs used in Breaking Bad . I literally gasped when I saw it. The photo is the main photo for this article, but I confess that I did not put those bullet holes in the door! LOL According to the tour guide, there were a few RVs used, but the one they had was definitely one of them.

So Much More

We were supposed to see the Wheel of Fortune set, but they were closed when we were there. Here are a few more pictures. From left to right, Venom, SpiderMan, and Ghostbusters.

jeopardy studio tour

On the Sony Pictures Studio Tour website they write, “ Keep your eyes open… You never know what – or who – will be around the next corner. ” True, because there were a few shows shooting around the outside of the lots that we walked by. Honestly, I can’t remember which ones they were but some of the other people on the tour got excited.

I was using a cane on the tour because I had tweaked my knee and I’m glad I brought it because if I hadn’t I might not have been able to keep up with it. So be aware that it’s a LOT of walking. There weren’t any bathroom breaks. The tour ended at, of course, the souvenir shop.

This tour was definitely memorable and you do get a free photo in front of the Jeopardy board that you can do with your entire party. That photo, however, is taken in front of a green screen even though you get to see the studio and the actual Jeopardy board.

Tickets for the Sony Pictures Studio Tour are $55 and the tour lasts for two hours. They also offer private tours, group tours, VIP lunch tours, and Halloween twilight tours (seasonal, starting at 6 p.m.) tours. Jeopardy Is Finally Resuming Regular Episodes Soon, And The Returning Champion Boasts A New Record

The tournament fatigue is real.

Ken Jennings smiling in front of game board on Celebrity Jeopardy!

This is not a drill, Jeopardy ! fans. One of the best game shows of all time is about to return to its regularly scheduled programming. No more celebrities, no more second chances, no more wild cards, no more JIT. Just your regular old smarter-than-the-average-human Jeopardy ! contestants. It’s happening sooner than you may realize, too, as the aforementioned Jeopardy ! Invitational Tournament comes to a close, and as for our long-waiting returning champion Lucas Partridge, he will grace the Alex Trebek Stage with a new record to his name.

When it comes to the cascade of tournaments that we’ve seen in the past months, Jeopardy! may have saved the best for last, with the so-called JIT welcoming back icons of the game , both classic and modern. The semifinals are underway, with the finals starting Friday, April 5. The first finalist to win two games claims the $100,000 prize and a coveted spot in the upcoming Jeopardy! Masters tournament. Producer Sarah Foss explained on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast what that means:

[The JIT finals] could run as little as two games, as many as four, which means next week, no matter what, we will be back to regular Jeopardy! I know people are excited.

People certainly are excited! The last time three civilians brandished the buzzers was on July 28, 2023. That will end next week, with regular Jeopardy! starting back between Tuesday, April 9, and Thursday, April 11, depending on how long it takes someone to clinch the Invitational Tournament.

Sarah Foss also pointed out that Lucas Partridge, who has accumulated $66,200 so far from his three victories from last summer, is now the title-holder of a new record. She continued:

We’re going to welcome back — you might not remember him, it was so long ago — our three-game champion Lucas Partridge. You know, he now holds a record he never wanted to hold, and that is the longest-reigning Jeopardy! champion.

While the rest of us Jeopardy! fans have been suffering from tournament fatigue, Lucas Partridge has been able to walk around as the reigning champion. Podcast co-host Buzzy Cohen noted as much, saying it wasn’t the record itself that Partridge may find undesirable. Cohen said:

Well I’m sure he wanted to hold that, but not for the reasons that he has.

It will be great to see the school counselor from Las Vegas return to the show, and it will be equally nice to see two complete strangers standing next to him. Only time will tell if the long layover worked to Lucas Partridge’s advantage or not. Hopefully he used the time to sharpen up his World Capital skills and really hone in on his knowledge of Composers.

Either way, one thing the contestant can count on is having the same host as when he left. Ken Jennings finished out the final episodes of Jeopardy! ’s 39th season when Mayim Bialik chose to stand in solidarity with the striking Writers Guild of America members. It has since been announced that The Big Bang Theory actress will not return , and Jennings — one of Jeopardy ’s biggest winners — will continue as the sole host.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .

Jeopardy Taping

Me and my wife actually had 2 tickets bought to the studio tour, but then we were accepted to getting tickets to Jeopardy. After reading reviews on here about the actual tour, and me being a jeopardy fan, i opted to do the jeopardy. We had a great time, what an experience to see it live! Definitely recommend people going to see this taping if they are fans of the show. The only sucky thing was they say on the tickets no cameras or everything so we left ours in the car. When you walk into the stage there are cool things to take pictures of and people were allowed to with their cell phones. i got some serious FOMO (fear of missing out) from this :( but oh well, the taping was still great!

Not your canned bus ride tour. Wonderful - personal ! Not rushed and great insight!! Took us to normally unseen areas. Great.

This is not like universal with rides and gift shops at every turn it is a working studio.it is a place where the greatest films were made.just like if you go to a roman ruin you are there for the history of a place.if you stand at the entrance to the stage where the wizard of oz or where they filmed the fight scene of rocky 4 or where johnny wiesmuller swang thru trees you get a sence of how important these old sounstages are.our guide tony was superb.hilarious and very informative.oh and make sure u splash some green for these guys you deadbeats.tony you rock! Richie from london.

Compared to the Warner Brothers and Paramount tours, this was poor. We spent most of the tour walking around the outside of sound stages hearing about them instead of going in. The best part of the tour was getting to see the scoring studio where John Williams recorded many movie scores and where Judy Garland recorded "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". However, this was a rare occasion. Chances are you won't get to see this. The only other high point was seeing the Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune studios. They should at least let you see one of the sound stages used in "The Wizard of Oz" so you can get an idea of what it would have looked like when they shot it. Part of the problem is that most of the original MGM lot has been sold off over the years and the studio has changed hands many times. As a result, there's hardly any backlot. If you want to go, I recommend getting the Go Pass because this tour is included.

We reserved free tickets several weeks in advance to sit in the studio audience for the taping of several episodes of Jeopardy. For our session, there were two shows recorded. We found the production of the shows was interestng and entertaining. Even had a few retakes. Alex Trebek engages in a friendly manner with the studio office and takes questions. Parking is onsite and nearby and there was about an hour wait to get in. There were a few empty seats for our tapings.....not sure if that usually happens. Recommend if you have interest in the show. We did not take the Sony Studios tour and had not planned to do so.

Enjoyable! Excellent bargain when using the Go Los Angeles card. We called at the last minute and made it to the Monday 9 A.M. tour. Awesome for movie fans. Props from Men in Black 3 in the lobby to peruse while waiting for the tour to begin. Upscale cafeteria in the lobby. This is a walking tour, so wear comfortable shoes.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
