Villa Padierna, Marbella, Spain

What a week!

The second edition of the WJGC took place in Spain, at the fabulous Villa Padierna Resort, between the 20th and 22nd February 2024 – it attracted over 250 of the best players from around Europe and the rest of the world, making this event one of the largest and most prestigious junior golf tournaments to be played on European soil.

Huge thanks to our title sponsor, the Daily Mail, and very well done to all participants.

Highlights report

We are also delighted to confirm that we will be returning to Villa Padierna in 2025 (19-21 Feb). Applications will open later this year.

Daily Mail World Junior Golf Championship

Daily Mail World Junior Golf Championship 2024 The second edition of the World Junior Golf Championship (WJGC) took place in Spain between 20th and 22nd February 2024, where over 250 players from 36 countries competed in the event sponsored by the Daily Mail, and juniors from nine different nationalities were crowned champions. We may well have found a new home for the WJGC, as the simply breathtaking Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Resort (Marbella) hosted the event, with their magnificent hotel and two stunning courses providing the perfect venue for this major tournament on the junior golf calendar. The 5* hotel is second to none, while the Alferini and Flamingos Courses provided arguably the sternest test that we have put in front of the juniors

A 54-hole, college-style event, 90 players, 54 boys and 36 girls, secured invitations to the DJ World Junior, including Tyler Watts of Huntsville, Ala., the world’s top-ranked junior boy. Watts enters the event after 2023 wins at the Jones Cup Junior Invitational , the Keith Mitchell Junior Championship, the Southern Junior Championship , and the Alabama State Amateur .

You can view the teams and players in the field HERE .

Dustin Johnson, a member of the 4Aces GC with LIV Golf, started the team draft in 2023, and the response was positive, so they continued the format.

A Zoom call was hosted Monday with organizers and 18 playing team captains to select their team of fellow competitors. The team aspect is a new wrinkle of the tournament, which began in 2023, allowing for camaraderie among players and preparing for their future college scoring format. Each team consists of 3 boys and 2 girls in a 5 count 4 format.

Team captain Billy Davis made his selections with his future in mind. Davis selected future Auburn University teammates Jack Roberts (verbal) and Tyler Spielman (signed). Rounding out team Davis is Eileen Park and Maggie Carlson. Auburn University leads the way at the DJ, with six verbal or signed commits in the field.

Team captain Vanessa Borovilos, a Texas A&M commit, also went the future teammate route, selecting Alex Long (signed). Rounding out team Borovilos is defending tournament champion Ryleigh Knaub, Alejandro Rivas, and Darren Zhou. Blades Brown of Nashville, Tenn., is also in the field. Brown, like Watts, is a sophomore in high school coming off a spectacular 2023 that included wins at the AJGA Junior at Canebrake, the Huntsville.org Junior Championship, the Wyndham Invitational , the Tennessee Junior Amateur , and the Elite Invitational . Related: The Elite Invitational: Blades Brown and Bridget Wilkie win the titles Blades Brown wins AJGA Junior Invitational The girl's field is highlighted by the return of the top three finishers from 2023, led by reigning champion Ryleigh Knaub of DeBary, Fla. Knaub earned a two-stroke victory last year. Alice  Ziyi Zhao of Irvine, Calif., a freshman who was the runner-up, and Chloe Kovelesky of Boca Raton, Fla., a junior who finished tied for third, are back in search of the crown.

This year’s tournament will again feature a co-ed team event designed to mirror the competition players will enjoy at the collegiate level.  While just eight years old, three past champions at the DJ World Junior have already won at the game’s highest levels. In the last 12 months, Akshay Bhatia and Nick Dunlap have won on the PGA Tour, while Alexa Pano triumphed on the LPGA Tour.  “The Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship is one of the best junior events in America, and this is our strongest field to date,” tournament director Scott Tomasello said. “TPC Myrtle Beach is an ideal host course, and the tournament allows spectators to see golf’s next generation of stars up close.” Chris King contributed to this report

Cameron Smith plays a shot on day one of LIV Adelaide

Golf Australia signs deal with LIV in first partnership with Saudi-backed tour

  • Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC and LIV to help fund junior program
  • PGA of Australia still aligned with DP World Tour

LIV Golf has struck a deal to help fund Golf Australia’s junior program, in the first formal relationship between the steward of the game in Australia and the Saudi Arabia-backed entity.

The arrangement – which involves LIV and its Ripper GC franchise of Australian players led by Cameron Smith – has been in negotiations for weeks.

A formal announcement is expected in the coming days to coincide with the LIV tournament in Adelaide, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald .

The deal sees LIV and Ripper GC make it cheaper for some children to access My Golf, the junior program run by GA.

GA also has staff working on a My Golf activation in Adelaide this week alongside the LIV tournament promotions.

In 2022-23, 33,000 children participated in My Golf, according to GA’s annual report, a figure that grew 22% on the previous year.

The cost of My Golf varies depending on the location and type of program. A single after school session can cost less than $50, but a regular hit over a school term is priced in the hundreds of dollars.

GA’s decision to accept the subsidies from LIV is the first major step by Australia’s golf establishment towards the upstart tour.

The PGA of Australia (PGAA), the body representing tournament and club professionals and organiser of the Australasian Tour, is still aligned with LIV rival the DP World Tour.

As manager of the game in Australia GA’s remit is on building participation and the body receives funding from the federal government.

However, GA and the PGAA have largely combined operations, adding a layer of complexity to the deal.

GA’s chief executive, James Sutherland, said last month Australia looked at LIV differently from other parts of the world.

after newsletter promotion

“There’s clearly an ‘anti’ or a conservative sentiment about the Saudis in the US, and the further east you go on a world map from America, the more moderate the views are,” he said.

LIV commissioner Greg Norman said on Wednesday he was “very proud” of investments his organisation was making into golf generally.

“If it wasn’t for LIV, these additional investment dollars going into the sport would never have happened,” he said.

In excess of 80,000 people are expected to attend the LIV Adelaide tournament this weekend.

Norman has described the Adelaide event as the “benchmark” for LIV worldwide. LIV golf is funded by Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund.

junior world golf tour

My husband and I will be in moscow and wanted to take a side trip..understand Vladimir & Suzdal is quite nice. Do you prefer that to Sergiev Posad? Do you know any agencies that provide group tours or private tours to Vladimir & Suzdal? I understand that Patriarshy Dom is not operating its group tour during this time. Please advise. Any information you have to share would be helpful.

' class=

Vladimir & Suzdal are close to each other. you can use vladimir as base and also visit suzdal.

I will give you some links ( sorry i am out on tour and can't do more research).

http://gotorussia.vand.ru/ ( this is a tour operator offering 1 day tour from moscow to Vladimir , Suzdal or both) there are also combo tours with sergiev Possad with any of the above towns.

In order to organize tours from Vladimir, there are 3 major sites where you will get infor about the tours operating from Vladimir, how to reach there etc.

1. http://www.tour.vladimir.ru

2. http://www.vladimir-city.ru ( official site)

3. http://www.museum.vladimir.ru ( my recommended site)

<< go to english version / select option "services" / tours & excursions

My sugestion would be to go to Vladimir by train from moscow in the evening, take rest and then join a full day tour of vladimir - suzdal and return at night or next day morning. The train takes 2-3 hrs. Details available at http://www.poezda.net ( in english) .You can even book online

Trains are clean and safe. Hotel Vladimir at Vladimir is ok. near the train station. you can find the contacts in google. ( book the tickets in advance.)

You can visit sergiev possad ( quite near to moscow) using the moscow based tour agency mentioned above. They offer day trips to Sergivev possad.

If you want to search the net further, go to http://www.yandex.ru ( russian website) and type in "vladimir tour" or "suzdal tour" in ENGLISH. This will give you many sites with english option

have a nice trip

will you consider a DIY trip?

from moscow to vladimir take a long-distance train or a suburban (electrichek) train from kursky station. there are several in the daytime/early evening. certain long-distance trains are faster and can arrive in 2 hours. suburbans take 3 hrs. probably less complicated to buy suburban ticket than one of a long-distance train (where you need passport, specify what type of seat, which train number...) and also cheaper

once in vladimir you can walk around for 1-2 hours or even have your dinner there. then take a bus (avtobus) at the bus station just up a slope from the train station. the bus runs every 30-60mins till late. i took the one around 8-9pm. and the evening buses go directly into city centre of suzdal. the trip is about 40-60mins

the tricky part is if you reserve your accomodation in suzdal with a guesthouse/B&B, it may not be easy to locate. the one i had booked did not have a sign hanging at the door. i walked around for about an hour and at last had to find a local to talk to my host over phone and then she kindly led me to the right wooden house

Mytishchi is a mid-sized industrial city in North Moscow Oblast , which borders Moscow to the southwest. It is perhaps Moscow Oblast 's principal industrial center, particularly for machinery and armaments.

Get in [ edit ]

A convenient elektrichka route (in fact, the first elektrichka route in Russia) runs frequently all day between Mytishchi and Moscow's Yaroslavsky Train Station. Rapid trains (Sputniks) bound to Pushkino and Bolshevo also stop here.

You can also get here pretty easily by taking the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya metro line to the end at Medvedkovo and there catch a bus or marshrutka to the Mytishchi center from the metro station.

Do [ edit ]

There is one of the biggest ice Arenas in Region (appr. 8 500 visitors) for ice hockey.

At summer: several pay beaches at Pirogovo water reservoir. Malibu pay resort (yachts, cafes etc)

Sleep [ edit ]

  • Pushkino is just a little farther along the rail and elektrichka lines running from Moscow through Mytishchi.
