Cruise ships dock in center of Keelung and the train station are within walking distance of the pier...about 10 minutes. The main destination is the capital Taipei, which is about 24 km away.

The port itself offers a plethora of activities and things to see within ten minutes walking distance of the pier and all of the sights are accessible on foot. There is a board with pictures of the main sights as you exit the port parking lot.

Sightseeing:

Nicknamed the Rainy Port for its frequent rain and maritime role, the city is Taiwan's second largest seaport (after Kaohsiung). Keelung is currently administered as a provincial city of Taiwan Province, Republic of China.

• Miaokou Night Market . Keelung's famed Miaokou Food Market is known island wide for its wide variety of tasty snacks. Most restaurants are also open in day time.
• Visit the many forts. Ershawan Fort with 5 cannons is the most famous.
• Jungjeng Park overlooks the city and the harbor. You can get here from the train station by bus 101, 103 or 105.

The downtown area is small enough to cover on foot.

Train or bus to Taipei is easy. There will be an information desk in the tent as you get off the ship, who will give you all information times and maps. There is an english speaking booth at the train ticket counter, tickets are very cheap, the train takes 50 minutes, about every 20 minutes. The train will take you to Taipei main station. Once in Taipei, you can board the MRT from Taipei Main Station to get around. A one day pass is NT$150

Make sure the maps in your guide book have "english" as well as "chinese" characters, so you and the cabdriver can communicate by pointing at the map. Cabdrivers only speak chinese.

Shopping and Food

Keelung's Miaokou Night Market is famous throughout Taiwan for its large selection of food. It meanders through lanes and alleys in the downtown area surrounding the Dianji Temple. The night market is easily accessible on foot from the cruise port.

As in many Asian countries, night markets are a staple of Taiwanese entertainment, shopping and eating. Night markets are open-air markets, usually on a street or alleyway, with vendors selling all sorts of wares on every side.

Bargaining is in general not done.

At the port there is also an exchange tent to change your money and then to change back any unused Taiwan dollars upon return to the ship. This service is offered free and the exchange rate is good.

The currency of Taiwan is the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD, but also referred to as TWD). An easy rule of thumb is that NT$100 roughly equals US$3. Plenty of ATM's around.

Opening Hours and Holidays:

There seem not set opening hours for stores, it seems as long as there are customers they stay open. Chinese New Year,6 days long, is the time when all the Taiwanese are traveling and transportation can be very hectic.

Keelung Port East Coast Passenger Center

From Keelung Train Station, take the ""South Station"" exit and it's only an 8-minute walk to the center.

You can take bus numbers 105, 107, 108, 109, 204, 303, 306, 307, 308, 403, 407, 408, 503, 508, 605, 608 to the Erxin Circle Station, and then it's about a 4-minute walk to the center.

You can take coach numbers 1579 or 2088 to reach the center.

From National Highway 1, take the Keelung Interchange and then take Xia'er Road and Zhongyi Road to reach the center.

If you don't want to transfer or drive yourself, chartering a vehicle is a good option! You can have a professional driver pick you up from your home. No need to rush with your luggage in the early morning to catch a cruise ship or follow the crowd on public transportation. Once you successfully make a reservation, the driver will pick you up and drop you off at the designated location. There is also a more cost-effective and eco-friendly option. Since the boarding and disembarking times of each cruise ship are fixed, it is the perfect opportunity for carpooling or ride-sharing. Keelung Port West Passenger Center

You can walk from the ""North Station"" of Keelung Train Station and arrive in just 4 minutes.

You can choose to take buses 1550, 1551, 1558, 1573, 1800, 1801, 1804, 1805, 1813, 1880, or 200 to get there.

You can take National Highway 1 → Keelung Interchange → Hsiao Er Road → Chung Yi Road.

• Parking Lot Information:

Reminder: As the cruise ships at Keelung Port may dock at different locations due to port arrangements, please make sure to confirm in advance whether you will board or disembark at the East or West Wharf!

East Coast Pier

The East Coast Pier is said to be the most frequented by cruise ships. The pick-up process at the West Coast Transportation Center is similar to that of the East Coast Pier. However, there are no numbered pillars at the entrance of the West Coast Transportation Center, so you can locate yourself after claiming your luggage and then contact the driver. Keelung: tourist information

Keelung, officially known as Keelung City, is a major port city situated in the northeastern part of Taiwan. It borders New Taipei with which it forms the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area, along with Taipei itself. Nicknamed the Rainy Port for its frequent rain and maritime role, the city is Taiwan's second largest seaport.

Keelung City is located in the northern part of Taiwan Island. It occupies an area of 132.76 km2 and is separated from its neighboring county by mountains in the east, west and south. The northern part of the city faces the ocean and is a great deep water harbor since early times. Keelung has a humid subtropical climate with a yearly rainfall average upwards of 3,700 millimetres. It has long been noted as one of the wettest and gloomiest cities in the world; the effect is related to the Kuroshio Current.Although it is one of the coolest cities of Taiwan, winters are still short and warm, whilst summers are long, relatively dry and hot, temperatures can peek above 26°C during a warm winter day, while it can dip below 27 °C during a rainy summer day, much like the rest of northern Taiwan. However its location on northern mountain slopes means that due to orographic lift, rainfall is heavier during fall and winter, the latter during which a northeasterly flow prevails. During summer, southwesterly winds dominate and thus there is a slight rain shadow effect. Fog is most serious during winter and spring, when relative humidity levels are also highest.

Where is located the Port of Keelung Cruise Terminal

Travelling around the keelung (taipei) cruise port.

Keelung Train Station is an 8-minute walk across the basin. From here you can reach Taipei in about 45 to 50 minutes.

Once in Taipei, you can either walk or take the subway to the attractions you want to visit.

Buses depart to Taipei from Maritime Plaza. Departures are every 10 to 20 minutes and the journey time is about 50 minutes depending on traffic.

Once in Taipei, a hop-on hop-off tourist bus allows you to visit the city’s attractions.

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial

This impressive monument is located in the heart of Taipei. Through its exhibitions you will learn about Chiang Kai-shek’s life and you will discover the history of Taiwan.

The symbol of Taipei City, this 508-meter building has a unique architecture. The skyscraper is part of the select club of the largest buildings in the world. The observatory on the 89th floor will allow you to have a panoramic view of the city.

Lung Shan Temple

This Buddhist temple built in 1738 is the oldest in Taiwan and is dedicated to the goddess of compassion.

Martyr’s shrine

This Taipei shrine is dedicated to the memory of the men who fell in battles for the Republic of China during the Civil War. Don’t miss the changing of the guard ceremony every hour between 9a.m. and 5p.m.

Confucius Temple

A replica of the oldest Confucius temple built in the birthplace of Confucius in Shandong Province, China. Taipei’s Confucius Temple was completed in 1939.

Baoan Temple
