Stewart Lee announces new live show, The Man-Wulf

Tuesday 26th March 2024, 10:12am

  • Stand-up show Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf will tour the UK in 2025
  • "Lee shares his stage with a tough-talking werewolf comedian from the dark forests of North America who hates humanity"

Stewart Lee is to tour a new show titled Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf .

Beginning with a run at Leicester Square Theatre in December 2024 , the show will then tour the UK across 2025 .

The blurb explains: "In this brand new show, Lee shares his stage with a tough-talking werewolf comedian from the dark forests of North America who hates humanity. The Man-Wulf lays down a ferocious comedy challenge to the culturally irrelevant and physically enfeebled Lee. Can the beast inside us all be silenced with the silver bullet of Lee's unprecedentedly critically acclaimed style of stand-up?

" Stewart Lee ("the world's greatest living stand-up comedian" The Times), is in danger of being left behind. He's approaching sixty with debilitating health conditions, his TV profile has diminished, and his once BAFTA award-winning style of stand-up seems obsolete in the face of a wave of callous Netflix -endorsed comedy of anger, monetising the denigration of minorities for millions of dollars. But can Lee unleash his inner Man-Wulf to position himself alongside comedy legends like Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais and Jordan Peterson at the forefront of side-splitting stadium- stuffing shit-posting?"

A full list of tour dates will be announced later, but at the time of writing the following shows have been revealed...

London Leicester Square Theatre 3rd December 2024 - 17th January 2025

Southampton Mayflower Theatre 19th January 2025

Stewart Lee Calls Ricky Gervais' Comedy Drama Work "Abysmal"

Stewart Lee has announced national dates of his new show Basic Lee in 2023 following a run at the Leicester Square Theatre in London.

Lee writes on his newsletter: "After a decade of ground-breaking high concept shows involving overarched interlinked narratives, massive sets and enormous comedy props, Lee enters the post-pandemic era in streamlined solo stand-up mode. One man, one microphone, and one microphone in the wings in case the one on stage breaks. Pure. Simple. Classic. Basic Lee ."

One man, one microphone … Stewart Lee in Basic Lee at Leicester Square theatre.

Stewart Lee review – underpowered show still stronger than most

Leicester Square theatre, London Less richly structured than his best work, this looser-limbed evening has given the comic wing-spreading room to experiment

“P ure. Simple. Classic.” That’s the refrain – a little tongue-in-cheek, would you believe? – in Stewart Lee’s new show Basic Lee. After a series of high-concept shows (two of them recently recorded for the BBC ), Basic Lee sees the 54-year-old stripped back and celebrating the rudiments of standup. One man, one microphone, as he initially defines it – a formula that’s soon accruing qualifiers and footnotes, because Lee can no sooner do basic comedy than the government can do basic competence. But the show is more limber and loosely structured than his usual work – which comes with both gains and losses.

The gains are in encountering a comic who seems, more than in his earlier output, to be enjoying himself – and who, having created a baggier show to work with, has given himself wing-spreading room over the eight months of its London run and tour. His material on the current Tory cabinet is ostentatiously recited from cue cards – because, given the likely longevity of the Truss premiership, it’s not worth committing to memory. Of-the-moment jokes about the Queen’s funeral and the postponement of Lee’s BBC special likewise won’t be in the show for keeps. The topicality is fun, though – as long as you don’t mind that most of the gags have already moonlighted in Lee’s Observer column .

Stewart Lee in Basic Lee at Leicester Square theatre.

That’s not the only recycling here, in a show that opens with a joke Lee used to perform in the 90s, and includes a routine about Fleabag cannibalised from early versions of his 2019 Snowflake/Tornado diptych . It’s a section I was very happy to hear again, mind you, as Lee spins his fake regard for Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s formal innovations into a whole alternative history of standup, in which, when the young Lee dares to turn his act out towards the audience, comics like Daniel Kitson and Sean Lock – reactionaries both! – whip him back into line.

That confluence, of sacrilege and sarcasm, is fertile territory for Lee. So too the mockery of his audience, his own craft, and his supposed cultural significance – all even higher in the mix than usual here. There’s a choice gag imagining the logical endpoint of Lee’s act as just a figment of his audience’s imagination. Another section finds Lee parroting the snobbish fanboying of his own mostly male followers, to cheerful laughter-of-recognition breaking out around the room.

This particular fanboy missed the rich structuring of Lee’s best work, though, and found a few of tonight’s routines a bit Stew-by-numbers. An eye-catching section in the first half finds our host weighing in, and refusing to weigh in, on the JK Rowling/trans conversation. “It’s not about that!,” he protests too much – but, while I appreciate that the routine’s withholding of an opinion is partly the point, I found it a bit coy. One or two later set-pieces (the pernickety monologue about jazz; the sketch imagining his audience’s humdrum working lives) feel too schematically like good ideas for a Stewart Lee sketch – well executed, our patience duly tested, but devoid of surprise.

None of which greatly diminishes the pleasures of this two-hour set: Lee firing on only a few cylinders is still a richer comedy experience than many acts with engines at full throttle. It may not be pure, simple or classic Lee. But it’s a chance to see this most meticulous of standups let it all hang out – and that’s a chance worth taking.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Kevin Hart waves to the crowd.

On May 5, Kevin Hart will host the ‘Roast of Tom Brady’ at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum as part of the Netflix is a Joke Festival.

However, that’s far from the only gig the 2024 Mark Twain Prize For American Humor winner has lined up this year.

From April all the way up until December, the prolific 44-year-old comic will perform at venues all over North America as part of his ‘Acting My Age Tour.’

That includes a pair of shows at Westbury, NY’s Westbury Music Fair on June 29 as well as one-offs at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on June 30 and Poughkeepsie, NY’s MJ Nesheiwat Convention Center on July 20.

“This one is going to hit different,” Hart shared on Instagram , while describing the tour. “We’re on a different level, a different mindset.”

If you want to see what the “Ride Along” star has up his sleeve for his ‘Acting My Age Tour,’ tickets are available for all shows.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find was $16 before fees on Vivid Seats.

To be fair, that low dollar amount is a bit of an outlier (hint, hint- it’s for the Tom Brady Roast); other Kevin Hart shows have tickets starting anywhere from $55 to $389 before fees.

Hoping to find out how much seats are going for at the venue nearest you?

We’ve got everything you need to know and more about Kevin Hart’s 2024 ‘Acting My Age Tour’ below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Upcoming Kevin Hart projects

Kevin Hart can’t stop working.

On top of his upcoming tour dates, he also has eight (!) movies and TV shows set for release in the near future.

Here’s what we know about each of the future flicks.

“Planes, Trains & Automobiles”  might sound familiar. In this reimagining of the 1987 classic, Hart co-stars with Will Smith as “a pair of unlikely travel companions trying to make their destinations in time for the Holiday weekend.”

“My Own Worst Enemy”  tells the story of an agent sent on a dangerous assignment and then receives an assist from an unlikely informant. Tim Story has been tapped to direct.

“The Great Outdoors”  will see Hart star in a remake of the 1988 John Candy-Dan Aykroyd comedy where a family on vacation repeatedly gets interrupted by their irritating in-laws. Teena Lewis and Tristan Cantave are set to co-star.

“Ride Along 3”  is an extension of the popular Hart-Ice Cube franchise featuring Hart as a well-meaning high school teacher who applies to the police academy to impress the girl of his dreams (Tika Sumpter). There, he meets her tough brother (Ice Cube), who, you guessed it, takes him on a ride along to set him straight. According to  Looper , director Tim Story wants to take the ongoing series to another country in a future installment.

“Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist”  has just Hart attached now; the series will tell the story of the infamous armed robbery after Muhammad Ali’s historical comeback fight in 1970.

“Borderlands,”  based on the popular video game, takes place on the desolate, fictional planet Pandora. In this abandoned world, adventurers seek out an elusive artifact. The stacked cast features Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gina Gershon and Bobby Lee.

“Uptown Saturday Night”  centers around a pair of pals’ night out where they chill at an illegal club, come upon a lost wallet, and find a winning lottery ticket. Based on the 1974 classic featuring Sidney Poitier, Flip Wilson, Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, and Harry Belafonte. Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope,” “The Chi”) will direct from a script by Kenya Barris (“Blackish,” “Coming 2 America”).

“Monopoly,”  currently in development, finds a boy from the board game’s Baltic Avenue on a journey to make some cold, hard Monopoly cash. Tim Story will direct Hart again in a script by noted sci-fi screenwriter Andrew Niccol (“Truman Show,” “Gattaca”). Here’s hoping the movie, which has yet to enter pre-production, “gets out of jail free.”

“Die Hart 2: Die Harter” signals a return to Hart’s Amazon Prime series where he “plans an innovative action film with unscripted, unexpected scenes to cement his legacy as the greatest,” IMDb reports. Of course, high-stakes hijinks ensue. Nathalie Emmanuel, Ben Schwartz, Paula Pell and John Cena co-star.

Zurich Classic expert picks and predictions: Our PGA Pro’s best bets for 2024 TOUR Event

In this betting preview:

  • Tournament format breakdown
  • Expert picks and predictions
  • BetMGM odds to win
  • Betting trends from past winners
  • Course overview

Life on the PGA TOUR is quite funny at times. The Masters is one of the easiest 36-hole cuts to make, major championship or otherwise. Following Augusta National, 69 of the game's elite just played a guaranteed 72-hole no-cut cash grab on Hilton Head Island. Now we travel to New Orleans for the Zurich Classic.

This annual event brings together 80 teams of PGA TOUR professionals. We go from 69 guys last week in the low country to 160 guys in Louisiana! Even better, only the top 33 teams and ties will make it to the weekend to compete for $8.9 million.

If you asked me to help make sense of it all, I just can't. Chances are the schedule will just change again in 2025 when we figure out this calendar of events. Meanwhile, take this week for what it is: a unique opportunity.

We will limit our exposure and make the most of live betting. The ladies also have a fantastic event to bet, and with a Nelly WD on Monday the field suddenly has a chance. Cue the walk-up music and enjoy some of the pairings the PGA TOUR's battle in the bayou is about to get started.

It pays to Read The Line. In our newsletter last week, we featured a parlay bet that turned out perfect. We predicted Scottie and Nelly to win and the combined odds earned our readers +3100! This preview is just that: a preview. For a complete list of my betting predictions covering the Zurich Classic winners, placements, and H2H matchups, please go to Read The Line and subscribe.

Zurich Classic expert picks and predictions

Best bet to win: tom hoge and maverick mcnealy (+2500 on betmgm ).

Hoge just came away from a very strong week at the RBC Heritage. Following a Friday 64, he was the 36-hole leader. His approach game is the perfect complement to Maverick McNealy’s putter. McNealy, who finished ninth at THE PLAYERS, has played well in 2024. Together, their recent ball-striking and scoring ability makes them a great contender to take home the trophy on Sunday in New Orleans.

*BET OF THE WEEK* Taylor Moore and Matt NeSmith to finish in the top 20: (+140 on BetMGM )

NeSmith and Moore have finished fourth at the Zurich Classic in each of the past two years. Old friends, these two can make a ton of low scores together. Moore has an excellent short game and putter, while NeSmith can keep up with the best ball-strikers in the game. Chemistry counts this week, and these two have it when they play together.

Zurich Classic past winners, betting trends

The science of predicting who will win a team event on the PGA TOUR is difficult. I can narrow down the field to best birdie makers, but in the end the biggest intangible is 'do these guys have chemistry on the course?' We have witnessed it each year, starting with the first team title when Jonas Blixt and Cam Smith won. The +10000 long shots blended their skill set perfectly to take home the trophy.

Consider the annual favorites, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele. They are both great golfers, but alongside their OWGR skill is a competitive friendship. This is another reason why being on site for so many weeks matters. I see these guys interact with one another all around the facility. After three years, I can really start to tell who gets along with whom.

The better your team chemistry, the better your chances are to perform. This is exactly why Tiger Woods never had a good partner in the Ryder Cup. How hard would it be to partner with Woods and live with the fear of letting him down? Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry aren't worried about that. Our outrights will lead the field in strokes gained camaraderie.

Our outrights will also be birdie machines. The best Fourball players are aggressive scorers. That's not always the best type of player for individual events — but in this format, give me two guys who average more than four birdies per round. I want guys who:

  • lead the TOUR in opportunities gained and GIRs
  • tend to go for the par-5s in two
  • know how to putt

Look at some of the recent winners. Cam Smith has won this event twice, strong putter Billy Horschel plays well here, and of course, the aforementioned Patrick and Xander.

We have four par-5s and four par-4s under 400 yards. Those eight holes require solid scrambling skills to score. Short-game skill will lead to birdies in bunches, and that's our secret weapon: guys who build their weekly birdie average by pitching the ball and using their wedges adeptly. A little acumen from close range and you can make more sub-par scores. My last key is putting from close range. The best way to separate from the field is during Foursomes. The toughest skill in alternate shot is making the last putt.

In most cases, the guy who has to knock in that testy five-footer did not hit the approach putt or chip prior. Without any feel, you must make your short putts. We see it year after year. The best putters perform better in alternate shot. Securing those short strokes keeps the team chemistry positive and your group in contention. It sounds simple, but finding the right combination between two PGA TOUR alpha players is tough. I know these teams are tight, therefore they lead our betting card in the bayou.

Zurich Classic: TPC Louisiana breakdown

A big part of successfully betting the Zurich is understanding the format. This is not a regular 72-hole stroke play event. The 80 teams of two will compete in a Fourball (better ball of partners) format on Thursday in Round 1. On Friday, the teams switch to Foursomes (alternate shot). Those who make the cut and compete over the weekend for the first-place prize of $1.3 million (each) will play the same two formats again. Saturday is Fourball, and Sunday is Foursomes. These are the same two team formats you see in the Ryder Cup.

The team format began at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2017. Since then, the average winning score has been 22 under par. With two separate formats, it is important to note how the winners got there. The last six winners average 16 under par in the Fourball format and six under par in Foursomes. Find the right alternate shot combination and you can make some serious cash. It's tough for a long shot to win in individual stroke play. Give everyone a partner, and the elite tend to take the title. The average winning odds of the seven champion teams is +3000.

The weather this week looks entertaining for a team battle. Temperatures are forecasted in the mid-80s and the only chance of rain comes on Sunday afternoon. The wind will be another story. Keep following the local weather, but as of now it is going to be breezy in the bayou. Round 1 starts in the mid-teens, and then by Saturday we are going to see sustained winds in the 20-mph range and gusts into the 30s. Hold onto your hats, as this Pete Dye design (2004) has 106 bunkers and eight holes where water comes into play.

TPC Louisiana has been the host venue dating back to 2005. Every team edition has been played here. The par-72 layout covers 7,425 yards. For the second week in a row, we have Pete Dye's diabolical mind to contend with. The most noticeable feature of this flat setting are the bunkers. In stark contrast to one another, you will see some of the largest and smallest sand hazards on TOUR. The greens are the fifth-smallest on TOUR at an average of 5,225 sq/ft. Of course, these will look huge compared to the tiny targets at Harbour Town.

There's a fair amount of drama on this design. We have four par-4s over 470 and the average par-3 length is 215 yards! The final three holes have water in play to catch your attention — and with all of these areas to avoid, that wind prediction should play havoc on the oversized field. Good luck finishing any round on time unless they light up the 18th hole. Even though it is a tough test, team scoring pushes that cutline pretty deep. The average score to get inside the top 33 and ties is six under par.

Stewart Lee - Snowflake/Tornado

Reviews & Press... Snowflake/Tornado

Two new 60-minute sets, back to back: Tornado  questions Stew’s position in the comedy marketplace after Netflix mistakenly lists his show as ‘reports of sharks falling from the skies are on the rise again. Nobody on the Eastern Seaboard is safe’.

And Snowflake  questions Stew’s worth in a society demolishing the liberal values he has been keen to espouse in a fairy-tale landscape of winter wonder.

SNOWFLAKE/TORNADO began in 2019, before touring in 2020 – when it was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Rescheduled dates eventually completed the tour in 2022, where it finished with a week at the Royal Festival Hall on London’s Southbank in July.

The SNOWFLAKE half ran through the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe, and a recording from the York tour dates broadcast on BBC2 in September 2022.

The First Look: Zurich Classic of New Orleans

The First Look

Change Text Size

It’s time to team up.

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is the lone two-man team event on the PGA TOUR schedule and boasts plenty of the game’s best, with five of the top 15 players in the Official World Golf Ranking heading to TPC Louisiana.

This is the seventh year the tournament has been played as a team event, with each duo playing Four-ball (also known as best ball) in the first and third rounds, and Foursomes (alternate shot) for the second and fourth rounds.

With Presidents Cup pairs, Ryder Cup heroes, twins, fan favorites, college teammates, and more joining forces in NOLA it should be a special week.

This week marks the second of three events to earn points towards the Aon Swing 5 and Aon Next 10 as we inch closer to the next Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule – the Wells Fargo Championship in two weeks.

Here’s everything you need to know as the TOUR returns to New Orleans.

FIELD NOTES: Rory McIlroy will make his tournament debut alongside good pal, Ryder Cup teammate, and Irishman Shane Lowry – a duo that was firmed up during a celebratory lunch after the Ryder Cup last fall… Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele will try to reprise their 2022 win here. Cantlay and Schauffele have both the Foursomes and Four-ball scoring records at this event… Davis Riley and Nick Hardy will defend their 2023 title. No team has gone back-to-back… Three sets of brothers (and two sets of twins!) will play together with twins Rasmus and Nicolai Højgaard and Parker and Pierceson Coody in the field along with Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick . Alex Fitzpatrick and Rasmus Højgaard are sponsor invites… Billy Horschel , who won last week at the Corales Puntacana Championship, will be without his previous partner Sam Burns, as Burns and his wife are expecting their first child any day. Horschel will instead be paired with fellow University of Florida alum Tyson Alexander . Horschel has won the Zurich Classic when it was both an individual and team event… Other notable pairings include Collin Morikawa and Kurt Kitayama, Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris , and Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin. The Canadian duo finished runner-up a year ago and would like nothing more than to show Presidents Cup International Team captain Mike Weir how well they play together… Steve Stricker will play his second TOUR event this season (after earning his way into THE PLAYERS Championship), teaming up with Matt Kuchar. Stricker has four top-10s in five events on PGA TOUR Champions this season… Other sponsor exemptions include the South African pairing of Aldrich Potgieter and Thriston Lawrence . Potgieter, the winner of The Amateur Championship last year (the second youngest winner in the tournament’s history) won The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour earlier this season – the youngest winner in Korn Ferry Tour history. Lawrence, who has two runner-up finishes on the DP World Tour this season, made his 2024 TOUR debut last week at Corales (MC)… Jason Dufner and Kevin Chappell, Kevin Tway and Kelly Kraft, and Brandon Wu and James Nicholas are the other sponsor invites.

SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: The next Signature Event on the schedule is the Wells Fargo Championship… With his win at the Corales Puntacana Championship, Horschel tops the Aon Swing 5, which continues this week in New Orleans… Wesley Bryan, Tway, Charley Hoffman and Justin Lower make up the rest of the Aon Swing 5… The final event of the Aon Swing 5 prior to Quail Hollow is THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson… Justin Thomas’ T5 was his first top-10 finish on TOUR since February and in the process he moved from No. 14 to No. 6 in the Aon Next 10… Jake Knapp (No. 7) and Christiaan Bezuidenhout (No. 8) got bumped a spot. Austin Eckroat remained at No. 9 while Peter Malnati moved to No. 10. He leads No. 11 – Thomas Detry – by just 73 points… Ludvig Åberg remains on top of the Aon Next 10 followed by Matthieu Pavon . Zalatoris, Stephan Jaeger and Akshay Bhatia round out the rest of the Aon Next 10.

COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: With his fourth win in his last five TOUR starts, a three-shot triumph at the RBC Heritage, Scottie Scheffler remained atop the standings. Scheffler was the first player ranked No. 1 in the Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 to win the RBC Heritage and now leads by 2,023 points – the largest lead with 15 weeks left in the Regular season (since 2009)… Thanks to his solo second at the RBC Heritage, Theegala moved up to No. 4 in the Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10. Cantlay finished T3 at Harbour Town and rose 13 spots from No. 23 to No. 10 in the standings. Cantlay was the only new entrant into the TOUR TOP 10 after last week… Chris Kirk and Byeong Hun An are the only two to remain in the TOUR TOP 10 every week so far this season.

FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 400 FedExCup points.

72-HOLE RECORD: 258, Hardy/Riley (2023)

FOURSOMES (ALTERNATE SHOT) RECORD: 63, Hadwin/Taylor (4th round, 2023), Cantlay/Schauffele (Round 2, 2023)

FOUR-BALL (BEST BALL) RECORD: 59, Cantlay/Schauffele (1st round, 2022).

LAST TIME: Riley and Hardy each won for the first time on the PGA TOUR. They birdied four of their final six holes – highlighted by Riley’s 30-foot birdie bomb on 17 – to win by two over Hadwin and Taylor. Riley and Hardy started the final round three shots back but fired a 7-under 65 in Foursomes to end the week with a new tournament scoring record of 30-under 258. Taylor and Hadwin, who grew up playing the same course near Vancouver, tied the Foursomes record of 9-under 63 (set earlier in the week by Cantlay and Schauffele) to zip into second alone. Wyndham Clark and Beau Hossler, the 54-hole leaders, finished third, while Schauffele and Cantlay tied for fourth with Matthew NeSmith and Taylor Moore.
