Cameron’s Mackintosh’s production of Boublil and Schönberg’s  LES MISÉRABLES: THE ARENA SPECTACULAR  will embark on a World Tour this September, opening with strictly limited UK dates. As the beloved musical phenomenon enters its 40 th  revolutionary year in London, this spectacular production will have an extraordinary new design specifically created for larger venues.

The Arena Spectacular will be performing in over 15 countries and regions worldwide, including the UK, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Australia, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, with more worldwide destinations to be announced.

The World Tour will feature a cast and orchestra of over 65, with a core cast featuring a great number of celebrated Les Mis guest stars appearing as their schedules allow. Victor Hugo’s classic tale is an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. With a magnificent score of iconic songs including “I Dreamed a Dream”, “On My Own”, “Bring Him Home”, “One Day More” and more, this epic and uplifting story is undisputedly one of the world’s favourite musicals.

Exact dates, cities, venues, casting and on sale details will begin to be revealed this Autumn.

A World Tour has been announced for LES MISERABLES THE ARENA SPECTACULAR opening with European dates, including limited UK dates from September 2024.

Already booked to perform in over 15 countries worldwide including the UK, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and beyond, the World Tour will begin as the stage musical enters its 39th revolutionary year and will run throughout the upcoming 40th anniversary celebrations for the world's longest running musical in 2025. After which it is planned to play North and South America.

LES MISERABLES THE ARENA SPECTACULAR will be expanded from the hugely successful Les Misérables The Staged Concert which played for over 200 record-breaking performances in the West End. It will have an extraordinary new design specifically created for arenas (and large theatres) with audiences of between 3,000 – 5,000.  This spectacular production will have a UK company of over 110 actors, musicians and crew featuring a core cast with a great number of celebrated Les Mis guest stars appearing as their schedules allow.

Initial casting has been announced for the World Tour Les Miserables The Arena Spectacular opening in September 2024.

The World Tour kicks off at the SAE Arena Belfast on 19 September 2024 featuring a cast and orchestra of over 65.

A dream concert deserves a dream cast and I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that the first UK leg of the tour, which opens in Belfast in September and is already more than two thirds sold out, will star Alfie Boe or Killian Donnelly as Jean Valjean and Michael Ball or Bradley Jaden as Javert, heading a cast and orchestra of over 65. Many other favourite Les Misérables performers, chosen from all over the world, will be announced in a few weeks’ time. Les Misérables

Cameron Mackintosh’s  acclaimed new production of Boublil & Schönberg’s legendary musical,  Les Misérables,  premiered in Melbourne on 22 June 2014 and celebrated its final bow on 17 January 2016 in Brisbane. The award-winning Australian production celebrated an extraordinary  19 month run  with triumphant seasons in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane and closed after  588 performances .

The Australian season saw the production win numerous awards including a Green Room Award, Theatrepeople’s People Choice Award, Sydney’s Sunday Telegraph Party of the Year and was nominated for four Sydney Theatre Awards. In 2015 the production also scooped the pool at the Helpmann Awards winning in five categories including Best Musical, Best Male Actor in a Musical, Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design.

The Australian critics were unanimous in their praise for the power and spectacle of  Les Misérables , the amazing quality of the production and its outstanding cast.

Adapted by Trevor Nunn and John Caird , it has additional material by James Fenton . The 25th Anniversary Production is directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell and designed by Matt Kinley . Original costumes are by Andreane Neofitou , additional costumes by Christine Rowland , lighting design by Paule Constable and sound design by Mick Potter . Executive Producer of the Australian production is Michael Cassel .

Dates and venues for Les Misérables arena world tour announced

The show will play across the world, with a select number of UK dates

Initial dates and venues have been revealed for the world tour of Les Misérables the Arena Spectacular.

The production will have an extraordinary new design specifically created for arenas (and large theatres) with audiences of between 3,000 to 5,000. A UK company of over 110 actors, musicians and crew will feature, with guest stars appearing at various stops. It is expanded from the concert staging of the show seen in the West End, where it played across 2019. 

The long-running musical is based on the novel by Victor Hugo and features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, additional material by James Fenton and adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. It tells the tale of a former convict who tries to find salvation in revolutionary France.

The tour will open at the S S E Arena Belfast on 1 9 September 2024 , where it will play until 2 8 September 2024 . F oll o wing B elfa s t, the pr oduction will play li mited dates at Glasgow ’ s S S E Hyd ro Arena from 3 to 6   October , Sheffield ’ s Util ita Are na from 10 to 13 October and Aberdeen ’ s P & J Live Arena from 1 7 to 20 O ctober .

It will then c ommence its European leg in Luxembou rg fr om 2 5 to 27 Octo b er, f ol lowed by Geneva, Trieste, Milan , Copenhagen, Oslo and Zurich . Its final UK dates will be in Manchester at the AO Arena on 2 6 to 29 December and at the Util ita Are na, Ne wcastle from 2 to  5 January 2025 before moving o n to S w eden, Au stralia, Taiwan, Japa n and S outh Korea .

T ickets go on general sale Thursday 12 October 2023 for the UK dates and some European dates . Priority booking will be available from tomorrow. Sir Cameron Mackintosh confirms Les Mis is returning to Australia

After years of debate and discussion about the likelihood of a revival of the blockbuster musical  Les Miserables in Australia, finally fans can rest assured – it’s coming.

Sir Cameron Mackintosh appeared as a guest on the Graham Norton Podcast over the weekend and while discussing the success of Tom Hooper’s adaptation of  Les Miserables for the big screen, he expanded into the future of the stage version.

It’s in it’s 28th year and… you know… over the next 2 years I have eight new productions of Les Miserables. The NEW production of Les Miserables I did for the 25th anniversary which is doing better business than the original across America and is about to open in back on Broadway, going to Tokyo, going to Australia,  everywhere again. According to THE AGE last month, it will go to HER MAJESTY`S MELBOURNE, a deal was struck between management of HER MAJESTY`S AND CAMERON MACINTOSH , I hope it is true.

‘Les Misérables Arena Spectacular’ announces world tour starting next year

The show will be reimagined in a new version following the success of its West End concert montage. Featuring custom-made designs and a troupe of 110 actors and musicians (including stars from the musical), the production will travel all across Europe and also the UK, to later land on North and South America .

Look down, look down… And forward. Because a new dream is about to be dreamed, lived and remembered by the millions of fans this timeless musical has made in its almost 40 years of unstoppable success. Following the triumph of its staged concert, which played for over 200 record-breaking performances in the West End, today producer Cameron Mackintosh has announced the creation of a new montage, featuring extraordinary custom-made arena designs and encompassing a UK company of over 110 actors and musicians and – as well as a core troupe of Les Miz stars to make guest appearances at certain performances.

“Since the very first concert performance of Les Misérables in Sydney in January 1989, this remarkable musical has proved to be as powerful and successful in its every manifestation”, says Mackintosh. “This much anticipated world tour will be a unique opportunity for many of these celebrated performers to play their favourite roles for short periods in different parts of the world, so fans will get the chance to see their favourite stars (and mine!) in their favourite musical. The euphoria of the cast reunion performances of Les Miz are legendary and always prove a sell-out so I look forward to this unique event being the ultimate demonstration of Do You Hear The People Sing ever!”.

Delivered in association with Nick Grace Management, the show will start in Europe and will also include a limited UK run. Already booked to perform in over 15 countries worldwide including the UK, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and beyond, the World Tour will begin as the stage musical enters its 39 th  revolutionary year and will continue throughout the upcoming 40 th  anniversary celebrations for the world’s longest running musical in 2025. After which, it is planned to play both in North and South America.

Les Misérables Arena Spectacular will start performances in September 2024. Venues, locations and further details will being to be announced in Autumn. Tickets will be available on the following link .

First dates for Les Misérables – The Arena Spectacular world tour

Cameron Mackintosh has announced the initial dates and venues for Les Misérables – The Arena Spectacular – the major new world touring production based on the record-breaking Les Misérables – The Staged Concert .

Presented by Cameron Mackintosh in association with Nick Grace, the tour will launch at the SSE Arena in Belfast from 19-28 September 2024. The production will then head for Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena (3-6 October), Sheffield’s Utilita Arena (10-13 October) and Aberdeen’s P&J Live Arena (17-20 October).

The tour will then begin its European leg in Luxembourg from 25-27 October, followed by Geneva, Trieste, Milan, Copenhagen, Oslo and Zurich. Its final UK dates will be in Manchester at the AO Arena (26-29 December 2024) and at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle (2-5 January 2025) before moving on to Sweden, Australia, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

Confirming the first dates, Mackintosh said: “I’m thrilled to announce the initial venues where this spectacular production of Les Misérables will run. This much anticipated world tour will be a unique opportunity for many celebrated performers to play their favourite roles for short periods in different parts of the world, so fans will get the chance to see their favourite stars (and mine!) in their favourite musical.

“Over the show’s nearly 40 years existence, it has also proved to be the launch pad for an extraordinary list of stars around the world, in many different languages and countries. Both the show and the score of Les Mis continues to win poll after poll around the world as the public’s favourite musical of all time containing so many of the most memorable and beloved songs ever written for the musical theatre.

“The euphoria of the cast reunion performances of Miz are legendary and always prove a sell-out so I look forward to this unique event being the ultimate demonstration of Do You Hear The People Sing ever!”

The tour’s launch will coincide with the ground-breaking stage musical’s 39th year and will run throughout the 40th anniversary celebrations for the world’s longest-running musical in 2025. There are also plans for the production to follow its first world tour with dates in North and South America.

Les Misérables – The Arena Spectacular will be an expanded version of the star-studded concert version of Les Misérables which played to packed houses at the Gielgud Theatre in 2019 while the much-loved show’s original home, the Queen’s Theatre, was closed for refurbishment ahead of its reopening as the Sondheim Theatre. Les Misérables The Staged Concert eventually played over 200 performances in the West End.

The new production will feature a new design tailor-made for arenas and large theatres with audience capacity between 3,000 and 5,000. The spectacular production will have a UK company of over 110 actors, musicians and crew featuring a core cast and celebrated Les Mis alumni as guest stars.

Revealing plans for the production earlier this year, Mackintosh said: “Since the very first concert performance of Les Misérables in Sydney in January 1989, this remarkable musical has proved to be as powerful and successful in its every manifestation. Whether in its original full theatrical form, a blockbuster musical movie, or any of its numerous spectacularly staged concert performances. Over the show’s nearly 40 years existence, it has also proved to be the launch pad for an extraordinary list of stars around the world, in many different languages and countries.

“This much anticipated world tour will be a unique opportunity for many of these celebrated performers to play their favourite roles for short periods in different parts of the world, so fans will get the chance to see their favourite stars (and mine!) in their favourite musical.”

Co-producer Grace added: “I’m thrilled to be co-producing this exciting new world tour with Cameron and to have the opportunity of working on this iconic musical. I’m looking forward to taking this incredible new UK touring production all over the world, bringing it to existing Les Mis fans and those that will be experiencing the phenomenon for the first time.”

The critically acclaimed full production of Les Misérables continues to play the Sondheim Theatre. Cameron Mackintosh’s Les Misérables is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo. It has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel with additional material by James Fenton and adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Oscar-winning movie a remastered and remixed version was released in 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital in September.
