Review | Manchester United Museum & Stadium Tour! How Good is it?

Categories England , Manchester , U.K

Manchester United and Old Trafford are one of the most famous teams and stadiums in the world, so it’s pretty cool that you can really easily book and go on an Old Trafford Stadium Tour and visit the Manchester United Museum.

In fact, doing a tour of Manchester United stadium is probably even easier than you think, they literally have time slots available all day when matches are not on and the tickets are not that expensive either.

I went recently with my stepsons who are 6 & 8 and we had a great time! I realised I couldn’t move to Manchester and not visit the legendary Manchester United Stadium and even as a non-supporter (although I left feeling like a supporter), I had goosebumps throughout because of all that we saw on the Man Utd Stadium Tour.

So let me tell you how to book a Manchester United stadium tour, the Old Trafford tour price, what to expect from a Man Utd tour and answer the question ‘is a Manchester United Tour good?’

Manchester United Tour Tickets

Let’s start with how to get Manchester Utd tour tickets and how much they cost! Luckily, they are easier to get than match tickets!

I booked our tickets through Get Your Guide which is a booking platform I use a lot and trust!

Booking these tickets makes it really easy to check stadium tour availability by each day and time, they don’t charge any extra, AND you get free cancellation up to 24 hours before you book which is really helpful!

Manchester United Tour Ticket Prices:

Adult: £27.00

Child 5-15: £15.00

Child 4 & under: Free

Senior 65+: £15.00

What does the Manchester United Tour Ticket include?

The ticket gives access to the Manchester United Museum which you can visit in your own time, and it gives you a 70-minute tour of the stadium with a guide .

Souvenir wise, you are given a branded lanyard when you show your tickets where the ticket goes inside, this can be taken home with you and therefore acts as a bit of a free souvenir .

What To Expect from an Old Trafford Stadium Tour

When you book your ticket online you’ll get an email confirmation to say you must get there 30 minutes before the start time , this is something to keep in mind when planning your Manchester day out!

The reason you are asked to get there early is mainly so you have time to visit the museum before the tour starts and the time you book the tour for is the time your group guided tour starts.

If you don’t get there just on time, then you can do the guided tour and visit the museum at the end.

Manchester United Stadium Tour Parking

The only car park at Old Trafford Stadium open on non-match days is East Car Park E2 ( google maps location here ) so you have to head here. When I visited it the entrance was manned, the super friendly guys told me where to park and there are plenty of disabled access spaces.

The car park is at the front of the stadium and where the Megastore is located.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, E2 car park stadium entrance

To get to the museum and where the guided Manchester United tour starts you follow the path around to the right, following the arrow signs to the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand Entrance .

Manchester United Stadium Tour, Path to Sir Alex Ferguson Stand

Here you’ll get a security scan, queue up inside, show your online ticket and be given a paper ticket and lanyard.

Then you go upstairs towards the Man Utd Museum and by Red Cafe at Old Trafford which is a great place to go back to after the tour has finished.

Manchester United Museum

In order to get to where the Manchester Stadium tour starts you have to go through the museum. This is why you’ll get email confirmation telling you to get to the stadium 30 minutes before your ticket time because the time on your ticket is the literal time your guided tour starts you need to be at the end of the museum and meet your guide.

As we entered the museum we could choose to get a photo with a green screen background which could then be purchased at the end.

This was pretty cool as at the end of the tour in the Megastore you can see the photo and pick the different backgrounds , there was a sunset stadium background, normal stadium background and you could choose which player was next to you, of course, we had to get a photo with Ronaldo printed!

Manchester United Stadium Tour, Museum

Walking through the museum doesn’t take long but if you don’t have time or want to spend more time looking, you can return at the end of the tour as there are no time restrictions on access to Old Trafford Museum.

The museum is really interesting though and you should give yourself at least 20 minutes to look around.

Ready to check availability and book tickets? Do it here!

Manchester United Stadium Tour

Tours start every 10-15 minutes and staff will be calling your ticket time so make sure you listen out and head to the end of the museum which is downstairs. Then go to the counter and collect a multimedia device for each person which had a lanyard to go around our necks.

This is used at various points on the tour to watch a video or read more about where you are, this is especially good for visitors who do not understand English well and can’t understand what the guide is saying as the multimedia device can be set in multiple languages. Or those hard at hearing who can’t hear the guide.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, Multimedia guide

Our group was pretty big at about 20 people but it never felt too big.

Our guide introduced himself to start off the 70-minute tour and told us a bit about what to expect from the tour and the multimedia devices. We had 2 guides , one who stayed at the front and did all of the explaining and another who stayed at the back to ensure we all stayed together, both were available to chat to as we walked around the stadium from place to place.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, start of tour in stadium

To start the tour off properly we went up into the stadium , this is where the multimedia devices were really cool and this was probably their best use. Of course, the stadium was empty but with the devices, it showed what it looks like busy and it followed the stadium as we moved the device around to different parts of the stadium.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, multimedia guide showing stadium full

We went back inside and to be honest, we did spend a fair amount of time inside the stadium walking under the seats to get to another part of the stadium. Definitely keep this in mind if you have small children with you who don’t like walking much.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, walking inside stadium

We had some good photo opportunities and the first one started as we were in the corner of the stadium where the disabled seating is, this spot gives a really great corner view of the stadium and there is plenty of space to spread out and get photos with no one in the background.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, corner photo of pitch

We went back inside again and walked for a while and this is when we got to probably the best bit of the tour – the changing rooms !

It was really cool to be in a part of the stadium where usually only the players go and seeing all of the shirts in the changing rooms was definitely a highlight.

We had plenty of time in here to take photos and everyone was really good at queuing for the seats, of course, Ronaldo was a popular one, and let each other take photos. It was busy in the room with all of us in but not too bad.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, inside players changing room

We walked out the way the players would to the tunnel . This was the most interactive part of the tour because the guide got all the kids to line up in 2 lines and the parents/adults to start on the side and then we clapped them out onto the edge of the pitch.

Some of the kids on my tour were really big football fans and they loved this.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, inside players tunnel

At the end of the tunnel, we got to start right by the pitch in the corner which was the corner between the West Stand and Sir Bobby Charlton Stand and again take some photos, these photos were better because we had the grass right behind us.

Then, we walked up the side of the pitch to the dugout , we were allowed to sit on the manager’s seats which was also a very cool and unique opportunity.

I also loved seeing the pitch front on from this level and got some great photos.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, walking up side of pitch on tour

Down the side of the dugout, we walked to the media and press room , again this was another cool opportunity and we could sit at the media table and have photos taken, except this photo had to be done by somewhere working there and the photo had to be purchased .

This was the only part of the tour where we were restricted from taking a photo which I think is fair and it’s really good there were no other photo restrictions on the Old Trafford stadium tour.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, media room

After this, we headed back inside and the tour ended outside the Megastore which is also the gift shop and where you can purchase the photo that was taken on arrival to the museum.

Red Cafe at Old Trafford

After we finished the tour we headed back round to the Sir Alex Ferguson stand and went to the Red Cafe at Old Trafford.

There are 2 parts to this , there’s a cafe as you walk in selling drinks and some snack food like cakes and crisps and then there is a sit-down restaurant . This was quite busy when we got there at lunchtime in the school holidays but it’s definitely a cool way to end a memorable visit to Manchester United Stadium!

Manchester United Stadium Tour, inside Red Cafe at Old Trafford

Overall thoughts and review

I honestly really loved it, even as someone who hasn’t been into football for years I got chills and goosebumps just seeing and hearing how big this club is. I loved the museum for seeing the names of older players and the guide told us a lot about past players too, and then my stepsons loved it for seeing the names of the current players.

We started the tour at the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and went all the way around to the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand so we did see a lot including the changing rooms, tunnel, dugout and media room.

My brother who is a big football fan told me he was so jealous of me going on the Manchester United stadium tour and it made me think that many people might not realise just how easy and accessible it really is to do which is why I wanted to write this post and tell you because it’s not hard to book at all and there is a lot of availability.

The only downside I’d say is that of course, you can’t go on the pitch, which might be disappointing for some and also that there is a lot of walking between corridors and through the areas under the seats so that’s just something to keep in mind if you have difficulty walking or have young children.

I hope this review and recap has helped you decide what to expect from a Manchester United Stadium Tour, and that you should book tickets for an Old Trafford tour here!

“The heritage and history of Old Trafford is like nothing else in football – and unsurprisingly for a 75,000-seater, the noise can be deafening when Manchester United are in the mood (the last time I went was for the Manchester derby). Manchester United Stadium Tour Review & Guide

manchester united stadium tour tickets price

Welcome to Old Trafford.

As  Manchester United fans, visiting Old Trafford is always on our bucket list. That dream came during our holiday trip to the UK with an Old Trafford Stadium Tour.

How to book the Manchester United Old Trafford Stadium and Museum Tour?

An Old Trafford Stadium and Museum Tour can be easily booked from the  Manchester United Website . Unlike other stadium tours that allow walk-ins, a Manchester United Stadium Tour requires pre-booking when you purchase the tickets. You would also have access to the Museum. Thus, we recommend either arriving 30-45 minutes earlier to enjoy the Museum or visiting it after the stadium tour.

There are different tour options to choose from. We decided on a 70-minute standard Stadium Tour with an additional meal option. The cost starts from £20 for a child and £36 for an adult. Additional meals at the Red Cafe cost £7.5 and £12.5 more, respectively, for children and adults.

How to Get to Old Trafford from London?

From London to Manchester

Most fans would make their way from London to Manchester for this tour. It is possible to take a day trip to visit the Stadium and return to London. Add another day to watch a live match at the Stadium if possible.

The easiest way is to book a train ride on Avanti West Coast. The departure is from Euston train station, located a few minutes from Euston Tube. We recommend booking online to secure your ride. The train ride takes slightly over 2 hours and is usually on time. Leave on the earliest train before 8am if you are planning a day trip.

Getting to Old Trafford

Take the tram (purple line) from Picadilly with a stop at Old Trafford Picket Ground. Tickets can be bought at the station. After that, it is a 10-12 minute straight walk along Brian Statham Way.

Along this route, you would pass by Old Trafford Stadium Hotel with an impressive Manchester United Logo Wall Mural.

Look out for a tribute mural to Sir Bobby Charlton, too.

Old Trafford: Theatre of Dreams

Before you start your tour, you must savour the moment you step onto the stadium grounds. You would have recognised the silhouette from afar if you had watched enough matches.

In front of the Stadium is the Unity Trinity Stadium featuring Best, Law and Charlton. If you are a true fan, you would recognise these legends. All three have won the Ballon d'Or in the 60s.

Manchester United Stadium Tour:  Where to Start?

Head to Sir Alex Ferguson's reception desk. This is located to the right of the Stadium ( facing the Stadium from the front). Do remember to print your tickets for this tour.

Here, you will collect your free lanyards and take the lifts or escalators to the Museum on level 3. Explore the Museum and meet on level 1 of the Museum 5 minutes before the tour. Your tour guide will be waiting for you in the open space. Since this is a guided tour with fixed timing, arrive on time!

Highlights of Old Trafford Stadium Tour

We started the tour at Sir Alex Ferguson's Stand.

Directly facing us is the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. With a capacity of 74,310, Old Trafford is the 3rd largest Stadium in the UK. Clad in red, it is a sight to behold. Despite its capacity, it appears smaller than expected. This size gives the spectator an intimate experience as you are close to the football field.

Our eyes are focused on the infamous Stretford End.

The Inside of the Stadium

Next, we headed inside and passed by tributes to Sir Alex Ferguson. A true red fan would understand his contribution to Manchester United's fame and popularity.

Along the way, there were tributes to various players and the great goals scored.

Best View of the Football Field

We emerged at another corner of the Stadium.

This section has the best view of the Stadium, facing the famous Stretford End and Sir Alex Ferguson Stand with Manchester United written across the seats.

Dressing Room

It's back inside the Stadium.

On our way to the Stadium, we passed by the old tunnel that was once the entrance to the field of the old Stadium.

For this stadium tour, we were lucky and saw the actual dressing room. While it is smaller than other stadiums, the aura from it is simply awesome from a fan's perspective.

Tunnel Walk

Another highlight will be the tunnel walk. Adults will line up at the side, while kids will be in line to walk through the tunnel with stadium noises pipe in. Very cool for kids

It's a walk to the Dugout to sit in the same seats where players and coaches sit during the match!

Press Conference

It's a quick stop at the press conference. We are not allowed to take photos of ourselves, but you can opt for the in-house photographer to take one for you.

The last stop is the Megastore.

Here, you can collect your personalised certificate while picking up a souvenir. Each purchase comes with an exclusive Old Trafford Paper Bag.

If you do not have time to visit the Museum before your tour, you can still do so after it (provided you did not take the last tour).  It is a must-visit for fans.

From the massive trophy room to a room dedicated to the Munich Disaster, any true red devil would appreciate the history behind this. This is among the best Stadium Museums for its history and trophies in the UK.

You might get your hands on old match programme copies for free.

The last stop was Red Cafe, located next to the Museum. Our package comes with a meal and a choice of soft drink, tea or coffee. We highly recommend you add this to the package for the experience.

We opted for OT Burger for our meal. If you have a kid, the option will be from the Little Devil's Menu instead. Meals are in smaller portions for kids.

When you are there, check out the back of the chair. You might find your favourite player's name printed on it.

As a fan, a visit to Old Trafford is a must. While getting there may seem daunting initially, it was much easier than expected.

It would have been icing on the cake if we had caught a home match and had first-hand experience of Old Trafford's atmosphere. That may be an excuse to be back in the future!

Reviews for Old Trafford Tour

Amazing tour.

AWESOME Tour. We had Paul as our tour guide who was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. Some of the jokes might not register if English isn’t your first language, but our group was laughing throughout the tour. We got to do everything we wanted: walk through the tunnel, sit in the player/coach seats, learn about the history of the stadium. Would highly recommend this tour. Be sure to book ahead of time as we saw some walk-ups turned away when we were there.

Female friendly stadium

Very interesting stadium! Suprised about the amazing tour and all stories we heard about the team and history that has happened. But most of all I appreciated the rest rooms for ladies. This was one of the female friendliest Rest rooms I have ever seen. So thoughtful of Manchester United to have free female hygiene products available! I know what this might not be a concern for most ppl but I really appreciated this gesture. It’s not common!!!

3. National Football Museum

National Museum of football Manchester

⏰ Duration: 1.5 hours

⭐ Reviews: 4.4/5 – See all reviews here

There must be some merit in the suggestion that Manchester is the home of UK football because why else would the National Football Museum be located in the city.

If you are searching for Manchester football tours that are about the game itself as opposed to a specific team, then check out this museum .

You will find the National Football Museum in the uniquely shaped glass Urbis Building on Todd Street.

The museum is right across from the Arndale Centre and a stone’s throw away from many of the best Northern Quarter bars.

This tour to the National Football Museum includes a guided tour and your admission. Start out on the ground floor where you will get to view some of the most famous footballing trophies.

You will also get to see the original trophy won by England in 1966. Head to level 2 for the much-loved interactive penalty shootout challenge.

Up on level three there are a number of temporary exhibitions that change twice a year.

This tour lasts 90 minutes and is ideal to add to your Manchester itinerary.

If you are travelling to Manchester as a family and there are a couple of unenthusiastic group members, don’t worry even those who roll their eyes at the idea of football will love this museum.

4. City Football Academy

Want to combine a Manchester city stadium tour with a look around the impressive City football academy ?

As well as a trip to the Etihad Stadium that includes all the bits on the tour mentioned before you will be seeing where the magic is born at City.

You will be able to look around the training facilities where the first team, women’s team, development squad and academy players all train.

In particular, this tour takes you to the City Football Academy which is usually hidden behind closed doors.

From the training pitches to the Academy Stadium where the women and academy squads play you will see it all.

From the stadium you will take a buggy to the football academy and that’s all included in the price of the ticket.

There are a number of peak and off-peak times that you can book your tour for but bear in mind you might need some flexibility as it’s a working campus with team players schedules changing.

Visitors on this tour love the guides who are super knowledgeable and passionate about Manchester City.

What is also nice, especially for fans, is seeing how the club works from its grassroots to the matches held in the impressive Etihad Stadium.

5. Manchester: City Bus Tour

⭐ Reviews: 4.1/5 – See all reviews here

If you don’t have time to do a full football tour in Manchester, then this city bus tour is a great option. This 90-minute sightseeing bus tour takes you to some of the city’s top locations and attractions.

Head to the Princess Street bus stop SE to hop aboard the vibrant green open top bus. The trip actually covers Manchester and Salford Quays. It’s a hop-on hop-off bus and your ticket is valid for two days so you have plenty of time to explore everything you want to see.

There are 15 stops along the route which include the Manchester Town Hall, the National Football Museum , the Museum of Science and Industry and Manchester United Football Club.

In Salford you can also hop off at the Lowry art gallery and the Imperial War Museum. You will also be able to see Media City where ITV and BBC have their TV studios.

If you want a hassle-free way to explore Manchester’s top attractions and footballing venues, then this is a convenient option. You can hop-off at the United Stadium and book the tour mentioned above or simply look around the outside of the stadium.

I purchased this as a Birthday present for my husband who really loved it. I was very suprised at how much I enjoyed the day myself not really being into football. It was a really good day we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Dennis Irwin was a lovely down to earth bloke. The food was very good. Highly recommend this tour.
Just want to say a huge thanks to all the staff at Man Utd for putting together this amazing day! We absolutely loved it!

Beyonce, NFL and boxing help make Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a cash machine

It has become a common occurrence at Tottenham home games this season, particularly when they win. Tens of thousands of fans who have been in the south stand all afternoon stay long after the final whistle, sometimes long into the night, drinking and singing Ange Postecoglou’s name. There is an expanded concourse called ‘The Marketplace’, and an outdoor area behind it called the ‘Fan Zone’, and between them they keep fans entertained, singing and drinking together long after the rest of the ground has emptied out.

This was part of the vision when the stadium was built. Firstly that it should be a place where fans spend far more time (and money) than they ever would in the old White Hart Lane. The club know very well how much more ‘dwell time’ there is in American sports stadiums, and were determined to learn from it. This has been one of the triumphs of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, turning it into a place where fans queue up to get let in hours before kick off, rather than just darting straight into their seat with minutes to go.

These scenes are also a marker of something else, the fact that this season Spurs fans can see their values, their “Tottenham DNA” reflected in the character of the team and the manager. For too much of the stadium’s five-year lifespan — 17 months of which were lost to the pandemic — that has not been the case.

While the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been successful in so many ways, transforming the matchday experience, elevating the global profile of the club, bringing in more money through football and non-football events than anyone thought possible, it has also prompted something of a battle for the soul of Tottenham Hotspur.

This is a club which has always had a distinct feel. Its teams have been known more for their style than their substance at times. It has played on the same patch of suburban north London — excepting their enforced exile at Wembley — since 1899. The club has now been in the same hands for 23 years, which in modern football is noteworthy in itself.

The challenge Spurs have faced is to build this shining tyre, this ground of the future, the £1.2billion ($1.5bn) stadium that turns them from an aspirational club into an elite one. While retaining that imagination, that family character, that noble romance, that entrepreneurial spirit which makes them what they are.

manchester united stadium tour tickets price

The first thing to talk about here is money. That is what makes the football world go round and Tottenham have never been a club who can just rely on endless injections of it from their owners. They have had to make it for themselves. The old White Hart Lane was wonderful in many ways but trying to make money from it was like trying to get blood from a stone.

Manchester City and Arsenal moved grounds in the 2000s, Manchester United and Liverpool were expanding their stadiums, and Tottenham needed to catch up. White Hart Lane would bring in on average £1m ($1.26m) per home game, and so until Spurs left, their annual matchday revenue would be just over £40m ($51m) per year. In the last season at White Hart Lane, 2016-17, where Spurs made £45m ($57m), Arsenal and United both brought in over £100m ($126m) on matchdays.

Compared to White Hart Lane, the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a gigantic 62,000-seater ATM. Tottenham make close to £6m ($7.5m) per matchday. Over the course of a season that makes for an unbeatable number. Over the 2021-22 season, the first back after Covid-19, Spurs made £106m ($134m) in matchday revenue, second only to Manchester United. Even though their European campaign that season, such as it was, constituted three home games in the Europa Conference League. Last season’s figures are expected to be even higher when the accounts are released shortly.

To some fans this may just be numbers on a spreadsheet but in the 2020s it is likely to matter more than ever before. In years gone by, the most important determinant of whether a team would succeed was whether or not their owners were willing to pour in money, which meant that Tottenham were at a disadvantage. But in the PSR era, where financial losses are strictly limited, teams will ultimately stand or fall by their revenues. With a modern stadium that brings in more than £100m ($126m) per year in matchday revenue alone (more on non-matchdays shortly), no wonder Daniel Levy has been so publicly supportive of the rules. In the era of PSR, these guaranteed revenues are invaluable.

In terms of how the stadium generates that money, a big part of it is from food and drink. The stadium is better equipped with bars than anywhere else in the league. With fans welcome to arrive early and stay late, the club can expect to bring in roughly £1million ($1.26m) per home game in food and drink revenue. (Which may sound like a lot, but is very little compared to what they would bring in for food and drink during an NFL game at the same stadium.) A big chunk of the revenue, of course, is tickets.

There is no avoiding the fact that going to watch Tottenham is expensive. Next season, adult season ticket prices will range from £856 to £2,367. Only Arsenal have a cheapest adult season ticket which is more expensive than at Spurs, given that the cheapest season ticket at the Emirates is a remarkable £1,073. While Tottenham had kept ticket prices relatively stable in the first few years at the new stadium, that delicate balance broke last month when the club announced a six per cent uplift in season ticket prices for 2024-25 and, even more controversially, a phased reduction in senior concession season ticket prices, and a bar on new senior concession season tickets.

Spurs fans were furious. The planned tifo in the south stand for Spurs’ home game against Manchester City, which is paid for and arranged by fans, was cancelled. “I think they’ve got the pricing wrong,” says Martin Buhagiar, chair of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust. “I don’t think there is a need for the club to make the money that they generate from ticket pricing. We’ve got a hashtag at the moment, #StopExploitingLoyalty. When you look at the amount of money that clubs pay for players, and spend on wages, to have season ticket prices put up six per cent, to bring in what we think is between £3.5m and £3.8m extra revenue, it just feels like the club have got their priorities wrong.”

manchester united stadium tour tickets price

Even more unpopular than the six per cent rise was the change in concession prices. This has already prompted a ‘Save Our Seniors’ campaign from concerned Spurs fans, and when Spurs played at Craven Cottage in March there was a banner with that slogan in the away end. In the win against Luton Town on Saturday, many supporters in the ground turned their backs on the game in the 65th minute, to make their feelings known about the treatment of season-ticket holders over the age of 65.

Some fans had already been frustrated by the club’s concession policy, given that there are plenty of sections in the new stadium where there are no concession season tickets available at all. (It is not uncommon for clubs to limit the areas where concessions are available and many limit the areas more than Spurs do. The club see their new concessions policy as the only way to prevent further price increases and maintain ticket choice.)

This discussion speaks to the broader question that many have about the new ground, and what it means for the identity of the whole club. As much as they love the look of the stadium, the views, the atmosphere, the sense of being looked after, many fans still want that local family-friendly community feel, rather than simply being commoditised.

The football matches held at the stadium will only ever be a small part of the story. This season Spurs will only play 21 home games, due to their lack of European football and poor cup performances. (No one enjoyed last season but they did at least manage 24 home games.) But it does not make sense to have this special stadium sat empty and unused for 345 days per year. It needs to be filled even when Tottenham are not playing.

When Tottenham moved into their new home, it was more than a matter of simply up-sizing their bricks and mortar. It forced the club to take on a new identity. They were no longer merely a football club trying to win on the pitch. They had moved into a different world. Yes, this was still a football club, but a club that owned and operated one of London’s leading multi-purpose sports and entertainment venues.

At some other stadiums, the non-football events are run separately. Wembley is owned by the Football Association but non-football events are run by Wembley National Stadium Limited, an operating division of the FA. The London Stadium, where West Ham United are a tenant, has concerts and baseball but those are run by Stadium 185 and not by West Ham themselves. But at Tottenham, the club staff effectively run two calendars at once, one for the football teams, the other for non-football events.

So even before the stadium opened in 2019, Tottenham were working hard behind the scenes to find partners who could come and fill the stadium with their events. Central to this push was Simon Bamber, the club’s former commercial head who passed away in 2021. Bamber is credited by multiple sources as having the imagination and drive to land the partnerships that have enabled the success of the stadium.

The most important of those relationships, the one that made everything else possible, was with American football. NFL played its first London game at Wembley Stadium in 2007 and those first few years, playing one game there per season, were a huge success. But in July 2015, NFL signed a 10-year agreement with Tottenham Hotspur, to play their games in a stadium which was not even being built yet. It was a leap of faith for NFL, committing to a stadium that was always going to be smaller than Wembley, and in a less globally-known part of London. But they have been delighted with it: the stadium was given official status at the start of the season as the ‘Home of the NFL in the UK’.

manchester united stadium tour tickets price

Since opening — excepting 2020 due to Covid — the stadium has held two NFL games per year, generally in the Premier League international breaks in October As well as being huge for the global reach of the club, the games are money-spinners for the stadium too. NFL pay Tottenham a hire fee for every game, as part of the 10-year agreement. Then Tottenham will take a cut of the millions of pounds of food and drink revenue, roughly three times higher than it would be for a Spurs game. (The games last for four hours, fans can drink beer in their seats, and so people are buying food and drink throughout, rather than just before the game, during half-time, and afterwards.) Tottenham will also get a cut of the merchandise sold out of their club shop, again significantly higher than it would be for the Premier League.

Rugby union does not have the same global reach as NFL but Tottenham have a strong partnership with Saracens, hosting an annual Premiership game known as the ‘Showdown’. Again this was a partnership that Spurs had been working on since before the stadium even opened. There has also been rugby league and two huge boxing nights, with Anthony Joshua fighting Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021, and then Tyson Fury’s third bout with Derek Chisora, in December 2022.

But the stadium is for more than just sport. Perhaps the most significant development in recent years has been the use of the stadium as a concert venue, one to rival Wembley and the London Stadium for putting on the biggest artists. In 2022 it hosted two nights each of Lady Gaga and Guns N’ Roses, before at the end of last season having the biggest music event in the stadium’s history: five nights of Beyonce at the end of last season as part of her Renaissance world tour. Across the five nights, almost 240,000 fans came to watch.

This five-night run was lucrative for everyone involved. LiveNation was the UK promoter, so they sold the tickets and paid Tottenham a hire fee. (Tottenham could effectively act as an agent for the premium seats, keeping a cut of that revenue.). Tottenham would get a cut of the merchandise take and would also take all of the food and drink revenue, which would be expected to exceed £1m ($1.26m) per night. Industry estimates on how much Tottenham made from the concerts are as high as £15m ($19m) but the club say the final figure after costs was £5m ($6m).

Whatever the final figure, it is still money that other clubs would not be making after the end of their Premier League season. Last year fans protesting against Daniel Levy had a banner which said ‘ENIC DNA’ listing all of their complaints and while some of them were ‘ESL’ and ‘Expensive tickets’, the banner also included ‘NFL’ and ‘Lady Gaga’. And yet these events are crucial to boosting Tottenham’s revenues. Which, in the era of PSR, gives them an edge that other teams do not have. No wonder Spurs are about to apply to Haringey Council for the right to host more non-football events, hoping to increase the allowance from 16 to 30 per year.

manchester united stadium tour tickets price

These are still relatively early days for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Given the time lost to the pandemic, it has not even been open for five full years yet. And there is plenty more to come. The stadium still carries the name it was born with and, for all the talk about a naming-rights deal, nothing has yet been agreed. Tottenham are committed to finding the right partner but it has not been easy with the pandemic and Brexit.

It is not just about the annual fee but the length of the deal, and while US venues tend to have long-term naming-rights deals of 20 to 30 years, that is less common in the UK market. (The O2 Arena was renewed in 2017 for a 10-year term.) Ultimately, Tottenham look at their commercial revenue collectively, and believe their success in other areas reduces the need for a naming-rights deal. The fact the stadium bears the name of the club has been good for the global brand too.

Last week Tottenham received approval for the new 30-storey hotel they are building next to the stadium on the small plot of land where Park Lane meets the High Road. The plan had been approved by Haringey Council in December and it is expected to be ready in time for Euro 2028, when the stadium will host games. With its distinctive tall, thin shape, the hotel will eventually tower over the Tottenham skyline. Even that will not be the end of the development work, with Tottenham planning more developments, including residential towers, on the land that they own next to the stadium.

The local area is already dominated by the stadium, and that sense will only increase when the glistening stadium is joined by even more new developments. For local businesses, it has been a success. Alex Tryfonos, joint-owner of the famous Chick King takeaway opposite the stadium, says that he is “a lot busier” than he was with the old ground, in part because he has so many customers coming to the stadium on non-matchdays. “It’s not just a football stadium now,” he says. “It’s an events place.”

Last year Ernst & Young wrote a report on the impact the stadium has had on the local ‘tri-borough area’ of Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest. In 2019-20, 26 per cent of children in that area were living in poverty. Haringey contains wards among the five per cent most deprived wards in England. The EY report says that Tottenham made a “£344m gross value added contribution” to the tri-borough area in 2021-22, supporting 3,700 jobs. With more events and more visitors expected, that figure is projected to rise to £585m contributed in the 2026-27 season. The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation works hard in the local community and has distributed over 11,000 complimentary tickets for events.

But for some, the fact that watching Tottenham Hotspur is so expensive sits awkwardly with the economic reality of the local area. “On the one hand, the club will talk about Haringey being very deprived and the fact the club is leading on regeneration,” says Buhagiar. “And on the other hand, the prices are among the highest in Europe. The juxtaposition just doesn’t work, it just doesn’t make sense.”

This is the challenge inherent in being a local club with a global reach. Moving into the new stadium changed Tottenham’s sense of who they were. And in the eyes of many, the appointments of Jose Mourinho in 2019 and Antonio Conte in 2021 pointed to a club too attached to the feeling of now being one of the big boys. Those decisions meant that the performance of the team in the last few years — finishing sixth, seventh, fourth and eighth since the stadium opened — has not been what was expected when the stadium opened. Nor was the fact that there has been no European football this season.

When the stadium opened, the hope was that it would help Tottenham to compete on the pitch and win trophies. Certainly, it has helped bring in more money to the club, and some of the recent purchases — Cristian Romero , Richarlison , Pedro Porro , James Maddison — are bigger players than Spurs could afford in the past. But good recruitment can only get you so far. Tottenham have learned this year that to get the feel they wanted at the new stadium they had to appoint a manager who fitted with the values of the old one.

Taylor Swift fans can still snap up UK Eras Tour resale tickets despite selling out in 'record time'

Swifties have found it seriously hard to find tickets to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour - but there are ways to get your hands on an affordable seat

  • 15:45, 5 APR 2024
  • Updated 10:58, 6 APR 2024

manchester united stadium tour tickets price

Taylor Swift had undoubtedly the best year of her career, so far, in 2023. She is said to have sold more than 4.3 million tickets to her global Eras Tour, which kicked off last year, making her one of the highest-grossing touring artists , which helped establish her billionaire status. She even was named Time Magazine's Person of the Year.

Taylor, who has proven herself as the new queen of pop, has played in countless countries across the continents on her Eras Tour, playing in both North and South America, as well as stints in Europe and Asia. Luckily for British Swifties, she i s soon to make the UK her stage, playing 15 shows up and down the country from June to August.

Unfortunately, the Love Story singer-songwriter has not announced any Manchester dates, but she is playing three consecutive shows shows within about an hour's drive of Manchester. After playing Edinburgh, Taylor will make Liverpool's Anfield Stadium her new home for June 13, 14 and 15.

It's been seriously difficult for Swifties to get Eras Tour tickets. They've been selling out almost instantly, and with tickets for Liverpool Anfield first released on June 18 last year, you'd be forgiven for thinking there's no more chances.

You can keep checking AXS and Ticketmaster for official tickets, as fans are able to resell theirs if they can no longer go. But those are likely to get snapped up insanely fast.

Instead, consider resale ticket websites. Viagogo and VividSeats are selling Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets. Those websites give you the opportunity to shop at your leisure, as tickets put up for sale by fans remain there until bought.

Taylor Swift has not released any dates for Manchester but will be playing three shows at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium in June

At the time of writing, the cheapest ticket on Viagogo for her gig at Anfield on June 14 cost £338. There were around 400 when we checked, but new ones keep getting added. On VividSeats , the cheapest ticket at the time of writing was $630, which amounts to roughly £498.

With people often concerned about using resale tickets, a Viagogo spokesperson told the Express: "The European leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour has been long anticipated. We’ve not seen anything like this since The Beatles and with tickets having only just gone on sale, demand is at its peak right now.

"Viagogo is a regulated marketplace where fans have the freedom to buy and sell tickets to their favourite live events, safely and securely, backed by a guarantee. Sellers on our marketplace may list tickets at high values when demand is high, but prices can change and tend to reduce over time.

manchester united stadium tour tickets price

"We recommend Swifties wait for demand to settle and check regularly for a listing that meets their budget. Tickets for Taylor Swift’s UK dates have already sold for as low as 172 GBP on our platform. Also, tickets listed at eye-catchingly high prices rely, if ever, sell."

AXS also released a statement: "The only way to obtain a valid ticket for Taylor Swift’s shows is via the approved ticket agents. In the UK, the approved ticket agents are: Ticketmaster, AXS or directly through the venue’s website. In Ireland, the approved ticket agent is Ticketmaster. Any tickets found to be purchased via re-sale on the non-official secondary market will not be valid for entry into the concerts and will be cancelled in accordance with the terms and conditions of sale."

"Through official resale facilities, ticket resale prices are capped to help combat the inflation of ticket prices and put a stop to ticket touting. For more information on o fficial resale facilities , fans should visit the website of their approved ticket agent," they added.
