NewLife Center tours now available in person and virtually

Head shot of Toni Howard, RN and certified lactation specialist at Ascension Via Christi NewLife Center

Now, in response to the improved community condition, in-person tours for expectant parents have resumed at Ascension Via Christi NewLife Center.

"The in-person tour won't be replacing our free online virtual classes,” says Toni Howard, RN and certified lactation specialist who coordinates childbirth and new parent education at St. Joseph. “They are simply another option for expecting families to get the support they need in the time and manner that works best for them.”

The childbirth and new parent education classes, offered at no cost to participants thanks to a grant from Children's Miracle Network Hospitals at Ascension Via Christi, will continue to be offered virtually.

"We may be adding some in-person options at a later date," says Howard, who worked with the childbirth education team to quickly convert the NewLife Center's full complement of classes and groups to a virtual format at the onset of the pandemic. But for now, those classes, to which Advanced Labor Support and Limber for Labor were added during the pandemic, as well as a virtual post-delivery support group will continue in their present format.

Those classes and groups are all taught or led by a registered nurse with special training in labor and delivery, breastfeeding and newborn care, providing participants the opportunity to have real-time interaction with their instructor and each other.

"Because they are interactive, our virtual classes are extremely popular because families can participate from the comfort of their own home, wherever that may be," says Howard. "As a result, expectant parents from throughout Kansas and our Ascension hospitals across the United States are benefiting from our classes."

Breastfeeding support is offered both virtually and in one-on-one in-person visits to the Breastfeeding Clinic.

Howard says that new and expectant parents quickly embraced the virtual format, making it clear the important role childbirth education plays in relieving the expectant parents' anxiety and helping improve birth outcomes.

"Whether they deliver at one of our hospitals or elsewhere, it is important that they have the tools they need to get off to a good start," says Howard. "We feel blessed to be able to help them do that whether online or face-to-face."

Please join us as we travel to the Israel to see Old and New Testament sites and learn about and experience the Holy Land. Please Please enable JavaScript to see this field. for more information.

This trip is an amazing opportunity to visit key biblical sites across Israel, learning about and experiencing the land where Jesus walked and lived. Anyone who has been to Israel can tell you that this can be a life changing trip. Your faith will be strengthened as you get closer to the history that can feel so distant. Brett Andrews and Pat Furgerson will be leading this trip with our instructor, Dr. Mark Ziese. They will all challenge you as they engage your heart and mind during this 10 day trip.

We’ll see sites ranging from the Old City of Jerusalem to fresh digs like Magdala on the Sea of Galilee. We’ve chosen sites with clear Biblical meaning to bring life to your reading as you picture the places where Jesus met the disciples, where they came to understand who He was, and where He ultimately died for our sins and rose again, conquering death’s hold on both Him and all of us. We’ll hotel in Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee and inside the Old City of Jerusalem affording you the opportunity to experience Jerusalem in an up close and personal way.

There’s so much we could say about the trip, but what you really need to know now is that space is limited and we expect to sell out. Check your calendar and let us know what questions you have. Total trip cost are typically around $4,500. The fees paid to New Life and the tour company include a cash/check discount and most trip expenses except souvenirs, lunches, baggage fees, and meals on the airplanes. You may also want to budget for souvenirs. Please enable JavaScript to see this field. for more details or click below to pre-register. Once we receive and approve your pre-registration we’ll send you full registration instructions. Whether you come on your own, with family members, or invite a friend, we are sure you won’t come back disappointed.

I became a believer in high school, making disciples is not a new concept to me.  I’ve led small groups for years and the Lord has walked with me through several trials and dark seasons.  Going to Israel, the Lord adjusted my vision so to speak and gave me a much deeper understanding of His Word. To SEE where stories happened, to STAND where history was made, to GRASP the meanings behind parables and stories brings a whole new dynamic to my Bible reading and ultimately my walk with the Lord. More than once, when standing at a site, hearing His Word and reflecting on what was being said and taught I became overwhelmed as the Holy Spirit removed walls and barriers that I didn’t even know I had.  I am able to love the Lord deeper and I have a stronger passion for His work and His children! Since I’ve been back, each day at work I have felt a tug at my heart numerous times, as I realize I need to do things differently.  I need to seek out the lost.  I need to be more patient.  I need to care more genuinely.  Maybe most important, I need to love deeper.  Hopefully, by tweaking my actions little by little to being more like Jesus-my actions will speak louder than my words as I GO!  MAKE DISCIPLES! -Bridget Wagner

The itinerary below is “typical”. Changes to the itinerary are inevitable but we will try to see all the places listed. It is not uncommon for us to walk 4-6 miles a day. The terrain is typically easy but there are lots of steps and hills. Anyone with knee issues or other concerns should Please enable JavaScript to see this field. so we can help you make a wise decision. This trip is not recommended for anyone needing a cane or those that get winded easily. Anyone in generally good health should be just fine.

Day 1 Depart USA

Day 2  Travel day, no site stops. Arrive in Tel Aviv. Estimated arrival, late afternoon/early evening. Transfer directly to a late dinner and overnight on the Mediterranean Sea, Netanya.

Day 3  Caesarea-by-the-Sea, Mt Carmel, Megiddo Travel to Caesarea-by-the-Sea which was built as the imperial center for the Roman government. Its harbor, theater, and marbled streets signal the arrival of foreign occupation in the Heartland, and, not surprisingly, the beginning point for Christianity in the Gentile world. Visit Mt. Carmel (Muhraqa) where Elijah defeated the prophets of Baal. Travel to Megiddo and walk a site famous for its strategic position. Many battles were waged on and around this OT site. Transfer to Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

Day 4  Magdala, Capernaum, Nazareth, Mary’s Well, Church of the Annunciation Dawn comes early at Magdala, an industrial site on the edge of the Sea of Galilee. View impressive remains that illustrate the fishing industry from the time of Christ. From Magdala, travel to Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry. Visit the synagogue that stands on the site where Jesus taught. After lunch, travel to Nazareth. Visit Mary’s Well and walk through the Church of the Annunciation, a structure built over the traditional home of Jesus. Overnight in Tiberias.

Day 5  Tel Dan, Caesarea Philippi, Boat ride Experience the beauty of the far north. Leave the Sea of Galilee behind and travel to the site of Tel Dan. Here an Israelite “high place,” gate complex, and fortification walls are visible. Continue to the birthplace of Jordan River at Panias , named after the goat-god, Pan. Nearby is the site of Caesarea Philippi where Peter declared Jesus to be “the Christ.” End the day (and the year of 2021!) by sailing on the Sea of Galilee. Overnight in Tiberias.

Day 6  Qasr Yahud (Jordan River), Tell es-Sultan, Talul Abu al-Aleeq, Qumran, Wilderness of Judea overlook, Mt Olives overlook. Travel to the Jordan River and experience its water. Continue to Jericho for a visit to an Old Testament-era mound and some intertestamental-era palaces. At these places learn about the conquest of Canaan and the life and death one remembered as the “King of the Jews.” Drive to Qumran , the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Climb through the Wilderness of Judea and if time permits, stop for a view. Conclude this day with an overlook to the city of Jerusalem from the top of the Mount of Olives . Arrive in your Jerusalem hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 Herodium, Shepherds Field, Church of the Nativity Begin this day with a short drive to Bethlehem. Visit the Herodium , the man-made mountain castle of Herod the Great. Travel a short distance to the Shepherds’ Field where the Good News was first heard. Follow the tracks of the shepherds to Bethlehem to the place where the Christian story begins: the Church of the Nativity . Return to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Day 8  Dominus Flevit, Garden of Gethsemane, Via Dolorosa, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, tattoos Start this day with a walk down the Mount of Olives. Visit Dominus Flevit and remember how Jesus wept over the city. Continue to the Garden of Gethsemane , the area where Jesus was arrested and the events of “the Passion” began. Enter the Old City of Jerusalem on foot via St. Stephen’s Gate and experience the path of the Via Dolorosa. Along the way, visit the Pool of Bethesda and the Church of St Anne. Our walk this day will culminate at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Here, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus are celebrated. “Tattoo evening” at Razzouk’s. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 9  Tower of David, Cardo, Western Wall, Davidson Center, City of David Excavations, Pool of Siloam Begin today at the Tower of David , a tower from King Herod’s first century palace. Visit Jerusalem’s Cardo and the Broad Wall on the way to the Western Wall . Contemplate how Jerusalem figures into the lives of contemporary Muslims and Jews. Walk Jerusalem’s streets to investigate excavations at the Davidson Center. Here, aspects of Temple architecture and activity from the NT period are visible. Step back still deeper in time while exploring the City of David Excavations. Go underground and witness Jerusalem’s earliest remains, including the possible site of David’s palace and a spectacular water system (conditions permitting) that terminates in the Pool of Siloam. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 10  Traditional “Mt Zion,” Upper Room, Domition Abby, St Peter in Gallicantu, Free time. Start this morning at the Zion Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City. Continue to the traditional Mt Zion where several traditional sites are located. Visit the “Upper Room,” a possible location of a Byzantine church that marked the place where Jesus met with his disciples. Visit the Benedictine Church of the Dormition , and the area associated with Tomb of David. Continue south to another Jerusalem landmark, St Peter in Gallicantu , believed by some to be the location of the House of Caiaphas, the High Priest. In the afternoon enjoy some free time for shopping, coffee, and wandering in the Old City. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 11  Israel Museum, Shrine of the Book Begin this final day of touring at the Israel Museum. Here, discover an enormous model of NT Jerusalem . Linger in the Shrine of the Book and witness some of the most important manuscripts of the Bible. After lunch, return to the hotel for rest, clean up, and final packing. After dinner, transfer to Tel-Aviv Airport and Depart for USA.

Day 12  Arrive in USA

Will it be safe? Absolutely. Now that we’ve surprised you with that answer in my research going to NYC for a week is MUCH more dangerous than spending a week in the Holy Land. As with all international travel there is some risk but it’s in nobody’s interest for tourists to be harmed in Israel or Palestine. If you follow the recommendations of our guide, you’ll be just fine. I (Pat Furgerson) have been multiple times and have never felt unsafe.

How will we get around? We will travel by air-conditioned motorcoach. While there’s not bathroom on the bus, there is typically WiFi!

What will the weather be? Sunny! For June trips the average temperature in Jerusalem is a high of 81 degrees and a low of 64. We do recommend drinking lots of water and there will be plenty of shade. For December trips the temperatures are more brisk with a. high of about 68 and low of 52. Keep in mind that we will be in other areas as well that may be warmer or colder.

Am I physically able to do everything on this trip? Here’s the best way I can answer this, 70-something dad did very well on this trip. He is pretty healthy but would also admit he’s not a Spring chicken. As mentioned above, there is a LOT of walking, often on uneven ground. If you require a cane for walking, please talk to us before signing up.

What should I wear? Out of respect for the people and the churches we will be visiting, we recommend light weight long pants for summer trips with shirts that cover shoulders. If ladies prefer skirts, they should cover your knees. T-shirts are just fine, tank tops are not recommended. Due to the sun, consider wearing light colors – whites and tans, etc. We’ll do a fair amount of walking (but not excessive), so wear comfortable shoes. For winter trips especially we recommend layers including a light jacket. While you may get warm while we are walking you may be chilly when we stop to talk so layers are your friend.

Can I travel alone? Of course! The trip is booked for two or more people to a room, so there’s a slight upcharge if you want your own room. Otherwise we will match you with someone we think you’ll get along with.

Will I have wi-fi and cell service? Yes to both, but check with your cell phone carrier about your international coverage.

What about health, vaccinations, and medicine during my trip? Israel is a modern country with excellent healthcare and has the world’s highest number of doctors per capita. No vaccinations are required. You can find most standard over-the-counter drugs in Israel that are equivalent to the ones you find in the United States. You can also bring supplies of your prescription drugs with you (If you need to bring syringes and vials of medicine, bring along a letter from your doctor attesting to your needs).

Will I need a Passport? Yes, you will need a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date you are departing the country.

Will I need a Visa? No, Visas are not required for anyone traveling to Israel for 90 days or less.

What costs aren’t covered? The trip covers breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Lunch will typically be on the road and cost about $15 per day. While basic tips are already included, you may also wish to tip our Tour Guide.

Anne Kyle: 'People want to know what life actually is like here’

Specializing in gastronomy-themed tours, Arigato Travel, founded and directed by Anne Kyle, was once a one-woman operation. Today, it counts more than 100 employees.

Anne Kyle , 46, is the founder and CEO of Arigato Travel, which specializes in gastronomy-themed tours and customized travel curation focusing on cultural experiences around Japan. Growing from a one-woman operation in 2016 to a team that now numbers more than 100, Arigato Travel has been recognized by CNN Travel as one of Japan’s “most authentic experience” companies.

2. Did you begin leading food tours right away? No, I started out teaching English and then transitioned into selling beauty products to Filipinos living in Japan. I had always been entrepreneurial, even as a child, so launching a business was a natural progression for me. I also loved traveling and being exposed to new people, cultures and foods, so after I joined a market tour and cooking class while on a trip to France, I had the idea to merge all of these interests by starting my own cooking school for tourists in Azabu-Juban. These were the roots of Arigato Travel.

3. Did you launch the business on your own? I hired Japanese chefs to teach the classes, while I began leading food tours in Tokyo a few months later. My then-boyfriend (now husband) was also on board. He demanded to see a business plan, so I told him to find the money and I would take care of the rest! He’s the operations guy, while I handle the ideas. He ended up getting a loan from his boss; I knew the timing was right, and indeed everything worked out to plan.

4. And how did you branch out from Tokyo to other cities? Our dream was to expand to different regions, but after about six months we realized that it would be impossible to scale the company by opening kitchens in other cities — so we decided to shift business models by focusing exclusively on food tours rather than cooking lessons. We first branched out to Osaka, where we recruited tour guides without ourselves even yet being familiar with the local food scene. It was a risky thing to do, but it worked out because there were people who believed in us and our vision. Initially, we wanted to offer food tours in all 47 prefectures, but we ended up deciding to focus on a select few locations: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Nagoya and around Mount Fuji.

5. What are some of your top Tokyo neighborhoods for food-related experiences? I love Azabu-Juban, where we first started the business. People think of it as being a trendy expat neighborhood, but in fact it is very historical. Many samurai once lived there, and it is a great place to find traditional Japanese foods at shops that have been in the neighborhood for multiple generations; plus more modern places like a fabulous cheese store. I also love Shinbashi, you can have super authentic experiences there drinking with local office workers.

6. What are some of your favorite food regions outside the capital? I love the tiny but flavorful shirasu (whitebait) and sakura ebi (pink shrimp) you can get in Shizuoka; they’re tiny but so flavorful. I also love the hōtō nabe from Yamanashi, and anything from Hokkaido, such as the thick stews.

7. Do you plan to expand the locations and themes of your tours? Yes, we would like to begin offering tours in locations including Yamagata and Sendai. We are particularly interested in focusing on places like family-run sake breweries and small-scale artisans, in addition to just food. Because the tourist infrastructure in many places is not ready yet, though, running these tours requires a balancing act between wanting to offer authentic experiences in places with interesting stories to tell; while also considering how to provide appropriate services for foreign visitors.

8. What types of stories would you be interested in featuring? Our network includes places like tea farmers and indigo dyers in Shizuoka with more than 200 years of history, for example. Many of these types of artisans want to preserve their craft but often don’t have anyone to carry on the family lineage, so the traditions are dying. In the Philippines, there is often a rush to expand and monetize aspects of traditional culture rather than protecting them. So my eyes really opened after meeting these types of artisans here in Japan.

9. You have an impressively large team. How do you find your tour guides and other associates? It’s a combination of advertising and referrals, but mostly it’s about attracting people with like-minded energy. I actually think that one aspect of our special sauce lies in having so many women, who represent such an untapped resource. I’ve always believed in supporting women, and I try to hire single mothers whenever I can. I’d say that women represent about 80% of our company.

10. Arigato Travel has achieved immense success. Did you have a supportive community along the way? Yes, we’ve received so much support from people who believed in us. At the same time, though, even as I was encountering many passionate people doing meaningful work in the travel and tourism community, there didn’t seem to be an easy mechanism for networking — so I decided to create one myself. I launched a Facebook group during the pandemic, and it’s been a wonderful way for people to support each other and share ideas.

When it comes to living in Japan, Anne Kyle says she appreciates how safe Japan is and how stable the education and health care systems are.

11. So your whole ethos seems to be about supporting people, is that right? Absolutely. I wanted to take some of the bumps I’ve encountered along the way, and use them to help others who might be interested in starting their own tourism-related business. And because of my own economically tough upbringing, it’s personally meaningful for me to use the means I’ve achieved in order to give back to others.

12. What were some of those bumps? As a foreign woman giving Japan-related tours, I often had to prove my authenticity. Another issue was that we operated the business out of our home, and although this is now normal, it was pretty much unheard of prior to the pandemic. Some travel agencies, restaurants and hotels didn’t take the business seriously; so we ended up going around them and working with foreign companies connected to Japan, instead. I’d say that this foreign mindset, combined with local experience, ended up contributing to the company’s success but it was not always easy.

13. What advice would you offer? I think that sticking to timelines is key to success. It’s the difference between an idea turning into reality, or not. In my own case, I set a goal of moving to Japan by age 19 and opening my first business here by age 30, and staying closely focused on that helped me achieve those goals. Similarly, I aimed to launch my food tours within three months, expand to Kansai in six months, and assemble a team in a year; and I stuck to that plan. I’d also tell people to focus in on potential opportunities. Prior to starting the business, I would often help lost tourists find their way before eventually conceptualizing the idea of turning this action into a monetizable business model.

14. Besides Japanese cuisine, what other types of foods are your favorite? I love the aromas and flavors of Thai food, and the healthiness of Mediterranean cuisines like Greek and Italian. And I am equally drawn toward Michelin-starred restaurants and hole-in-the-wall joints. Food does not have to be expensive in order to be good quality. At home, I love having things like pasta and nabe, which are hearty meals that you can personalize based on the seasons, and whatever ingredients you’ve got on hand.

15. You have two children. How do you juggle family life with running a successful business? I’d say trying to maintain a strict sleep schedule is key. I normally wake up by 5 a.m. each day, since I find that having an early start gives me good momentum. My mind is like clear water when I wake up around that time.

16. Are your kids foodies? My son? Definitely. He is very tuned in to things like the freshness of foods such as strawberries, tomatoes and salmon, and I love exposing him to different food traditions. With my daughter, I am not so sure yet. She definitely has a sweet tooth, that is for sure.

17. Besides the great eats, what else do you love about living and working in Tokyo? Of course, I love the peace of mind from the safety here, and the stable systems of education and health care. When you’re raising children, these things are priceless. Tokyo is also an optimal place to run a business, since everything here runs on efficiency. I cannot imagine doing this work in a place with unstable systems of public transportation, for example.

18. Where’s another place (anywhere in the world) you’d love to try living? I think I’d love to live along the Amalfi Coast in Italy, or maybe in Croatia. The history and culture in those regions is so rich. Growing up in poverty myself, I used to watch movies from other regions around the world to get inspiration, so when I was actually able to visit these places as an adult, the feeling was exhilarating.

19. What is in the works for Arigato Travel’s future? In addition to expanding from exclusively gastronomical tours into cultural ones, and growing our regional tour area, we are also working on building a travel app to benefit global tour operators. This will involve identifying problems and needs, and then finding appropriate solutions. We are also obtaining a license to become a full-scale travel company, which will require expanding our team and operations. In doing so, we will continue to focus on growing our company organically, while cultivating relationships of trust with the people in our networks.

20. What would you say is the most fulfilling aspect of running your business? I think that food is actually a gateway into deeper aspects of a culture. People love the cuisine in Japan, but beyond this what they really want is to know more about what life is actually like here. I feel very honored to be able to share this, and I have also seen our tours actually change peoples’ lives. An Italian woman who booked several of our tours in different cities ended up moving here, and later marrying a Japanese man. And in another case, a 14-year-old boy who went on some of our tours later came back to study at Temple University. Travel is incredibly transformative, and helps fulfill peoples’ dreams — my own included. So I don’t at all take for granted the opportunity to be a part of someone else’s journey.

Howard Jones

A new wave one-stop shop will tour North America this summer when Howard Jones and ABC will be hitting stages across North America with special guest Haircut 100. The full itinerary appears below.

“I’m very excited to be hitting the road with my friends ABC and Haircut 100,” Jones enthused. “Our audiences can look forward to some seriously top tunes night after night!  Bring your celebratory selves to the party.”

Popular on Variety

Of course, the evening will play out like an evening filled with hits from the early days of MTV, when the so-called “Second British Invasion” dominated the channel. Jones’ hits “New Song” and “What Is Love,” and “Things Can Only Get Better” probably segued into or out of ABC’s “Look of Love,” “Poison Arrow” and “Be Near Me” and Haircut 100’s “Love Plus One” and “Fantastic Day.”

All three acts have gone on to other successes, but this tour brings together the songs and sounds that first brought them to fame.

Anne Hathaway recalls feeling ‘chronically stressed’ as a young woman, taking life ‘for granted’

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Anne Hathaway is looking back on her younger “chronically stressed” self with grace.

The “Devil Wears Prada” actress, 41, opened up about experiencing constant stress as a younger actress and taking life for granted.

“As a formerly chronically stressed young woman, I just remember thinking one day, ‘You are taking this for granted. You are taking your life for granted,’” she explained in the debut episode of New York Magazine’s “The Interview” podcast .

“‘You have no idea. Something could fall through the sky, and that would be lights out.’ So when I find the old instincts rising, I just tell myself, ‘You are not going to die stressed.'”

The “Princess Diaries” actress didn’t have an answer for why she was so stressed, but said she “didn’t know how to breathe yet.”

“That was really complicated,” she shared. “It’s actually too big an answer and the simple answer is literally everything. I was very in my head about a lot of things.”

In addition to trouble breathing, Hathaway also chatted about not being comfortable in her body, which she identifies as a somatic experience.

“It feels a little too exposed to discuss the alienation I felt from my body, but there was a lot of somatic stress there,” she said.

The “Les Misérables” star said has faced some uncomfortable experiences when she was just getting her start as an actress.

Earlier this month, Hathaway told V Magazine she was previously asked to kiss 10 men for a chemistry test.

“I was told, ‘We have 10 guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’” she recalled.

“And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ Because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross,” she said.

While she wasn’t interested in doing the task, she said she went along with the test because she didn’t want to be labeled “difficult.”

“It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me,” the Oscar winner expressed. “It was just a very different time and now we know better.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Heart — the pioneering band that melds Nancy Wilson’s shredding guitar with her sister Ann’s powerhouse vocals — is hitting the road this spring and fall for a world tour that Nancy Wilson describes as “the full-on rocker size.”

“I’ve been strengthening. I’ve got my trainer,” she says. “You go one day at a time and you strengthen one workout session at a time. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the only job I know how to do.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers who gave us classic tracks like “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You” and “Alone” will be playing all the hits, some tracks from of their solo albums — like Ann Wilson’s “Miss One and Only” and Nancy Wilson’s “Love Mistake” — and a new song called “Roll the Dice.”

“I like to say we have really good problems because the problem we have is to choose between a bunch of different, really cool songs that people love already,” says Nancy Wilson.

Like “Barracuda,” a sonic burst which first appeared on the band’s second album, “Little Queen” and is one of the band’s most memorable songs.

“You can’t mess with ‘Barracuda.’ It’s just the way it is. It is great. You get on the horse and you ride. It’s a galloping steed of a ride to go on. And for everybody, including the band.”

The tour kicks off Saturday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, and will hit cities including Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, as well as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. International dates include stops in London, Oslo, Berlin, Stockholm, Montreal and Glasgow.

The band’s Royal Flush Tour will have Cheap Trick as the opening act for many stops, but Def Leppard and Journey will join for three stadium dates in Cleveland, Toronto and Boston this summer.

Ann and Nancy Wilson will be filled out by Ryan Wariner (lead and rhythm guitar), Ryan Waters (guitars), Paul Moak (guitars, keyboards and backing vocals), Tony Lucido (bass and backing vocals) and Sean T. Lane (drums).

The tour is the first in several years for Heart, which was rocked by a body blow in 2016 when Ann Wilson’s husband was arrested for assaulting Nancy’s 16-year-old twin sons. Nancy Wilson says that’s all in the past.

“We can take any kind of turbulence, me and Ann, and we’ve always been OK together,” she says. “We’re still steering the ship and happy to do it together. So we’re tight.”

The new tour will take them to Canada, which was warm to the band when they were starting out as what Nancy Wilson calls “a couple of chicks from Seattle.” She recalls Vancouver embracing Heart, and touring in one van across Canada in the dead of winter on two lane highways.

The Wilson sisters broke rock’s glass ceiling in the ‘70s and Nancy Wilson says they only had male influences to look to, like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Moody Blues.

Now she says she looks out and loves seeing generations of female rockers. “You have boygenius and you have Billie Eilish and you have Olivia Rodrigo and so many amazing women — Maggie Rogers and Sheryl Crow, who calls us her big influence. And then Billie Eilish might have Sheryl Crow as her influence. So it’s a really nice legacy to pass along. I like to say we’re the OG — the original gangsters — of women and rock.”

Heart has made it into the Rock Hall, won Grammys, sold millions of albums and rocked hundreds of thousands of fans but Nancy Wilson has one place she’d still like to shine.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of their debut album, “Dreamboat Annie,” which was the same year that “Saturday Night Live” started. “So we’re actually kind of putting it out there — Heart never played on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ But what about the 50th birthday party with Heart?”

Irkutsk to Krasnoyarsk: The road between two of Siberia’s most thriving cities

new life tours

The Paris of Siberia

Originally established as a trading center, Irkutsk was founded over 350 years ago. Today, the wealth that once poured into the city is evident in the many historic wooden houses featuring elaborate woodwork and window trim. Once referred to as the “Paris of Siberia,” Irkutsk has traditionally served as Siberia’s cultural, economic and intellectual capital.

new life tours

Don’t leave the city before visiting the Znamensky Monastery or the Bogoyavlensky Cathedral , which were both originally destroyed by fires during Irkutsk’s early days. The monastery, completed in 1772, features a small cemetery where notable locals are buried. The cathedral features a jumble of onion domes and towers that have long made it one of Siberia’s most iconic buildings.

The Hotel Victoria is a good option with rooms starting at $100 a night including breakfast and parking.

new life tours

After exploring the southern coast of Lake Baikal on your drive along the Trans-Siberian Highway, you can visit the lake’s western coast as a day trip from Irkutsk.

Hop on a ferry run by the Eastern-Siberian Inland Navigation Company, also known by its Cyrillic acronym, VSRP . The ferry company offers package tours and ferry service to numerous towns on Lake Baikal.

If you just want to get out on the water for a few hours, VSRP runs a historic tour along the Angara River (about $10, 1 hour) that includes an audio guide. You can also book a tour to beautiful Peschanaya Bay (about $50, 10 hours, Fridays and Sundays only), or the quaint lakeside village of Bolshie Koty (about $26, 4-10 hours depending on the boat).

You can also buy a ferry ticket at VSRP to many Baikal towns. Bolshie Koty (about $13, 1.5 hours from Irkutsk) is one of the most tranquil locations on the lake. Ferries run to the village three times a day from Irkutsk except for Mondays and select weekdays during the summer. Check the ferry schedule before planning your trip.

new life tours

To get back on the road from Hotel Victoria, drive south on ul. Karla Marksa and take a right on ul. Lenina. Turn left on ul. Chkalova and bear right toward the Angarsky Bridge. On the other side of the bridge, get on the M-55 Federal Highway.

Outside Irkutsk the route number on the Trans-Siberian Highway changes to M-53, which will take you to the city of Krasnoyarsk (14 hours, 1,000 kilometers). The long drive to Krasnoyarsk consists of tall hills and farmland. Like the drive through the Russian Far East, you can park your car by the road and camp, although it’s best to ask for permission if you see a house nearby.

Siberia is a land of rivers, and the city of Bratsk (9 hours, 600 kilometers north of Irkutsk) is home to the Bratsk Dam , once the world’s largest hydroelectric power station.

The Bratsk Dam can be visited independently, but you’ll see far more with a tour. Contact Taiga Tours in Bratsk to arrange a visit to the Bratsk Dam.

During summer different varieties of wildflowers grow on the M-53. The flowers overtake entire fields that appear in the distance like purple or yellow lakes. Locals often pull over to pick wild berries and mushrooms, or appear in the meadows leading flocks of sheep to graze in the countryside. This is a great area to witness the pastoral life described in classic Russian novels; you’ll find that rural traditions are alive and well in the villages on the road to Krasnoyarsk.

new life tours

Upon reaching Krasnoyarsk, you can drive south away from the Trans-Siberian Highway into the Tuva Republic, home to the Tuva people , practicing Buddhists who trace their ethnic and cultural roots to the Turkic and Mongolian peoples. Most famous for their throat singers , Tuva can be a fascinating, albeit long, side trip that is recommended if you have time.

Taylor Swift shocker: New album, "The Tortured Poets Department," is actually a double album

By Alex Sundby , Brian Dakss

Updated on: April 19, 2024 / 10:28 PM EDT / CBS News

Anticipation was growing at a fever pitch before Taylor Swift's latest album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," dropped at midnight EDT. But the pop superstar had a huge surprise on tap: It's actually a double album.

When Part One dropped, Swift wrote on Instagram , "All's fair in love and poetry... New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out now 🤍"

Then came the shocker, revealed in an Instagram post saying , "It's a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️ I'd written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here's the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn't mine anymore… it's all yours. 🤍."

What's Taylor Swift's new album about?

Swift described the album as "new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure."

She also said that time has been "closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted."

"Entertainment Tonight" correspondent Denny Directo called the record some of her most vulnerable work.

"Fans were left with more questions than there were answers, so good luck trying to decipher who these songs are about, what they mean," Directo told CBS News. "… I feel like there's more heartbreak songs on this than there are love songs."

Hours ahead of the record's release, Swift said on social media that its first single was "Fortnight," featuring Post Malone, and its music video was released Friday night .

Swift praised the Grammy-nominated artist's musical experimentation and melodies "that just stick in your head forever."

"I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight," Swift said in her post .

"Fortnight" isn't the only track on the album on which Swift worked with another artist. Florence and The Machine is also featured.

What's on "The Tortured Poets Department" tracklist?

Swift posted an initial tracklist to social media in February one day after she announced the album at  the Grammys , where she won for best pop vocal album. Here's the list of all 31 songs:

  • "Fortnight"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department"
  • "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys"
  • "So Long, London"
  • "But Daddy I Love Him"
  • "Fresh Out the Slammer"
  • "Florida!!!"
  • "Guilty as Sin?"
  • "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"
  • "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)"
  • "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart"
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
  • "The Alchemy"
  • "Clara Bow"
  • "The Black Dog"

  • "The Prophecy"
  • "Cassandra"
  • "The Bolter"
