vegetarian food tours in Paris from Paris by Mouth

You probably already know that we’ve been organizing the  most popular food and wine tours in Paris for more than a decade. But did you know that half our food tours are vegetarian?

VEGETARIAN FOOD TOURS IN PARIS

Our food and wine tours in the   South Marais  and  Left Bank  include visits to bakeries and dive deeps into French cheese. They include chocolate and plenty of wine. For these tours, we add some extra decadent pâtisserie and skip the charcuterie that features on our Saint-Germain and North Marais tours. Visit our Food & Wine Tours page for more information.

OUR DEEP DIVE INTO FRENCH CHEESE

Our  French Cheese Explosion  is for fromage fanatics, and includes a visit to a cheese shop followed by a seated tasting and deep dive discussion of around 10 different cheeses, representing a wide variety of French regions and cheesemaking styles. Wine and bread will accompany our selection. Cheese is included on all our tours, but the French Cheese Explosion presents double the amount of cheese and three times the amount of cheese-geeky explanation. Visit our Food & Wine Tours page for details.

Awards

On our Secret Food Tour: Vegetarian - Le Marais Paris, you'll enjoy a variety of classic French foods.

Our tour starts at the bustling heart of Le Marais, and more specifically at Temple metro stop. We will visit the old streets of the area, go to one of the oldest markets in Paris, enjoy many local shops and sit at typical restaurants to enjoy local food. We will finish near the famous rue de Rivoli, one of the main streets of the city. We will go through beautiful streets, pass by many "Hôtel Particuliers" and amazing boutique shops. You will realise how the locals live in this part of Paris and how the city's history has influenced its gastronomy.

All the food will be served with quality wines or, if you prefer, non-alcoholic beverages. A thoughtfully curated Upgraded Drink Package is available.

Due to the nature of creating a well balanced and thoughtful gastronomy experience, many of our tours are unable to accommodate certain dietary restrictions. Please contact us prior to booking your tour to see if we are able to accommodate your dietary needs.

  • After meeting with the guide at Temple station, you will first have an introduction concerning the area
  • You will then have a taste of a French coffee complemented with a croissant in a typical Parisian café.
  • Go to a local bakery to collect some amazing French baguette
  • Some tiny streets later, you will have the chance to taste and see the diversity of gastronomy in the local Marché des Enfants Rouges, where you will get to try very tasty French cheeses and some white wine.
  • You will also get the chance to taste a local organic fruit of season.
  • You will go through the streets of Le Marais, full of magnificent "Hôtels Particuliers".
  • Enjoy a vegetarian quiche (vegetables/cheese or fish/veggies depending upon availability) served with a fresh salad to share
  • Get into the South Marais and visit the Jewish district with its picturesque atmosphere.
  • Finally, go an amazing macaron & chocolate shop where quality rhymes with refined.
  • All tour along, your guide will teach you some great knowledge about both the history and the gastronomy to enhance the whole experience
  • As with all our tours, there's our delicious Secret Dish.

* Please note: the itinerary and menu is subject to change, based on the locations' availability, weather, and other circumstances.

If a tour is fully booked, or you are looking to book a *Group or Private Tour - please email us about Group & Private Tours options.

*Please note - Group & Private Tours are specifically organised for your group and therefore subject to a premium price.

We chose Le Marais district for our Paris food tour because... you can't go to Paris and skip the Marais area!

Here, you will feel a specific atmosphere and enjoy the beauty of the medieval Paris. Le Marais hosts many outstanding buildings of historic and architectural importance.

This tour will start in north of le Marais and we will end near Saint Paul metro station. That way, you will see two different parts of this beautiful district: The quiet one and the busiest one!

At the end of the tour, feel free to have a walk around to see all the numerous fashion boutiques, trendy shops, wine shops and art galleries and museums.

I can't say enough positive things about this vegan tour, which I was lucky to stumble upon as I perused Meetup.com before my business trip to Paris. Thomas was a great guide and was very communicative about the tour/details before the day of the Walkabout. He was also very personable and fun to interact with during the tour. We did so much in a 3.5 hour period. We all met outside of a train stop and walked over to a local bakery where we had delicious vegan croissants and matcha lattes. He walked us around the neighborhood where we saw a lot of artsy murals and a building filled with plants on one side. We then stopped at a vegan grocery store (filled to the brim with vegan products) where we had vegan cheese and bread with vegan pate (I ended up buying some delicious vegan cheese for later). He showed us other vegan restaurants around the area and took us through an open air market where a vegan stall was located. Close to lunchtime we went to a vegan pizza shop, which was surprisingly good. After some good conversation it was time to head to our last stop, a vegan cosmetics store. But alas, all good things must come to an end and that was the end of the tour. It was a great experience. I'd highly recommend this vegan tour to everyone, even non-vegans (we had a few non-vegans on the tour). I wish this existed in all cities. PS- Thanks, Thomas, for the tips on places to run! All the food we tried was delicious and very filling, and it was great to visit local independent stores and see their specialities. Thomas is a fantastic guide and shared lots of good advice and stories about the areas we were visiting. Brilliant! Read more Written February 1, 2019
  • Payal L 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Vegan food places to discover with Thomas I had booked a tour with Thomas for the Delicious East tour and being a pastry student in Paris, I was really excited to try new places :D Thomas is really friendly and easy going and makes you feel at ease at once. He is knowledgable about the places in Paris and after finishing the tour, you feel like you have made a really good friend ! :) He took me and 2 others to four vegan places, one pastry shop, one cafe, a cheese boutique and a fashion boutique that only sells vegan merchandise. It was all within walking distance and the tour got over really quickly within 3 hours which flew by :/ I wish we had a whole day :D You have to do this tour even if you are not vegan, but you are a foodie to discover a new cuisine with Thomas! Please do this walkabout in other cities too Thomas :) Read more Written January 30, 2019
  • jing05 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles The Delicious East - worth it Thomas was very friendly from the get go so it made the whole experience feel relaxed. He was knowledgeable and knew exactly where we were going. It was a nice mixture of food and other vegan products. Would recommend doing the tour at the beginning of your Paris trip so you have time to go back to each place - especially the vegan cheese place. So many good cheese options, perfect for a picnic. Definitely had my favourite vegan dessert on this trip! This tour was also a great way to make friends :) Read more Written November 11, 2018
  • William S 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Bill et Jason en Paris Thomas was a wonderful host, walking us throughout Paris and introducing us to delicious cafes and a fabulous vegan clothing shop. He is a friendly guy who really made us feel at home. This tour is well worth the cost and we will meet up with him the next time we visit. Merci beaucoup Thomas! Read more Written October 20, 2018

  • Maria C 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Vegan in Paris! This tour was a great component of the exploration of vegan food that my husband and I did in Paris. Our guide Thomas was very friendly and easy to talk to, and we got to taste a nice selection of vegan breakfast foods, cheeses, and pastries, see a beautiful market, and shop for vegan clothing. Thomas also provided us with a nice list of restaurants where we could eat vegan meals. We would highly recommend this tour to people looking to eat vegan in a city that one wouldn’t assume has many vegan options. Read more Written September 22, 2018
  • Mira D 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles My favorite part of Paris! I love vegan food and was excited to try a vegan food tour around Paris to see what options they have. I am so glad I went with the Vegan Culinary Tours of Paris! Our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to give us great recommendations of different locations for after the tour. I would highly recommend anyone that is vegan or a vegan food lover to use this tour. I felt that the price was reasonable and I loved that it was only a very small group so we were able to really interact with the guide better. Most tours are large and you never meet anyone, but this was different because there were only 4 of us! Read more Written August 27, 2018

Paris wasn’t always seen as hospitable to vegetarian diners. In fact, the City of Love used to have a reputation as kind of a nightmare for plant-based eaters. Every menu seemed to be filled with cheese courses, buttery croissants, escargot, steak frites, and croque monsieurs. There was little more than side salads, green beans, and fries to sustain a vegetarian or vegan while exploring the city.

Happily, Paris has recently done a culinary 180, and it’s now one of the most vegetarian-friendly cities in Europe. The international metropolis boasts great vegan and vegetarian restaurants and is currently positioned as one of the leaders in plant-based and eco-friendly fare, from vegan croissants to biodynamic wine.

We’ve rounded up some of our absolute favorite vegetarian spots in Paris to sip wine and indulge in morning pastries and lazy lunch hours. Here are some of the best haunts to add to your must-visit list.

Eden Lodge Paris

Eden Lodge Paris prides itself on being “green and glamorous” and the sophisticated eco-lodge really does live up to its reputation. Built in 2015, Eden Lodge is completely carbon neutral thanks to the combination of renewable, solar, and wood pellet energy. The structure is crafted entirely from wood for better insulation and runs on LED lighting to increase energy efficiency and also installed Japanese sinks and toilets in each guestroom to preserve and reuse water while increasing guest comfort.  edenlodgeparis.net

La Cave Du Paul Bert

Natural wine lovers should not miss a trip to La Cave Du Paul Bert. The smaller restaurant next door to award-winning Paul Bert is a bit more vegetarian-friendly than its neighbor, but it’s really the abundance of natural and biodynamic wine that you won’t want to miss. The casual watering hole takes wine seriously, offering up hundreds of rare and special bottles from all across France and Europe. instagram.com/lacavepaulbert

Le Daily Syrien Veggie is the plant-based sister to the original Le Daily Syrien; serving up vegetarian and vegan takes on classic Syrian dishes, including aubergine caviar, falafel, tabouleh, and more. The colorful restaurant is almost always packed — especially at lunch time — but the indoor/outdoor dining space makes this health-conscious spot one of the best locations for people watching. instagram.com/ledailysyrien

Jo and Nana Cakes

Nobody wants to visit Paris without indulging in French pastries and desserts. Thankfully, more bakeries that omit things like eggs, traditional butter, and cheese have opened in recent years. Plant-based eaters will especially find solace in Jo and Nana Cakes, a totally vegan cafe and bakery that specializes in classic French desserts with a plant-based twist. The allergy-friendly restaurant also offers a line of gluten-free pastries that don’t sacrifice flavor. joandnanacakes.com

Le Petit Bouillon Pharamond

Le Petit Bouillon Pharamond is going to be your best bet if you’re hoping to experience the classic bouillon — a type of traditional French restaurant popularized in the 19th century and currently experiencing a bit of a revival — without having to navigate a meat-filled menu. This Art Nouveau-style space includes a ton of affordable and delicious plant-focused dishes with French flair: think roasted squash with lentils, green peas with mint and hazelnut, and a whole lot of French cheeses and local wine for less than two euros per glass. petitbouillonpharamond.com

Le Café Marly is arguably one of the most well-located indoor/outdoor restaurants in the city. The charming lunchtime spot is situated directly to the left of the Musée du Louvre with unobstructed views of the museum and its glass-and-metal pyramids. Jardin du Luxembourg

The Jardin du Luxembourg in the sixth arrondissement is one of the best places in the city to spend a lazy day in the sun (or to get your steps in without traipsing through the Parisian streets). The 58-acre garden has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a shady tree-lined spot to stop and dive into a good book, practice your hand at tennis on one of the idyllic turf tennis courts, or just want an aesthetically-pleasing break to stop and smell the roses or people watch. senat.fr

Les Puces de Saint-Ouen/b>

Paris is known for its abundance of outdoor markets and second-hand shops and Les Puces de Saint-Ouen is one of the most expansive options in the city. The famed flea market has been serving Parisian locals and visitors since 1870 and covers more than 17 acres of space across the eighteenth arrondissement every Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Expect to find everything from retro knick-knacks and accessories to antique designer furniture and home decor. pucesdeparissaintouen.com

Musée du Louvre

The Musée du Louvre is one of the most well-known tourist hubs in Europe. But things become touristy for a reason — and in the case of the Louvre, the popularity is merited. This gigantic museum is packed with over 15 acres of fine art and history that date back over 9,000 years. In fact — if you walked the entire span of the museum non-stop it would take you nearly three hours. Go ahead and make a beeline to the Mona Lisa if you’ve never seen it in person; once you’ve checked that off the list, veer off to the lesser-visited Richelieu wing for a more relaxed art experience. louvre.fr

The Complete Vegetarian Guide to Paris

Following a vegetarian diet can be tricky in the city of charcuterie and canard, but it is possible..

Vegetarianism hasn’t quite reached Paris in the same way as it has the rest of the world. But lately, the gastronomic pride for charcuterie and beef bourguignon is starting to feel threatened.

Well, maybe.

Although many traditional bistros and brasseries will usually serve something veggie-friendly, often it’s not on the menu, and it’s usually just a plate of random vegetables.

If you’re not looking to feel awkward and then follow that up with disappointment, try out any of these vegetarian restaurants in Paris—they’re good enough to convince the even staunchest meat enthusiasts.

In recent years, vegetarian restaurants in Paris are getting more popular. Here are seven we love.

Le Potager du Marais

The doors of this family-run restaurant in the heart of the Marais—Paris’ first exclusively vegetarian eatery—opened in 2003. It’s strictly veggie, offering a meat-free twist on the classic French cuisine that draws countless gourmands to Paris each year.

There’s vegetarian French onion soup, traditional buckwheat crepes and even meat-free “beef” bourguignon. It’s got all the comfort of a French countryside home, with none of the meaty guilt.

Some vegan restaurants in Paris replicate meaty French classics like beef bourguignon with all plant-based products.

L’as du Fallafel

This Marais staple ( 32-34 Rue des Rosiers ) is worth the inevitably long line. The signature sandwich is chock full of falafel (of course), pickled cabbage, cucumber, grilled vegetables and garlic sauce—all yours to take away for the modest sum of €6.50. There’s some space to sit down inside the small locale, but we suggest finding one of the cute gardens nearby and digging in there—weather permitting, of course!

L'As du Falafel is one of the most famous takeout restaurants in Paris, with lines often leading out the door.

Café Pinson

Café Pinson is a long-standing veggie paradise serving tasty, healthy and organic fare. It’s a classic brunch hotspot in the trendy Haut-Marais , welcoming the fashion crowd for cold pressed juices and raw vegetables like you’ve never tasted them before.

But while the clientele might be impeccably Parisian and stylish, the place is welcoming—think comfortable chairs and Dad-pop playing on the jukebox. Don’t miss the “no meat-balls” and the vegan chocolate cake for pure indulgence at its finest. Many gluten-free options are available here as well.

Café Pinson is one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Paris. We love their "no meat-balls!"

Le Petit Keller

Hidden in this retro bistro —complete with cracked tile floor and formica tables—is an unexpected fusion cuisine.

Bringing her Japanese heritage to quality French produce, chef Kaori Endo has created a whole flavor world of her own. She pairs her original menu with homemade fermented drinks and a pared down natural wine selection (try the fiery homemade ginger ale!).

It’s not strictly vegetarian, but there is a great range of choice for lunch, and veggie-heavy tapas for dinner.

Les Marmites Volantes

Les Marmites Volantes aren’t just serving incredibly tasty and well-priced lunch options in this northern Paris canteen. They’re also changing the way people eat and think about food across the capital.

They source directly from a farm in the suburbs, which works with zero pesticides and properly treats its free-range animals (there is meat on the menu, too). They’re changing the way kids eat at school, providing fresh, seasonal, tasty meals to hundreds of students per day. And they’re taking on Sodexho—the canteen giant—and delivering to offices around the city, with their own bike delivery person.

In short, they’re doing everything right and producing delicious results at the same time.

Les Marmites Volantes is one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Paris—and one of the most sustainable, too.

In the trendy 10th arrondissement, along the Canal Saint Martin, you can find Ima , a home-cooked lunch spot with Middle-Eastern influences. The exposed brick and colorful interior is matched by a flavorful menu and friendly service. The menu changes often, depending on the season, and they serve Paris’s own roasted coffee from the caffeine maestros at La Brûlerie de Belleville .

Chambre Noire

While not strictly vegetarian, this hip wine bar offers small sharing plates with a very veggie focus. It’s all seasonal and the menu changes from week to week, but if you see the Romesco sauce, get it. We don’t know how they do it, but something about their take on this classic sauce has changed our world.

Pair your veggie small plates with any of the sulphite-free natural wine (the reds are almost like fruit juice) and you’ll be in gastronomic heaven.

When it comes to vegetarian restaurants in Paris, Chambre Noire does a romesco like no other.

Best Paris Vegan Guide: Where to Eat, Sleep, & Explore

' src=

Ooh, la la! The smell of freshly-baked bread, café chatter, and the general feeling of romance dancing through the air are all things that come to mind when I think of Paris. To be honest, I wasn’t all that wild about going to Paris. I figured its popularity was overblown, vegan options would be limited, and it was expensive — I just wasn’t into it.

But, I quickly forgot about all of that and became smitten with the atmosphere and found an endless sea of amazing vegan restaurants. Maybe they infuse something in the air that clouds your judgment, whatever it is, it worked.

If you can, I would suggest spending a little extra time in Paris — there is so much to do and experience. A friend of mine once said, “I think you can spend an entire year in Paris and still not see everything.” My feelings exactly.

I hope this vegan guide helps you find everything you’re looking for from, stellar vegan restaurants and shops to where to rest your head!

Is Paris Vegan-Friendly?

Heck, yes, Paris is vegan-friendly! If you were concerned about missing out on creamy cheeses and flaky croissants, think again! The City of Lights was highlighted in 2024 as one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the world by HappyCow! The city has 90 vegan restaurants and over 1,000 vegan-friendly spots — that’s a 13% increase from the previous year!

Globally-Inspired Paris Vegan Restaurants

There are a ton of fantastic vegan restaurants throughout the city; it’s hard to keep them all straight! I suggest saving spots you want to visit to your Google Map. It makes it so much easier to see what’s near you when you’re out and about.

Aujourd’hui Demain

42 Rue du Chemin Vert, 75011 Paris, France A vegan restaurant and market combined in one! This multi-purpose vegan hot spot is an amazing place to enjoy a burger and milkshake (plus loads of other super gorgeous cuisine) then pickup a few vegan essentials like veggie nuggets and maybe even a new pair of shoes — how cool is that!? Their menu does have a few gluten-free options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Vegan Focaccia

19 rue de Berne 08 Arr., 75008 Paris France This hotel is a gem! It is tucked away from the hustle and bustle but is just a couple of blocks from the Rome metro station — making it easy to get around the city. On top of its location, it’s also committed to operating as sustainably in partnership with the ADEME and the Ministry of Ecological Transition. TIP: Get a room on the 6th floor that faces Rue De Berne for a great view of the Eiffel Tower, especially at night.

What To Do & See in Paris

In addition to the fun vegan tours and activities that I mentioned at the beginning of this guide, don’t miss these classic things to do in Paris! Even if you only have one day in Paris , you can still accomplish a lot of sightseeing. Just start early!

Enjoy the massive art collection at Musée du Louvre

If this is your first visit to the Louvre, don’t attempt to see it all in one day. I’m not sure it’s even possible! The world’s largest museum and one of the most well-known collections of art requires a couple of trips. On your first trip, I would plan to focus on an area that is of most interest to you and hit some of the popular pieces like Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.

Visit The Eiffel Tower

You can’t really go to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower, right?! This is one of the most visited monuments in the world so if you plan to tour it, you must purchase your tickets in advance. There are multiple stops along the way to the top to really soak in the city.

Pais Eiffel Tower

Check out the gorgeous Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre (Sacre Coeur Basilica)

This is the second most visited church in Paris — its architecture and views are gorgeous! The grounds and the outside of the building are free to explore but there is a fee to go inside and to the top for a 360 view of the city. While you’re there, you must take a walk behind the Basilica to the cute neighborhood of Montmartre. The steep and winding, cobblestone streets are filled with shops and cafes — don’t miss Rue de l’Abreuvoir — it’s one of the prettiest streets in Paris.

Sacre Coure paris vegan guide

Relax in the Jardin du Luxembourg  (Luxembourg Gardens)

The public gardens surround the French Senate and are filled with beautiful flowers, tree line promenades, fountains, and more. It is one of the prettiest free things to do in Paris and a lovely place to take a break from sightseeing. There are also many activities for children.

The Jardin du Luxembourg

Explore Les Catacombes de Paris (Paris Catacombs)

Beneath the streets of Paris are more than 200 miles of tunnels filled with the bones of 6 million Parisians. During the 17 th century, Paris ran out of room in their cemeteries and began using these tunnels to leave people’s remains. The catacombs also became a popular attraction for the French Royalty—the history is fascinating and the tour with the audio guide is a must!  Definitely buy your tickets in advance, the lines can be very long!

Catacombs Paris vegan guide

Stroll the Champs-Élysées

One of the most well-known avenues in the world—it hosts the annual Bastille Day military parade and is the end of the Tour de France. There are many theatres, cafes, shops (luxury), and the western end is flanked by the Arc de Triomphe. It is a great place for a stroll and sightseeing but I would suggest eating and shopping somewhere a little less crowded.

Arc de Triomphe on a clear day in paris

Hang out and eat at The Ground Control Food Hall

A former rail depot near the Gare de Lyon, filled with restaurants, entertainment, and art. Most of the food is organic and from independent or family producers. There is also live music along with a food market on Sundays.

Stroll through the Le Marais neighborhood

Once the city’s Jewish quarter, today is a very fashionable and LGBT-friendly neighborhood in the heart of Paris. The cobblestone streets are filled with many beautiful places to see like the Place des Vosges or the Musée d’art et d’histoire du Judaïsme. It is also a great place for shopping with many major brands and boutiques, cafes, nightclubs – you won’t get bored.

More Things To Do in Paris

  • See great city views from the Montparnasse Tower Observation Deck
  • Enjoy French art at Musée d’Orsay
  • Take a day trip to The Palace of Versailles
  • Stroll through Saint-Germain-des- Prés
  • Take a river boat cruise on the Seine
  • Stroll through the Latin Quarter

The vegan scene in Paris has finally come into its own with the opening of restaurants and shops that serve food worthy of the French capital’s storied gastronomic credentials. Growing numbers of Parisians are aware of the health and environmental benefits of eating vegan.

As American baker Amanda Bankert of Boneshaker Donuts says, “The evolution in Paris has been pretty amazing. But the French being the French, they insist that vegan food deliver the same gastronomic pleasure as traditional diets do.”

Often led by foreign chefs, vegan restaurants in Paris look to Asian and South American kitchens for inspiration, and contemporary California cuisine is a big influence, too. Where Paris vegan cuisine remains profoundly French is in the subtlety of its seasoning, the quality of the produce, and the technical precision that is a Gallic gastronomic signature.

Note: Not all of the restaurants on this list are strictly vegan. Confirm items fit your dietary needs directly with restaurants.

Alexander Lobrano is a Paris restaurant expert and author of Hungry for Paris, Hungry for France , and his gastronomic coming-of-age story My Place at the Table . He blogs about restaurants and writes often for the New York Times , the Wall Street Journal , Saveur , and other publications.

After a trip to India, Mexican chef Christian Ventura became a vegetarian and decided to open a vegan sushi and Japanese cuisine restaurant in Montreal, Canada, where he already owned several restaurants. His botanical sushi was a big hit, so Ventura and his partners judged that Paris was ready for a similar restaurant and opened Bloom with a 100-percent plant-based menu. Parisians quickly fell in love with his vegan sushi, including favorite dishes like oyster mushroom tempura with truffle sauce or Dragon Eyes, a California roll with sweet potato, asparagus tempura, green onion, and spicy sauce. Bloom now has two addresses in Paris. Finish up a meal with some iced mochi.

Wild and the Moon

In 2016, Emmanuelle Sawko, who also runs Comptoir 102 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, opened this coffee shop, which has since become a regular pit stop for anyone who wants to eat healthy and well in Paris. The menu is 100-percent vegan and runs to freshly pressed juices, smoothies, vegetable salads, and international street food, along with blueberry scones and chiamisu, a coconut milk version of tiramisu. All nine Wild and the Moon addresses in Paris are plastic-free, too.

Tucked away in the trendy Hoy Hotel, Mesa serves a vegan menu developed by Lauren Lovatt and Carolina Rodriguez, plant-based chefs and founders of the Plant Academy in London. Inspired by the kitchens of Latin America, Mesa is open from breakfast to dinner, serving dishes made mostly with organic seasonal produce from small farmers in the Île-de-France, the region surrounding Paris. The menu evolves regularly but could include tacos stuffed with avocado, salad, and smoked mushrooms; crispy cauliflower fried with buckwheat; and tortelloni with vegan ricotta and pickled lemons. Desserts are excellent, including vegan dulce de leche and others that include CBD.

La Guinguette d'Angèle

Angèle Ferreux-Maeght, founder of La Guinguette d’Angèle and co-author of the book Fêtes Végétales , is a leading proponent of detox cooking in Paris. She offers 100-percent vegetal cooking from her tiny shop in Les Halles and changes the menu daily. Dishes like coconut milk panna cotta, cauliflower roasted with curcuma, and pumpkin lentil soup with grilled walnuts and chia seeds have made her a hit with the fashion crowd, including designers at Chanel, Nina Ricci, and other Paris fashion houses.

Le Potager de Charlotte

Founded by David and Adrien Valentin, two brothers from Nîmes, this vegan restaurant (with a second branch in the 17th) is often recommended by local vegans. The kitchens work with local, seasonal, and usually organic produce to make vegan versions of traditional French dishes that are indistinguishable from the originals. These include mushroom gnocchi and a seriously good lemon tart. The chickpea and rice crepes with sweet potatoes and the smoked tofu also have a keen following among regulars.

Boneshaker Donuts

Pastry chef Amanda Bankert, a native of Washington, D.C., worked as a pastry chef in Dublin for 10 years before moving to Paris and picking up a small home fryer at a yard sale. This was the beginning of her ascension as the doughnut queen of Paris, a reign she earned by using the highest-quality ingredients to make her doughnuts fresh several times daily. Then in 2019, she revised all of her recipes to make them vegan. “I didn’t announce I was going vegan (for reasons of health and the environment), so my customers were pretty excited when they discovered that vegan could be delicious,” she says. The menu changes regularly, but speculoos and pumpkin cake flavors are some recent hits.

Faubourg Daimant

Often acclaimed as the best vegan restaurant in Paris, Faubourg Daimant aspires to deliver such a high-level of gastronomic satisfaction that omnivores may forget that the food doesn’t include animal products. Among the dishes that show off the kitchen’s precise technical skills and culinary imagination are carrots glazed with barbecue sauce and tofu croquettes meant to resemble pig’s trotters. The tiled dining room is a beautiful place for a meal, too, and there’s a pleasant courtyard for summer dining, as well.

The 38 Essential Restaurants in Paris

Hidden in a lively corner of the Upper Marais, this low-lit restaurant — with honey-colored wood furnishings and a patio courtyard — is the latest address from Michelin Star–winning chef Assaf Granit and the rest of the Israeli team that brought the city the very popular Balagan and Shabour. Led by chefs Cécile Levy and Dan Yosha, the busy open kitchen puts on a great show while producing dishes like watermelon ceviche with citrus sauce and sunflower seeds, roasted carrots with herbs, and rotisseried celeriac lacquered with pomegranate molasses. There’s an excellent wine list, too.

Jah Jah by le Tricycle

Named for the Rastafari God Jah, this brightly painted Afro vegan restaurant founded by Coralie Jouhier and Daquisiline Gomis offers a large variety of different vegetal milks, including coconut, hemp, soya, almond, and oat, along with a variety of African specialties like mafe, the savory West African peanut stew. Caribbean vegan dishes are also served, including soy fritters with spicy tomato sauce and spinach callaloo with okra.

New York filmmaker Marc Grossman set up shop in Paris in 2006 to offer Parisians a dose of New York atmosphere — and some U.S.-style healthy eating, too. The menu features toast topped with pumpkin, smoked tofu, and mushrooms; veggie stew; and vegan takes on pad thai, pancakes, and cheesecake. The ingredients are first-rate, too, including coffee from local roaster Lomi and bread brought in from the Ten Belles Bakery.

Talented young chef Manon Fleury’s airy, blonde wood–bedecked restaurant in the Marais is one of the most popular new tables in Paris, thanks to the quality of her mostly vegetarian prix fixe menus. A perfect example of her cooking style is a potent but refined compote of tomatoes, tomatillos, and New Zealand gooseberries in a seaweed bouillon. This restaurant is not strictly vegan but can accommodate vegans, so indicate your preferences when you book.

Krishna Bhavan

Located near the Canal Saint-Martin in the 10th Arrondissement, this is one of four Krishna Bhavan restaurants in Paris specializing in Northern Indian vegetarian cooking. A variety of vegan dishes are on offer, and the generous portions of inexpensive food, well-cooked with lively seasonings, have made this snug outlet as popular as the group’s other three tables. Popular dishes include onion bhajis (fritters) and aloo gobi masala (cauliflower with potatoes and spices).

This friendly, easygoing restaurant with blonde wood furnishings is the project of mononymous chef Kumpi and her partner, Richard, who wanted to introduce Parisians to the excellent vegan cooking of Berlin (long one of the most vegan-friendly and innovative cities in Europe). Grab one of the high-top tables by the front window to enjoy dishes like mushroom gyoza and soy croquetas with cumin-roasted broccoli. Delicious gluten-free desserts are available, too.

Cantine Primeur

Located in a working-class district well known for its street art, this friendly storefront on a pedestrian street is a neighborhood favorite for its regularly changing, reasonably priced, almost entirely vegan menu. Don’t miss the vegan lasagne, mafe (West African peanut stew), and various iterations of Vietnamese bo bun .

Jay & Joy

Eating vegan cheese in France will only sound heretical until you’ve sampled some of the wares of this self-described “vegetal creamery” in eastern Paris. The appetizing best-sellers include Jeanne, a vegetal alternative to Roquefort and other blue cheeses; Jil, a vegan take on chevre; and Josephine, a vegetal alternative to camembert and Brie.

Update: January 29, 2024: Jay & Joy has closed.

Don’t believe the clichés – there are vegan and vegetarian restaurants all over Paris. Here are our faves right now

Paris food might seem meaty (it is), but don’t panic – there’s tons here for vegetarians and vegans to get their teeth into. After all, even the biggest carnivores amongst us need a break when they’ve been devouring animals day in, day out.

Contrary to popular belief, Paris is actually home to a ton of great veggie spots, as well as non-veggie spots serving up marvellous veg-friendly menus. From Indian to Middle Eastern (and so much more), our pick of the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Paris have something for everyone. Read on, veg lovers.

Vegetarian restaurants in Paris

Faubourg Daimant

1.  Faubourg Daimant

This is nothing less than the finest vegan restaurant in Paris, where vegetable-based cuisine has a real ambition: to amplify its cuisine towards a meat-free world. On Faubourg Daimant 's  menu, you'll find a merry-go-round of successes: melting carrots glazed with a ‘bbq’ sauce; tofu croquettes like a pig’s trotter; Provençal stuffing, roasts and juices from ‘vegetable carcasses’. This is innovative stuff, set out in a beautiful tiled room (and there's a nice courtyard outside too).

Qasti Green

2.  Qasti Green

Alan Geaam is going green. At his new spot in Sentier, the Lebanese chef is opting for 100 percent vegetarian dishes crafted by his niece, Zeinab Hachem. Qasti Green ’s menu features meat-free classics like hummus and labneh, but also very successful adaptations of meaty dishes, such as the devilishly good shish barak  (Middle Eastern meat dumplings), but vegified – plump veg-filled ravioli, topped with a tangy yogurt sauce. On Sundays, it all transforms into a Levantine brunch for those who like to sleep in.

Furia

3.  Furia

A natural German wine bar with vegetarian Mexican tacos might sound like a strange combo on paper, but the result is magnificent. Picture this; a trio of buckwheat tacos filled with plump oyster mushroom ‘kebabs’, sautéed vegetables awakened by a devilishly spicy aioli, white beans and avocado under a crumbling of feta cheese, all accompanied by mushroom and chickpea cream quesadillas. Everything at Furia is delicious, and you should wash it down with top-notch wines curated by Chambre Noire.

Le Doyenné

4.  Le Doyenné

Forget about the carbon footprint it takes to get to Saint-Vrain – the delicately prepared food, straight from the garden, is absolutely worth it. Le Doyenné  isn’t a vegetarian spot, but it's perfect for vegetarians; all dishes are available in a meatless version, and they're all packed with maximum flavour.

Ima Cantine

5.  Ima Cantine

With a counter brimming with colourful salads and fragrant pastries, this pretty Mediterranean canteen on the banks of the canal makes you want to order everything. And just as well, at Ima Cantine you actually can order everything, because the dishes are all vegetarian. We love it when a plan comes together. Make sure to order the saucy shakshuka.

Le Saint Sébastien

6.  Le Saint Sébastien

Daniela Lavadenz's bistro offers a daring menu that goes against the grain of its classic decor of casson and formica. At Le Saint Sebastien , Christopher Edwards chisels out a variety of dazzling dishes, in which plants feel right at home.

Waalo

7.  Waalo

In his neo-cantine, Mauritanian chef Harouna Sow, a chef trainer for Refugee Food, revisits the emblems of West African gastronomy. Both the mafe  (African peanut stew) and yassa  (a stew from Senegal) at Waalo are available vegetarian as well as meat; the only thing to note are the veggie versions are more expensive, somehow.

Krishna Bhavan Cail

8.  Krishna Bhavan Cail

  • Gare de l'Est
  • price 1 of 4

Specialising in vegetarian dishes from northern India and already something of a hit across Paris, this restaurant on the Rue de Cail is now one of four Krishna Bhavan addresses across the capital. This particular outlet can be a tight squeeze, but it’s worth getting used to the cosiness for all the great, filling, cheap food on offer; paneer butter masala, dal makhani and aloo gobi masala all come in under €10.

La Cantine Champ Libre

9.  La Cantine Champ Libre

Moving from market cuisine to market-inspired dishes, Alice Chabanon and Chloé Jakubowicz opened this bright neighbourhood eatery, instantly becoming an ambassador for local sourcing. To be budget-friendly, animal proteins take a back seat; the starter is always vegetarian, and the main course summons a variety of well-crafted seasonal vegetables sourced from organic farms. La Cantine ’s Sunday brunch is veggie-friendly too.

Le Daily Syrien Veggie

10.  Le Daily Syrien Veggie

It feels quite symbolic – a restaurant that’s 100 percent vegetarian located in a former butcher’s shop on the Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis. Le Daily Syrien have even kept hold of the huge, once meat-packed fridge. Grab a pitta and stuff it with everything you can get your hands on – the falafel, hummus and lentil dishes are particularly good. Order a huge bowl of hummus, topped with broad beans.

The Paris Shortlist

Helping you save time finding the best of Paris since 2018

BEST VEGETARIAN IN PARIS

French cuisine is blessed with hundreds of excellent vegetarian dishes to choose from.  In fact, French know how to turn a tasteless vegetable like a leek into a delectable treat.   Southern French food in particular features many delicious vegetarian options such as ratatouille, and the French have been making delicious Vegetarian soups e.g. French onion soup and root vegetable potage for centuries. So have no fear, you can find vegetarian options at almost any French restaurant.

Yet if you prefer to go to  fully dedicated vegetarian restaurant, we’ve handpicked the best vegetarian in Paris. We start off with with more refined cuisine, but if you’re after some more casual food, such as wraps and vegan burgers, just scroll to the bottom:

1) 42 DEGRES

42 DEGRES specialises in raw vegan and gluten free refined dining. The food is so well thought out and delicious that it would even appeal to meat lovers.  They offer some modern classics like lasagne but also fusion dishes like Konjac noodles, faux crabe with herbes and tomato coulis and an algae tartare. Yum! Everything is very carefully prepared and presented in a nice semi formal dining experience, which brings the dining experience several notches above the usual vegan slop served around the world- because vegans deserve an elevated dining experience too, right?

Price: Mid-range

42 Degres menu (in French)

2) LE POTAGER DE CHARLOTTE

Le Potager de Charlotte gets the top vote since it’s the perfect blend of French and modern cuisine in an unpretentious and comfortable setting.  Food is hearty yet creative, and they even have excellent cocktails and a solid wine menu. They are also open for brunch (petit dej tardif) and do an amazingly good brunch.  There are two in Paris, one in the 9th and another in the 17th.

Price: Mid range

Le Potager de Charlotte menu

3) LE GRENIER DE NOTRE DAME

Le Grenier de Notre Dame is the first 100% vegan restaurant in Paris. It’s located across from the Notre Dame Cathedral and the food is simple and hearty. They are known for their strews, quiches and soups. Their lentil stew and lasagna are particularly popular. It’s not as avant-garde as Le Potager de Charlotte nor as classic French as Le Potager du Marais but food is tasty and nourishing.

Price: Affordable to mid-range

Le Grenier de Notre Dame Yelp page

4) LE POTAGER DU MARAIS

Le Potager du Marais has been around since 2003 and going strong since they do brilliantly refined and delicious vegan takes of French classics like boeuf Bourgignon and delicious soups. Their secret could be that they only use fresh, organic produce, or it could  be the attention to detail and love the team puts in time and time again. Either way this is worth a visit if you’re looking for a 100% vegetarian restaurant.

Price: Mid range.

Le Potager du Marais menu

5) L’AS DU FALAFEL

This place is world famous for falafels, which are made daily and and are served chock-full of toppings and home made sauces.  It’s not an upscale place but they do have seating, albeit not enough. So if the weather permits, take it to go and sit down at nearby Jardin Rosiers. Just remember to clean up after yourselves as falafel sandwiches as big and loaded as their get messy fast!

Price: Affordable

L’as du falafel Yelp page

6) HANK BURGER

Hank Burger is hands down an awesome burger joint.  Even carnivores would love this place as their patties are one of the tastiest you will ever have because let’s be honest, so few have figured out how to make vegetarian burgers genuinely tasty.

Besides their patties, their burgers good because they add all sorts of sauces such as a basil and tomato, a home made BBQ sauce, or a creamy mustard sauce which just brings everything together.  You can also toppings to your heart’s content.

There are two locations in Paris, one in Le Marais and the other in the 9th by the Gare de l’Est train station.

Hank Burger website

7) EAST SIDE BURGERS

Located in the 11th by Metro Sainte Ambroise, East Side Burgers make quality veggie burgers, hot dogs and pasties. Their burgers are really good and while not as gourmet Hank’s, it’s a lovely spot for a quick snack or meal as they have many options for take away if you’re pressed for time.

Price:  Affordable

East Side Burgers official website – menu (in French)

Also note that creperies are great for vegetarians as well since all creperies in Paris offer both savoury and sweet options, and their savory can be like pizzas where you select the fillings you want. We recommend ratatouille, a vegetarian stew from the South of France that is full of flavors of the Mediterranean!

13 Best Vegetarian & Vegan Restaurants in Paris (updated 2024)

Salut from Paris is supported by its audience. When you purchase through links on this site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Vegetarian Restaurants in Paris, you say? Read on! I added a plenty of eateries that I discovered recently.

When I initially penned this article in early 2016, Paris’s culinary landscape was a bit of a desert for vegetarians, and virtually barren for vegans. Often, your only options were limited to fries and a green salad.

Fast-forward to today, and the city has undergone a gastronomic transformation. The rise of vegetarian and vegan cuisine is no longer a subculture, but a growing movement taking over Paris.

Vegan bakeries such as Land & Monkeys have seamlessly integrated into the landscape, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with time-honored pâtisseries.

And restaurants are catching on: it’s becoming increasingly common to find vegetarian dishes prominently featured on menus, and a growing number even offer vegan alternatives.

Vegetarian and vegan choices are increasingly becoming part of the Parisian culinary scene, easily accessible in various settings. Even mainstream supermarkets have expanded their offerings to include vegan cheeses, yogurts, and sausages—items that were hard to come by just a few years ago.

In summary, Paris has widened its culinary embrace, making it a more inviting dining landscape for those with vegetarian or vegan preferences.

The Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Paris

You are looking for the best Vegetarian Food in Paris? Then here’s for you and without further ado my curated list of my favorite vegetarian eateries in Paris.

#1 Hank Burger: vegan & gluten-free

55 Rue des Archives & 8 Rue Marguerite de Rochechouart

Hank Burger has established itself as the go-to restaurant for vegan burgers in Paris . With its playful acronym standing for “Have a Nice Karma,” the eatery certainly lives up to its name by offering ethically sourced and delicious options.

Nestled in the Marais district on Rue des Archives, it looks not more than a small takeaway shop from the outside. But the restaurant has a cozy seating area upstairs. So it’s certainly a great place for a relaxed lunch.

You can choose between a variety of options, like vegan patties or vegan steak, and if you prefer a gluten-free bun, you can have that, too.

Beyond burgers, you can also enjoy a vegan version of the French classic Tartiflette, but also yummy chili cheese fries.

#2 Le Grenier de Notre Dame

18 Rue de la Bûcherie 75005 Paris

Opened in 1978, Le Grenier de Notre Dame became the first vegetarian restaurant in Paris. Specializing in vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options , the establishment focuses on using regional and organic ingredients.

Whether you come for lunch or dinner, make sure to try their exceptional selection of freshly squeezed juices.

Perfectly situated in the heart of Paris, you find Le Grenier de Notre Dame directly across from the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral and next to the famous Shakespeare and Company bookstore.

Tip : Book a table online with The Fork . With my code, you receive €10 off your bill. ( click here )

#3 Tien Hiang: Vegan Restaurant in Paris

14 Rue Bichat, 75010 Paris

If you’re a fan of authentic Southeast Asian flavors and are on the hunt for plant-based options, Tien Hiang is your culinary oasis in Paris.

As a family-run establishment that planted its roots back in the ’90s, Tien Hiang holds the distinction of being the first plant-based Asian restaurant in the city. You’ll find all your favorite classics here—from Chicken Pad Thai to Prawn Tempura and Lemongrass Beef Skewers. And rest assured, each dish is crafted from soy-based, cruelty-free ingredients.

Given its longstanding reputation and immense popularity, arriving early is highly recommended. If you do encounter a wait, know that it’s well worth it. They don’t take reservations.

it's not the best food photography but my dish smelled so good I couldn't wait to eat it

#4 Saravanaa Bhavan: Indian Vegetarian Restaurant in Paris

170 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, 75010 Paris

Saravanaa Bhavan is a renowned South Indian restaurant chain specializing in vegetarian fare. With locations in numerous international cities, it’s the go-to spot for anyone craving authentic Indian flavors, particularly those from the South.

Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or simply wanting some soul-nourishing cuisine, Saravanaa Bhavan has something to delight your palate.

If you’re new to South Indian food and unsure where to start, the Idli (savory steamed rice cakes) and Sambar (a hearty lentil stew spiced with aromatic herbs and veggies) make for a compelling introduction.

The menu also features an array of Dosa (rice crêpes), Pongal, Poori, and Uthappam. While many dishes can be adapted for a vegan diet—just check with the staff—please note that ghee is a common ingredient in many offerings. For vegan-safe options, the Idli and Dosa come highly recommended.

When looking for vegetarian restaurants in Paris, Indian restaurants are a great idea.

#5 Apéti: Vegan Restaurant in Paris

21 bis Avenue de Ségur, 75007 Paris

Located conveniently between Invalides and the Eiffel Tower, Apéti is a charming vegan restaurant in an ideal spot to take a break from your Parisian sightseeing adventures.

The founder, coming from the luxury sector, has created a refined plant-based menu that is both delicious and visually amazing. Whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, or interested in raw options, there’s something for every dietary preference.

The restaurant sources organic and seasonal ingredients, ensuring your meal is as fresh as it is flavorful. Self-described as a “temple of fruits and veggies,” this establishment offers an elevated dining experience that caters to both health-conscious eaters and culinary buffs.

You can eat either in the restaurant or order takeout. They are open every day.

#6 Sense Eat (permanently closed)

39, rue Mazarine 75006 Paris

The gastronomic vegetarian and vegan restaurant Sense eat is the perfect place for fine dining. Its dishes are inspired by Italian cuisine and are served as little pieces of art. Located in the center of Paris, it offers lunch and dinner service and is also barrier-free.

#7 Colorova: Vegetarian Friendly Restaurant in Paris

47 Rue de l’Abbé Grégoire | Reserve on The Fork and get €10 off your bill

Col orova may not be all-vegetarian, but it’s super veggie-friendly and a perfect pick if you’re eating out with folks who eat a bit of everything. They always have at least one veggie starter and main on the menu, so you won’t feel stuck with limited choices.

The vibe shifts from a laid-back upscale canteen at lunch to a modern coffee and pastry spot later on. You can swing by pretty much any time. Plus, they’re all about being eco-friendly, which is always a win.

Got a sweet tooth? You have to try their pâtisserie , that is served for tea time and as dessert. They’re spectacular.

And if you’re into sipping something besides coffee, I recommend their homemade citronade .

Colorova is also a good address if you are looking for a vegetarian brunch in Paris.

#8 Big Love: Italian Vegetarian Restaurant

30 Rue Debelleyme, 75003 Paris

If you’re a fan of Italian food, Big Love should be very very high on your bucket list. It’s part of the Big Mamma Group, who’ve got a bunch of restaurants around Paris and other European cities. Like in each of their restaurants, the atmosphere’s pretty great. It’s a busy, quirky place that is easy to love.

As for my go-to dish? I’d recommend the smoked stracciatella-filled cappellacci. It’s a real treat. So if you’re vegetarian, or even just open to trying something new, Big Love’s got a solid menu worth exploring.

Big Love is a popular place. Best you reserve.

#9 TranTranZai: Chinese Soups & Noodles

3 locations in Paris: Quartier Latin, Montparnasse, Les Halles

If you’re into Chinese homemade noodles and soups, especially from the Sichuan region, you’ve got to check out TranTranZai . I stumbled upon it last year, and let’s just say I’ve racked up a few loyalty cards since. The flavors? Think tangy, spicy, and super fresh. It’s like a big bowl of comfort.

They’ve got three locations in Paris, and honestly, they’re all good. But if I had to pick, the one in Les Halles is probably my go-to. The interior’s got this quirky charm that makes you feel like you’re in a little food stall in China.

It’s not fully vegetarian, but they’ve got some solid veggie options. My fave? The vegetarian cold noodles without soup. And hey, they let you pick your spice level, from 0-6. But heads up: I like my food spicy, and even a 4 is a scorcher.

They don’t take reservations, but they usually have enough space for everyone.

#10 Sweet Rawmance: vegan, gluten free and raw

17 Place Saint-Pierre, Montmartre

I discovered Sweet Rawmance during the on-and-off periods of confinement and restrictions. It was quite the find and each and every time a highlight in my home office routine.

Most of their dishes are raw, or at least partially so, but they’re always vegan and mostly gluten-free. It’s a good spot if you’re looking for a healthy meal option.

The one downside is they’ve since moved locations and aren’t as conveniently near me as before. Otherwise, I’d probably be eating there weekly.

#11 Pierre Sang Express

12 Rue Notre Dame des Champs, 75006 Paris

Pierre Sang Boyer, a French-Korean chef who was a finalist in the 2nd season of Masterchef, has carved out quite the culinary reputation in Paris with his four restaurants.

While three of them are fine-dining spots that have gained quite a following, he’s also got this little gem of a street food shop near the Jardin du Luxembourg .

Here, you can grab his gourmet take on the Korean dish bibimbap. The best part? It’s only 12€ and comes in a vegetarian version too.

The only drawback is that there’s no seating area, so it’s more of a grab-and-go situation. You could enjoy it in the nearby park or even get it delivered via Uber Eats. Either way, it’s a fantastic vegetarian option if you’re in the area.

Vegetarian Food Option in Paris: Pierre SAng Express

#12 Sezono: French Vegetarian Restaurant

13 Rue Jacques Louvel-Tessier, 75010 Paris

Sezono is a standout when it comes to the best vegetarian restaurants in Paris. Especially if you’re all about eating healthy, seasonal, and sustainable food that actually tastes amazing.

What’s cool about this place is that it’s not just a restaurant; it’s also a marché where you can shop for fresh, regional produce. And when I say regional, I mean often right from Paris itself—like organic mushrooms grown in the 18th arrondissement of Paris , or cheese from a local Parisian fromagerie.

Got a busy schedule? They do takeout too, but make sure to bring your own container. It’s a nice touch that stays true to their sustainable ethos.

Tip : Are you looking for a vegetarian brunch in Paris? Then this is your address!

#13 L’As du Falafel

34 Rue des Rosiers, 75004 Paris

I saw this Facebook the other day comment saying L’As du Falafel is “hardly a restaurant,” and I get it—it’s mainly known as a street food spot.

Sure, they have a pretty sizable restaurant space attached, but the takeaway stand steals the show.

That said, if you’re a vegetarian in Paris, you’ve got to check out their falafel. Yeah, it’s a tourist spot, but trust me, locals like myself dig it too because it’s just that good.

Don’t let the often-crazy queue discourage you; these folks know what they’re doing. They’re quick and efficient, so you’ll be chowing down on some top-notch falafel in no time.

Vegetarian Paris: Tips and Tricks

While traditional French cuisine is heavily centered on meat and dairy—think dishes rich in both, with vegetables often served as a creamy side—it hasn’t always been the most welcoming for those on meat-free or dairy-free diets.

Mention to a waiter that you’re vegetarian, and you might be met with a suggestion for the “fish of the day,” as if that somehow fits the bill.

However, times are changing and there are plenty of ways to navigate Paris as a vegetarian these days!

While you might find it challenging to get a fully vegetarian meal in a traditional French fine dining establishment (correct me if you’ve had a different experience), there are numerous other options available to satisfy your palate.

  • For a broad range of vegetarian and vegan options, Indian, Lebanese, and Southeast Asian restaurants are your best bet. They usually have diverse plant-based menus that won’t leave you feeling limited.
  • If you’re craving a burger, you’re in luck. Many burger joints in the city have added vegetarian patty alternatives to their menus, making it easier for everyone to find something they like.
  • When dining in Paris, it’s a good rule of thumb to assume that dishes containing meat are the norm unless stated otherwise. Even if a dish appears to be vegetarian, it’s always best to double-check with the staff.
  • As for traditional French fare that’s generally vegetarian-friendly, consider dishes like omelettes, ratatouille, and gratins. Onion soup, quiches, and tartes can also be meat-free—just watch out for lardon (bacon). Crêpes and galettes often come in vegetarian varieties as well.

However, you need to prepare your vegetarian Paris vacation a little to avoid falling back to “Pret-a-Manger” or “Exki” all too often. Both are great though if you just casually want to grab a bite.

Vegetarian Restaurants in PAris: Sabiche

Voilà, that’s my list of favorite vegetarian restaurants in Paris. As you can see, the city is brimming with options for vegetarians and vegans alike.

From scrumptious vegan burgers to upscale veggie dishes, there’s something for every plant-based palate. It’s high time for the old stereotype of Paris as unfriendly to vegetarians to be laid to rest.

So the next time you find yourself in Paris, rest assured, you’ll eat well—très bien, in fact!

FAQ Vegetarian Paris

When you eat out in Paris, eating Ratatouille, Onion Soup, Fries, and Salads are good French vegetarian dishes. If you eat eggs, you can add Quiches, Omelettes, Crêpes, and Galettes to your diet. Overall, you find more vegetarian options in Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern Restaurants.

Paris has the reputation to be actually NOT ok for Vegetarians. But recently, the trend came around, and now you find many options for everyone who eats plant based or vegetarian. While the fine dining restaurants are still a bit behind, most restaurants in Paris have now vegetarian options on their menus.

The oldest vegetarian French restaurant is Le Grenier de Notre Dame in the Latin Quarter. The oldest vegan restaurant is the family run Asian Restaurant Tien Hiang in the 10th Arrondissement.

Lulu was great! She was very informative, gave us good history regarding the stomping grounds of Julia Child. We walked through beautiful neighborhoods and ate at various places which all had great food (crepes, Perisian sandwiches, chocolate, eclaires, quiche, patisserie, wine and cheese). This was a decent amount of walking but not too much. At the end of the tour, including a walk to the Metro, including a quick stop to the Louvre, we were only at 10K steps.

Aneesh Kulkarni

We thought Benoit was an amazing guide on this twilight walking food through Le Marais. Engaging and interesting conversation throughout the tour. Great choices for stops, history and food. We would highly recommend this tour and Benoit. We were a family of four with two teenagers and they loved Benoit and for the tour that they made exciting.

Jessica Lowe McCraw

The BEST adventure through Montmartre BOOK THIS TOUR!!!! Our guide was absolutely FANTASTIC. He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and you could tell he has a passion and love for food and the city. He has the best personality and we enjoyed every minute of the tour and learning about the food and history of Montmartre. We had the very best food and wine. We tried escargot for the first time and it was incredible. We had a fantastic group and the most memorable experience.

Kathi L

We were a family group of 12 ranging from 21 to 77 years and this absolutely suitable for everyone! Silvana was phenomenal in her knowledge of the area and her sense of humor was on point. The food and the wine were outstanding - our collective favorite was the pita at Miznon. We thought the food selection was well balanced - we loved that Silvana shared the French influence that has been incorporated in this amazing Jewish district. Absolutely would do this tour again!

rebecca s

We enjoyed Ben and all the food! He bent over backwards to accommodate our luggage so we wouldn’t miss the tour! There was plenty of food so come hungry! One of the best vegetarian pita sandwiches we ever had. Yes they accommodate vegetarians! I’m really hooked on food and wine tours now!

Stephanie Slaviero

Tris was amazing! He was so knowledgeable on everything French cuisine! He taught us so much about French food and how to choose the best! The food was also amazing! So much great food and so much great wine! I really wish we did this on our first day in Paris and not our last so that we could have eaten at some of the place Tris told us about!

Elisabeth Hess

We had a terrific tour with Chef Tris in Momartre! He was so much fun and full of great knowledge. The food was terrific and the day ended with an unbelievably great pastry called a choupette. Wow! Highly recommend this tour if you are in Paris. Yum yum!!

Melanie Abrahams

Claire is an amazing guide! We loved hearing about all the Paris history and the history specifically of Le Marais. She also shared interesting anecdotes about local businesses. And stopped at 2 secret gardens we would have never discovered in our own. The food stops were so delicious! The kouginettes from Maison George Larnicol were perfection. We finished with an amazing selection of cheeses and Pinot Noir at a quintessential Paris spot. The tour was a great way to explore Le Marais, meet some new people and enjoy great food and drinks

Jennifer Edgerton

My husband and I loved the food tour of Montmartre. We learned so much about French cuisine while we were eating our weight in delicious French food! We had escargot, beef bourguignon, cheese and fruit, macrons, and of course some lovely wine. We can recommend this tour enough! Our guide was so knowledgeable and such a fun character. Definitely take this tour if you're in Paris!

Tamarah B

The tour was amazing! Camila was a fantastic tour guide very informative and friendly. We learned so much about the history of Paris Le Marais is filled which such a rich fascinating history and a cool present filled with delicious classic and unusual food, desserts, and drinks.

Amy Tarleton

Chef Tris and Chef Karl provided a most memorable experience with their charisma, knowledge and storytelling. We did exactly what the tour described with walking in Julia Child’s footsteps on an average day in Paris. We started with a delectable crepe that could be either sweet or savory next door to the creperie that Julia regularly visited (sadly now closed). Then we ate Eclairs, shared jambon beurre baguettes, pain aux raisins, sampled various cheeses with a lovely glass of wine that was Julia’s favorite at her favorite restaurant just right around the corner from her Parisian home. Intermixed with the food was sightseeing and walking through the Latin Quarter and Saint Germain neighborhoods. All in all, our group had a tremendous time and would recommend to anyone even if you aren’t familiar with Julia Child.

Bruce Ewing

We went on the Eating Europe Food Tour of Montemartre. We had a blast! It was the best!!! We learned so much -- We ate & drank so much!!! It was an amazing afternoon we had! We are so grateful!!!

David Lee

I don’t normally write reviews. But this Montmartre food tour was hands down one of the very best things we did in Paris. Our host, Tris, was absolutely awesome - knowledgeable, funny, personable and very instructive on food, sourcing high-quality foods and wines, and giving us great insider-tips on local restaurants and specialty shops. This is not a typical food tour where they speed-walk you around town to sample tiny morsels. We learned about Parisian history and food culture and visited several shops, all culminating in a long, relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable (and delicious) lunch with multiple courses and many different wines. All throughout, Tris was simply amazing. This truly is a must-do tour. My daughters (16 and 19) are still talking about it.

Taylor Reeves

Claire was a great tour guide! She gave my sister and I a one of a kind experience in France. We learned all about history, culture, and traditional food of the area. Would highly recommend to anyone traveling to the area!

Tricia Finch

Camile was a delight to have as a food tour guide in the Marais district. Her knowledge of the area and it’s history were awesome, making the afternoon a delight. Camile gave us recommendations for cafes, Boulangeries, places to tempt our tastebuds and hidden areas to relax for the rest of our stay. We highly recommend her as a guide. Thanks Camile.

Paris’ #1 Montmartre Food Tour

French foods with a french foodie.

The best food tours in the city

booking required extra small groups Also available as a vegetarian option

What's in our tour?

Do you like to sample top-notch foods? Is good French food part of your plans on your trip? Do you like to get to know a country’s culture through its food ? Then our Paris Food sampling tour in Montmartre might be right for you.

We binge on a wide picking of French food. Our food selection is generally organic, all seasonal, and always sinfully tasty.

We sample terrine, smoked hams and garlic sausage. We eat roast provencal poultry. We have chèvre and Brie paired with award-winning baguette. Fresh oyster from Normandy if you like it. And chocolate macaron, chouquette and fruit tart. All are on this menu, with variations to take advantage of every season. The menu also includes wine or a soft drink.

Our food sampling has moved to Montmartre because it has become the center of gourmet foods in Paris.

First we shop for food. And as we shop, we eat and sample. Along the way, we do a bit of sight-seeing. Then we sit down for a proper meal – and we again eat of course. After that, we pick ourselves and go for one final fine food, just to top things off.

We meet outside iconic Moulin Rouge. Sacré Coeur glitters in the distance. We head out to rue Lepic, Montmartre’s historic food market street. Lepic features butchers and bakers. Fish stores and cheese mongers. Oyster stands and specialty food stores. All are family-run and authentic, and all support healthy eating and small-farm economics.

We run across centuries-old food signs and window shops. We visit award-winning food stores, and we chat with engaging purveyors. On the way, we get to explore Montmartre, from Moulin Rouge to Sacré Coeur. Montmartre was once the home of Van Gogh, Picasso and Amélie. It is also Edith Piaf’s favorite song theme, and we find out why.

Your guide is a food lover, with a knack for good stories. S/he is also a local with plenty of insider’s insights to share. As a foodie amongst foodies, your guide also provides anecdotes illustrating how food matters to the French. You’ll discuss the role of food in French culture – in matters of business, politics, and romance.

At the end of the tour, you will not want to eat for a while. But you’ll know new foods. You’ll know how your favorite French specialty is made. And you’ll know how to shop for the best foods in France.

Beetroot and beefless bourguignon as Paris Olympics embraces vegetarian cuisine

Top chefs say the Games will rebrand French gastronomy as a showcase for plant-based food

I t will boast the world’s biggest salad bar, offer fans vegetarian hotdogs and bring in up to half a million bananas by boat to meet athletes’ insatiable demand for the fruit while avoiding the carbon footprint of air travel.

As part of its efforts to cut carbon emissions , the Paris Olympics will make history by offering more vegetarian cuisine than in any Games.

France, the nation of steak tartare and creamy blanquette de veau , is the European country with the highest beef and veal consumption per inhabitant, but chefs say the Olympic Games will rebrand French gastronomy as a showcase for plant-based food.

The restaurant in the athletes’ Olympic Village, serving 40,000 meals a day and open 24 hours, will become the biggest restaurant on Earth. One-third of its 500 recipes will be vegetarian, including locally grown lentils and quinoa.

For the first time, a plant-based meat substitute firm, Garden Gourmet, a subsidiary of Nestlé, is an Olympic sponsor, providing plant-based burgers and chickpea and beetroot falafels in an attempt to make France more “flexitarian”.

“We’re in France, so food is important,” said Georgina Grenon, environmental excellence director for Paris 2024. “But it is about presenting another way to eat deliciously, even in a fast-paced way, like vegetarian hamburgers and hotdogs at a stadium.”

Three hotdogs with toppings including ketchup and mustard and coriander leaves

With 13m meals served during the Games – including for fans, staff, volunteers and athletes – the focus is on locally grown vegetables. The 15,000 athletes, who eat according to strict training rules, will have access to locally sourced meat and fish. But the number of vegetarian dishes on offer to them will be much higher than before.

Meanwhile, of the estimated 5m meals and snacks sold to fans at stadiums and venues, 60% of those in Paris and the surrounding Île-de-France area will be vegetarian. This will include a signature vegetarian hotdog tested last year at mountain biking trials, where it vastly outsold the meat option.

There will also be a special egg muffin for athletics fans at the Stade de France, where races are often held in the morning, and venues will also offer organic vegetarian crepes and a vegan escalope sandwich. The urban park at Place de la Concorde, which will host skateboarding, breakdancing and BMX, will be meat-free. Officials said this would appeal to the “younger, very international crowd”.

Three men and one woman look at crates of potatoes at a potato farm.

The strict carbon footprint restrictions ensure no food for the Paris Olympics will come by plane. This means bananas will be shipped by boat from the French Caribbean and passion fruit, which needs to fly, is banned.

“Of course great gastronomy can be vegetarian,” said the Michelin-starred French chef Akrame Benallal, who was asked to create a handful of signature dishes for athletes. These include a reworked version of his famous savoury quinoa muesli, made with quinoa grown south of Paris, a touch of mascarpone and parmesan and crunchy fried grains on top. He has also created mushroom croquettes with black cardamon.

Quinoa muesli

“It was about trying to create a cuisine that would make sense to everybody, and which everyone could enjoy, whether athletes eat kosher, halal, vegetarian, it was about everyone taking pleasure in it,” Benallal said. “They have to put down their spoon and say, ‘Wow, that’s very, very good.’”

One of Benallal’s restaurants, Shirvan in Paris, inspired by the silk route, already serves 60% vegetarian dishes. “French cuisine for me is one of the most varied, mixed, diverse in the world, because there is a lot of influence from many, many countries and its riches lie in the cooking techniques,” he said.

Charles Guilloy, executive chef for the firm Sodexo Live!, will run the restaurant at the Olympic Village, where, at 3,500 seated places, athletes will for the first time eat off washable plates, instead of disposable ones. His signature dishes include a dal made with locally grown French green lentils, topped with skyr, coriander and a sliver of corn bread.

“The false stereotype remains that French gastronomy is meat, meat, and only meat,” Guilloy said. “In fact, traditions are built around excellent, local, seasonal vegetables. Beef bourguignon is a very French recipe but I’ve reworked it for Olympic athletes as a vegetarian bourguignon with seasonal vegetables, potatoes, carrots, peas, young leeks and shallots. I like to eat a vegetarian dish with a knife and fork and for it to be just as pleasurable as animal products. The area around Paris produces great vegetables, all types of cabbage to cress and lentils. I’ve created a lentil dal with local green lentils and locally grown coriander because lentils have been a staple through the ages.”

Guilloy’s other dishes include a tarte tatin of tomatoes and onions.

The dal cooking in a pan

Meanwhile, canteens for Olympic staff and volunteers will serve 50% vegetarian meals. On some days, only vegetarian dishes will be on offer.

Philipp Würz, in charge of catering on the Paris 2024 organising committee, said that for fans “we wanted to reverse the tendency to offer vegetarian options as an afterthought. Here, vegetarian is the majority, meat options are there but fewer in number.”

Athletes will be able to eat according to their culture and dietary needs, from locally produced Korean-style kimchi to Chinese-style rice.

But he said teams had also requested good quality pizza and pasta. “We’re not just feeding sports people before their events – when their competition is over, they may want to relax and tuck in. At that point, a good pizza is surprisingly in demand.”

Take a Tour of the Chic Paris Apartment with Views of the Eiffel Tower on Food Network’s Next Baking Master: Paris

In the new Food Network series, premiering May 6, U.S. bakers travel to France to compete for the title of Next Baking Master

American cooks are saying bonjour to France in Food Network’s latest competition series, Next Baking Master: Paris .

Hosts Stephanie Boswell and Ludo Lefebvre are bringing 10 bakers to the City of Lights to learn, taste and bake French pastries. PEOPLE has an exclusive look at the first episode, which premieres on May 6. In it, the bakers tour the stunning Parisian apartment they will stay in after full days of croissants and macaroons.

The 10 competitors eagerly hop out of their cars to see the apartment. After pushing through grand entryway doors, they trudge up a beautiful, winding staircase — giving each other words of encouragement to make it upstairs with their large luggage.

“I’m sweating,” one contestant says. Another chef replies, “I think it’ll all be worth it.”

As soon as they open the doors, they learn it was in fact, worth it. The group awes at the sunlight-filled apartment with colorful artwork on the walls, wooden pillars in the living rooms and marble fireplaces.

“We are chic here,” says Paige, a chef from Brooklyn.

Food Network

The views may be even more stunning than the interior. Everyone takes turns admiring their unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower, which can be seen from their living room windows and from the balconies.

The contestants take a lackadaisical approach to choosing their specific rooms because they are all equally beautiful. Two chefs look out of the window to see a grandiose French street.

“Are you kidding me? I’m literally red,” says one chef, blushing from excitement.

For some contestants, being in France and competing on Next Baking Master: Paris is a massive milestone.

“This is kind of a dream for me, you know, being in Paris,” says Robert, a baker from Philadelphia. “You know, I grew up in a rough neighborhood in Philly and poor. It's so easy to be inspired here.”

To celebrate their abode and the start of the competition, the cast pops a bottle of champagne and clink their drinks for a “cheers” to Next Baking Master.

“May the sweetest one win,” one chef adds.

Every week, the 10 bakers will visit iconic pastry shops, like Ladurée, and be mentored by famous French chefs. Weekly baking challenges will send the lowest scoring chef back to America until a winner is crowned and given a full suite of kitchen appliances and baking equipment valued at $25,000.

Next Baking Master: Paris premieres May 6 at 9 p.m. ET on Food Network.
