Biografie - Paul McCartney

Juni 1942 in Liverpool geboren.

Paul McCartney heute: Shows, Alben, Kollaborationen und Auszeichnungen

2012 veröffentlicht Paul McCartney das Album „Kisses On The Bottom“, auf dem er seine Lieblingssongs aus der Kindheit neu interpretiert. Ein Jahr später folgt „New“.

Man muß andere Vergleiche ziehen!

Let it be, Paul

Neben U2 in Köln schlechtestes Konzert aller Zeiten.

Honey Dont oder Day Tripper. Danke, Paul!

Please issue "Wings Over Europe" as a separate release.

I can't agree more, Kevin ! Strange to bundle it in the very expensive boxset, and not make it available as standalone release !

' src=

Finally !!! Thank you Paul for releasing this incredible early Wings package. I love all the Wings stuff not only for its relevance in music history but for the simplistic beauty of very early wings material through the mega hits silly love songs and band on the run, right up to the killer comming up and spin it on tunes which capture the period of the 70's so well. Paul did exactly what he said he would do after the Beatles split and i am sure the other lads were proud, jelous and knocked out by it all. Early Wings on tour could very well have been the Beatles IF the boys would have listened to Paul about hitting the road again , as a simple lil rock and roll unit (like the old days). My favorite two Wings/Mccartney albums -Red Rose and Wild life now as a deluxe box set...... who the hell could ask for more? Keep the treasures comming young man. ps. would like too see the over europe released as a stand alone as well. More affordable for a lot of the younger fans. Also, STILL a lot of unreleased live shows and tracks that need to see the light of day. Time to show the kids what true artistry and musicianship is all about.

Thanks Glen - very wise words ! :)

the first edition is already sold out will there be another edition

@florence unfortunately no indication there will be a 2nd edition :(

can you send me news as soon as possible second edition will be available I am a big fan of Paul and I would be sad not to have this magnificent item in my collection thank you for your kindness Florence

' src=

This is already sold out on Paul's website. Will it be released again?

@florence, @klsbsw Will tell you if I notice a 2nd issue is coming !

' src=

Very sad this set sold out almost two weeks before release. The sales page said "limited" but did not indicated how limited. To add salt on the wound, the McCartney people sent us an email advertising the set on launch day with a link. I was excited for a second, but it was still... sold out.

' src=

Strange to hear a Dutch intro to Big Barn Bed from Newcastle. What's that???

Hi W.A. Linke, what I've read is that there had been a lot of editing on Wings Over Europe - to make it like a full concert experience, rather than a collection of tracks from various concerts. As a result, Big Barn Bed is really from 1973 Newcastle, but the intro is from one of the Dutch concerts

' src=

Bought both the Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway deluxe archives but I would have loved to get that Wings Over Europe package: the programme and of course the concert. To me it was the best Wings line-up and such testimonies of Paul starting all over are so rare and precious. Please make it a stand-alone release !!!

' src=

It takes the piss that they put in the ultra rare Wings over europe and package it all together with Wild Life reissued to just and justify the extortionate price. Just put it out as single album at an affordable price for all us loyal fans. Am damn sure MPL has made enough money already.

' src=

A real shame this isn't available separately. I don't begrudge anyone able to afford all the fancy box sets, books and artwork, but the music... The Music! Guess what happens when the recording industry's (or whoever decides) strategy is to not make this available to regular fans...?

' src=

Waiting for the seperate release of Wings over Europe.

' src=

I Just bought "wild life" and "red rose" archives edition... it's possibile to hope to have Wings Over Europe separately? Cheers from Italy!

hi @marco, unfortunately, Wings Over Europe has never been sold as an individual release !

' src=

I think that box set for the average fan was way too expensive. So could you now issue the cd set of Wings Over Europe. That's the only Box Set that is missing in my collection

can you release the Wings Over Europe Deluxe separately, because at the time of release of the box set i'd already purchased the other two

After Wings’ UK college itinerary, it was all aboard a double decker bus for a major European adventure.

Paul McCartney’s 2022 Got Back tour and Glastonbury Festival headliner showed that his love of getting out on the road to play his songs remained undiminished. It also underlined that the way he tours has itself come quite a long distance.

If we mention the idea of Paul and the band getting on a bus for destinations undiscovered, you may well assume we’re in Magical Mystery Tour territory. Instead, we’re turning back the clock to July 9, 1972. That’s when McCartney and his still relatively new group Wings followed their UK college tour of earlier in the year by getting on a brightly-decorated, open-top London double-decker for the Wings Over Europe itinerary.

Back to college

Paul and the band had amazed and delighted their British fans in February that year, mounting a tour of UK universities. It was his first live schedule since The Beatles finally decided that they couldn’t take the deafening screams and relentless fan mania anymore, ending as a touring entity in 1966. After the late 1971 release of the Wild Life album , the new low-key dates supported the controversial single “Give Ireland Back To The Irish.” The song was banned by radio for its outspoken political stance.

‘Monday, Monday’: A Mamas and the Papas Classic For Every Day

‘hey girl’: the small faces think big with their first self-written hit.

Mary Had A Little Lamb (2018 Remaster)

In dramatic contrast, Wings followed up with a single that was criticized for the absolute opposite reason: the nursery-rhyme approach, literally, of “Mary Had A Little Lamb.” That was their current release as they hopped on a bus with their names proudly and neatly emblazoned on the back: Paul and Linda McCartney, Denny Laine, Henry McCullough, and Denny Seiwell, with the McCartney children and the road crew also aboard. First destination: Ollioules, in the southwest of France.

“We knew we were going to tour in Europe, and that the weather would be nice, and the idea of being stuck in a bus all the time, going from city to city, hotel to hotel, wasn’t too appealing,” Paul remembers on paulmccartney.com. “So we decided to travel around in an open-top bus and got some sunshine as we travelled from one place to another.”

I Am Your Singer (Remastered 2018)

That first gig took place at the Centre Culterelle, Châteauvallon. Wings introduced a generous 20-song set that would be the basis of a 26-date, nine-country itinerary lasting until  August 24. The July 9 show featured both of the aforementioned singles, as well as tracks from Wild Life including “Bip Bop,” “I Am Your Singer,” and the title song.

Denny Laine’s feature spot

Laine sang his beautiful ballad “Say You Don’t Mind,” which had just been a Top 20 UK hit in March 1972 for former (and future) Zombies singer Colin Blunstone. There were songs from Paul’s immediately pre-Wings projects such as “Maybe I’m Amazed” from McCartney and “Smile Away”   from Ram. The next Wings single “Hi Hi Hi” also featured with some unadulterated rock’n’roll fun, as on covers of “Blue Moon Of Kentucky” and “Long Tall Sally.”

Listen to the best of Paul McCartney & Wings on Apple Music and Spotify.

The intention was to record shows on the tour for a future live release. While that didn’t come to pass, the live version of “The Mess” from the August 21 show in the Hague, Holland, did become the B-side of the 1973 US No.1 single “My Love.”

The Mess (Live At The Hague/1972)

“We painted the outside psychedelic, like a magic bus,” McCartney says of their tour transport on that halcyon trip. “If you look at it very straight, very conventionally, it was quite a mad thing to do, to put a playpen on the top deck of the bus and put all the children in there while driving around Europe. It was not what you’d expect from a normal band. But we weren’t a normal band.”

Buy or stream the remastered 2CD digipack of Wings’ Wild Life album, featuring studio originals of some of the songs on the 1972 tour.

Sir Paul McCartney MBE is an English musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century.

He was part of perhaps the most famous British band of the 20th century, The Beatles who are regarded as one of the most popular and influential acts in the history of rock music and his songwriting partnership with John Lennon is one of the greatest of all time. McCartney has been recognised as one of the most successful performers of all time collating 60 gold discs and sales of over 100 million albums and 100 million singles of his work with the Beatles and as a solo artist.

In 1999 he received the honour of being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist due to the fact that he has written, or co-written 32 songs that have reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and as of 2014 he has sold more than 15.5 million RIAA-certified units in the United States. McCartney, Lennon, Harrison and Starr received MBEs in 1965, and in 1997, McCartney was knighted for his services to music. He performed at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games and is seen as ambassador of British music.

McCartney first met Lennon at a church fete in 1967 where he was performing with his current band The Quarrymen, little did they know they would form such a close working relationship and would eventually become the most successful recording band in history. Cited as the driving force behind the first ever rock concept album, 'St. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club', McCartney kept creativity at the forefront of everything he did.

The Paul McCartney concert on October 30, 2014 in Greensboro, NC was far and away the best concert I have been to and I have been to many. To see this music legend alone is amazing but to see him and his band, not missing a beat the entire evening, goes beyond amazing. McCartney's voice gave just a little a couple of times but his enery and showmanship was spot on, and and other than those one or two times, his voice was as rich as ever. Make no mistake, the tickets were expensive but you get every penny's worth of your money back in the show you get. He started late, about 45 minutes or so, but then played for almost 3 straight hours and did 2 extended encores. Just amazing. I saw BB King not too long ago and he played about the length of one of McCartney's encores and just droned on and on for the rest of the hour long show, telling stories that I guess he found entertaining but no one else did, as evidenced by a few boo's. Sad and a waste of good money. Don't get me wrong-I still love BB King but it was a sad waste of time and money that night. You will not have any waste seeing Paul McCartney. His renditions of the old Beatles songs were a delightful step back in time, his Wings songs as tight as ever and it all just got better and better. The lighting and background effects on a large wall of lights produced beautiful effects that went from psychadelic to photo's of children, the Beatels, buildings and more. Standing alone and playing an acoustic guitar on a large block that rose about 20 feet above the stage was fantastic, with a full moon, leafless tree and midnight blue sky behind him. And then a large blue rose forming on the front of the block just set the mood for his excellent guitarwork and vocals. When the show ends with Live and Let Die, they pyrotechnics were amazing. The roar of about 16,000 fans combined with fireworks and blasts of flames in perfect unison was the way to hit a finale. And the 2 encores were a perfect end to a perfect night. If you get a chance to see Paul McCarney, go-just go! Worth the money and then some!

PAUL MCCARTNEY is Out There playing for 3 hours. Yes, that is right! Pauly rocked the sold out show for 3 hours. This is the third time I have had the pleasure of seeing him and have seen many other bands but this was the best show I have ever seen. Not only did he rock out with fab Beatle songs like "Helter Skelter" but he also slowed it down with songs like "The Long And Winding Road". He treated us to some great Wings surprises like "Hi Hi Hi" and "Listen To What The Man Said". He also played some great songs from his latest album "New". I have his concert DVD's and he added many different songs to the mix while still keeping in some of the hoped for favorites.

I don't want to give anything away but there are some awesome surprises music wise awaiting the lucky person who will attend one of his shows.

This is a must see show, the material spanned his entire career. He sounded fantastic and he looks great! To all the ladies out there, you will still swoon when you see him! I did! He was funny and charming. One of the most refreshing things was that you could tell he was having an awesome time and you felt like he wanted to stay and play longer as much as you wanted him to stay and play longer! He really shows his fans that he cares about us as much as we care about him.

A very cool and unexpected event: He brought a couple up onstage who had a sign stating that he was ordained and would he marry them. He did a short little ceremony for them stating that it really wasn't legal but it was awesome! I totally wanted to grab the guy next to me (who I didn't know) and yell "We're next!"

I really think this is a show for anyone who really loves music. Paul was changing his guitar's and bass's out even playing one of his original guitars that he used for Sgt.Peppers. Throwing in an awesome tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Go see him if you get the chance. I would go again tonight if I could!

Beatles legend and Wings mainman, Paul McCartney will remain indelibly etched into the annals of time. The humanitarian, bassist and vocalist has traversed six decades, performing in some of the world's biggest and best venues, at historic moments (Band Aid), and unique moments (who ever pegged Macca as a Nirvana member?!), McCartney is a one-of-a-kind performer, fully deserving his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 72-year-old Liverpudlian is entirely at ease on stage – he's essentially lived there for the best portion of his life – his catalogue is studded with megaton hits. Bond theme “Live And Let Die” (replete with flamethrowers when performed at festivals), Stevie Wonder duet “Ebony and Ivory”, “Coming Up” and “Jet” are non-Beatles bangers, but he frequently performs legendary cuts like “Let It Be”, “Back In The USSR” and “Hey Jude” at the end of his sets. How thoroughly immense is it watching a genuine Beatle lead a rousing chorus of “Naa naa naa nanananaaaaa?" Though arguably not as elastic as he once was – don't expect too many backflips – he's still a consummate entertainer. His voice has aged, but he still smashes every note, and his fretwork's not diminished a smidgen. It's rare you get to see a legend in the flesh, but grab any chance to witness McCartney, and you'll not regret it.

Paul McCartney. Just let the legend of that name sink in.

I can honestly, without a doubt say that this was the best concert/show I have ever been to (and I have been to numerous concerts).

Not only did he perform his New songs, but he performed all of his hits from The Beatles to The Wings as well. And I am sure he barely hit the top of the iceberg with what he performed considering his incredible library of number 1s and hundreds upon hundreds of songs.

This 72 year old man performed a 3 hour nonstop performance in clouding pyrotechnics, memoriams to his late and great Beatle counterparts, and 3 encores without breaking a sweat.

He may not be able to hold his notes as long as he did when he was younger but he still sounded amazing nonetheless. I was blown away and so happy that I can tell my kids when I am older that I saw one of The Beatles and it was perfect.

I don't think I have ever recommended a concert as highly as I am for Sir Paul. He is a living legend and am honored to have seen him rocking, running all over the place and putting on a great performance at the age of 72.

YOU MUST GO SEE HIM LIVE. It's an experience well worth the money and his tickets start at 25 for far seats but even so, WORTH IT.

BEST CONCERT OF MY LIFE!! I can say Even one of the most incredible moments of my life. I know what it means being able to see the legend Sir Paul McCartney live and he fullfill all my expectations and way more! His band is absolutely amazing!

But let me tell you the highlight of my year:

I could only afford the cheapest level tickets but I was more than ok with that since i was going to see my idol, then on my way to our seats with my 2 girlfriends, an angel waiting at the top of the stairs ask us to see our tickets and then offer to change them, we were surprised and maybe thinking it was a scam but then she pulled her envelope with 3 FIRST ROW TICKETS!! Best seat in the arena, she identify herself as part of Sir Paul team, and after many thank yous and hugs we went to see the biggest concert.

Thats why he is the absolutely GREATEST rock star of this planet! Beacuse he truly cares about his audiences, i will never in my wildest dreams tought i was going to see able to be on the first row, besides the wonderful drama of the situation his performance was perfect, spotless, he is full of energy and will be forever grateful to him for such an amazing night.

Sir Paul McCartney concert in Munchen was fabulous (Fab four, Fab one :)). The Olympiastadion was full of happy delighted people who were lucky enough to get a ticket. There were Beatles fans along with Wings and Macca fans from many different countries, young and not so young people, all cheerfully singing the everlasting songs and dancing to our beloved music that defined the lives of many of us. The show went on for full 2 hours and 40 minutes, almost 40 songs from all periods, from late 50's to nowadays hits.

For me, it was a once in a lifetime event. I grew up with Beatles and Paul McCartney music, and I have been waiting for a long time for this. It's been a long time since I bought my first Beatles record, even long time since I bought my last one (not to mention I have all Beatles records plus many of their solo albums :)), and the possibility to see one of my heroes live in concert, it was just a dream come true.

It was worth every single penny spent on concert ticket, air ticket, airport transfers, accomodation for couple of days, and of course whole lotta german beer :)

Long live Sir Paul, long live Beatles, forever live their eternal music!

This is the second time I've seen Paul McCartney in the past few years, and yet again he did NOT disappoint. First of all, he played almost 3 hours both times, so you will get plenty of bang for your buck based on the duration of his show alone. Secondly, considering he is 72 years old, he still nails most of the hard notes and delivers a true, genuine performance while frequently interacting with the audience in between songs. Paul is a very personable character that makes the fans feel appreciated and loved as much as we love him. His show started with a few songs that would be recognizable to the casual fan, it delved off into some less "commonly" known songs and a couple cuts from his new album (which also sounded great), then he closed out the show with MANY huge hits and sing-alongs that definitely left the audience wanting more! The pyrotechnics that kicked in during Live and Let Die were unexpected and amazing! I think he also did three encores as well, and I would definitely return to watch any future shows he does in Kansas City!

I don't need to say how amazing this man is and how happy I am to have attended this show. On "Live and let die" there was even pyrotechnics and fireworks. Paul was telling us stories, singing and joking, I think he switched more than 5 guitars during the show and the evening was just overall beautiful.

The venue was terrible, though.. There was no warning about not bringing the bags and we had to pay 15 Euros to leave the bag before getting in - backpacks were not allowed at all (so they basically forced us to give this money as it was too late to go back to hotel and leave it there). Also the security check was useless.. We were drinking in line to warm up and forgot about empty bottle in the pocket.. Guess what? We were able to bring a GLASS BOTTLE through security check, cause we didn't remember and they never checked.. What if I was a psycho? It's glass after all.

As soon as the legend, Sir Paul McCartney himself took the stage, the magic began! He performed for three solid hours, entertaining the crowd with songs written with the Beatles, with Wings, and on his own. I got teary-eyed when he first came into view, as you don't expect to see a legend, at 72 years old, still performing at the top of his game! Paul McCartney still LOVES what he does! Financially, he doesn't need to perform. He does it because he loves to and because he still can, which is impressive! This concert shall be one of my favorites for a long time - and I've attend many concerts in my lifetime. He came out and did two encores, even running around the stage. He never sat down unless poised at the piano. A legend, a master, a must-see!

Wings’ 1972 European Tour

In July 1972 McCartney took his new band on their first professional tour. He chose Europe to avoid the critical spotlight that might have come from the UK or Amercia:

We’re a very new band, you know. And if you go and play in Britain, or America, with a new band, you’re really on the spot. You’ve got to be red hot…Hopefully we’ll tour Britain next year

Wings had by this stage released two very contrasting singles – Give Ireland Back To The Irish (February 25th 1972) and Mary Had A Little Lamb (May 12th 1972). Contrary to popular opinion, Mary Had A Little Lamb had been composed before December 1971, so was not an ironic response to the banned single in support of Irish nationalism.

On the Tour Bus

paul mccartney tour deutschland

The band set off to the south of France on a brightly-coloured Wings Over Europe open-topped tour bus. As McCartney commented:

So we came up with this idea to have an open-deck, you know, upper-deck kind of thing. We’ve got some mattresses up there so we can just cruise along – fantastic – just lie around – get the sun, keep healthy on tour .

Footage of the tour bus shows that the band lived up to the ultimate hippy fantasy – the top deck has laid-out with mattresses and Paul and Denny practised guitar while baby Stella (b. 13th September 1971) rocked from side to side in a wooden cot!

The first leg of the tour covered eight locations – four in France; two in Germany and two in Switzerland. The tour began on the French Riviera before moving north to Paris

paul mccartney tour deutschland

The set list for the tour was very flexible. The tour programme states “songs you may hear”. It seems clear that the band had even practised Junk from the McCartney album! Many of the songs were yet to be recorded. This was not usual practice – the norm at the time was to use a tour as an advertising tool for an album, but there was no new album to promote!

The band had been working at Olympic studio with the producer Glyn Johns, but he eventually fell out with the band in March 1972, complaining that they had “smoked dope and jammed in the studio to little effect”.

However, the band did eventually settle on the following songs for the first leg of the tour:

  • Give Ireland Back to the Irish
  • I Would Only Smile
  • Blue Moon Of Kentucky

Intermission

  • Best Friend
  • I Am Your Singer
  • Say You Don’t Mind
  • Henry’s Blues
  • Seaside Woman
  • Mary Had a Little Lamb
  • Maybe I’m Amazed

            Encore

  • Long Tall Sally

Opening Night

The opening night of the concert took place at the amphitheatre of Châteauvallon near Toulon.

paul mccartney tour deutschland

Wings played to 2,000 people and opened with Bip Bop, the much-maligned nonsense song from the Wild Life album. We don’t have a complete recording of that concert, but we can hear snippets of the song over the top of an interview with the British journalist Michael Wale. Linda was very nervous on the opening night and commented:

I was nervous in the first half… But we had no soundcheck, no rehearsal, no nothing. We had to go on cold. But we were very hot in the second half

We do have a very good audience tape of the third gig on the tour – Arles. This was another performance at an amphitheatre, or Théâtre Antique. McCartney talks to the audience in schoolboy-French, which causes some laughter from the audience. I have set the video here to begin playing at Mumbo , the opening track on Wild Life and the third song of the evening:

Wings performed two concerts in Germany on the 18th and 19th of July; at Munich and then Frankfurt.

The performance at Frankfurt is the better of the two. McCartney introduces I Am Your Singer as “Ich Bin Your Singer”. Uncharacteristically, McCartney flubs his vocals at 44:20:

Switzerland

The first leg of the tour ends with two concerts in Switzerland in Zurich and Montreux. We do have a recording for Montreux but the concert is not wholly successful. The guitars are best with tuning issues and there is a false start at the beginning of Seaside Woman . However, the band are in fine form for the encore – Little Richard’s Long Tall Sally:

It is fascinating to hear Wings at the beginning of their first professional tour. The concerts did not always run to plan and the overall impression is that Wings were more laid-back and freewheeling than perfectly polished.

The band had a break at the end July and started a second leg of the tour. This part of the tour was filmed at various locations and provides the basis for The Bruce McMouse Show . I will cover this second leg next week.

All of this information will be included in my next book, Wings Live! which will be available in 2021 and will cover the whole of the Wings touring era up to the abandoned Japanese Tour of January 1980.

Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm

May 3–august 18, 2024, iris and b. gerald cantor gallery, 5th floor.

#EyesOfTheStorm

As The Beatles captured the hearts of millions, founding member Paul McCartney captured it all on his Pentax camera. Traveling from the UK to New York—just as “the boys” did six decades ago— Eyes of the Storm takes us inside the frenzy of Beatlemania in 1963–64, when the band’s first U.S. tour skyrocketed them to superstardom. More than 250 of McCartney’s photos, recently rediscovered in his archives, reveal his singular vantage point at the center of this whirlwind of attention and adoration. Many of the prints buzz with the electricity of 1960s New York City, which has had a love affair with The Beatles ever since.

Displayed alongside video clips and archival material, the photographs not only showcase McCartney’s artistic versatility but also serve as a personal and historical record. They convey the intensity of The Beatles’ touring schedule, as the Fab Four were swept from concerts to hotels to the road with rabid fans and paparazzi at their heels. The images also evoke an affectionate family album, picturing McCartney and bandmates John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr at a time when their lives were changing irrevocably. See through the “eyes of the storm,” as McCartney describes his unique perspective on this extraordinary period, and relive a musical legend’s meteoric rise.

This exhibition is included in general admission .

Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm has been organized by the National Portrait Gallery, London, England, in collaboration with Paul McCartney. Paul McCartney finally responds to fan’s declaration of love after 60 years

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Paul McCartney has responded to a fan’s declaration of love that was made six decades ago.

The Beatles singer-songwriter , 81, shared his reply in a video message on Instagram.

At the start of the video, a clip from is played, in which a woman who calls herself Adrienne is interview by a journalist ahead of the band’s first US tour in 1963 .

“Paul McCartney if you are listening, Adrienne from Brooklyn loves you with all her heart,” says the woman.

McCartney then addressed the fan, speaking into the camera.

“Hey Adrienne, it’s Paul,” he says. “Listen, I saw your video. I’m in Brooklyn now. I’m in New York. I finally got here. We got an exhibition, a photo exhibition. Come along and see it!”

He then points down the lens with his finger, smiling.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Paul McCartney (@paulmccartney)

A new exhibition, Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm, is currently running at the Brooklyn museum until 18 October. The show contains photographs taken by the Beatle documenting the band’s first US trip.

In a caption alongside the video, he wrote: “And Adrienne from Brooklyn if you are listening, Paul McCartney from Liverpool loves you too.”

Back in March, McCartney revealed how his late bandmate John Lennon had convinced him to keep one of the now-famous lyrics in his classic song “Hey Jude”.

He delivered the anecdote in an episode of his podcast, Paul McCartney: A Life in Lyrics , a series in which the Wings musician delves into the backstories behind some of his most famous works.

“‘The movement you need is on your shoulder.’ Now, I thought that was just me blocking in,” McCartney said.

“When I played it for John and [Yoko Ono] in my music room on my psychedelic piano – I’m sitting facing this way and they’re standing behind me, almost on my shoulder and they’re listening.”

McCartney said he explained that he intended to replace the line, “The movement you need is on your shoulder”, until Lennon objected.

“I turn around to John, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll change that,’” McCartney said. “And he looked at me and said, ‘You won’t, you know? It’s the best line, innit?’”

McCartney also recently shared the touching true story behind the composition “My Valentine” .

He wrote the song for his wife Nancy Shevell. The pair met in 2007, and got married in 2011. “My Valentine” featured on McCartney’s 2012 album Kisses on the Bottom.
