Quartz Mines In India: An Overview Of Quartz Resources And Reserves

  • Quartz Applications & Uses In Different Industries
  • Quartz Mines In India: An…

Silica is one of the most widely distributed materials in the earth’s crust. Quartz ( a crystalline variety of silica) is mostly silica(Si02), However with the presence of certain impurities. Quartz is the most abundant mineral found on earth’s surface.

Quartz, Quartz crystals, Silica sand, Quartzite are also collectively described as Silica minerals. This is usually because all these commodities are crystalline silicon dioxide with noticeable differences in their crystalline structure as well as the presence of traces of impurities.

Quartz has a wide variety of applications. Quartz crystals are used in making gemstones and jewelry, whereas quartz sand is used in making glasses and bricks. Quartz is also used in the manufacture of quartz resonators. These resonators are utilized as high-performance resonators and can be found in filters and oscillators.

Most of the data present in this article has been taken from reports released by the Indian Bureau of Mines .

Quartz Varieties

Quartz exists in several varieties including:

1) Crystalline or Macro Crystalline Varieties

These varieties consist of crystals that are visible to the human eye. Crystal Quartz is mostly used as a gemstone or for making jewelry. Quartz crystals, although naturally colorless, can also be of different colors according to the presence of impurities.

The essential members of the crystalline quartz include the Aventurine Quartz, Amethyst, Eisenkiesel,  vein quartz, milky quartz, ferruginous quartz, Cat’s eye, Rock crystal. Other members of the crystalline varieties of quartz include the transparent quartz, Rose quartz.

According to IBM, massive crystalline quartz in the form of veins is present in almost all the states of the country.

2) Cryptocrystalline Varieties or Micro Crystalline Varieties

Although some of the experts differentiate in both the cryptocrystalline and microcrystalline varieties of quartz, the Indian Bureau of Mines has grouped them in the same category. These varieties consist of tiny crystal grains that are not visible to the human eye but can be seen with an optical microscope.

The Cryptocrystalline varieties include Chalcedony, agate, jasper, onyx, flint, and chert.

According to IBM, The Cryptocrystalline varieties are reported to be prevalent in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Punjab.

Agate is, however, predominant in Ratnapura, Rajpipla, and further west between Tapi and Narmada rivers in Bharuch district, Gujarat, where it exists as pebbles in different sizes related to clay and are washed down by the flow of the river.

Other occurrences of economic importance are reported in Amravati, Aurangabad, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Nashik, and Pune district of Maharashtra; beds of Krishna and Godavari rivers in Andhra Pradesh; Dumka district in Jharkhand; Dhar, Mandsaur, Sihore, and Shahdol districts in Madhya Pradesh; and Kachchh district of Gujarat.

3) Clastic or Granular Varieties

These varieties mainly include quartz sand, silica sand, sandstone as well as quartzite.

Silica sand usually consists of at least 95% silica, mostly in the form of quartz. The sand is processed industrially to remove impurities and increase the amount of silica according to the applications in different industries. Example: Glass is one of the industry which requires a very high amount of silica in silica sand, almost 100%. The grain size for silica sand usually varies from 0.5-1 mm. These grains are finer than those found in Quartz sand.

The rocks formed from silica sand are generally referred to as Quartzite.

Quartz sand has applications in lots of different industries such as the glass industry, chemical industry, brick manufacturing, ceramic industry, paint industry, etc.

According to IBM, these varieties are present in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, etc. The silica sand gotten from the Naini area in the Allahabad district and Uttar Pradesh is of very high quality.

Reserve And Resources Of Quartz, Silica Sand & Quartzite

According to the NMI database, the total reserve/resources of quartz and silica sand in the country is projected to be around 3,907.95 million tonnes. Out of this, 647.53 million tonnes (17%) are placed under the reserved category. Another 3,260.42 million tonnes (83%) are placed under the remaining resources category.

Tab India responding to quartz market demand

Remaining a global producer of natural stone, tab india expands its operation to offer a “new age” quartz with the same high level of quality and service as its natural stone products to its customers.

“New Age” quartz, TabQuartz

As a proponent of natural stone and sustainability, Tab India still found it necessary to recognize the growing trend of quartz surfacing. Brothers Amit and Sumit Gupta established the stone operation in 1997, and experienced quick success. Today, the company has grown to own more than 12 stone quarries – in numerous varieties – and branded its name in the stone industry worldwide. But as the industry and market trends continue to evolve over time, Tab India made the decision to grow with it by opening a new factory for TabQuartz in the beginning of 2018.

“TabQuartz started commercial production in January 2018 after running a series of trials and tests on various colors, patterns, polish techniques and finishes,” explained the Gupta brothers. “Tab has consistently and continuously adapted to the market dynamics. Getting into quartz production was an organic step forward, expanding our existing footprint in the natural stone and surfaces industry.”

According to the Gupta brothers, the ultimate decision to open the quartz plant came from the pressure and demands of Tab’s distributors worldwide to supply quartz slabs and cut-to-size in quartz, of the same quality levels as its natural stone offering. “We re-engineered the whole process of quartz production to ensure that the final product could stand the test of Tab’s polish/finish quality precision which we are known for in the stone industry,” they said. “The addition of quartz to the product range also makes Tab a unique one-stop shop for natural stone and quartz. We give the option to our customers to be able to mix their granite and quartz orders, if need be, as the granite and quartz plants are located on the same campus in South India. It also helps that India houses some of the best quality reserves of natural quartz material in very high deposits, which is in line with our policy of sourcing only the best raw materials.”

DEVELOPING A “NEW AGE” QUARTZ

Tab has designed and developed a technology which has resulted in the evolution of normal quartz slabs to a “New Age” quartz, the Gupta brothers explained. “Tab re-engineered the production process using very high-quality quartz and specialty resins suitable only for production of low VOC quartz — ensuring very low-resin inside the slabs, pressed on a highly efficient and strong vibro-vacuum press,” they said. “The unique combination of inputs gives the surface a new construction definition. All the colors remain in the development, testing and prototype stage until they are proven fit for commercial production. The surface finish and the density thus achieved makes TabQuartz a New Age quartz.”

The company built a state-of-the-art laboratory two years before the commencement of the commercial production. “This was done with the plan to ensure that there would be a vast range of colors ready to go into production as soon as the machines were installed,” said the Gupta brothers. “Tab developed more than 300 colors and patterns successfully because of this early investment into the lab and is now releasing new designs and patterns regularly. The first offering that we came out with in the market was for 24 colors to keep the introduction simple for our customers, which was increased to 36 in three months, after adding 12 more colors; the same will keep getting added with the new trends as the market demands and allows. We do not want to come in and disrupt the market immediately, but the lab and the lab technicians are primed and ready to keep coming up with newer and better looks. Backed by the fully automatic molding and polishing process machines, making new colors has been made easier.”

TabQuartz is part of the 35-acre campus, which also houses the natural stone slab, tile and cut-to-size facilities in a green campus, built with solar-power generation, rainwater harvesting, 100% water recycling and many other carbon footprint reducing efforts. The quartz production facility has a covered constructed area of 150,000 square feet and another 50,000 square feet of supporting and ancillary functions. “The line is capable of producing up to 250 slabs per day in thicknesses of 15/20/30 mm,” said the Gupta brothers. “We are currently producing 200 slabs a day, equivalent to about 100 standard containers capacity per month. With the addition of the second production line soon, this capacity will double. The existing infrastructure/facility has been built keeping this in mind for expansion.”

Tab India’s primary markets remain the same as its natural stone markets, which are North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Asia Pacific. “The guiding philosophy for Tab has always been to produce goods and provide services of the highest standard, and we have done the same for all of the products and services that we offer, including TabQuartz,” said the Gupta brothers. “We have established a brand and value for our company and its products in the market, a legacy that we have to carry forward with offering quartz of the highest possible quality and value than has been done so far.”

Navigating Travel Restrictions in Flagstaff, AZ: What You Need to Know

As the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries have implemented various travel restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. India, being one of the most populous countries in the world, has also put in place certain quarantine and testing requirements for incoming visitors.

Upon arrival in India, it is mandatory for all international passengers to undergo thermal screening. This involves a temperature check with a non-contact infrared thermometer to detect any potential fever, which is one of the common symptoms of COVID-19. If a passenger is found to have a high body temperature, they will be further tested for the virus through a RT-PCR test.

In addition to thermal screening, individuals arriving in India need to fill in a self-declaration form, providing personal details and information about their travel history. This form serves as an important tool for contact tracing and monitoring the movement of individuals in case there is a need for further investigation.

Quarantine requirements in India may vary depending on the state or union territory of arrival. Some states require all incoming passengers to undergo home quarantine for a certain duration, typically 7 to 14 days. During this period, individuals are expected to stay at their own residences and avoid any social interactions to prevent the potential spread of the virus. Regular check-ins and monitoring may be conducted by local health authorities to ensure compliance with the quarantine rules.

On the other hand, certain states have introduced institutional quarantine for specific categories of travelers. This involves staying in government-designated facilities, such as hotels or quarantine centers, for a specified period. The cost of institutional quarantine is generally borne by the traveler themselves.

It is worth noting that the quarantine requirements and testing protocols in India are subject to change based on the evolving situation of the pandemic. Therefore, it is essential for travelers to stay updated with the latest information provided by the Indian government or local health authorities before planning their trip.

Examples of quarantine and testing requirements upon arrival in India:

  • Mr. Smith, a British citizen, arrives at Mumbai International Airport. As part of the arrival process, he undergoes thermal screening and is found to have a normal body temperature. He fills in the self-declaration form and is permitted to proceed to his final destination without any quarantine requirements.
  • Ms. Rodriguez, an Indian national returning from the United States, lands in Delhi. She also undergoes thermal screening and self-declaration. However, since Delhi has a mandatory institutional quarantine policy for returning residents, she is directed to a government-designated hotel for a 7-day quarantine period. Ms. Rodriguez bears the cost of the hotel stay.

In conclusion, there are quarantine and testing requirements upon arrival in India to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission. These requirements vary depending on the state of arrival and may include thermal screening, self-declaration form, and either home or institutional quarantine. Travelers should stay informed about the latest guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe entry into the country.

India has implemented travel restrictions in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These restrictions are put in place to control the spread of the virus and protect public health. Failure to comply with these restrictions can result in various penalties and consequences.

One potential penalty for not following the travel restrictions in India is a fine. The government has set fines for violations such as not wearing a mask, not maintaining social distancing, or not following quarantine guidelines. These fines can be quite hefty and can range from a few hundred rupees to several thousand rupees, depending on the severity of the violation.

In addition to fines, there may also be legal consequences for not following the travel restrictions. This is especially true if their actions lead to the spread of the virus or endanger the lives of others.

Not following the travel restrictions can also have social consequences. In a society where public health and safety are of top priority, individuals who do not adhere to guidelines and restrictions may face social stigma and be seen as irresponsible or careless. This can result in strained relationships, loss of trust, and potential isolation from the community.

Furthermore, not following the travel restrictions can have serious health consequences for the individual and those around them. The COVID-19 virus is highly contagious, and by not following the restrictions, individuals increase their chances of contracting the virus and spreading it to others. This can lead to serious illness, hospitalization, or even death for vulnerable individuals.

To avoid these penalties and consequences, it is crucial to strictly adhere to the travel restrictions in India. This includes wearing masks, practicing social distancing, following quarantine guidelines, and staying updated with the latest guidelines and regulations issued by the government, health authorities, and local authorities.

In conclusion, not following the travel restrictions in India can result in various penalties and consequences. These include fines, legal consequences, social stigma, and health risks. It is important for individuals to understand the importance of these restrictions and comply with them to protect public health and prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 virus. Compliance with the restrictions is not only a legal requirement but also a moral responsibility towards oneself and the community.

However, they may be subject to certain quarantine and testing requirements upon arrival. These requirements may vary depending on the state or city the traveler is entering. For example, some states may require a negative COVID-19 test report to be provided upon arrival, while others may require a period of quarantine.

Apart from citizens and residents, there are certain other categories of travelers who may be exempted from the travel restrictions. These include diplomats, members of international organizations, and individuals who hold official or diplomatic passports. These individuals are granted special privileges and are allowed to travel to India even during the travel restrictions.

Another category of travelers who may be exempted from the travel restrictions are those traveling for emergency purposes. This includes individuals who need to travel for medical emergencies, funerals, or other urgent reasons. They are allowed to enter the country subject to providing necessary documentation or proof of the emergency situation.

It is important to note that the exemptions and exceptions to the travel restrictions may change periodically based on the evolving situation of the pandemic. Travelers are advised to check the latest guidelines and regulations before planning their travel.

To summarize, while India has implemented travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are certain exceptions or exemptions for certain categories of travelers. WHAT IS QUARTZ?

Quartz has always been a mineral that has attracted attention from the earliest of times; The term "quartz" itself is derived from the German word "Quarz," which ultimately corresponds to the Czech term tvrdý ("hard"). The name quartz was first used by Georgius Agricola, German Humanist scholar, mineralogist, and metallurgist, in 1530.

Silicon (Si) does not occur in a free state in nature, but its compounds are extraordinarily abundant and constitute about 28 percent of the Earth's crust.  The oxide quartz and the 'Great Group' of silicates are the most important rock-forming minerals. Silica (SiO2) occurs in the form of Quartz (crystalline form), chalcedony, agate, flint, and jasper (cryptocrystalline form), and opal (the hydrous form; Quartz is the second most abundant mineral among the Earth's crust after feldspar.  Quartz commonly occurs in nearly all acid igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. Of all non-metallic minerals, Quartz or silica has the most diversified use because of its common occurrence worldwide, distinctive physical characteristics such as hardness, chemical, heat resistance, and low price. One of the first industries to use Quartz or silica sand was the glass industry. At least 4,000 years ago, long before glassmakers smelted the iron, glass-making was already a known craft.

Quartz is colorless, transparent, and resistant to weathering and alterations. Devoid of cleavage, it breaks with irregular fracture. The luster is vitreous and occasionally resinous. Hardness is seven on Moh's scale, and specific gravity is about 2.65. Quartz crystals of pure, untwined, clear, and transparent varieties possess piezoelectric properties.

Quartz is an oxide of silicon. It is one of the common minerals in the Earth's crust, forming a greater part of sandstone and quartzite and sand of the seashore and river valleys. It is also found in nature as a hydrothermal deposit in veins and fissures in all types of acid igneous rocks. The range of Quartz found naturally is extensive - this includes a pure form of the mineral such as Rock Crystal and Vein Quartz which are primarily associated with acid igneous bodies. The secondary or residual products consist of the consolidated rocks such as quartzites, the metamorphosed form, and the sandstones, the sedimentary form.  All of our mines have pure vein-quartz associated with the pegmatites.

In India, Quartz deposits occur primarily in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu – these three states contribute to about 64% of India's total production.  Promoters of 'India Quartz' owns and operates mines in all these states, making us position uniquely for wide range of industrial customers.

9 Best Crystals for Safe Travel – Powerful Gemstones for Protection When Travelling

By Mary Ancillette | February 20, 2023

A guide to the best crystals for safe travel

Do you get tense or nervous when travelling? Whether you’re worried others may cause an accident, or find the bustle of busy airports and stations overwhelming, these nine crystals can promote safe travel.

Travelling can be a mind expanding experience – but that doesn’t mean it’s stress-free.

Busy airports, delays and road congestion make any journey difficult. Many people also feel anxious about their safety, particularly when flying or visiting foreign countries.

The good news is that healing crystals can promote safe and enjoyable travel. If you have a fear of flying, feel outside your comfort zone, or are just home sick, these nine crystals and gemstones may help.

Quick Navigation

Which are the Best Crystals & Gem Stones for Travelling?

Amethyst

1. Amethyst (Stone of Spirituality, Contentment and Meditation)

Colour : Purple to Lavender Chakra : Crown and Third Eye Origin : USA, Mexico, Canada, Russia, India, Sri Lanka, Britain, Brazil, Uruguay, Siberia, Africa

Amethyst has traditionally been used for protecting travellers against thieves. But it has other attributes that make it a crystal to take on your next journey.

With its soothing energy and calming influence, amethyst helps you find a balance between common sense and an easy-going attitude when travelling. This can reduce anxiety when making a decision, so you have a more pleasant and safe journey.

Besides soothing anxieties, amethyst’s protective nature promotes a peaceful journey whilst shielding you against negative energies.

Tip : Do you often feel anxious even when you’re not travelling? If so, take a look at the best healing crystals for anxiety by  clicking here .

Black Tourmaline

2. Black Tourmaline

Colour : Black Chakra : Root Origin : Brazil, Zimbabwe, Australia, USA, Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

Black tourmaline is the master for protection when travelling.

Its grounding properties can protect against the negative energies of frustrated drivers and fellow travellers in airports. In fact, it’s one of the best all-round crystals for protection. You may also find it useful in other crowded environments, such as tourist attractions or train stations.

Aside from its energetic shielding, black tourmaline can promote a more positive and laid back approach when travelling. If you need a bear hug of reassurance, it’s a great crystal to choose.

Tip for Using Black Tourmaline: Carry or wear black tourmaline on the left-hand side of your body, as it’s believed energy enters your aura on the left.

Malachite

3. Malachite (Stone of Transformation)

Colour : Green Chakra : Heart and Throat Origin : Romania, Zambia, Russia, Germany, Middle East, Australia

Malachite is the Guardian Stone for Travellers. It protects against accidents and is a must have for your collection when travelling.

This crystal’s immense power of transformation encourages you to take responsibilities for your actions. This allows the “ego” to take a back seat, making for a safer journey.

If you’re fearful when flying, suffer from vertigo or have a deep-seated dread of congested highways, Malachite’s protective nature will calm you and surround you with loving energy. These range of benefits make it one of the best stones for travel.

But be mindful: should it start to crumble it’s said that danger is imminent!

Moonstone

4. Moonstone (Stone of New Beginnings)

Colour : White, Cream, Yellow Milky Sheen Chakra : Crown Origin : Sri Lanka, India, Australia, USA

Moonstone is a lovely healing stone if you’re travelling, as it’s thought to bring luck and joy to your adventures. It’s also useful for soothing motion sickness and can ease feelings of being home sick when abroad or away for long periods.

With its links to the moon and reputation for being a traveller’s stone, moonstone is said to lighten pathways and protect you when travelling at night. It’s also an excellent stone for protecting against road rage, accidents over water and easing symptoms of jet lag.

Yellow Jasper

5. Yellow Jasper (Supreme Nurturer)

Colour : Yellow Chakra : Solar Plexus Origin : India, Russia, Australia, Venezuela, USA, Brazil, Uruguay, South Africa

Yellow jasper is a talisman for protection when travelling both physically or spiritually.

It stimulates and balances the solar plexus , which reduces the stress and anxieties that can sometimes occur when travelling. So, if you’re out of your comfort zone or have lost your sense of direction, yellow jasper can ground you and give a welcome boost to confidence levels.

Yellow jasper is also a sunny stone of happiness. Take it in your suitcase for protection and to enhance mental clarity and positive energy. It can also help ease motion sickness.

Tiger's Eye

6. Tiger’s Eye (Stone of the Mind)

Colour : Brown, Yellow, Red Chakra : Solar Plexus, Root Origin : Mexico, USA, South Africa, Australia, India, Brazil, Thailand

Tiger’s eye has a myriad of healing properties that make it a good crystal to choose when travelling.

Combining the earth and sun energy, this gemstone can keep you grounded whilst promoting enthusiasm for exploring new places.

It’s also a stone that promotes courage, releases fear, protects against negativity and provides an overall sense of mindfulness, which are all beneficial when travelling.

Smoky Quartz

7. Smoky Quartz (Stone of Cooperation)

Colour : Light to Dark Smokey Grey/Brown Chakra : Root Origin : Worldwide

Smoky quartz is a wonderful crystal for absorbing negative energy. It’ll help relieve tension and can protect you around erratic drivers or stressed travellers.

It’s also a peace token. So, if you’re feeling unsure of your surroundings or need more clarity, holding smoky quartz brings a calming sense of awareness.

As well as physical travel, smoky quartz can boost intuition during spiritual travel.

Tip for Using Smoky Quartz:  Smoky quartz with amethyst makes a powerful tool for travelling safely.

Aquamarine

8. Aquamarine (Stone of Courage and Protection)

Colour : Pale Blue/Green Chakra : Throat Origin : Brazil, Madagascar, USA, Russia, Mexico, India, Afghanistan, Mozambique

Aquamarine’s lovely soothing energy makes it a talisman of good luck for sailors and those travelling on or over water.

Ancient folklore says Aquamarine was the treasure of mermaids. Coming from the Latin Aqua Marinus, meaning ‘water of the sea,’ and combined with it being a Stone of Courage and Protection, this is a wonderful gemstone to travel with.

Aquamarine can also bring a sense of joy to your travels, alleviate stress, calm over-wrought emotions and help avoid delays.

Tip : Want to learn more about using crystals to increase courage? Click here .

Rose Quartz

9. Rose Quartz (Stone of Unconditional Love)

Colour : Pink Chakra : Heart Origin : USA, Japan, India, Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa, Argentina, Mexico

Rose quartz is the crystal of love. So, can you imagine how self-love can enhance your experience when you travel?

By imbuing yourself with compassion and love, you’re tuning into the best version you can be. This amplifies positivity and enhances how you react to situations.

Travelling alone in unfamiliar places can be unnerving. But rose quartz’ loving properties can reduce home sickness, attract positive energies and maybe even protect against accidents.

BONUS CRYSTAL: Shungite (Stone of Life & Winner of Nobel Peace Prize 1996)

Shungite

If you want a crystal for airports, this is the one!

Shungite, with its natural fullerene (carbon) content, can shield against electromagnetic fields emitted by mobile phones, laptops and security scanners in airports.

Tip for Using Shungite: Due to its powerful antioxidant properties and purifying ability, take a shungite elixir with you when travelling. You can also place shungite stickers on the backs of your phone, and shungite pyramids by computers and routers.

Other Tips for Using Crystals and Stones for Safe Travel

The energetic vibrations of the above crystals for travel can help protect you from erratic behaviours and negative energies. They can also bring calmness and clarity.

Here are a few ways to get the most from these crystals:

  • Wearing crystals in jewellery, such as rings, bracelets and necklaces, is an easy way to travel with them.
  • Place crystals in your luggage, handbag, purse or pocket to minimise negative influences on journeys.
  • Make a travel pouch with several different crystals. Place it in your bag or suitcase to benefit wherever you go.
  • If you’re staying in a hotel, lay a crystal grid around your bed or place your favourite crystals on the bedside table whilst you sleep.
  • Make a crystal cleansing spray before you travel so you can cleanse any stagnant energies in cars, hotel rooms, airplanes or train carriages.
  • Don’t worry about choosing smaller stones that take up less space. This won’t affect the crystal’s energetic properties.

Note: While crystals for travel can protect against negative energies, don’t rely on them for travel safety. Proper planning, researching your destination, and using common sense are vital.

Angel Grotto Angel Icon

Which Angels are Associated With Travel?

St Christopher is the Patron Saint of Travel. Some people like to protect themselves by carrying a St Christopher medal with them to invoke a blessing. However, you can also call upon the angels to protect you.

The ones I most associate with safe travel are:

  • Archangel Michael   (Archangel of Safe Travel)  – Archangel Michael releases fear and offers protection when travelling.
  • Archangel Raphael (Patron of Travelling)  – Archangel Raphael has a green aura and is linked to the healing crystal of malachite.

Modern transport has made travel more accessible, safe and enjoyable. But it’s also caused a culture of short-tempers, frustrating queues and negative energies.

These nine crystals, with their links to safe and enjoyable travel, ensure you stay grounded and protected from negative energy. They can also allow your common sense and intuition to guide you.

My favourite crystal for safe travel is malachite. It’s the Guardian Stone for Travellers and gives the sense of protection from accidents whilst empowering me to take responsibility for my actions.

Good Morning,

Is it safe to pair malachite with these other crystals? Thank you, Maria

Yes, malachite is pretty versatile. It works well with copper-based crystals, other green crystals or earth element stones, but can be paired with any of these “Safe Travel” crystals. Don’t use it in elixirs though.

I found your site by accident (or maybe the crystals pointed me to you) I am travelling to Canada on my own so require protection. I asked the crystals that I already had but they did not seem happy – as I was in town I went to a crystal shop (used before) for a piece of Malachite, while there two more crystals made themselves known to me so I purchased them and brought them home. I now feel that I can travel more easily and be less nervous.

On my return I will be coming back to your page to read and digest more information

Hi Rachel, thank you for your comment and I’m glad this article was helpful to you. Have a great time!

4 travel secrets of the mega-rich, from a vacation planner for billionaires

thumbnail

Imagine closing down Versailles to enjoy a private candlelit dinner.

That's the reality for the ultra rich, and people like Jaclyn Sienna India make it happen.

India is the founder of a Sienna Charles , a members-only travel agency that caters to wealthy clients who take million-dollar trips around the world. India recently discussed her work and billionaire clientele in a Q&A with The Cut .

Her company's services include a $75,000 annual tier for unlimited travel and dining reservations, and a $150,000 yearly option to tack on a "lifestyle" component. That includes "arranging spa appointments, recruiting house staff, helping clients build a home gym, whatever they need," India told The Cut.

She shared some of the travel secrets of her unthinkably wealthy clients:

1. Penthouse suites are out, yachts are in

Most of India's clients are 55- to 75-year-old ex-finance workers in New York City, but in recent years, she's seen more interest from people in Dallas and Los Angeles who work in finance or film. Her newest clientele are tech VIPs in their 40s and 50s.

India's typical clients are no stranger to booking hotel suites for $30,000 a night, but it's becoming more passe.

The mega-rich want their accommodations loaded up with their preferred foods, fancy water and drinks as well as other, more-specific requests (a space with seven dog beds, for instance), but training hotel staff on everything within a few days is inefficient.

The trendier thing to do is stay at a villa or yacht owned and rented out by billionaires.

"[The owner] has customized everything, picked his staff, and trained them for expectations that are otherworldly," India said. All of that means her clients can "relax deeply because the staff knows how to deliver excellence every minute."

2. They don't deal with luggage

Unlike the rest of us, the rich aren't worried about airline baggage fees. Then again, they're not schlepping their suitcases at all.

Instead, they ship it, India said: "Just throw a FedEx label on it, and it arrives at your destination the next day."

3. They're not dining out at fancy restaurants

Though Sienna Charles staffers know all the best restaurants and how to get impossible reservations, India says many of her clients don't eat out when they travel.

That's what their private chefs are for, she says.

The chefs travel with clients and help maintain their diet and medical or health goals, India said. She gave an example of one client who traveled to San Francisco for two weeks, brought his chef and only ate out once.

"He has all the money in the world, but he didn't want to go to Michelin-star restaurants," India told The Cut. "A lot of our clients work really, really hard, and it's important for them to have consistency and routine wherever they go."

4. They want unique experiences

If you want to rub shoulders with a billionaire this summer, India said they're increasingly trading the typical hotspots (think: Capri) for more "unique experiences."

"They're taking the yacht around Sardinia or going to smaller islands in Sicily," she said.

Sometimes her clients have specific travel requests, like wanting to take a family trip to Rome in a specific timeframe. More often than not, they're pretty general about their vision and want help with the specific details.

One recent tech billionaire "told me they want to go to Europe in August for nine days, just the couple, no kids," India said. "And that's all they said. This is pretty common."

As for those with more modest means, India's best advice is to "normal" people is to steer away from places where celebrities and influencers abound. Or, at least, recognize that you're unlikely to get a similar A-lister experience if you go.

For example, she said, "The Hamptons are good if you stay at somebody's house and lay out at their pool and you have beach access. But if you go to be a lookie-loo and you're staying at a hotel and the traffic sucks and you can't get into a restaurant because nobody knows who you are, then that's probably not the best destination."

15 Best Places to Visit in India, According to Travel Experts

F rom the alpine meadows of Kashmir to the palm-fringed beaches of Goa, these are some of the subcontinent’s most enchanting destinations.

As a former longtime Delhiite and frequent traveler to India, people often ask me what the country is like. I never know how to respond, for trying to sum up a nation as vast and diverse as India feels impossible. So, instead, I asked a few experts for their insights.

“If you visit India, you feel you have visited several countries, as every part is different,” says Mohd Shafi Billo, an inbound tour operator who specializes in helping international travelers plan their trips to the country. “It’s an exceptional destination, thanks to its culture, history, and inclusiveness of different people from different faiths, and it has everything to offer, from forts to mausoleums, wildlife tours to mountain adventures.”

Shoba Rudra, founder and partner at hospitality consultancy Rare India , agrees. “The country is living a dynamic moment in history, ever-changing,” she says. “What's constant, however, is the vibrant culture lived through its festivals, cuisine, heritage, crafts, and performing arts.”

While it would take years to see it all, India is an approachable destination — if you can narrow things down. With that in mind, here are 15 of the best places to get you started on your sojourn to the subcontinent.

Stretching along the southernmost part of India’s Malabar Coast, the tropical state of Kerala entices visitors with its marshy backwaters, which most people visit on overnight houseboat adventures. These popular cruises “showcase lush landscapes and peaceful villages, and [give visitors] a glimpse into local life amid tranquil waters and picturesque surroundings,” says Billo. While the backwaters are a star attraction, the state offers much more to explore, from the tea plantations of Munnar, known for its cool climate and seemingly endless rolling hills, to the historic city of Kochi, celebrated in equal measure for its rich coastal history and contemporary art scene . The beaches aren’t too shabby, either. “North Kerala is also famous, as the Malabar Coast is where the spice trade flourished,” says Rudra. “The coastal area is picturesque and this region is still unexplored.”

On the opposite end of the country from Kerala, Kashmir offers entirely different — but equally captivating — landscapes. With its alpine climate, evergreen trees, and snowy winters, Kashmir is often likened to a mini Switzerland . Famed 13th-century Sufi poet Amir Khusrau once proclaimed in Farsi, “If there is a paradise on earth, it is this,” and he may have been onto something. At the heart of it all is Srinagar, Kashmir’s capital city, which is known for its elegant gardens and watery centerpiece, Dal Lake. “Highlights include staying on a houseboat or taking a shikara [traditional Kashmiri boat] ride,” says Billo, who hails from the area. Don't leave without indulging in wazwan , an opulent, meat-heavy feast that can feature up to three dozen dishes in one sitting.

Occupying a high-altitude plateau in the northernmost reaches of India, Ladakh is characterized by otherworldly landscapes and big skies, punctuated by palatial stupas and monasteries. Many visitors come to Ladakh’s capital, Leh, during the short summer tourist season, but this surreal region offers plenty more to experience beyond the city. Billo suggests visiting the Nubra Valley, an isolated part of the old Silk Road that’s only accessible by crossing Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable passes. “The valley offers a glimpse into Ladakh's unique geography and cultural diversity with monasteries, quaint villages, and apricot orchards,” says Billo. The region is also rich with unusual wildlife, from elusive snow leopards to the scaled-down Bactrian camels that originated in the steppes of Central Asia.

Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

On the banks of the sacred Ganges River, the holy city of Rishikesh has held a place in the hearts of spiritually minded travelers — both from India and abroad — for generations. It’s the self-proclaimed “yoga capital of the world,” with a mix of traditional ashrams (spiritual rest houses) that cater largely to Hindu pilgrims and yoga centers that attract international visitors with teacher-training courses and meditation retreats. If you’re not into yoga, you’ll still find plenty to do here. Popular activities include visiting the ruins of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram (dubbed the Beatles Ashram in honor of its most famous former residents) to whitewater rafting adventures on the mighty Ganges. It’s also a great place for a wellness getaway, and nearby Ananda in the Himalayas was voted one of Travel + Leisure readers' favorite international spas in 2023.

Auroville, Tamil Nadu

If you’re looking for a place that’s unlike anywhere else in India — or, frankly, the world — head to the intentional community of Auroville in South India. This UNESCO-recognized global township was founded in the 1960s with the goal of "realizing human unity," beyond the illusory divisions of creed or nationality, and it's home to generations of residents from around the world. Many visitors come for an hour or two, just long enough to view Auroville’s spiritual center — the golden, dome-shaped Matrimandir . However, it’s worth sticking around a bit longer to get a feel for what the community is about. As Akash Kapur, who grew up in Auroville and authored " Better to Have Gone " and " India Becoming ," puts it: "Come to Auroville if you're interested in alternative societies, sustainable living, or spirituality, but try not to just drop in for a few hours (as many do), and instead spend some time here, really getting to know the people and their work. The community rewards sustained immersion."

Andaman Islands

Although most people associate the crystalline waters of the Andaman Sea with Thai island getaways, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in this tropical region are under Indian control. This little stretch of paradise is full of gorgeous shorelines, but most visitors devote their vacations to the island of Swaraj Dweep (formerly known as Havelock). The most popular beach on the island is Radhanagar Beach , which offers just over a mile of white sand sandwiched between tropical jungle and warm, transparent waters. Getting to this remote island requires a bit of gumption: You'll need to fly from the Indian mainland to Port Blair on South Andaman Island, then catch a ferry or charter a seaplane for the final stretch. While visitors are welcome on many islands in the chain, a few — including secluded North Sentinel Island — are off-limits.

While many travelers see India’s capital as a jumping-off point for visiting further-afield destinations, it’s worth sticking around for a while to truly appreciate what Delhi has to offer. There’s certainly never a dull moment in this busy metropolis, whether you’re shopping for handicrafts at one of its numerous markets or learning about medieval and Mughal history at one of its three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Humayun's Tomb, Qutb Minar, and Red Fort. Although Delhi is undeniably rambunctious, it also has a quieter, more peaceful side that you can find amidst the trees and 15th-century tombs of Central Delhi’s Lodi Gardens or in the quiet interiors of the Baháʼí Lotus Temple.

Taj Mahal, Agra, Uttar Pradesh

Many travelers to India put the 17th-century Taj Mahal at the top of their list. This white marble mausoleum is easily India’s most recognizable structure — and it’s one of the New Seven Wonders of the World . This popular attraction also has a romantic backstory. “This iconic symbol of love is renowned for its architectural beauty, intricate marble work, and the captivating story behind its creation by emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal,” notes Billo. The bodies of the emperor and his wife remain interred in the Taj to this day.

Jaipur. Rajasthan

The capital of Rajasthan and one-third of North India’s popular Golden Triangle tourist route (which also includes Agra and Delhi), Jaipur is a must-visit for those who love architecture and shopping. “The Pink City, as it's nicknamed, offers a rich cultural heritage, stunning [landmarks] like Amber Fort, vibrant bazaars, and intricate handicrafts,” says Billo. Many of Jaipur's key attractions are found in the historic walled part of the city, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. Highlights include Jantar Mantar (a collection of oversized — and fully functional — astronomical instruments dating to the 17th century) and Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds, a honeycomb-shaped palace designed with tiny windows that allowed air to flow freely through its interior.

Jodhpur, Rajasthan

Dubbed the Blue City because of the cerulean-colored buildings that extend for miles through the oldest part of town, Jodhpur has long attracted travelers eager to explore the ramparts of the larger-than-life Mehrangarh Fort. It’s also home to the grandiose Umaid Bhawan Palace , which made headlines in 2018 when Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot there. While Jodhpur’s beautiful, regal architecture is reason enough to visit, there’s more to the city than massive forts and grand palaces. “The area around the Toorji ka Jhalra stepwell in the old city is fun to explore,” says hotelier Sapna Bhatia, owner of Kaner Retreat and Jodhpur-area native. “For nature enthusiasts, there’s the Rao Jodha desert park near Mehrangarh Fort.”

Udaipur, Rajasthan

T+L readers' favorite city in Asia and second favorite city in the world , Udaipur very much fits the bill of a fairy tale destination. Nicknamed the City of Lakes, thanks to its seven lakes, this gorgeous destination is home to some of India's finest luxury hotels plus historic whitewashed palaces, including the magnificent City Palace, an 11-palace complex that houses hotels, a huge museum with an impressive collection of European crystal, and a royal residence. A short boat ride from the palace lies the 18th-century Taj Lake Palace, an opulent palace-turned-hotel in the middle of Lake Pichola. It’s a quick drive from The Oberoi, Udaivilas , a purpose-built palatial hotel with onion-domed cupolas and a moat-like swimming pool that directly connects to some of the rooms.

If you’re looking for a less-frequented, but no less amazing, alternative to more touristed states such as Rajasthan, consider Gujarat. “Under-explored but culturally rich, this state in India is a tapestry of festivals, textiles, architectural heritage, communities, and landscape,” says Rudra. Gujarat was also the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, who led the Salt March, one of his most famous acts of peaceful protest, through the state in 1930. Rudra suggests visiting the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial , which “honors the activists through murals, installations, sculptures, art, and related film.” It's also worth checking out the Kutch district, known for its distinct metal bells , which were originally used for keeping track of livestock and are now popular as decorative wind chimes.

Kaziranga National Park, Assam

The northeast Indian state of Assam is home to a treasure for wildlife enthusiasts: Kaziranga National Park . This expansive, UNESCO-listed wildlife refuge near the borders of Bangladesh and Bhutan has the largest population of Indian one-horned rhinoceroses on the planet, providing a home to roughly 2,000 of these massive beasts. Although rhinos are the star attraction on park safaris, all sorts of animals live here, including tigers, elephants, gibbons, sloth bears, and a small number of endangered Ganges River dolphins.

Historic, glitzy, and positively gargantuan, Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) is easily one of India’s most cosmopolitan destinations. This city by the sea is the nation's financial and entertainment capital, and while you’re unlikely to rub shoulders with Bollywood stars here, you're sure to see a lot of impressive attractions in very little time. Take a boat out to Elephanta Island to explore fifth– and sixth–century rock-hewn cave temples, marvel at the grand Indo-Saracenic architecture at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus , or see thousands of clothes hanging out to dry at Dhobi Ghat, the world's largest open-air laundry. Then, head to the sleek neighborhood of Bandra West, where many of Mumbai’s best restaurants and hotels are located, including Taj Lands End, voted T+L readers' favorite city hotel in India in 2023.

India’s smallest state, Goa, is arguably its top beach destination, where long days of swimming and sunbathing turn into longer nights of partying on the sand. While Goa has been known as a hippie haven since the 1960s, it's started to shed its reputation in recent decades. It’s still very much a party state, though it also draws in families and couples in search of sea and sun, sans nightlife. It’s a great place for history buffs as well, with numerous seaside forts and UNESCO-recognized churches that were built when Goa was under Portuguese rule. And while the destination has always been loved for its fiery dishes that combine traditional Konkani ingredients with Portuguese influences, it has also emerged as a culinary hot spot , where a new generation of chefs is showcasing everything from Japanese yakitori to jackfruit tamales.

Delhi Airport’s Conversion of Terminal T2 to All-International Delayed Till Next Year

The conversion of Delhi airport’s terminal T2 into an all-international terminal is delayed till April 2025, according to a Times of India report . The airport has three terminals of which T1 and T2 are fully domestic, while T3 handles domestic as well as international traffic. With T1 undergoing an expansion to double its capacity to 40 million passengers, the airport operators decided to convert T2 into an all-international terminal temporarily to better handle international traffic.

The initial plan was to begin the conversion of the terminal in July or August this year , after the expansion of domestic terminal T1 becomes operational in June. This would close T2 for a few months. However, the authorities have now decided to postpone the conversion work until after winter, as they want all terminals to be operational during the season. This is to avoid a repeat of winter last year when a key low-visibility runway was shut for repairs during the foggy season and led to delays.

Quartz Stone Countertops have become very popular nowadays. Unlike Granite, they are not limited to the colours of nature. They are available in a wide range of colours, patterns and textures.. Quartz is one of the hardest materials on earth and hence, quite a reasonable choice for your home.

1. Caeserstone

About the company.

Their product range is majorly divided into Supernatural, Classico, Metropolitan and Concetto Collections. Each collection has its own defining characteristics.

Caeserstone surfaces are some of the highest quality quartz surfaces that you can buy in India. They are manufactured in US and Israel.

Caeserstone is expensive. Because of this, it is rarely used. Don’t worry, you need not spend that much for a decent quartz surface in your home.

Price of Caeserstone Quartz in India: ₹2200/sq ft.

Our Recommendation

Although Caesarstone quartz surfaces are exquisite, we believe they are inordinately priced. Petrosstone is a reputable manufacturer of high-grade quartz with high-quality pigments to ensure strong and stain-resistant surfaces, all these at a fraction of the price. Contact here.

2. Silestone

Silestone is a quartz brand by Cosentino. Cosentino is a global leader in quartz and natural stone products. Silestone is more popularly known as Cosentino brand.

The Silestone product range is categorized based on hues (colour of the quartz), textures and style to make selection easy. Primary quartz colours of grey, brown, beige and black are available in marble, solid and granulate styles. They also have a wide metalled quartz range.

Besides the common polished surface texture, Silestone is also available in a variety of surface finished unlike raw volcano and suede.

Silestone also has unique granite-like quartz, for instance, Sienna Ridge and Mountain Mist resemble a variety of Indian natural granite.

Silestone, like Caesarstone, have high-grade quartz surfaces. Silestone also has a more unparalleled product range. Silestone also has an unprecedented 25-year limited transferrable warranty. No other quartz brand that we know of has such an offer.

Silestone products are fine. They also have a unique collection. But again, you might not want to make your kitchen a fashion statement.

Price of Silestone Quartz in India: ₹2150/sq ft

Go with silestone for the warranty if you really need the assurance. In our experience quartz slabs are intrinsically strong and you will probably not face major issues if you choose any reputable brand.

4. Corian Quartz

About the brand.

Corian quartz is a brand by the chemical giant DuPont. Corian Quartz is not to be confused with Corian Solid Surfaces. Solid Surfaces are a completely different product altogether. In India, Corian is more popularly known for its solid-surfaces overshadowing their quartz series.

Corian quartz is another high-grade quartz stone slab widely available in India.

Corian Quartz also has a wide range of colours but lacks any special textures. They do have a largest range of colours and patterns. Their product range has been broadly divided into: Light Granular Quartz, Light Veined Quartz, Dark Granular Quartz and Dark Veined Quartz.  Dark grained and veined quartz tread more towards the natural look whereas the lighter colours are c.

Corian quartz is surprisingly not popular in India. This is because many Indian companies like AGL, Kalinga and BABA have dominated this space since the beginning. Corian Quartz cannot be the first choice for high-grade quartz surfaces. Corian Solid-surfaces, have apparently overshadowed the Corian quartz series.

Price of Corian Quartz in India: ₹1680/sq ft

AGL was one of the first Indian companies to enter the domestic marketplace. However, the company has always remained inclined towards exporting their very best quality products.

Product range is not as wide as the other options above. Quartz is available only in polished texture.

The major issue that people have faced with AGL products are that dealers procure export-rejected material at low prices and then pass it off to unknowing customers at the cost of the company’s reputation.

Price of AGL Quartz in India: ₹150/sq ft to ₹250/sq ft

Other Brands

There are many other companies like OGL, Kalinga Stone, BABA. To know more about them. Please enter your email (click here) because such details cannot be disclosed publicly – you will get a free pdf with all details and best prices.

Kalinga Quartz Price in India: Starting ₹‎310/sq ft

Calculating the Total Cost of Quartz Slabs

To find out the total cost of the countertop, you must find out the total number of quartz stone slabs you will require for the job. The average area that a quartz stone slab covers is 48 sq. ft. So, if the total area of material required for the job is 210sq ft, you must purchase 5 slabs of quartz stone. The rest of the quartz slab shall go to waste.

This will unfairly increase the cost of your kitchen. To reduce this, at Petrosstone, you only pay for what you use. You can get in touch here.

Quartz Stone Dining Table Price in India

To find out the price of quartz stone countertops, you will need to find the total area of quartz you will require for the entire project. Ask your contracted architect/designer/contractor for help if you don’t know what this means. Once you have the total area of quartz required (in square feet) you can figure out the number of slabs that you will need. This depends on the size of the quartz slab available. Quartz slabs are usually around 4’9″ x 10′ in size. Thus, each slab is approximately 50sqft. Diving the total square footage of material required by the square feet covered by each slab will give you the total number of slabs required for the project. Once you know the total number of slabs required, you can easily find out the approximate cost of quartz by multiplying them with the per square feet price of the quartz.

How to find the right cost of quartz Countertops in India?

The price of quartz stone primarily depends on the following three factors:

The brand of the quartz affects the quality of polymers, quality control measures and processing standards. The more important question is, does it matter? In India, major brands like AGL, Kalinga are inclined to export quartz. Foreign buyers pay a premium and have stringent quality control conditions which companies must abide by. On the other hand, the domestic market is lenient in terms of quality. Hence, companies can get away with selling low quality products at hyped-up prices.

b. Size and Thickness

Size and thickness of slab directly affects the price of quartz slabs. Larger and thicker quartz slabs cost more than small and thinner quartz slabs. Quartz Stone slabs are available in 15, 20 and 30mm thicknesses with a standard size of 4.75*10. Custom size and thicknesses are available for project requirements.

c. Design and Pattern of Quartz Slab

Companies have come up with hundreds of designs in almost every colour and pattern imaginable in quartz countertops. There is no established rationale for design/color based pricing but broadly all quartz slabs can be categorized into three types: Crystal, Plain and Marble in the order of increasing prices.

Short trips and staycations will bring India’s crushed tourism industry back to life

Mountains are NOT calling.

An estimated 50 million Indian tourists will have to call off their international travel plans this year. And that’s great for the local tourism industry.

The Covid-19 outbreak is expected to make travel within the country more attractive for Indian tourists, experts believe. “The local holiday market will boom this year as the majority of the people feel safer travelling to nearby destinations close to their homes,” said Rajnish Kumar, co-founder and chief technology officer of travel company ixigo.

Besides feeling safe, tourists may also be lured to local destinations given international travel currently comes with complicated quarantine protocols by governments in different countries.

This is good news for India’s hotel and tourism businesses that have remained nearly shut for around four months now, as most Indians refrained from non-essential travel due to government-directed lockdowns.

Vocal for local

Even as the number of Covid-19 cases in India is on the rise, travellers are taking short-distance trips.

“We have already witnessed emergency travel primarily through personal vehicles, trains and flights, which is the first phase of things getting back on track for the sector. In the second phase, customers will prefer short trips or staycations within the city or in nearby destinations in the same state,” explained Balu Ramachandran, senior vice-president of travel portal Cleartrip.

Ramachandran added that tourists are likely to travel to regional “bubbles,” which are areas that have fewer Covid-19 cases.

One such bubble could be Kerala, Ramachandran suggested, as the southern state’s response to prevent the pandemic has been garnering appreciation globally . As of July 7, Kerala had a total of 5,622 active cases of Covid-19.

Other such “bubbles” may emerge in the coming months as state governments start investing in measures that ensure safe tourism. For instance, Goa, India’s most popular beach holiday destination, has made coronavirus tests mandatory for tourists before entering the state and has forbidden private hotels that are not registered with the state’s tourism department to take bookings . On July 6, The Times of India newspaper reported that there had already been a surge in tourists arriving in Goa on private jets.

Similarly, the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand is welcoming back tourists and has announced certain restrictions on sightseeing to ensure social distancing.

Indians are already braving the pandemic to travel, data from ticketing apps show.

“Recent trends show that fear and apprehension have slowly dissipated as travellers have learnt to live with the virus,” Kumar of ixigo said. “Our booking data shows there is a rise in travel on a weekly basis and bookings across key routes in June have increased by 45-50%  as compared to the last week of May when domestic flights had just reopened.”

Kumar is hopeful that travel bookings will bounce back to pre-Covid-19 levels sooner than expected.

Hotel chain OYO is hoping to get its first wave of demand post-Covid-19 from religions tourism. ”Pilgrimages (and) road trips to closer destinations will gain momentum, which will lead to generating demand for us,” an OYO spokesperson said.

But even as they venture out, Indian tourists will give top priority to hygiene, followed by the option to cancel at the last minute, if needed, according to a survey conducted by ixigo.
