Day 1 - Arrival in Launceston
Arrive today and travel into Launceston city at your leisure. Your accommodation for the next 2 nights is booked and waiting at a perfectly located inner city hotel, 2 minutes walk from the main restaurant strip.
After another scenic drive we reach the highlands area & Cradle Mountain. Spend the majority of today exploring this wondrous park and the many fantastic walking tracks. Take a short drive into Dove Lake for breathtaking views of Cradle Mountain. Next, we offer a fully guided selection of walks to suit the group and weather. Some options include Glacier Rock platform, the Boat Shed, Pencil Pine Waterfall walk, the Enchanted Walk & Weindorfers Forest walk.
This will be a great day of exploration for everyone. Depending on conditions other walking options might be a section of the Cradle Valley Boardwalk from Snake Hill, or a stunning section of the famous Overland Track from Dove lake to Ronnie Creek. There are many great, short walks today, all of them offering a rare opportunity to experience this pristine wilderness. Your guide will choose the most appropriate selection to suit the group & weather.
Day 3 - The Midlands to Hobart (B, L)
First up we have a guided tour of Australia’s 3rd oldest city - Launceston. Enjoy a morning stroll at the lovely Cataract Gorge, a fantastic urban wilderness only minutes from the CBD and the jewel in Launceston’s crown. A driving tour around town will take in some of the most iconic old buildings and structures including the Penny Royal complex, the King Bridge, the Post office and the Holy Trinity Anglican Church among others.
Heading south today we journey down Tasmania's Midlands HWY, a stunning drive through rolling countryside with fields of many different & colourful crops, grazing livestock and mountainous terrain in the background. A stop in Ross is first to see the beautiful old Ross Bridge - one of the prettiest in Tasmania. At Oatlands see perhaps Australia’s best collection of convict period sandstone buildings with over 90 old structures on display in the main street. The Callington Mill has recently been fully refurbished and the striking Windmill is definitely worth a short stroll and photograph.
A scenic drive further south will have us arrive in the Coal Valley for lunch at our favourite local vineyard. Enjoy wine tastings with your sample style platter of locally sourced produce. Our chosen vineyard today does not export wine to any restaurants or liquor stores anywhere in the country including Hobart, which is why we enjoy providing a local experience for our guests. From here we continue into Hobart to take in the Hobart waterfront and Battery Point areas, while viewing many of Hobart’s oldest convict built structures. Head to the summit of Tasmania's Mt Wellington (1271m) boasting spectacular panoramic views in every direction. For those travelling in the colder months we might be lucky enough to summit amongst drifts of white snow lining the road. Check-in tonight at our luxurious 4-star accommodation for the next 3 nights - the Movenpick Hobart.
Day 4 – Port Arthur & The Tasman Peninsula (B, L)
Today we explore the beautiful Tasman Peninsula and Tasman National Park area. First up though we stop at the township of Richmond. See the stone arch construction of the Richmond Bridge, built by the convicts in 1823 this is Australia’s oldest bridge still in operation.
A scenic morning drive will take us out of town towards the blue waters of the Tasmania National Park. Pirates Bay lookout is a great first up stop for coffee & morning snacks with views for miles along the rugged coast line.
The Tasman National Park boasts towering sea cliffs and a wealth of cultural history as we venture south. Learn about Eaglehawk Neck - the site of the infamous Dogline - as we cross onto the Tasman Peninsula. We then explore some of nature’s true wonders with short, scenic walks at Tasman’s Arch and Devils Kitchen. Continuing on we will lunch at the colourful Port Arthur Lavender Farm where guests can enjoy fantastic food and photograph the best lavender fields in Tasmania’s south.
Our afternoon activities will be a fully guided tour around the Port Arthur Historic Site. Explore many of the original buildings as we learn about the early convicts and the role they played in Tasmania’s history. Enter the convict Church, The Asylum and the Silent Prison to name a few. Learn about Point Puer (the juvenile boys prison), the Isle of the Dead graveyard and the Port Arthur timber industry while enjoying a short, scenic harbour cruise to view the site as incoming convicts would have. An early evening drive returns us to Hobart for another stay in comfortable and very central city lodgings.
Day 5 – Bruny Island (B, L)

Tasmanian Wonders (Travel Period: 01 Apr 2024 – 31 Mar 2025)
Day 1 Welcome to Hobart
The Tasmanian capital of Hobart may be small in size, but it’s big in attractions, as you’ll discover this afternoon. Put your destination into perspective from the summit of Mt. Nelson, offering endless vistas over Australia’s southernmost city. View the charming Georgian cottages of Battery Point and convict built warehouses along Salamanca Place, the backdrop of epic Saturday markets. Gaze over boats at Constitution Dock - this is where yachts finish when competing in the annual Sydney to Hobart race, and take a stroll in the second oldest Botanical Gardens in Australia with its amazing collection of plants from around the world. Tonight, join your Travel Director for a Welcome Dinner.

Day 2 Hobart - Strahan
Western Tasmania is like nature amplified, a place where the wilderness rules and people are few and far between. Visiting Mount Field National Park is a humbling experience, not only for the fact it’s part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, but also because it’s home to some of the tallest eucalypts and flowering plants on Earth. Wander amid these giants to reach Russell Falls – take a deep breath; you’re officially on holiday. Records continue to be broken at Lake St. Clair, the deepest freshwater Lake in Australia, before you arrive in Strahan, gateway to World Heritage listed Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.
Day 3 Strahan
The inky waters of the Gordon River and Macquarie Harbour – given their colour by amber button-grass tannins – are as eery as they are beautiful, the mirror-like surface only broken by your Gordon River chariot as you cruise through Hells Gates, the treacherous entrance to the harbour before returning to Sarah Island. It’s hard to reconcile the beauty of this part of the state with its grim history as a penal colony; a place where convicts would fell Huon pines for boat building. Disembark at Heritage Landing to view one of these 500-year-old majestic trees. Safely back on dry land, it's soon time to discover 'The Ship That Never Was', the dramatic and hilarious true story of the Great Escape from Sarah Island! You'll see it performed live by a group of theatre professionals.
Day 4 Strahan - Cradle Mountain - Burnie
Today your journey reaches new heights – quite literally with a visit to the 1,545-metre Cradle Mountain, your backdrop as you explore Dove Lake on your Cradle Mountain tour, the wild alpine moorlands here a natural magnet for lovers of the wilderness. The spectacular and pristine wilderness of Cradle Mountain is home to the mysterious and secretive Tasmanian Devil. You’ll love the next adventure today, a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience. A Day Keeper at Devils @ Cradle will lead you through the sanctuary and provide you with a thorough insight into its operation. When joining this tour you will be directly supporting these animals and threatened species conservation. Leave the Central Highlands after an uplifting day and head towards the scenic north-west coast for your overnight stay.
Day 5 Burnie - Launceston
Table Cape is by far Wynyard's most remarkable natural wonder, at 180 metres high, 'The Cape' - as locals refer to it - offers spectacular views of Tasmania's coastline. As you drive to the top of the remains of a 12-million-year-old volcano you'll reach Table Cape lookout where, on a clear day, you can see mountain ranges over 175 kilometres away. If there’s a town with a cuter name than Penguin, we’re yet to find it. Locals embrace its appeal – there are penguin sculptures at every turn, including one measuring over 3 metres tall. Your journey along the northwest coast also passes through Ulverstone and Sheffield, The Town of Murals, boasting over 100 large paintings depicting the area’s rich history and local characters. All this exploring builds an appetite. Refuel at Ashgrove Tasmanian Farm, where happy cows contribute to award-winning cheeses – everything from cheddar and red Leicester to creamy Tasmanian blue. For lovers of sweeter delights, why not treat yourself to a delicious locally made ice cream?
Day 6 Launceston
There are few places in the world where you can leave the city behind and within minutes be surrounded by nature. Launceston is one. Blink and you’re at Cataract Gorge, a yawning chasm carved by ancient rivers. This rare natural phenomenon unites bushland with neat Victorian gardens, replete with ferns and exotic plants. Get a different perspective of the green cavern on the optional scenic chairlift, zipping you over the water to a lofty lookout. We wouldn’t blame you for lingering here, or perhaps taking a cruise along the river. The choice is yours.
Day 7 Launceston - Bicheno
You’ll smell Bridestowe before you see it, this enormous lavender farm perfuming the Tasmanian countryside. The flowers grown here aren’t just used in fragrances – they’re also infused into ice-cream, teas and jams. It’s a tasty entrée to the Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees, sculpted into World War One soldiers. Little penguins come out to play in Bicheno; sign up to spot them after dark as they waddle to shore from the water.
Day 8 Bicheno - Hobart
The colours at Freycinet National Park are so vivid you’ll think someone has taken the glasses off your nose and cleaned them for the first time: The patchwork of ocean blues that lap Coles Bay. The dramatic pink granite cliffs. There’s a reason why the peninsula stars on postcards. The other place on postcards is Richmond, its grand 1820s Georgian buildings today home to bijou boutiques, galleries and cafés that appear to be lost in time. Your last stop for the day is to the shores of the Derwent River where local palawa will welcome you to country and show off some local bush tucker.
Day 9 Port Arthur Historic Site
The Isle of the Dead, Devil’s Kitchen, Blowhole… the attractions at and around Port Arthur nod to the region’s notoriously grim history. This is the best-preserved convict site in Australia, and among the most significant convict-era destinations worldwide. The stories these walls could tell.
Day 10 Farewell from Hobart
It took early explorers months to circumnavigate Tasmania. You’ve done it in 10 days. What a wild ride.
Please note: This itinerary may be subject to change.

1 Welcome to Hobart
Hotel: Best Western Hobart. D
2 Hobart - Strahan
Hotel: Strahan Village. B D
Hotel: Strahan Village. B L D
4 Strahan - Cradle Mountain - Burnie
Hotel: Beachfront Voyager Motor Inn. B L D
5 Burnie - Launceston
Hotel: Best Western Plus Launceston. B
6 Launceston
There are few places in the world where you can leave the city behind and within minutes be surrounded by nature. Launceston is one. Blink and you’re at Cataract Gorge, a yawning chasm carved by ancient rivers. This rare natural phenomenon unites bushland with neat Victorian gardens, replete with ferns and exotic plants. Get a different perspective of the green cavern on the optional scenic chairlift, zipping you over the water to a lofty lookout. We wouldn’t blame you for lingering here, or perhaps taking a cruise along the river. The choice is yours. Hotel: Best Western Plus Launceston. B
7 Launceston - Bicheno
You’ll smell Bridestowe before you see it, this enormous lavender farm perfuming the Tasmanian countryside. The flowers grown here aren’t just used in fragrances – they’re also infused into ice-cream, teas and jams. It’s a tasty entrée to the Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees, sculpted into World War One soldiers. Little penguins come out to play in Bicheno; sign up to spot them after dark as they waddle to shore from the water. Hotel: Beachfront at Bicheno. B D
8 Bicheno - Hobart
The colours at Freycinet National Park are so vivid you’ll think someone has taken the glasses off your nose and cleaned them for the first time: The patchwork of ocean blues that lap Coles Bay. The dramatic pink granite cliffs. There’s a reason why the peninsula stars on postcards. The other place on postcards is Richmond, its grand 1820s Georgian buildings today home to bijou boutiques, galleries and cafés that appear to be lost in time. Your last stop for the day is to the shores of the Derwent River where local palawa will welcome you to country and show off some local bush tucker. Hotel: Best Western Hobart. B
9 Port Arthur Historic Site
The Isle of the Dead, Devil’s Kitchen, Blowhole… the attractions at and around Port Arthur nod to the region’s notoriously grim history. This is the best-preserved convict site in Australia, and among the most significant convict-era destinations worldwide. The stories these walls could tell. Hotel: Best Western Hobart. B FD
10 Farewell from Hobart
It took early explorers months to circumnavigate Tasmania. You’ve done it in 10 days. What a wild ride. B

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Cradle Mountain Sightseeing Tour It was one of my father and I’s favorite memories in Australia. We had one day in Tasmania on our trek around Australia, and Sue made it the most memorable. She picked us up early when our ship got in, took us on a run to Maccas, and then when I told her that my major involves animal conservation, she suggested we go to Devils at Cradle as well as Cradle Mountain. That was the best suggestion ever! I got to see hands on conservation work with Tasmanian Devils, and although Cradle Mountain wasn’t showing its peaks, we had a great time walking around the park. Once we were done with our trek, we went to lunch and Sue bought both my father and I a drink because we had never tried it before. She truly made the experience feel like a family trip. We stopped at the Murals on our way back to Devonport and saw so much more than we expected. I would recommend this trip with Sue to anyone looking to travel to Cradle Mountain, or on any other trips she guides. She made the experience one of the most memorable in our travels and was flexible in creating an experience that we would enjoy — Emily S. TripAdvisor Review
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Gunns Plains Caves and Canyon Tour Sue is such a friendly and knowledgeable person; we had a great time on the Gunns Plains caves and Leven Canyon Tour — Marcie Smilie. Email Review
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Burnie Sightseeing Tour Sue ran a tour with just the two of us. She is very knowledgeable, friendly and the tour was personalised, flexible and pleasant. Anyone with a group of 2 – 6 should definitely call her up. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. Sue will also accommodate cruise passenger time restrictions. We were glad to have booked with her instead of the cruise ship shore excursions (which went to the same places) — Kupio Kerr – Google Review.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Stanley Sightseeing Tour Tour of northern Tasmania including Stanley and the Nut. We had a fantastic day being shown around this part of Tasmania- Sue was efficient, informative, and an excellent driver who made the tour relaxed and personalised to us. During the tour we saw many different aspects of local life, and out of the way places that we would have missed doing our own tour and driving. A memorable trip, that we would heartily recommend — Lynne James. Google Review
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Wings Wildlife Park Scenic Tour Thank you for the lovely time we had on the tour out of Burnie on Sunday, 14 January. Our tour was peaceful, informative, entertaining, better than we could have imagined! And what a special treat it was to indulge in the delicious ice cream at the berry farm! — Marcie Smilie. Email Review
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Tasmanian Foodies Custom Tour We had a lovely time with Tasmania Boutique Tours on the first day we arrived in Tasmania! Sue was a wonderful guide, and she made us feel right at home immediately. She was really thoughtful in preparing warm blankets and hot water, and led us on an exciting foodie experience. We had such a good time despite it being such a rainy day. She truly showed us the best of what Tassie has to offer, and really can’t wait to travel back again with her. Highly recommended if you are looking for a private touring experience. — Emily Chua – Facebook Review
We had a fabulous day exploring Burnie and environs with Sue. She’s an enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide who was able to give us great insight into Tasmania. She was flexible and was happy to customize our day to allow us more time in places we were most interested in. – Kadi K TripAdvisor Review
